This class was actually fun and very interesting, and it was because of the Erik. He is very passionate about his work and teaches so that is applies to everyday life, overall this was a good class, not to much homework, very laid back, but you will learn in this class, he is also very helpful and just fun to talk to.
Very Clear-will explain things many ways so all understand. Would take again if I could.
Erik is very personable & helpful. This class is highly recommended. Only 2 test worth 45% of your grade. Only 3 homework assignments. Loved the class
Very interesting, Erik eases understanding of somewhat difficult concepts, and is willing to go over something if even just 1 person doesn't understand (can be annoying in a class of 'slow' people). Is a pushover as far as what he'll put on the exam (he asks the class for input).Person's comment below is ridiculous, only perpetuating UNLV's badrep
Great teacher!! The class was fun and interesting. Recommended. Never takes attendance but the tests are pretty difficult if you haven't paid attention
this guy loves to teach! he is younger so he connects with the students at a higher level. highly recommend this teacher.
i recommend him, most def. he's great.
GREAT TEACHER!! highly recommended!! he kept the class interested and asked for input on making the exams. he also cares about his students. just listen in the class and you'll do fine!
philosophy sucks maybe i just dont understand it but he was a nice guy!
He is so helpful. Phi 102 is not a easy subject to grasp, unless you have a patient teacher who is willing to answer any q's. He also encourages everyone to ask questions, and doesn't make you feel dumb. He's very open minded and understanding. Very clear on explaining things. Make sures everyone gets it b4 moving on. Cool thing is, he looks Jesus.
The class itself is very challenging, especially as it progresses. However, he makes it very easy to understand and spends a lot of time making sure everyone understands before moving on. There are 2 tests, midterm and final and that is it. Attendance isnt mandatory but its important to show up to understand the material.
you have a midterm and final. they consist of mostly multiple choice and some fill in the blanks and true/false. i suggest you should go to class if you're too lazy to read the book. he has cool hair.
Nice guy. He knows his stuff well. Take him! He has a pretty laidback teaching style.
Lindland is a really good teacher. He makes everything easy to understand and takes his time to make sure everyone gets it. There is homework every night so you will have to buy the book but the homework is really easy and if you do it most likely you won?t have to study for the test. He makes sure not to trick you on the test and he allows you to
Prof Erik Lindland is the best professor I have ever had! He is the most attentive to every student question. He truly cares about teaching well. Study class notes and book. Absolutely enjoyed learning fro him. Got an A+ in his MC/T-F/Short Ans'Logic course.
a cool and hippie lookin' dude. he's very concerned for the well being of his students. he tells you exactly what each midterm/final will consist of so going to class would be beneficial!! take him!
By far, the best teacher I've ever had. Highly recommend. Erik makes me want to be a better student. He is very motivational and his teaching style is innovative. He gets your mind into the subject and is a pleasure to listen to. He is highly intelligent and personable. Great guy, felt like one of my buddies. I wish all teachers were like him.
Hot teacher, hardly any work and a really good teacher. It doesn't get much better than this class.
Great professor. I recommend this class because he is funny, easy to understand, and kept me interested during his class. Attendance is not mandatory but it will help your grade a lot by coming and taking notes. Overall grade consists 90% on the midterm and final exam. However these exams are not difficult if you come to class.I rate him 5 out of 5
This guy is awesome. Highly suggest you take him. I really enjoyed his class. One of the best teachers at UNLV. He's patient and is willing to help you out if you don't understand certain concepts. Most of your grade is from a midterm and final but don't worry, the in class exercises prepare you for the exam.
Lindland is awesome! This is my first semester of college, and I really hope my future professors are as nice and interesting as he is. He keeps you interested, gets the class involved, and is EXTREMELY helpful! Most of all, you can approach him with no problem! His class is pretty difficult (for me). 2 tests, a few quizzes, and thats it. Take him!
Lindland is a really cool guy. There are only 2 tests the entire semester, and you practice so much before each test it's hard not to pass. If there are any questions he will stop his lecture and explain things until everyone in the class understands. I'd definitely take his class again!
I had no idea what was going on. I asked a bunch of questions, and erik's answers were so...convoluted and esoteric he confused me even more. The tests were easy to BS through however....but, I wouldn't advise taking this class
He's a pretty cool guy. The class material is hard all-around, but he makes it fun and interesting. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get an A or A-, and although studying was a requirement for me to be successful, I feel that I have learned a lot so far. He's a nice guy!
The content is pretty hard for a lower-division class. It took me awhile to read and absorb the material. But, I think I'll continue reading about Existentialism for awhile. If the concept interests you, maybe the class will help. Nice prof. You have a midterm, paper, and final.
Great Prof! Amazing, and brilliant!
uhhh wow what a weird class. all these philosophers are on drugs but interesting stuff. erik is a cool dude too
I see that the people below me were in the same class ( existentialism) as me. :)Interesting class, great discussions and erik is awesome. Take him- you will learn a lot and he is extremely friendly!
Awesome Teacher! Makes some difficult concepts very clear. The tests are mostly multiple choice and pretty easy.
Professor Lindland is a really great teacher. He truly wants his students to grasp each and every concept he throws out. He is willing to alter his teaching methods based on your learning style. Tests are a piece of cake if you go to class and do the exercises. Same with the little quizzes he sprinkles throughout the semester. Solid teacher!
This is a great professor! Attendence is NOT manditory but you need to be there everyday because he lectures over the material. I never read the book except to do exercises out of them in class, bring your book. He makes it esay and there is not much work in the class. No graded homework!
This was an interesting class. He makes the concepts as clear and easy to understand as possible, but if you dont get it you just wont get it. The tests can cause migraines but if you study and practice a lot you should be ok. I only studied for the final and did ok. Only 2 tests and maybe some quizzes (if he decides).
Erik is an excellent teacher.
He makes a hard class very interesting and fun. Take this teacher, he's great. There are 3 books about $10 each. This is the teacher that made me want to dual major in philosophy. There is also something strangely attractive about him XD
Worst class ever! Only two exams midterm and final... no graded homework. Would not recommend this professor, take anyone else!
Excellent professor. I had little interest in the subject and was only taking the class to fulfill a humanities requirement. However, Lindland is so enthusiastic about the subject that he gets you into it. NOT your average boring philosophy class. Grades are derived from 2 tests and one paper.
BEST professor I have had and I am a JR.
Laid back guy. You only get graded on 2 things. Mid term and final. Although attendance is not required, I highly recommend you show up to every class. Missing one class will set you back pretty far. Buy a book, you will make good use of it. But don't stress, you get a lot of practice. The other guy is right, I can see the resemblance to Jesus lol.
Went into this class worried from everything ive heard about PHIL. I made my schedule rediculous to get this teacher because i heard he was good and it was well worth it. Might seem a bit nervous when talking but he always made sure we were in complete understanding of every topic. Loved the class just make sure you attend every one!
Def. recommend this prof.! He was so clear on the concepts and he actually cares if you understand. Grades are only based on the midterm and final, so you better do well, but it is easy to. Do not miss a class! So much is learned and reviewed that it would def. set you back. Id def. recommend anyone who doesn't know anything about Phil to take him!
If you need to take a philosophy class, take this professor. I came to this class having no interest in it whatsoever, now I want to take another philosophy just because Lindland makes it so interesting.
He is funny and nice. Definitely attend class coz he simplifies terms from the book. He is fun, he shows videos to help facilitate learning.
Professor Lindland wants his students to understand the material and pass his class. your grade is based off midterm and final. He teaches the concepts in his own way so go to every lecture. Make friends with your classmates because you'll take notes each lecture. If you miss i think the book helps too. Take Lindland for PHIL!
I took him for the summer course, it is obvious that he is passionate about the subject. he canceled a lot of classes and I swear he wore the same shorts for 5 weeks straight. One graded in midterm and finale and he does everything he can to make sure you do good in the class
He is a very good lecturer and allows a great deal of discussion. This is his first semester teaching my session and it hasn't been bad. Attendance is required even though not on paper because tests are mostly pulled from discussion. Its obvious though if he likes you in class or not as whether he allows you to speak or not.
Entered 102 expecting to dread it and Lindland gave me a new love for philosophy. Great teacher. I ended up taking Existentialism with him as well for fun and it was one of the best classes I've taken out of my four years here at UNLV. Not an easy class, but a mind boggling one for sure. Highly recommended.
Tests are straight from his lectures so you should attend class regularly. His lectures are entertaining and he seems like an overall nice guy. Work load is minimal.
Erik is BRILLIANT! He is BY FAR the funniest, most down to earth, hippy, teacher i've ever had. i would take him 10x over. he uses real life examples to teach & gets the point across to us. also treats us like adults. the guy is magnificent. tests are straight from the book & lectures. rarely gives homewk, & the papers he gives are straight forward
lots of prof's teach this class
He did a good job teaching this class. Class wasn't mandatory, but notes aren't in PowerPoint, so it is in your best interest to attend. He makes lectures informative and entertaining. The exams were slightly hard, mostly fill in the blank and definitions, however if you attend class and take good notes, you should do fine. I Highly recommend him.
Really enjoyed this class. The prof definitely knows what he is talking about when it comes to philosophy. Lots of real world examples made the class interesting. Make sure you attend class and study your notes for exams. Exams are tough but easy enough if you study from good notes.
It wasnt hard at all. It is a bit mind blowing but if you focus youll be fine. Never be afraid to ask question. He doesnt go by a text book so coming to class is essential. Easy A
Professor Lindland clearly knows the material well and is always ready to crack a joke. There were a few pop quizzes, handout sheets for homework, and two tests (midterm and final). The material can be a bit tough to grasp though unless you actually attend class.
Lindland was an alright teacher. Had to write a lot of essays, but it wasn't hard to get an A on them. His sense of humor may only cater to few. He is also very scattered brained and jumps from one subject to another. Can be confusing sometimes. Only exams were the midterm and final, both of which were pretty easy if you studied.
He looks like Jesus and Dave Grohl combined and that's reason enough to take his class. No but seriously, he's the chilliest teacher I've ever had but I did learn a lot. Only two assignments, midterm and final and I have a B. Just take notes. There's also no book which is GREAT.
He was a good professor and did as well as I can imagine is possible in explaining complex existential and philosophical concepts. He was available for help and feedback if you needed it, meaning even students with the worst understanding of philosophy could succeed in the class with enough dedication.
Lindland is an amazing professor with astute knowledge. Phil 102 will challenge how you look at real world applications. No textbook or homework, which is a blessing. The absence of homework is the heavily weighted midterm and final. Both are fairly simple if you do not over analyze the concepts. This class was really fun and interesting
I took him online and the class was very confusing. There were computer glitches where students were marked incorrectly for correct answers on exams. He never graded our practice quizzes or discussions, which made it difficult to know how well we were doing. He also kept changing assignment due dates. I regret taking this class with him.
MOST CONFUSING ONLINE CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN!!! Beware and avoid his online class if at all possible. Doesn't give feedback on practice work, so you have NO IDEA how to correct what you're doing wrong. Due dates kept changing, the course calendarsyllabus was also hard to understand, and the grade book was inaccurate. I regret taking this class.
Don't take phil102 with him, touch teacher, not helpful, materials were very confusing.
One of the best teacher I have taken. There will be two tests and one final paper. If you study for the tests you should pass them. Make sure to go attend class or you will fail
AVOID! Took this class online, never responded to me once the whole semester. Didn't provide feedback on assignments. You have to figure it out on your own. Tests have info that is not even covered in course. You don't know how you're doing because he doesn't uploading grades. You are pretty much wasting money taking this class with him. DONT DO IT
By far the best professor I've had in my first year of college. He doesn't care about attendance however when you miss a class you'll find the topics a bit difficult to understand. He makes it easy to understand and homeworks are done in class! It is not graded. He even gives out worksheets for those who were unable to get one. Great professor:)
Easy class if you attend lecture. However, do not expect him to care about you, your grade, or personal hygiene. All help I received was from the TA.
In all honesty, Phil102 is a very hard course for people who do well in school and cannot manage to learn in a different way. I think Professor Lindland most definitely understands what he is teaching, but he explains it in a difficult way to understand. If you go to him, he is willing to help. Overall, it's a very difficult class, good luck.
Great professor. Knows what he's talking about and can help you if you need it. Pay attention, take notes, and the exams are a breeze.
I always enjoy learning about philosophy, and this class was no exception. Prof. Lindland will get you engaged into the content to where it feels like you're having a conversation, but you're actually learning. Classes will feel natural and not forced. It is important to attend, because your notes will be your study guide to the exams.
Professor Lindland is an awesome teacher. Took him this past fall for Phil 242. VERY interesting class and I learned a lot. He knows what he is talking about and the lectures go by very fast because he's not boring. Very little homework. Easy A if you show up for class every day, do the few written assignments, and study for the midterm and final.
great professor ever
Philosophy is a tough subject, however professor lindland makes it so simple and interesting. He cares that you learn the subject and tests you specifically on what he teaches. He writes his notes on the board so it is important to attend class. Very helpful professor.
Just go to class, pay attention, and you will pass. He takes the time to make sure students understand the concepts before he just moves on to something else. One of the best instructors. Don't buy the book he teaches off the top of his head.
Good professor. He gives clear instructions about what he expects on exams and is very reasonable. For example, if the majority of the class points out that he never taught something that's on the exam, he has no problem removing it. His lectures can be a little scattered, but that's just philosophy for you. Glad I took this for my 2nd year seminar
Absolutely enjoyed this course. I took this class in a lecture setting. We did not have a textbook, and Professor Lindland made sure that the students got the chance to practice the techniques and vocab that we learned in class. My favorite part of the class was learning about the linguistic manipulation techniques!
Lindland is a awesome professor. Took him for 102 and 242. Lindland is practical. His class is based 100% off what he writes on the board. he doesn't take attendance, but you MUST go to class to know what's going on. Only negative is the class is pretty much based off a midterm and a final.
Lindland is awesome. He makes a dry subject very interesting. Go to class because all tests and quizzes are based off his lectures and he doesn't post notes online. There is a lot of homework for practice on the subject. He won't check it, but DO IT. This is definitely a class that I took something away from.
His lectures are extremely informational and fascinating. Grades are based more on students' understanding of the topics and abilities to deduce and formulate their own thoughts than on regurgitating facts. The tests are difficult - study hard and take lots of notes.
does not follow a syllabus and is very lecture heavy. tests are true/false/short answer. he is unclear of what might be on the test. This professor did things last minute. He would send emails out last minute of work needed to be done. Our midterm was a month after everyone elses midterms, which gave little time to learn material for the final.
We were only given a few (vague) assignments that were worth very little. The midterm was closer to finals week than it was midterm week. The class was incredibly unstructured; we ended up only touching on the last topic the day before the test. There were a lot of readings and the midterm was very dependent on them. I hated philosophy with him.
No clear schedule. Few assignments not worth much. Midterm was too close to the final. NO multiple choice because he said he is "not that creative". It's all fill in the blank, true/false (where it's literally 1 word that makes all the difference so read CAREFULLY) and short essay questions. Also questions were confusing. Hard to contact.
Tests followed his lectures very well. Taking notes is vital if you want to do well in this class because this will be your only source of study guide. Had 2 tests and 1 essay with a few homework assignments that were worth like 1%. He is very knowledgeable and went over interesting topics.
His course was extremely unorganized. From the lectured material to the exam materials, Professor Lindland had no structure to what he was teaching and how he was teaching it. There was a syllabus given but no schedule for assignments and exams. His midterm was given out WAY passed the time of the semester he was supposed to give it out.
Just talks throughout the whole class. Super boring and easy to fall asleep in but if you go, you should pass. I got a C because he didnt put anything in the grade book until midterm. I missed 1 assignment and grade dropped badly. Other than that, he's okay. Assignments are a bit confusing but short
You get a philosophy crash course early on to give you some rounding. Participate please! The only graded work in the class is a paper and the Midterm and Final. Make sure to go to the study sessions for both exams, he gives good info. Exams are essay-based but gives several options for topics from what you've study. He shows interest in students.
This class was based upon the interaction between professor and student. It was a lecture open to student interjection. It was very thorough and helpful. However we were only graded on a few homework assignments, a midterm, a final paper, and a final exam. The two exams were not reviewed well and his assistant grades harshly on assignments.
Professor Lindland is a great prof. as long as you show up to class and pay attention. There aren't set lecture slides so be ready to take lots of notes, but he really is a nice guy that makes learning about philosophical topics fun and interesting.
An amazing teacher, one of the few teachers that does not use power-points to lecture, thats why it is important to attend class. He's a humerous professor and his lectures make you want to know more about philosophy. The class can become diffuclt at times but just ask questions and seek for help and you'll do fine. I strongly recommend him
A great professor!! Seemed passionate about philospohy and lectured for the entire class time. I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed learning the material. Doesn't take attendance, but attendance is important in order to do well for the class, due to notes. Took a midterm, few quizzes, super easy homework, a final exam.
I took two of Mr. Lindland's classes years ago (Critical Thinking and Existentialism,) and I still remember them well. Erik Lindland is a very insightful guy, and knows his stuff when if comes to philosophy. He left such an impression that here I am many years later writing him a solid review. My views are still evolving based on his teachings.
Dr. Lindland is truly a great professor. His lectures are easy to understand and very thorough. Though attendance is never taken, it is important to go to class because all of his lectures are written on the whiteboard. If you study, take good notes, and participate in class, you will do just fine.
Very great professor this is one of the few classes ive enjoyed at unlv. Very easy to pass this class with minimal effort
Class is not mandatory but all of the notes you will need for tests are written on the white board. Professor Lindland makes the class easy as possible and enjoyable. Show up and pass thats it.
Great guy, I previously took Lindland for PHIL 242, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to take him for PHIL 102. He's very good at breaking down difficult philosophical concepts into layman's terms. Before the exams I would definitely recommend to study the notes, and homework, and to also attend his review sessions if possible.
Lindland's PHIL102 class is by far one of the best classes I've taken at UNLV. He's very good at explaining concepts to people and he entertains questions when students are confused. The lectures are paced alongside the students' understanding. Take notes and listen, other than that, this class is an easy A
I took Philosophy 102 online with this professor over the summer. I regret it. He was very unorganized, and the grades on Webcampus didn't reflect our actual grades, so I had no idea what I was going into the midterm or final with. Our only real grades were the midterm and final. Video lectures were dry. Overall, I just wouldn't recommend.
No web campus, no slides, no chance if you don't show up. His teaching is old school-as in, you go to class and he actually talks to you about the subject instead of reading slides. With good class participation the class can be downright casual, but pay attention; something that might have sounded like an offhand comment will be on the test.
Philosophy is a difficult subject especially with a bad professor. Taking this class with Professor Lindland was a great opportunity to learn more critical thinking topics that most classes don't introduce. He is really nice and if you show up to class you should do pretty well. He answers anyones questions and he sees things from every perspective
If you want an A, don't skip. If you do skip, just make sure you get good notes from someone. Everything that will be on the test is gone over in class so I recommend you don't skip. Very fun class if you can get into it. Would retake 100%
Erik Lindland is very passionate about the material he teaches. It is a joy to learn from someone who feels that what they are teaching is of importance. Make sure you read the assigned texts, attend as many classes as you can, and attend the study sessions. I would highly recommend taking him.
Test way Heavy on your grade. Not a lot of opportunity for more points. There's no book so attendance is a MUST. Take good notes.
Your grade relies pretty much on the midterm and final but he does his best to prepare you for it. You practice a lot in class but his in class examples are harder or identical to the test ones so just show up and do the work and you'll be fine. Theres really no homework either.
Lindland is an extraordinary professor. His enthusiasm is contagious and teaches in such an easy-to-learn way. You must attend class as there was no use of webcampus. Class is composed of 2 exams, and a few quizzes. Pay attention and you will breeze by everything. The content in which he teaches is easily applicable to real life. Take this man!
This is one of the best summer classes I have ever taken. Professor Lindland is extremely informative on his videos and super helpful. I emailed him every week for additional help because the material can be confusing and he was always responsive. He's a very understanding professor as long as you participate.
Erik made philosophy fun and interesting. He made sure the students understood the material and spent extra time with the class when he felt it was needed. Your grade is composed of only a couple assignments/tests but if you do well then it should not matter. I would recommend him to anyone.
Lindland is one of the best teachers I have had. I took his Existentialism class last semester. I love that he engages the students by using the white board and note taking for lectures rather than PP's. He is so, so freaking intelligent and I wish the class was longer! That is how good it was! Attend every lecture and study group to get an A
I really enjoyed his class and how he taught. He cared about the students and wanted them to learn rather than feeding them material and hoping they passed. He does not take attendance but if you don't go you will miss a lot. His tests are a bit odd, but if you show up to class all the time it's nothing you can't handle. 10/10 would take again
Erik is awesome and he makes PHIL so interesting. Just study the material and the VOCAB for quizzes and exams. Theres not much that makes up your grade so tests have to be nailed here. He also offers study sessions outside of class that were very helpful and his TAs have office hours if needed. Exams were different much like the Professor haha
Very nice and funny, lectures are not difficult, but take good notes! please! Above all else pay attention in class, thats very important. There's like one final paper and a few other minor assignments. I found my text for free online. 1 midterm and 1 final exam. They're not hard, but the questions are oddly phrased? Hard to explain. Fun class :)
Absolutely amazing. I had forgotten what it was like to actually enjoy and have an interest in the subject matter. He actually cared about making sure that students understood the concepts, rather than just a mere memorization for tests. Best class Ive ever taken, and best teacher Ive ever had the privilege of being taught by.
He waited until after the midterm to give us our first assignment and his tests are weird, he also doesn't use canvas or pay attention to his emails very much. He doesn't give very helpful feedback and because you have no assignments to go off of it's kind of hard to know what you need to work on. I wouldn't take him again.
He seemed like he wanted all of his students to succeed. He would post regular podcasts going over the material. Great teacher.
Love this guy, moves on when the class shows they're ready, interesting lectures, barely any homework and if there was it was easy! Always looked forward to attending class.
He's an interesting guy. Lectures are interesting, but becomes long and boring. He will hold class until the very end. Pay attention to notes because his mid-term/finals are from material in the beginning of the semester to the end.
He's a funny dude and definitely knowledgable about the subject, only gripe is he sucks at grading assignments on time and you have no idea where you stand in the class until semesters over. Attendance is technically mandatory but I had a lot of unexcused absences and still managed a B. Tests are entirely lecture so don't bother buying the book.
his tests are sooooooooo harddddddddddddd, he's very knit picky
Erik is super laid back. His classes are actually very interesting and he gives us the opportunity to have discussions with him and with other classmates to make the lectures more interactive and entertaining. I took him because I needed the critical thinking credit and I really enjoyed his class.
Take really good notes because if he's said it, it could be on the quiz or the test. I wish I'd had the chance to have him in person.
most time intensive this semester. No zoom classes. I didnt use a book. He set up modules that were available M-F. Typically consisted of a few videos, & a few(1-4)exercises & a quiz or two with it, every other week. Would do detailed verbal reviews of some assignments. Class was 80% based on 2 exams, 90% multiple choice. Overall good teacher
Instead of trying to cover too much, he would hammer the same stuff for three weeks at a time to give you ample opportunity to grasp it. Figuring out a method to study for this class was tricky but he was very responsive and polite by email. This is probably a better class to take live than online. Lindland is very smart but also open-minded. Rare.
This professor deserves this rating. He is a great professor, teaching a difficult subject. If you apply yourself and study, You WILL get an A. It was so hard, yet every test I got A's after A . Pay attention and you'll be fine!
I didn't like him that much, surprised there aren't more poor/avg reviews. He made this class harder than it should've been, 2-3 hours of lectures each week & 10 min short answer quiz. Ten 1 page papers. He leaves students rude comments when they get answers wrong. I can't imagine this class in person - take online so you can speed up lectures.
Took him when the pandemic first hit; he transitioned online rather well. Very intriguing class, but quality was not as good because it's lower division. You'll learn the basics of philosophy and Kierkegaard. Talk to him after class for good conversation. Put in the effort and you'll do fine. Good review for phil. majors and intro to non-majors.
Professor Lindland is by far one of the best professors I've run into at UNLV. I took his Phil 102 course with simple intentions(fulfilling credits) but I ended up loving the material presented in the class and learned way more than I intended for. He gets straight to the point with his lectures and his chill humor helped make the class enjoyable.
I found the material challenging but Lindland was able to break it down in an easy way. The test are based on the lectures and are similar to the homework.
Professor Lindland is by far the worst professor I have ever had. If you need extra help with the course, he is not going to help you but rather tell you to rewatch the lecture. He gatekeeper the major and makes it intentionally difficult. His directions are confusing and watches his students struggle. AWFUL professor. Do not take his course.
Pro? Fast when it comes to responding to emails. Cons? Just like other students have mentioned, Erik tends to leave snarky comments to answers you get wrong on tests or even self-graded HW. Just seems like he's trying to show off his intelligence by throwing in trick questions Every. Single. Quiz... 2 exams, no essays, weekly quizzes/lectures
Dr. Lindland loves to flex his intellect on students. He can be unhelpful in his feedback and if you as an undergrad don't have a PHD level understanding of the concept like he does, expect to lose some points. The whole online course is basically done in 3 hours a week every Friday so set aside your whole afternoon if you want to take this class.
Lectures are interesting but can be long and boring and the quizzes are only 15 minutes long & the way he words his quizzes is so confusing. You can watch the whole lecture and take notes but his quizzes are way too specific. He seems like a cool guy but hes just a really tough grader and his quizzes were very annoying.
Teaches the content well! As long as you carefully take notes on the lecture then you're good! The quizzes are moderately difficult in the beginning but you get the hang of it. Great content and he is extremely responsive to emails. Only a few papers around midterm and finals.
Material is a joke. superior complex, very vocal on low opinion of online students, leaves rude comments for feedback, requires all work to be done the day he post it (Tues & Thurs, quiz on fri, hope u dont work!), boring lectures, lacks consistency, messy module layout, massive emails & announcements which is stated in syllabus
Took this class asynchronous yet he made due dates Tues/Thurs night (& counted for "attendance"). There was definitely NOT enough time to do the assignments (he'd open them on Mon, due Tues..), quiz on Fri. Lectures are too long for timespan. Also he comes off somewhat condescending with emails & in general. Way too much for an intro class.
The course overall was challenging, but as long as you take notes from the lectures, you're set! The quizzes that are due every week are directly from the lectures basically word-for-word. Overall, I enjoyed the class personally, and he was very straight to the point and the lectures are very informative. I would recommend Professor Lindland.
Very difficult class, however he did not make it any easier to learn the course material. He gave 2 lectures throughout the week and would have quizzes every Friday with barely enough time to complete. Don't expect to pass the class at all because you won't. He gives out hard assignments to do and doesn't appreciate your hard work or your opinions.
Professor Lindland is a great professor. The video he gives us were clear and little long but easy to understand. He gives out quizzes from the video which was challenging because some of the questions were either based on the video or the questions were unclear. He takes a long time to grade as well.
The class is interesting and the path to success is straightforward. Take careful notes of the lectures and be prepared to answer questions directly based on them. Another recommendation is to take the class after english 101 and 102 as it is a writing heavy course. Lindland is above average for ULNV professors.
Dr. Lindland was ok. I didn't get many of the condescending comments, but his feedback is terrible if he even gives you any. He is also a very tough grader and will knock off points if you don't phrase something exactly how he wants it (beware the Judge's Argument). The lectures are also way too long (and too dry sometimes).
Do not recommend taking this class. Only allows 15 minutes to take test. Need more time. Lectures are an hour long and he wants you to write notes for them that are unnecessary. If you like writing papers you will have a rude awakening with this class.
Haha, I really learned a lot from this professor, but he was also the spawn of Satan. He is absolutely mad for assigning four essays for finals week. I took this class for credit but this was by far the most stressful class I've had this semester. He really knows his stuff, but he gatekeeps philosophy a bit. I'm still taking him again, though.
The lectures are really long. Some can be up to an hour. Be sure to take very good notes. Some of the smallest things will be on the quizzes and the exam. I've received a question about the significance of Kirkeggard's name. Most questions that are on the quizzes will be on the exam.
Dr. Lindland's Advanced Ethics class was outstanding. His excellent prep helped us excel in the competition, outpacing Harvard, Yale, and Duke and overcome public speaking fears. I never felt judged asking questions. Incredibly knowledgeable, highly recommend for a deep, supportive learning experience. Eager for his Existentialism class next!
Super lecture heavy! Quizzes are what you learn from the lecture, so take notes. I did not pay a lot of attention, so I struggled a bit. Required a textbook but I didnt get one and got a B+. Easy A if you pay attention and take notes.~3 hw assignments and 1 quiz/week, 1 midterm, 1 final.
So rude and condescending about everything. Constantly gets things wrong in between his group work and lectures and does not fix them or provide any insightful feedback. do not take this course lol
The comments of him flexing his intellect on any student who doesn't have an extreme level of understanding of the topics are an understatement. He states he doesn't expect you to understand it great and won't grade on that, then proceeds to grade on that. He is incredibly rude in a large majority of his feedback, acting like a sassy high schooler.
He gave out a lot of one-page papers to give, and most of his lectures were an hour or longer. He tends to talk slower in his lectures, which can get boring sometimes. He is very passionate about his students though. Also, his quizzes tend to be confusing and contain irrelevant information from the lectures. BE PREPARED TO READ!!
Gave condescending feedback that did not help and graded very harshly. Lectures were super boring and when you would email him to ask a question he would have some type of rude response.
Extremely nitpicky in his grading. The wording of his exams are hard even when you understand the concepts. When asking for feedback, he isn't helpful and comes off condescending
Lindland has a unique teaching style - can be condescending but lectures are informative. unstuck study was a lifesaver for studying and acing the challenging quizzes. Overall, a tough but rewarding course.
very concise, and short online lectures. he also gives feedback! i enjoyed this class.
Great professor with informative lectures. He also gives feedback on quizzes and assignments! Just get the basics down for this class (definitions) and practice and you'll be able to pass. Lockdown browser was used for the midterm.
The class can seem stressful as first but once you build it into your schedule it is very manageable. The lectures at times are very long but they aren't unbearable. Just make sure to take good and thorough notes on the lectures and you'll do great on the quizzes. Almost all the answers to the quiz/exam questions will be said in lecture.
This class is lecture heavy, and BE PREPARED TO WRITE. Quizzes every friday(barely enough time to complete), with 2-3 lectures through the week(usually an hour or longer). While he does give a lot of feedback, it is very condescending and his instructions are vague making it hard to write papers.
The class was pretty decent in terms of scheduling and handling as an online course. Not too test heavy and his feedback on your scores as well as assigned papers you do is very clear and helpful. Lecture videos 2 times per week. Tests every Friday and occasional "One-Page" responses. Overall, the class was decent
Amazing professor. I haven't even finished the course, but I've genuinely enjoyed my time in his class. PHIL 242 topics were presented in a fun, interactive way that challenged you to think. There is a lot of writing, but it's engaging, not boring. Excellent feedback throughout. I would have rated even higher on the course evaluations if possible.
Erik Lindland was an amazing professor. His lectures are very clear and he knows exactly how he wants people to learn the material. Attendance isn't mandatory for your grade, but if you don't attend class, you will fail. Just taking notes and listening to his lectures are enough to pass the class easily.
Passionate about philosophy and understanding if you have trouble getting the material. I wish we could spend more time on certain figures and less on others, but the material was great. Lectures are long, but manageable if you don't wait until the day of the quiz. Grading isn't even harsh, he rewards effort. GOAT philosophy professor
