I was told not to take her, but I did and she's not so bad. She's very intelligent and she knows her stuff. If ya want to learn, take her.
VERY GOOD... properly teaches everyone. Gives you all the information you need to learn and then reenforces it so you will remember it. Makes the classes extordinarily interesting.
I changed my major to biology because of her! She knows so much, and is very enthusiastic in class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had.Takes a class that could be horrible and makes it interesting.Applies subject matter to everyday life.Very fair with tests and quizes and will allow make-ups if you miss.VERY pro-student.
She made the course so interesting to learn and applied her own personal accounts to classes. Very enthusiastic and encourages students to think in depth about the course material. I was so happy to see a teacher who actually enjoys teaching!
very good teacher...i learned a lot!
She was a great teacher. I felt her class was so interesting and inspirational. She shared some of her own life’s challenges, tragedies, and funny occurrences which made class not just entertaining, but truly motivating. I felt she was fair in her grading. No matter who you take the course is challenging - but she made it easier.
Great professor! I've recommended her to everyone who hasn't taken this calss yet (but needs to!) Definitely makes the class interesting! Take HER!
Relocated to CA, w/o a doubt, that I was going to remain in the Bio field, thanks to enjoying Dr. Christensen's class. Was actually #1 recommendation by Dr. Allen (Genetics and Evolution). Bio. is what you make it, so read! I'm almost done with my RN degree. Dr. Christensen is the kind that succeeds when her students succeed too. Thanks Dr.! =)
very easy..lot of extra credit...lot of quizez...pay attention and get an easy A
very smart and very good prof. i've learned a lot from her. she makes her class very interesting. her exams are a little bit tough but it pays a lot to learn from her. she made me love micro which i never thought i would ever like it.
Very helpful teacher. I mean, I didn't do anything in her class, and i still recieved 70s on tests, if you study for this class, her teaching style will help you do well
She is a very kind lady. Makes the class fun. She adds her own personal accounts to the class and she wants you to succeed.
she was a very good teacher. I loved her. she cared a lot and she made things clear. one of the best teachers i ever had and i will never forget her.
She is really good at teaching and makes bio more fun than it is. time goes by really fast in her class
she is great! very helpfull and clear! take her!!!
This class should be taking by ALL students, no matter your major or minor. So much knowledge about life in this class! I absolutely adore her...she is very helpful, and will do anything to help her students.I highly reccomend this prof. She's definitely an easy A if you do your work!
Erin is wonderful, not only as a professor, but as a person. She is passionate about her work and it shows in her teaching methods, She not easy, but she is interested and engages you in her class. I would not have wanted this class taught by anyone else. She's great!!
Professor Christensen is great! I never thought about I'll like microbiology, and I did learn a great deal in her class. She tells so many real life stories, and it has prepared us to work at the medical field in the future.
The best teacher I have ever had. Informative, interesting and she loves what she does. Take her!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! There is noone who can teach bio more clearly than her. The exams are a bit tough but if you go to class, take notes, and do hw... there is no way you can fail! She's extremely helpful and her lectures are so much fun.
She was awesome. one of the best professors here. :) she has many stories to tell that relate to whatever you're learning. she's there to help if u need. u can always ask questions, and she'll almost always have an answer. she's very knowledgeable and is very fair in grading and gives PLENTY of opportunities for extra credit. AWESOME!! take her!!!
Excellent professor, one of the best at MCC, one of the best I've ever had. She doesn't want you to just know the facts but understand the process and the significance; she relates a lot of the stuff to the world around you and you really "get it". She has a lot of great stories, and is fantastic. Highly recommended.
Dr. C is a wonderful teacher. She is passionate about the material and makes it interesting. I would highly recommend her; however, you must be willing to put in the effort. You will definitely learn a lot and be able to apply what you've learned to your future career. Peace, Love, Microbiology =)
Becareful, Dr Christensen has changed and is no longer the caring helpful prof. others say she is.... At her lads she simply throughs the directions at us and sits at her desk and corrects other students papers...When you ask her a question if feels as if she is annoyed. She may be going through some personal stuff, however; isn't the fabulous prof
Probably THE BEST professor I have had at MCC. You will need to study no matter who you take. There's extra credit on every quiz and exam. The most you'll have for homework is a worksheet that acts as a study guide anyway. This class was so great I'm even thinking about changing my major!
I don't know how anyone can say anything bad about Dr. C!! She is great!! You def. have to study hard but you learn so much in her class. She def. knows micro and teaches it well!! I def recommend her!
Professor C has been the best professor i ever had! your grade is based on your effort. those who disliked her did not put time and effort into the class. she gives u study guides which help alot and theres no surprises. i wish i could take her class again she is absolutely amazing and such a brilliant woman
there are not better professors out there for bio than professor C! not only does she make lectures interesting, she gives you study guides to help for the exams along with many opportunities on quizzes and extra credit to help your grade. if you want a great experience take her you wont regret it!
Loved her! She is extremely helpful and she is always easy to approach! knos her stuff. Her test are challenging but you have to understand what she is teaching its not easy! and Yes you have to study! She is doing what she is meant to be doing. great teacher!! If you pay attention in class and follow her study guide it will def. help on her exam.
She is an amazing teacher. she keeps you entertained, helps a lot. If you study and follow her study guide u will do good on her exams. she knows what she is talkin about and notices when you are making an effort. always available for extra help. Wants you to succeed. and if you dont like her your just not trying. I would take her again if i failed
very knowledgeable teacher and teaches what you need to know. use her study guides and take notes. very useful for any exams. got away with studying her guides without reading the book. barely a C student in bio but got away with an A in her class. she may come off as mean but she is just moody.if you need help, just ask her. she is willing to help
She is an amazing profesor!!!!1 Not mean at all, she is just passionate about micro and talks loud. Very helpful and funny. First techer i have ever had whose lectures are fun and understandable. If u are taking micro she is the best teacher for it. Imposible to get less than B
Dr. Christensen is very helpful and takes time to listen to everyones questions. She tends to treat everyone as equally important and never talks down to her students. She is extremely fair and understanding. She will make you think about some answers instead of just given them to you. Awesome teacher VERY knowledgeable!
AWESOME TEACHER ! Can't say enough about her in this small text box. She's funny, helpful, clear and fair. I would take her for ANY class she taught. She's a REAL person, not one of those professors that thinks they are better than you. She really REALLY cares about her students. She is fantastic! Take any class she teaches!
WOnderful professor, kind and very knowledgable, knows exactly what she is talking about, explains well, relates things to her experiences, wants her students to do well, always available for xtra help, she gives xtra credit opportuniities on evry test and quiz,if u study to ur best ability thers no way u can do bad, best profesor i have ever had!! =
I took this during the summer so the course moves at a faster pace. anyway, professor c, was great. she taught the material in a manner that was easy for everyone to understand. we had 4 exams, 1 practical, & quizes for every lecture & lab. her pp slides & notes are online & theres extra credit. there is NO way u can fail! take her, shes fab & fun!
very nice teacher, tests are half of grade, they are critical thinking questions, so you should definitely take the tests seriously and study hard, there are extra credit opportunities on the tests and quizzes which do help!
Great professor! This chick knows her stuff! Summer moves alot faster than regular sem, but she was extremely thorough in presenting the material. Lots of quizzes, tests, lab work, the practical & Unknowns were fun. She lays it all out for you, and provides lots of on-line messages in case you miss a class. Dr. C is great at Microbio-it's her world
Great teacher! one of the best ive had. Very Organized and keeps students interested. Shes worked in the feild for a while so she gives some real life input to the course.
Passionate, knowledgeable, understanding, & ummm very eccentric in that she does whatever she feels like doing at the drop of a hat. Need 2 study lots for this class, but she specifies exactly what you need to know. Don't take if you don't know how to write, since she loves grammar almost as much as she loves science. Also, luvs trick questions!
I have her right now and think she is just the best...she gives so many questions and assignments and extra credit points, so at no point do I find myself sitting there with the book going "oh my god i have a test tomorrow & i have no idea what to focus on." Attendance is not mandatory but, seriously, this is not a class where u can not b there
She is so awesome. Just take her right a way. Very Passionate, highly skilled and really a good professor. Her class are so easy, if u follow whatever she says. There are no surprises about your grade. very eager to help her student. My Favourite!
Im taking her right now,her exam are very difficult and confusing...half of the class got D :(( hope ill get a good grade by the end of semester
Dr. C is absolutely the best! She has a quirky personality mix of intimidating intellectual feminist and yet also sweet caring "mom" to all her students; she REALLY cares! Never really had a professor like her before, but I hope I do again! Wish she taught every biology class!!!!
Dr.C is such a good professor. I had her for this semester. She was so helpful. Just go to her in case you dont understand anything. She is just like'mom',so caring yet so strict.
Professor Christensen is awesome. Very passionate about the subject. She posts up all the power points. All her tests are multiple choice. She is very approachable if you need help. Gives quizzes to keep you on your feet. She also sometimes counts them as extra credit. Lab is fun with her as well. Just do your work and pay attention. :)
Very organized. Good teacher. She make biotech very interesting. Be inventive and stress details of any answers you give.
Dr. Christensen is no doubt the best MCC has to offer. If you have an opportunity to take her class, do not pass it up!! I even remember her telling us how important it is to wash your hands with HOT water and soap or it's a waste of time because fecal bacteria have a high lipid composition. I wash my hands like a pro now, thanks Dr. C.!
Good teacher. some ppl didnt read the book and passed with an A. its worth reading. Pwr points, quizes on pwr points, research project, debates "just research your topic". very cool class. its alot of work for 1 credit so dont add it thinking it wont take any of your time. have fun biotech people.
Amazing prof-Dr. C is 1 of the best @ MCC-Microbio is totally her world & her teaching shows it. Lectures clearly, explains in detail, & will work to clarify any points asked. Tests are challenging & make you think -lab is very interesting. She fills EXTREMELY quick-grab a seat in her section the 1st day reg opens! She's the one u want for Micro!
Please dont take her, she's impossible to pass. Her point power is no help in the exams. She's just too hard.
Such a nice teacher! Also teaches Bio very well! Please take her!
If you really want to learn bio, she is definitely a prof to take it with! She is kind of hard; to get an A on her exams you have to really know the material. But she tells you what you need to know. She always offered help and was very kind. There are plenty of grading opportunities plus extra credit. Just come to class and pay attention.
She is the most caring teacher I've ever meet. Her test are kinda tricky but the real weight is the Lab quizzes and the practical. try to keep ur lab quiz grade up at all time or i'll bite u later down... u most stay on top of everything to pass this class. its not a easy ride.. but it is very interesting
She was amazing. Subject matter is hard but she made it clear and easy to understand. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Make sure you attend lecture as she points out a lot of details from the powerpoints. Do the connect/learn smart as she write almost all the questions for McGraw Hill. Every quiz/test/practical has extra credit.
DO NOT MISS THE CHANCE TO TAKE HER! she is an amazing prof. study the connect and power points she hands out for the test and you will not fail! her lab and lecture quizzes are really easy if you study it right! i failed the practical (my fault i didn't study) and still got an A in the class! good luck =)
She is a very good professor that knows how to teach bio. Her tests are hard but if you read the book you will get an A. Not an easy teacher but at the end of the semester you will gain a lot of knowledge. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This professor has no concept of time and how much time it takes to complete these ridiculous amounts of connect assignments she hands out. Sure she knows her stuff, but we would also like to know it! Shoving hw down our throats just creates a 'means to an end' situation; a need to complete assignments. I got an A but so what. She needs to stop it.
Fantastic professor. She cares about bio and it is obvious. She's from a micro background so get ready to get nitty-gritty with the micro/molecular lvl of bio for Bio 1. Getting a good grade in her class is remarkably easy. Do the homework. Know how to write a decent paper. Read. Study. Learn.
AMAZING professor! She's brilliant but knows how to bring the information down to our level. There's extra credit on almost every quiz and every test--so know your stuff! A LOT of Connect homework, but it can be helpful. Overall, I loved her!
Dr Christensen is a wonderful professor. I nearly dropped the course however due to the assignments. Be very VERY AWARE, if you aren't a bio major, there's no need for this kind of abuse.
All her tests are from the power points. Gives a lot of extra credit but you really have to study at least 3hrs every day to pass. She's not easy to pass at all. Can be all over the place at times. Very helpful if you need help or at answering questions. Lab quizzes are a bit general and can be difficult. Very strict teacher.
She's extremely passionate about Microbiology and knows the subject inside and out, she's more than willing to clarify anything for you . You have to attend class, her notes are great and studying is required to get a decent grade. Thoroughly enjoyed her class, don't be late, she wants you to understand everything not just regurgitate it
Don't take Christensen because her exams are hard & she is way too mean.
This is a difficult subject, but the professor is very clear and her Powerpoints are very helpful for quizzes. If science is not your forte, study hard and take advantage of the extra credit. She offers a lot of it. Her exams are difficult. She gears them more towards understanding concepts rather than memorization. Put in the effort and u'll be ok
This class is nothing but a drag. Quizzes left and right. One quiz might be on the general basics, the next quiz might be every detail on Slide 5. She is very unclear, doesn't seem to know what will be on the next slide and she basically "talks at you" the entire class. I would avoid her like the plague.
Professor Christensen is a magnificent biology professor. She is very passionate about teaching and all about good students and student success. Work hard, utilize the office hours and clarify the doubts early on. By doing so not only will you receive good grades but will develop a new found appreciation for the subject. Cheers.
she is Helpful, clear in lecture, and she cares about her students.
This professor is really mean and doesn't appreciate effort. Wouldn't recommend.
Dr. C is a fantastic professor. She really made micro interesting. The only negative comment I have about her harsh grading (do NOT make spelling errors and always underline organisms on flowsheets). All in all, as the semester is coming to an end, I have found a new liking towards microbio thanks to Dr's C's passion towards the subject.
Dr.C is very knowledgeable on the subject of microbio. She's willing to answer any questions a student may have. A tough grader, but it all appears to be an attempt to prepare students for higher levels of educationor professional spaces. BIO221 is a difficult course, but she's an excellent teacher whose passion for the science is contagious.
She doesnt play around. Good teacher, but you gotta work for your grade. She also grades very hard (basically on the flowsheets) which is all that is assigned each lab class. She teaches good, but you have to keep up with the material and study it and dont leave it last minute. If you want that B you need to study hard or at leastjust dont proctast
Definitely a professor who is passionate about her field of study. This class is very interesting but can be hard so you need to stay on top of it; especially in lab. Make sure you follow her guidelines for the flow sheets. Do not procrastinate! She's always there for help and enjoys seeing her students succeed. Stay on top of your Connect as well.
Dr. C knows her stuff. I can see her deep passion for biology, teaching, and her students. She really wants her students to be successful. She is very clear about her expectations in her lecture. I recommend this course to anyone who is serious about actually learning the material .
Prof C is a remarkable professor. Makes sure you understand, super nice, and really passionate about the subject. You won't regret taking Micro with her!
Professor Christensen is a really hard grader.I studied really hard for exams and still got a D. Also, she is kind of mean during lab sessions. Please avoid taking her unless you want a poor grade. Seriously, taking her class is an easy F because you study and still can't make a good grade.
Dr.C. where do i begin. out of all the bio classes i have took, this is my favorite one that i found most intersting. Dont get my favorite with easy. this was not an easy course. BUT her teaching skills r def on point. best ive had in the bio department. she is very clear. grades hard on the flow sheets. dont procrastinate, it wont be cute.
Professor C is definitely one of the best I've had at MCC. Incredibly helpful and passionate about micro. Would take her again if I could!
This is NOT a difficult class and she is an incredible professor. However, we would have MORE TIME TO STUDY if she stops assigning A MILLION connect homework; it encourages cyber cheating. Students taking this class are science majors and its only fair to balance the workload and study times. Her connects assignments make that close to impossible.
THANK YOU DR CHRISTENSEN ALL THOSE LONG NIGHTS WITHOUT SLEEP AND READING A LOT WERE ALL WORTH IT.
She's definitely passionate about the material she teaches but powerpoints she provides are NOT the best; doesn't sufficiently go over the important material in class or lab. Every student has different backgrounds/knowledge but she teaches as if she's teaching only Phd mayors. Speaks very fast, if youre not a fast note taker you will MISS alot
She is a very good person and also cares for her students, she gives extra credit on quizzes and exam. Besides that she gives out too much connect homework which is around, 75 questions and 2 tries. Her exams are pretty though. She posts grades for quizzs or exams right on the day you submit it so you can see where you stand.
She cemented my passion for btech. It's because of her that I now know what I want to do. She's smart, witty, passionate about the subject, and is really really good at prompting otherwise quiet people into sharing their insight. And her presentation feedback is interesting to read and helpful. I wish I could take her for Intro to Btech again.
Super Passionate. Anal but for good reasos. Extra Credit on ALL quizzes and TEST SPELLING counts. Connect are lengthy BUT you get a week and 2 attempts! Lecture quizzes are STRAIGHT from the power point, lab quizzes get tricky but precise flowsheets help you out tremendously. Test are pretty tricky ,pay attention to what she says during lectures!
THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR EVER! She is so inspirational and intelligent. She inspired me to now major in Microbiology. A tough grader, as the class is very difficult, but always available to help when needed. I went from failing the class in the beginning to ending with a B. This class will make or break you from majoring in science.
She is amazing! Very passionate, very knowledgeable about Microbiology. She always makes the class very interesting by relating stories, short videos and her overall enthusiasm about the material. You will have to study hard but you will always remember what you have learned. So glad I had the opportunity to be thought by her.
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS WOMAN IS FAIR. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Your tests are LITERALLY based off her powerpoints. There is a lot of work but by far she is the BEST professor I've ever had for a bio course at MCC. She is caring, fair, doesn't play favorites, understanding and will do anything to help you. I've never done RMP for anyone except her. 10/10
Dr. C is extremely knowledgeable in this subject. Microbiology is a difficult subject but she tries to make it fun and relatable by providing personal excerpts to help you remember stuff better. She provided extra credit in her exams. A grade of A is achievable but you gotta know your stuff front/back. B+/B can be achieved if you focus in lecture.
Professor Christensen is a great teacher and will work with her students to make sure they have to most success possible. The course is a lot of material so be ready to study! She sees if you are trying to make an effort and she will help you if needed. The homework may be a lot though so beware
Dr. Christensen is awesome!!! I wish I could take every class of my degree with her. her teaching skills are awesome. She is really caring. I just love her.
This professor changed my whole life. She gives you the tools you need to succeed not only in future classes, but for the work force as well. I've learned so much from her and had me love studying for this course and biology in general. She's a tough grader, but if you do what she asks of you, it's an easy class to pass.
Very nice person and incredibly knowledgeable of her field. Her methods of teaching the material are very effective as well. Its been almost a year and can still recall quite a few members of the enterobacteriaceae. But really, she was great and actually applied what we were learning to the clinical and research fields One of the best profs at MCC
Dr Christensen was knowledgeable and a very good professor, but his class was very boring and dry. Every single lesson consisted of the same format: LOTS of reading and then a quiz at the end of each chapter. The tests were simple as the questions were directly from the quizzes but it was still a ton of information to remember each time.
This professor can be nice at times but is strict in general. Her tests were difficult at times, especially the lab practical. She's very repetitive but her lectures were very effective and good. If you are seeking an easy A than I would definitely recommend taking another professor.
It was a remote class due to the pandemic and I think she went on easy in terms of work load, not many questions on exams and a lot chances for extra credit, some interesting homework too. She also gave me advice on medical school and majors and lot's of real life situation advices during class. She's a good mentor but is strict to make us tough.
Def the best professor at MCC. She gives a lot of extra credit, so make your best. Participation is key during her lectures, as it is worth 20%. BUT, she def makes you work for your grade. Read a lot, everything she mention during lecture will def appeared exam and quizzes. She is so approachable and charismatic, ask questions, she loves it.
i've never posted a rating on any of my previous profs. i took her for a short summer course and she was by far the most difficult teacher ive ever encountered. shes strict, hard grader, participation is 15%, disregards that we all have lives and can't be studying 24/7 for her tests. shes very fast. i could go on and on. shes alot. dont take her.
I thought you become a professor to inspire others to learn. If you want to ruin your GPA. TAKE HER. She recommended me to drop my class instead of teaching me the material to pass. We have to work, we study. we had a terrible pandemic & professors do not see students' effort to succeed. what a shame!
The professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about microbiology and wants students to enjoy it as much as she does. Attendance and participation is mandatory. We only had 3 tests and 2 practicals. So far this has been the best biology course I have taken. Do the learning outcomes!! It is like an exam and chapter study guide.
Classes were online, the lab was in person. A LOT OF MATERIALS so dont slack off on studying. Gave 3 exams and the final is a comprehensive exam so make sure you are on top of your game. Its a lot of material but if you keep reviewing everything throughout the week is not that bad or difficult. Ask questions. Do ur learning outcomes. great Prof.
This professor is really one of a kind! She's super passionate about what she's teaching and it really shows during her lectures. Microbio is difficult but she offers study guides and learning outcomes. A lot of terms and definitions to memorize so use flashcards. Quizzes almost every week but they help you prepare for the exams, no midterm though.
She is the best prof I've had at MCC. Her lectures are so interesting and she is so knowledgable. Micro is a hard class & full of things you must know to become a healthcare worker. If you dont have time to study/do the work, you dont have time to become a nurse. Not her fault. Also, every micro prof assigns the same HW, its required for the course
One of the best Professors I've had at MCC. She's very caring and always willing to help. Many opportunities for extra credit! She will provide you with all the information you need but is your responsibility to study! If you do not understand ask, she's always willing to help. Make a vocab Words List and use the tables she provides. Study!
she a very tough grader. she gives learning outcomes but it does not relate to the lecture exams. she says she gives NCLEX question but not everyone wants to be a nurse. Quizzes are in lab and starts as soon as class start. if ur late by 5 min you can't take the quiz. These quizzes should be done after lab. participation is huge.
Course might be overwhelming for some but she'll make sure you're keeping up with class polls, quizzes, learning outcomes, and office hours availability. The class shouldn't be a struggle if you're on top of the assignments and actively pay attention during lectures. By far the best professor I've worked with. Plus she's heavy with extra credit
This class EXTREMELY difficult and requires a lot of free time to study. She provides extra information on top of a lot of information which makes it difficult to keep up and remember the important stuff. Her learning outcomes do not reflect on exams, and quizzes do not properly prepare you. Keep in mind you will do extra work in this class.
If you plan to be a great healthcare provider, take her! You gotta put in the work, but you will walk out of that class with solid strong MicroBio knowledge. She applies what you learn to healthcare, making it easy to grasp. It will be super helpful to have that background knowledge already if you're going to a post-graduate program.
Dr. C is a really sweet professor. She helps guide discussions and really cares about her students. If you enjoy talking in a group setting, the class is going to be relatively easy. The reading is a bit tedious and the quizzes before each class can catch you off guard sometimes but it's a pretty light class. I highly recommend taking Dr. C. :)
If u take this class u need to GRIND!!! Dedicate HOURS a week to studying. Weekly lecture and lab quizzes on each chapter (short, but require studying). They're hard but did force me to stay up to date with the material. Exams are SO hard but she helps prepare u with what to focus on. She's great with canvas and communication. Microbio is just hard
Dr. Christensen is a passionate, knowledgeable professor who makes microbiology engaging. Attendance is a must, but the coursework, while challenging, is rewarding. Unstuck study was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend it alongside the textbook.
This is a very study heavy class, there were a lot of quizes (short). You need to take notes and show up to class, stay on top of assignments. Don't get scared, the class is easier as long as you dedicate yourself and she's the sweetest. I would 100% take her again and she really helped me realize this is what I'm passionate about studying.
Prof Christensen was the best science prof I had at middlesex
You definitely need to put in (at least) 4-5 hours of studying a night. It is an incredibly hard course, but Dr. C is amazing at what she does, she is knowledgeable and cares very deeply about microbiology.
