He has online tests that you do on weekends with an unlimited amount of time. He's always willing to do one on one, but his class isn't easy.
I wasn't aware that most of the class was online and you HAVE to pay attention to the online info because teacher doesn't give all of that info in class.
He explains very well, but you need to come to class to do well on the exams.
Mr Torres spends the first five miutes of every class talking about irrelevant B.S. He does go over homework, which is good b/c the homework rarely has anything to do with the days lesson. I hated this class, he is a pain.
he think he knows it all. and doesnt want to help
Holy crap Ive never heard more about how much Florida sucks and the west is better...horrible teacher, hard to understand and a real cocky jerk to boot
Mr. Torres is a very opinionated individual that expresses his political opinions every day in class whether they be true or not (most of the time it was not). If you feel like listening to conservative jargon instead of learning the math he's your man.
he's the worst teacher ever. he doesnt explain well and if you arent good in math, you're screwed. he's an ok guy but a bad example ofa math teacher.whenever id ask for help he wouldnt help, but when another group of girls asked, he was there in a flash!
He is the worst! He spends 30 of each class talking about politics, how florida sucks, how gainesville sucks, and the weather! He lost exams and doesn't even put assignments on the syllabus! TERRIBLE!!!!!!!
This man is a bad teacher. I have to go to class, watch lectures online, and I still get C's and D's on his test. He says that the book nor the online information can help you for his test, only he can. I hate this man. If your a **** like him, then take him.
This teacher was unhelpful.
When will the college wise up and fire this man? If students don't voice their feelings appropriately then the college will never know how terrible he really is. How can we get this man out?!
Isn't a helpful teacher. He spends 10 min talking about being mexican, politics, and how he hates hot weather. Then says the clock is 10 min slow and makes u stay xtra 10 min, after he wasted the 1st 10 min in the 1st place.Spends some classes making u listen to his plans for politics.Breath is kickin.
Horrible teaching skills. Struggling in other math classes now because of this professor
He lets you know his political opinions nearly everyday. The class was very easy for me, but I could see how if I needed help, he would fail to do so. The class was pretty boring and he shares the blame. All you do in class is go over homework questions for a few weeks and then take a test.
He sucks very bad teacher don't take him. He gave me a F because he made a mistake with my lab, so i had to take time the next semester to get it striaghted out. DON"T TAKE HIM!!
probably one of the worst teachers i've had. lectures are horrible!!! he tends to ramble on about random stories. if you want to learn anything, dont take this teacher!
This professor spends too much time on his soapbox and not enough time teaching what we're there for -- math!
I have never, in my whole life, experienced something as horrible as his teaching. If asking homework questions he has to analize it before deciding whether he will do it or not; meaning he will say oh this is too hard or okay its easy enough. PLEASE..He is rediculous.
I personally had no problem with this teacher. I took his course online. If math comes easy to you than you will have no problem getting an A or B
he is a good teacher, he has interesting teaching methods but is very understandable. his sotries help you stay focused. do online hw and quizzes and you should do fine.
he sucks
His teaching methods are unclear. He actually sucks as a teacher. I liked math until i had his class
I usually do well in math, but not with this instructor. Besides arriving late to class EVERY time, he gets on a soapbox with his opinions. He doesn't give out any practice problems. He's not committed to teaching. If you are very strong in Math you'll be okay, but not if you need help.
If you want to listen to someone as if they were on talk radio about there opions take this class with this professor. If you want to learn about math take someone else. I found this professor to be full of**** and he doesn't help much at all. I think that SFCC should take care of this guy.
This guy couldn't teach to save his life. We had a substitute for a week and that is the only learning I accomplished this semester in his class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is boring and does not present information well.
This guy teaches on the side so he shows up to class thinking he can breeze through a mac1105 class and doesnt get deep into the material. Not very clear with his explanations. Not a very inspiring teacher.
He sucks!!!! If you want to know everything about construction or his kids, your good. But if you want to learn, take someone else. He is the hardest and worst teacher I have ever had!!!!
he is the most horrible teacher i have had in my entire life!!! if you want to know about anything other than math this is the class for you. he explains things badly. He just all aroung sux!
He is a weird guy. We did a report on Global Warming. ITS A MATH CLASS! Doesnt grade homework so basically grade reflects on the tests. Isnt a very good teacher. All I have to say is that I better pass!!! I learned more about politics that I did algebra..Sucks!
This teacher is Hard BUT he tells you everything you need to know. He knows what he's talking about and that is all that matters. So, what does it matter if he throws some more info in there for his own enjoyment. If you pass his class, you'll pass any math class at SFCC. I would take him again in a heart beat.
This guy is a first rate jerk, talks about his kids and construstion and teaches like it should be as easy for you as it is for him...THATS WHY YOU ARE THE TEACHER
When he stays on topic (only about 50% of the time), he seems to assume that the student knows the subject already. Instead, he should be assuming that we DON'T know the material and teach accordingly. My advice would be to avoid this teacher at all costs. I know I will from now on.
Alwyas talks about his roofing business. but i never went to class, so that spared me the torment
skip this guy, he arrives late, bullsh**s for about 20 mins then assigns homework. the teaching he actually gets around to is so brief you won't even realize he threw some math into his bragging about his business.
Avoid. I walked out of his class within 30 minutes on the very first day. He is a classic case of a guy who obviously could not hack it in the real world. Has a hard time spelling simple 4 letter words. Brags about self to assure him of his worthy existance. Claims to have once been a rocket scientist (right..) Uses sarcasm due to lack of wit.
Professional Loser. Came to SFCC to feel good about his failed existance. This class is more a lecture in the obvious aspects of succeeding as a student, aspects he never quite got. Failed out of H.S., claims to have studied rocket science at Auburn (failed that one too), now teaches at SFCC to feel mighty amoung us students. Too much Bul*s*it.
i thought he was a good overall professor.
SUCK...DONT TAKE HIM
Terrible teacher! I got an A+ in Algebra but I had to drop this class because I was going to fail it if I didn’t. No help whatsoever. He is vague and doesn’t explain well. Don’t waste your time with him or this class.
Undoubtedly the WORST teacher i have EVER had. I seriously want this guy fired. I asked him a question and he said he wouldn't help me. Talked about students in front of me calling them "retarded" and "stupid." VERY unprofessional and VERY oppinionated. Brags about himself EVERYDAY. We don't care! Just teach us Math!!
His is pretty good
Had trouble with how class taught. Most teaching is webct.
professor torres is very clear and easy going. He relates math topics to everyday life. He's very good at what he does
he never teaches! all he does is put his lectures on line so he doesn't have to actually do anything. it was very hard to learn from him and i don't recommend taking his class. you might as well take the on line class cuz it's the same exact thing!
not a good teacher
he is not a very good teacher all he does is talk about himself and he is very boring! he has the wrong idea about teaching he doesnt like formula he believes you should be able to figure out something with out memorizing very useful formulas! i got a good grade but he was not a good teaher at all!!!!!!!!!
After reading other ratings I see I'm not alone. This guy is so into petting his own ego. Tests reflect NOTHING we have done in class. Wastes time in class talking about useless information, mostly about himself, and it's different everyday. Obviously has problems with the truth. Not informative, have learned nothing about how to apply calculu
the most annoying teacher i have ever had, he makes you not want to go to class. i am really good in math and i had trouble with him, he doesnt explain enough because he is always talking about his biker brothers that are in gangs and why the bricks in the road are a waste of money, he has a new problem every day
Very high expectaions. But you will be prepared for the next class.
Just took finance and every thing he focused on was used. Also that was the hardest sections in finance for every one else
He gives pretests. You can take them as many times as you want, but you get different questions each time. But if you do them 2 or 3 times you will easly get an A
Just do the HW and the pretests. Easy A.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. To be honest, never take this class with him. if he were the only teacher at SFCC, I would not mind being in college for as long as it may take to get another teacher for this class.
I made an A but unless you are a math/science major who ALREADY understands the subject, don't take his class. His teaching method is like a review session where he acts as if he should just be refreshing your memory instead of actually teaching mathematical techniques! The worst math teach I have ever had, and it is my MAJOR!
His pretests realy helped me pass the class. If you do them all and all the HW you should have no trouble in this class.
If you looked up "pompous" in the dictionary, you would literally find this man's face next to it. Sososo arrogant. He knows his stuff, yes, but cannot & does not explain anything thoroughly. He rants on about nothing for 20 minutes. Go to class every day & study as if your life depends on it.
This man is extremely arrogant and he cannot teach very well. I did not learn anything in his class all semester. Don't take this class....please
Material to study for tests was a mystery. For the final, he gave our Cal I class a Survey of calculus exam....the wrong exam. Very egotistical human being.
He is the worst teacher I've had at santa fe. He cares more about expressing his personal life with his students than he does teaching. I am terrible at math and he was of no help to me at all, so honestly I recommend you NOT take him!
Your final grade is based on a series of pop quizzes (worst part about it since attendance wasn't mandatory) pop quizzes couldnt be made up
all in all torres isn't exactly the pompous professor everyone makes him out to be. Although I do doubt his teaching skills at time, he did cut some slack on his students. His teaching style is different, yet it definitely possible to pass his class.
I took his class online last semester and he was fantastic. the notes were well organized (he had online lectures for each topic). The class was a breeze for me. He was very clear and easy to follow. and he prepared you well for the tests.
Worst teacher in the world!! not helpful at all. Going to class is pointless cause you don't learn a thing
This class wasnt hard nor crazy to understand it is just the way it is presented that makes it terrible. Prof. Torres is nothing less than an egocentric extreme republican. No teaching skills at all. Do not take if you can get by anyone else. He is just not someone to respect
Its not so much he is a bad teacher, he basically thinks anyone that is not in Calc 1 or higher is a erject. He is an extremly smart man, but his people skills, ehh.. not so much. Take him if you are already really good in math, if you need help or actually want to learn, take someone else. All in all Pointless!
Very nice guy. He's unorganized and just teaches whatever he thinks is important at the time, but it works for him. He's very smart, and still friendly. HW is optional, as is attendance, and he gives great review sheets before tests. I'm looking to take him again this semester
This guy is a joke and a waste of time.. He does not care about you and is not helpful when you have questions....It feels like you are interrupting him when you do ask a question...He is very disorganized... Stay away from him.....
Pretty tough, goes quick and kind of mean. but he gives reviews right before the exams that the exams are taken directly from, so those help alot! Study alot if you want to do well, calc is tough in general.
Amazing teacher, really shows you how to apply your new math skills. I went and met with him at his office hours and he had absolutely no problem with spening a lot of time with me.I will be taking another class with him if he is available
This was the worst teacher evr! If u want to learn step by step do not get into his class. I have never done bad in Math until I got into this class....The most worst teacher ever!!! I would not recommend 2 anyone! No extra credit, no retakes, no make-ups, and the study guides for test are very inaccurate!
Eric Torres is absolutely the worst math teacher I've ever had. I have never done poorly in math and now I might fail his class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, HE IS AN AWFUL TEACHER!
One time I was broke down on the side of the rode..and he walked by me and smiled.. does that tell you about how good of a guy he is? His classes are ridiculus.. he looks like a turtle and he teaches about the ratio of everyday drownings to ice cream. Withdraw while you still can.. Straight jibber jabber and you WILL FAIL
DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE! By far the best professor. When you walk in he talks about himself for about 15 minutes. Then goes over any questions for hw. You recieve a packet, which contains the EXACT same questions that are on the test! VERY EASY! All around good guy, he's just lookin out for number 1 cant blame the guy.If you want an A I would take him
Solid teacher, Relates math problems to everyday situations. Opinionated? yes but thats his thing. Gives great study packets and i got a better grade in his class than i did intermidiate algebra. Study the study packets and you'll do fine.
All jokes aside, this guy is by far the easiest guy at santa fe for calc 1. First day he will give u a test packet for test 1, if you only study the test packet you will get a B on the test, if not an A. If you get lower than a B in his class, than you gotta b a dumba** straight up. He knows his stuff perfectly and helps you out a lot if u need it.
Excellent professor. Teaches calculus extremely well. He also provides real world applications using mathematics. Study his pre-test packets, know how to solve the problems and you'll do well. The bottom line is that you must study to get a good grade.
Great Teacher. You get as good a grade as you want. H/W and attendance NOT mandatory!:) But if you need help go to class and ask questions, gives GREAT study packets, no BS!
If you are good at math, this class is the easiest A ever. If you can't do math, find another professor because this one is useless. The Upsides: Attendance is not mandatory. We received a packet with the test questions on it about two weeks before the test. The downside: you can tell Torres doesn't want to be there. Try to find another professor.
Okay...this teacher is nuts. He likes to talk a lot about himself and he is strange. But I have never known a math teacher that wasn't these things. BOTTOM LINE: this teacher is great. He will teach you what you need to know. Do the test packets and you're sure to get an A. Attendance is not mandatory but a must if you wish to do well.
Well, Torres is Torres. He is a very different individual, you either hate him or love him. His class is was an easy one because if you do everything you are supposed to, then you earn your A. Easy as that. He is very opinionated, but 1ce u can get past that, u would be fine. Attend class!! Students fail due to lack of participation!
he gives u the same exact questions on a packet that will be on the test for the most part. final replaces all missed tests. curves about 10 points. alot of HW that u dont turn in but needed. he wishes he worked for NASA and loves to talk about his knowledge but overall hes alright.
You definitely need to come to class. He often goes off subject and talks about politics but most of the time he made me laugh. he's very serious about participation and studyin. study your packets and read ur book and you should do fine.
This is a horrible teacher. The class consists of him telling you what he thinks of things and trying to show you that he knows how to do things mathematically that you can't do. I regret taking him so much.
At first I couldnt stand him because he is very arrogant and talks about his opinions a lot. However, I got good grades on his test because he grades really easy. He is easy to talk to when you need help. I took him twice because of how he grades. He gives you review packets that are almost identical to the test.
He teaches you the math and not how to do it on the calculator so if youve been taught that way stay away. He likes to get off topic and discuss political things or things he would do to change the govt but it is amusing. good teacher but hard to stay up with all the work. Not an easy A
I took the online class. He is good at teaching the practical applications of calculus for business. Very fair grader and helpful for homework/lab questions. Like most teachers: do the work, make an effort, and you'll do fine. I reccommend Mr. Torres for MAC2233.
I HATE HIM. i know thats harsh, but i cant go to class because i cannot stand to be in his presence. he only talks about how amazing he is at math and how his colleagues are useless. He's horrible. Also he says he gives half credit and grades moderate, but its horrible. Honestly, dont take him.
The class is hard but Torres makes it impossible. If you have a good understanding of calculus before hand you may do okay - idk. His online section is a joke: there are no postings, no online discussions and nothing for assistance. The online classroom is intended to be a substitute for a real classroom. He uses it as a place to post his lectures.
Great teacher, he tells you like it is and does give you a lecture about everyday. However; grow up and do the work. He gives you the study guide and his test questions come straight from it. You have any questions from the packet, he will go over it and show you how to do it. I have to recommend him. Don't take class lightly and study.
It was previously stated, Mr Torres is a know-it-all. He better be, he's a teacher and I think he's a great one. Yes he lectures and talks quite a bit, but if you pay attention and listen you just might learn something, he helps you see how to apply math to the real world. His packets are extremely helpful and all you have to do is STUDY!
I stopped going to his class because I couldn't handle listening to his rambling. He acts like he knows everything, and pretends he's never wrong. He rambles about how calculators are ruining America's ability to do math properly, then turns around and uses a calculator for everything!! He was the most annoying teacher I've ever had. Don't take him
I had Mr. Torres for College Algebra in the summer. He is not the best teacher and is definitely a know it all, but his class is easy. He gave review sheets before the test that were basically the test reworded. If you can figure out how to do those, then you will pass. I got an A.
There is a reason why torres was the only teacher still available 2 days before school started.. he is HORRIBLE. He thinks he knows everything & only accepts his way of doing things. he spends more time criticizing others and sharing his own opinions than he does actually teaching. he is not helpful & teaches like we all have no brain. AVOID!!!
Okay, I'm taking Torres for fall A so I figure I'd grind it out. He is so terrible and going to class has been so hard because I'm sick of hearing his stupid analogies where math and real life intersect...He does not just put problems on the board and show us how to do them which is all I want from a math teacher. hes cocky and shouldn't be.
I took him for an A term class but instead of teaching he just spent most of the time telling us how stupid we were for taking a shortened class and trying to blow our minds with how "smart" he is. Unless you have the patience of a monk, don't take his class.
Best math teacher at SFC!!!!!!!!!! HE gives you practices tests that are exactly like the actual test which means you do not even need to study as long as you do the practice test. He curves incredibly, you cannot fail this class. True, he talks a lot about himself but it is the price I guess you have to pay for an easy A. I love prof Torres.
Horrible! Do not take him!
Had Prof. Torres for 2 semesters now. He's sarcastic and opinionated, but can teach math like nobodys business. Always offers to have students ask him questions during office hours if they don't understand, so it's not like he'll just watch you fail. I recommend him if you don't want a class with a lot of fluff.
Easiest class ever. If you need a refresher before college algebra take this. He'll come off very rude and arrogant the first day, but it dies away eventually. HW is not a part of your grade either. 3 tests, 3 in-class labs and the final are your entire grade in this class. Can be kinda funny on some days and then annoying on others.
He is realistic, if you don't like that then.....you won't like his class.
I don't like to speak ill about anyone but, if you already know math like your know your language then, this class is for you. If not, consider another professor.
He is very arrogant and thinks that he is above all, however, he does know what he is talking about and does show how it applies to the real world. You must work around his large ego!
If you're a patient person, then this class will be easy, and at times, fun. He's pretty clear when he teaches. Take what he says with a grain of salt and don't take anything personally. The tests are multiple choice and almost impossible to fail.. Labs are simple, no (mandatory) homework, the hardest part of the class by far is flattering his ego.
He was without doubt the worst Professor I have ever had, he was arrogant and too busy talking about himself to take the time to teach well. If you want to pass a math class take another professor, not Torres!
Torres was very into himself. He knows what he is doing and does spend the time to help you outside of class, but I was lost the entire time in class.didnt give the class much time to ask questions. Take good notes if u take this class and the tests are not multiple choice.Kinda hard so you have to study a lot. homework not manditory.
I took this class online. Torres is a great teacher, very organized, and extremely helpful. He is very clear and as long as you follow directions you will get a good grade.
Very hard clsss, I got out with a B, but I had to study 5 hours or more for each test. Torres is Hard to follow, kind of arrogant but he will try to help. Spends class time talking about irrelevant subjects.
His class is very difficult. He did spend 20 minutes of class ranting about nonsense that didn't relate to math at all. However, he has videos, links to sites, and an enormous amount of outside help and one-on-one help available to students. I wish I could've learned more in the classroom, but I'm glad he had other options out there. Work HARD!!!!
He is pretty self righteous, and close minded, but if you just ignore that then hes a good teacher. i got an A in that class and barely attended. If you show that you care he will really help you out. Just do your HW, and the study guides are practically the same thing as the exams. I recommend him
I took the online course. The lectures are from a classroom setting. Everything is plan out, and there are no surprises. The test is just like the quizes, and the quizes are just like the homework. I emailed him question and he was very prompt in answering them. He is a great teach and makes Calc easy to learn. If you want a good grade take him!!!!
Bad book, but he did the best out of it. Really helpful in office hours.
If you are coming out of a math class and do not have an A do not take this professor. He will not make learning the material easy or understandable and he gets pleasure off of seeing how much he knows versus how much you know...How sad!!! he also makes Algebra more complicated. He does not write notes and does not review work before assigning it.
Torres is an awesome teacher. He comes off as tough but if you meet him outside of class for office hours he is always helpful. Do not take him if you are lazy, and expect the teacher to just spoon feed you everything. My last teacher sucked is not an excuse. He gives great advice and has great study tips! I wish I could take him for Calc1!
Great professor. Ability to make things extremely complicated so easy.
Good teacher, tries to come off as a bit of a prick, but entertaining once you get used to him. Go to office hours if you are having trouble and he is very helpful.
He lectures about himself for most of class and how he's better than most people and how he could do other people's jobs better than them. Then, goes over some homework but many people are still lost because he does not like to teach exactly how to do things but the concepts behind them. I wouldn't reccommend.
Freshman taking this class is going to be a struggle. I needed to realize that I had to spend time doing schoolwork after that I got my grades up to flying colors. Torres is a tough guy and a true mathematician.
This is not the teacher to take. He barley teaches at all, and doesn't care if you undestand and get letf behind. Daily talks about how he is better then other and doesn't care about puting people down. Lied about withdraws hurt your GPA so people wouldn't leave his class because of his bad teaching style. a teach who lies shouldn't teach at all.
Has a different teaching method. If you do not like/understand math he will give you a new way to look at it. But your either going to like it or hate it. Choose carefully. Lots of word problems.
Go to office hours or you will have a difficult time. You need to have this MASTERED, because he expects it, and his test will clearly show not if you know it but if you know it like he does and as quickly just sayin. I dropped an took Calc 1 back in high school...
This is how a typical class goes: 9:00-945: talks about psychology 9:45- puts a math problem on the board, says a few things about it. He ends each statement with a yes. 9:50- Tells the class to watch the videos he posted online, every video is from youtube, he isn't on any of them. You're basically teaching yourself.
He's a decent teacher and an interesting person, but his long, self-centered, and repetitive tangents at the beginning of class get old very fast. If math is a strong area for you, his class will be a breeze, but think twice about taking Torres if you're not a good math student.
He isn't as bad as people say he is, while he does brag often at least it keeps you interested in some of the things he talks about. He's a great teacher if you visit his office hours because he will sit down and talk about everything you need help with. While I wouldn't want to take his class again, I didn't really mind it too much.
I took pre-calc with him online and thought he was a good teacher. All of his videos explained the material very well. His tests were like his practice tests & quizzes. He responded to all of my emails and was helpful. I hope to be able to take him for trig.
His online class is very straight forward. Extremely easy (seriously). You get 2 attempts on quizzes so you'll always get 100 and Labs are easy. Tests are just 15 questions and you have 2 of them. The final is 20 questions. All tests and final are online multiple choice. Highly recommend taking him!
spends first fifteen minutes of every class talking about how awesome he and his daughter are. Mentions at least once a week how he used to do this math in middle school. Doesn't clearly explain how to do the equations.
Mr. Torres did generally begin the class with a spiel about his personal life and his opinions, but nonetheless he was very knowledgeable and provided more than enough resources needed for the class. Excellent teacher if you take the class legitimately
He is ok but doesnt know how to teach well. hard to understand and doesnt explain things well. talks about him and his daughter to much like there above everybody else.
Professor Torres is the type of teacher who claims he really wants every student to pass his class, and he follows through with that. However, if you don't like snobby don't take his class, he is very conceited and spends a lot of the class time talking about his personal life and how great he is.
Mr. Torres's class is easy as long as you come to class and do exactly what he says for homework and on the practice test. So, if you like to miss class and not do homework online for MyMath Lab then his class is not for you.
Professor Torres is an excellent professor. He's knowledgeable and is very willing to help his students if they need help. He's a no-nosense guy, but as long as you show up to class and do the work, you'll do well in the class. I definitely recommend taking his class.
I didn't enjoy this class. The teacher talks fast and it's hard to understand his teaching. Not a good experience for me.
He's ok, I didn't like him at first, but I got used to him. College Algebra will be hard for those who don't like math, or aren't good at it, and this with all professor. This guy has exam reviews, and a one week final review. I do recommend taking him, helpful and fair. Tough grader though.
Mr. Torres was awful. Beside the fact that he is full of himself, and really annoying- he CANNOT teach. The whole class is spent talking about himself and not what were supposed to be learning. Class is a waste of time. I am retaking this class with a better teacher, and am doing really well. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Currently taking this Prof. He's RIDICULOUSLY full of himself. Always talks about himself and how much money he makes, which takes up most of class. Then he quickly goes through a lesson and i have yet to learn anything from him. Wish i could switch out!!!! I wouldn't recommend this prof if you're not very good at math.
Very self absorbed, he has his own agenda, and he loves to see students struggle.
At first i did not like him; He does talk a lot about himself but you get used to it & hes pretty funny. Teaches very thoroughly w/ online videos to look at as well & makes sure all students understand the material before moving on. Took him MWF @ 10 but attendance isn't necessary. I would recommend him! The other rates are ridiculous!
While Prof. Torres is certainly not lacking in self-confidence, he is not nearly as bad as the previous posters have said. I thought he was a great professor. He is not, however, going to hold your hand or take time to learn your name. He expects you to be a college student. I'm glad I took him; I learned a lot.
This guy really knows his stuff. If you truly want to learn algebra, I'd highly recommend. At first, he doesn't seem approachable, but he is helpful.
This teacher was useless, unprepared, inaccessible and curt/rude when finally responding. Work does not prepare you for how Department final is organized/set up. Paper final with no paper review tests or tests to help prepare. put up work last minute and late. dates were never up to date ahead of time and often had wrong dates for tests. AVOID HIM.
Prof. Torres is a God-send. I am horrible at math, and he was willing to post videos, meet in person, and offered help to clarify material. If you put the effort in, and he sees that you are doing so, you Will pass. I suggest using all 3 attempts on Quizzes, strive for 100% on HW, and communicate with him. I am glad I did. I passed!
He was not a good teacher he tried, but he talked about himself way to much.He didn't explain math very good. He would re open assignments for me when I asked for extra help he said to do better on the next assignments.
if you are good at math and are familiar with the material not too bad. i learned more from math xl than him. notes are not the neatest and not very clear. i took this spring B, if you check online every day fairly easy to keep up with work. take someone else if you can
Quick to respond to emails. I took this class spring B so the pace was fast. Given the time constraints of a shorter semester vs the material covered Mr. Torres did as well as you can do. Strive for 100% on quizzes and HW. Repetition is key. Must stay on top of this class, no room for slacking. Take on campus if you struggle with math.
The material was difficult for me but Professor Torres emailed quickly to my questions and was very helpful. I took it in the 6 week course and it was very fast paced.
Its like not even having a teacher. Did not setup the online MathXL part of the class correctly for me causing 90% of the assignments to show up as due on the last day of class. Reported problems with MathXL to him three times per tech support and he never fixed anything. Replies to any messages are short and rude.
Torres. I took the 6 week online class. It is a teach yourself math class with tutorials being online YouTube videos. He will respond to your emails quickly but if your need help in math you better not take this class or get a tutor. Worst online class I have ever taken and highly do not recommend him.
Not easy. TONS of studying! Hours of hw & quizzes to master the material for the tests. He helped bump our grades a lil. You probably will utilize math lab on campus. You should at least if you want to do WELL. Show me an example is your best friend. Get ahead & stay ahead in this class! You CANNOT afford to slack @ all in this class. Earn all pts!
Torres was probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. He does his part as a teacher but his attitude is horrible. I found that every time I reached out to him for help, he would provide it but in a very condescending way. He has a way of making his students feel small. I wouldn't recomend him unless he is your last resort.
NO instruction whatsoever, you have to teach yourself everything. youtube videos are posted with homework but often don't even pertain to the questions asked. not helpful at all, highly recommend not taking course online either.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Lazy, slow to respond, rude when he does respond. Quizzes and tests are different than homework. Its a teach yourself class. HW all say their due last day of class until a few days before. Gives wrong exam dates. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
This class is tough. He gives lots of homework, which is good because it's great practice for the exams. His lectures are all YouTube videos and he does not give great feedback. To pass, you'll definitely need a tutor if you're not a great math student. Keep up with the work & you'll probably pass this class.
Took this class online over Summer B, not the easiest class but Professor Torres is really responsive & helped me when I was confused. Doesn't really post lectures, so it's up to you to read the book and follow all the work. Hefty workload on web-assign, but the tests are the same questions as the homework so you basically just have to study that.
His courses are teach-yourself. Unless you are already about 3 years beyond the class you're taking and already fully understand the course, do not waste your time or money taking his class. His teaching style negates the term "teaching", as he does not and is condescending, as one already has to be proficient in the subject to be able to pass.
Can you teach yourself math? Do you already know advanced algebra? Are you good at taking a test on material you've not been taught in class? Then, you have a chance at earning a shiny "D" in this class! Seriously, this is a self-taught course. Tests/quizzes do NOT correlate to what was taught during the Lecture and is all new material.
Took this class online. Simple enough, not many lectures or videos so you have to learn the material yourself. Lots of homework- counts towards your grade. A few quizzes, 2 labs, 2 tests and a final. Quiz and test questions come directly from the homework (the exact problems). Easy to get an A if you do all of the homework.
I took his MAC1105 online class, and it had a good amount of resources for learning the material. As with most online classes, you have to put work in to teach yourself the material, but the videos that are provided are extremely helpful. My Pearson provides an excellent website for learning math, which Torres utilizes. He was a helpful professor.
Professor Torres is a very good teacher. I took him for MAC1105 online. Take the time to watch the lectures and you will be in good shape. He does gives labs to complete which seem annoying but are good practice for the final. Stay on top of things and you can make an A in this class no problem.
100% teach yourself. Prof. Torres is awful! If you email to ask for help regarding a question don't expect to hear back from him. If you do, prepare for a condescending response. He says the test and quiz questions come straight from the homework, that's a LIE!! Video lectures often have nothing to do with assignments! Worse class ever! AVOID HIM!
Last day of the course, and I have an A in his online class. Prof Torres is not bad at all! The resources are out there people. If you don't understand something, look for resources elsewhere instead of getting frustrated! I watched plenty of Khan Academy videos and it clarified whatever I didn't understand. Put in time and you'll see a difference.
Got a B and I'll take it. The webassign website provided easy to follow videos and practice questions for certain problems. Prof. Torres was also quick to respond whenever I had a question. However, it would have been helpful if he put our grades on canvas, or at least updated them more often on webassign. :)
So I'm just going to say it is an online class so expect what comes with an online class but when signing up understand that there will be assignments due a couple of days after the class starts and the only extension you will get if you are busy with the other classes getting settled in is for 50% of the grade if you can manage that don't worry.
Easy A if you used the online textbook resources and Prof Torres' lecture videos. Completing all of the homework gives your grade a boost, while helping you pass the quizzes, exams, and labs with flying colors. Finished with a 100% A. Keep on top of things and you'll pass.
I took this class Spring B online. The content of the class isn't terribly hard but you have to teach yourself for the most part. He posts a few videos but they aren't super helpful. Is very responsive to emails if you need help. Test are exactly like the homework and quizzes so if you study those and take the time to teach yourself you'll get an A
This man should not be teaching
This class had an insane amount of homework. This class is 100% self taught. He posted a few videos each section but they are useless and didn't pertain to homework assignments. He did respond quickly via email and pushed due dates back a few times. I would only recommend if you are excellent in math.
I took him for calc 1 online. Good breakdown of grade (grade is not based mainly on tests). Would send me emails with step-by-step work for problems I didn't understand. Flexible on office hours. It was an online class, so I expected to be more independent while working through the book. Lots of HW for lots of practice which is what I prefer.
The class is over on Aug. 14 but I have been doing extremely well in this class. The exams are just like the home work and quizzes so if you do those your solid for the test. He post videos but they are some what helpful. He responds within 24hrs to your concerns. He isn't a bad professor just wasn't really active. Class was easy so far.
I took this class in the summer before freshman year of college. Luckily, within a few days of being introduced into the course, I found it easy, but you need to watch the videos and actively strive to understand the material. Prof Torres' online class is excellent, but be sure to put in the work!
I took this class online. This teacher was great. He kind of responds late to emails, but responds as soon as he can. He has online group studies before almost every test. He really tries to help. I should have done all of my homework, then I would have gotten an A.
Supper online help during office hours! Even gives EC to use them.
I took this class online. The course was mostly self taught. There were instructional videos, but they didn't always pertain to the material we were working on. Lots and lots of homework. Lots. Unless you're great with math, I would take this course in a classroom.
Coming from a straight A student. Worse professor I've ever had, worse class. It's all self-taught, very little instructions. Tests are on material not covered. Submit labs that are never graded. Overall, would not recommend.
Does not return emails and just assigns homework and the rest you have to figure out for yourself
I would never recommend this teacher
One of the worst classes I've ever taken
Does not communicate about anything
By far the worst math teacher I have ever had
Save yourself the stress and do not take a course with this professor, absolutely terrible instructor
You have to teach yourself everything and he does not respond to emails when you have a question or can't figure something out. Stay away from this teacher
I recommend taking and any other math professor besides this one
Worst teacher I have ever had
I have been a Straight-A student my whole life and take school very seriously, let me just say that this is by far the worst professor/teacher I have ever had dating all the way back to 6th grade
WORST TEACHER EVER
Avoid this professor at all costs!
Since I took the course online, I was not able to attend any of his lectures but I do not feel that hindered me in the slightest. He regularly uploaded videos of multiple different lectures onto Pearson's MyMathLab and when I still was not understanding the topic he was willing to attend personal video meetings to explain the topic more.
I give him the benefit of the doubt by saying maybe it's just me, but based on other reviews that doesn't seem to be the case: he is confusing. The online course is disorganized and the lectures he posts leave a lot to desire. I used youtube more often. Redeeming qualities he has are giving extra credit, dropped low scores, and willingness to help.
He is really frustrating and will only take things if they are done his way. The syllabus was for a different semester and class (he didnt notice). The ONLY great thing about this class was that he gave us all the questions for the test beforehand. Its a tricky class though - proceed with caution.
Professor Torres was a very confusing professor, it seems like he is very uncertain about what he does and also seems like he doesnt like his job. i would not recommend taking his class unless you are very good at math. not a reliable teacher in my opinion from what i went through.
A terrible professor. Completely disorganized, and yet extremely rigid when it comes to students. You won't learn math as much as you'll just learn how to respond to specific questions, but then you'll encounter completely different questions that you were never exposed to. Also he's got a smug, condescending attitude.
This professor made learning the material easy by having short videos to watch. There is a lot of work to do but it is worth it to get a lot of practice and do good on the tests.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He actually cares about his students and wants them to do well in this course. Responds pretty quickly to emails and is overall great.
Mr. Torres is a great teacher and helped me understand college algebra. I struggle with math but I've gotten A's on each exam because he gives practice tests that are EXACTLY like the exams. He gives tutoring sessions for up to 1 hour each day. I will also be taking him next semester for intro to survey calc.
Professor Torres was great! He was always willing to help students and responds very fast to emails. I would definitely take his class again. He provides 2 different practice tests to study off of for each exam and they are almost identical, he also gives partial credit on tests!
Good class, since it was a summer course it was quick but still well taught.
He will help if you ask, just ask.
