So nice! Everything is clear, midterms were very reflective of the course!!
Very intelligent woman who is passionate about the issues she lectures on. There is always a great flow to her teaching style that makes her lectures engaging. Her midterms are exactly what is taught in class and what is clearly found in the textbook. She is extremely approachable and helpful, which is hard to find in a prof these days I find.
Heavy amount of readings, but her exams are really straight forward. Her lecturing needs improvement, but the material was interesting.
Awesome Prof! she's super clear and helpful. Her lectures are always interesting and she brings in a lot of great guest speakers! Love this class.
Great prof, super easy to understand. Is young and has current information, very passionate about Criminology. Not extremely helpful but the lectures and readings are basic enough. Take home final exam, multiple choice midterms, no other assignments.
teaching style is very clear and understandable. exam's are fair/easy (30 VC questions). slides are posted on VC campus. take home exam (5 page position paper), lot's of guest speakers, but heavy readings assigned each week.
The information you learn in this class is pretty interesting, it's all about who commits crimes and why they do. The professor made it very easy and interesting because she's current and relevent. LOTS of class participation in her lectures... Exams were 30 M/C each and a take home exam (5pgs). Readings were on the heavier side, but enjoyable.
Erin is a total beauty. She is clear in what she expects of you, there's 2 midterms worth 30%, only 30 questions and all easy multiple choice, and a final paper, but no final exam! Best course I've ever taken, I absolutely recommend this to anyone is is interested in crim and wants an easy grade. But don't talk during class! Heartthrob.
Had her for criminal justice and technology and criminal justice and health and I think she is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend her!
Very interesting prof, She makes you believe in being able to help people again. If UO CRIM is making you feel jaded take a class with her and she will direct you towards making a difference. Am taking another class with her this semester and find her very uplifting and intelligent and has very practical ideas for working in the field.
Super good
Interesting class with good material. She teaches it well & goes over important info. 2 midterms + final, she tries to make it easy for everyone with MC, short answer & long answer questions--but you need to study hard to do well. Incorporated guest speakers & videos too to break up the lectures which was refreshing
Words can't describe how intelligent, interesting, and respectful this professor is. Erin is one of my favourite professors teaching criminology at UofO. YJ consisted of two midterms and a final take home. If you come to class and do the readings you will do very well. Erin is very helpful and brings in amazing guest speakers. Take her classes!
First off she's hot. Second off she's extremely intelligent, makes her lectures fun. Brings in interesting guest speakers and is extremely clear on what will be on her midterms and what to expect in assignments. A REAL BEAUTY!
Don't be fooled by this professor. Yes, her lectures are pretty interesting and she encourages class participation. However, the multiple choice in her midterms are made to trick you. They count for 15 out of 30% of your exam and they're based on stupid useless details that have nothing to do with your knowledge in the class. I would avoid.
I have had her for two courses and she is very consistent. Lectures are interesting and she adds in other forms of learning when possible (guest speakers, videos, etc). Midterm is MC, short and long answer questions and she usually gives a take home paper for final. Her MC questions come from things from the textbook so read carefully
Don't be fooled by her good looks and charm, her lectures are very dull and not very condensed. In addition her tests are solely based on little facts in the readings never anything on her lectures. Her and her TA's mark the papers very harshly. My recommendation is if you're only taking her class because you've heard how hot she is , big mistake.
Wonderful Prof, beautiful and smart. Is always there for her students and if you show up and participate she really values this. Her lectures are engaging and she brings in great speakers. I highly recommend her classes.
I had her for a number of classes, and don't have a single complain yet. Yes, tests and papers can be a bit challenging, but comparing to other profs, her quality of tests and teaching method is far ahead of them. If you do your readings, attend lectures, take notes consistently, there's no way you won't succeed. Period.
Great prof, ive had her for health and police. interesting lectures and clear expectations
Great professor who makes class lectures very interesting and engaging! She gives you clues for the written part of the midterms which is very helpful but her multiple choice is mainly based on irrelevant facts in the readings that were not mentioned in class. However, as long you do the readings and show up to class you'll get a good mark!
Very good prof! Do the readings!
She seems like a very sweet person, but she's a tough prof. Her lectures are really long and can be dry. Doesn't post lectures online, and slides in class are very brief; to get notes, you need to write what she says, and she speaks fast. Exams were okay, many questions from only online readings (no textbook!). If you don't go to class, forget it.
Lot's of guest lectures, videos and specific articles from the course reader are presented during lectures making class attendance mandatory. Powerpoints are not posted. Readings from the course reader is necessary for the exams. Specific questions on the exam about articles and long answer questions are graded toughly.
If you think she is going to be helpful from the lectures think again! She says to focus on things for exams and never tests them. She makes test questions based on material with little relevance to the topics. She likes stats despite them being extra info provided by the text book writer. She can be very helpful when she wants to be, which is rare
Great professor and cares about her students. Easy to do well if you keep up with your readings and attend lectures. Gives lots of hints for the exams and honours class participation. Fun and relevant topics. Her guest lecturers are very interesting. Also, If you tend to skip classes and don't pay attention in lectures it's not the course for you!
Class attendance is mandatory or you will do poorly. She encourages the class to be dynamic and participate to make the lectures interesting and timely. Brings great guest speakers. Sweet, serious and knows her material. Great professor and highly recommend her.
CRM and health was a cool class. Different subjects each week and she brings in great speakers. Attend class, always do the readings and participate and you will do well!
Great class! Very fair with expectations - no surprises on exams ever. Teacher always offers info on volunteer ops within the field. Would recommend.
If you like class participation and debate it's a very good course. Not posting the slides actually makes you pay attention in class! She covers most of the readings also which helps when it comes to studying. Very approachable in class and office hours. Gives lot's of hints and tips for studying for exams.
Overall a great prof! Very interesting to listen to and she always invites guest speakers to come in. She doesn't post notes on blackboard so showing up to class is a must. Would definitely take this prof again!
I liked her as a professor. She makes class interesting with lots of speakers, videos and class discussions. Beware of her midterms though, as someone who went to almost all classes, took notes & did the readings, getting a good mark is pure luck with her. Multiple choice is made to trick you. They are worth the most & based on random facts.
Excellent course and different than the usual crim subjects. Know the readings and attend class and participate. Very straightforward about expectations and the testing material.
Erin is my absolute role model. She's beautiful, well spoken and so knowledgeable! While I did well in the course, her midterms are tricky as there are few questions so each point is worth a lot. Straightforward though. Final paper only 5 pages.
Erin is constantly trying to help students in and outside of the classroom. She is incredibly knowledgeable and a wonderful role model. She is very particular about what she wants in essays and on exams so every detail matters! I would take this class again and again. It was so interesting!
It's essential to go to class when you have this prof. There's no need to take notes, because literally everything you're graded on in both midterms and exam is from the textbook- be sure to buy it and read it. But you need to go to listen, as she includes a lot of details from the lecture. Midterms q's are VERY specific.. be sure to read!
Seems like a nice teacher. She talks so much in class for nothing when the textbook has better explanations. her power points are one word. honestly just be there for her guest lectures, because her lectures are not worth it. 2 midterms and an essay for final. honestly wont take her again super hard grader and is not specific what she wants from us
Great prof- always in a good mood! Lectures are interesting - slides are not detailed but you learn more that way as there is more discussion. Gives lots of hints for exams and is clear on expectations. If you dont like going to class and skip lectures - not the class 4 u . Participation is important.
Great lectures, exams are fair, participation helps for bonus marks and guest speakers are very interesting. Overall a solid pick is - clear about expectations. Dont skip class!
Very sweet professor and very helpful when you ask for help or advice during office hours. Excellent guest speakers. Interesting topics and she engages the class to participate. PowerPoint provide little informationbut if you pay attention you will do very well. However, if you skip class or not do the readings you will miss important information.
Such a nice prof! Informative and class is based on discussion. Must do readings and cannot skip classes as she gives hints for exams in class. Highly Recommend taking her courses
Great teacher, really seems to care about her students. Doing the readings are vital but all you do in class is go over the readings, so pretty much you can do one or the other. Exams are fairly difficult but fair, a lot of detail is required.
Great person, but by far the hardest marker. Very difficult to do well. I would avoid if possible.
Greatest professor I've had so far in university. You have to do your readings to pass the multiple choice portion of her midterms, but she gives you a general idea what is going to be focused on more. She's also really caring about her students. Highly recommend to take her classes.
Show up and do the readings! Hints provided in class and guidance for the exams. Bonus marks for participation. Must work hard but great class/prof .
She is very nice and I found this course interesting. Its not really a super hard course but its also not easy. I found lectures were not always super important but doing the readings absolutely is. I love her for the fact that she posted ALL the required readings online.
Dr. Erin McCuaig-Lambrinakos is a great professor who knows her stuff, however, because she wants students to attend class she does not post her lectures on Brightspace and here points are either one worded or one sentence on the lecture slide, so future student you will need to pay attention to when she lectures as well as do the assigned reading
prof just talks about everything and nothing you'll have no idea what's important to remember super picky went to discus my grade and what she looks for in her short/long answers aren't even what she focused on in class. completely useless at answering questions. you can decently pass this class but it the teacher sucks buy the book and read
Amazing prof! Loved the class . If you dont attend class forget about passing. Cares about students and makes an effort to make lectures interesting! Also always lets students know about job opportunities in the field.
Excellent prof! Clear instructions - no surprise on expectations. Lots of hints for exams in class. Very easy to do well. Must attend and do readings.
Great prof. However, make sure to come to class. She provides hints and clearly indicates what is important to study for the exams. Wonderful professor. Interesting lectures and guest speakers.
Such an interesting course. Good mix of guest lectures/discussion/documentaries. Prof. does cover the readings but it makes you feel prepared for the exams as you don't have tons of material to memorize. Expectations are straightforward.
great course! Discussion interesting prof cares about teaching/ content Exams clear - must read and attend class,
Fantastic Prof!
Easy to do well if you attend class and listen. Nice mix of lectures, guest speakers and documentaries. And this professor is very pleasing to the eye.
Loved her class. Bonus if you participate and you should go see her after class so she can get to know you.
Super great professor. Have had her twice now and decided to come give her a great review. Do not hesitate to take her class!
Show up to class and RECORD HER LECTURES. She speaks SO fast and often mixes up her ideas.. It is hard to type what she is saying as she will go on a tangent. Easy A if you show up and write down everything she says as she doesn't even put she skeleton of her slides on BrightSpace. I'm not sure if I would take a class with this prof again!
Intrusctor does not allow lectures to be recorded. However having taken several of her courses - its completely unnecessary. Do the readings in adavnace of class, dont skip class, take decent notes and participate and you will get a good mark. Clear expectations.
Awesome course! Recommend this prof.
This was a great course! Really helpful if you want to do front line work. Prof really knowledgeable in this area and guest speakers brought in were very interesting (walls to bridges and halfway house worker)
Absolutely amazing prof. Caring, informative and makes lectures interesting and engaging. Would definitely recommend this course.
Attend class & take notes of what she says is important + slides. Doesn't post anything online, do reading and you can get a good grade. Pretends to care about students, but definitely doesn't, I wouldn't take a course with this prof again, although the course is intersesting, she just rambles on and it's hard to figure out what is important
Fantastic course and prof! Participation matters - gives bonus marks and plenty of hints for exams so its easy to do well. Caring and interesting lectures and guest speakers. Will be taking another course with her in the future for sure!
This professor is by far one of the kindest teachers at UO. Approachable and always willing to answer questions, will offer suggestions for volunteering organizations for those looking to work in criminology. Has lots of front line experience. Lectures are a great mix of discussion, case studies and different topics each week. Take a class with her
Gives fantastic feedback. Straightforward in lectures and is organized and clear. If you dont attend class then its not the course for you. Great prof.
Fascinating course - not coming from a criminology background it has made me think about switching majors. Great lectures - participation is important and each week a new topic is looked at. Definitely recommend.
Prof EML is a great teacher who cares about her students- is always helpful to talk to about career or volunteer options in Criminology. She is very respectful towards her students and expects the same in return. If you like learning, discussion and reading this is a great course and straightforward to do well in.
This course was incredibly interesting and made me want to switch to a major in CRM. Each lecture there was a different health topic and sometimes even great guest speakers. The take home exam was easy and you could incorporate what you were most interested in from the course. Definitely taking this prof again if I can!
Erin is fantastic. She has a lot of frontline experience but that doesn't stop her from having a multitude of guest speakers to discuss topics that are more specific to their expertise. She cares about her students and the work she does. I participated a lot in her class and my mark and her treatment of me definitely reflected that. She is lovely.
Prof McCuaig is seriously an amazing professor. She gives amazing lectures and makes the class really interesting. If you take notes in class and do the readings, you'll do very well since her midterms are very reflective of her lecture material and the readings. Overall, loved her class and would take more classes with her!
Great course and Prof. Wrote me a reference letter with short time-frame despite other demands. Is kind and takes the time to listen to students. Passionate about criminology.
Super sweet prof and interesting course material! She's open to questions after class and strongly encourages class participation. Doesn't post her slides online but there's no point because they only have a few words on it which forces you to come to class. Her exams are extremely fair
Such a nice professor. Cares for students, does her best to connect students to career and volunteer opportunity and contacts. Always in a good mood. Values participation a lot.
Prof EML is a caring teacher. She is always available to help students email or office hours. She wants them to do well. Honors participation and discussion. Is respectful and passionate about criminology. Always directing students to job and volunteer opportunities. Straightforward to do well in this class. Must attend classes!
She relies on readings religiously, about half of the questions on her exams are going to be exclusively from the readings and she won't mention anything about those concepts in class, but its easy questions. If you have her for more than one class in a term she schedules her exams and take home final on the same days.
Very good Professor and interesting course!
One of my favourite profs at uOttawa! Not the easiest marker but you learn a LOT. She's a fantastic lecturer and cares a lot about your success. Very kind and always willing to chat outside of class. Readings are mandatory to succeed but they're not too hard to understand. 100% you should take her classes!
it is not a bird class believe or not
Great course! Midterm very fair and lectures were interesting. Would take again
This is that kind professor you want completely have no contact with her at all She will show you how to make an easy course become a nightmare She says quite well for a 65% average midterm score I'm not saying that she is a bad professor or anything like that I'm just suggesting she should focus on research and never come back to teach RUN! RUN!
This professor is kind and supportive. Having taken this course for a second time (first time different prof and class average was a D) I found her midterm and final exam extremely reasonable and fair. No surprises. She is always happy to help students and the lectures incorporate her research and front lines experience.
Amazing prof! Coming from a non criminology program - I found her lectures very interesting as an elective course. She also goes out of her way to connect you to volunteer opportunities in front line work in criminology.
Awesome prof! Work hard, study readings and attend classes and you will do well. She will always provide you with guidance on questions and is approachable and accessible by email.
As this was a summer class taken online due to COVID-19, my rating may be quite different than others, but I found her to be mediocre at best. Her lectures were very boring. She did not encourage participation and would talk for 3 hours straight. The midterm asked very specific questions and the final barely related to the course material.
Interesting course despite being online - lots of participation and attending lecture was crucial to do well. Midterm and final very fair. Films and guest speakers good also. Would take again
Solid pick - genuinely cares about what she is teaching.
Take CRM2315 with Erin, shes the best. Her lectures are so interesting since she uses examples & case studies. She also incorporates guest lectures and documentaries. Expectations are very clear - do the readings and take notes in class and you will do very well. She also gives you the reading links so no need to buy a book. An amazing prof!
shes super super caring and engaging. the topics of this course are SO interesting, and she conveys the material super well. she goes over the lecture time a bit but its alright, because its always a good topic or a guest speaker. the midterm questions were kinda weird and specific and shes super adamant about them not being open book
Erin is an absolute gem. She is clearly very intelligent, covers a lot in class, and cares really deeply about her students. I've taken three classes with her and I've learned a lot. Make sure you do the readings, because they will be on the midterms/finals. Bit of a tough marker but totally worth it!
Prof McCuaig used to be way better when I took in-person classes with her. However, with the move to online school, her lectures have become dry and lack interesting content. If you take this class expect to read a lot from a series of boring articles that wont be covered in class but questions about them might appear on exams.
I found this course to be very interesting despite being online. Learned a lot. Prof. was caring and always available to help with content - also was very organized. Would take again.
First day of this class... this teacher is a rocket ... take the course!
She seems to be very nice, but her class is extremely boring. She has not adapted well to out of class learning. She uploads lectures every week that are very dry. Her exam is all based off of reading, and rarely relevant to what she talks about in class. Would not take again
Great prof! Lectures are interesting and midterm fair. Must watch lectures to do well! Willing to help and accessible for office hours. Would take again
Terrible way of teaching online. Do not take her, all her mid term multiple choice questions are from readings
Just wrote the midterm and it was straightforward if you watched all the lectures and kept up with the readings. She covers most of the readings in the lectures so there really isn't much suprise when it comes to the exams. Provides helpful and clear guidance in office hours and the course content is interesting.
midterms are dumb - tests you on super specific stuff that doesn't matter but whatever. lectures are a lil boring too
Great and caring teacher !
Found lectures to be unclear and the exams really only pertain to the readings and guest lecturers. Exam questions are extremely specific and insane amount of readings. Found myself zoning out during lectures.
Erin is clearly a very passionate prof who wants her students to succeed. Her style is posting one pre-recorded lecture and accompanying videos each week which kept me engaged. Midterms are more specific, so doing readings and attending lectures are a must to do well. I loved her lectures and learned a lot from this class.
Great course - must put in effort to do well. Accessible outside of class and provides very helpful feedback in office hours. Always posting volunteer ops for students to get involved -cares about teaching!
Erin is a solid prof! The course content was interesting and relevant to the current sociopolitical context. The class did not require a textbook as she provided online readings. I found them interesting and of reasonable length. The mid term and final paper were not difficult, the TAs provided feedback by appointment.
Great online class. Informative, straightforward and clear for a condensed course. Prof. is caring and accessible for office hours on short notice.
Her lectures are very good, however it feels as though no matter how much effort you put you won't get a good mark. The class average was a C+. I was told she was amazing, however she was not that great online. She only marks on exams.
Amazing course! Prof is kind and very informative. Always willing to help or provide referrals for volunteering opportunities in the field. Easy to do well - class average B and final take home exam was very fair.
Read and you will succeed. No but frl, go to lectures, read the material, and you'll do great.
I have had her for two classes this year, she is absolutely amazing. Her lectures are never too lengthy but very informative. Her tests are always similar layouts, and she is very transparent with the students. If you complete the course work and study a couple hours before test you should be more then set. She is a good teacher and fair marker.
Sweet prof, tough grader. If you plan on taking her make sure you eat sleep and breathe the readings for the midterms.
No power point, no textbooks, no exam preparation, nada. DON'T MISS A CLASS and get ready to WRITE EVERYTHING!!!!
Fantastic prof. No need to buy txt as there are articles posted on Brightspace for the course reader. Very interesting lectures - and is accessible for office hours and happy to answer questions even after class. Exams very fair in comparison to other second year courses. Would take agin
Solid prof.! Clear and organized.
No PowerPoints or anything so I was worried at first but the way she teaches and makes us take notes in our own words really made me comprehend and remember the material much better. She is very sweet and seems passionate when she teaches which makes the lectures interesting. Definitely one of my favourite professors of all time.
A great professor who loves teaching. Cares for students. But you have to be willing to attend all classes, do all the readings and participate to do well. Is very organized and lectures are more like discussions. PowerPoints are not the focus.
erin is kind and i really enjoyed this class, her lectures were pretty simple and easy to understand but i still felt like i learned lots and wasn't bored. online midterms and final essay were quite easy as well. no textbook and the readings weren't too heavy, i am looking forward to taking her next year!
Lectures were asynchronous; however, the material made them quite interesting. The two tests weren't very difficult, but students were only given 65 minutes to answer a considerable number of questions, with the class average being a B for each. Overall, it's an interesting course and worth taking if you can.
The material is very interesting, and she explains it very well. The class includes many videos and well-designed PowerPoint slides. However, the slides are not accessible outside of class, so everything she says in class is important. The exams are not hard, but you need to understand how to answer the questions and keep up with the readings.
TANGENT UPON TANGENT, PLEASE TEEEEEEAAAACH
Really interesting lectures with lots of participation and discussion. Gives clear explanations and relevant examples to ensure class understands. Would take again!
Great prof! Caring person well structured online exams and lectures are engaging
Overall she is very nice and passionate about what she teaches. However, she is a bit too woke and loves to use overly complicated words for her exams...My native language is English and even I struggled to comprehend what she was trying to ask. No text book but her exams are 90% based on the weekly readings. She was an ok professor.
Amazing course! Organized and straightforward - learned a lot.
The professor is great - her lectures are engaging and she cares about her students. The readings can be heavy, but unstuck study and ChatGPT were super helpful for prepping. Definitely put in the work, but the class is manageable.
Very lecture heavy, make sure you show up. TAs barely help because they're not allowed to tell you what you got right and what you got wrong. So make sure you keep up with the readings and show up to every class.
Solid course and prof! Structured clearly and exams were reasonable. Need to attend lectures to do well and keep up with the course readings!
She will hijack genuinely any course you have with her to talk about her PHD topic being corrections. You have a criminology and health course? Get ready to learn about prisons instead, you have a theory course? Get ready to learn about prisons instead. She'll get sidetracked in a lecture for an hour, you might be on the same slide for 3 days.
Great course and really interesting critical content. Very approachable and organized. Would recommend. Guest speakers also excellent!
Good prof. Very minimal lecture slides with barely any information, which makes listening and note taking very important. tests are very reading based so you will only scrape by without doing them. Content is very interesting and she is very knowledgeable on the topic.
A genuinely caring prof that is always willing to help students get connected to volunteer opportunities in the field. Lectures must always be attended as exams are heavily based on that content for the written sections. Also have to study the readings as they are tested on. Final take home exam was very reasonable in terms of workload.
Erin was very sweet, but her lectures sometimes got boring and disengaging. She assigns a lot of readings but posts them for you, so you do not need to buy a book. There were 2 online proctored midterms and a final exam paper. I learned a lot in this class and enjoyed how she incorporates a lot of psychology content into her course.
I'm taking this class right now in the summer term, she posts two 1h videos per week and deletes them so you need to watch them the week of. The videos can be a bit hard to understand and there is a lot of lecture. The exam are on brightspace with one term paper. Exam was based on lectures details, so make sure to read the lectures.
Great online course! Clear and organized - must stay on top of material and readings.
The course has been well structured and flexible as it doesn't require live virtual class attendance — except need to be present for online exams. Exams fair, Topics and speakers are solid. Have to stay on top of readings and lectures as it is a condescended course but perfect set up for the spring/summer!
I liked the course content. But both of her midterms were online proctored examinations. After having tech issues with Zoom and only 30 minutes to do the test, the professor offered no support. Plus, tests shouldn't be done online if she's not willing to help students who went through tech problems. Never taking her again.
Great course. Online exams were better than writing in the classroom. Needed follow instructions to prepare by doing mock quiz and reaching out to Brightspace help line if tech issues happened. Would take again!
Great professor. Lectures are well structured, and as long as you keep up with the readings you'll do well. There are two midterms and an open-book final. Highly recommended.
