Everyday Craft would show a powerpoint presentation and read off of it. If you learn well like this, then take him, but it was hard for me to follow everything... somehow I ended up with a B, but I'm not sure I'd take him again.
Not clear or helpful, can't answer questions and extremelly boring
He's a nice guy, just kinda boring. His review sessions are no help and he can't answer many of your questions.
He is very boring, does not answer questions well, and makes you memorize too many useless facts instead of concentrating on the general concepts as an intro class should.
very boring. good dude, tough concepts. i fell asleep almost everyday. hes a tough grader to so
I love Dr. Craft. He is such a nice guy and is really nice if you show interest and participate in class. If you get on his good side he'll really help out if you have any problems about the material.
He is wonderful! Very interesting class!
Not the most exciting professor I've ever had. Also, if you aren't on the same "unique" wavelength as he is when you are answering problems, you're out of luck. He has a vision of what the answer should be and is not open to any other interpretation of it. :(
took it over the summer, so I only had 4 weeks of him. I put in a lot of work and effort, but got an A. Basically, if you work hard and don't give up, you'll do ok.
Craft is mediocre at best. He is a tough grader and proceeds to make up some economic terms. Doesn't offer clear explanations, he stutters and fumbles around. Leaves you more confused. If you work hard you will do well. If you need help outside of class, find classmates b/c he won't help.
nice guy overall but doesn't answer questions very well, put me to sleep often. still, you can get a B for not too much effort
Really nice guy, awful teacher. If you have him, be ready to teach yourself from the book. And don't expect any clarity if you go to him for help. Really smart guy, just can't explain the material in a way you can understand. Easy grader if you elaborate and bs a lot. Got B+ with very little effort.
good guy, tries hard to not make you feel stupid, and runs a pretty easy class until test-time. he grades pretty tough and is less likely to give partial credit to BS answers. still not too hard to get a B, though.
Unable to convey simple ideas to the class. Very insecure in terms of teaching! Might be a nice guy but really unsociable. Never encouraged going to office hours. Gave tests that he won't be able to solve himslef if asked! Avoid him whenever for any class / except for principles perhaps!
Dr. Craft is a very pleasant man. His class was pretty simple as long as you put a little effort into it. He is pretty easy going and a very good teacher. Classes could get a little sleepy sometimes, praticallary while lecturing without keeping the class involved. If you are always able to get a goo
He's a pretty good teacher. His class is very structured, so as long as you keep up with the reading you'll be fine. Loves it if you ever go in for help on the problem sets.
First time teaching the course so I'll give him a break. Class was definitely challenging and I got some pretty bad grades on assignments. Difficulty is partly based on the material and partly on his lack of experience in teaching it. He is a great guy but kind of awkward and not very helpful. I got a A- only b/c I studied like crazy for final.
He's a nice guy and he gives ONLINE TESTS!!!
Ehh..Alright guy
He is a nice guy and tries hard to keep the class upbeat. His problem sets can be confusing/unclear sometimes but the quizzes aren't bad. Tests aren't too difficult if you know his powerpoints (which he puts online) inside out.
awesome guy who thinks up really creative ways to make the subject interesting... take him
Dr. Craft is one of the best at UR. You gotta take his class, for serious.
This is a lecture class, but there are a few fun class experiments throughout the year. Don't take this class just to fulfill a gen-ed. Not an easy A if you haven't had an econ background.
Very disappointing. This professor was once good but has now moved to teach matter that he is unfamiliar with and does not offer clarity or assistance. He does not give exams related to the text at all and the grading scale is random.
Nice teacher. I had trouble staying awake at 8:15 since it's lecture-based. He has some fun in-class experiments, but his problem sets can be difficult. His final isn't bad if you pay attention to what he keeps stressing. Attendance is helpful, but I missed some and did just fine. Make sure to print off his PowerPoints online and study them well.
I absolutely hated craft. He switched books this semester and it seemed like he was teaching separate from the text, plus I found him very confusing and when I asked him to clarify he would just repeat himself instead of try and make me understand. Least favorite class i have taken at UR mainly bc of him.
Craft understands the material but does not do a good job explaining material to students who don't.His tests are hard and his problem sets are tricky. However, he is incredibly organized. He passes back tests and problem sets the day after he gets them and goes over it in class. He isn't an easy teacher so don't take the class if you want an easy A
this guy sucks, if possible please take my advice and avoid I did pretty well but if you want a straight A good luck, take him only if you are ready to get rocked.
his class was hell; fell asleep almost class because the lectures are boring...he doesnt explain things very well either; hard grader
good, but kind of boring.
He has just about weekly quizzes online. I studied and did well but the quizzes took forever, almost 3 hours each time, very annoying especially friday afternoons/nights! I spent countless hours studying and still did poorly on the exams! If you can help it take a different teacher: NOT dean but I've heard Mckay or mcgoldrick are good.
Nice & understanding of special circumstances - willing to work with you. That said, lectures are somewhat monotonous & hard to understand if you haven't had Micro Theory (271). The material is complex, even for someone who enjoys econ.
Dr. Craft is the boss.
I feel privleged to have taken Dr.Craft's Law and Economics class. It was a life changing experience. I would encourage anyone to take this class, people who write negative views confuse me because everyone in my class loved him.
Good guy, knows everything considering economics, not good at teaching it. A harsh grader, not even the tutor I saw understood fully what we were doing. Do not take, unless you have a large vocab, can stand boring lectures, and do not want a straight A.
Just not a good teacher, really disappointed.
I loved professor craft! He is extremely helpful and very understanding of special circumstances. I don't think his class is hard, the tests are based on lectures and textbook. If you pay attenion in class and go in for office hours once in a while he will really like you. He is a little dry and boring but he knows what he's talking about
Professor Craft is adorable, really passionate about his subject, wants his students to understand, doesn't care if you come to class or not but it hurts you in the end not to go
Very eccentric and quirky - his jokes and stories are hilarious because they're just kind of weird. Great professor, answers questions well, class is relatively interesting, reading is somewhat necessary depending on your understanding. Weekly-ish online quizzes cut into drinking time on Saturdays, and can hurt your grade if you forget them.
Please look for a different professor. He provides very little explanations of paper grades. Be warned: his FYS is purely a literature class, taught by a prof who has no experience teaching this subject. Extremely unhelpful, inaccessible, and out of touch. I you do not value your education or GPA, take this prof.
Craft is a brilliant man but NOT a very good teacher. He is Socially awkward and itt is hard to understand the multiple choice questions that he writes. I love econ and still found his class incredibly boring and miserable.
The online quizzes are so difficult and annoying!! Nice guy but not a good teacher. Do not choose his class or his FYS.
He is a nice guy and he is helpful, but he is not a good teacher. His tests are very hard and online quizzes were as well. He teaches way too fast and there is never time for review.
This guy was the worst professor I ever had. Very discouraging in office hours made me feel stupid and like I shouldn't have been at UR. You have to work hard and teach yourself from the book. If you are willing to spend 6 hours studying before taking the online quizzes you will be able to get a B. DONT TAKE THIS PROF
350 characters do not justly describe what this FYS has done to me this semester. Not only is my GPA down, my workload has increased, social life deteriorated, and overall well-being worsened. Unclear, unhelpful, and disinterested in his students' eagerness to learn and succeed, Erik Craft redefines what it means to be a bad teacher. Never take it.
Excellent professor. Did an independent study with him; I cannot think of a single thing to complain about in both his teaching or his personality.
Worst class I took at Richmond. I wanted to cry everyday in class. It was so boring and Craft had unfair and unrealistic expectations. Stay away!!!
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. His readings are very long and seemed to be random. 4 papers, a midterm, and a final are to be expected. His class is mostly literature based and if you don't agree with his interpretation of the book he thinks you are an idiot. I can not stand this man and he has hurt my GPA. DO NOT TAKE!!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. he is brilliant, but NOT a good teacher. made me hate economics. teaches differently from the book but then the online quizzes are from the book. you end up learning two different forms of the same concept, which can be confusing. Not much of help office hours.Basically teaching myself and with help of tutors.Good luck!
The worst professor ever! His lectures and readings from the textbook he assigns never match up which end up confusing me half the time. His quizzes are hard. The man is a genius but does not know how to explain the material in laymans term so you're screwed if you haven't taken this course in high school before. Seriously do not take his class.
If you study you can do very well in this class. The quizzes are online given by a 3rd party, and the questions are basically word-for-word from the text. The two mid-terms and one final are straightforward and definitely fair. Study hard and you'll do well. I had never taken econ before and, while the classes were ridiculously boring, thumbs up.
FYS was the worst experience with a class I have ever had. Had straight As in highschool but received my first and only C+ in this course. He would not consider your opinion if it did not agree perfectly with his and he tried to teach on writing and literature (two things that he knew little about).
Please don't take Dr Craft. He is a good guy but not a good professor. He is one of the worst professors I have taken here.
Dr. Craft is a good teacher who expects a lot out of his students. I learned much more from him than I thought I would since I had already taken the course. Tests are moderately difficult. Very fair grader. Problem sets are very hard but he'll basically give you the answers during his office hours if you ask the right questions.
I took both ECON 101 & his FYS(Am Econ History). To do well: participate in class, go to office hours ask for feedback, he appreciates persistence. Sometimes he is hard to understand and he has online quizzes every Friday night, but put in the work and you'll be fine. FYS, not that good. He tries to intergrate literature, but he is an econ prof.
Dr. Craft expects participation out of all of his students and will call on you during class. He expects every student to do the readings and there are short quizzes every class. He tries to expand students knowledge on tests by introducing harder concepts. He admits its not supposed to be easy
Pros: -Solid understanding of concepts, and can explain them clearly. -Nice guy who is enthusiastic about his work -Everything needed to understand Econ 101 is in the book, not a lot up for interpretation. Cons: -Online lectures are too long -Class examples take too long imo Other stuff: -Take 101 if you like hearing about Norwegian Folk Dancing.
Dr. Craft is right for you if you want to do the bulk of learning by watching his daily online lectures. These lectures are monotonous and get boring, but you have to watch them and if you don't, you still have a daily quiz to look forward to. You can also count on Craft to put you on the spot in the middle of class at least five times.
Most people hate on Dr. Craft's online lectures but I think they're really helpful. I don't think the workload for the class is too bad. I think his corny jokes and quirky personality are hilarious. You have to do your homework to do well on the daily quizzes. He does call on you randomly which I don't like but it gets you to pay attention
I really enjoyed the flipped classroom approach with the online lectures. Craft is a funny guy, so it made the subject somewhat more bearable. Tests are pretty tough but he is always fair.
Really quirky guy that tries to make class fun by including jokes and stuff from his personal life, but not the most amazing professor. Doesnt explain things thoroughly and often rushes through his lessons, leaving students confused. Gives daily quizzes so you have to do your reading. Only 3 exams, and theyre very difficult. Very tough grader.
Did all online lectures so I was never bored in class. He's a good guy and pretty funny. Just study a ton for the midterms and final and you'll do fine.
I loved Dr. Craft, he really cares, if you do your part you will do fine, easy to do well, hard to do very well. Great professor
Quizzes every class based on online lectures (which are somewhat helpful, do watch them the class will be significantly easier). Tries to keep things light and interesting, sometimes fails - kind of awkward but really likes what he does. First third is easy, strive for over a 94 on the test. Second and Third parts are more difficult, work hard.
Dr. Craft is a low-quality professor. Avoid taking him. He did a reverse classroom approach by having us watch his online lectures outside of class. He talks very slowly and struggles to explain simple economics principles. When students are clearly confused in class, he doesn't attempt to elaborate and will move on without a decent explanation.
A lot of people give him a hard time but he's a great professor. I blamed his "teaching style" for my poor grades the first half but then I started doing exactly what he said (taking notes on the online lectures, doing all the readings, additional practice problems, etc) and it got a lot better. Makes you work hard but he knows what he's doing.
Thinking about taking ECON101? DONT take Craft. He assigns so much reading every single night from an expensive textbook+ online software. Class is lecture based only. In class quizzes everyday. Doesn't do practice problems in class. Tests are insanely difficult and all word problems and multiple choice. Want you GPA down the drain? Take Craft.
You bascally have to teach yourself the class for homework. Infamous my Econ lab quizzes that require you to pull knowledge from as little as one line from the chapter (plus he makes them all due Saturday instead of Sunday for some reason). With the amount of work given you would not realize it's only one class
Underrated professor. Craft is really kooky and weird in an adorable way, and has some funny stories. People dislike him because of his daily quizzes, but the quizzes make sure you do the homework and you end up understanding the material really well.
You think you are doing great, but really you are not. The participation in class is very dynamic and manages to get almost everyone engaged and excited for the class, however, participation will not influence your grade, making the class purelly based on testing.
He tends not to inflict harsh enough humiliation on his students who have clearly not done the reading. I'll say this freely, since I've fallen into that category more than once. Instead, he will answer his own questions for them. Tough but fair grader. Class tends to feel long, but he is clearly very passionate about what he teaches. Good for FYS!
was not that difficult. He makes you read the whole book.I did not like the test part because it was 1 min per question and the questions were about 2chapters and it was multiple choice but asked for dates specific and things that it is hard to memorize. The midterm and final are 60 quest in 1h. the score is out of 940 not 1000 that's why i got 'C
Craft was one of the hardest professors I have had simply because he expectations were so insanely convoluted to the point you never knew exactly what he wanted. I went to office hours once a week and thought I was doing great. Craft will be looking for specific terms or points in test answers, but questions make what he is looking for unclear
Not an easy pass but for sure you will learn the material. I appreciate his lecture just be prepared to put in work. I would suggest taking him.
He is really good with his subject and has different styles of teaching in different sections. My section performed really well and he is very organised and you will really like studying economics under him.
It is true that the online lectures are annoying but they really help if you take notes and listen carefully. He is a very passionate and organized about what he is doing. The practice on class can also help you through the solving process and totally understand them!
Craft seems to be a smart guy, but he has limited ability to convey his thoughts in a way that all students understand. Awkward in his delivery at times, and he goes back to the same cliches regularly. I taught myself the content of this class with the text. His lectures do not include enough detailed examples. Despite this, a B is very doable.
Dr. Craft is a tough teacher but a fair grader. If economics is something you are interesting then he is the best teacher for it. He is a very good teacher and knows a lot about econ.
Definitely a hard course; however, Craft is very knowledgeable on the subject and if you are willing to work hard and read every night than you will learn a ton. A lot of my friends that took micro with other profs had higher grades, but did not learn nearly as much. I worked hard to get a B in the class, but thought it was worth it in the long run
Doctor Craft is a well-prepared teacher whose class is very fair. If you do all of the work and put in the effort than you will be rewarded grade wise. He really takes an effort to engage with his students and is very passionate about economics. Although the class is a lot of work, I looked forward to going to his class even on Friday mornings.
Dr. Craft was incredible at teaching micro. The workload made sense and was encouraging to learn the material. He is super intelligent, but still manages to explain things in a way students can understand. HOWEVER, his FYS has far too much work, and he is a harsh essay grader and doesn't help to improve your writing.
He's just so passionate about economics. Teaches in a unique way that engages students, often doing social experiments to actually prove the theories from the book. Love his personal anecdotes, especially about his farm. Put in the effort and you will do good. He gets a bad rep because of the work load but if you like Econ, Dr Craft is the man!
Amazing professor. Motivating and makes economics fun and interesting.
Average at explaining the material but the amount of online homework he assigns can get overwhelming in addition to your weekly readings.
Craft is a good teacher. You need to show up to class on time everyday and do the readings, but the workload is not bad. The lectures and handouts are very interesting and relate to real life. Tests are challenging but he gives you ample practice problems and you can go ask him questions. Would recommend him for Econ 101.
Craft is a good teacher who knows a lot about what he's teaching. If you're good at econ, I'd recommend him. But, if you're like me and don't like it as much, its a lot of work. There are 4 question in class quizzes daily and the tests are hard, but if you really read the book you should be alright.
If you like Econ, then this class won't be bad. Dr. Craft is very knowledgeable and excited about Econ. There is a lot of out of class work and reading especially if you're in his online lecture sections. Overall, if you do your work and come to class prepared then the class and tests won't be bad.
Pr. Craft is a good teacher who is very passionate about Econ. There is a lot of homework outside of class, with readings, Problem sets, and online quizzes. He explains all the material and goes over assessments in a clear manner. It is a difficult class, but if you put in the work, students can do well.
Not recommended if you don't want to work hard for your grades. You learn a lot in this class! Dr. Craft can be intimidating at times but don't be afraid to ask questions. He is more than willing to help you outside the class. Talk to him if you feel lost. Don't overload yourself. Do readings, onlineLecs then handouts. See marks % in syllabus
Knows what he's talking about.
Worth the work
It's a struggle
A TOUGH class
Highly recommended
Makes you work for it.
Great guy and really accessible for help
Craft is a really smart professor, and he explains economics in a really understandable manner. He is very passionate about the subject and that reflects in the way he teaches. Sure, he gives a lot of homework, but if you do it, pay attention in class and make good notes, you will do well.
Nice and funny guy but a tough class to take. You have a quiz every single day based on the online lectures(about an hour) that you are required to watch for hw. One of the most tedious and time consuming classes.
Be prepared to put in work. Weekly homework quizzes, daily quizzes in class, and lots of reading, and the midterms are long. However, you will leave the class fully understanding micro if you put the work in. Dr. Craft is an excellent teacher and is very organized. He makes class engaging & justifies the method to the madness with an easy Final.
He's good but a lot of work
Work, Work, Work
Mad Genius Species
Have a good break before the semester begins
Do the assigned reading
Inspiring
Amazing personality
Dr. Craft did a fantastic job with ECON101. He made it enjoyable and I came away with a thorough understanding of all course material, always feeling prepared. There were many assignments which made no assignment feel crushing if one did not do well. He graded clearly. He brought energy to every class even when students weren't as energized. 10/10.
textbook readings & online lectures due for every class, cold calls on you. Class waste of time bc he already attempted to teach online, but you have to go bc daily quizzes. would have learned more teaching myself the course during his class hours than him. he is so rude, especially if you don't know an answer. & has more units than other teacher
Dr. Craft is a brilliant professor. His passion for Microeconomics shines through in everything he does. For each class, we had to read the textbook assignment and watch online lectures before each class. There was also a daily quiz every class to make sure you keep up with the readings. I definitely invested the suggested 14 hours per week!
Craft is amazing. He is hilarious and so passionate about both economics and Norwegian folk. His singing is impeccable. He teaches clearly. Class is never boring he really gets us involved. Best bschool Professor no cap.
Dr. Craft is definitely a literal genius. You will understand ECON after this class, as 7-8 of his mentors won the Nobel Prize in ECON. You have to put in the work, but he will respect you for it. His understanding of the material is seemingly infinite, and his name even pops up in the text. You cant get behind, and you cant slack. Work: worth it
You will work hard and never regret it. Best professor I have ever had. Inspirational and has committed his life to economics.
You have to watch online lectures as well as other readings outside of class. Not too bad, short multiple-choice daily quizzes keep you reviewing material. Craft does cold calls in class (and I am a very shy student) but it is more to keep you paying attention than to be absolutely correct.
Dr. Craft is extremely knowledgeable and is an awesome professor. The class itself will be difficult if you don't put in any effort. There are readings and online lectures before every class, but I never did the readings and I was perfectly fine. The online lectures are what's important.
You'll run circles around the greatest economists of our time if you put in the work. Craft 2024!
Craft is great. As long as you watch the online lectures before each class and make sure to do the graphs along with him (the textbook readings are for the most part unnecessary), the class isn't difficult at all and you'll learn a lot.
Professor Craft was a good professor. He cares about his students and was always around to talk on zoom during office hours, before and after class. There will be a lot of reading and lectures outside of class where you will come to class and work on problems. He cold-calls and there is a quiz at the beginning of every class so make sure you go.
Really did not enjoy his class. Flipped class style of online lectures mixed with textbook readings feel unnecessary and redundant at times. Very stringent time restrictions of weekly quizzes and exams, which are a struggle and negatively effect grades. Cold calls every class and if you get the wrong answer or don't know it you feel judged by him.
Dr. Craft clearly knows what he's talking about during class, but it's not always easy to learn. He calls on students randomly in class and asks questions. If you get the question wrong, he gets angry. He assigns lots of homework, and if you fall behind for even a day, you're screwed. Stay on top of the reading, the lectures, and the quizzes. GL.
Craft is not the best option for econ101. He calls on students randomly and if you get the question wrong he gets mad at the class for not paying attention. He is a smart person who knows his stuff but he is tough to understand. Steer clear of Dr. Craft if possible
He cold calls throughout classes, but is not encouraging if you don't know the answer. Most weeks you'll have a problem set, a chapter quiz, and a short quiz at the start of each class. Flipped classroom so there is a big time commitment to reading and watching lectures. Grades harshly and doesn't create a comfortable atmosphere for questions.
Craft is not as bad as some of the ratings suggest. He does cold call but when he doesn't very few people participate; however, he needs to work on creating an environment that doesn't make students feel stupid (he should learn from Mehkari). work is a lot but not insane. Recorded lectures were fun but normal class was pointless and ineffective.
Craft is very knowledgable on the subject but he expects everyone to be so too. There are short daily quizzes and cold calls during class. If you've been exposed to the subject before and are ready for a challenge, go ahead and take him. If not, this class would be really hard. He pretty much makes videos explaining the concepts so no need to read
very bad teacher
Difficult
Dr. Craft is not the best Econ 101 teacher. He cold calls, and if you get the answer incorrect he is not sympathetic. The class is very fast-paced, and he is a pretty tough grader. The class is a flipped classroom style, so the reading and lectures for HW are time-consuming. He gives out daily quizzes, 3 tests, problem sets, and at-home quizzes.
Dr. Craft is extremely passionate about economics and he put in effort to inspire his students about it. He can be a little tough, but also funny at times. The most challenging thing is having to do a short quiz at the beginning of every class, but it does help with remembering all the material in class.
This teacher SUCKS. There are quizzes everyday at the start of class, so you can not skip. There is a lot of work like numerous online quizzes and problem sets. The tests are nearly impossible. Craft is impossible, do no take him!
If you value your gpa and your life outside of this class, do not take Craft. Biggest mistake of my life. Please do yourself a favor and do not take this teacher. He has a quiz everyday in class, and his grading is unbelievable. Turning in a problem set is like a shot in the dark because you never know how its gonna turn out with this guy.
Passionate teacher and knows what he is talking about. Is very willing to help you outside of class but as other reviews have said there is A LOT of homework. Problem sets are a bit vague Daily quizzes are usually whatever but sometimes there are random tidbits of info that makes you feel cheated out of a score. Tests can be rough because of time.
Craft provides diverse information/ classwork & doesn't often just sit & lecture you. The class is hard & he is very honest about him pushing students to be better, but he is always available to help. He's a great teacher, but the class isn't an easy A. Use Pearson to study!! It's a great resource to track progress. Ask questions & participate.
a very passionate, helpful and organized professor if you are willing to ask him questions about the course work. clear instructions about the questions you ask and never judge you because of the questions you ask. Always respect students even when they give wrong answers to his questions during class. But a tough grader with lots of hw.
Dr. Craft is very knowledge and passionate about what he teaches. While he does cold call in class, but he makes class interesting. He's not the easiest; however, if you want a good foundation in Econ, take Craft.
Craft is a good teacher and clearly knowledgeable. He requires you to purchase the online textbook + graded quiz materials (open notes). ECON101 is FLIPPED CLASSROOM STYLE which means you watch the online lectures before you come to class and then work problems in class. There's a lot of work involved, but I feel that I have a good ECON foundation.
Expect an hour of homework after each class, daily quizzes, weekly quizzes and cold calls. Take fantastic notes on his recorded lectures and read or you will be embarrassed or do poorly. Lot of work, but a fantastic teacher and you will learn a lot in the class, and actually know it for the future. Worth the work.
Craft was fine- he does flipped classroom which may not be for everyone. He is very nice and approachable but is not very good at explaining. He lectures like we've done this before and a lot of the learning is done outside of class.
I have simply never been more depressed in my entire life. I often wake up in the middle of the night crying about his class in a panic and cold sweat. Taking this class is like waking up every day with an even worse haircut than the day before. There are a few positives, though: I have learned the importance of and found a new love for therapy.
Great professor! Don't be scared of the flipped classroom style. He always ends up reviewing and solidifying homework learning. As long as you do the readings and watch his online lectures, as well as participate in class, the class will not be bad at all. I love how much he gets into the discussion and has a clear passion for teaching the class.
Do not take Craft unless you are passionate about economics. He is not afraid to make you feel stupid if you get questions wrong in class. Be prepared for daily quizzes, lots of homework, and cold calls.
Class was enjoyable. Still challenging even for someone who took micro before. Daily quizzes, flipped classroom, and cold calls are all elements of his class but not worth stressing over. Most assignments are curved at least a little. He is very knowledgeable about econ and always open to discussing economics. Overall good class, good professor.
Overall, Craft was a tough professor. His lectures were lengthy and expect hours of homework every night. He is a great guy, and approachable, but if you care for your GPA stay away.
The class was somewhat difficult for a 100-level course, but it was worthwhile. I got more out of the class than I expected, and it gave me a new appreciation for a field I knew very little about. If you do the readings and pay attention in class you'll do fine. He makes it pretty clear what you do and don't need to know.
Difficult professor, you will learn a lot in his class but much more work than the other sections. He does online lectures that you will need to watch before short quizzes in every class. Quizzes you can take at home but are pretty hard.
This is the review for Dr. Craft. Professor is strict and not always friendly to his students. Is there's anything you don't remember about class materials, he will mock you. Racist is always brought up in class since this class focuses on equality. Look at the first word of each sentence; that's all I want to say.
You probably will not get an A in this course. There's a daily quiz every day which can be very challenging. The class is unnecessarily tedious and it makes micro way more challenging than it needs to be. There is no point in actually attending class in my opinion because everything is on lectures but you have to because of the daily quizzes.
Heavy on the homework but you learn a lot. Nice professor, wants you to succeed. You will get into a rhythm with the assignments pretty fast as its on a predictable schedule. Put in the time and you will be fine.
He does give extra credit but in my case it made little difference. MyLab quizzes were very important and he makes the questions with simple concepts rather hard
He has an unconventional way of teaching: learn all material outside of class then do problems and review in class. He had a good understanding of the material but layout of class threw it off.
very picky grader. takes points off of free-response questions unfairly. For example, will take points off if you don't include some very specific detail that he has in mind even if the question doesn't ask for that response. you have to read his mind to get full points on free-response. You have to study like crazy for exams to do well
Loved Dr. Craft. Such a great and engaging professor. Knew a lot and was very passionate about economics. Sort of tough but as long as you do the readings and are engaged in class and know how to study you should be okay!
Worst professor ever. Never take his class.
Good teacher with good online lectures that are way better than reading the textbook. At home quizzes are good grade boosts. Attendance is mandatory by required quizzes that are small portion of overall grade. If you want to major in Econ this is the guy.
Very well-taught and very thought provoking class that is worthwhile for Econ elective credit. Reading is pretty light.
People are dramatic craft is a good professor who really cares about his students. Micro is a tough class but a B or B+ is completely attainable, it is tough to get an A in though. I would recommend this class to most students however if you have trouble with timed assignments avoid taking craft.
While Dr. Craft does assign a lot of homework, it really helped solidify the material for the tests. He is a really nice guy who cares about his students, and he would always talk about his farm in Iowa.
Professor Craft's class is tough but doable. The daily quizzes can be challenging, and the grading can be picky, but attending lectures and using resources like Unstuck study for study prep can help you succeed. Put in the effort and you'll learn a lot.
The worst professor at this school. He lectures incessantly and it is a struggle to pay attention or avoid falling asleep. Overly difficult course for Econ 101 and a tough grader who assigns numerous and difficult assignments of which provide little relavence.
Dr. Craft gets a bad reputation. But I think he'a a very good teacher. I'm not a big of the flipped classroom style so it can be a lot of work. However, he will put the time in to meet with you. Definitely take his class if you want to actually learn Econ. It is definitely a lot of work but you can still get a good grade.
It is a tough class but your basics are very strong. He also cares about the real life applications of economics and his extra readings were really important.
Dr. Craft does minimal work, leaving students to handle notes and daily quizzes based on lengthy videos in a flipped classroom. He cold calls to embarrassment, and shows little interest in students. Class feels like focused on survival with weekly quizzes and multiple problem sets. Reaching out is met with impertinence. He ruins GPAs.
This class is tough and demands a lot of self-discipline. The flipped classroom makes learning difficult, so relying on the textbook is key. The workload is heavy with daily quizzes, specific problem sets, and tough exams. Grading is strict, so be ready to work hard for a decent grade.
Dr. Craft gives a lot of homework, but doing it all will prepare you well for the weekly quizzes (open note online), and the exams. He does cold calls so prepare a bit. He makes lectures interesting and sometimes does class activities that are a lot of fun. If you do the work and show up to class, you will be fine.
Dr. Craft is definitely the hardest professor I have had. The class is a flipped classroom with 2 hours of homework on average and weekly quizzes, problem sets, & 2 midterms and a final. Do the readings because he cold calls. I've never been so stressed for a class. He is caring but only take him if you are good at math/econ. Would not recommend.
I rlly enjoyed Dr. Craft. He is a great, vry smart professor. The class is a lot of work, but if you put in the time, you'll learn a TON of econ. He outlines what will be on the exams very clearly, and there are many practice problems available. There are many grades in the course, so your exams aren't everything. He makes lectures fun/interesting
His tests are very do-able and almost identical to the practice tests. The hardest part of the course is the problem sets hw. Not hard to get an A in this class if you show up willing to learn - just take easier classes with it that semester and it will not be too crazy.
Craft is a good professor. If you do the work you will do well on everything. He gives a lot of work, but is a great guy and knows what he is talking about. Would recommend over other "easy" econ profs.
Do not take this class if you are not an econ/business major and you value your happiness
IGNORE the bad reviews. Craft is a really great professor who cares about his students, and the class is not hard if you pay attention. He is hilarious and makes the classes fun and engaging with games and Kahoot. The tests are identical to the practice tests. The people complaining put zero effort in and wonder why they don't get the content
Gives a lot of homework and cold-calls, so make sure you do the readings. Multiple choice for tests is identical to the provided practice problems, although he is very specific about the open-ended section. Lectures are very entertaining and overall a solid professor if you want a good grounding in microeconomics.
Erik Craft is a good professor if you are looking to go into economics. If you're taking this class for credit, choose another one. His Micro curriculum differs from that of other professors, which results in Craft students earning higher grades and having an easier, more enjoyable semester. Also his curve system is awful
Dr. Craft is a very nice professor who has high standards. He expects a lot from his students, but you will do well if you follow his instructions. He is very helpful, responds to emails in a timely manner and will explain concepts in office hours if you are unsure. Yes, it is a hard class, but he wants you to succeed! You learn a lot!! Recommend!
This is a very difficult class; however, if you put the time into it and genuinely try to succeed, it is very possible. He has a flipped classroom, which means basically all of your learning will be done through online lectures and textbook reading, and then will be reinforced in class. Other than that, he is a great professor.
Will teach you so much, but way more work than any other micro teacher. very clear on what he wants you to know for the tests. If you are willing to work a lot, it's worth it; if you have not taken econ in high school and just need to pass, not worth it for the work.
He will get you to understand econ, whether you want to or not. Daily quizzes on reverse classroom online lectures. Practice problems and more lectures during class. Will cold call during class, but little pressure. Tests and exams were 100% manageable. He will curve your final grade if you show improvement too. Great person and can really teach.
