Erik made a genuine effort to help everyone as much as possible. I think he just suffers from lack of experience. He doesn't have great teaching skills, but he tries. I think he'll get better.
The worst teacher ever. I do not understand how someone can teach a class by giving three or four examples each day. He definitely lacks experience and the best thing would be to bring someone who knows what he or she is doing.
I really like his teaching style. He is able to keep up a pace that gets us through the material, but still answers questions and is very helpful.
Erik is a great teacher, bunch of whiners and snivelers here who can't put in the effort, apparently. Class is TOUGH, but Erik's always available for help outside of class, and puts up with any and all questions.
Erik is a great instructor. He is teaching an extremely hard subject so his classes are challenging, but he helps you out in any way that he can. He is an extremely intelligent person so he sometimes teaches above you but just raise your hand and he brings it to your level.
erik is easy to love because he's a great guy. his lectures aren't as smooth as other teachers' lectures, but he covers a lot of material. he is always polling the class for feedback on everything from lecture content to dress code. very friendly and works with people's schedule issues for homework and quizzes.
Physics is fun. But wow! So many resources for a student to keep up with. The labs were great and lectures were never long enough.
Physics is a hard subject but he teaches it well. It also helps that he's younger and in touch with what students are interested in. Erik's good sense of humor and great bod make showing up to class easy!
Erik is a very intelligent professor. He knows his material quite well. If you ever need help he is willing to give it to you. Tests/Quizes are detailed and you have to know the chapters. Overall he will help you learn and as long as you are willing to put 100% effort, you'll do just fine.
Great teacher. Class can be a lot of work online, but he is more helful than many campus instructors I have had. In four years school he is one of the best.
Very hard, class work was done all online. The system used is very hard to understand and use. grading is OK no curve. Lab teacher was completely useless.
Erik is one of the best instructors in my list at Chemeketa. He is an intelligent teacher and knows his material quite well. Even though Physic is not easy to understand, Erik makes it easy to understand. He is there to help you when you put 100% of effort to do well in physic. He can answer all of your questions immediately. Like this instructor ;
Erik is the best teacher ;). He knows his material quite well. He is so helpful and an excited person. Physic is not such an easy stuff, but Erik makes it completely easy to understand. But, u need to read ur textbook before the class to understand what he is talking about. Erik is an intellegent instructor. Love taking classes with him ever :)
by the end of this school term I will have had 3 terms with Erik. He is awesome. Before starting physics I was soo afraid of it, he made me like physics and really enjoy coming to class and labs. Not even nearly as hard as Chem. Brush up on the algebra, and keep up with homework and you will do just fine!
He is one of the best teachers i had so far in college. i first thought that his class was going to be hard due to fact the number of material he gives out, BUT I WAS WRONG! he made easy and clear , so it wasn't that bad to the work. Besides, he's not that bad to look at either :)
Doesn't explain anything clearly, assigns written problems that are more like riddles than physics problems, uses a useless homework setup (mastering physics..everyone in class googles the answers as the questions are imposiibly hard)
Erik, is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had in undergrad. Class isn't easy, but he is there to help you the whole way.
I took all three terms of physics with Jensen. He is an awesome instructor who knows his stuff and explains everything clearly. His written HW really forces you to understand the concepts. The quizzes and exams are open book but are challenging. He is very understanding and cool. Note, this course requires you to be good at algebra and trig.
He is the best professor ever, I struggle in the beginning but he did everything he could to make me understand the concepts. he never let's any students down and on top of that, he sort of hot!
This was pretty awful. I was told to take physics at ccc and NOT at wou. Either physics is the worst class to ever take, or he is an awful teacher. the only thing good about the class was he is pretty good looking. The only thing keeping my grade afloat is the fact he gives partial credit.
I've been waiting all term to write this review. He is TERRIBLE. This class wouldn't have been so difficult if he actually taught! Literally did NOT teach whatsoever. And he's very unapproachable, I got a B after working my butt off nonstop the entire term. Do not recommend.
one of the BEST professors ever!! he's nice, but didn't ask much for help since i'm always intimidated to ask. he is SUPER nice & works with you to make sure you succeed in the class! definitely wants you to succeed, not fail. if you're willing to meet him half way, he will definitely do what he needs to help you pass the class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Erik is an awesome teacher! Really clear, ground-up teaching style. Very good at working with you to get a good grade. He's not very approachable to talk 1-on-1 with, but if you do, he'll help you out. Totally recommend! He uses an older edition textbook (most of the homework is from it), so it is pretty inexpensive.
Great teacher!!!!!!!!! Breaks down tough physics concepts and makes them easy enough to understand. Grades very fairly.......
Eric is a very nice, friendly teacher. The material is hard, but he does what he can to make it understandable. If you are having trouble with the homework or tests just visit his office and he'll really help. He may seem like a scary bear but he's actually easy going and nice. :) I recommend him~
He is Horrible I had him for a online class and half of the information he gives is wrong. And cannot break hard material down easily and to get help online is nearly impossible. Unless you are already a outstanding Physics student I would Not recommend taking this professor. He's arrogant also when asking for help if you ask more then once.
Would NOT Recommend... This professor does not grade according to his stated rubric nor does he allowing anything but perfection in his labs and exams. He does however allow partial credit on his exams. But seems confused at time and overall cannot teach the subject well.
Lab reports are time consuming and are expected to be perfect. Repeatedly asked him questions to only receive a strange look rather than a helpful response. Weekly quizzes were impossible for me (and others) to get an A because it was so difficult and different from homework practices.
Erik is one of the best teachers Ive had. 200 level physics a very hard subject which isnt for everyone, but I came in with a trig background and no physics knowledge and I got an A+. If you put the effort in, Erik will meet you the rest of the way. He goes fast to cover all the material, but He's always willing to stop and help. Fantastic teacher.
Really good teacher overall.... but he's not a calculus or physics textbook. sometimes in order to get full credit for his assignments you really have to do a lot of digging and think outside of the box... Do not expect an A unless you have dedicated the time to the class or are willing to have no friends for the A!!! its 5 credits!!
I took Erik's class last spring. Entering into physics, I had spent years playing guitar in local bars, making a decent living at my age. I chose to go back to school to further my education, and Erik gave me the confidence to stick with it. His class is difficult for the average brain, but a B is what I will take for my effort put forth.
Erik is an awesome teacher! He comes off seeming hard and dismissive, but he is actually nice and an easy grader once you get to know him. He's kind of a nerd and can be really funny!
Erik Jensen is awesome. I didn't totally get him at first but, after the first couple weeks I got used to his style, and I realized he is an amazing teacher. He also has a really funny, dry sense of humor.
Erik Jensen is my favorite instructor at Chemeketa. His lectures are brilliantly clear. He encourages group interaction in lab and lecture. He walks by EACH student to check their work & offer assistance. Erik has a great sense of humor, which makes class fun. Great office hours. He grades fair and generously; gives you the benefit of the doubt.
Erik Jensen is an excellent physics instructor. His lectures are brilliantly clear. He encourages group interaction in lab & lecture. He walks by each student to check their work & offer assistance. I loved Erik's teaching style. He explained the concepts clearly and well, then gave us equations. He then had us do in class work with a partner which was basically tinkering with the equation to see how different values affect the outcome. Always bring your textbook and you should do well in the class.
He is an amazing teacher with a great sense of humor. His explanations are amazingly clear and as long as you give effort to learn you will do great.
I was an electronics student, but Erik actually inspired me to learn more about science and audit courses online. He made physics easy to understand and even clarified some questions I had about electronics theory. You need to have a good grasp of trigalgebra before this class. He doesn't waste time covering that. Best class I took at Chemeketa.
Excellent teacher that likes to have fun. He has a challenging, but easy to follow curriculum. Expect a heavy dose of homework each week. While the content of the class is difficult, Erik tries very hard to make it clear and fun to learn. He is realistic in expectations. Overall a great teacher! I would definitely recommend him.
Wouldn't recommend his courses. Seems like he thinks no one deserves an "A" in the course. He will dock points whenever and wherever he can.
It's a hard class, especially coupled with several other courses. But Erik is very helpful and understands special circumstances. Always helps if you come to his office hours with any questions. Also has a good sense of humor. Do all homework and study to succeed, this is science and engineering.
Erik was a very good professor to take the physics for engineers sequence with. He always was very relaxed with his teaching style and had realistic expectations for his students. His labs were educational, while not being too difficult. His tests were almost always passable and overall he is lenient with deadlines. Perfect teacher for a hard class
This teacher is dry and jaded. His teaching style did not work for me. I think he works well for the engineer type personality because that is his type of personality. If you need someone that seems to love their job and teaching, do not take this teacher! He does not explain things well and moves on to the next idea quickly.
This guy is super caring. He's quiet and seems serious but he's really easy going and helpful!
He subbed for our class the last two weeks of school and did an excellent job, I learned more from him than our original teacher.
It is halfway through the term and Erik decides to tell us that he is doesn't understand why we haven't been explaining why we are using certain equations on the exams and homework. We haven't been doing this because he never told us to! So he will mark you off for not doing something he never told you to do! Worst instructor I have ever had!
He doesn't explain things very well and tends to sound very rude.
I had Erik for the entire PH201,202,203 sequence last year, he seems intimidating at first but he is a really nice guy and is eager to help you with whatever questions you have. He is a fair grader and his quizzes and tests are not the bad as long as you prepare. There are extra credit options available and you can get an A if you put in the work.
I hate how reviewers are all like "he doesn't care about me like my father never did...". Okay he's a teacher. His job is to teach, not take care of your neglect issues. He did a great job, he is always ready to help if you need, and he doesn't give you a show for ratings. He's genuine, which means more than expecting him to be a therapist. :)
Physics is a difficult subject for many, firstly. To be able to teach physics well is also hard to come by. Erik is very good at explaining concepts. It doesn't mean it'll be easy, but he's a great teacher and very willing to help. His humor doesn't always rub people the right way but I thought he was funny. He is very passionate about physics!
Physics is hard for most of us, and I also found it challenging but I directed my frustration at the subject. Eric truly cares about physics and if you can understand his humor and his passion for physics, you'll thoroughly get something out of his teachings and assignments. He is very nice, extremely clear in explanations, and very helpful.
Physics is a hard class but he really does make it harder than it needs to be. Funny guy, can really make you laugh but there everyone always needed more time than was given for the weekly quizzes. ( there are no exams except for the final)
Erik gives a lot of work because he wants the student to truly understand the concept. He would rather have you get the answer wrong but show that you tried. There are labs and quizzes every week. He lets you resubmit the labs for a better grade if they are not up to his standards! Make sure to complete every assignment and you will do great.
Physics is already a hard subject itself and he makes it even harder. You are expected to explain the math done and why you did it. There is something due Monday-Friday. Sometimes it's multiple things due. Because the exams were online because of Covid, test/quiz were recorded; as in there is video recording you as you are taking the test/quiz
Say what you will about Erik- he cares about you, and he wants to see you succeed. He is so easy to contact and will respond to you so fast, pretty much all day any day. His material is so easy, and hes really good at helping you find what you need. The people who gave low scores- Its COVID people, give the man a break.
This teacher is impossible. Class examples are very simple while homework and tests are very difficult problems he does not prepare you for. He will be helpful at office hours but always leaves out important details that lead to bad grades on homework and tests. Try to avoid him
In class, he teaches you little to nothing about the actual class in itself. It was his first time teaching General Science he said so himself. Would just repeat what was said in the textbook and if you have a question then he would just repeat what he said as if you didn't hear the first time. Says he'll help with homework but doesn't really help
While the lectures might be somewhat sub-par Erik makes himself available. This is especially so due to the use of Slack, you can often expect replies within the hour (not all the time, but especially near the time when homework is due.) There is a test every week with a couple somewhat difficult question. Be willing to ask a lot of questions.
Clearly knows the subject but lacking in communication skills. Lots of vague or "reading between the lines" with feedback or questions. Has NIGHTLY work due (M-F), most of it being tedious busywork but required for full credit (discussion posts/replies, etc.) Had much more enjoyable learning experiences with other science classes.
Wasn't that helpful at times when asked. About 5 assignments per week and some more time consuming than others.
The class is fun and fairly easy to succeed in. There are many assignments weekly, but he has decent office hours if you have any questions and provides weekly tip sheets that can usually help with any confusion from the homeworks. The in-person labs are fun and the textbook required for the class is cheap online or free from the library.
Very homework/assignment heavy. Definitely shouldn't be offered as an online class. Professor Jensen was good at getting back to emails and participating in discussions but could have had a better communication delivery/style in my opinion.
The class is set up to have multiple assignments due on different days. He responds fairly quickly, but he does give very passive aggressive feedback in assignments. So, if you are taking his class you gotta be able to learn independently. Physics is not an easy subject.
We had a snow storm this year, which knocked out my power for 3 days. I was not able to turn in my first 2 assignments. The teacher sent a nasty e-mail about it and dropped me the following day. I had prior arrangements with them and explained my full time job, and my child with special needs. This teacher only seems to care about their average.
This online class was very difficult for me to do on my own. This teacher assigns loads of work every week including weekly quizzes, labs, written and online homework and lecture videos with questions. Some of the labs were very tough to do at home on your own. I found myself asking tons of questions and I would get back vague answers. tough class
Impossible. Chemeketa REALLY needs to hire more Physics instructors. Both Herbert and Erik make the subject cancerous... Take the courses at Linn Benton with Greg. He is the GOAT
This course is extremely challenging, with lots of homework. The labs and tip sheets are extremely vague and hard to understand. When he gives feedback, it's very passive-aggressive and unhelpful. I recommend no one take this class, especially online.
Terrible professor and a very harsh grader. Clearly a pity hire from the department. Instead of grading our assignments and teaching us he is too busy posting on Quora. 0/10 do not recommend, avoid like the plague. PS if you are reading this Jensen im sorry you should consider quitting.
Receieved less homework in level 200+ math courses. At least 5 assignments a week, sometimes enlisting your friends to help you with labs. He should consider lowering the course load, because it is a General Science class, not an upper 200 level class. Reedeemed by leniency with late work, as well as generally chill attitude.
Horrible at answering your questions.
Erik is the best professor I have ever met! He is a very good at teaching, and though he gives a lot of homework, he is available almost always, and gives good advice. I would definitely recommend him, and take his class again. I want you all to know he is awesome, and hope that my advice is helpful! (P.S. Eric is a very good and intelligent prof.)
I contacted this proffesor asking if I could switch the class, otherwise I would need to drop the class. He claimed he'd help me do it if I caught up in work. I do the work. Suddenly i'm dropped. How is that the science department at Chemeketa is just so god awful, I get dropped 7 days into the term becuase, well I guess i'll never know. Horrible.
Instead of teaching me when I got things wrong on complicated equations he just marks it 0/10. I would like to know why I got things wrong so I can improve but he doesn't take the time to do that. His course outline involves something for everyday of the week. Seriously Monday-Sunday.
Very condescending when communicating with students. Has assignments due every day of the week and accepts absolutely no late work. Opened up a case against me with the school without my knowledge because I was behind in class due to the workload and scheduling conflicts.
I would advise anyone to steer clear of this professor and his classes. There is work due every single day of the week and will grade you 0/10 with no help or advice whatsoever. He always has something to say, or that you're doing incorrectly. His homework load is insane, and his online labs make no sense, and have no guidance along with them.
When asking this professor questions he would say well figure it out. He caught him self and tried to help me. Feedback was passive aggressive and very vague. Well look it up or read it again is what he would say. I wouldn't ask if I didn't need the help understanding. I was very excited for this class until he stopped responding to my questions.
Got marks off on a question and not sure why? Erik won't explain why beyond saying it wasn't what he was looking for. Want to ask a question in class? Erik will explain it to you in the most condescending way possible. You do assignments all year which aren't relevant at all to the midterm and final which are based entirely on your essay ability.
Extremely unpleasant, bordering on rude/mean in nearly every interaction. The entire class feels like throwing a dart at an invisible target in the dark. I hated waking up every day knowing I would have to participate in this class. I would never recommend.
Very rude in many interactions. If you make 1 or 2 mistakes on an assignment he is likely to give you a 0% on the full assignment, tell you what was wrong, and not tell you why or how to fix it. The work load is very high with little to no substance and the comments on assignments are lacking in motivation. I would never repeat this course.
The workload was very heavy for an online class; there were two 40-minute lectures a week, along with several assignments and labs. Instructions for labs were confusing. Grading was fast, but feedback was vague. The class overall had a heavy workload, and if you need the credit, I would take another class that fulfills the same credit.
Overwhelming! Assignments were due twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays, sometimes Thursdays). It's tough if you work or have other commitments. Weekly labs, videos, discussion posts, homework, and journals. Instructor is flexible w/deadlines, but feedback isn't helpful. Wouldn't recommend it if you have responsibilities outside of school.
Graded things very fast, but feedback was not always very helpful and put more pressure on the student rather than trying to help. Lots of work but it was manageable. Not a bad class if you keep up with the work.
gonna be straight up, this class was the hardest course ive taken. I did hybrid over the summer, so that didnt help. the final doesn't make a big impact on your grade (less than 20%) If you do your labs wrong, you WILL have to redo them and resubmit the work. I had to redo one 4 times. I spent a lot of time crying over this class. he chill tho
I do NOT recommend him at all! Get ready to do at least 10 assignments a week. He assigns group work each lecture, quizzes, labs, videos, online, and written homework. You will most likely get overwhelmed. He is the reason I actually started therapy:,D good luck if you do decide to take him.
While it's clear Erik wants to help his students, his feedback itself is often vague, unhelpful, and condescending in tone. He hold high expectations and grades with a harshness that is unfit for a general physics class. Smart and otherwise good guy, just not the best instructor.
The professor is a harsh grader and the quizzes for the most part are not even related to the course material that we study. Online homework is easy for the majority of the time, but when time comes to do the quizzes and even the final, the questions are things that we either didn't talk about or barely did in class.
