DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! The tests are nothing like what he teaches in class. So many people dropped his class the first week. He will tell you that the study guide is your book, so get ready to read and so homework problems from the book.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. Despite being one of the few native English speaking math professors, he cannot teach math and you will fail the class. SI and tutors my classmates have seen say "this isn't precalculus, this is physics and calc" and he doesn't teach anything SI teaches so you're boned
DON'T.
Hardest math class yet. The textbook only sort of aligns with class lectures. Weekly quizzes that require reading. Weekly group problems that can barely be solved by the most studious of students (worst part of the class). Almost no feedback on said problems. He turns a general ed course into a weeder course. Clear disconnect from the his students.
Be ready to teach yourself pre-calc. The lectures offer no guidance or clearification, and you'll be left with more questions. He teaches out of the terrible book, but goes about problems in class in a different(complicated) way. If you ask a question be prepared to get a long winded tangent without the answer. As he says often "I win, you lose".
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM. He is unclear in class, uses an awful textbook, doesn't answer asked questions, and makes students feel stupid for asking questions (he calls wrong answers 'epic fails'). The group work is far beyond the capabilities of a precalc student, and he often doesn't cover material in class he says he will. Not a good teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! Only a few people are passing right now and they are passing with a C-. He is unclear in class and his office hours do not help that much. You have mandatory quizzes that are online and only available from midnight to noon, so if your schedule is jammed packed in the morning have fun staying up late to finish the quiz.
Just save yourself the trouble and choose another professor.
If you take this class and put in the time it will help you for the long run if you are going to take calc 1+. Just do the homework and put in the time and you will be fine. He teaches us to understand the problem and not just solve by feeding us information to mimic. Its not an easy class but when you put in the time you get a lot out of it.
He is nice and will *try* to help you during office hours. He doesn't do many example problems (maybe 1-2 per class). He expects you to read and understand almost entirely from the book. He is a nit-picking grader, our first exam's average was a 20%. It may as well be an online course. O-Chem is easier than this. Highly unrecommended.
He's a nice guy but his class is way harder than it needs to be. Homework is easily the hardest out of any class and you only get one submission per question. His tests are extremely hard and he doesn't teach to the test. He kind of just rants for 45 minutes.
Gives examples that are basically definitions from the book. He then gives homework, tests, and quiz questions that are nowhere near what he teaches in class. Office hours aren't helpful. Online videos, book equations galore, SI, and a tutor twice a week is what I signed up for. Class is him rambling- really wish it wasn't mandatory.
I could teach the class better than this professor. He is nice but has no idea what he is doing. He acted like he had never taught the class before and had to think about each problem before explaining them. Group problems are often impossible and the test do not match what was gone over in class. Do not take his class if you need to pass.
This class is horrible. I have taken a precalc class before, and I am left with no words. Be prepared to completely teach yourself, and be degraded upon asking a question. Dr. Boczko seems to have a good heart, but cannot teach. I highly recommend taking this course with someone else.
Exams are worth 400 points, attendance 400 points, final 200 points, team tests(once a week) 300 points, and a syllabus quiz for 50 points. He also gives 125 forgiveness points. The exams are not hard if you study for them. He is always willing to help students. If you go to his office hours you will get an A in his class. GREAT PROFESSOR!
This man should not be teaching. Lecture consists of him writing the book on the board for you, but class is mandatory. The tests are worse, and if you don't seek outside help you won't know what to do. Not only that but the tests required knowledge from courses in circuits and physics, classes many haven't yet taken. No respect for this professor.
The guy is a nice guy, but the class is much harder than it needs to be (friends who took the class with other professors had it much better) and takes a TON of time on unrealistic hw for the amount of credit hrs. Just don't do it to yourself.
The class is pretty difficult, although there is a lot of points given for homework and attendance and as such it's pretty easy to pass the class.
I really enjoyed having Dr. B as a professor. He is easily one of my favorites that I've had so far. He really wants to make sure that his students understand the material and is always willing to help outside of class. Get ready for homework every night, but practicing the problems really helps. Tests are practical, just study and show your work!
He is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. The class consists of him standing in front of the class writing problems on the board. His explanations are poor at best, due to him not even fully explaining in a way where you know what questions to ask. I went out of my way for help and could not manage to get the help I needed to feel confident.
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. If I didn't have a good grasp on math, I would have easily failed. He is awful at answering the questions you ask and instead explains the opposite of what you need. Don't skip class, points are 10 a day. He basically expects you to learn from the book. His lectures do not help at all.
Pretty cool dude
Terrible teacher. Find someone else who can teach. He cannot teach. I do not recommend him. He also won't help your grade. Do not go to him.
Nice class, nice professor. Most of aren't fans of math (and aren't great at it either), but if you dig down a bit for this class to try to really understand the stuff, you'll be fine. The lectures of definitely helpful, so attending class would be smart, and he's pretty clear on grading and doesn't try to trick you out of your grade at all.
Okay I would like to start off by saying I enjoy math and do not find it hard but he was a terrible grader and did not give partial credit. He was able to make an easy class difficult and expects people to do bad. He also wants you to come argue about your grade. He can also be pretty rude when people ask questions.
Boczko does hos best to help you prepare for the future. A lot ofnpeople look past how well of a professor he is because he teaches math, but he is funny, and really does care about his students learning.
The course was challenging, no doubt about that. The problems require you to have a foundational understanding of the course material and that is what killed me. Forced me to really sit down and learn. I met with him multiple times outside of class and he was always happy to have me even outside off hours. If you put in 49% he'll meet you with 51%
Dr. B is a great teacher, super funny, and cares about his students. If you don't understand something just go to his office hours and he will help you, even if it takes all night. If you really want to learn, take his class.
Professor Boczko was one of my most favorite professors. He made an effort to try & help me obtain the grade I received. He was accessible EVERYDAY outside of class in his office. He does expect you to attend class, but I find its necessary to learn anyway, plus you are rewarded! Funny guy and good at what he does.
Dr. B is a great person. At first I disliked him and his teaching style, but then as the semester went on and I started to go to more office hours the semester got better. He may not make since in lecture but when you go to office hours, he will explain stuff until you DO get it.
Dr. Boczko is passionate about math and helping students learn. He has extensive office hours and goes beyond and above to make sure students understand the core concepts. You will definitely need to put in the time to complete homework. I would 10/10 recommend taking any of his classes!
Although Boczko is a nice guy, his lectures are miserable. Youll leave lecture more confused than you were when you walked in, and attendance is mandatory. The tests are difficult. The only chance youll have at getting a decent grade is doing ALL of the homework. He has plenty of office hours though! Overall, I dont recommend him.
Way too smart to be teaching lower level math courses - the lectures were easily the most confusing to me, and large groups of students I worked alongside with had little to no idea what he was talking about most of the time. He harbored an environment that made students feel unwelcome to ask questions, as he would actively ridicule them.
The worlds worst teacher. He makes you feel so stupid when you ask a question and when he explains things, it makes it ten times worse. The homework is super hard. I would highly recommend you to TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!
Dr. b gets a bad rep. He is a VERY tough grader and he can sometimes be blunt. I cant say you will always get the grade you want for the effort you put in, but I can say that he will work with you. Go to his office hours, do the work, be prepared; he does take that into consideration. He is an awesome professor and I learned a lot.
Dr. Boczko is not only a very intelligent teacher but a good, genuine guy as well. He is flexible w/ meeting times and always open for discussion and questions. If you are willing to do your work and speak up when you have questions, then you should absolutely take a course with him.
Dr. Boczo was a really good teacher. He was very passionate about Calc and wanted each student to do good in his class. His tests were hard, in order to do good you should do a lot of practice problems from the book and GO TO CLASS! He gives so many points for attendance alone.
Dr.B once said, "once a student is ready to learn a teacher appears". This can't be more true. I've taken four different math classes with Dr.B and he is by far the best math teacher i have come across. He is far better than Adam Fuller and Sergiu Aizicovici at teaching in general and he cares far more than both of them as well.
He is a tough professor but he really cares about your success in the class. If you go to his office hours frequently, it will pay off big time when it comes time for exams. He is always happy to help and has a lot of time after class and during his office hours to help.
good guy
He is one of the most amazing professors! He gives extra points if he doesn't see your phone, gives so many attendance points, and he never made me feel bad for asking for help! He is so willing to work with struggling students. Easily my favorite professor I have ever had.
Super nice guy and definitely loves calc and what he does but this was the easily the hardest class I have ever taken. I had to get a tutor that I see twice a week which was super helpful but I still struggled through the whole semester. You definitely have to put in a lot of effort for this class, I did and I still don't know if I will pass
Absolutely fantastic professor. It is easy to tell that he genuinely cares about his students and their success. For example, the night before an exam he holds unlimited office hours. I will admit, he is a pretty tough professor but as long as you put forth the effort to truly learn the class material, you will love Dr. Boczko.
Dr. B is genuinely a nice guy. He cares about the progress of his students and he is always looking for ways to make the learning process easier on students. He makes you work hard for your grade without making you feel like you could never actually pass the class. He is always willing to hold extra office hours for students who need it.
Dr. B is one of the most knowledgeable people I've seen. This class will 100% kick your ass if you don't try but luckily he is always holding office hours and can explain things in so many different ways its astounding. Amazing teacher, difficult class. If you dont put in work your grade is ass
Dr. B is a super nice guy but not a good professor. His exams are very hard and he grades tough! He does simple examples in class, but does super hard ones in recitation and on exams. Recitation is awful because he makes you work alone, when other classes get to work in groups. He will help you in office hours but you have to study a lot to pass.
Attendance was 26% of the whole grade. Exams were easy but it didn't feel like we had enough time to finish them. There was an insane amount of homework. I'm not sure if he gave too much homework on accident because he was using a new textbook, but it was way too much. He doesn't let you use your phone or else you lose attendance. Really nice.
The worst online course I have ever taken. Excessive homework and the homework has nothing to do with the tests. It is also the class I've learned the least in. He hit the buttons on the online platform and that's the extent of his effort. What should have been a challenging but useful class has been anything but.
Dr. Boczko is challenging, but taking his 2302 course has been fundamental in my success in other courses. It was a struggle, but I appreciate that work I needed to put in to succeed. I genuinely feel like I know and understand Calc II, which is important in upper level courses. If you're planning on taking math beyond Calc II, take this course!
Dr. B is very knowledgeable in mathematics and physics. He sturggles to find ways to explain things in different ways that could simplify things for students. He also gives easy examples in class and the exams are very difficult to pass. Take this course with him if you want your GPA to drop.
I dreaded going to linear algebra. He talks down to his students and makes you feel completely incompetent. His homework is a ridiculous, almost impossible workload. His lectures are overly generalized and he doesn't explain anything. You don't go to his office hours, you won't pass. He will wreck your grade if you use your phone in class.
Dr. Bozko is a great professor and a very caring person. He will go to all ends to help his students to succeed.
There are many better teaching options. I went to his office hours 4+ hours a week every week for his calc class and still got a D, his tests aren't usually relevant to what he teaches as they usually are just weirdly specific things from the book. He will tell you that in his past he failed Calc like 3 times, dont let him be the reason you fail.
does not care about his students. work is graded by TA but wont tell you what is done wrong. does not care to hold lectures for his class so he records one and just says come, even if you have a different class at that time.
Terrible at explaining things. difficult to contact, when i emailed him be basically said not my problem, talk to the TA. My TA does all the grading and doesnt update grades online. I had to drop this class because i wasnt learning anything.
One of the most annoying classes I have ever taken, aside from the fact that it was all online, the lectures have no impact or influence on the homework. There were two sides of it, ALEKS and also the written homework. The written homework was graded by the TA and besides the fact that he dosent tell you waht you get wrong. By far one of the worst
Took this class online this semester due to COVID. Erik doesn't tell you the grade you have in the class and tells you to basically just figure it out yourself. A week before the final nobody knew when the final would be or what platform it would be on. I left the lectures feeling more lost than before them. ALEKS taught me more than he did.
Assigned a ridiculous amount of homework. Selected a meeting time that was not the same as the scheduled class time. Lectures were not helpful. Wouldn't put any grades in Blackboard. Hard to reach outside of class. Talks down to students. Only plus was he gave extra credit for attending supplemental instruction.
did not seem to care about any of his students and would not tell us our grade, instead said to calculate it ourselves, would not let me into zoom lectures, and did not explain things when help was needed. basically made us do everything for ourselves with little to no help
Worst class ever. We were all forced to take this class online and there was no symptahy for online issues. We were told if we had any technical difficualtes during the final we would not get a redo. He changed the class times and combined all the sections, if you were just 10 minutes late he would not let you in the zoom. Absolutely the worst.
It was a ludicrous and unneccesary amount of work for precalc. Each week was: 4 1 hr lectures, 5+ hrs of ALEKS, written hw, and if you want to pass, recitation and S.I. S.I. wasn't helpful. Doesn't tell you your grade, my entire section didn't know our T.A. until halfway into the semester after asking Boczko consistently. Awful prof.
Very hard class. He talks down to students and the lectures are not helpful at all. The homework is hard and barely relates to what you are learning. I signed up for this class at 10:30 MWTF but he decided that he wanted to teach all math 1300 at 1pm instead of our designated time. Very frustrating class.
ALEKS work and class lectures were NOT related AT ALL. 95% of the semester lectures were about sign diagrams that were only HIS way. Unsympathetic if you needed a deadline extended. Did not stick to syllabus test dates and gave us a second midterm just because the lecture attendance was not what he wanted. Changed class schedule last minute.
He is the WORST. He did absolutely nothing to help his students. The amount of times I had asked him questions, he would direct me to someone else even when they werent able to help me. Clearly doesnt care about his students, just the paycheck.
This dude sucks so bad bro. Honestly the worst class Ive ever taken. He literally laughed at me when I asked a question.
Literally the worst person to have teaching anyone. He laughs at his students when they don't understand a concept, humiliates them in front of hundreds of other students, extremely aggressive, rude, and belligerent. Dude needs to be fired honestly, the class is a hostile environment and I feel truly sorry for anyone who has had to deal with him
Possibly the worst prof. I've ever had. Lectures have nothing to do with what's graded. You don't even meet with him in person because every lecture is done through teams, so good luck asking any questions. He belittles students that are struggling and has laughed at students for asking questions multiple times. Course load is unmanageable.
Hate him. Hate his class. I am not a good math learner in general, but the fact that its a no calculator class for reasons even HE cant explain, and its online with 200 other kids. I plan on dropping this class.
He doesnt teach anything thats actually going to be on that weeks exam. He usually teaches things youre going to be doing weeks later that arent relevant at the moment. One kid in my class asked if he could go over the stuff that would be on that weeks exam and he laughed at him and said no.
Dr. B is the worst professor. He has our class online every day except for Tuesdays where we go in one week and do a worksheet that is due by the end of class and a text the next week. The tests are irrelevant to the subjects we learn on ALEKS and this has caused many people to drop his class due to poor grading and is inconsiderate of his students
He tries. I usually get his lectures more the second time I watch. However, I think he forgets we arent all math professors like him. Its clear he knows what hes talking about, but doesnt explain steps in an understandable manner unless someone asks. Lecture/book problems dont match exams, and HW doesnt relate to material/exams. This class sucks
Avoid this professor at all costs. I ended up dropping because of how ridiculous the class was. At one point he was teaching an online lecture from his phone while walking outside. Tests are nothing like lectures or homework. Last I heard only 18% of the class had a passing grade.
I was in this class and it was a MWF with an in-person TA on Thursdays. You take a test every other week and I just couldn't figure out the material. Me and others consistently failed the bi-weekly exams and ended up dropping.
Prof B. seems to complicate everything he talks about in lecture and the exams are even more complicated. His math class have a cumulative final, but he does not give students back their exams for a chance to review it. SI sessions are for sure the reason I have not dropped this class yet. Your grade will be a mystery until next exam. A nightmare.
withdrew from this course 9 weeks into the semester because there was just no way I was going to pass this class. he does not let you miss class for anything. i had a funeral to go to and he refused to let me make up the exam that was being held that day. most the TAs dont even know what they are doing and the exams dont cover the class material
I hate sign diagrams, and I intensely dislike Dr. B. Most students were failing. We started with 280 students, we are down to less than 150. His lectures are hard to follow as they do not always coincide to the book. There are also a lack of practice problems that would help with the test. He is rude in class if you ask a question.
Tough class and professor. Did give curves when large scale failing began. Yes, a very large scale failing was common.
He is really mean to students and generally unhelpful. He does not answer emails and the class is pretty much just taught by ta's who I don't even think they know what they are doing.
If you are put in to his class immediately switch. He does not explain any of the concepts in class and does not respond to emails or messages. I am in his online and the only time I have actually learned anything is by seeking help from tutors OUTSIDE of the class. Also berates his students for asking questions during the lectures.
Professor Boczko is a smart guy but is a poor teacher. He uses a lot of confusing mantras, skips around to different questions, and is disrespectful to students for not knowing how to do something from high school.
In a class of 300, within the first two weeks, we barely had 100 people left in the class because of how bad his teaching was. Not great at slowing down to explain each step, leaving most confused. The class average on the first two exams was under 30%. He had to curve every test of the year because if he didn't, no one would pass.
He is the worst professor imaginable. When you ask a question he calls you stupid and claims if you are given a study guide you are a spoiled baby. The class was failing misserably and he had to remove another exam and grade on a curve because more than half the class was failing. Save your time and don't take it with him
It was terrible. Im a good student and couldnt pass this class. Ive never gotten an F in math in my life
He is very unclear about things, such as what will be on the exams/class. No true study guides. He can be rude times. He gets upset if you dont ask questions, but if you ask questions he laughs at you or gets frustrated, or says that the thing youre asking about is a prerequisite you should know. Textbook also has incorrect answers to problems.
this teacher has no idea what he is doing. I was very good at math in high school and he made me feel like Im dumb. Doesnt answer questions and blames students bad grades on ourselves and not him. His test was nothing like what we talked about in class.
Switch profs. The lecture material, aleks homework, packets with the TA, book and exams all seem to be going over different concepts. I never knew how to prep for an exam because there was no good way to figure out exactly what content we were going over. Refused to curve exams and only curved the final after nearly everyone failed. ALEKS matters.
Worse teacher Ive ever had. Wouldnt go over the material when we would ask. I had a 59% in his class at the end of the semester and all of a sudden got a C because almost the whole class would have failed. Every test grade was curved and he stopped assigning in person classwork when we would go in because no one was passing.
I took this online in 2020. It was awful because he was not helpful at all and all he did was read the textbook to us. If you asked him a question because you were confused he would just say I don't understand why you don't get it. Also, our exam was 100 questions in 120 minutes. It was ridiculous. He was also just really rude in general.
i literally hated him
DO NOT TAKE ANY MATH WITH THIS MAN!! I took Precalculus with Dylan White, one of the TA's and LOVED it... however Erik made the final. He hardly gave us a study guide and half of the final had content that was not even taught. This class ruined my 4.0 GPA only because of the final.
Was not unclear like others say, but tests were pretty challenging. Study and you will do fine.
Absolutely awful, lectures were not at all helpful because he would speed through important material and then get frustrated when someone had a question or did not understand. He would not tell us what was going to be on the exams. Everyone I know dropped the course. He simply did not care about the class or his students.
He's pretty friendly and holds office hours regularly. The tests are really hard though and you have to know details to get a good grade. This was a lab class so he didn't do much teaching. All homework was groupwork and he's not a fast grader.
Replaced my Dif Eq professor in April when he became ill. Then had a grad student teach for 2/4 weeks. Changed the final exam format from our previous professor's but when asked if he could lower the 40% weight for it, that was suddenly out of his control. I will say the final had the exact format as HW questions (thank God).
Extremely passive aggressive. Khan academy/Youtube lectures will become your best friend. Attendance and projects help your grade, but they are not factored in until final grades are delivered. The class average for the whole semester was around 50-70% before attendance points were added. He does not curve.
As a person he is a great guy who cares about his students but how he grades the class is agonizing. The exams were so hard, and I put so many hours and late nights into the class. It's just a tough class, but he really does try to make sure you understand it and has so many office hours. The final is also worth 40% of your grade which was insane.
Precalc is ran by TAs but he makes the exams, the exams I took before withdrawing were insanely more difficult than what is done in class. Also very tough grader so yeah, some got it some don't for his class.
TAKE THE EASY CLASS HE SUCKS
He's not a bad lecturer, but the way he grades, does exams, and answers questions is terrible. More than half of my class dropped not even halfway through the semester. He makes exams intentionally confusing and hard then berates you and tells you to drop the class when you inevitably do bad on them. First exam average was a 30-40%. Doesn't curve
Its a challenging class, but if you do the work outside of class, you can get good grades on the exams. Homework is easy, exams are hard, studying is a must. He is always accessible through Teams.
He was not good at giving enough examples
Precalc with this professor is no easy feat. Exams are much harder than the class material. Consider using unstuck study alongside the textbook to prepare - it helped me get through this tricky course.
Horrible horrible horrible… I already know I am going to fail this class because of this professor. He can not teach. He is unorganized in all of his lectures and is very intimidating.
Dr. Erik Boczko is a genuine man. He cares for his students, and he is always there to help. His class is well-structured, and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit (In recitation and on exams). However, you must attend lectures, as that is where all of the learning is done, and practice problems are completed in recitation. GLHF.
Dr. B is a very chill teacher who provides plenty of extra credit opportunities and has well prepared, hilarious lectures.
Be prepared to spend more than 2x the time in this class than any core classes. Exams are very difficult and partial credit is scarce. Take it with Uspenski, it's not worth it.
he will haunt my nightmares for the next thirty years (this is not a joke please save yourself)
To succeed in this class, do ALL of the optional WebAssign questions listed in the syllabus. Also, make sure to stay consistent with the time that you study, I'd say a few hours a week is enough to get a great grade. Tests can be difficult but 99% of questions are pulled directly from the questions in the syllabus. Also, go to office hours!!
I'm barely halfway done with this class and this professor is just awful. His tests are not possible. They have insane standards of what to do and questions that you never learned. This class is horrible please don't take a class with this professor, not to mention he doesn't actually teach, ALEKS does it all.
He's the worst, I can't believe this man still has a job in 2025. Heard he is also on probation for how ass he is. Please save your time and don't have this man as your professor. I don't think I've heard any good things about this guy. Should be fired. I don't understand how he's teaching when the class has a 37% passing rate. Terrible.
I drove to class with my seatbelt off in the hopes that I'd crash before I had to go to his class. He barely teaches, and the entire course is centered around an online program, ALEKS. It's practically an online course, and on the rare occasion he does teach, his notes are confusing and hard to follow. Save yourself and test out of pre-calc.
This class is very hard, and the tests are almost impossible. Save yourself and test out of this class. If you take this class do all the homework it will save you. Do as many knowledge checks as possible outside of class so that you can get more topics mastered.
so bad. He doesn't even teach, you'll get a T.A., who doesn't even know how to teach the class.Go to PAL sessions for the bonus points, they'll boost your grade a lot. Literally worst class I have ever done, it's all Aleks. Take it through your community college bc OU's math department is so bad
Avoid this class at all costs. TA might be good if you're lucky. Might as well be an online class, attendance was not mandatory and if it was, would be pointless anyway. The material itself is easy if you have some preexisting mathematical capabilities, but the teaching. Not good. I love math and this course almost made me lose my love for it
This was the worst possible intro to college math. The entire course is based off of an online website ALEKS, he does little to no actual teaching. It is 99% self taught, making the exams impossible to do well on. Save yourself and take it with a different professor or test out if possible. He single handedly dropped the passing rate of MATH1300.
I retook this class with him. Not the best professor but the aleks format of his class was really easy. Practices tests (on aleks) were very similar to the real exam. Much easier class than the previous professor I had. I also did not go to a lecture the entire year besides the mandatory knowledge check ones he does.
