He has TONS of power points with decorative graphs and data of which confuses me more than helps. The entire class is on the power point...it get's old. The times that we do have "group/class" work, I learn more and he does those periodically. He's a nice guy and grades fairly. He's just difficult.

I came into the class Skeptical, but Mr. Dean has totally changed my mind about Economics. His powerpoints can sometimes get a bit tedious, but he always explains them very well, and answers questions with incredible accuracy. Sometimes the class can go off topic, but it is almost always in the interest of learning.

Mr.Dean is a young teacher so he is more flexable. When someone would ask a dumb question in class he wouldn't make that person feel like an idiot and would actually interpret their question so it would clarify the topic without wasting a whole bunch of time. He also gives you a chance to make up the test questions you got wrong for a better grade.

Even though I got an A in this class, I didn't like it. I enjoy communicating with my professors, but he rarely reply to my emails. Kind of felt he barely taught the class. Most professors with full online classes would at least record their own videos, but he just posted YouTube videos. Feels like he barely put any work into the content.

Erik does a great job teaching Macroeconomics in my opinion. His course page is very organized and he is quite responsive to emails. His textbook is thorough and his lecture videos are great. Quizzes are untimed and unlimited attempts. Exams are primarily made up of quiz questions and have two attempts. As long as you do the work, it's an easy A.

This class allows you to learn at your own pace. The in-person lectures are helpful if you ever get stuck, but aren't required by any means. 10/10 would take again.

Dean is amazing! He's really flexible with late work and structures the class in a way that you can work at your own pace. However, there's a LOT of content including reading, slideshows, recorded lectures, and linked videos. Quizzes make for good practice and he is very good at explaining content. Just be sure to stay motivated and on top of work.

There's a lot of reading but you can honestly just watch the lectures and skip the textbook. Dean explains things very clearly and he's knowledgable. Very warm and open to questions. Quizzes are open note/open book and you get unlimited attempts since he values learning. Midterm and final are primarily based on quiz questions and are open book too!

Dean is a great professor. Economics is hard and he gets it. Grading is extremely clear cut and forgiving. He wants you to actually learn the material so you get unlimited attempts on the quizzes. Pantheroo system also ensures for a 15% participation aspect of the final grade. Do the work and you'll earn the grade you want. No doubt about it.

Honestly my favorite professor at PCC to date. We had 2 attempts on both midterms and the final. The only downside is that when you take it the second time, it's the average score of both that counts. Other then that, all quizzes were good to take up to the midterm and you have unlimited attempts to get full points. Highly Recommend

Erik Dean inspired me to major in economics. His heterodox approach provides his students a perfect introductory understanding of the concept and inspires critical thinking. There is a lot of reading combined with slides and lectures but it is all useful. if you have to take econ, he is your man.

The best teacher to take any economics class with! He advocates for his students and emphasizes genuine learning above assigning grades. Quizzes are unlimited attempts and exams have two (averaged) attempts but as long as you do the homework, you will do just fine. Be sure to keep up with reading and do the discussion board for pantheroos!

Without a doubt the best option to take ANY economics class with. He is so invested in the field that it's an honor to learn from him. Emphasizes genuine learning over grades. The class has a lot of information but it's super easy to succeed. Unlimited attempts on quizzes, pass/fail discussion boards, and open book exams with same quiz questions.

I was not a fan of Erik. The textbook we used was co-written by him and it was very hard for me to understand. I found that he was not super accessible outside of class and I really struggled. I would recommend him if you can handle learning on your own and don't need any extra support.

The best economics professor at all of PCC. No comparison really. He makes everything so easy to understand and gives plenty of opportunities to make mistakes and still not hurt your grade. This is an instructor who really guides the learning process.

I took EC201 this term and found the class very helpful and easy. The professor is laid-back, accepts late work, and is very understanding. You don't lose points for late submissions. The homework is pretty straightforward, and you have about two quizzes a week along with a discussion post. I would take this class again! Awesome professor!

Others have said this already, but I will restate that Erik is by far the best professor to take Econ with. He is laid back and accepts late work. Attendance is not mandatory. At the same time, he clearly cares about the course material and his lectures, and he has done his best to ensure that everyone is staying on track and learning well.

I heavily recommend taking Dean for Macro or Micro econ. He believes in the Heterodox approach to economics but also is fair in providing the orthodox perspective. I enjoyed Dean's lectures so much that I immediately signed up to take him for Micro econ next quarter. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Dean was amazing for microeconomics. My class was half online and half lecture and while the reading was dense at times for the subject material, Dean recapped it, making it make sense. His explanations were clear, engaging, and incredibly productive for understanding the concepts. Great class, great subject, and a great teacher. I would recommend.
