She is the best professor I've had this year. She explains things clearly even though it is tough material. She will always help if you ask. She wanted us to succeed. She goes a little fast through her notes, but study them and you'll be fine for the exams. Very funny, friendly, and easy-going. Definitely would take her again.
She's all over the place with her lectures and she goes really fast. But if you ask for help she provides it. You only have 3 grades the whole semester and they're all tests so study hard or you'll fail.
I love her for BIO 120! She is straight forward and willing to help you. She's passionate and brings in current articles to incorporate into the lectures. 3 exams and a final with some homework ,but the hw is meant to be easy so it gives you some fluff. She can talk fast ,but tell her to slow down and she will, no problem.I would take her again.
i had her for lab and she's so sweet and super helpful! definitely confused why her rating is so low. if you're looking for a lab prof she's the one. she gives quizzes that are short answers and they are a little bit hard though.
One of the sweetest people you'll ever meet! She's very helpful, and made bio lab at least somewhat bearable. She's super passionate and wants you to understand everything you are doing. Only downfall is the weekly quizzes are all short answer, and somewhat difficult. Study the lab manual before every class.
She's a super amazing professor. She uses so many videos and really makes the lectures enjoyable. She is also super passion and knows a lot about what she is teaching. She also encourages students to ask a lot of interesting questions and then she will search for the answers and discuss it. A lot of fun.
Extremely caring and nice woman. Super upbeat and positive. Gives great notes and lectures and is always willing to help. Truly wants all students to succeed in her class. You will have to work hard for your grade though as this is just a hard class in general.
Erin seems really nice during lecture and she's definitely entertaining, she encourages questions but when you actually approach her or email her she is very condescending. She's constantly changing her PowerPoints, adding slides and deleting slides and doesn't provide the updated copy. Definitely get a tutor and do well in lab.
I'm confused as to how people find her class difficult. I never printed out any powerpoints, just took handwritten notes, studied for about an hour for each test and maybe 15 minutes for each quiz and never did worse than an A- on any of them. Just use common sense and study. The material is not hard at all. It's just memorization. Easy A.
Prof. Erin is such a sweet and caring professor. As a former High School Biology teacher she really knows how to explain and present material to the class. If you don't understand a concept, also will explain things to you in different ways until you understand. I enjoyed her enthusiasm for the class and think that everyone should take her class.
She is a good teacher who wants you to do well. You have to be present and paying attention to do well, which isn't difficult because she is a fun teacher that makes big concepts easy to understand. You do a lot of interesting things in this class, and I would recommend taking it!
Erin was great. Bio 120 is typically known as being pretty difficult, but I did not struggle at all. Her lectures were easy to follow and her powerpoints were organized. The PowerPoints are posted online, but they are incompleted, so class attendance is recommended to get all required information. If you do well on tests, you will be good to go.
I would highly recommend Prof. Goward for BIO 120 or any other class. Not only did she make the content easy to learn but she is extremely funny. Her exams are fairly easy. BIO 120 covers a lot of content but if you show up and do fair amount of studying you can pass. The book was "required" but it honestly just got dusty on my shelf.
Erin was a great professor for this course. She is very enthusiastic and more than willing to explain things over again to make sure everyone understands. BIO itself is not the easiest material to grasp, but she is very helpful in providing study tips and tricks. Her exams are all multiple choice and straight from the powerpoint lectures.
Does use quite a bit of time in class to lecture because we are usually ahead of the actual lecture. However, she does make sure we understand it and also helps us to better learn it or have the basics down before we reach the subject in lecture. Makes things fun and gives us fun facts and keeps the class light and fun. Would recommend.
I would highly recommend Erin. She stays very up to date and tells us new research. You really do not need the book for her class unless you learn from reading. Her exams correlate with her lectures. She is super funny and class is enjoyable. She really made me leave the class loving biology.
I absolutely loved her! Biology is one of those weeder courses that throws a lot of information at you, so it is difficult, but she adores the subject and it shows. She is VERY good at explaining concepts and is very helpful if you go to her office hours for extra help. She makes it very clear what we need to know for her exams.
She is an amazing teacher, she lectures everyday because it is a biology lecture. She makes the lectures very interesting and the tests aren't too hard if you study and listen during lectures and do the homework.
She expects you to come to every class, which isn't bad when half of the classes are field trips. She wants you succeed, if you have any questions she will find anyway to get you the answer. She is funny so it helps lighten the mood in a dreaded 3 hour lab. TAKE THIS PROF AND THIS CLASS!
She is very easy to get in touch with outside of class, and she is always willing to help you learn the material more. Lectures can get long, but taking good notes helps, and all of the exam material comes straight from her lectures.
She's nice, funny, and willing to help. Do not miss lecture! Attendance is important because the tests are based off the PowerPoints, which I recommend to print beforehand. Besides, she makes lecture fun and uses her time efficiently. By the way, this class isn't an easy A as you think, you have to work for it especially on the tests.
She is an amazing professor. Extremely clear on explaining topics and very passionate about helping her students. Knows how to run the class and successfully teach the topics at hand. Very enthusiastic and looked forward to going to class. Will work with you and explain things in different ways to make sure it is understood. Highly recommend.
Erin was an awesome teachers for BIO 150. The only downfall was there not much chance for Extra Credit and because I did poorly on the first exam I COULD not get the grade up to save my life. But she gave good lectures, and was willing to spend extra time to help you understand concepts. Tests are self explanatory.
Professor Erin is absolutely AMAZING. Biology isn't really my thing, but she made it so easy to learn and she kept me engaged throughout the entire course. She is highly relatable, down-to-earth, and intelligent! If you are a Biology major, I would HIGHLY recommend her. I only had her for a lab, but I bet her other classes are just as enjoyable!
BIO 120 is a pretty hard class, but Erin was super helpful. She makes every lecture so interesting and she is really good at explaining things to make them make sense. She's super funny and always kept my interest. She's also really helpful, and you can always tell her you're struggling and she'll try to help as best as she can.
Erin is a great prof! Bio is just hard in general but she does her best to try and explain it in a way that understandable! Gives study guides but very general and not too much help. Exams aren't bad if you really really study. I would recommend her!
She is a little rude in person but her lectures were fun and you can totally see she loves biology. She is so excited about bio it is fun.
Some labs contained difficult material, but she presented it generally and enthusiastically. Lab pages never turned in, though there were quizzes and graphs to turn in almost every week. Quizzes are mainly written-answer and focus on specific lecture topics, so have a firm grasp of them! One formal lab report, a stickler for accuracy/details on it
I had to retake Biology for my major and am SO glad I took it with Erin. She loves what she teaches and will help you understand the material. Online homework helps boost your grade and the tests aren't too bad if you go to lecture and use her study guides posted. I highly recommend you take Erin for Bio 120.
Erin is extremely passionate about what she teaches and explains topics throughly. She makes lectures very interesting and genuinely wants to see her students succeed. Biology in general is not an easy class but she is great at explaining the material. The PowerPoints and online homework are very helpful. I am glad I took her and would recommend.
I had Erin for lab & loved her. BIO121 recently switched to a new lab set-up this year, so the material itself was pretty jumbled. She made the labs fun & we almost always got out over an hour early. She makes sure you understand material, & helped me become more successful in lecture too. Even wrote me a reference letter for grad school. TAKE HER!
Erin is awesome. She is very passionate about what she teaches and she loves continuing her own knowledge of biology. Her tests are tough but she's very willing to help you.
Erin is AMAZING! She cares about her students and wants each of them to succeed and it is very noticeable :) Bio 120 is a difficult class, but the lectures are very clear and she is clear about what will be on the tests! Mastering will def help your grade, make sure you do it! Overall she is such a sweetheart and will do anything for her students!!
One of the best teachers you could take at Grand Valley. She is incredibly kind and will work with you on things you need to improve on or things you learn a little slower on. If you take any biology classes, I recommend her!
She is very nice in lecture and makes it kind of interesting but going to her office hours doesnt help much if you need extra help. Her tests are tough so study a lot. She also doesnt provide extra credit which sucks
I had Erin for lab and I absolutely loved her. The best prof I've taken. She is so encouraging and truly passionate about her job. She took the time to meet with me outside of office hours and helped me with other classes. Erin loves her students and wants to help them succeed. Not only a fabulous prof, but a wonderful person as well.
Erin is an amazing professor. She usually teaches BIO120 and this was her first year teaching 104. She made lecture interesting and kinda fun. She explains everything well and even re-explains important topics through drawings. If you take good WRITTEN notes, you will have no problem doing well in this course. She is fun too!
I had Erin for lecture and lab. Her lectures contain everything that you'll need for her tests; no need for the textbook. She is very encouraging and fun and will take the time to re-explain if needed. Her tests may seem difficult, but if you memorize EVERYTHING in your notes, including the tiny details, you'll do just fine. She explains labs well
Erin is an amazing professor and I am so glad that I took her class! She knows her stuff very well, and she made all of the field trips that we went on so much fun. She explains everything so clearly. I was always excited to go to this class even though I am not a biology major! She is so funny and she understands that we have busy schedules!!!!!!!
Erin is seriously the best professor Ive had. She is so down to earth and truly wants the best for her students. Her lectures are clear and relatable and her exams are fair! If you attend her office hours she is more than willing to help! As long as you can get past her bad spelling habits you will love her! Wish I could take her for every class!
Very passionate about what she teaches. Really tries her best to help you understand what she's talking about. Helped me understand lots of things I didn't before. Strongly recommend her, she's awesome.
Made 3 hour long labs so much fun & keep them interesting! Lots of field trips for this lab. Definitely cares about what she teaches & makes sure we have the materials needed to succeed.
Erin is a great prof and is very passionate about biology. She does her best to make sure lectures aren't boring. She has 4 exams throughout the semester and they get harder as they go but you can make up for it through homework and quizzes.
Really good prof and understands that you are taking it for a gen ed. There are 4 exams that are based off your notes in class. The final is not cumulative which is very nice. Overall, this class was a great experience and if you takes good notes you should get an A in the class.
Easily the best professor I've had in the past 3 years of college. It's evident how much she cares about her students. She's extremely caring and understanding. She goes to extreme lengths to make sure we understand the content, and is VERY available to help students outside of class. Goes above and beyond. I hate science but loved this class.
Very good professor who just wants people to learn the basics of biology, and knows it is a gen ed class. Does not make the test too challenging and has a lot of other opportunities to make sure your grade does not just depend on test. Was always there to answer any question and lectures helped me understand material clearly.
SHE IS AWESOME! She loves biology and will make you love it too. Her lectures were never boring and it is easy to follow along and understand. Not too much homework and made sure you were ready for tests. You definitely will have to pay attention and try, but you will get a good grade.
Erin is a great professor! she is passionate about the subject of biology and really wants her students to succeed. as long as you pay attention to lectures and really comprehend the material and what she is saying, then you will be good! however, I do love this subject so I found it quite easy for me. the exams are almost precisely what you learn!
Bio 120 is a class with a LOT of material that you have to learn, and she did an amazing job teaching it! Her lectures were so interesting, her tests are completely fair, and she is one of the nicest and funniest profs I have ever had. She is so passionate about teaching us biology and cares about her students so much! 100% would take again!!
Erin was by far one of my favorite professors here at GVSU. She cares a lot about her students and wants to make sure everyone is learning. Her lectures are very good and she explains the concepts extremely well. I am someone who sucks at science and I aced every single one of her exams because she taught that good. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN.
She is passionate about what she teaches and works hard for her students to succeed. She is willing to spend a lot of time helping students with questions or reviewing projects, even on weekends. It isn't an easy class, but she is very clear on expectations and directions, basically, if you do what the directions say you will get an A.
Really good prof. She is very excited and passionate about the class. Her exams match well to her lectures. She does however talk pretty fast and she goes through material QUICKLY. If you get behind its hard to catch up. Cares about students outside of class as well. I would totally recommend her to anyone looking for BIO 120 professor.
Took her hybrid BIO 120 class and was a really good professor. Really organized and passionate about Bio. Minimal homework and quizzes, exams were semi difficult; you need to know the material! Very helpful in office hours and explained concepts well and more than once. Solid choice. Didn't love the time given for exams, but I'm a slow test taker.
During a time of COVID she is does not change any type of grading. When you ask her to me more clear on a project or ask her for a recommendation she is very snappy. Nice in person but expects the world from you and is not nice when you have a question about her assignments.
An amazing lecturer. Always clear in explaining things, and repeats if needed. Not too much homework, and tests are straightforward if you pay attention in class
She is very passionate about biology, she does go very quick though and if you have a question you need to be on top of it. She was a little snappy sometimes with questions though, with the hybrid class she discontinued the blackboard ultra meeting times which was very difficult to keep up with class without that.
I would take her for every BIO class if I could. Her presentations were amazing- she does go a little fast sometimes but she does well on explaining the concept on the slides. She incorporates some humor on the slides to keep students entertained and interested. She does really care for her students - Highly recommend her.
I felt most of my learning was done from the book, not from her lectures. She knows her information for sure, but she talks very fast and teaches as if we have taken numerous biology courses before, so I was always lost. Her tests are extremely difficult and often worded very poorly.
great professor and very interactive with her students. would totally recommend taking her classes
LOVE Professior McNally-Goward. She is AMAZING! Cares a lot about her students and biology. Very lecture heavy, she's a lecture professor. Assignments are somewhat difficult, but she explains SO WELL! Love her so much, definitely take again. But, you do have to work hard in the class!
Amazing professor. Very lecture heavy but the way she explains things is very clear and organized, making it very easy to understand. You have to work hard in her class to do well, but it is very straightforward. She is a very passionate professor who cares a lot about the material and making sure her students understand. She's also hilarious!!
She is so kind and fun to listen to. She is very helpful and understanding too. I took it online and it was the same thing every week. Quizzes get a lot harder as you go, but that is just biology in general not her.
I loved her. I had her for asynchronous BIO120 and the class was an absolute breeze. Shes so nice and helpful if need be. Her lectures are very well explained. Shes awesome definitely take her if you can
This class definitely had a lot of difficult material to learn. If it wasn't online I would have had to put a lot more effort in. Professor McNally-Goward loves Biology, and you can tell. Her lectures were very thorough, which helped a lot. Also she was always available to help her students with anything we needed.
I absolutely loved Erin! She was so passionate about biology and it made the class enjoyable even though I usually can't stand science. Props to her for making a tough subject manageable, if you use her lectures and do her homework assignments you will do really well on the tests!
Erin was super laid back and always really understanding of any conflicts in a schedule. I HATE science classes but would genuinely take this one again if I needed the credit. It was easy and fun. We took many off-campus field trips to perform hands on activities, so if thats up your alley, this class is for you, and Erin makes it so much fun!
shes the best for lab! thank you Erin for a great semester!
As somebody who has always struggled with biology and science in general, Erin made this class extremely enjoyable and easy to understand. I could not recommend her more.
This class was very fun with lots of off-campus field trips. Prof Mcnally-Goward is very laid back and positive. There wasn't much work outside of class and most of it was easy and useful.
Erin is the best professor I have ever had. She is great at explaining and genuinely cares about her students. The homework is easy and helps you understand the content.
She is a great professor, shes funny and loves teaching this subject (especially human bio iykyk) Its not a cake walk but for not being a science/math person, even I passed with a good grade!
she is so fun and makes learning bio so easy!
Erin is a PHENOMENAL teach. You can tell she has a real passion for biology and it shows in the way she teaches. She takes the time to go over her lecture slides with you so she is not just talking at you she is doing the notes with you and she will always let you know what you need to know and what you don't need to know. She is amazing in BIO120.
She was super friendly and fun! Attendance is 100% mandatory since most classes we went on field trips. Only grading was attendance and online quizzes. As long as you do both of those things you should be fine. Only thing is I missed a couple of quizzes and she wouldn't allow me to take them even after emailing her.
I don't think I would have gotten the grade that I did if I did not sign up for her class. She used to be a high school teacher so she is super thorough on her explainations on topics and will repeat anything you don't understand. I regret not taking her for lab so if you are reading this I encourage you to register for lab and lecture with her
Erin is the sweetest human. I took her for animal behavior lab and she was so kind, funny, and clear on what she expected. She is personable and loves teaching. She brought us donuts and made class creative and fun.
She is a great professor who actually cares about her student's learning. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but missing was hard to catch up because her lectures contain a lot of important information. I actually learned material by going to class because she is a great professor.
Super nice and caring professor. There was a homework every once an awhile, not at all hard. The exams were kind of tough, questions were worded kinda confusing and the only "study guide" we get is the objectives and online textbook study area, which doesn't really help. Overall a good class though.
Professor is very kind. One of the best staff at GV. She takes her job and talents seriously. Her language is universal. 10/10 recommended.
LOVE THIS LADY!!!!!!!!! Cares about her students, is intrigued about everything she is teaching. Attendance is mandatory but even if it wasn't I would never skip her class! She is truly the best!
Erin was an amazing professor. There were weekly online assignments, but they were not bad. Weekly in-class lab assignments were lengthy and required work, but she is ALWAYS willing to help. She can grade tough sometimes, but she always adds feedback so you can fix it the next time around. She has amazing energy, it made my 9 a.m. lab worth it.
Erin is such a great person. She is super funny and encourages students to ask questions. Her exams were sometimes worded weirdly, but if you use the study objectives she gives, you'll pass fine. They are also all multiple choice which helps. I 100% recommend her!
Professor McNally was awesome when I took her. She made class pretty fun and even though lecture material could be boring often, she'd make it more fun and entertaining. The biggest advice I have is to start studying the exams early, it will be very helpful when you take the exams.
erin is so funny and really made her class enjoyable.
She is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students. She is always willing to answer any questions without making you feel like a burden. Her lectures are very helpful and if you take good notes a good grade is attainable!
I liked Dr. Erin. She is very by the books and no-nonsense, so she doesn't tolerate late assignments, but I quite liked her lectures. There is a LOT of content in this course, but she makes sure everyone knows what resources are available to them.
Erin was great! She was very engaging, helpful, and made the content interesting and fun. If you need assistance and advocate for yourself, she's willing to help. Attendance is mandatory but if something happens and you have to miss a class and contact her, you'll likely be fine. She was great and I cant wait to have her for lecture next sem!
Erin was very caring to her students. Stay on top of studying as it is fast-paced. Tests/Assignments are online. I recommend printing the reading guides to study. She makes the lectures funny with her personality. Sets aside class time for students to ask questions.
Erin is awesome! such a fun and engaging lab, and she is very helpful if you ask questions. She would make accommodations to help fit the classes needs and the only work we had to do outside of our class was the pre-labs and preparations for the final presentation.
She is really great, one of my favorite professors so far. She is incredibly enthusiastic and passionate about the topics she teaches. Super responsive to students and very helpful and intuitive and thoughtful in rendering that help. She's a real treasure at GVSU.
I enjoyed having Erin as a lab professor. BIO352 lab was pretty fun each week, but your group matters. She was super chill and wanted everyone to succeed. Creating the poster, research project, and presentation was SUPER time-consuming. Be sure to befriend your lab group; it is probably the most important thing you can do. Also no tests or quizzes!
Makes learning enjoyable and fun, very sarcastic. I had her for lab and she always did a great job walking us through the labs and telling us what we should be doing and looking out for. The only homework we ever had was weekly pre-lab quizzes that took maybe 10 minutes. All in all super easy professor and class, would highly recommend.
