Class discussions are very entertaining and interesting. Somewhat difficult grader.
The lectures are awesome, and overall the class is a lot funner then my other english classes, however the grading is a bit difficult:(. Dr. Bond is a cutie too!
He was very smart. I learned alot from his class. I don't like english classes, but his was my favorite class that semester! (He was cute too)
really quite brilliant, especially considering his (young) age. a fair grader, informative and entertaining. good teeth, too.
Bond is great! I think he's a fair grader and is the only English teacher I've had that actually allows you to have your own opinion as long as you support it. His lectures are awesome too! Best and most interesting English class I've ever had! And what a hottie!
Funny guy, very flamboyant, good lectures, the material sucks and there's a lot to read. The main paper wasn't bad, but the final was pretty tough, need to read and prepare well.
his behavior is distracting...
Dr. Bond is the best teacher that I have ever had. He is very fair and is always willing to help a student out. The lectures are fun. He is very intellegent and energetic. I would definately say his classes are worth taking. It is also not bad that he is extremely cute :)
Excellent lecturer, classes were always very interesting. Grades a bit hard, though.
Awesome Proff. He is VERY clear about what he expects. His is always available to help. Very tough grader esp. on papers. Lots and Lots of books to buy (I had seven for one class!). You will learn a lot, and will not be bored with the lectures. I highly recommend any class with him.
Fabulous in every sense of the word. You'll come for his impeccable dress and flawless grooming, but you'll stay for the clever arguments and truly interesting literary interpretations. He does demand a lot, but probably won't call on you if you hide in the back. One of the better professors at UMD.
Cool teacher. This girl that responded under me really wants to bone Bond. I bet she got off in his class.
this feminist hot bod brings Boswell's rakish personality to life with his preppy-boy flamboyance and charming wit. If Austin were alive today, she would marry this professing genius.Take his class, but be prepared to sweat.
Would love to take him again. His teaching style is fun. I really was not to interested in the material covered in class, however, Bond really made the class enjoyable. By the way, You better take your "goggles" off before entering his class. Damn wordsworth and coleridge
Major ego-maniac. You better pray you don't ever need help with anything or have a family emergency. The guy is impossible to talk to. Other than that he's an interesting lecturer if you can stomach his sarcasm.
Originally, I had no interest in this subject matter other than needing it to graduate. Interest insued however. Bond is passionate about his subject matter and is very open to comments/discussions that vary from his opinion. Overall, a favourable learning enviroment!
Not that he needs an ego boost, but he's absolutely brilliant. At first, I thought he was completely pompous and in love with his own opinion, but he is actually very helpful and easy to talk to. He'll go far. I'm impressed!
He might seem pretentious, but he's a great person. Definitely keeps you awake. Brilliant and funny! Highly recommended.
So awesome. Hot. And well-dressed. And a total genius. Dr. Bond seems pretentious and like a pompous ass at first but then you figure out that he's totally great and brilliant. Yay.
Bond works hard to get you to think hard. His lectures are crafted to be as entertaining as they are informative. So they're challenging but fun. And he's really interested in what you have to say. You learn a lot because he's so willing to learn from you. After his class, you look at things differently.
Bond is very nice and will NEVER put you down for any opinion you give. For our class, 2 short papers, 1 final paper with some research-we pick topic, final exam, pepy's diary-write about each play we read, and promptbook-pick a passage from one play, read it to class and say why it's important. Not a hard grader. Very enthusiastic!
Dr. Bond is an excellent professor and an excellent human being. I took three classes with him and enjoyed them all. He's nice, BRILLIANT, hilarious, and always willing to help his students. U of M-Dearborn is quite lucky to have such a man. And damn is he hot!
Bond is the best teacher I've ever had. Lucky for us he teaches at UMD; he belongs somewhere much more prestigious. If you want to truly appreciate literature, his lectures will open your eyes to things you had no idea existed. He is extremely open to everyone else's interpretations, and is helpful outside of class as well. Highly recommended.
A Gilderoy Lockhart clone in more ways than one. Certainly not all he's cracked up to be. If you don't click with him on a personal level, it will be reflected in his grading of your papers.
Gilderoy Lockheart... good one. You may want to avoid him if the extent of your literary knowledge is the Harry Potter series. This guy is incredibly smart, thought-provoking, and an inspiration -- especially to a future educator.
In search of a good teacher? The buck stops here. Smart, interesting, and fun. Personally, I was not to interested in the material covered in class, but Dr. Bond does indeed make you enjoy the course as well as the material. I did not "click with him on a personal level" as many people say you need, and he was more than willing to help me out.
very clear and interesting class discussions. you have to do the reading, but he always explains everything so you're never left in the dark.
This was an fun class, considering it was English Lit. He made it interesting and we never had a dull moment, not to mention he's pretty good looking. Maybe some of the readings could of been better, but all in all not too bad. I would really take another class with him. We only had midterm and final paper and a final exam. That's pretty good.
ENGL200 is the new pre-req for all English majors. You'll cover EVERYTHING about english studies including all the schools of criticism. Dr. Bond is an excellent professor and does a great job teaching the material, just make sure you do the readings and take lots of notes. 7 short papers (5 graded), final paper, 3 exams, 'toolbox' and a final.
Do not get me wrong. His class is not easy because it is "easy." Bond is easy because he is a brilliant teacher who explains everything with full and clear details. I never found myself confused or lost in class, and I always knew what he was teaching. I feel I have learned more from him about English Studies than I have from any other class.
Professor Bond is one of the best professors I have had so far at UMD. He wants everyone to understand and will take the time to explain until there are no more questions. His lectures are engaging and he's a hilarious guy - I would recommend him to anyone!!
He is the best proff ever!! i would take a class with him just because he is teaching it even if im not interested in the topic! not easy class but worth every min of it! i actually enjoyed coming to class! and i learned so much more then in any other class
He is one of the funniest people I've ever met. He is the most approachable Prof. He is extremely clever, but don't be intimidated! He actually listens and cares about your opinions, too. He seems to have an excellent memory in regards to his students, so don't do something stupid - he'll remember. His classes are interesting and fun, take him!
He is an a A**hole! He is not of any help at all. He expects you do write and interpret things the way he does. He is a very hard grader! I am an A and B student and he gave me a D for his class! BEWARE
Professor Bond was amazing...He made learning English fun...and helpful for my other classes as well...You need to come to class, especially if you don't always read, but he's a great teacher. Plan on taking him again...
Consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to be taught by Dr. Bond. He really knows both the material and how to convey it in an interesting way, and he'll never put you down if you can back up your opinions. He is very helpful outside of class as well. TAKE HIM ANY CHANCE YOU GET!
this proffesor need is really wired and he doesn't clear direction on his assimnent. i will not recomend this teacher
Dr. Bond is one of the best professors in the Humanities Department. If you really want to learn how to look at "canon" material from a different point of view this is the professor to take. I had Dr. Bond for three classes and took something away from each class. He is tough if you cannot back up your argurments, but is a very fair grader.
Bond is the best professor I've ever had, hands down. He is extremely insightful, enthusiastic, and entertaining. Same format as all his classes: 2 short papers (3-4p), a final paper (6-8p), and a final exam. Just make sure you do the readings and take notes... you will never look at literature the same way again.
He expects a lot from his students. Every lecture felt like a mental workout. But I loved it. His lectures are very interesting. He cares about his students. He is a harsh grader, especially at first, but it gets better as the class progresses. Take him if you want to learn. Overall, he's one of the best professors at UMD. Plus he looks damn good.
I have enjoyed his classes, you have to study hard for his exams. Not a hard grader, the important thing is that you have to prove what your saying, using lots of evidence from text.
Prof. Bond is a great teacher. I am not an english major, nor do I have interest in Restoration Drama, but i actually enjoyed going to class. I recommend him to everyone because of his intellect and sense of humor. Also it doesn't hurt that he's a damn good looking guy.
he is not at all easy...but i never minded the work bc i was honestly learning so much...it was kind of fun!!! i mean honestly ive never learned so much in an english class and he really made me appreciate the literature and look at it in a new light. i didnt get the A i wanted...but id definitly take him again. just to the readings and ull be fine
This class was so refreshing, because Bond teaches students to use tools that most of us never knew existed. He's demanding, but helpful and fair. Class is always entertaining, because he is clever and funny. He's quite handsome, but it pales in comparison to his intellect. The man is brilliant! Do yourself a favor, and take any of his classes.
I took him in 200 & hated it--I thought he made it very hard for no good reason. I took him again for 312 & knew I was wrong. The things that he taught me in 200 have made me a stronger ENGL concentrator & I owe a lot to him. Word to the wise, if you're concentrating in ENGL, be sure to take him for 200--it's hard, but totally worth it in the end.
Ever since taking Dr. Bond for Engl 200, I've made sure to take one of his classes every semester. Sitting in his classes has done more to improve my writing ability than three writing courses at UMD. He is very demanding and will expect a great deal from your papers, but he is always available and willing to help you out. Tons of good reading.
Erik Bond is the smartest man alive. I have learned so much from him and I wish I would have taken more classes with him. Going to class is fun and interesting. Bond is fabulous and brilliant and I love his teaching style.
Absolutely the best professor I have taken at UM-D. He is intelligent, funny, and definitely willing to help any students who come to him for it. The class was a lot of work, but it's worth it given how much you learn and improve in writing. I'll definitely be taking more classes with Bond. Take him if you can!
RESTORATION DRAMA: The absolute best English/Lit professor I've ever had! Bond is challenging, but provides a solid foundation of knowledge from which students can succeed. I can't wait to take another class with him! He's amazing!!!!!
He is very helpful and nice teacher, he give good way of teaching to students and very very helpful
Very nice and entertaining. You will do well as long as you try.
Professor Bond is an excellent professor. He is very clear in his explanations and has an effective teaching style. If you are looking to learn and have a good discussion, go to his office hours. The class is not a walk in the park; you will have to do work. For that reason, you will learn.
Without a doubt my favorite professor. Bond was very entertaining and never had a dull moment, he always found great ways or examples to relate everything together. He taught me how to write better than my comp prof did, and his assignments were fun and intuitive to do. Overall a grade A teacher
By far the best professor I've ever had. He can be a bit of a harsh grader for essays, but you learn so much about how to be a better writer. Go to class! Participation is key and the discussions are amazing. I would also suggest going to his office hours just to chat. He really listens to what you have to say and incorporates it into his lecture
Excellent professor! He is concise in his explanations and expectations are abundantly clear. His energy and thorough knowledge of the subject keep it interesting. Expect to work for the grade, but to learn a great deal. My writing improved a great deal, as did my understanding of the subject matter. I will definitely take him again!
Did not learn from this Prof. Assigned work all semester and he only had us turn in two assignments when he felt like collecting them which was not fair I had projects and stuff to do in other classes but had to do his work just in case he collected it. He was not clear on any of his essays he had us write. He did not teach me anything. Don't take
He made everything in class so relevant and interesting. I never expected to learn so much that I believe I will carry with me for the rest of my life--rather than do a memory dump like all of my other classes. His grading helps you learn how to polish your ideas and is quite fair. He definitely appreciates effort as well--Highly recommend him!
Had to take for my major, but glad I did. I learned so much from this class, Bond was always engaging and loved what he taught. About once a week he reminds the English majors that their career is a good one, never puts anyone down. His grading is tough, but fair, and you'll learn a lot. My grades improved with each paper. Highly recommend.
TAKE HIS CLASS. I absolutely love Professor Bond. He is an easy grader for the most part and gives you loads of help before writing papers. ie. structure and what exactly the paper should include. He is very nice, funny, and attractive! If you are looking for a class to make friends and learn a lot about how to write for college take LIBS with him.
Never pass up an opportunity to take a class taught by Bond; you will learn a lot. His lectures are very compelling, and he knows what he's talking about. He's a stickler when it comes to deadlines; make sure you submit papers on time.
Outstanding professor. Two four page papers, one two pager, and a midterm and a final. Bond is an incredible professor. Engaging, smart, funny, and very clear about what he wants. Sometimes he goes off on a tangent, but it's always entertaining. I highly recommend taking Bond for any class he teaches.
Best professor I have had in the 3 years I have gone to school at U of MD. Going to his class is like watching a live show, always entertaining and very relatable. I did not truly feel like an English major until I took his class!
Best English Professor at UMD by a mile. Clear in his expectations, helpful if you make the time to ask for help, and frankly I learned more from his classes then I have my entire college career. His classes are challenging but not impossible, everything is geared towards improvement. I'm taking my 3rd class with him this semester. Highly recommend
Queer Theory and Literature! One of the best Lit classes I've ever taken. Seriously keeps you interested in the material. No exams, but 4-5 writing assignments. Takes attendance daily. Funny, yet gets the point across. This is a MUST for any WGST Major or Minor. You will read SEVERAL books in this course, so be ready to read.
Gilderoy Lockhart, in the flesh! Professor Bond is weird, arrogant, handsome(ish), often incorrect, and averse to criticism. He also has some flashes of pure brilliance, and his energy level in class always keeps things interesting. Your head will spin. I'm not sure if I love him or hate him.
Professor Bond is my favorite instructor and I've taken him for three courses. He is lively, engaging, thorough and knowledgeable. He encourages lively debate and respects diversity. He's a tough grader but you will learn and enjoy the process.
I can't get my head wrapped around how brilliant this professor is. His class was one of the most interesting classes that I've taken. He is a bit challenging when it comes to grading but the class is so worthwhile that it encourages you to put all your effort into it. If you are an english major, don't miss the opportunity to take his class!
Best prof I have ever had. Very clear and wants you to know what he expects. 4 papers, 1 revision, and 2 random homework assignments. Gives enough time for you to write your paper. Learned the most from this prof. Going to make sure I take him again!
I took 312 with Professor Bond as a 3-hour lecture, and he made it fly by. There is a bit of thespian in him that works its way into his lectures. Takes class comments into consideration: recognizes new viewpoints and sometimes comes to new conclusions. Delightful to speak to outside of class, too. Big on student rights: he helped me defend mine.
I really enjoyed Bond's class. You will never fall asleep or be bored. He's very entertaining and engaging. You have to earn the grade and he's a fair grader. I would take him again.
Professor Bond is a great professor. His lectures are so interesting that it always surprised me when class is over. His lectures should be longer. His class always keeps me busy between papers and reading for class. I am taking his English 312 in the Fall, because I loved English 200 so much.
I've taken Bond for 3 ENGL classes, mostly because by this point I know what to expect. His classes truly feel like college courses and will keep you busy. He's super nice and engaging, but things can get intense. Also his hot chili pepper rating confuses me. Have any of you seen the way this man dresses!?
"Literature is a conversation." I took his class 5 years ago and his lectures still ring my mind. He is a fantastic man, a great lecturer, and wants you to succeed. You will work for that success, be clear about that, but you aren't going to have an experience as unique or fun with about anyone else.
One of the best. Had the pleasure of being a student of his 4 times. Creative, enthusiastic, funny, smart and charming. He really knows his stuff and you can tell he wants you to succeed. However you do have to work for it as to he is a hard grader but if you do the readings, pay attention in class you'll do great. highly recommend!!
Instead of teaching what to know, Prof. Bond teaches how to know. He teaches his students how to learn rather than preaching about what he already knows. Very opinionated. Extremely intelligent guy.
Take his class
If you are an English major, do not pass up an opportunity to take Professor Bond. His lectures are amazing, & he will keep you engaged the entire time. He truly wants you to learn & wants you to gain something from his class. He is very receptive to viewpoints other than his own. The reading/writing aspect of the course is manageable. Take him!
Bond is very good professor! He does give a lot of readings and assignments but, when it comes to exams as long as you study your lecture notes you'll be fine. If you're not passionate about English I would recommend a different course but overall he isn't that bad.
Easy class if you're good at "reading closely" and writing. This class definitely helped me improve my writing skills. He is a hard grader, but he gives good feedback. Make sure to follow his rules for discussions and papers. He is a very intelligent professor.
Most phenomenal professor I have ever had, and this is coming from someone who rather sleep all day than attend school. His classes were something I legitimately looked forward to!! I highly recommend that you choose him when selecting your courses for the semester! You're missing out if you don't!
Two words. TAKE. NOTES. Whenever he speaks. Anything this man says can and will be used on a future paper, of which there are 2-3 depending on the semester and whatnot. Get all of the books he requires, cuz he uses them ALL. Consider buying the Norton Anthology, since you'll probably need them for all the ENGL 310 series.
Professor Bonds teaching style is very interesting and makes you want to learn more, especially during a pandemic. He is a tough grader but in the best way possible, he wants you to do better and is extremely kind. You have to work for the class but it is great! 2 papers, 2 quizzes, weekly discussion boards and homework, and a self evaluation.
Long lectures and wants you to read things that are not going to be talked about throughout the class. I read two chapters of The Great Gatsby and didn't read Hamlet at all. Still got a B in the class. Just used Sparknotes to get myself through the class.
Phenomenal professor! Super entertaining and funny personality, knows how to get you genuinely excited to study literature. Professional, knowledgeable, and clearly loves what he does. Detailed feedback. Make sure you take notes bc a LOT is covered in lectures, but all super eye-opening. A good amount of reading, but it's a lit. course, after all.
This class was very interesting! We got to read a lot of literature that I'd never even heard of before. Bond is a great professor, and gives very helpful information and feedback, not just on your assignments but for life in general. You can tell that he really cares. The only thing I didn't like was that there was not much to be graded on.
To be clear, when he says "this is probably the most you will read for a course in your mortal life"... he means it. Erik Bond is hilarious, understanding, and overall a great professor. I have heard that his in-person classes are even better! While I ranked this course as difficult, it's because I have trouble listening to long online lectures.
By far the most impactful professor I have ever met. The material is amazing. The lecture delivery is unmatched. Even if you never would have thought to give much care for a specific text, he made it engaging and always made sure to draw in real life into it. Super meaningful, thoughtful, and absolute AMAZING professor! Not a single bad aspect!
he was great, lectures were actually interesting, he is always open for discussions
very very picky with essays. does not reply to emails if theyre more than 2 sentences long
Amazing, lectures were interesting. Had a decent amount of readings to do but they weren't the worst thing in the world. A good amount of writing assignments but he was a fair grader. Loved his class
Love Professor Bond, he's very captivating, and it makes the class worthwhile. I had him for Gothic Lit but I forgot which number it was so I just put it as several.
The lectures were very fun and I learned a lot. He can be a "tough" grader, but if you ever have any questions you can ask him. He wants to help you succeed and do the best you can in the class. As long as you put in the effort you will be fine.
I took Professor Bond for English 311, and he was amazing. Attendance is mandatory as his tests are based on his lectures. He is super helpful, and his passion for the texts we read makes you passionate. I would recommend him to anyone!
He is an excellent professor—genuine too. Passionate and extremely educated about his subjects. Makes mundane things interesting. Fair grader—put in effort and it will show. Pay attention and take notes in class. His lectures will make you think about things in ways you've never even considered. Don't miss the opportunity to take Dr. Bond's class!
