Erin O'Connor (a man) teaches one night section of Earth 101---Astronomy Lecture, and sometimes the 1-unit lab course Earth 102 Tests are all multiple choice. Review the correct answers before the final and you should do fine. There are a couple of videos to watch. He is nice and helpful. Go to class and you'll do fine. Drop-dead gorgeous!
GREAT CLASS!! This is my best class this semester, I never know I am so crazy about observingthe night sky until I take he's class. He is a very easy grader and this lab class just rocks~ I highly recommend you taking his class, you'll have a fun time!!
His lab section is easy and fun. A very chill, laid back guy. He cares a lot about attendence and tardiness, so don't mess that up. If you have to take a lab (and most everyone does) he's the guy to go to.
Cute, nerdy teacher! haha Very easy teacher who doesn't ever like to hurt anyone's feelings. The class is mostly attendance based so if you go you'll get an A. He goes over all of the quiz material right before the quiz (meaning, he shows constellations and star names right before). Easy and fun and nice.
Wonderful teacher. He really wants you to succeed. I hated science (english major) but Oconnor actually makes it interesting. Just show up. If you show up, you get an A; easy as that. Well, some studying also. He curves and gives lots of extra credit. Enjoy!
Erin's astronomy lab was pretty easy and fun. Attendance is required and there are telescope and constellation quizzes that are fairly easy. Try taking the lecture with him because i heard he was the easiest earth 101 prof.
Erin is a nice guy, U MUST ATTEND CLASS THOUGH b/c ur grade will drop. he gives you a freebee absence so whoever complains about his policy must be stupid b/c its only 10 classes and of course thats how a lab has to operate. He's a dork, but can be funny and the class is pretty easy just show up!
This teacher is awesome. He makes astronomy really interesting and fun. He's a pretty goofy guy, and he always tells lame jokes that are pretty funny sometimes. The class takes a little studying, but not too much. He tries his best to help you out and make you do well. He gives lots of xtra credit, attendance is mandatory. You show up, you get an A
I took the black holes class with Jim. It's a discussion based class that is graded mainly on attendance, and a class project. There is a final also, but this, as Erin annonces, is generously curved. Make sure you show up and do some of the reading, but more important do your project if you want an A. Erin is super laid back and a great guy.
I really enjoyed this class, very interesting. It's super easy and he's a great teacher. If you take this class, don't buy the book, it's a waste of money. I never bought one and never needed one. He gives no homework and lots of extra credit opportunities. Just make sure you come to class and study for tests. I strongly recommend this class.
this guy is super easy and super stoked! a surfer dude who is working with one of the easy topics to amaze students with, the cosmos.. if you're at all interested in the universe, take this class.. also, even though info conflicts heavily with religous beliefs he tries to make people not feel guilty for having their own beliefs which is cool
O'Connor's a great teacher. He makes class interesting and is pretty easy. Since this class was a lab, attendance is very necessary but it's basically all your graded on. As long as you show up, you're pretty much guaranteed an A. I learned a lot in this class and recommend it to anyone trying to fulfill their Science.
he super nerdy! the class is really easy yeah hes strict on the absences but how do u plan to do well in any class without showing up?!? its totally worth it and an easy IF u go.
Erin is a great teacher! He is knowledgeable and super enthusiastic about Astronomy (and Geology!). Tons of Extra Credit that is helpful in making sense of it all. Material can be hard, but Fred's lectures online make it easier to study for tests. Goofy sense of humor - if you are 'too cool', you won't like it. Amazing class!
Simple class, great teacher, very helpful and wants his students to learn. Gives soooo many extra credit opportunity's I think you would have to try to fail the class. Take this class if you want to learn a lot and have a great time.
I love Erin! I took the astro in my 2nd semester and came back for his black holes class. He's such a great guy--he really wants you to learn and succeed. Just show up with a good attitude and be interested in the class. His class is all discussion-based. You are free to express any opinion you have about anything. TAKE HIS CLASS!
O'Connor's not only has a good sense of humor, he's also fair and intelligent. The material can be tought sometimes, but when you do the extra credit you can get a letter grade up, easy. He gives you every chance to suceed in the class. Definitely my favorite teacher at CC, he's the best of the best
Erin is a very good teacher and is entertaining. The lab runs three hours long and most of the times we were forced to stay the whole time using the telescopes. However, it's a very interesting class and highly recommended.
i am not good at any kind of science, but Erin is such a sweet professor! and i got a good grade!he offers tons of extra credit and helps out with low test scores! take him! very very nice guy!
Star trek fan, FUNNY guy, knows his shizznet, smart, gives lots of extra credit opportunities, TAKE NOTE and actually read them and youll do fine. get to class on time so you can get extra credit!!! Extra credit, extra credit, extra credit...
Heavy book usage on tests, you probably wont get above a C on later tests if you don't read the book. Read the book + attendance + paying attention and good notes and you should do good on tests. Tons of EC opportunity, get on it early. Some lectures are interesting others are boring. You can bomb most tests and still do well in the class.
A little bit surfer dude, a little bit Star Trek geek, Erin makes a really interesting teacher! He's strict on attendance, but easy going on everything else & has a great sense of humor. Pay attention & you'll do well. I will be back for his Astro Lab & Black Holes classes! (And yeah, he's pretty hot if you ignore the whole socks & sandals thing!)
This class is ridiculous...The clicker questions are ridiculous...You will have a test every week or every other week...Claims to curve on exams, but somehow 3 people get 100%. Unless you love Astronomy to death DONT TAKE!
Really nice guy, easy going. Class requires studying but not to much. Fun, even
Very easy going and helpful professor. Clearly loves what he teaches and is fair on grading. Loves to rock the sandals and socks combo !!! Funny guy. Take his astronomy lab and class together you wont be dissapointed!
he teaches seminar style. participation is a must. as long as you do his assigned work you will get an A. he is leanant on due dates. grades upon completeness. it was the black holes class. a brief history in time is the textbk. if u havent had the honor of having him as a prof, u must. worth every minute i sat in class
He curves each test by like 5%...he goes on tons of tangents and when he doesn't know the answer he talks about something completely unrelated and keeps going instead of admitting he doesn't know. He's pretty easy but read the book because he doesn't cover a lot of stuff. He's easy but pretty boring :(
Such an awesome class! O'Connor is a goofball and is super chill! Clicker quizzes are easy cause he gives us most of the answers plus if you get it wrong you still get half credit! Astronomy is so interesting and he makes it entertaining. Attendance is mandatory, lots of extra credit, tests are easy as long as you read and study the chapter.
O'Connor is a really nice guy. Kinda nerdy but in a good kind of way. Does many extra credit clicker points every day so it is important to go! also he counts the clicker questions as participation sometimes and the questions always appear on the test the next day so WRITE THEM DOWN and THEIR ANSWERS. easy as that. gives you a lot of extra credit.
This teacher is great! The course was really interesting and I went into it not knowing a thing. Grading is easy: there's NO homework and it's all based on tests. That sounds bad, but each test is cumulative, so I remembered everything for the next test. (very helpful) Also, simply showing up to class gets you a LOT of points. Plus, plus lots of ec
i lost my book in his class and was not ready for the test and he gave me and extension and lent me a book for the rest of the semester
Great class! Professor knows what he's talking about, is an easy grader and daily clicker quizes are open-neighbor (and open notes if he doesn't notice)!
Weak instructor. Simply put, it's hard to retain anything he says because he's so boring. Being extremely repetitive during a lecture wont help students remember something, it'll just aggravate them so bad all they'll remember is the aggravation. don't take. this class is sleepy time. tests are extremely difficult, attendance is mandatory, long...
Last semester I took his lab class and noticed that out of about 15 school weeks, we only used telescopes about 3 or 4 times. That's right. This lab felt like a continuation of the lecture, which was difficult to sit through.
He lectures but the stuff he mentions is barely going to be on the tests. Most of the stuff is going to be from the book but anything in the chapters is free game. He is not upfront about this. He gives up to 50 points extra credit which will raise you half a letter grade. There is no homework but that can end up being a very bad thing.
Very easy to get an A in this class if you make at least some effort. The teacher is very nice and friendly and is passionate about the subject. Only complaint is it is often hard to stay awake.
This person summed it up "the stuff he mentions is barely going to be on the tests. Most of the stuff is going to be from the book but anything in the chapters is free game. He is not upfront about this. He gives up to 50 points extra credit which will raise you half a letter grade. There is no homework but that can end up being a very bad thing."
I've taken all the classes Erin teaches, he is great. Inspirational and passionate he really just wants to get you interested in astronomy. Easy pass and a good person to be on good terms with. Highly entertaining and explains really complicated things in a simple way to understand them, even the black holes class, highly recommended
Just finishing this class, wasn't really interested in astronomy but he made it fun and interesting. I think he could do a little bit more prepping students for tests, because we'll go over some material and then the test has questions that are way different. Erin is a cool dude and he wants everyone to succeed, If you try- you will do well.
Attendance is mandatory to get clicker point or else going would be useless. He reads off of the slides the whole lecture and lectures the day of test on what will also be on it. His test are hard since you dont learn much but there is a lot of extra credit. I would take fred if you can.
I don't know what these people are talking about. Erin is a great teacher. The class is super easy. It's all power points and he uses clicker questions, even if you get it wrong you get half credit. The tests are hard but he goes over everything the day before and has clear study guides. He's quirky( just like a nerd should be) Take him!
Erin's a great guy and a fun and goofy teacher. If you pay attention in class you'll do well. He covers all the material that he puts on the tests thoroughly in the lecture. And if you like quirky geek-humor like I do, he is the master of it.
O'Connor is a really nice person, however he is not the best teacher. He relies too heavily on Fred's lecture notes and tests, and it does not seem like he does anything himself. Does not prepare you for tests, a lot of the tests are random material never discussed in class and just barley mentioned in the book. Lectures are also really boring.
Erin is a great person who really wants you to succeed in his class. His lectures are fun and if you pay attention to what he says and answer all his in-class quiz-questions, you won't have to study much for his tests.
hes a surfer/nerdy teacher but overall i enjoyed this class. clicker questions every class but you can talk to your classmates. tests are kinda hard but he curves them. and ton of extra credit. like 2 hw assignments throughout the semester. go to class and do extra credit, you will be fine.
He love his job for sure. He makes each class interesting. He is really laid back most of the time. HE HATES CELL PHONE IN THE CLASS! The test are rather hard. But I really learned a lot form him and plan on taking more classes from him
I love having Erin as my professor! He loves his job & really wants everyone to succeed in his class. Offers a lot of ec. If you just go to class & listen you learn alot & will easily pass. Curves the testing scores. The most questions that people got wrong on tests will be clicker questions & you get half credit even if you get it wrong. RECOMMEND
He's a good teacher because he is funny and easy to understand, but it is a hard class. If you miss a day you are screwed and do every extra credit assignment or you will fail. The tests are hard so studying is a good option. There is no homework so if you bomb the test you bomb the class. Good luck.
Erin is super chill! although his test are difficult he has made his class 100% fail proof. His extra credit can allow you to bump your grade by two letters if you do it all! yes...seriously! He's really funny and nice. Really understanding as well. Don't text in class though, don't be fooled by the large class size, He's on his texting game.
One of the best professors I have had yet! Attendance is mandatory since there are quiz questions in class everyday but they make the class fun and keeps it interesting. He even gives extra credit if the whole class gets a question right! I ended up with a 85% in the class but since I got an A on the final he gave me an A in the class :) Take him!
One of the nicest professors I've had! The content is a bit difficult, but he explains it the best he can. The class itself is not too difficult. Loads of opportunities to complete assignments and he will accept everything on the day of the final. Takes attendance everyday which is a big part of your grade. Not a hard class, just pay attention!
The class itself is not hard, but you do need to go. 50 pt tests every week or every other week that are very hard!! He gives lots of extra credit so you can still get a good grade without doing well in the class. I never got higher than a C on a test, but passed the class with a B. Go to tutoring as much as possible and use the study guides!
Erin is a great teacher. He's very enthusiastic about the subject and does his best to make sure you do well. Though the tests were challenging for most (trust me, I graded them), the extra credit is easy and well worth your time. Show up to every class, take a few notes, and go to the tutors with any questions and you should get no less than an A.
Erin is extremely passionate about the subjects that he teaches! However you NEED to go to class! The tests were incredibly difficult but he gives a generous amount of extra credit, and it helps! Erin is really fun and entertaining, very rarely was I bored in his class. Just study hard, do the extra credit and you should be fine!
Yes the tests were hard but he offers so much extra credit it shouldn't even matter. He cares about the subject and about his students. Do not miss a single class, pay attention and do the extra credit and you will get at least a B
Tests are extremely difficult. Study guides don't help.
Erin is a great teacher. He's very enthusiastic about the subject and does his best to make sure you do well. Though the tests were challenging for me, I was grateful for the extra credit as it wasn't to hard and was worth it .Go to every class, take a few notes, and go to the tutors with any questions and you should get no less than an A.
Pros: nice, funny, passionate, genius, driven, hardly any hw. cons: doesn't seem to care about some who fall behind, lots of participation required, hard tests, hard concepts you must apply, lots of critical thinking, $88+ book and $7 for kit card. tips: take lots of notes and study them well! good luck.
Best teacher I've ever had. If you are struggling the material there are like 5 different tutors available and there are also videos online. VERY many exc opportunities that can boost up to an entire letter grade. See the tutors, not just for exc but because they have taken the class before and know the material well. Highly recommend this class!
The Black Holes class is simply amazing, even if you're only slightly interested in the topic. The class is completely conceptual (no major assignments). Pay attention to the lectures. He's the world's fairest grader, and has the dopest hair cut! Total surfer-nerd who is really passionate about the unanswered questions of the unforgiving universe
Lectures are great! Ppl tend to not pay attention in class and say its hard, If you pay attention he tries to teach all that WILL be on the tests. Materials will start to sound the same, so I think that was a little confusing (when he teaches about all the planets). if you do ALL the extra credit you'll pass the class. I'm serious.
He is a great teacher and my favorite class! Read the book, go to class and study the material from the book. Tests can be challenging if you do not study .. take advantage of the tutors they really help! He gives out plenty of extra credit to get an A in the class even if you fail multiple tests.
Very boring class. Astronomy itself is interesting but he makes it so boring. You have to be on time and stay the whole time because he assigns clicker questions that go towards your participation points. You don't learn much from the lecture; you have to read the book and watch the youtube videos. Tests are very hard and irrelevant to lectures.
Great teacher. Easy class.
Not only a great professor but an awesome mentor. Gives you the tools to succeed. Encourage to visit tutors which is very helpful and gives extra credit for going to the tutoring sessions! Very comprehensive, funny and smart! Hope he's back soon, can't wait to recommend my friends to take his class.
He's an amazing teacher. Funny, goofy and also very passionate about his subject. You have to go to class because there are clicker questions every lecture. Do your homework and listen to what he says in class and it's easy. The tests are not too hard. I got A's and B's. He gives you a lot of extra credit chances as well. Wish I could take it again
This was such an interesting class. I loved everything we talked about. Only thing I didn't like was that it was at 8am. He is such a passionate and great teacher. The class was not the easiest, but it was so interesting it made up for it. He gives you online quizes you're allowed to take twice, so you can correct your wrongs. 10/10 would go again
class was fairly interesting. Did horrible on the quizzes and tests but did every extra credit assignment and barely slid by with a C
I love Erin. If you have a chance to take his class, do it! He is kind and caring, and his subtle youthful sense of humor is great for anyone with a willingness to enjoy. He presented the course material simple and interestingly. I never struggled in his class but I was constantly learning new things. This is how education is supposed to be.
Fun and easy going teacher. Do the extra credit opportunities and you should easily get an A. The downside of the class is that there is a 50 question test every other week (sometimes 2 weeks in a row). Recommended!
The best teacher I have ever had! He is fun and caring and really wants you to get a good grade. Communication is key with him, if you have trouble or are worried about a grade he will work with you! He gives lot's of extra credit and overall I have never been more interested in his subjects. I have taken both Erth 101 and 106
Great teacher that made Astronomy much more fun. Hes not very strict and theres no big projects/assignments aside from the final (which is just a test). He gives you plenty of extra credit and tools to succeed if you choose to use them. Probably my favorite proffesor in my 3 Semesters here so far. Not hard but not the easiest class either
Hes very funny and actually cares about his students! He gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Astronomy can be difficult for a lot of people, but he makes it fun. Stay up to date with the reading and all the weekly assignments (theyre not hard). The only thing I will say is he can be a little disorganized at times and goes off on tangents!
He is such an amazing person! So funny! He give you a lot of opportunities for Extra credit which can change you grade from a C to an A. I bought the Textbook, but I never really read many chapters. I think you can get away with just studying from the lectures. The tutors were very helpful and they have questions that are on the test!
Extremely confusing material in my opinion, but Erin is a great and very eccentric guy.
Professor O'Connor is very interesting and fun to listen to. I would also say that some of his lectures are confusing bc when he talks, he doesn't say specifically what is/is not important. He says his tests don't affect your grade (you take a 50 question test every two weeks) but if you don't do well, your grade won't be either. DO EXTRA CREDIT!
Do not get me wrong.. This guy has a good heart and definitely cares about his students. He helps you with tons of extra credit opportunities and tests throughout the semester. Now on the other hand, the lecture is a complete joke. Participation is required but the lectures are nonsense and completely boring and useless. He goes off topic
I love professor O'Conner!! He is such a good person and really passionate about what he does! I'm a returning student at SBCC, and by far he is my favorite teacher on campus. He is funny and he makes learning fun! Gives a lot of extra credit :)
Take his class! Hes a really cool and funny guy. He occasionally makes jokes so the class can be more fun than it already is. Youll really learned a lot of things in his class and how some things are connected to others.
Good class, interesting topics, but lazy professor. Won't make his own power points/tests so it's always confusing. He's often late and some (most) days he's so off topic that only 30% of what he says is at all relevant to the course. He seems to really need attention and has almost a compulsion with being liked so he's easy on you at least.
Very solid choice. There is a 50 question test around every 2 weeks on the lectures. The homework is online but not only is it very easy, he also gives you lots of time to turn it in. O'Connor gives a massive amount of extra credit so if you do all the homework, extra credit, and go to most classes you're completely set.
Professor is a great guy and cares for his students enough to provide a lot of extra credit opportunities, and gives a lot of time to complete online homework. However, his lectures are confusing and it's hard to tell what you need to know for the tests and what is just extra information. He also makes lectures hard to follow by going off topic.
Professor Erin is so kind and genuinely cares about his students! He provides lots of extra credit assignments and his course is pretty easy and straight to the point. The assignments assigned were almost the same every week-- A crash course quiz, lecture + discussion, and a lab activity. I really enjoyed this class and having Erin as a professor!
I really enjoyed this class. Erin is a fun easy going and relatable guy. His lectures are fun and interesting. He cares about your grade and offers lots of EC so take advantage of those opportunities. The material is pretty straight forward and easy to navigate. I highly recommend this course.
Take this class! Erin is a super cool dude who really cares about his students. Soooo much extra credit and lectures were really fun. Fairly easy course. It would be really hard to not get a good grade in this class.
