Really funny guy, Talks about his "dog" Parker alot. Really easy class.
Very fun teacher. Classes usually started a little late, and finished about 5 minutes early. He really made class a joy; one of those rare classes that I enjoyed basically everyday.

Easy to understand, interesting class, and interesting man.
He is very entertaining, but he is a nut case!
He would be great on the "Three Stoogees" b/c he likes to hurt himself for laughs. I found it annoying, but some people liked it.
About 60% of this class is spent talking about either his dog, Parker, or Bob Dylan (the greatest living musician). The other 40% is Philosophy that he's pretty good at relaying the main ideas to students. He's pretty entertaining, but sometimes, it's a little out of control.
I had this class at 8 in the morning, so I dreaded it at first. But, he made class fun even though he didn't like being there so early either. He's probably one of the most fun teachers I've had. He's also the kind to come on here and write a review of himself just for laughs!
He is one of those teachers you will remember for the rest of your life. Hes hilarious, and incorporates that into philosophy. He loves Bob Dylan. Lots.
He made philosophy fun- not easy to do. Always had a joke.
This guy is crazy! on the first day i remember him laying on the floor...He also talked a whole lot about his dog parker (who died by the way) and daisy...and showed me pictures of his adorable girls....then he tried to get me to babysit for his sisters baby girl Abby :) fairly hard class, but if you practice, you'll get it eventually!
i found him immature
Great guy/teacher. Made the class very interesting and easy to understand. He used some very unusual teaching methods, but to me it was just a breath of fresh air and a lot better than the same boring lectures every other teacher gives.
He is a great teacher, but it's not a really easy class. He tells a bunch of jokes and makes the material relatable. He's a little crazy though.
This guy is insane! He bangs his head on the wall, does jumping jacks in class, runs up and down the hallways. he always tells jokes and he is very opinionated and definitely not afraid to express his conservative views during class. he acts like a little kid. he got on my nerves! i would recommend someone else- even though his class is easy.
This guy is crazy!! Whenever he has to go get copies made, he runs down the hallway like a little kid. His class is ok, I'm just not interested in philosophy. But I'm glad I had him as a teacher.
First day he tells the class he forgot to take his Ritilin and proceeds to do jumping jacks and roll around on the floor. Always a joke and a story. Like being taught by a hyperactive 5 year old that just happens to have a PhD in Logic. Good change of pace, and the fact that the class required basically no work whatsoever helped too.
Funnies teacher ever! He once used his body as an eraser b/c he was mad that the janitors didn't clean his black board. Always tells jokes and will race anyone in the class. He is very good at explaining things but makes it fun too.

this is by far the funniest teacher I have ever had. this class was so easy because he made it that way. as long as u dont get offended easily u will enjoy this class
Total dreamboat

This guy is crazy, but a great teacher who makes logic really fun and easy to understand! You'll never be bored if you take this class, and he's really cute too!
He's completely off the wall, always bouncing around and talking about Bob Dylan, and his dog Daisy, but it kept the class interesting. His use of stories about his doag and using his dog to create examples really helped with understanding logic.
He was freaking awesome, tons of fun to have for class. He knew what he was talking baout and was always willing to help if you needed it. He is readily available in during his office hours. I highly reccommend him to all.
For some reason, people in my class did not understand the material, but he was nothing but helpful, funny, and knowledgable. He is somewhat opinionated, but that will not effect your final grade. Just do the minimal work assigned and this class is an easy A. Highly recommended teacher.
Fun and entertaining but you need to study. He doesn't give out easy grades but he is very helpful. He likes to break chalk on his head. He doesn't write on the chalkboard he writes on the wall. Don't call him docotor and East Coast rules.
Erik was indeed one of my fav prof at SIUE. He is entertaining, helpful, and has one of those attitudes that makes you want to go to class. I highly reccommend that you sign up for one of his classes! Great Guy. He is however a conservative, and not afraid to show it!
I have a tendancy of skipping classes, but I wouldn't miss his class even if I heard to ice cream truck coming...He's hilarious and the class is just a riot...He isn't a traditional teacher, but don't hold that against him because he loves to teach and is great at it...Tests aren't hard if you pay attention and show up to class...Not much homework
He is so funny and random. His class always keeps me entertained. I was at first a little afraid of this guy, but he grew on me. Test are easy and homework too. Listen to what he says and do the homework and you will do great.
Very scattered brained and hyper, spent most of the class talking about his dog or kids and then tried to jam the lesson in at the end for like 10 mins and wonders why noone knows what is going on, he seems to kno what he is talking about but doesnt push you, tests can be hard, he usualy goes soft towards the end of the semester tho so tought it ou
This class was a blast. I'll admit, he sorta scared me at the beginning of the semester with his crazy antics...But he really knows his stuff, very enthusiastic, and makes the class interesting. His style of teaching made the material easier to understand and more interesting. I would suggest him to anyone that has to take this class!
he is really unique.
What a great class! I think it takes a while to "get" Mr. Meade (don't call him Dr.) and his eccentricies. Some people never do. But if you have the right attitude you will have fun, and actually learn a surprising amount. The class was almost like a break for me in the middle of the day.
I thought this class was really difficult. It was a difficult topic for me. Professor Meade wasn't a terrible professor, he was just always acting stupid when I needed help on things. He played the White Stripes in class, so he can be forgived.
He wasted the first part of every class talking about random dumb things like his dog, or playing music. And is hyper, random. but when he settles down he really knows his stuff. and communicates it well. He is obviously way smart. The tests are not really hard if you practice. Mostly the class if fun.
He is professor who really knows his stuff. If you come to class and take notes and do the homework he assigns then you will get an A, if you don't then you won't get an A. He is very helpful and if you have questions he is more than willing to answer them. I highly recommend him for any philosophy class.
Prof. Meade is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He made philosophy easy, simply, and most importantly, FUN! Because of the way he teaches the subject, I looked forward to coming to class, as hard is that is to believe. Not only did he explain everything that would be on the exams, he made sure everyone understood the material. TAKE HIM!!
I found this teacher on here and I was feeling optimistic about his class. Bad idea. He talks about his kids and dogs and wastes most of class time. He doesn't review for tests.. In fact, the tests contain information he never even mentions. I am a straight A-B student and I believe I'm currently getting a D. I am planning on dropping him next week
Take him! Yeah he is kinda wierd and random. He is smart though! He always is willing to help if you have questions. JUst do the homework which is 15 problems saying yes or no to something. It's not difficult
He is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about. He is different but very interesting, and keeps class very fun. I felt motivated to come to this class. He talks about his dogs and such, but ends up tying them into the lesson. Its very effective. Tests are easy if you study and do the homework. I highly recommend him.
OMG!! Dude is freaking crazy!! You will love it. Likes to break chalk. Writes on walls, jumps around!! Likes dogs, hates cats. Loves Nashville, IL.
I Love Mr. Meade! When I didnt understand something he was willing to help and being that I asked for help he waited for me to be ready to take the test. He is great! Passed the class with flying colors because he was so helpful! Would not have passed with any other teacher! TAKE HIS CLASS!
This guys is pretty awesome. Great personality which makes it easy to come to class and stay awake. If you are in class and engaging in lectures you will get an A
EXCELLENT!! he's quite hilarious.. at the beginning of class you sit around and watch you tube videos. Homework is easy.. you grade it yourself and you decide if you earn a 8 or 9 out of 10 points. Tests and homework is easy!
Erik is SO fun! The first day when I walked in he was rapping along with a youtube video! The classes are always punctuated with entertaining mannerisms and tangents. 100% on a test and he'll give you a gooey butter cake! He doesn't really keep track of grades. Your final grade is based mostly on effort and some on how your grades are in general.
Interesting instructor. Difficult for those that require structure since he is very scattered. Read the book, use online tutorials, and visit him in his office and this material will be easy. Great guy!I got an A
Great teacher! You won't won't be bored in class, I assure you! Made an otherwise tough Philosophy course fun. He's a little cooky, but his methods got me through it.
He can be very random but makes the class fun. I had to take this course and received a high B in the end. Nothing wrong with his teaching. You NEED to come to class otherwise you will fall behind. Sometimes he can be annoying but makes up for it by making the course easy and interesting. Homework is easy and wont take time.
Erik is very different. You will either love him or hate him. I loved him as a performer but not so much as a professor. I was very confused and logic is not my area. He will make you feel dumb A LOT. Just show up to class because i lost a lot of points from pop quizzes.
very rude teacher. never available for help. will sit in class for the 3 hour class and only learn about cooper and daisy his dogs and watch 70s rock videos. also be ready to do your speech at the end of the semester because he will judge you and make you feel stupid. DONT TAKE HIM
Mr. Meade is very different from other professors. He is scattered and easily distracted, but somehow he manages to tie every one of his random tangents back to the lesson. I don't understand if he's good at improvising lessons or if he plans it. If you require structure for success I don't recommend him. But if not, I highly recommend taking him
He is so funny! He really keeps you entertained and teaches you at the same time. I would definitely take him again. The one draw back is that you have to keep track of your own grades to know what you have because he doesn't put grades in till the end of the year.
I love Erik Meade. He is a genius in his field. Also very entertaining, never a dull class.
He's a great teacher. He is very funny and makes every class entertaining. He is very smart and makes RA pretty easy. He really cares about his students. Great teacher and great guy. One of my favorite teachers ever.
Mr. Meade is a great teacher, don't get me wrong. However, what frustrated myself is that he doesn't input grades & his class can be very disorganized. Ended up with a B in the class. I feel like you can pick a better RA professor with the wide array of instructors available each semester but Mr. Meade is not a bad option.
Did not enjoy this class. Expect homework and reading every time you leave this class. Do not expect timely feedback. Didn't even get grades back for most of the assignments we did. He was pretty disorganized. He did keep my attention but later when I looked at my notes, that I wrote down during class, I was completely lost. Participation matters
I'd finally had enough and dropped his section. Worthless. There's a certain point when stories--and quiz questions--about your dogs get very tiresome very fast. And berating your students for not being able to memorize concepts you taught them for FIVE MINUTES is also a nice touch. The most patronizing, lackluster, unhinged instructor at SIUE.
Professor Meade is a very unique professor. He does not grade traditionally and he centers his lectures around his dogs. But if you do the assigned reading and homework you should easily get an A. He allows a specific cheat sheet for the second exam and final. He does not grade traditionally but he isn't that tough of a grader and he is reasonable
Prof. Meade was fantastic! While the subject matter was difficult and often the lectures a little unclear, he took the time to make sure students understand the material. Tests seemed daunting at first, but if you work hard Prof. Meade will work hard with you. You have to earn your grade and show that you are doing everything you can to earn it.
At first I thought this guy was funny, but as classes went on I was not amused. I thought I was doing great and was understanding the material. Then I saw my grade at the end of the year I got a C. When I passed my tests and homework too! How the heck did he think I deserved a C? He dosent grade you on points he grades you on what he thinks it.
I really didn't care for this teacher because I felt like his only reason for being there was to make the students laugh at him which I thought was not very funny. He had no respect for the student nor did he care if you learned are not because he wasn't making enough money so why should he go the effort to make sure you understood anything .@@@@
This man is amazing! He teaches the material so well, and makes it easy to comprehend. He is hilarious, and keeps you at the edge of your seat. Would definitely recommend.
I liked Meade for his humor. He kept class entertaining and didn't put me to sleep with lectures. However, he tends to talk a little too much. He gets off track very easily and doesn't explain materials very well.
Meade is great teacher with a good sense of humor and doesn't take it too seriously. He's thorough in his teaching, makes logic enjoyable to learn, and goes at a pace where everyone can understand if they work hard.
I have RA 101 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today is Tuesday and we have a test next class on Thursday. I drive 30 minutes to SIUe today and there is a sign on the door that says class is cancelled and that Mr. Meade is sick. None of the students got emails or notice about class. Your tests will be hard because he won't prepare you for any of them.
I would never take a class with this teacher every again. He spends most of class time telling pointless stories, and runs circles around explanations of questions. He makes fun of people's answers/confusions and is all around not a person I would want to be near. He doesn't teach well and he doesn't seem approachable. Don't take this class.
I personally did not enjoy Mr. Meade's class. Circumstances where made me feel uncomfortable by discussing politics, which everyone knows is not something that should be discussed, especially in a classroom. Spent 45 minutes of the class telling unnecessary stories and only 10 minutes on the lesson. If you don't take school serious he's for you.
One of the best teachers at SIUE.
Was an amazing teacher, just had a hard time understanding the course work in class but the one on one time helped ALOT!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Definitely a hit-or-miss teacher for a lot of people, and he tells you as much on day one. A lot of people are not fans of narrative style teaching, which seems to be the main criticism. If you are someone who learns through notes and reading rather than teacher explanation he may not be the one for you.
if you learn though reading and notes, this is not the teacher for you. If you need organization to succeed do not take this course with him. He's great to me.
He is the funniest dude I have ever learned from.
Took his PHIL 213 class Fall 2017 and dropped within the 1st week. Thought it was disorganized, but I was close minded. Scheduling forced me to take his RA 101 this semester SPR 2018 & I realized hes EFFECTIVE at his job (which is teaching not paperwork) and PASSIONATE about his profession. What else matters? Be open minded and youll be fine
"From the time someone enters University to the time of graduation, that person should be fundamentally different." If you disagree with this, don't take Mr. Meade.
Erik Meade is unorganized, forgetful, and one of the most interesting teachers I have had at SIUE. The material was actually pretty hard, but I appreciated the challenge and I think Mr. Meade presents the information in a thought-provoking way. I'm glad for the music he played and for the conversations held in class. Thanks Mr. Meade, Beyonce won.
This man is the Holy Grail of teachers. Everyday he brings something new and hilarious to talk about during lecture. If you depend on organization, Mr. Meade is not for you. Once you adjust to his personality you realize how different he is from other teachers, you actually learn about applying class to real life not just vocab words in a textbook
If you need structure, guidelines, and organization do not take his class. You will not know what is going on the entire time even up till last day. You will not even know what it is you're learning or if your doing it right but you will learn so much without even knowing it. Mr. Meade is extremely good at his job, its just in an unconventional way
A very underrated thing that is a necessity for college professors is humanity. Understanding because they too attended college and understand the hardships of being a student. He has that. He is extremely helpful and understanding, and if you show a drop of effort not only will he be helpful but it doesn't take that much effort to get an A.
I am thrilled that I had the absolute pleasure of taking Meade's Deductive Logic course. It was a very intense class and difficult to pick up but Meade was so amazing that it made the class very enjoyable. He is so funny, and for such a dense course it was awesome. I want to take every class he teaches.
You either love him or hate him. I found his lectures funny and easy to understand but he is not an organized professor. If you are structured and need a syllabus to follow, don't take him. I took this class with two hard sciences and I thought it was a good buffer course. Overall, he knows his stuff and is a good professor. I would recommend him.
Meade is nothing short of a legend. Half of his class will be story telling. (Which is fine by the way Erik, we love that!) The other half of his class he teaches the material quite well for how stale it is. This class was a breeze and I would never expect this class to be hard for anyone. It's a fun, easy class, I totally recommend him. Take him.
He's one of those teachers where you aren't entirely sure if he's good or not. He has a lot of lectures, lots of homework, but he's a pretty good guy. He lets you make up exams, and he is really hilarious. Just make sure not to skip or you really will not pass his class. Every day is important.
Erik Meade was probably my favorite professor at SIUE. He made us all laugh every class and ALWAYS started off class with some music and head bangs. I would definitely take another one of his courses. He made me want to come to class. Also, he really cares about his students and understands that life happens. I miss being in his class!
Mr. Meade is a good guy, terrible teacher. His lectures are all over the place and do not make much sense unless you already understand logic. You never know what grade you have in the class and he doesn't do a normal grading system.
Horrible. Mostly because his lectures are absolutely everywhere so unless you know logic, youre screwed. he also seems to find joy in humiliating his students that dont know what they are doing. hes very rude and I would never recommend him to anyone.
He's a really quirky person and makes lectures interesting. Willing to go over things multiple times if you don't understand what's going on.
The beginning of the semester was a little rough in this class because he moves very fast in his lectures, but it got better as the semester went on. The class is difficult and about 6-8 students dropped I believe, but you can tell he really loves to teach and is almost always available to meet and chat about your concerns in the course.
I believe he means well as a person, but the class is very scattered. There was no syllabus given and he discusses the actual material for about ten minutes of class. Very unclear about due dates. Very hard to focus.
Mr. Meade made what I thought was going to be a very boring subject into a fun and memorable class
Having Mr. Meade was a horribly miserable experience. He seems to humiliate students all the time and have no sense of respect for our opinions. His lectures are all over the place and it is a terrible and unorganized class. I was always so confused and he does not explain material or assignments well. If you like stability DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
The combination of Mr. Meade's enthusiasm, knowledge of the material, and genuine care for his student's makes him one of the best professor's I have ever had.
He most likely wont tell people their grades or post them until the last day of class. He says he grades by how hard he thinks you work in the class.
Erik is a nice person but he is not a good professor. It is ironic that a class taught about formal deductive logic is so unstructured and unconventional. Erik is often late to class and on arrival will ramble for about 30 minutes of class time talking about nothing. A few people click with the material and the rest are left in the dust. Just don't
He sees that we sent him emails but he doesnt read them or respond to them and if he does, he doesnt respond to what we asked. He is very hard to access after class for office hours. I emailed him about making up a quiz and I have tried to contact him and find out when I can take it for about 2 weeks with no luck yet. Do not take his class.
It is so hard to follow what he is saying. I tried taking notes for this class and I could not understand them. He is very disrespectful to students opinions and is SO hard to get his help outside of class. He does not explain things in a way that anyone can understand and he grades using a preschool grading system.
He doesnt use blackboard for grading and half the time wont tell you youre grade. He is very lazy and does not take the time to give you adequate help nor will he try to arrange a time for you to make up any missed work. Yes he has office hours but he does not respond if you are looking for help. He goes off on tangents for the first 30 mins too
Fun guy and made his class interesting. Do the homework he assigns and you'll understand the material. But.. he is disorganized. Barely posts on Bb so you need to pay attention in class for any homework/tests assigned . Although his grading criteria is odd, its an easy A/B. Definitely not your conventional professor, so be prepared.
Only uses Blackboard for very important assignment information, so do not depend on Bb to succeed in this course. Read the chapter assignments, do the homework, and you will most likely get on by with a B. Also, Meade uses an unorthodox grading system, so be aware of that.
Do not expect to see your grade until the midterm, and the final exam. Barely uses Blackboard; only when either forced by students or if he forgot to say something about an assignment. Mr. Meade only uses half of the period for formal lectures and usually the first half for whatever he wants to talk about (99% of the time, it is not about logic).
Mr. Meade doesn't use BB often, so being in class helps with knowing your assignments. He always started class by asking us if there was anything we wanted to share. Most of the class is talking about that stuff, but I didn't mind, it felt more laid back. As long as you do the work, you'll get an A/B. Homework is based off of if you did it or not.
i like meade, he likes what he does and his students, he can be unpredictable at times so it keeps his classes entertaining and engaged. he can ramble at some times, but it is probably to make the class longer. he doesn’t let you know your grade until midterm and at the end, which is okay but not terrible. easy work, not much of it either.
By far one of the best instructors I had during my time at this University. His class is based on his lectures and reading from two textbooks and "assigning" the practice problems (never checks but they are good practice) Rarely uses blackboard and doesn't use a numerical grading scale but you can always ask him about your current class grade.
Professor Meade is a really special part of SIUE! He is a real kindred soul and wants to connect with students. If you don't enjoy classes that have a lot of energy and aim to have discussions, maybe consider another class. I really loved having an opportunity to talk with such an intelligent and interesting professor about literally anything.
Mr. Meade is a literal legend. He might be one of the funniest professors/teachers I have ever had. He loves telling stories and he genuinely wants his students to learn. He doesn't grade based on points and if you put in effort you can easily finish with an A/B. You can go take another professor for RA and get an easy A, but taking him is just fun
Chill teacher, come to class and participate. He is intelligent but will go off on tangents. He has taught here for a while so he knows what he's doing. Knows this class specifically is harder to teach than others. You can negotiate with him and if you prove you have learned things he'll boost your grade. He just wants you to learn and understand.
He's a good professor. He does come off as crazy but in a good way. He's clearly very smart and knows about a lot of diff topics. He's honest and is good at receiving feedback.
Professor Meade is very understanding and caring when it comes to his students. You do read a lot, but as long as you keep up with the readings and attend class you shouldn't have a problem. Lectures can get a bit off topic but usually his stories always relate to class material.
A professor I'm sure to remember throughout my college years. He was entertaining, funny, and actually taught you the course, unlike some professors. He'll sometimes go on about stories from his life, but most of the time they are actually amusing. His grading system is a bit odd, but as long as you finish your work and show up, you'll be fine.
If you like unorthodox random teaching take the class
Mr. Meade is one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. I love his teaching style and always looked forward to his class, even if it was a Monday. He tells great stories and they always somehow tie into the lessons, this makes the class more interesting. I would recommend taking his class for many reasons!!
Professor Meade is a real character - his lectures are full of entertaining stories that somehow connect to the course material. While his grading system is a bit unorthodox, if you stay engaged and complete the work, you'll do well. I found Unstuck AI super helpful for acing the practice problems.
Mr. Meade is a great professor who really cares about his students. he goes the extra mile to meet with students outside of office hours and even during holiday breaks to make sure you are grasping the material. he is the utmost understanding and is full of life and energy. i would not hesitate to recommend a student to take his class.
Meade is quite literally the best. There's not a single teacher I have met that teaches like him. The philosophy department is lucky to employ such a great instructor. He is very funny and always uses his personal experiences and ideas to make material applicable instead of relying on controversy or firecracker statements to get students engaged
horrible teacher, very big ego with an inability to accept criticism. not accessible outside of class and not understanding.
Mr. Meade is one of my favorite teachers i've ever had. He is actually hilarious and keeps the class entertaining by telling real life stories and eventually tying them back into the lesson. I'm normally not someone who enjoys going to class but I looked forward to his class. Tests can be somewhat hard but if you pay attention you'll be fine.
