Fetler is one of the greatest instructors I have had (even better than the majority of the "world renowned" professors I have had at UC Berkeley). He is fair, clear, kind, and enthusiastic. He wants his students to do well and encourages class participation. Like any expository writing course, it is difficult. Do yourself a favor and choose Fetler!

He helps students who are struggling because he honestly does care about your final grade. You do have to do your part and if you do then he will do his part in helping you. Really tough throughout the whole class. Tough grader, but he will show you what you need to improve on to get a better grade. Hes very helpful and improved my writing tremendously.

Pushes you to do better on essays, inks up your papers with red so much but its all feedback which is REALLY helpful. Attendance is a must, lectures a lot, very blunt about what he wants. In my opinion, he's the reason I learned to write essays and improve on them. If you're willing to do all the essays & on time, I would recommend.

As a person that is diagnosed with anxiety I was nervous about returning to school. Mr. Fetler is a great teacher. If you have a question he will do his best to answer it in a way that you can understand. His assignments are short, he adds humor, and gives you the opportunity to make up late assignments. Be committed and you should do very well

He's hot and once you understand his grading style you'll get an A. Clear, concise assignments. It leans more towards a critical thinking class but either way I'd take him again :) Too bad he doesn't teach ENG 2A.

Professor Eric Feltler is an amazing, and inspirational teacher. I've learned many things, and have gained a lot of confidence in myself. The manner in which he teaches is fantastic. He made class, and the assignments challenging. He also provided support, feedback and humor. I am taking his 1A class in fall. If given the chance take his class!!!

in a nutshell, if you want to learn English and not just kill time while in College. This dude is Awwwwwwsooommm! I absolutely loved him in my English 1A in Spring 15, but I had to drop the course in the midst due to personal problems, now I am feeling really bad. But anyways THUMBS UP to Fetler.

Prof. Fetler is an amazing instructor. He gives good lectures and makes going to class worth while. You are required to type a lot of 1-page papers, but the most you write is 2-3 tops the whole semester. Make sure to participate and you'll be on his good side.

Pretty easy but you have to go to class, skipping is not a good idea, you will not pass the class.

This guy rocks. Had him for 111 and 1A. Wish he was full time at MPC and that he taught English 2. I am going to miss this man after this semester. Gives good feedback, actually teaches you how to write well and how to use critical thinking. I recommend him to everyone. He's "smart funny" and loves UCLA. Two thumbs up.

Professor Fetler is AWESOME!! What he assigns is good stuff, it's not meaningless busywork. It's an easy class, all you do is show up, participate, and do your work. I've grown a lot in my writing and thinking from taking his class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! He's also funny and great all around. Really smart guy and is definitely respected.

Attendance is a huge part of your grade. Some directions can be unclear but if you ask for clarification he will willingly give it to you. He believes that it is better to have a good paper turned in late than an alright paper turned in on time. The longest paper you will write is 4-6 pages. Throughout the semester you write many one or two pagers.

Overall, great guy. He's a young guy, full of life, excited to teach. Just make sure you read the assigned homework and participate in class discussions. Definitely recommend if you plan on transferring.

This is an overall easy class but you do need to put the work in to get a good grade. If you slack off you will get a C or a D in this class.

Fetler is an AMAZING teacher. He gives a reasonable work load, but you do have to stay on top of it to do well. Participation matters. He assigns a lot of papers, but most of them are one pagers. He gives honest and critical feedback, and is always more than willing to answer questions. Don't slack off, and you'll do just fine.

I took this 6 week class in the summer. Mr. Fetler is a good lecturer and teacher. I learned a lot. Using Canvass, he provided detailed instructions of exactly what our homework was and what he was looking for. There were lots of study guides that I found quite helpful.

Mr. Fetler makes his expectations EXPLICITLY clear on the first day of class. If you follow his instructions, turn in your work, show up to class on time, participate, and don't make b.s. excuses (he'll rightfully call you out) you will pass. Apply what he says to your essays and you'll do well and become a better writer and critical thinker.

Mr. Fetler was extremely clear about what he expected from his students. He cares about you if you care about yourself. If you are ever unsure about anything in his class, you can talk to him afterwards and he will make sure you understand. Mr. Fetler will teach you more than English. His only expectation is that his students want to learn.

I took the summer class; It was only 17 days long. 17 days filled with a ton of writing. Fetler actually grades and critiques the essays. And you will do well to pay attention to his critiques because he will find flaws and holes if you have them. overall, it was a great class and I would take one of his classes again.

Mr. Fetler is a very passionate & detail oriented teacher. In the beginning of the semester, every student is given a calendar with all the assignments due throughout the course. There are a lot of good things about Mr. Fetler. He is very good at giving amazing feedback on assignments. His work is not the easiest but definitely informational and will help you in the future. He's a very funny, cool, yet professional person. If you have the opportunity to take his class, you should. You won't regret it!

I wouldn't say this class was the hardest thing ever but he does really make you work for it. I just felt like there were too many assignments assigned at once every week. With online learning especially I felt like he could've handled it better. He's very strict with grading so make sure you read the directions carefully. Overall he's a nice guy.

I took Fetlers class my first semester at MPC and I loved it. He is definitely a real character and enjoys what he does, which makes his class that much more enjoyable. 100% worth taking. He is my go-to recommendation for an ENGL1A professor at MPC. Wish he taught ENGL2!

Mr. Fetler pushes you to do better as opposed to just giving a bare minimum. He takes English serious; especially when you will need it in so many aspects of life. I got a B in this class, but that was me missing 2 specific papers. Lecture heavy but lots of examples and will answer questions on the fly. I appreciated that. Fantastic feedback with papers, outlines, and any work you submit. He drums the information in so you can't say you didn't know unless you weren't paying attention. Very caring!

I took his class a couple semesters back and I still think about how great the class was. Professor Fetler is great at keeping the class engaged and has a very effective teaching style. There is quite a bit of writing but you are given much direction and help if you ask for it. Overall, I would highly recommend any course with this instructor.

Amazing Lectures

This class is a great start for beginner and intermediate level writing. Some of the things he stresses are proofreading and proofreading. Essays are usually assigned every three to four weeks, and he gives great feedback on papers. He gives minimal amounts of assignments, and he makes the class both interesting and fun.

Loved Fetler. His lectures were exactly what you needed to know for the upcoming assignments and essays. Lowkey a lot of writing but it was easy and he gives great and CLEAR feedback. And he is very understanding if you just talk to him. Just take him you won't regret it. It's an easy class and still learn at a good pace.

Mr. Fetler is one of the best professors I could take for spring 2023. He taught me how to think logically, using clear and specific evidence that is backed up by reason and logic. He also taught me about persuasion and manipulation in writing, along with logical fallacies, and how to notice them with the movie "Thank You for Smoking".

Great for an english class. He's very passionate, so if you're looking to sit back, whisper or give half-*ss answers he is not for you (and will call you out). Don't ever go on your phone. You will get humiliated. Reasonable essays every 2 weeks-ish. All he asks is that you try. He comes off a little crazy but it keeps you awake and engaged.

There are 4 main essays and one final paper throughout the semester. They range from 3-5 pages long. Mr.Fetler is an amazing teacher who cares for students success. You learn how to notice logical fallacies, write proper essay drafts, and more. He is very responsive with emails. To pass, you have to follow instructions and show that you care.

I really enjoyed Mr.Fetlers class because although pages were not very long, I learned so much. Because of his class I learned to find the importance of writing. The final paper is 5 pages long, and the prompt will be what has more votes. He makes you search up prompts, and he writes them on the board. In the end, everyone votes for a prompt.

I would 100,000% take this class again! At first, it may seem like Mr. Fetler is really strict, but he's just super passionate about teaching English. Even if you just need to take the class for prerequisites and already consider yourself a writing expert, I 100% guarantee that you will be a much better writer at the end of the class.
