She's useless. She hasn't gotten grades back to us for harly anything...including assignments from the beginning of the semester. You'll have no idea what your grade is going into the final. She is flighty, unhelpful and teaches straight from the book.
I definitely recommend taking this class or any class with Dr. Lanphier. Her teaching style is laid back, she uses examples that are comprehendible and is extremely helpful if you need further assistance (very approachable).
Great class. I learned alot and it is compleatly applicable to a career in psychology. (abnormal)
DO NOT take this class with Dr. Lanphier. This was by far the worst class of my academic career. There are 2 tests that do not reflect anything talked about in class and 4 papers/projects. Dr. Lanphier does not answer emails and takes forever to get your grades back. It is almost impossible to get an A in this class.
Lanphier is a very nice lady, however it seems she is too busy or caught up in the rest of her life to properly devote a portion of her time to teaching. Takes too long too grade assignments/exams. Is always at least 10 minutes late to class. The course itself is not hard, however there are only 2 exams which makes it difficult to get a good grade.
This teacher is really nice, but she is kind of hard. If you study the notes and read the chapters you should be just fine. Her tests are a little ambiguous. Entertaining, though, because she has experience as a clinical psychologist, not just a teacher.
Don't take this class. The worst professor ever in my life. You cannot get A in this class though you study extremely hard. There are 4 tests and they are moderately hard but she grades really low. Always procrastiates to upload our grades so we don't know whether we are doing well or not. Endless note taking is required. Take other classes.
WARNING!!! Do not take a class with this teacher. Her tests are impossible to get a good grade on no matter how well you know the material, and she is NOT at all helpful when you try to talk to her about it. Her grading is inconsistant. And she takes a MONTH to get grades back. Late to class everyday. I dont recomend this teacher to anyone.
Very wise professor but extremely slow to get grades back. Shes ambiguous on grades and its difficult to get A's on the tests. She even tells you that. Loved the material and its very interesting but you must be willing to do the work
Do not waste your time; enroll in a different class. This professor is very intelligent, however, has an awkward grading scale and never explains the reasons for her grades-- oh and also ENCOURAGES to drop the course on black board because her whole class is failing-- very inconsiderate.
Took the online class...really disorganized. Sometimes tests don't appear on the days you're supposed to take them...same with discussion boards. Doesn't usually have things done when she says she will. Plus in the online lectures her kids are trying to get her attention in the background and it can be very distracting.
I read everything, take extensive notes from the book, and memorize everything and i still cant get higher than an 83 on her tests. Extremly hard grader and takes like 3 weeks to get tests back. Don't take her.
Stay away from this professor. She should not be teaching at the college level. It is impossible to get an A in her class. I have a 3.5 GPA But I got a C in this class. Stay away.
She is a really nice lady and is willing to help you, but at the same time is very busy. Tests are online and do not get officially graded from sometimes over a month, she is unclear of what she wants on the first couple of tests making most of the student's grades in the class bad. It's very difficult to get an A even with extensive studying.
I could not believe how unprofessional Dr. Lanphier was and how unrealistic in her expectations she was. For how unrealistic she was she would never answer emails or grade. She stopped grading halfway through the semester and I still haven't received grades back from her. Avoid her class at all costs!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! horrible, unorganized lectures. takes FOREVER to return grades. never explains what she wants from students and won't return emails. constantly late for class. forgets to post our blackboard assignments. treats students like they are stupid. seriously, just avoid this prof.
I have taken her for 2 courses and she is fun and very smart but way too busy. She hasnt graded our midterms and its been 5 weeks. answers emails rarely and never on the weekends. terrible with technology and accidently took the directions down for our final papers. the papers are due in a week and still no directions.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS! Constantly late, takes about a month before tests are graded, and then does not explain your grade or give feedback on tests. Knowledgeable in her field but not very good as a professor.
Prior to this class, I was really interested in the area taught in the class.I was motivated to get a good grade and learning as much as I could from class. Her teaching style is good, but she is NOT on top of things. It took her over a month to get to know my grade on my first exam AFTER THE FINAL WITHDRAWAL DATE.I suggest not taking this professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS OR ANY CLASS FROM THIS PROFESSOR. She is the worst professor I have ever had. She lies about when she will post grades/assignments/guidelines promising to post them and then doesn't. She has no respect for students and uses them to demonstrate senarios in class that are very anxiety producing.
What you hear about her is true. She takes a long time to grade tests, put up syllabus, and respond to emails. But if you go to her in person, she will give you feedback and help with your grade.People need to try harder on their end in order to succeed in this hard class.
Not very helpful... Doesn't grade work in a timely manner..
Online summer course.. worst teacher I have ever had. Doesnt explain things very well and her grading is ridculous. Do not take this class with this teacher!!!!
Very few opportunity for points and no margin for error. Ridiculously difficult class. Do not take.
Yeah she's pretty lazy about getting exams graded, but the way mine was set up, I pretty much knew what I was going to get even before she gave us the official grade. She's SUPER confusing about what she wants in the DB posts. She oftentimes contradicts herself. But communication was never a problem! Not so bad overall.
Absentee at best. Young recent ivy school graduate, will make you prove your knowledge from her point of view. That being said, a B will likely come with little effort. (online class)
This professor takes a long time to grade assignments. She is also unclear and arbitrary about her grading criteria. I have gotten excellent grades in all of my classes since I began my degree and this will be the first class I am likely not to pass. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It ruined my GPA!!!!
Shes genuinely really nice. Doesn't use powerpoints, just the board sometimes, but it helps you pay attention to the topics. A lot of student participation and group discussions in class. Her tests seem intimidating but they're open everything. Just understand the concepts. DONT expect grades to come back quickly, she's irresponsible in that sense
Dr. Lanphier is extremely knowledgeable about psychopathology. Her expectations are high, and she is a little bit condescending but itâ??s because she wants us to really know the material well enough to be her own colleague. She does take forever to grade, but she runs a private practice and has a young child on top of teaching. Give her a break!
Dr. Lanphier is very intelligent and an expert in the material, and also works as a child psychologist. She holds you to high standards, which is refreshing. This is not an easy A, but her stories are very interesting and she explains the material well. People don't like her because she's challenging and you have to think, but I think that's great.
She is very knowledgeable in her field. She has a lot of interesting stories, enough so that you remember them. All tests are open everything. But that doesn't make it easy. All questions are either short answer or essay. AND the instructions for the questions go deep. The first test, everyone's time ran out and nobody completed it all the way.HARD
Adequate teacher- I give her a solid B. She brings her experience as a private clinician to bear on the course material. I am a generally excellent student and really had to work for my A. She takes forever to get back graded work. Textbook unnecessary, but you learn exponentially more if you read it.
I am glad I read the reviews prior to taking her class, that way I wasn't too worried about her not grading things. She is a great teacher and has a way of weaving activities, stories, and group projects into her lectures. Pay attention, take adequate notes and you should do well. All tests are online, open note- open book.
I really loved Dr. Lanphier's style of teaching. She is clear, knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and approachable. I learned a lot in her class and would definitely take another one from her. Her tests are hard, but if you take good notes and go to class you will be fine.
Go to class, you'll get an A. She doesn't use power points, but she draws on personal experience which is awesome. The tests are pretty much about how to diagnose patients, so if you're interested in that, TAKE THIS CLASS. I loved this class :)
Lanphier brings in a lot of info from her private practice. Lectures are very interesting. Really bad at grading in a timely manner and doesn't review TA's grading. Interesting class to take but you must attend everyday because she doesn't use powerpoints.
Does not grade anything in a timely manner, doesn't post anything until the day before it's due. The amount of complaining from the class as a whole has been outrageous. Avoid if possible.
One of the worst professors I've had and I am a senior. It was ridiculous how long she took to get grades back. Her class was out of only 200 points and her grading is so subjective that it is hard to get a good grade, even if you understand the material. She does however make class interesting. 3 papers and two short-answer tests. AVOID. AVOID.
Very eloquent lecturer. She does well at holding attention by making class time interesting. Facilitates small group activities that are not graded. Paper grading and expectations were very reasonable. Test grading seemed harsh. Only two exams. Feedback and grading were very late. She is very nice and made accommodations. Brings her work to lecture
Takes forever to grade. We ended up having all 3 papers due in April because she took forever grading. Only 2 very long tests the whole semester. Also if you don't know a youth between ages 5-19 DONT take the class, you will need to interview them for the papers. But if you want to be a child psychologist Dr. Lanphier is the best teacher to take.
This class is the hardest class I've taken this semester. Exams are online. Half multiple choice, half short (LOOOONG) answer. Each "short" answer question is as long as an actual essay. Since they exams are half essays, grading is very subjective. It's really hard to get a good grade with her. AVOID HER AT ALL COST.
This teacher took forever to grade papers and exams. The requirements for the papers are poorly stated and this class has made me not want to take a class from her again.
Her grading is so subjective that it is hard to get an A on any one assignment. There are no set standards for assignments and she will find anything and I mean ANYTHING to deduct points for and the classes are out of 200 points total so each point is pretty important. Avoid at all costs, lectures are student discussion based, no slides.
Although is professor makes you work for your grade (because there are no slides to review and you MUST come to class), this class is VERY REWARDING! I learned so much during this course and I would take another class that she teaches. I cannot express how much I broadened my knowledge, thanks to her. Take notes, listen and read. AWESOME CLASS!
Her lectures are extremely interesting, so you will definitely learn a lot. This teacher takes a long time to grade paperwork, and her quizzes are extremely hard. If you take this class, you will have to work very hard in order to get an A. I do recommend her, because her lectures are exceptional.
Loved her class. She is very clear on what she expects. She keeps the class interesting and if she is asked something that she isn't sure about, she'll have her TA research it and discuss it. The tests were online and open to use any and all information. The short answers were graded hard, but she is clear about expectations and covered it in class
She takes a very long time to grade exams and papers. And when she actually does grade, the grades them hard. Her teaching style is based on actual experience working as a clinical psychologist rather than what's in the textbook. I enjoyed her class, but her exams are very hard and she doesn't provide feedback on them either.
She takes forever to grade assignments (until the last week of class or the week of finals) so you'll literally have no idea what your grade in the class is. She also never responds to emails and she grades REALLY hard. I don't know if she expects everyone to use her own terminology. I'd recommend avoiding this professor and taking someone else.
This class was AMAZING! She's a magnificent professor. She runs class with lecture only, no power points. She gives 5 quizzes that she warns you about a week before, based on readings. Tests are difficult but online so open-note. She gives great stories about her clinical practice. She expects a lot so class could be difficult for non-psych majors
Avoid this teacher at all costs. She wants you to basically type as if you're a psychologist. Doesn't care if you pass or fail
Had to drop her class. She's a terrible teacher and makes everything 1000x more difficult than it has to be. Waste of time and money. Choose another teacher that actually cares about students and gives more points so that you can actually make mistakes and not fail the class!!
Had her for PSY366. The course was based on 200 points total (3 exams, 2 short essays, 5 reading quizzes). The class was application based, so memorizing a few vocabulary words won't get you a good grade.
Solid teacher but not a lot of opportunity to get extra points. There's only 3 exams, some pop quizzes and 2 papers. The tests are tough and she doesn't use slides she just talks. Interesting lectures for sure but you definitely need to read the book for the tests and quizzes. I would take another course with her for sure.
Her lectures are full on information that you most likely need to record just to make sure you get all of the information she says. But if you ask her to repeat what she said more than once, there is a hint of an attitude when students (who obviously can't write at the speed of light) ask her to speak more slowly during her lectures. bewareacronyms
I have a 3.8 GPA, a junior, and have never done poorly in a class, until now. It's all reading a textbook and listening to her speak. There is nothing visual to help you understand the concepts, and I am a visual learner. She expects you to understand her terminology as if you are a psychologist as well. Worst teacher I've ever had. AVOID AVOID!!!!
Erin is a clinical psychologist and she should stick to that, she should NOT teach. She is a horrible teacher. What everyone is saying is so true about her. She does not care about you as a student and there is no room to mess up. only 200 points the whole semester so you can not mess up in her class. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST IF U CARE ABOUT UR GPA
SHE IS SO HORRIBLE. I recommend that you avoid at all cost if you care about your grades and GPA because she offered little points so you can not mess up on test or anythings. She gets a little attitude when you ask her to repeat something she said because SHE talks fast. She does not use PP so she only talks during lectures. AVIOD HER
She has an open-dialogue/story-telling type of teaching (no PPTs) and she is passionate and KNOWS her stuff - she's a clinical psychologist outside of class. She will answer any questions and the class keeps me engaged every time. 5 "pop" quizzes strictly from book, 3 online exams (take them w/ friends!) strictly from lecture, two 2-3 pg papers.
Overall, good experience. No lecture slides so if you're not an auditory learner it might be challenging. Go to class because she gives you material that is not in the text. Amazing class discussions, encourages students to think and participate.
Her class isn't for everyone. A lot of discussion but most points you can earn are from exams and quizzes. If you're not good at taking exams, (I'm more of a writing paper person), this class can be challenging for you. She doesn't normally give extra credit either.
I enjoyed this class, but if you don't go to the lecture you will fail without any doubt. The tests are open note and book but are primarily based on the lecture notes--so it's a must. Dr. Lanphier explains disorders really well and there is a lot to be learned from her.
If you are not an auditory learner stay away! - Does not post anything on Blackboard - takes over a month to grade tests - group presentations are not well organized - uses alot of acronyms during class The material is very interesting, yet the teaching style was horrible
Unavailable and unclear about what she wants. She's experienced in her field, and that makes her lectures interesting, but they are completely pointless when applied to class. She has no powerpoints, she has no online presence, her tests are online and she doesn't get back to you in time if something goes wrong.
I've taken 3 of her courses (As and Bs) and while they did not have your standard PowerPoint lectures and strict memorization. Your heart has to be present in the lectures and it's all easy from there. I'm working on my masters now, and her classes were the most relevant to the real world. I did not know how much these classes would impact me.
She really knows her stuff! She uses a lot of stories from her private practice, which makes it super interesting. You HAVE to go to class to pass, but it you go and pay attention (which isn't hard, cause she's pretty fun) you'll do just fine. Clear expectations for tests. Fair grader. Reasonable. She'll help you out any time you have a question.
I took the class online. She doesn't respond to emails. There's not enough points in the class for you to mess up a little. I have never failed a class at ASU until now. She is a tough grader and does not give good feedback. Even if you follow the guidelines for answering test questions you'll fail. There are no slideshows just reading.
AMAMZING LECTURES I've learned more from her than any textbook. she gives so many examples and she is all about conversation and participation. HOWEVER she doesn't use powerpoint and there are no notes online. COME TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES, you should be fine. She's my favorite teacher.
Unstructured, unorganized & unclear expectations. Class was discussion-based with everything written on a whiteboard, all in acronyms and shorthand. Didn't start adding in grades for everything till the last two weeks of the semester. Assignments seem easy but she grades strictly on projects for little things. I do not recommend.
Just the one of sweetest professors you'll ever meet. Knows the material and is great at explaining. Gives you opportunities to ask questions. There aren't many assignments in the class but you'll learn an incredibly monstrous amount of interesting information.
The WORST professor at ASU in my honest opinion. She does not believe in power points, so you have to listen and write down what she says. Also the textbook was useless and tests were almost impossible to pass. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take this class. The worst experience I've ever had academically at ASU.
This professor is one of the hardest professors I have ever had. There are no visual aids, and everything is lecture based. She makes interesting concepts extremely boring and painful to listen to. She uses way too many acronyms and expects us to keep up with it. There are only three difficult exams in the whole semester.
The course consists of 3 online tests, 1 group project and 1 discussion board post. The tests are open note and open book. The questions are from lectures and she does not use lecture slides. She does write important stuff on the chalkboard so, it is important to go to class or make friends with someone who is willing to share their notes.
Lanipher is VERY lecture heavy, but I honestly was okay with that. She gives you time to write everything down, and the content was incredibly interesting. Some people complain about her teaching style, but if you honestly enjoy psychology and are a good listener/notetaker, you will do fine in this class.
Really hard grader. Her tests are really hard to begin with and mostly short answer. You really have to work for it. The third paper involves interviewing a child in a therapeutic setting. Acts like we're experts in therapy when not all of us want to go into that after graduation.
I've taken Lanphier before, so I was excited to take her again. She doesn't use PowerPoints, but breaks down the information in a logical way. She encourages participation and open-minded thinking. She was a slow grader, which she wasn't when I took her before, which was annoying. Make sure to read the book, it is a helpful guide.
Great professor, easy and clear but graded by few things. Go to class, take notes, review and you will be all set.
She was a great teacher. Her lectures showed she has a lot of experience handling abnormal psychology. None of her lectures are posted, it's all her lecturing on the whiteboard, so it is very important to go to class unless you want to read the textbook. There are 3 exams, not necessarily a final.
She did not provide any notes or slides and assumed that her student knew all of her abbreviations. She talked so fast that it was difficult to write it all down. It took her over a month to grade the first exam. It's impossible to get ahold of her. Studied very hard but couldn't seem to satisfy short answer questions in exam. Very upset.
You can tell she is really knowledgeable and knows what she's talking about. She speaks in a way that students can comprehend, like engaging them in conversation. However, shessuper lecture heavy -no powerpoints or notes. She is not clear with how she grades & does not give feedback. All in all she's very nice, interesting, but slightly confusing.
She is very knowledgeable about the material she teaches, and she actively tries to engage the students. Unfortunately, her classes are lecture heavy. No PowerPoints, no sort of visual aides for the most part, and sometimes the information she provides is all written down on the board. All in all, she's an okay teacher. Beware of her tests.
I loved this class, the prof is very knowledgeable on the subject, but she is not accessible outside of class. Won't respond to emails in a timely manner or at all. TA seems to grade everything. Tests & assignments are online, open book/ note, and pretty easy. Wouldn't recommend her as a professor, but overall recommend the class for psych majors.
Dr. Lanphier is very sweet. She is lecture heavy & doesn't use ppts but she explains things good. Tests are all online and there are only 3 papers, one is a group paper which is fairly easy. She is very knowledgeable and uses examples of therapy which help out a lot in lectures. Going to class is important or else you miss a lot. Great teacher tbh
Lanphier is an amazing professor if you are taking the class to truly learn about disorders. She is lecture heavy & does not post them but this is the first class I have ever taken that I never even wanted to skip class because the material was both interesting & taught in an informative way. Be prepared to attend class regularly & take good notes.
WILL TAKE FOREVER TO GRADE YOUR TESTS. TOOK ONE MONTH FOR BOTH TEST 1 AND 2. DISCUSSIONS TOOK JUST AS LONG. I DIDNT KNOW WHAT MY GRADE WAS UNTIL THE VERY LAST DAY FOR HER TO POST THEM AND HER GRADING CRITERIA IS STUPID YOU CAN HAVE AN A ON CANVAS AND NOT WITH ASU'S FINAL GRADING SYSTEM.
Not a powerpoint type of professor. You do your notes based off of the words that come out of her mouth. So if you're a visual learner, don't do it. If you do not show to lecture to study material and take notes, good luck. Also she waits FOREVER to grade work. Syllabus wasn't posted until months into course. Possible to pass. Good luck LOL.
Amazing lectures that are not powerpoint run, each lecture is exciting and captivating. Offers some extra credit, 3 exams, "Pop Quizzes" (she tells you when each quiz is), and a few papers. My only complaint is on how long it takes her to grade assignments. I only had half of my grades posted until the day of the grade deadline.
If you participate in class, LISTEN, and take good notes you will pass with flying colors. Transitioning online made this class better, bc lectures were recorded with slides. I was doing alright for Jan, Feb, & Mar but stepped up my game in quarantine. Great prof who runs her own clinic, and teaches from experience in her field. Love!
She DOES NOT hold to her word. If she makes an announcement stating quiz 1 will be posted that evening, check back in a couple days. She attempts to make the approach that she is "helping" by not releasing assignments till the last minute. If it's due on 8/5, she'll let you have access to it on 8/3 afternoon. No regard for students or their time.
I have mixed feelings on recommending this class or not. The professor is a very good teacher, has engaging lectures and is a sweet person. HOWEVER she took forever to insert grades and didnt get almost any grades in until the last week so you dont know how youre doing. also waits forever to post assignment instructions
This professor is actually a good professor teaching wise. She helps you think as if you were in her shoes and bases a lot of test and quizzes on logic which is helpful so you don't just memorize info. However it is difficult to capture everything she talks about. She also isn't very responsive to emails, and she also doesn't grade very fast.
I am currently taking the class. I felt it was necessary to post a review now. If you have a disability or struggle with learning, this professor is very difficult to work with. She is inaccessible outside of class, post syllabus, assignments, and quizzes 30 minutes before class starts- which is stressful. If you are easily flustered don't take it.
Expect to teach yourself
Dr. Lanphier is a nice and is very intelligent person. But some of the lectures can be vague when it comes to applying the criteria to tests. As the tests have questions that seem preference based and are mainly for Psyche majors to understand. She is not good at putting up lectures even after students have asked on multiple occasions.
Lanphier is definitely an expert on the subject, but its pretty clear that she doesnt care about her students success. She records the zoom lectures but rarely, if ever, actually posts them to canvas. Also does not respond to emails from students and it takes her months to grade anything so you have no clue what your grade is until the last week
would not recommend taking this Professor at all.
Professor Lanphier deserves a much higher rating than what is given on rate my professor. I think that a lot of people oppose her because the class is not easy (which isn't a bad thing!). If you actually put the work in, you will realize that the course material is extremely interesting!
Professor Lanphier is most definitely an expert in her field. She is well-spoken and will be able to answer 99% of your questions. You will have to put in the work for your grade, but that's how any class should be anyway. Sure, sometimes grades are posted late, but why should that matter? It shouldn't She's great at teaching so just pay attention!
This Professor: - Does not give grades back for months - Is very contradicting in her teaching - Does not care that the majority of her class is struggling - Went against syllabus Overall, really struggled in this class due to her teaching. I HIGHLY recommend taking literally any other Professor for this course.
I had to teach myself in this class. The Textbook and learning objectives are your best friends. I read every page and did note cards to pass the quizzes. Great lecturer, but not my style. I like visuals, but she is great for auditory learners. She writes her quizzes fairly. I enjoyed her 2 group projects and working with other students.
I relied heavily on the textbook and a classmate's notes. The lecture was helpful but I was able to understand the best with reading. A lot of my classmates struggled as did I and there weren't many resources for us outside of the lecture. The grade is HEAVILY based on quizzes one was dropped though and it was more often than a not open note quiz.
I have taken this professor twice now and I speak from experience when I say that she puts the least amount of effort into her students as possible. She does not answer emails, she is not accessible outside of class and she gives no direction in her assignments but grades incredibly hard.
The class is pretty easy, but the professor is impossible to contact and has inconsistent grading. There are a good amount of group projects, which aren't my favorite but they weren't difficult. Basically, if you have a good understanding of psychology and are willing to study you will do fine, just don't expect responses to any of your emails.
Wow. This was the worst professor I have ever had. It was a shame because I truly love this material and wish I had a professor who actually cared. Yes, I got an A in the class. But I would never take any class with this professor ever again. You can tell she does not care about her students. She was anything but helpful.
She really won't grade your assignments until she feels like it, she won't give you a rubric or study guides for any assignments or tests. Which in a way it's good but not when you don't know if that was good enough for her grading criteria.
Great teacher. Lot's of experience in her field so she has many stories to go along with lectures which helps a lot with understanding. She does not take attendance but go to class as her quizzes can be a little hard and are heavily based off textbook and lecture notes. If you take good notes, you'll be sure to pass. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Lanphier is probably the 2nd worst professor I've had. This is my second time retaking this class with her and I can safely say she's the problem. She is not understanding of technical difficulties with quizzes even though the whole class experienced it but would not let us make it up. She doesn't provide lecture slides, and isn't compassionate
loved this class it was extremely interesting and the professor went into depth about the different disorders, she really cares about her students understanding her concept. She does take a long time to grade and it kinda gets frustrating especially close to the end of the semester. Def need the book and need to understand the concepts for quiz,
Dr. Erin is a great professor w/ great lectures however this class makes you work for it. She is a tough grader but is always willing to help and give feedback. The class consists of quizzes, hw assignments, and a group project. Read the textbook! I cannot stress this enough, her lectures have a lot of info but the book is where she pulls q's from
She is extremely slow when it comes to grading and you wont know your grade until the very end of the class. When the class would ask her about grading our assignments all she could say is that she was really really behind. She is also almost impossible to reach through email and does not get back to you within 24 hours as her syllabus states.
Professor Lanphier is well-spoken and has interesting lectures, but it isn't really my style. The quizzes are mostly/mainly based on the readings in the book. Professor doesn't answer emails. So expect to read a lot. Quiz heavy. I would not recommend this Professor.
Great professor who is well-spoken and makes the material easy to understand. However, there is a LOT of reading, and the quizzes are all based on the readings rather than the lectures. Quizzes once every few weeks, very few assignments and one group project. I've taken Dr. Lanphier twice and her classes are fairly easy and always interesting!
A nice professor but never responds to emails. Clearly knowledgeable but cares more about her other job. Did not go by syllabus and does not seem to know how to use canvas. If you don't attend you won't do well on the test as there are no power points, you can only rely on a friends notes, so don't get sick, she won't be understanding.
She does give credit but my god do I regret her class. Her assignment descriptions are convoluted, shes allergic to emails, has the computer skills of an old man, her grading is awful, her quizzes make no sense and shes so tone deaf at times. SO. MUCH. WORK. oh and no lecture slides. ever. I started counseling just to cope w her class.
Teaching style is very accessible and ties in well with the textbook. The canvas course is blank at the start, but all the due dates are in the syllabus. If you do not look at the syllabus, a quiz may appear out of nowhere in canvas on the day it is due, but it isn't technically a pop quiz. Several short papers due on conceptual topics.
Psychology is very interesting, which is my major, but the way the professor does her teaching is somewhat unhelpful, for one, she doesn't respond to any of our emails, she doesn't grade our homeworks right away, and the quizzes are not covered in notes, but primarily on our readings. At least she gives extra credit. I would not recommend it.
Overall don't take this class. This class is very test-heavy and assignment descriptions are confusing. I tried reaching out by email because I was having a hard time and she never replied.
Dr. Lanphier is was my favorite professor at ASU. I had her my first semester and my last semester. I was so grateful to have a professor who was so in love with their work. The fact that she is a professor and also has her own practice is amazing. Not only does she teach you a lot but she provides you with next steps after graduating college.
Dr. Lanphier is the worst! She doesn't respond to any emails, she doesn't put any grades in, and is so technologically challenged that I'm pretty sure she can't even work her own phone. There's nothing on canvas, due dates change constantly, and her tests are very difficult. I had to email the psych department due to her horrible teaching skills.
I could not bring myself to go to this class because she just lectures at us for an hour and I retain nothing. She has no slides, does not post homework on canvas, and does not respond to emails. If you are not the type of student who goes to every class and takes detailed notes, spare yourself the confusion and worry. HW was never on canvas cal
I really enjoyed this class and the professor has always been nice and supportive.
She is from the ENERGIZE initiative, yet her teaching method contradicts her involvement with the initiative. A lot emphasize on how to communicate with a professor as if professors are who they claim they are, but there are no emphasize on how to communicate with a students. I took this class despite the reviews because of the need to graduate.
This class itself was very interesting and I think Dr. Lanphier was very qualified and informative to teach it. It is, however, a lot of work to attain and maintain an A. She does not use any slides in class and it is very important for you to take detailed notes in order to do well in the quizzes. Very few things are graded so they weigh heavy.
Dr. Lanphier's courses do not include a lot of things that are graded and they weigh heavy making it difficult to have an A. The content itself is really interesting and while it is a lot of work and there are no lecture slides, I learned a lot. Her class is not very traditional and you need to stay on top of everything that's due.
Very disorganized and is hardly accessible outside of class. Doesn't post assignments and changes due dates often. Takes forever to grade. The class is interesting and she knows what she's talking about, but does not use lecture slides and lectures were very all over the place and we were behind on content. 5 quizzes, 3 papers, 1 group project.
Horrible professor. Extremely unorganized, she never posts the assignments on time or posts a description in Canvas. So if you waited to do the assignment, you won't even remember what it is by the time she opens up the submission. Only lectures, no visual aid at all. Gives minimal feedback and is a HARSH grader. Do not take.
Most mids professor I've ever had. Doesn't seem to care whatsoever about students and their learning. Super unresponsive via email, honestly it's a coin flip whether or not she responds. There were only 3 assignments the entire semester yet it takes over a MONTH to get feedback on a one or two-page paper, and the feedback is borderline useless.
Dr. L is a practicing psychologist & includes personal anecdotes and advice on working in the field..super valuable and interesting! She does a wonderful job connecting the content to real life, as well as recognizing the current flaws within the field of clinical psych. Shes approachable & kind & offers opportunities for scholarships/research/work
Her teaching method is not for everyone. lecture heavy w very few assignments & quizzes. The guidelines for these assignments are flexible, she just wants you to dive deeper into the content. This class format is perfect for me, but if you prefer more structure/are a visual learner & struggle to pay attention w long lectures u should avoid
When I took abnormal psych last year, I thought this would be the only time I took a class with, but then I took clinical psych! And to this day, she is very unhelpful! On a more positive note, we were allowed to use notecards on the final 2 quizzes! But for those who love psychology, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER AT ALL!
Let me keep it real; Dr. Lanphier is extremely knowledgeable in psychology. However, you must be aware of your learning style. If you need structure and bulleted slides to organize your notes, this is not the instructor for you. There are no slides provided. I swapped classes solely to retain information and structure it to my learning style
She's really sweet and understanding and lectures are fun and interesting.
I loved Dr. Erin. She's encouraging & knowledgeable in her field. This was my favorite class of my entire college experience. NO IDEA how she got such a poor rating on here, she is amazing! She can be a little disorganized (doesn't make rubrics available until late and barely had a canvas ready for class) but she made up for that in her lectures.
Professor lectures are just her talking. If visual learner, learning materials from lecture is very difficult. Few assignments/quizzes, everything is very heavily weighted. First essay is a partner essay. Hopefully you find a good partner within the first weeks of class as you guys will share a grade on this essay.
Easiest class ever. I never went to class and finished with over 100%. So much extra credit it is insane. If you score less than an A+ in this course, it is purely due to a lack of effort. She is so knowledgable and uses the class to demonstrate examples. Interesting, funny, and only 5 quizzes and 3 short mini-essays required. Take her if you can!
Pretty good professor. Online classes may not be formatted well and she uses a textbook primarily for online. In person classes she'll run lecture herself. Class is 50% quizzes and 50% assignments. She also provides lots of extra credit. Take notes from her lecture or read the textbook, study, and use critical thinking to be successful in her class
I am currently taking my 3rd class by Dr. Lanphier and she is amazing idk how she has such a bad score. if you're a visual learner I would say this class probably isn't for you but she uses the white board a lot and I guess those count as visuals? This class was so easy you fr have to try to get anything below an A. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT!
By far the most unorganized class I've taken at ASU. Basically no course work outside of exams which are ridiculously hard, email given in syllabus isn't even her actual email, class doesn't follow syllabus at all. She puts very little effort in to teaching this class and it shows.
Dr. Erin is a very sweet person and a great teacher, however, if you are a visual learner or miss class a lot, I would not recommend this course. Lectures are verbal and she doesn't post notes on Canvas, just criteria for disorders but she goes more in depth in lectures.
Dr. Lanphier's class is a challenge, but rewarding for dedicated students. Lectures are engaging, though it's crucial to take thorough notes. unstuckstudy can complement your studying alongside the textbook. Overall, an interesting course for psychology enthusiasts.
The worst professor I've ever had. Syllabus is wrong, email is wrong, takes months to grade things yet is unforgiving with time. The tests are incredibly difficult and don't correlate to her messy notes.
Dr. Lanphier is a knowledgeable psychologist and a kind heart, but this was the most disorganized class I've taken at ASU. Very inconsistent due dates on assignments, no assignment grading rubrics provided on canvas, very late grading. This is a lecture heavy course and if you want to know what's happening, attend lecture and ask her questions.
I honestly dont know what everyone else is talking about, she is a great professor and as long as you show up to lecture and take notes you will do well. If you're a visual learner it is a bit more difficult but show up and take notes and its a good class. She is also very nice, and in class if you have questions she is very helpful.
She's nice and knows her stuff, but the class is super unorganized. No PowerPoints, barely uses Canvas, and nothing gets posted. If you miss class, you're lost. She didn't post our final project rubric/submission link until the NIGHT it was due. Most confusing and unorganized class I've taken.
Extremely disorganized. Be prepared for last minute cancelled classes and pushed back deadlines with no rubrics. No canvas for 3 weeks and would rarely add content she mentioned in class. Lectures weren't really lectures, she had an outline and just talked. No real notes, just write what you can during the discussion. Hard exams, no study guides
This class was AWFUL. It was basically read 100 pages of this book and take a lockdown browser quiz. No video lectures or engagement from the professor. She would post assignments the day they were due, and did not stick to the schedule in the syllabus. Very frustrating.
The teacher is very smart and knowledgeable on her area of expertise, but her lack of organization is severe. No lectures or course material outside of the textbook, all the due dates and chapters were incorrect in the syllabus. It felt like I was paying to read a textbook that I also had to pay for. Also exams are very difficult.
Knowledgeable but gatekeeps her slides, barely posting anything on canvas and posting assignment rubrics at the last minute. Requires a textbook but you can get away without needing it. Attendance isn't mandatory but since she barely posts, it might as well be. First test is the hardest but once you understand how tests are set up, they're easier.
Absolutely the worst class I've ever taken. Do not take this class by any means unless you want to have the worst semester of your life. She was consistently late to class and never posted anything on Canvas. Such a harsh grader and the stuff on the test was nothing we talked about in class. Please save yourself and do not take this class.
Great Teacher helped me a lot.
