She's a nice lady, but way too strict on things that shouldn't matter as much... she's probably like that because shes new. If you are late, she won't accept your work. There are better professors at UT.
She makes things harder than they have to be. I suggest taking someone else.
she is a great professor. she is super smart and knows what she is talking about. although she is very picky she does have a lot of useful information to share. She is just the type of teacher who knows what she wants and how she wants it. She is trying to prepare us for grad school which i find to be extremely helpful.
Good luck trying to get an A with this professor...it's impossible. She grades homework assignments SO harshly and you have two HUGE projects called SLP's that are worth about 50% of your grade that you will NOT get an A on. She admitted that people rarely even get B's on the SLP's & you should be "proud to get a C" on them. Pick another professor
Great teacher! If you attend class and pay attention and do the assignments it's not too hard to succeed. Very interesting, and knows what she's talking about. Gives good examples to help understand the material. Very sweet lady.
She is a really great teacher. She actually makes the material interesting and she makes you want to go to class yo learn more. I highly reccommend her. If you do your work an study for the exams (which is not hard at all since everything is from the powerpoints) you will get an A in her class.
TAKE ANY CLASS YOU CAN WITH HER!! She gives the best examples in class that make everything so easy to remember. She's a fair grader, doesn't stray from the syllabus. The tests consist of 35 multiple choice, 5 fill in the blank, 2 short responses. The short responses are relatively easy to predict. Favorite psych teacher so far!
She is great! Best teacher I've had so far. She gives excellent examples that relate to what she's teaching. Her tests aren't hard if you study. She is a harsh grader when it comes to projects but as long as you ask questions and communicate you'll do fine! She has a lot of passion and definitely knows her facts.
1. So sweet and an AWESOME professor. She makes you love the material and you want to come to class. Great examples given and makes sure everyone understand the material. LOVE HER!!! GREAT Personality. 2. She is tough. Tough grader on the SLP essays and Exams are HARD. 5 assignments, 3 exams, final, SLP Part 1 and 2 (DO THAT EARLY for any profes)
Horrible, way to strict, her tests are ridiculous. Take someone else.
Very knowledgeable and you will learn, but she is WAY TOO STRICT and her exams and work in general are IMPOSSIBLE. The SLP essays are graded on such a hard scale it's unreal. Just save yourself the hassle and take someone else.
this is by far the worst professor at ut, she is a terrible person in general and is EXTREMELY hard, do not take this woman. She will do anything to make you miserable. She loved seeing me struggle in her class and did not care to help me at all. She has a final paper and if it is not word for word the way she wants it she will fail you.
Awful experience. Teaches statistics in a really different way than all the other department members and is SUPER detail oriented. She will find any little flaw. Everything has to be perfect. She is inappropriately tough. She likes to say that we are free to ask her questions, but then if you ask a question she tells you that you should know it.
While she is a great teacher and knows a lot about what she is talking about, it is almost impossible to get a good grade in her class. This is the second time i am taking her (before for Child Psych) and I don't think I'm going to pass this one. Her tests are extremely hard and she isn't approachable at all. So hopefully you can teach yourself
Do not take her. I don't care how great of a writer you think you may be, she will destroy your paper. If there is any sort of tiny little flaw within your paper, she will take off major points. She basically calls you stupid without saying it outright. So, I repeat, do not take her unless you enjoy getting terrible grades.
She is a tough teacher do not get me wrong, but she warns everyone of this when the class starts. There are no surprises. She does not give extra credit and I guess for some people if you do not spend a good amount of time giving real effort into your paper she will mark you down. Nice person. Strict, but very willing to help if you ask for it.
Her tests really are not hard if you study and read the book. She isa tough grader on writing and her class requires time and effort, however I think that she's an awesome teacher. Very friendly and approachable. Not an easy A but i really enjoyed her class
I'm an A student and this class was rough. She never clarifies what she wants in terms of papers and writing assignments yet they are worth like a third of your grade. She's condescending and and her comments on papers are rude. I squeaked out an A somehow, but I do not recommend taking her if possible.
DO NOT TAKE YOU WILL FAIL. She gives pop quizzes which you think will boost your grade - NOPE. They are generally 3 questions and the average is 1/3. The exams are extremely difficult and she won't help you. ALL exams are cumulative. You need a C to move on and a lot of people don't even get that. My class started at 18, ended at 7 and I got a C.
Dr. Koterba is a great teacher and I got a lot out of her class, but she is not very nice. She thinks she is funny and sarcastic, but she is actually just rude and insensitive. She grades her papers harder than my WRITING teacher does. Expect to study at least 8 hrs to get an A on test. Really great teacher but not a great person.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I loved what we were learning about, but she made it so hard to like it. I had the highest grade on the first test, but ever since then she threatened to fail me TWICE. For reasons that were not my fault at all. After talking to people in the class she had done the same to them. HORRIBLE
Her lectures are great. I rarely had to study for test, just because I paid attention during the lectures and read the assigned chapters. However I feel that her expectations of the essays required for the project you must complete, were a little too high. Be mindful when you take her section. If you are poor at writing, take another professor.
Her lectures are great, really learned a lot from this class. Although her lectures are good, that's about it. There was a lot of papers and she's a stickler about the content in them. She comes off really cool and laid back but when it comes to the course material and helping her students she does NOT care. I DONT RECOMMEND
Dr. K is a tough prof and she makes that clear from the beginning. She is not here to play games or to waste your time or hers. You will learn and the lectures and content will be amazing. But do not cross her or you will regret it. Do not take her class as a joke. Do not think this is a class where things can be done without care.
The night before every lecture, you're required to read the chapter in the book, do the quiz online on Pearson, and then come with the PowerPoint slides printed out. You're not allowed to use phones or computers in her class; you must hand write your notes.
Try not to take this class with a heavy course load. Your entire semester will revolve around this class. It is a SERVICE LEARNING CLASS so you will have to volunteer 30 hours (about 3-4 times a week). Professor is extremely hard and has no problem failing students, tests take weeks to study for and there are about 16 papers.
worst professor
On top of the 30 hours of volunteering outside of class it is a lot of work. I enjoyed the class and she makes the material interesting to listen to during lecture. She is a very hard grader on the 12 papers you have to write and does not say what she expects in each one. You need to study for the test but the papers should be your major concern.
Professor Koterba gets such a bad rep on here but she is a phenomenal teacher. Her lectures are interesting and she is very straight forward. She will not hand out grades, you will have to work for them. Read the chapters in the book and come to class as much as you can because she will talk about things during class that aren't in the book.
Currently taking her, she is a great teacher to be honest... Very inspirational and knowledgeable, classes are fun and engaging. Yet, if you expect an easy pass this isn't for you. You WILL have to work hard, and she is very critical (because she wants you to learn, no reason to take it personal).
Idk why Dr. Koterba gets so many bad reviews on here! I love her she is so sweet and loves teaching this class. She wants you learn and you will have to work for an A but she makes it fun. There are a bunch of papers you have to write but that comes with any psy210 class.
Professor K is a good teacher in the aspects that she knows how to teach the subject. BUT I would stay far way from her as she will degrade you, make you feel like you are not smart or good enough, and has racist tendency towards you if you are a minority and she feels like you are excelling. She likes to brag about how smart and perfect she is.
She is very nice but when it comes to the actual class which is supposed to be 200 level, she makes it seem as if it were a 400 level class. The workload is a lot but the frustrating part is how tough of a grader she is and will take off points even for punctuation errors. never actually tells you whats on the exam so that's why everyone does bad
She grades papers way too hard and the tests are way too specific compared to the little information given in her lecture slides.
She is honestly the worst teacher I have had at University of Tampa. She grades papers way too tough for no absolute reason. Her tests are extremely hard, and way too specific. Her class is unnecessarily hard for no reason because it is a level 200 class. I had to withdraw from one of her classes cause the work load was INSANE. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Worst professor at the UT. Its crazy cause I would have never thought I would be writing a comment on rate my professor lol but nah. She treats her level 200 classes like they are 400 or something. She is irrational with the work load and has no understanding for students. She acts like her class is the only one you are taking. Garbage professor!!!
Shes really not as bad as everyone says. Yes, she is very tough. She makes you work for your grade. Yes, she assigns a good amount of work but its nothing you cant handle. At the end of the day if you have an issue she will talk it out with you & is understanding. She really does care about her students and wants them to succeed.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Koterba. She is an amazing professor. If you think you can slack off, you wont do well, this class requires a lot of hard work. It is a tougher class but Dr. Koterba was so helpful and accommodating. She cares about her work and her students, and I loved having her as a professor.
Professor Koterba seems like a nice person but once you have questions she is not very helpful. She takes a long time to answer you and her directions are not clear. She treats this level 200 class like it is more serious than it needs to be. If you work or are taking another challenging course at the same time then don't take psy w/ her.
I think Dr. Koterba is a great professor, she may come off harsh sometimes, but it is only to better you as a student. If you're a student that likes to learn and work, then take her she is perfect for you. If you're a slacker, I suggest finding another professor. She cares about her students and will happily work things out with you if needed.
I absolutely LOVED my child psych class with Dr. Koterba. She was so understanding and easy going during the semester while dealing with COVID. She was caring and easy going in class everyday and went out of her way to explain assignments to us. I absolutely would recommend taking her class
very demeaning and rude.
Please do NOT Take Professor Koterba! She makes class so much harder especially during COVID. I swear she has a god complex and she thinks her class is the only important class and you should focus solely on her class. She grades you based on the video lectures! Yes, you get graded based on watching lectures. Too hard, rude, and condescending
Took a year ago, only B Ive got in my college degree, now Im a senior. Shes a kind person but awful prof. Tests were awful; no respect for if you are genuinely sick or if you need help. Paper was a lot of work but clear instructions. Exams were the worst part, very difficult. Dont recommend at all
One of the nicest psychology professor, but who hurt you girl? Shes so rude when it comes to grading and wants you to fail. If your a point away from an A, she wont give it to you. Shes so rude in her comments for no reason. Definitely picks favorites.
Such a sweet lady but one of the worst classes and professor I have ever had before. The class itself is extremely hard with crazy amount of in class and out of class work. Unfortunately, as a psych major you need it to pass. Definitely do not recommend this class or teacher.
DO NOT TAKE!!! professor does not care about her students. offers no help, rude to students.
I enjoyed the class itself, didn't care for millions of homework questions. There are pretty much 4 mandatory essays/ autobiographies that you are not told how to write but she grades them harshly. Honestly, I don't even know.
Do not take this class. She makes the work load ridiculous and if you care about your grade at all she makes it so frustratingly difficult to get to an A if there is any other class to take avoid it. That being said if you HAVE to pick people who you can work with in a group project and who care about their grade, you work on it constantly.
Dr. K thinks her discipline is the most important. She does not care if she fails you or makes you feel stupid. She grades hard to make sure you feel stupid and not intelligent. She does not care about anything but her informational opinionated stance. If you go against psychological ideas, run. If you value your sanity NOT TAKE HONORS.
Literally the best! If you take notes in class and study them, the tests aren't too hard honestly. If you meet with her during office hours to go over things as well she is more than willing to help. She truly does want her students to succeed and she knows that the classes she teaches are tough so she wants to help! Just be a good student tbh
This class was definitely the hardest I have taken, the grading is brutal even after getting my papers checked at the writing center. The harsh grading is justified by saying even if you get a C in the class that's good. There is no guidance for the final and a lot of information you are expected to know.
Awesome! You learn a lot if you're willing to try and work hard.
She's knowledgable on the subject but ruins it with her method of instruction. Exams were unbelievably difficult; essays worth 70 out of 100 points. Harsh grader on assignments. Group project had multiple convoluted steps and requires you to clear your schedule in spite of having other classes/work to attend a research conference. Don't walk, RUN.
This course should be required for all college students! I learned so much that helped me understand my own life. The class is also fun and you do a lot of different things (not just exams). Take this class!
Loved his class. Took along time to get grades back though
Reguardless of the work I put in, she makes the class impossible. lectures are the most boring waste of time. She doesn't help with studying whatsoever and when asking for advice about how to study, she gives the most general useless answers. No study guides, topic lists, or published powerpoints?! how does she expect anyone to do good? terrible.
Tagged as hilarious due to her insane amount of work and inconsistency and condescending behaviors throughout the sem.The grading is inconsistent and never makes any sense. Initially got the impression of being sweet and caring, but she doesn't seem to prioritize students' grades or well-being, making the class more difficult than necessary..
Dr. K grades subjectively and harshly, if your political opinions dont align with hers--she will dock points. They give you a detailed rubric but still grade on other stuff. If youre a business major, stay away;this class is meant for psych + writing majors. She gives general feedback and doesnt tell YOU how to do better. They force a bell curve.
could not a more harsh grader or worse professor at UT. the comments she offers are so unnecessary. She pretends to be nice and caring but then you see your grade and comments and it is the worst input offered. DO NOT TAKE HON 220. your GPA will drop no matter how good you are. a 200 level class treated like a 600 level. save yourself and skip it.
It might be wise to reconsider selecting this professor. She is challenging to work with and has been known to make her students feel belittled and miserable in her class. Best of luck if you decide to take her. She will make you feel inadequate. She deserves every bad comment she gets. I'd rather transfer than take another class with her.
I have no idea how UT hired this professor. She clearly does not like her job since she loves to give students bad grades and no feedback! I have no idea who commented that she liked to help because she doesn't. The most important thing about her is that she plays favorites; she will only grade those students fairly. Worst experience at UT.
There is no clear grading criteria whatsoever, and she will still fail you for not reading her mind. She sets rules that she then does not follow. Honestly, the content is really interesting, but it is not worth it.There are so many good professors at UT; do not waste your time with her.
The effect this professor has had on my mental health is so severe that I have been crying every night since the semester ended. She made me feel worthless and that everything I do is wrong, like I am going nowhere in life. I am even reconsidering changing my major. I don't understand why she is a professor.
Your grade will depend on how much she likes you.
Loved this class. Nothing was too hard.
I loved this class! It wasn't too hard and we didn't even have much to do. Just a final presentation. She's funny and nice.
This class wasn't hard, it just had a lot of different assignments. If you break them apart, it's fine.
I was worried about taking this class because it's just hard. But Dr. K really cared about her students learning. I am now taking stats 2 and I see how much she prepared us. A lot of the other studnets don't have a clue what's going on, but I do because she cared. I'm going to take antoher of her classes as
This was one of the best classes I took. It's all about what it's like to be our age It really helped me understand myself and I tell my friends about it all the time. amy my parents lol.
She's awesome. Love this class.
My favorite class!
Awesome! Would absolutely take again. Can't think of anything bad to say about her
Genuinely have no clue why or how she has bad reviews. This class was so incredible and insightful. I learned so much from Dr. Koterba and her input she gave to class. I would take her for every course if I could. LOVE HER!!!!!!!
I have no clue why Dr.K has bad reviews. Truly the best professor Ive had. She pushes you to be a better student by being on the tougher side of grading things, but its so worth it. She cares about her students and wants you to learn. Big research project, but it ends up being fun since you can chose what you want to do. Take her, shes awesome!!
I rly loved this class. It is very interesting and she gives a lot of assignment to boost your grade. There is def a lot of information to learn and this is not a course where you can get by without studying, but I would take it again. The lectures are rarely boring and I loved Dr. Koterba.
I honestly enjoyed her course and her as a person, I do agree that her grading did not make much sense. But the 1 star reviews I am seeing, I did not experience that and I am sorry that you did. Yes her course is hard, it's a 400 level class. Maybe she was just trying to prepare us for grad school since that's where most of us will go after UT
She is a very sweet person to your face. However, she will destroy you mentally with her grading. I worked the hardest in this class than any other and ended up with a not great grade. I got docked points for "political correctness" based off their political beliefs. We should not have to sit in class and be taught there are infinite genders.
I really enjoyed learning from Dr. Koterba. She truly has so much knowledge, and learning from her has been amazing. The class itself can be difficult from time to time, but she was always willing to help during office hours. She makes an effort to try and call on different people, which is really nice. I had a great experience with her in class.
This class is very lecture heavy and she doesn't post the slides so it's easy to miss things. The online homework questions take a long time to complete. She can be nice and enthusiastic during class, but she's passive aggressive when communicating outside which makes it a bit hard to get help and she isn't forgiving. Her grading is very tough.
Her class has so much work for no reason but it is interesting. Don't take it if you think you can sneak by and not do work- you will just fail.
She gives great lectures and is very knowledgeable, but is also very passive aggressive and has an ego. You have 3 tests with multiple choice and fill in the blank with out a word blank section. The word bank is very easy compared to the multiple choice section. Most questions are easy almosts writes them to mess you up. Is is tough grader.
If you're not a Psych Major don't take her. She's a tough grader for no reason at all, the smart books take forever to do, the tests are easy if you study. But she's passive aggressive and if you're not one of her favorites she'll write you off.
She's genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures cover the content really clearly, she's very knowledgeable and passionate about her stuff, and she really cares about students learning. Literally just read the book and pay attention in class, and ask questions if you need to and you're good.
Professor Koterba is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her work. I would ensure I pay attention during the lecture, since she doesn't post the slides on Canvas. Also, it's definitely not one of those courses where you can study the night before
