Dr. Gergus is a very intelligent instructor, he covers a lot of material , however he is great at helping you when you have trouble. I like him alot

DR G is the best teacher I have ever had. This guy means business but will help you WHENEVER you need it . Tons of information make sure you study and keep track of what he writes on the board all tests are absed on that. Awesome sense of humor. I Love this GUY!Thanks DR G.!

Dr. Gergus is a very smart man however he can easily confuse you, but he will take the time to help you through stuff and even push test back if he doesn't thinkt he class is prepared. But the test are incredibly hard and not all that much like the study guide.

I took this class during the shortened summer semester. It was tough but if you put the time into it, you will have no problems. Dr. Gergus was always willing to answer any questions. He gave some extra credit points during the course. He makes you "earn" your grade which isn't a bad thing. Pay attention & go to the labs & you'll do just fine!

Gergus is a great teacher.I do agree he is disorganized @ times.But, as for teaching, he is willing to teach if you are willing to learn.He trys his best to answer all questions.He's extremely helpful in lab.If you have a question, just ask.He has a sense of humor.You MUST pay attention & read your text.Tests can get technical.You'll learn from him

Dr. Gergus will make you work, but he is entertaining, at least. He quizzes in lab, so know the material! A bit disorganized. If you take notes carefully, this will help a lot.

Erik really cared about his students and was always there to help when needed. His exams were not easy but the lab quizzes were easy points to keep my grade high. The textbook was used to study and do homework, which I found helpful for exams. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities so use them when you can because Biology is not easy.

Dr. Gergus is VERY helpful and gets excited about teaching his students. He's a little disorganized, but his exams are straight forward with no trickery. Study!

Very passionate and knowledgeable about biology, connects subject to current issues, sometimes leading him to go off the subject at hand. Said textbook was not required, but seemed to get a lot of info out of it. I did fine with just borrowing the libraries copy for a few hrs. He is willing to help and wants to see you succeed. I love Dr. Gergus. He can be very long winded sometimes with his answer, but he is very helpful. He's not very good with email, but if you go to his office, he is very helpful. He is funny and nice. I even have his as a facebook friend. He loves science, which he can tell by his lectures. He gives out extra credit, which helps.

Dr. Gergus is a great professor. He is very helpful. He loves the material he teaches so much, that he doesn't stop talking during the whole lecture time. He teaches very well and everything that is on the test is on his outlines. Lecture can get kind of boring if you are not into animal diversity, which is why I think others have a hard time with the course. He answers questions if you don't understand. Just remember stay focused in lecture and lab and you should do fine.

Dr. Gergus is a truly gifted Professor. His zeal for biology is infectious. He actually makes the lectures and labs fun and easy learn. He'll go out of his way to make sure you understand the material especially if you go to him for help. I'm not sure how he does it but he always makes you feel like an old friend.

His class was challenging to me. However, he is the best professor you can take this class with. He answers all your emails and questions.

What can I say about this guy? First off he's outgoing, very optimistic. He's full of energy so he goes off on little tangents, but what teacher doesn't. Some of the material is just flat out boring and the rest can be pretty intriguing. Tests are pretty challenging if you don't put forth the right amount of study time in. Overall great professor.

Super enthusiastic about bio, you can tell the guy loves it and he knows his stuff. Loves engaging with students and answering their questions. Office hours are set and he is available then. Bit slow to grade papers but the guy teaches like 300 kids, can't be blamed.

Nice teacher but hard class. I took the summer course and it seemed like he was cramming to many assignments in. The lab practicals were hard and he was a really slow grader because of the amount of work he assigned. Overall he is a nice person but I wouldn't recommend him for a summer course.

He's a great teacher! He uses powerpoint so if you don't like them don't take the class. Also the lecture tests are extremely hard but if you pay attention to the powerpoint and do the mastering biology assignments you should get a good grade. There's a lot of material to cover in this class but if you need help he offers office hrs for extra study

Dr. Gergus is a great teacher. He grades tough, but that is because you, the student, should really learn the concept and not just haphazardly skim through the material, which SO many students are used to. He is very accessible, a really nice guy. My only "but" is that it takes him a long time to grade papers. Practicals are hard, so take pics!

Gergus is among my favorite teachers at GCC. He knows his material & is there if you need help. If a student is struggling in his class, it is because they didn't go speak to him. He is honest about what he expects from the class & has study sessions before tests. His mastering biology assignments are a pain, but he does have extra credit (30pts).

Although he uses Power Points, you will need to take additional notes. Took him for previous classes and he was very spacey this time around. Took months to grade papers and gave random quizzes due less than 24 hours before class. If you are taking other courses, expect to put a lot of work into Biology.

Dr. Gergus is AMAZING. He really goes out of his way to help you succeed as long as you talk to him. He always has new dry erase markers which is nice if you sit in the back of the class. Dr Gergus is an amazing professor. His tests are tough, but he makes his expectations very clear and gives opportunities for extra credit. If a student is failing his class, it is because they didn't take the time to talk to him during office hours, because he is always eager to help.

Whenever help was needed or asked for by anyone he was always there to help and answer questions. Really seems passionate about the classes he teaches and his major. Enjoyed talking with him about herpetology a few times after class. Many of the students seemed to like and respect him.

Great teacher. I took Bio 182 in the summer session so it was a month long course. As long as you pay attention in the lecture he repeats material making sure you know it; hammering concepts into the brain by reinforcement with real world examples.

A great prof. Mastering biology assignments are long 1hr each, about 18 homework, 18 extra credit, lab tests are fill in blank mostly, taxons are multi-choice, lecture test is 13 essay. Try recording lecture and listening again while reviewing ppt, and study guide. I took in summer...5 wksvery demanding, Definitely there for you.

Dr. Gergus is one of the best professors on campus. He is very kind and friendly and loves what he does. He explains everything during lecture in detail with illustrations and real life examples to help you understand. Definitely sign up for him if you need Bio classes!

Mr. Gergus is by far one of my favorite professors. He is passionate about what he teaches, and the success of his students is extremely important to him. If he is going too fast for you, LET HIM KNOW... He cares and is more than willing to help. My best advice is to read the chapter(s)BEFORE attending the lecture!

He is a good professor. the class is hard and you have to study a lot to pass it.

He really is a great prof. The material itself is VERY hard, but Gergus does everything he can to make sure his students pass. He draws on the board with different colored markers, passes out fill-in notes, and has study guides available for every test. He's also funny, and some of the jokes he makes out material will help you remember facts.

Biofav subject in HS. If you don't ENJOY learning bio (humans/plants), the class will be difficult. Best advice: attend & pay attention every lecture. Follow along on the board. Ask ?'s if confused; he will answer them. Study, study for lecture exams! Study notes day by day.// Attend LABS. When you get a prelab, do it ASAP & study before lab quiz.

Dr. Gergus was a wonderful biology professor. He's very passionate about the subject and makes the class interesting. He's there to help you, and he wants you to succeed. If you have trouble, he will understand and work with you to fix the problem. However, make sure to study. If you need clarification, he'll give you a clear answer.

Gives study guides, pre-labs, crossword puzzles (not for grading), and other stuff to help you understand more about the material. Bio is not an easy subject so expect a lot of reading and homework. However, Dr. Gergus is an amazing prof. Very passionate teacher and really know what he was talking about. He cares about his students. Take his class.

This class is lecture with a 3 hour lab. Plan on staying all 3 hours (4lab) Mastering Bio4 every chap. Your given different ways to learn these concepts which r broken down to 5 secs. 12 lab exams (lowest 1 dropped) 5 lecture exams) Some chap 3 point chap. quizzes. Ex Credit opp do the self tests Hes so nice Brilliant yet humble GERGUS IS AWESOME!

He's very enthusiastic to a teach. And sometimes he does get a little side tracked but overall he gives you ample information from notes and handouts to pass his class. Just make sure you do your Mastering Biology otherwise you'll go from an A to a B. He's a fun and engaging teacher and tries his best to ensure everyone understands.

He is a great teacher. This class is a lot of work, but what biology class isn't? He can go pretty fast in lectures just because he is excited about the subject. I encourage people to not ask too many questions in class (lectures) as he can go too long, use other resources (office hours, book, internet, lab time, etc). Write everything he says.

Loved his class! First professor I actually enjoyed listening to! He made lectures fun, although labs did get a little boring. Overall, I would really recommend you to take his class! Professor Erik is amazing. He is always there for students. He is so helpful and makes lecture and lab so fun. He gives extra credits and also his exams are easy like the study guide. Also, the lab practicals are easy too. I recommend him for anyone who wants to take Bio182.

With all honesty.... Dr. Gergus is probably the BEST biology professor on campus. He is inspirational (beyond belief). Biology is his passion and it definitely rubs off on the whole class the moment you step foot in it. His lectures are interesting, he is always smiling and happy and overall a great guy! I am so grateful to have had Dr.G !!

AMAZING PROFESSOR. I thought the subject would be boring but it was eye opening. Really approachable and smart, could easily sit down and talk hours with him about science. Take the exams seriously and don't slack off and you should do fine. P.S gets a lil behind on grading

Dr. Gergus is the best bio prof. at GCC. Gets a little behind in grading but makes up for it with a real enthusiasm for the subject and science in general. I recommend him to anyone that is not a slacker because although he is nice and all that he does make you earn your grade(although he is lenient with due dates, test reschedules etc.)Take him!

Dr. Gergus is not the easiest but this class is phenomenal. It is possible to get an A; do the study guides because he does lots of short answer questions on exams. He is such a nerd when it comes to biology but he makes it fun and interesting. The things he teaches you will help you if you take further biology classes.

This teacher is amazing if you work hard, and show up to class you will pass, there is alot of studying for lab and lecture use your time wisely, the test are hard but if you need help its available. I hated biology at first but once I took this class with mr gergus I really enjoyed biology, and hes very smart at this subject.

Gergus cares about his students; he once shared after someone joked "Are you disappointed to us?" when he handed out exam scores once that he legit felt really bad about giving out bad grades to students. He's pretty understanding that his students have lives outside class. The hw can get tedious though, esp if you do summer session like I did.

He is very intelligent and knows a lot about biology. It does take him awhile to get through a chapter. Our tests were always pushed back by a week. He is easy to talk to and wants to make sure everyone understands! He is pretty funny too. He keeps class interesting. Would take him again! Buy the book. Takes awhile to grade.

He loves the subject, and it's hard not to fall in love too just watching his enthusiasm, but ecology is a difficult class when it's not your major. Mr. Gergus is such a passionate and enthusiastic professor. Although very lecture heavy, he doesn't read slides word for word and often includes videos to watch & further solidify certain concepts. Always willing to help outside of class and listen to concerns/ answer questions. Very hands on in lab and makes sure each student is not left behind.

Absolute best biology teacher at GCC. Dont take any other prof for BIO 182, I mean it. Theres so much material to cover, but he has a great pssision for the subject and makes it EXTRMELY enjoyable and relatable. LOVE the teacher and I hated this class before, I took it with another theacher and practically failed, but he made me love this class.

Dr. Gergus was amazing and had very interesting lectures. He has fill in the blank detailed notes. Study those and you'll do fine. Tests are part multiple choice and part short answer. We had to write two papers and go on one field trip. He gives lots of extra credit! USE THAT WISELY!! His labs are quite fun and has notebook checks weekly. Study!!!

Good teacher. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Only way to pass class, tests are tough. Answers emails, tries his best to help you understand. Grades everything late, went from a B to low C at the end of semester.

Learning made easy and interesting, not just memorization. He provides everything you need to succeed in the class, notes, prelabs, and even study guides for every exam. Do the work assigned and you will know what you need to pass the class. Pay attention to mastering biology and the study guides he gives and the exams will be so much easier.

I appreciate teachers who are passionate about their subjects, and Dr. Gergus definitely is. Yes, the class is difficult, and there is a lot of material to learn. My advice: read the chapters and review the study guides he provides. And as with any college level science course: study study study. You CAN pass (and even enjoy) this class!

Bio 182 is not my favorite class but Professor Gergus did a great job. From his teaching style you can see that he loves what he is doing however his time management is weak and little bit disorganized. He is always happy to extend the due dates and he is easy going. Easy lab practicals and interesting lectures. I highly recommend him.

Lab practicals are very straight forward, just study! One bad exam isn't the end of the world. Extremely helpful in class and outside. Just completing all assignments you WILL pass. Offers applicable extra credit. Elaborates exactly what you need to know and has good dad jokes to help you remember things! Great guy, wants best for ALL students.

Dr Gergus is great! I personally love the subjects covered in this class which made it easier but regardless he's passionate and wants you to succeed. As long as you do the study guides you'll be fine for the tests, also there's lots of cushion room in the grade book with easy homework, extra credit and pre-labs. 10/10 recommend

There was a lot of material but Dr. Gergus made class fun and used humor to engage us. He works with you on due dates and will help you out as long as you ask. He's not anal about attendance. Funny, caring, entertaining.

I really appreciate how fast he would respond and work to make the info understandable. You will need to study, its Bio. He gives great recaps over the lessons you read before going to class. Only thing I would appreciate would be a little less political views in class, would not talk politics, but easy to see his views when talking about covid.

I honestly loved the class I had with him in bio182. He is super passionate about biology and made coming to class so much fun. The material is kinda boring but hearing him talk about it and make it fun and entertaining has made the class so much more fun to attend. Would 10/10 recommend him to anyone for bio182.

A very amazing teacher/passionate about material. TOO passionate. He'd go on and on and it could be very info overload. sometimes he didn't finish chapters in lecture because he'd talk too much. Had him for lab and lecture and it was like 2 different classes I constantly had to study for. He took that 1 cred lab too seriously. Get ready to work.

Biology is a tough class, but he makes sure that the material is coming across clear. Only problem is that his assignments are due in a weird order and will randomly change assignment due after they are already due.

I had not taken a biology class since middle school and was nervous to take this class. I took the 5-week accelerated summer course and I believe the resources and teaching methods from Dr. Gergus helped me to succeed. Reading quizzes, workbooks and study guides helped me retain the information and know what to look for on exams. Highly recommend!

I took Bio 156 with Dr. Gergus over the summer, and I would highly recommend his class. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, which makes learning both enjoyable and easy to remember. Plus, the final exam was online, which was very convenient. Just be sure you put a lot of time aside for this class.

Just study and it'll be interesting to learn. If you don't understand his lecture you can go to the online textbook chapter and read it yourself and it'll match and clears up any confusion. That's how I did it and it was a “ohh this was wha he was talking abt” I'd take again if needed. He's a really chill professor who likes teaching
