supposed to be a "bird-course" but it was not with her. I didn't like her personality or her lectures - they were dry but I still attended every single one. She also has online lectures after her lectures and expects you do do ALL readings! quizzes are easy, extra credit was helpful. didn't love the course or her... good grades are possible tho
Very entertaining lectures! One of the few course lectures I look forward to going too. Similar in pace and style as a TED talk
cares more about mentioning her husband and kids than actually lecturing. First exam was so hard she ended up scrapping the entire thing, after that they didn't get much easier. Hands down the worse prof I've had in my 3 years at Western.
Reads off PowerPoints word by word and adds nothing to the class. Just take social psych with anyone but her
She is the worst. How can one make such a fun course (social psychology ) a nightmare. I took it as an elective, biggest regret of my term. She is a ridiculous grader, no sense whatsoever. Gives no idea of what the test is going to be like, no sample questions, no past exams. She is zero help with any questions you might have. What a waste.
Marked ridiculously hard. Do not recommend.
DO NOT TAKE HER COURSES! She is a ridiculous grader. I think she sits at home writes random numbers as grades. Barely gives feedback. She makes a course like social psychology a nightmare. Doesnt have a sense of normal garding ,if its out of 100, she starts from 80 for the best work and goes down by 10 marks for each mistake. Horrible teacher.
The least considerate prof Ive ever had at my three years at Western. She took a time like Covid that is hard on all of us mentally and purposely tried to make it harder on us. The exam questions are extremely hard and her grading is insane. This course was my elective and it is turning out to be the worst grade I have had since first year.
Exams are marked very unfairly with unclear marking schemes. Was recommended by a friend to take it for the interesting content but ended up being my worst grade and unenjoyable because of this prof. Would stay away!
Do yourself a favour and don't take this course with her unless you must. Gives bad grades without providing ANY feedback and intentionally makes the course harder than it needs to be. Her lecture videos are not helpful, only regurgitating the slides & every example she'd provide was related to US Politics. Stop that. Take this with someone else
Terrible prof, made me want to never take another Psych course again. She constantly brings up her husband like anyone really cares. Thank you for completely destroying my entire perception of happiness
Was really looking forward to this class and now regret taking it. The content is really cool, but the grading is super weird and unclear. The midterm was hard and super-specific and she doesn't give back feedback for anything. The reviews on here are accurate.
amazing lectures. easy to follow her in lecture videos. doesn't read off slides. she gives helpful and thorough feedback on the assignments. good exam marks are fairly attainable. very fair marker and very understanding. just a super fun prof and class overall. This is what I would say if it were true
She's probably the worst teacher ever and took her class being a bird personally and wanted to get payback. Would never take a course with this professor again. The content is super interesting but the way she grades is just disgusting.
I would not recommend taking Erin Heerey's class. Her lectures are unengaging and she reads directly off the slides. Her grading schemes are extremely vague and unclear and she marks assignments unfairly using artificial intelligence. Her exams are unreasonably difficult. She gives zero feedback on assignments and doesn't answer questions.
I enjoyed 2070 with Heerey! Although her exams were harder than others, it isn't extreme & she does give out a considerable amount of free marks (worth over 10% of grade). Lots of people are saying she doesn't give feedback but I don't think they reached out bc I emailed her multiple times and she was always willing to provide feedback on my work!
She tested way too many things beyond the course content. She expects you to know very specific details of the video lectures she posts. Not only were there over 500+ pages of PowerPoint slides, she also required you to know all the assigned textbook content. This course took way too much time and effort and exam was unreasonably difficult.
She made the online learning platform very messy/confusing- She read off the lecture slides, making this online course very monotonous, yet expecting us to answer her difficult exam questions. If you expect your students to answer difficult exam questions competently, then avoid reading off your lecture slides and try engaging the students instead.
Prof. Heerey took a class I was excited about and made it the worst one I've taken at UWO. She didn't provide clear feedback, even when asked directly, and blindsided us with her grading scheme. Her exams are excessively rigorous and formatted ineffectively. Content is great but because of Prof. Heerey, I'm never taking another psych class again.
The content of this course was super interesting! I think carefully listening to the lectures was pretty important as there were quite a few things she mentioned in lectures that were not on the slides. Her exams are much more focused on the big picture (how the different concepts work together) than on details, and was very application focused.
The content of the class was amazing but somehow the prof made it look so dry and uninteresting. Tests were insane. Didn't know where half the questions were coming from even with the book, lectures, and internet at my disposal Lectures were dry and boring. Only reason I did alright is because the content interested me and I did it online.
Prof for psych 2811A (statistics) and its brutal. Emphasized that this course "is not a coding class! so don't worry!" yet all the homeworks are coding. Midterm was half coding and when she gave out the short answer answers for the midterm, she only gave points on INSANELY specific details. she also switched the format of the final 3 weeks before i
Tries her hardest to make us all fail. Accused people of cheating on the midterm because of similar answers(it was open book to all internet resources so obviously we will have similar answers?) then changed the final exam format only a few weeks before the exam. Instead of online and open book, she changed it to PENCIL AND PAPER for a CODING EXAM.
Changed format of final exam a few weeks before. Literally says it's not a coding class but all the homework is coding and so was half of the exam. Forced us to code on paper in final exam. Accused entire class of cheating due to similarity in answers on an OPEN-BOOK EXAM. Her lectures make no sense her tests are ridiculously hard for no reason.
does not care about her students
unfortunately have to agree with everyone that this is easily one of the worst experiences I've had so far at Western, and not just because it is a statistics course. Professor Heerey did not seem to care about her students and made the final exam unnecessarily difficult.
This class was rough all across the board, even now near the end of I still struggle to understand what the point of this class was. Proff Heerey makes mediocre lectures which are hard to understand, she does not go into depth at explaining the concepts, just a genereal overview and expects you to understand. 10/10 would not recommend
unfortunately data sci is a great and interesting subject that is turned monotonous and painful by a lot of the psych stats profs. there is no winning. Heerey is no exception.
Graded fairly with some opportunity for extra credit. Often went on tangents about things which made her lectures hard to follow. Would often not explain the reasoning behind things or provide sufficient examples and insight as if we would have learned the material prior.
Her slides are extremely confusing and don't make any sense. The way she words her sentences makes absolutely no sense. She tries to make things extremely hard so that no one understands. Great labs!
The course was rough but doable. My only concern is that it was confusing talking with her because she'd alternate between being really nice, and jumping to assumptions and being passive aggressive.
This course truly needs to be revamped or after another prof available.
talks down to her students. extremely condescending and does not care about you. she spends excess time talking about her kid and speeds through the material. she reads off the slides and does not go into depth. she dismisses you from asking for feedback and looks down upon you like you should already know the answer. do not take this course
her infamy is well-deserved. doesn't teach course material in lectures and simultaneously expects students to know as much about the content as someone studying it for 40 years. passive-aggressive if you ask for help. loves to make instructions as vague as possible.
Dr. Heerey's statistics course was a major letdown. Her approach to teaching is not only vague but also dismissive, making a challenging subject even more inaccessible. Dr. Heerey often seemed indifferent to our confusion, answering questions with a sharpness that left many of us reluctant to speak up again.
dr. heerey's stats class? a maze without a map. explanations as foggy as a misty morning, and a side of sass that could outshine a sour lemon. asking questions felt like stepping into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. exams? more like a guessing game without clues. lesson learned: self-study is the real MVP here.

"It's the last class so now you don't have to see my ugly face every day." - Erin Heerey on the last class. She is so self depricating, it's not even funny just annoying. Her exams are not fair. Some of the questions are fine, and some you're handwriting 9 lines of code. Only took because it was mandatory.
She made all the videos for the Python coding labs, which was awesome. Null hypothesis significance testing is a difficult concept. She expects a lot on the exams, but I also found her to be fair. She has clear thresholds for question validity on her exams. A stats prof using stats effectively.
whoever wrote the review below is genuinely tweaking. dr heerey takes the thrill out of stats like it's her mission truly a talent to make something so dynamic feel like a chore. if stats were an adventure she'd be the detour no one asked for. buckle up for the ride of monotony with her
I don't know how to express in words what a miserable experience taking 2811 with Heerey was. Would give 0 out of 5 if I could. Absolutely nothing about this class was enjoyable.
So frustratingly terrible at her job - belittles students and suggested we ALL don't care or we ALL must be cheating off past labs when the ave for the midterm was low....there is one other thing that might cause a low ave: her poor teaching. Average midterm grade was something like 63...just awful. Stats can be SO cool and she makes it not ):
Professor Heerey was a tough grader, but gave feedback in class and labs. She genuinely wanted her students to succeed, even if her lectures could've been more organized. If you hate on Heerey, WAIT until you take 2802 with Macpherson, THAT'S when you'll realize that Heerey wasn't that bad, and you'll actually WISH she would teach you again.
Dr.Heerey complicates simple concepts and ends up presenting a boring and disturbing class. She is rude and disrespectful to her students and when I asked her questions, she showed all in disgust. I don't understand why any professor could be so impatient and offensive. Sincere advice to everyone, do not take her class!
Lectures were well-prepared and I learned a lot from her. She knew what she was talking about. Yes her exams were hard, but if you knew what you were doing that still should have been reflected in the grade.
I highly doubt the comment below me was posted by the professor herself. Anyone who has taken this class knows how terrible her teaching ability and attitude is!!!
She's a very fair professor. Not the best at teaching, but she's very competent and exams very fairly represent what's taught in the lecture. I'd recommend using supplementary materials online to help you understand the material more deeply so you can answer trickier exam questions. She even bumped some people to 70s so they could stay in honours.
Just awful. Truly just awful. Doesn't even know how to teach....
Every review on this page is true. She truly takes statistics, flips it over, and teaches it in the most difficult way you could imagine. Her exams are all trick questions and is incredibly difficult. To get a good grade in this class she would've wanted me to start learning python when I exited the WOMB.
she deserves every single one of her one star ratings here
Her ratings on here are not great, but I appreciate the obvious effort she has put into trying to help students succeed in her class - very responsive, SO MUCH extra credit. Exams were difficult but alternative assignments were easy to do well on. Don't let the reviews on here scare you - if you work hard and study you will be more than okay.
Worst professor you'll ever have, cannot teach if her life depended on it. Will belittle you and her exams are hard. Don't trust any good review
She's a funny person and she always shared stories about her kiddos. HOWEVER, as for actually course content, there was no textbook. You just had to study off her slides which could be pretty confusing at times. She did always respond quickly to emails tho! The exams were so hard I was lucky I got away with an 80 cause that was pure luck.
She was extremely rude, it is clear she does not care about her students and their success
Do not take this course if you want to raise your GPA. No point in studying either, you'll do better with chat gpt. Finesses the grades so you can't do exceptional.
Erin Heerey is the worst professor I've had at UWO—her lectures are full of backhanded remarks, and she constantly belittles students for asking questions. Labs are long, boring YouTube tutorials; she explains code once, then just copy-pastes. If you can avoid taking Stats 1 with her, do it. You'll save yourself a lot of frustration.
she is Okay
Not sure why there's so many bad reviews other than that she teaches stats and some people think she's too blunt. But she is actually a very caring prof. I found her lectures easy to follow and consider her one of the better psych stats profs at Western (which I know isn't saying much but still)
Blunt, rude, arrogant, midterms and exams very bad
Extremely Test Heavy with no practice questions Boring Lectures
This professor was extremely difficult to work with. They were often blunt to the point of rudeness when approached for help, and rarely offered useful or constructive feedback. They were not accommodating and showed little interest in supporting students. Their teaching style lacked clarity. Worst professor at Western
She is condescending and completely ineffective at teaching. Spends time on basic concepts while skipping over foundational or complex ones. Assumes one simple mention is enough for full understanding. Exams are far more advanced than what's taught, creating a major disconnect and leaving students likely to resent statistics in its entirety. Shame
I spent a ridiculous amount of time studying for the midterm and final and still did horrendusly, similar to the rest of the class. Prepare for the worst, and then prepare to have your nonexisrtent expectations disappointed even further. Exams are extremely difficult and many questions have no clear relation to the lectures.
So bad. I received 100 in Math 1228 and 1229, which is proof that I worked hard on studying this kind of material. However, her test does not relate to her lecture. Many of the things she tested do not appear in the lectures. You need lots of extra time to get a B. I am so pissed tbh.
The way she talks to students instead of encouraging students to grow, stunts it.
There's no way to succeed in this course
I haven't finished the course yet but I find her lectures very very hard to follow. She'll introduce one concept and switch topics halfway through the definition, making it very difficult to actually understand what she's trying to say. I do like that she puts subtitles on her videos but be prepared to google every new term as she doesn't explain.
She doesn't deserve to be a professor, I haven't even finished the course yet but every time I ask for help, she tells you to figure it out yourself. Doesn't explain things well, expects you to know how to code perfectly, and doesn't understand that the class she's teaching isn't a comp sci class but a psych course with psych students.
This is a required course for all psych majors and she doesn't teach in lectures, either gives a quiz or says it's a period for asking questions. Doesn't teach any of the code we're quizzed on, though we're all psych students so most of us are lost. Definitely the is the worst prof I've ever had.
This course's lectures and labs are entirely online, old videos that feature vague explanations of important and complex concepts while repeating the same simple concepts over and over. Also speaks in a very condescending way to students and seems to be genuinely angered by students asking questions or not understanding her poorly worded content.
Had her for PSYCH 2720 and it felt like she didn't want students to succeed.Constantly threatened AI detection and that her questions were curated to catch it, said a 77% average was “higher than I'd like,” and said the final would be "significantly" harder.Very pessimistic cares mainly about her research. Unless you need her for stats, avoid her.
Dr. Heerey is an excellent professor! Her lecture slides are organized and concise, and you can tell she wants her students to succeed. The midterm exam was fairly easy and straightforward. Achieving a final grade of 80+ is possible if you put in some effort into studying!
Wildly unapproachable, do not even think of asking a question. She's condescending and very rude. Shouldn't be allowed to teach and very clearly only there for her research funding. Does not care about the students. Genuinely felt anxiety just being in her classroom. Exams are somewhat fair though, allows a cheatsheet
Have you ever wanted to meet Helen Keller? If so, take this class and meet her for yourself. You will not be heard, seen, nor will she communicate with you. Doesn't answer questions well, and when she does it's with sass and annoyance. Tough grader and expects you to write essays for easy written answer on homework or exams.
I would rather get a blood transfusion in Haiti than deal with her again.
stats 2811 more like sass 101. erin heerey is an american prof who thinks sarcasm is a teaching method. literally so mean it feels like you're paying tuition to get roasted. grading stricter than a p‑value cutoff at 0.0001, and lectures vanish in eye‑rolls. warning: you'll leave with burns, not stats.
FUH THIS PROF YO. She is so rude and condescending. She GRABBED my exam paper out of my hands and then peed on me jk she didnt but may as well have because as soon as clock struck last minute of exam time, she was ready. she's like a volture.
The final was literally a guessing game, yes, you have 2 cheat sheets, that you could use for nothing. Questions included concepts that we have never seen before, including making questions intentionally tricky on already difficult concepts, having to rush through the whole thing. People were crying, and now I leave school stressed about my grade.
this is the worst class i have genuinely ever taken. any positive review on here is probably written by erin herself. she is condescending, and is the most unapproachable prof ive had the misfortune to experience. exams are impossible to study and prepare for, and she expects the absolute most from students while providing the absolute minimum. no.
She should be reported to the school for how she handles her exams. She does not care about anyone and expects you to know beyond what's taught in the course. I hope she boosts the final mark so I don't have to see her again.
The worst final I have ever taken.
very bad experience. unfortunate for those who genuinely have a passion in pursuing an honours in psychology and no longer can because of the utter unfairness of this class and exam and won't make the 70% cut off. so much work put in during the course with labs and assignments just to have it demolished by the final. awful doesnt begin to describe
Worst professor ever, I have never been in na exam where everyone felt like they had failed. 5 people came out of the room crying, not to mention her practice exams are nothing like the actual exams. I don't know how you can even prepare for her exams because half the content will be stuff you never heard of and she loves to trick you.
What is everyone's problem here I can't understand for the life of me. Exams were completely fair, term work as a bit tedious but was offset by the fact that the online lectures were easy and short also she literally gives you 3% of extra credit?? As a professor she's more than helpful in probing you into the right direction without being snobby.
If this course was taught by literally anyone else, I would not have begged to be hit by a bus every time stepped on campus. Took TWENTY marks off our midterms to normalise the grades as they were too high. Don't make your exams online unproctored if you don't want students to do well? A million weekly perusall readings too.
Words fail to describe this abhorrent experience. I wouldn't be shocked if Professor Heerey is on a mission to make as many students fail as possible. Asking for help is a humliation ritual, exams have the most diabolical questions on things she never even mentioned. If you don't need your will to live anymore, take stats and poof it's gone.
She is absolutely insufferable. Bad attitude, bad at teaching, rude, condescending, unapproachable, and sassy. Literally all the qualities you wouldn't want in a prof. Don't take any class with her unless its mandatory. Constantly accusing students of using ai on un-proctored exams, took 20 marks off our midterm to "normalize" grades.
How can a prof be so bad at teaching? Not even trying to push or challenge students, just sets them up for failure with exam questions where the depth required was nowhere near what her “lectures” covered (just reading off slides). I stopped sharing my research data halfway through term - don't want it anywhere near her name.
Why does she have to talk to students in a way that humiliates them? Wasn't she a student before too and doesn't she know how it feels?
