This lady is way too smart for what she is teaching. WAY too difficult. If you can get another professor do it. She is not at all interesting unless you really want to hear how many A's she got in high school and college. She basically doesnt care what you think. It's her way or no way.
She is rude! I did not like her very much. As long as you read the stories and turn in your work on time, you should pass. She is extremely weird and confusing. I attended every class, turned in all of my work on time, and received a B. Class participation is important, you must share your thoughts in order to make an A.
Though a lot of my classmates found her hard, I thought Ms. Callahan was one of the best teachers I have ever had, english or otherwise. If you participate in the conversations during class, she will respond very well and is very good about helping with anything. I found this class very enjoyable; I looked forward to it. She is great.
Class is a bit hard, you do have to read every day. The class is mostly just discussing what you read the night before. She's a really great teacher, she's extremely smart and really helpful (if you ask). She likes outspoken people so dont be shy. I would recommend her class, just make sure u read
I agree with the two comments before mine, she is helpful, you just have to ask. Great professor, real smart and helpful. If you are an english major I recommend her.
I took both her Comp I & II and enjoyed both. Pro Cal is your money's worth. You can go to someone else who is easier if you don't want to be challenged, but she is definitely one of my favorites. Be sure to read. She will really help you out if you put in the effort, and that means quality in your work and attention in class. She's worth it!
Took her during the 3-wk-mini and it was intense. Loved her but not so much the reading. She's very fair & takes things into consideration. She has daily quizzes, which pretty much everyone fails, 2-2pg response papers, 1-4pg research paper, and a final. The final may seem harder than it actually is so don't freak out...the majority will make A's.
She is an amazing teacher. She is extremely down to earth and is open to all opinions and thoughts. She respects everyones space and does not juge you. As long as you keep up with the readings and keep up with your papers youl be fine. She will help you whatever you need. It is a good class.
Very good teacher and she is really smart. If you want a run for your money then take her if you are not up for the challenge then dont waste your money. She is very helpful and you must read or she will get very angry..lol.. Overall a great teacher
The lady is way to smart and has a very high vocabulary.Bring a dictionary with you. lol!! Very good teacher and she is really smart. If you want a run for your money then take her if you are not up for the challenge then dont waste your money. She is very helpful and you must read or she will get very angry..lol.. Overall a great teacher
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ONE.
SHE IS HORRIBLE! Being young i thought she would understand highschool not teaching us to write a good paper.. but she does not care! she expects a graduate level paper if u want a good grade! She give A LOT of work. If you are strong in ENG she is prob. ok but if u rnt GREAT at it DO NOT TAKE HER! She is flat out rude!
This Professor was an extreme challenge! I was very shocked when I came to know that her exams were 12 page timed writings! She wasn't understanding at all either! I made an A because I am a strong writer and did all my stuff but if you are not a good English student and would not like to read/work hard/ write, please I encourage you to drop!
she is completely rude!... she writes books on her classes so watch what u say, if u are quite dont take her, all you do is sit and talk the entire time... and she likes to not explain things the assignment and doesnt e mail you back if u have questions until way later! all in all dont take her!!!!!!
Be sure to participate in class, she threatens to lower grade if you don't. Expect a lot of reading and writing to do, she has no mercy. First impression of her is she is crazy, which is exactly what she is.
Okay heres the deal with this class. You have to read like three sections from the book each week, you write a research paper, talk about the stuff you read. It's really not that bad for this being my first time in college. One warning if you make a facial expression or knod your head, she'll be like "You shook your head. Why?" Haha thats about it.
Okay so she does do many things that rae wttien in the previous comments but overall she is a great teacher. I'm not a slacker so i come ready to work, and as long as you do that you should be fine. She is very observative tough if you move or make a weird expression she will notice and be like ," what was that, why did you do that?" haha.
You need to attend class regardless of how well you read and analyze writing. Take notes because everything she says is game for the tests. She usually has a discussion-based class where, in an ideal class, everyone puts in their two cents and she covers what she expects us to know about the story. I do not enjoy English, but she made the class fun
shes hard and very very demanding nothing ever satisfies her........ and she has a bad sarcastic attitude
Her assignments were creative, yet challenging. Her honor's class requires hard work, so only take her if you are willing to put in all the hours. She takes on a lot of other classes, so sometimes she is too busy to help her students, but she means well. Overall, I enjoyed her class.
I took her online class, she makes you read a lot and write a lot. sometimes several essays a week. the topics you have to write about are very uninteresting and difficult to come up with the amount of words she expects you to write.
She is one of the more difficult professors I have had, but good. She expects a lot from her students. The only problem I had was the amount of work that was given. Sometimes is was very overwhelming, especially the essays.
ONLINE. Not too easy. MUST read and MUST attend online discussions almost every week. Time consuming, but doable. She's really nice and extremely helpful. Will answer any questions asap. I always needed help writing and she had no prob helping me with everything. I definitely recommend her especially if your major is english.
Very challenging class. Loads to write, oftentimes overwhelming. She is VERY interesting, fair and helpul. Don't take this class if you already have a heavy workload. Take this class if you want to improve your writing skills. Cursed it all the way through the course, but so glad I took it now - I'm a better writer for it!
I absolutely hated this class and found the professor to be rude. I love English, but I took her 2301 class and felt completely overloaded with work, confused about what exactly she wanted, and stressed because it was too much work with not enough time to do it. She acts like her class is the only class you're taking. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I took her class online last semester. It was a lot of work, but no more than you would expect from a College English class. It's been over 15 years since I took an English class, but I still made an A. I thought she was very polite and helpful.
I hated english before this class! She is not an easy teacher but I still highly recommend her. Not only does she help you out anytime you need help in her class she is also willing to help you out with work from your other classes. She is one of the few great college professors at San Jac!
I hated this class. She's very unclear with what she wants and acts like her English class is the only class you're taking. She overloads you with homework with barely enough time to finish it. If you're not comfortable with speaking in front of people, don't take her, she will call you out. Took it with a different prof. and made an A.
Professor Callahan was a fantastic teacher. I have never had an English class I remotely enjoyed prior to hers. I took her five week course, it was a lot of work but it was quite rewarding. Her class was very interactive, which I loved. There were rarely right or wrong answers to her questions so as long as you did the work you were rewarded.
Very helpfull, she will give lots of work but it will be graded fairly. If you work hard and attend class she will reward you for that. Easy to get along with and easy to get a hold of if anything came up last minute. Her class is very enjoyable
awesome teacher. she had a great passion for the subject and made it enjoyable. very hard class but if you do the work you're supposed to do then you'll be fine.
awesome teacher. she had a great passion for the subject and made it enjoyable. class is hard but if you do the work you're supposed to then you'll be fine. i learned a lot in this class so if you're looking to actually learn then this is the teacher for you.
Not always clear about what she wants, but consistently helpful and she definitely knows her stuff.
This professor is terrible. I am very good with English classes and always get an A like I did int this one; I just didn't learn anything from this teacher. She never posts grades. We didn't get out grades from our mid-term until the it was time to take the final. Half of the class dropped. Don't take from this teacher!
I enjoyed Professor Callahan's on-line class. We took a trip to The Museum of Fine Arts and it was wonderful. She is very clear from beginning to the end of class of what is expected.
Prior to taking her class, I honestly disliked English courses, thinking it was my weakness. I learned otherwise through her. Not only did she greatly improve my writing abilities, but I learned I am weak when it comes to literature, not journalistic writings. She is condescending at times, but she means no harm, just be on time and on task.
She goes to fast, has about 5 essay to do, No one ever makes a hundred on their essays, your lucky if you make a 90. Expects you to know everything that comes out of her mouth. And she always says why.
She is very helpful if you have questions about the given assignments. Go to class, and always read what is needed for class discussion. Responds to emails quickly. Be ready to work hard, but the grade will be worth it.
She is a great professor who is very passionate about what she is teaching and very nice. I took her for both 1301 and 1302 and both classes require a good amount of work, but nothing too difficult and you will learn a lot. She is always willing to help you will guide you through discussions (which there are a lot of).
Wonderful professor. Really is there to help you succeed as long as you do the work. She does assign a lot of writing but on very interesting prompts.
Yes, work load is a lot. Yes, she takes a while to grade. But she is a dang good professor! Anything she will help and go the extra mile. Be prepared to read, write, and do a lot of homework. You will learn, improve, and it is worth it. Would take her again if I had choice to.
Ok teacher but very slow to grade. She would take a long time to respond to emails. Her assignments could be confusing, unclear and many times her essay rubrics had the wrong due dates or requirements on them. She was very helpful but towards the end of the year her helpfulness deteriorated. I would not take this class with this teacher again.
Terrible just terrible. Rude too..
Let me put it this way, she is what every person imagines of a college Professor. Strict, and makes you work for your grade. Attendance is mandatory! Don't get me wrong, she is very helpful. Responds to all your e-mails. P.S. she gets you ready for an University!!!
Get ready to do WORK! She is very clear about what she wants, and sticks to it. This class is tough! Its not something to take lightly, bring your book everyday and make sure you take all the notes as well. I would bring a laptop if I was you. Participation is key, she will make the class write if you do not talk to her during class.
Her class would not be hard if you love English, but for me I don't like reading but this was not that bad, She helps you a lot and she is always there for you.
Need to listen and ask questions if you dont understand or you will drown
work is exhausting and something is assigned everyday. you should expect a reading and writing assignment everyday. she has a very strict attendance policy where if you miss more than one class she will drop your grade an entire letter.. if you miss more than 2 you FAIL. so this isn't a good class to take if you're going through anything personal.
Dr. Callahan is very passionate about English and would like everyone else to be also. She is a very encouraging instructor, but a tough grader (when she finally returns grades that is). Class participation/attendance is mandatory and tests are challenging. You have to work hard for a decent grade.
I'm in her online course right now and haven't had any luck this entire semester. I usually like English classes and pass them with a high grade. Her teaching method kills, too much work and not enough explanation. Her assignment requirements are vague, the tone in her grading comments comes off as rude, and it's hard to stay engaged.
This has been the most challenging and labor intensive class that I have taken thus far. However, it has been the most rewarding. This is the first class that I took at san jac and it set the tone for the rest of my college career. Dr. Callahan made me a better writer and a better student. I cannot say this about the vast majority of my classes.
Dr. C is great. Lots of participation grades, and you'll become a better writer. She points out all the little things in your rough drafts so that your final draft can be as strong as possible. She cares about her students and will work with you if you're struggling. I definitely recommend her class. I plan on taking her again for comp 2.
She is the most caring professor; if you are having trouble in her class or in any other she helps you out, she completely understands you. She wants the best for her students and always goes the extra mile in teaching. I recommend her besides passing her class you will learn a lot from her!!
Gives lots of completion grades. There's about 5 essays, including a take home essay final. She is a tough grader, but gives excellent feedback. There were lots of class discussions and some group projects with presentations. Offers extra credit and only allows four absences the whole semester.
She gives homework every day and this is not useful for college students, I understand it is to give us students more grades, but if she stopped being a tough grader, everything would be okay. P.S: She treats you like a high school student and is pretty nosy.
I always had trouble with writing papers but after taking this class it has helped me SO MUCH writing papers and researching. There are a lot of papers to write though I had no problem with it as it challenged me. If you want to become a better writer and can take criticism take this class if you arent then go to a different professor.
Wouldnt recommend. Shes a tough grader. She opens assignments that are due the day of as soon as her class starts which isnt fair to others who have classes before her. She post everything last minute.
When I say so many papers, I mean it. She makes you work for it! The worst part is she does not reply to your email. She rarely replies which does not really help, groups help to improve your grade. Make sure you are on your group's good side. I would not recommend her if you have a busy schedule. Honestly, not worth it...
She is very difficult and she always says you plagiarize if you accidentally did not put "in-text citation" even if you did works cited. She is very picky and grades really hard. Get ready to do work like never before
If you want to save your GPA, I suggest you take someone else. You have been warned.
lecture is heavy, more than 4 essays, and sometimes does not reply to emails regarding grades or questions
shes a sweet lady but her teaching style is NOT for most people. theres a lot of reading, group projects, SO many essays .she assigns work like we dont have a life outside of school or other classes to keep up with. I dreaded going to class every day. pretty sure my GPA is non existent by now thanks to this class.
If you want to be a better writer, she is the professor for you. I also took her for comp 2 and made a B. She is so inspirational and made me strive to be better than what I was used to. Im usually a C student. This class if for those who want to learn and arent going to skip homework. She really loves what she does and wants everyone to succeed.
Dr. Callahan was an amazing professor and gave great feedback on every assignment. The online on a schedule class includes a bit of homework but is more manageable (1-3 hours a week) compared to that of an AP course load . Stay on top of your work and make sure to email her if you have any questions. She always responds very promptly. Don't stress!
A solid choice for a English class. She lectures a lot, but is very informative about assignments and likes to have students participate. She responds to emails relatively quickly and helps you the best she can. My only problem that I had with her is that she did assign a large amount of homework during the week, but otherwise she is Awesome.
While the class itself is a great course, the professor can be a bit unclear about what she wants us to do, gives out too much homework, hardly ever responds to emails regarding your grade or any other important class matter, no extra credit, can be rude and give an attitude to the class at times. I'm honestly just there to get my credit and dip.
Get ready to do heavy reading. Her lectures are amazing and participation matters. She's one of the nicest professors I've had and I really enjoyed her class. I would strongly recommend her class if you're ready to put in the work and participate. she also sometimes has wifi issues.
She gives detailed lectures about what she expected each week and she responds to emails very promptly. She gives an understandable amount of work, around 3-5 assignments a week but they are relatively simple. If you want an understanding professor that replies quickly then Prof. Callahan is perfect for you :)
This professor is friendly but does assign a lot of essays and work each week. She assigns group projects and a book to read. This class was a lot of work and the grading could have been less harsh. If you want a challenge then take this class.
She’s a very nice professor although don’t take her if participation is not really your thing. She usually takes attendance off of participation or assignments. Also, there’s tons of assignments due every week and the endless assignments of group work. The whole semester is based off from a book.
The only reason why I gave her a 2 is because she was nice, but other then that I didn't like her class. She gives a lot of homework which fills up all your free time if you have a job. Expect a lot of class participation too. If your a more to yourself person don't take her class because she won't accept that.Overall would not recommend her class!
She is very strict, detailed, & gets upset if youre late. She assigns hw weekly & also group work which I didnt benefit from. I got annoyed at that & dont like that she expects us to talk a lot. Some people are introverts, respect that. I only took her bc she was the only am class that fit in my schedule. just wait next time if you can.
Dr.Callahan was always prompt in replying to emails. The content she teaches is important to society, and students that want to learn a lot about English texts. I would 100% take her class again!! :)
She assigns 2-3 assignments EVERY WEEK. She makes everyone participate in class. No more than 4 ABSENCES ... do NOT be tardy. More than half of the class quit showing up. I did not enjoy this class at all...
worst professor i have ever had
Dr. Callahan is wonderful! I took ENGL 2341 Lit and Film and it was very enjoyable. Lots of reading and writing but that was expected. Her lectures are very engaging and she encourages participation but doesn't force it like some profs. We had a few guest speakers that were very fun and interesting! I definitely recommend her class!
She does not allow you to be even 2 minutes late she is very strict on the time you get there. She hardly ever responds to your emails even if she tells you to ask if you need help, she still won't reply and will address it in the class in front of everyone. Also, I'd like you to please be prepared to talk with groups and in front of the class.
She gives amazing lectures, great feedback, and was very sweet. She was my favorite English professor, she is a tough grader but this improved my writing quality . She is stern with attendance and requires participation from every student. You won't get bored in this class ever, I would take her again if I could
very unclear about what she wants, due dates are not flexible, multiple assignments due next class, tough grader, would not recommend
A nice and caring person, just a difficult professor. Get ready for multiple assignments during the first week and there's always an assignment to do before the next class. She's a pretty lenient person in terms of understanding personal issues outside of class but there are still assignments to get done anyways. Also helps if you talk in class.
She seems nice but is not a good professor. She is a harsh grader and nosy. You have to bend over backwards in order to pass this class. Don't take this class unless you deeply enjoy writing. The amount of homework given is unreasonable. If you want an “easy A” I recommend another professor. A lot of the class failed or stopped attending.
Everytime she talked to me she always has a different vibe and not in a good way even my other friends would notice Maybe because I was absent but that was not a reason to dislike me.
Dr. Callahan was an amazing professor. She made an effort to connect with each student and was successful with this. While there was quite a bit of homework, I feel that I learned many useful writing skills that made everything worthwhile. She offered great insight and constructive comments. Overall, I would recommend taking her class.
This professor is completely unprofessional. You can have a disagreement/argument with her once, and she'll never treat you the same. She calls you out in front of other people, degrades you, and has no shame in it. I would not recommend her class.
rude and so unprofessional!! Talks about Bob Dylan for half the class and has the worst attitude ever. isn't willing to help her students at all and is overall a rude person. confusing turn in policy sometimes she accepts late work sometimes she wants you to turn it in online or in person it just depends on how she's feeling that day. DONT TAKE HER
A very tough professor especially if a newer student or first time in college. All though difficult to work with you will learn patience and the ability to become professional and put your personal feelings aside.
i hated this class. normally i like english as a subject but i don't even want to touch a word document after this. lots of work and vague instructions with strict deadlines. get out while you can.
This Professor is very passionate about Bob Dylan, she will mention him every class. She can be nosy and takes a while to grade, she is not great at responding emails. Overall her class is too much work for every assignment and have to do it her way every time.
