The MOST helpful and accessible professor in the history department. Definitely recommended.
Really nice man. Really humble and actually understands students. Not a typical arrogant academician. He'll go out of his way to help. He's an excellent professor. Take Him!
Great prof! He talks really fast but as long as you know how to take notes by being focused on key points you'll be fine. He's a fine prof. he makes the class and topics interesting. Tests are like any history test, key terms and essays. The reading is necessary.
Best professor I've had at UK. Extremely helpful. Nicest man you'll ever meet!
The best, most approachable, likeable professor employed on UK's campus. He is a real class act and his classes are a pleasure to take, they are hard but unlike many classes you actually leave the class with knowledge you didnt have before.
Best history professor at UK. Very nice person, and also understands his students. His lectures is basically a 50 min story. He speaks very fast, but pauses every 10 mins to allow his students to ask questions. Puts up 10-20 terms on the board (key terms), which will be on his test. Overall: TAKE HIM!
Professor Myrup is literally one of the best teachers on this campus! He is so much fun and enthusiastic about what he teaches that you can't help but to pay attention! I absolutely loved him and if you ever need help he is always there!
Professor Myrup is a great teacher and an even better person. he is willing to work with you and meet anytime you need. He also understands we all have other classwork to do and is flexible with his due dates on papers and projects.
By far the BEST professor at UK and an even better person. He is humble, enthusiastic, understanding, and helpful. His class is very entertaining and not difficult at all. He wants to see his students succeed and goes out of his way to help you. TAKE HIM!!!
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had! Very helpful, understanding, answers questions clearly and thoroughly. He makes lecture interesting and go by very quickly. Speaks quickly but pauses for questions. Write down all the key terms! There is a quiz each week but it's super easy as long as you read. Everyone should take this class!!
He is the best prof I have ever had! He is more than just an amazing teacher, but a nice, genuinely kind person. I am taking his class on Brazil next semester just because I enjoy his lectures so much! Going to class is enjoyable and informative! Take his class if possible!
Myrup is one of my favorite professors at UK! His lectures are incredibly organized and interesting. You have to take notes while he talks, but you get used to it quickly. He clearly loves the subject and loves to teach. His exams can be hard, but he tries to help you out beforehand. Also, he is very understanding about deadlines. Love his class!!
Mr. Myrup is a great professor!
Professor Myrup is the best professor I ever had in my entire academic experience. His course is not easy, but because he is such an avid and skilled professor, the learning process becomes easy. He is of the highest and finest teaching quality and professionalism and I am grateful that I had the experience to learn with him!
Great person, great professor. Dr. Myrup was clear, flexible, and wants his students to succeed. He makes class entertaining by switching it up. Also helped me improve as a writer. Probably my favorite teacher I've had in college.
He has a lot of passion for this topic, and it shows. He has a little bit of an unconventional lecture style in that he will write up the key words for the lecture every day on the board and just start talking. He gives study guides for exams and papers are pretty easy to write. Wikipedia was a good tool to fill blanks you may have from lectures
Loved his class. Taking him again next semester!
Dr. Myrup is one of the nicest and most approachable professors at UK! He's always energetic in class and talks fast but pauses for questions. At the end of the lecture, he ties everything together into a bigger picture. The class consists of 2 papers, a midterm, final, and discussionquizzes. Quizzes are an easy A--do the readings each week.
Hand's down the best professor I have had in college. He will go out of his way to help you with problems that you have in the class and is very understanding. Two decent length papers but flexible topics along with two big exams. Need to study for exams and do weekly reading but overall great class.
One of the greatest professors at Uk. I will always be on the lookout for any class he is teaching because he is phenomenal. He has an interest in the topics and makes every lecture interesting. Loved being in his class and can only hope I have the pleasure of being in his class again.
Excellent in every way. Took his class because of the ratings on this site and did not regret it one bit; best professor ever.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He is willing to help you in any way possible. His lectures are very organized and easy to follow. Make sure you take time out of your schedule to go to his office hours.
I have nothing but great things to say! So sweet, understanding, and helpful. He is always welcoming students to office hours for help on exams, readings, and papers. With that said, you need to study at least 5 days in advance for his exams. IT IS ALL SHORT ANSWERS/ESSAYS so you need to know your stuff and stay on top of your readings. Take him!
Dr. Myrup is my favorite professor at UK. He has an amazing way to grab your attention in lectures. He has your best interest at heart and will go out of his way to help you do well. If you like history at all- please please please take his classes (I took 3)!
I took his class based on the rating on this site and was not disappointed! He is the best professor I've ever had in my college career. He is willing to help you in any way he can. He loves what he teaches and you can tell. He is flexible with deadlines. He cares about his students and it shows. TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Dr. Myrup is the best teacher I've had so far at the University of Kentucky. He is extremely helpful and the lectures were well structured and he stays true to the syllabus. There's a decent amount of reading and the tests are lengthy, but nothing too bad. I would definitely recommend Dr. Myrup and I will be taking another class of his.
Dr. Myrup is incredible at lecturing (VERY intelligent man). YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS & DO THE READINGS or you will not pass. He is very helpful and friendly. His lectures are very interesting. The exams are VERY hard (you must memorize 70+ IDs for the midterm & final & there are also essays). The creative writing assignments are super fun! Take him!
Dr. Myrup I have ever had in my 4 years at UK. His classes are some of the hardest history courses I have taken at UK, but he is organized, sticks to the syllabus, tells you what he expects. He's also understanding and will work with you on due dates, etc. A must take at UK! Great professor and an even better person.
Dr. Myrup is an excellent teacher. His course is lecture heavy so if you miss class you are going to miss content. He has a midterm test and a final test. He gives three readings each week and a quiz on Friday. There are also two papers. He is animated and keeps you very engaged in class time. Very approachable. Loved him!!!
Dr. Myrup is a great prof who works hard to make his lectures entertaining! He gives the usual amount of history reading and really has a passion for the subject. He genuinely cares about his students and their lives outside of his class. If you can you should take him!
Good guy
He is one of the most respected history professors in the department, and there's a reason why. His lectures are so much fun and interactive, and overall he is a fantastic person who does his best to make sure the student is doing well.
Best professor ever. Enough said! Expect to read a decent amount, but he is always super helpful
Dr. Myrup is a very able teacher. Extremely lecture heavy, so regardless of the relatively small impact attendance has, it is very recommended. Grade based on two papers at 20% each (one creative, one research), midterm (essay and IDs) at 15%, final at 25%, and attendance/readings/quizzes at 20%. Really, really worth taking, and easy to work with.
Dr. Myrup is the perfect model of how a professor should engage with his students. If you're not wanting to read, however, I would highly recommend you take another class. There are readings from the course packet, books, and electronic readings. Also, there are two 7-8 page papers to write throughout the semester. His exams are writing heavy.
Professor Myrup is the prime example of what a college professor should be. He is easy going, caring and works hard to make sure he knows all of his students and what they need to be successful. His lectures are entertaining and he tries to get everyone involved and having a good time.
Absolutely the best professor I've had at UK. I'm not a history major, but he makes me want to take every class he teaches.
Even though the course matter was very dense and high paced, I loved Dr. Myrup and I believe he is everything a college professor should be. He is literally the nicest guy and really knows what he's talking about. He is super laid back as well. However, he doesn't use canvas which can make it a little difficult. Take one of his classes if you can!

Dr. Myrup encapsulates everything a professor should be. He truly cares about every student. He will help you with anything you need. He is a great teacher in every aspect. He is also one of the nicest and funniest people you can meet. I truly enjoyed his class and the discussions we had in class. He is exactly the kinf of teacher you want to take.
Dr. Myrup is the best professor this university has by far. He is incredibly caring and understanding and will let you turn things in later if life gets in the way. His lectures are funny, his assignments are creative and inspiring, and the readings are thought provoking. Take his class, you won't regret it ever.
Dr. Myrup is easily one of the best professors in the History department, if not one of the best professors at UK. His lectures are engaging and he structures them so it's like he's telling a story. He makes himself very accessible outside of class and is willing to stay late (i.e. past 5-6pm) and seems to genuinely care about how you are doing.
I took Dr. Myrups class and honestly had a rough semester and wasnt going to pass and planned on retaking his course in the summer. He called me to reach out and worked with me to retake his course separately to avoid any fees and to replace my grade. He truly loves what he does and cares for his students 12/10 man.
Fantastic Prof super nice, easy to talk to and lenient grader.
Professor Myrup is the best professor I've had in college yet. He is always willing to work with you and make sure you understand and comprehend the content. He's very big on creativity and allows you to have lots of flexibility with his assignments. He explains everything in lecture thoroughly and makes it entertaining even when he isn't trying!
Dr. Myrup is such a great professor, I would recommend him to anyone. I took his class for a core credit, and while you have to take notes and do the readings to do well, Dr. Myrup and his TAs are very lenient and forgiving with grading. You can tell from his teaching that Dr. Myrup loves what he does and wants his students to do well! Hes a king!
Very few professors are as enthusiastic as Dr. Myrup. His lectures are fantastic, although he tends to choose obscure IDs for exams (some are merely brushed over in class), so beware. I also didn't like how ambiguous the recitation grade was. It consisted of quizzes, attendance, and "engagement", but I didn't know my actual grade till the very end.
Dr. Myrup is a great history professor, he would kind of act out the stories he was telling which I enjoyed. He is a very nice guy who will put in the time to meet with all of his students if they need help or have questions. The worst part of this class is the discussion sections and the readings which are not that bad.
Dr. Myrup is a great professor. He is very passionate about what he's teaching. He also genuinely cares about his students and cares more about the quality of the work rather than when it's turned in. I will say there is a hefty amount of reading, however as long as you look at his weekly emails you can get away with not reading.
Dr. Myrup is an AMAZING professor. He is super chill with due dates and will work with you and not against you. His lectures are great. He does not waste your time. You can tell he really loves his job. You'll need to know how to skim readings. He is passionate about what he teaches. Show up to class, do the readings, and try and you will do well!
One of the greatest teachers that I have ever had. Dr. Myrup is good at what he does and he loves doing it. He is a master of his craft and for me it felt like a gift to be able to sit in his class and watch him teach. He is also very energetic and fun, and his exams are fair and nothing to stress over. Excellent teacher and class!
Not a history person, only took this class for a core requirement but im so glad that dr. myrups class is the one i picked. he truly cares about his students and does a great job of emphasizing learning rather than just memorizing things and makes lecture funny and interesting. only thing is that i didnt know my grade until the end of the course
HIS 104 has weekly reading assignments that you will be quizzed on each week during recitation, a midterm exam, creative paper, and a final exam that makes up the entirety of your grade. The exams are difficult, but manageable if you put time into studying. Myrup will do anything to help his students succeed, and makes class interactive.
Dr. Myrup made me interested in a topic I had no interest in with his amazing lectures. However, he rarely uses power point and info from the lectures are absolute required to get a good grade. It is also important to actually read what he assigns for quizzes, midterm, and final. Amazing and enjoyable professor, but prepare to work and TAKE NOTES.
Dr. Myrup is such an amazing professor. He is so knowledgeable, and he is engaging in lectures. He makes note-taking easy, and he is very approachable with questions. Also, his impressions are fantastic!
i have absolutely no interest in history but had to take one & drmyrup kept me so interested in every topic we covered. honestly the best teacher i have ever had. the midterm/final seems intimidating, but if you study & take notes during lecture, its absolutely nothing to worry about. 350 words isnt enough to say how good of a teacher drmyrup is!
By far the best professor I have had at UK. Lectures are interesting and he makes class very engaging! Grade consists of 2 papers, weekly quizzes from the readings, the midterm and the final. He is very approachable and seems like he genuinely cares about his students. Would recommend!
I dropped Mark Summers to take this class and I don't regret it, I love this class! I'm no genius (Business major btw), so don't worry about that. He's an amazing professor, gives great lectures, and cares about his students. He'll go out of his way to even call students! Take notes in class and read the weekly lectures and you should get an easy A
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OR PROFESSOR. You will have to read 100 pages of boring history every week. 2 hours to complete. Take a quiz over the reading which is graded hard. Lectures are horrible and impossible to take notes in. Test are impossible to study for and graded very hard. Worst class I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE IT.
He was amazing! I had some difficulties during the semester and he worked with me and helped me drop even when the deadline passed. He is very caring, and is ready to help if you are ready to put in the effort. Do keep in mind that you have to read a lot and take weekly quizzes. But, other than that I HIGHLY recommend him.
I genuinely loved this class so much. Myrup is a great professor and really tries to make his lectures interesting. PLEASE be nice to this man he is a national treasure. The recitations attendance taken through mini quizzes. Go to lectures or else you miss that material. Honestly a really easy class! Just go to lectures and recitations
This professor is really nice and you can tell he genuinely cares about what he's teaching. Be aware however that the exams are 50% of your grade. The exams are all writing questions.
Myrup is a nice professor who cares about his students and his work. However, there is reading assigned every week; you're graded on these for attendance in weekly recitation. My one warning is the final and midterm consist of an ID term section in which you must know 100 terms, he chooses 9 of them, and you have to write a paragraph on 4 of them.
Dr Myrup is awesome. His lectures are engaging and entertaining and he cares about his students a ton. I will say though, he does not upload any grades onto Canvas so you don't really know your grade. but he does pass back the weekly quizzes so that can always give you an idea.
Such a sweet soul! had to learn how to take his tests before i got a good grade, but very helpful if you ask for the help! have to go to class
THIS IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
Great teacher, he will be seated by the end of class because he will be running around the class so much. you can see that he really cares about the subject and students. Class is pretty hard, and notes are needed, and you will spend the night hours doing papers and having to read a lot in this class. He will give extensions on papers.
Best professor I've had. You can tell he loves what he does and cares about his students.
Go to lecture, and you'll pass.
Very kind and polite teacher who is easy to approach when have question. There is a lot of reading, but majority time you can go without it for the weekly quizzes. The weekly quizzes are easy and short and if you do bad on them you can retake it. Offers final and midterm review session as well
Professor Myrup is one of the best educators I have ever had the privilege to learn from. His lectures are always funny, well thought out, and interesting. There is a good amount of reading that you will take a short quiz on the next day though it's not a big deal. Besides that there was no homework. I strongly encourage everyone to take the class.
Lectures and notes are a MUST if you want to do good on the exams. Recitation is a big portion of your grade (there is a quiz every time). However if you could not attend or received a bad they are very good with make up quizzes (the TAs). This professor is so funny and interesting to listen to which made the class so enjoyable.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Myrup. He's so caring and respectful of every student he has. Short quiz every Friday but super easy if you do the readings for the week. He does take attendance and there's not very many grades so, it's super important to get that quiz grade every Friday. Lots of studying and reading but overall amazing class!!
Took his class ages ago, but never filled out a thing on here: he's my favorite prof at UK and im not even a history person; worked with me to get caught up, super respectful that students have lives outside class. all u do to pass is go to lecture and do the homework, he doesn't trick u on exams. dr myrup if you're reading this, thank you!!!
If I could rate higher than a 5, I would. Dr. Myrup is very energetic and passionate about history it made me excited to learn about it. He brings in tons of fun stories and examples to a class that could easily be hard or boring under different circumstances. It's very lecture heavy but definitely worth it.
Lots of reading. All you HAVE to do is show up for recitation. I recommend going to the lectures because that is the only way you'll get the material for the test. The tests aren't hard, but they are long. He's so funny and really cares about his students. You can contact him at ALL HOURS of the day/night. Not even kidding. Taking him again!
I LOVED DR. MYRUP! He's passionate about what he teaches and it shows. The way he teaches does take a second to get used to, but once you figure out how to take notes and keep up it's very understandable. Heavy on reading, but that's part of history. I feel like I would've struggled in this class if someone else taught it
He is the best history professor at UK. His true passion for history resonates with his students. Classes are reading-heavy, and you have weekly quizzes on the readings, but they are not strenuous. He brought homemade Brazilian food in for one of our last classes!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER, I LOVE DR. MYRUP!! Dr. Myrup is the most enthusiastic professor that I have ever had and he puts so much care into each lecture. He truly cares about both teaching and his students. You will have to put in effort and do the readings to pass, but it is so rewarding and not too hard to get an A. Lowkey cried on the last day haha.
goat.
super super nice guy, loves teaching very easy to talk to and converse with, very enthusiastic about history and what he is teaching very, do the readings, because his in class slides are just photos with little to no context, i had the one recitation where he was the teacher for it so the slides was just the same as lecture no added benefit.
I love Dr. Myrup. You have to try in his class but an A I attainable if you want it. He cares so much and has respect for his students which goes a long way. The best history professor I have ever had.
dr. myrup is an absolute GEM; you can tell from his lectures that he truly loves it. i talked to him about switching recitations, and he was happy to do it (alex was GREAT). if you go to class, you will do good on weekly quizzes in recitation, and then there is a midterm, paper, and final. it is hard, but if you do the work, you will succeed.
Dr. Myrup was immediately my favorite teacher. He makes Star Wars and Star Trek references that actually really help you understand the point of his lectures. He is so kind and truly cares about his students. You will have a quiz every week but they are easy 100's if you actually listen in all lectures and do the weekly readings.
Greatest of all time. This man is what every history teacher in every school should strive to be like. He's the most passionate teacher I've ever had a genuinely cares so deeply about his work and his students. Everyone should take one of his classes at least once while they're here.
Absolutely amazing professor, made the lectures very fun and interesting especially with his connections to pop culture. The recitations are easy, you just need to read, would recommend going to recitation because it can help if you are struggling with any of the material and you can get clarification. He is very easy to talk to and helpful.
Dr. Myrup makes his lectures very entertaining. He does talk very fast so taking notes can be stressful at times but his TAs will give you any missing info. This course is very material heavy so studying for the tests can be overwhelming but if you study, tests are an easy A. A quiz is taken every week in recitation to count as weekly attendance.
He was a super good professor and really engaging
Amazing teacher, would 100% take his class again. His lectures are great and he's very detailed. You have 2 papers and quizzes on the readings that you do. Tests are a detailed definition of vocab words and an essay portion.
He was ok he doesn't use PowerPoint unless its pictures and he talks fast so you have to try to keep up with him.
The material in this class is hard. Grading is relatively easy though but this may be dependent on the TA. It's a lot of reading, most of which is pretty confusing. Dr. Myrup is very nice and passionate about History. If you enjoy history you will love this class.
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had
Great professor!
Dr. Myrup is a cool guy. He is energetic and invested in the class. The work is not easy and you will be reading a ton. You need to study for exams and the paper is hard - brush up on how to do footnotes. Your grade will depend on how difficult your TA grades.
My favorite professor I've had so far. Your grades are heavily dependent on your TA and there are readings every week, but the lectures are very engaging and informative. He is energetic, fast talking, and passionate about history. The PowerPoints are just pictures but he has an outline available for every lecture. Overall great course!
Myrup is so passionate about history. His lectures are very fast with no visual aid which makes taking notes difficult. His recitations also require a lot of reading. However, if you do everything it is very easy to get an A. Also, he is extremely helpful if you visit his office hours and loves getting to meet his students.
Favorite professor so far. So funny and cares about his students, really passionate too. Grades relies very heavily on recitation quizzes but always pretty easy.
He is an absolutely incredible professor. The class is very lecture-heavy, but he provides outlines for them and is incredibly engaging. He's also very kind both in and out of class, including allowing extra time to complete the midterm. I definitely recommend taking one of his classes if you get the opportunity.
I really enjoy history so this class was super interesting. Myrup is a great teacher and is passionate about History. There is a quiz once a week based on readings assigned and lecture. There is an essay and mid term/ final. The test has vocabulary and a written essay. Overall, not bad the lectures are 50 minutes. Would take again
Mryup is a good lecturer. Though lectures are not mandatory attendance it's important to go to not fall behind and do well on the weekly quizzes in recitation and exams. There is also A TON of difficult reading. There are also weekly quizzes in recitation that are mostly about the readings.
Definitely a professor who loves his job. Even though history may not be the most exciting class, he definitely makes me happy to go to his lectures as well as it's very easy to take notes in his class. There are weekly readings which tend to be pretty long, but it's easy to split up and finish. 10/10 teacher.
He is awesome. His lectures are so captivating and he really makes history come to life. You can also tell he really cares about what he is teaching and that he wants you to do well. His TA's are also very nice and helpful. The recitations aren't bad, you just have to make sure to do the readings. Overall great class and a great professor.
AMAZING. He is literally so happy all the time its very refreshing, recitations help a lot and he extends deadlines for students, he genuinely cares about student success. take him if you have the chance! super nice guy and so funny and entertaining.
super nice professor. you have weekly readings you will have for this class. recommend having your recitation on a Friday so you have a full week to do the readings.
Dr. Myrup is an amazing professor. His lectures are well organized and interesting. He extends deadlines and is easy to contact. He is also very knowledgeable about the content and makes it easy to understand. There are somewhat lengthy readings for recitation, but the quizzes are pretty easy. Overall, I would recommend taking his classes.
He was an amazing professor who gives engaging and interesting lectures. He is pretty funny and very caring, often postponing deadlines for papers when students need it! This class has roughly one quiz a week, two papers, a midterm, and a final exam. My only complaint about this class was that the grading was not put into canvas until the very end.
Dr. Myrup is really nice and always has an upbeat attitude. The class is very lecture- and recitation-heavy, with weekly readings and quizzes that refer to the lectures and readings of the week. Overall, great teacher.
Awesome professor who is very clear and gives exact guidelines for every assignment. Lectures twice a week plus recitation. Expect lots of weekly reading and quizzes, but he gives guiding questions. The midterm and final were a decent amount of material, but he provided all past lectures. He is kind, funny, and very understanding.
