Erin Meger is one of the most passionately amazing professors ever. She plays kahoot in class and i LOVE Kahoot so naturally I am usually extremely engaged. She knows discrete math really well, especially graph theory and after taking her class I definitely see myself as a big Meger fan! If she taught every class, the world would be a bit brighter.
Wastes so much lecture time by showing up late, always making unnecessary announcements about quizzes and problem sets, working very slowly through content that we were already taught in prerequisite courses, and very slowly reviewing the previous lecture. As well, her assignments and quizzes always have multiple typos, errors, and logical flaws.
Always late to lectures, which makes her speed through lectures, which leads to confusing lectures. Tries to make the class fun (which there is no problem with at all), but I find this leads to a lack of rigour in the content presented - which makes the PSETs and quizzes difficult. I want Furkan back!
Cleary doesn't understand how to teach a university course
As far as I can tell she seems like a kind person, unfortunately when it comes to school, the assignments make me wanna bang my head against a wall repeatedly and the lectures barely help as the assignments are 100 times harder than any example shown in class.

Her quiz is often confusing in terms of logic and expression, as well as the presentation of the assignment.
Solid teacher that always shows up to class with a smile. Yes, she can sometimes make mistakes, but she's willing to admit it and regrade marking errors. Tests are fair and can be solved using the recorded notes. It seems like she genuinely cares about the class and the material, so she shouldn't let a couple salty students bring her down.
Probably the worst professor I have ever come across at Queen's. Doesn't give enough time for assignments (said she would give 2 weeks but that has never happened), grades slowly, quizzes have so many errors in their grading so you have to check them yourself and email her, but she does not even respond to her email. Avoid at all costs
Her quizzes and assignments are inaccurately graded and her lessons are uninformative. But she shows a positive attitude and a clear passion for the subject. She (usually) admits when her team has made a mistake and will attempt to correct them. It's evident her main issue is a lack of relevant and adequate teaching experience.
Easily the worst professor I've encountered at Queen's. My biggest issues with her are the problem sets and quizzes, which are either incorrect or impossible. These also tend to get marked incorrectly and she refused to post solutions to her practice problems (not graded) so we had no idea how prepared we were for the test. Avoid if possible.
There are a lot of mistakes in her quizzes and she refuses to accept regrade requests. She is very narcissistic about herself. She makes a lot of mistakes in her quizzes and homework and she refuses to admit them. Apparently, there is no response if you ask her and her TAs to regrade your stuff.
Dr. Meger receives the brunt of the blow for a lot of things she couldn't control over the semester. Quizzes were graded inaccurately because of inexperience with the software, and bad assignment grades are the fault of the TAs. She's a really nice person despite all the backlash she faced and is willing to help if you speak to her after class.
Wastes lots of class time with irrelevant stories and other gimmicks. She arrives late to class often and complains that it is too early for her to live code to the class.

Worst CS prof at Queens so far. Always late to class, wastes time reviewing content, and making announcements that she could have just made on onQ. By the time the actual lecture starts, there's at most 30 mins left in class, often less. Also doesn't seem to know how to use onQ or make a proper grading scheme.
Horrible prof, super hard marker and gives hardly any feedback. Makes so many mistakes and is quite unclear. also super annoying

She was so unorganized and honestly seemed like she did not understand the content she was teaching, she does not explain anything well or in the depth that you require for the finals and assignments. I learnt everything in the course online myself and from TAs (who were very helpful). I would avoid her if possible.
Lacks accountability and is frequently late. Not that hard to get a good grade if you put in the work.
Dr. Meger is a professor responsing your email really fast, you will also feel easy on her class. These are the only good things about her. As you learning her class, you will see that her class is very very interesting. Attending her course is like fallling in quicksand.

Overall the course content is pretty simple. However, her tests are filled with typos and much to long to finish in the given time period. The textbook is not very helpful for this class as the questions she asks are very specific to what she teaches. Shows up late to class everyday and frequently complains about issues not related to the course.
Lectures were easy to understand, covered course material well. Never had to learn anything outside of a lecture. One quiz had many typos which made the questions impossible to do correctly, and her response was along the lines of "you should be able to infer the meaning even if there's a typo" which was unreasonable imo. Otherwise easy class.
Honestly had a great experience. Office hours was really helpful; if something wasn't clear, she would help until you understood. One of the most accommodating profs I've had so far. You get what you put into the class. University is not supposed to be a degree served to you on a platter. Everything is accessible online, can't really ask for more
Dr.Meger is a very engagin and kind prof. She cares eeply about her students and will do anything to help! SHe is genuinly interseted by the material she teaches which makes for a fun learning environment! She is also happy to provide one on one office hours to better explain concepts or answer to any questions you may have.
She will do everything in her power to help her students achieve their professional and academic goals and dreams. She's a real gem!
Dr. Erin has been my favourite professor, by far! She truly cares about the well-being of her students and goes above and beyond to help everyone get their knowledge base to where it needs to be for her exams. She makes the course material approachable and creates a fun, safe, and inclusive learning space. If you can take a class of hers, do it!

She made the course fun and interesting. She was always willing to answer questions.I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an amazing teacher.

Disorganized and always late for classes. Her assignments were poorly written and often had to be clarified a few days before the due date. The assignments and exams were done fairly and were doable if you paid attention. Didn't make the class difficult but made it annoying. Fairly nice though and was easy to ask questions or for help.
Not acceptable. We did not learn nearly as much as we should. Too much time reviewing content we already know, late and disorganized. Course it is way too easy yet also frustrating.
Her lectures are always super engaging and she has a lot of energy. She always answers in class and spends a lot of time outside class answering questions, clarifying, etc. Super approachable and makes time for us. She genuinely cares about all of her students so much too, and is very understanding. Super caring person and I definitely recommend.
Erin Meger was a great prof - her lectures were engaging, unlike a lot of other profs, and she made sure to answers questions during class. She also posted recordings, notes, sometimes youtube links to extra materials, and there were lots of practice homework problems given. Tests were sometimes a bit long, but very reasonable.
Interesting lectures. Always available outside of class for extra help. I thought the assignments and exam were pretty fair - no surprises.
She was one of the most caring, knowledgeable profs. Every time I sent an email with a question, she wrote a paragraph in detail, which shows her commitment to students. There was an overview of topics prior to every quiz, and she was always available for clarification even during quizzes. She is very accommodative given every student's needs.

Erin Meger was singlehandedly the best professor I have had in my 7 years learning at Queen's University. Her quizzes never had errors in them. She always showed up on time and used lecture time very well. There was not a single time she spent the whole day convincing the class (and herself?) how good of a prof she is and how difficult her job is.

Wording for quizzes and assignments is incomprehensible and resulted in every student having a different solution because nobody knew what to do. Notes are useless.
Professor messed up many quizzes and refused to ever admit fault, and on top of that TAs were very tough markers. There was also mandatory homework every week worth 10% of your grade. Professor also had random rants about how hard her job is and to never email her about anything. Would not recommend, use a different professor if possible.

Meger is a very caring professor on the surface level. While she does respond to emails quickly, it takes weeks to get quizzes worth 18% back because two of the questions were not solveable, and even then, the marks are extremely picky despite the lack of instruction during classes. Nice person, but the class is not ran well. Would not take again.
She's ok
At that start I thought Dr. Meger was a very difficult prof, but now, at the end of the semester, I think she was a great prof, and hope I have here again in the future.
Professor Meger teaches with a very 'person first, student second' attitude. She is very kind and caring. I've always enjoyed her lectures and this keeps them rather engaging. Her engaging lectures make rather difficult and abstract material significantly easier. She is one of my favourite professors at Queen's, highly recommend.
I took CISC 121 with professor Meger last winter. She is a great lecturer that is very caring. Would absolutely recommend.
By far, my favourite prof I've had so far. She is very enthusiastic in what she teaches and always keeps lectures interesting. Lectures usually consist of lots of writing and content but it is delivered in an entertaining way that does not make it feel long or hard at all.
Does not teach content effectively, often goes off track during lectures. The quizzes are full of typos and you never know if the questions are going to be crazy difficult, or manageable. The only study resource she offers is the textbook for practice problems.
The class feels disorganized, but, this professor records live lectures and takes the notes, both of which can be downloaded and used when we need it. It doesn't get much better than that. There is room for improvement, but this is a good prof that has the potential to be great, because she does care, and she tries. I would take her class again.
The grading scheme + feedback are unclear, although assignment problems connect well with lectures. Quizzes often had errors, which made the course experience a bit stressful. The silver lining is the "flex days," which helps with managing a busy courseload. Overall, a caring professor, but the academic experience could have been more enjoyable.
I had her for CISC121 in first year and CISC203 (3hr lecture). She's a chill prof and rlly helpful. To be fair, in the beginning the assignments and prblm sets were frustrating cuz I had to write a bunch of stuff, but looking back, I'm glad it happened because I've gotten used to writing comprehensive and well-formatted solutions to my problems.
Dr. Meger is a very caring person who tries to get to know each member of the class. She makes lectures engaging, bright, and fun. She is overall receptive to feedback and regrading tests. She goes out of her way to be a good resource for her students, connects with us, and gives good life/university advice. She's a great prof for first-years.
Deducting marks for things she never taught (e.g. A1) Same work submitted: one got 8/8, one got 3/8 (e.g. PS1) Told us to do it one way but lost marks for it (e.g. Quiz 1) Beautifully crafted solution receive 2/4 for LaTex (e.g. A2) Have students lose marks for her errors (e.g. Quiz 2). Unreasonable markings, and assignments take forever to return.
Grading criteria vague, rolling dice on if your sol'n follows the way she wants it to be. Multiple occasions of prof having incorrect sol'n to questions, if it's on a quiz gl bc she will refuse to change. Capable of submitting regrades/resubmissions for extra credit, feels mandatory as there will always be some mess-up. Awful course to TA too.
Dr. Meger is an amazing prof who makes lectures very fun! She's very caring and considerate, she did occasionally make typos on quizzes, but adjusted the grades after. The final assignment was a lot of work, but if you're doing well on the rest of the class, you'll be fine.
Fantastic experience with Prof Meger. She takes the time to explain concepts until you understand. Great notes, everything is super clear and easy to refer back to. She knows that 203 is a hard course and does her best to make sure you succeed (10% boost/extra days on assignments + no final!). Overall great prof! One of the best I've had at Queens.
The course stuff is not that hard, but formulating it to overleaf is like hell and took millions of hours. Graders will take off grades if you try to use some easy method instead of something confusing stuff she taught. I don't understand why student should learn this trash. Still makes endless mistakes in assignments all the time,
I would giver her a zerio if I could. I don't understand how a person like her is still teaching at an institution like Queen's. Her existence here alone drags down the reputation of CompSci let alone the whole university. Avoid at all costs. Take her classes at your own risk.
Great prof, and great lectures and notes provided that are very helpful in future courses. Tough but not unreasonably tough, and prepares you well for future.
Meger has definitely improved from 102 to 203 with the addition of flex days and you can tell she wants to be better, however there's still much work to be done. Grading criteria on assignments is absolutely ridiculous, with students losing marks for things that were never clarified in the instructions. Some quizzes had wrong answers.
How did this woman get hired. She recently gave a first test and it was impossible to complete within the given time span. avoid at all costs

Creates tests that are not designed to be completed within 1.5 hours. Sure you can complete the test, but you will definitely not get above a 90. The way her tests are structured is infuriating to say the least, and why is this woman bringing up American politics in lectures?

Do you hate your life? Are you indecisive on if you should end your game right now or continue on with life? Well, I have the solution for you, just take this fine lady's classes, and you would be wanting to douse yourself in a vat of hydrochloric acid. The only thing you would learn in her classes is "how great she is" or "how hard her job is".
Probably the worst professor I have had, I usually wouldn't rate a prof but I just hate her she is so entitled (cried in class about how trump won the election 2024). I also hate the way she teaches it's very confusing, the lectures are 3 hours long so you will get bored very quickly. She acts so nice it makes me feel like she is faking all of it.
At first, she struck me as a great professor—enthusiastic, caring, and genuinely seemed interested in her student's success. I thought to myself, This is going to be a great semester... Oh boy, was I wrong.
She has potential to make the class better. Textbook questions are useless. Not enough practice before the tests that are worth 75% of your grade. She goes off topic a lot and in a difficult class that can be tough. I would rather spend the time talking about topics than her personal life. Says she cares, but can be really rude when you email her.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Consistently late, by late, I mean 15-20 mins. Avoid at all costs. By far the worst professor I have ever encountered at Queen's. This lady literally cried in class about Trump winning the election. Like seriously, grow up. Do yourself a favour and don't take anything she teaches.

Honestly the easiest class I have taken at Queen's. Compared to Math121, this class is a joke. Prof Meger is great and she actually teaches very well with some jokes occasionally. The tests are online and really easy just don't work with others so you don't run out of time. The only annoying part of this course is the final project.

Lectures barely cover any content whatsoever and what she does cover are very simple, baseline examples that are nothing like the test questions except for very few specific cases. Tests are long and unfair given the time, final project is unnecessarily long, tedious and annoying to do. Often goes off topic during lectures.
Worst professor I've ever seen.
Often goes off track and does not provide any substantial examples, uses simple examples and then expects students to solve much more complex questions in a short time frame on her online tests. Questions are poorly worded or even unsolvable, tests make up 75% of your grade, meaning it is near impossible to recover if you do poorly one one test.

Professor Meger is a lovely and considerate person who cares about her students and is very enthusiastic about her subjects. She often keeps lectures lighthearted. Unfortunately, the way she teaches was not very effective for me as I struggled to remember many key concepts and had trouble following my notes and the lecture material upon review.
There is no concrete way to prove that the 5 stars were all her, but it is easy to see the common themes and phrases repeated within them. (Scan 60-70% similar) My theory is that if it isn't her, it's a few students who like her and want to save her reputation for her. There is no way 21 unique individuals found her to be 5 stars.
The fact that we took an online multiple choice quiz over a MONTH ago that has yet to be graded, just goes to show how careless meger actually is.
Don't get me wrong she teaches pretty well and overall her class is generally pretty easy but she will find a way to screw over the students in her marking style in one way or another. This has been the case for me in both CISC102 and CISC203.
Erin Meger makes me question the integrity of Queen's Computing. Her lectures are terrible, with numerous spelling and technical mistakes. That directly translates to her few assignments given, they often had no solution and left students pondering for hours about nothing. Do not recommend this prof. In fact, I recommend she stop teaching.
This professor provides no clear grading criteria or expectations, then grades harshly on specifics never outlined or discussed. Her notes are a mess, forcing you to do excessive research for lengthy assignments, only to lose marks because “it's not the way it was taught”—even when your answer is correct. Avoid this prof at all costs.

That is the worst prof ever for a computing department. her teaching are hell and then even if you do an assignment the professional way and more than required, you get your marks off for "not as taught in class" even when she didnt teach it. OR you get 0 marks for a diagram hand drawn which she said was allowed and then changed her mind

Terrible, would 100% not take again!!
My issue is mainly with the deliverables. Quizzes, assignments and mainly problem sets are pretty difficult in this course, and I don't feel like the lectures cover enough material/examples to solve the problems. I had to consult a lot of online material for each problem set question. On top of this, I found the grading to inconsistent among peers.
Awful. Truly awful. By far, the worst professor I have ever had. Changed assignment questions without telling us on multiple occasions, made it very difficult to understand what she wanted for assignments and marks were taken off for the littlest things, often changed her mind and gave inconsistent instructions, slow marker, and the list goes on...

Great professor! Very fun lectures, does her best to accommodate our needs. Quite accessible outside of class. Does a good job at delivering course content in an easy-to-understand manner. I spent about 25 hours on the project which was only worth 15% compared to, say, 3 hrs studying for her 25% test. I only wish the project was worth a bit more :)
The wording of the assignments is ambiguous. Some problems have nothing to do with what I learned in class; I was forced to teach myself how to solve these problems.
Said we would receive our final grades on Dec 24th... it's Jan 6th - still no grades. Very inconsistent and makes false promises. This among many other issues, tough grader, no clear grading outline, and terrible prof overall. Don't take this class with this prof if you can help it.
I heard her voice in my nightmares. Kinda sounded like that person in ur elementary class u always wanna punch. Not that bad at teaching but definitely not the greatest.
Pretty mid professor, gets way more hate than she deserves though. Grading was sometimes hard. Bussin' stickers were goated.
Pros: Had her for 102 and 203. Definitely one of the better CISC professors I've had. Majority of the grade was made up of assignments and problem sets, remaining consisted of take home tests/quizzes. This structure ensured I could do well and properly understand the material. Cons: There have been a few errors in some of the assessments.
Professor Meger truly wanted us to succeed, however sometimes came off as rude and arrogant. She was often upwards of 10 minutes late to class, would waste time talking about her personal life and politics, and then refuse to answer our questions because we were running out of time. Her notes however were clear and useful for studying.
AWFUL. She seemed accommodating and tried to put on a nice face for her students. Do not be fooled. Tons of errors in assignments and unfair grading. Lots of ambiguity regarding submissions too. She likes to go on political rants, when frankly nobody cares, we just want to learn the content. This is not a political class, it's a comp sci class.
I love her energy, she's super sweet and makes lectures actually interesting. I'm never bored in her class, and she makes me actually enjoy the content being taught. I don't know why people have a problem with her - I'd take the fun energetic prof over a droning one any day! Also you get stickers heh
Absolutely terrible professor. She expects a lot but lectures are useless. I learned more from some guy on YouTube than I learned from her the whole semester. She is late all the time and then wastes more time by voicing her political opinion when nobody asked for it or cares to hear it. Avoid. The worst prof I've had at queens ever.
Will always show up 5 mins late, along with wasting time on jokes and stickers . She teaches at least maybe 35 mins a lecture and those 35 mins are not useful at all. She cannot teach, then puts out assignments that are incomprehensible and not even close to being what she covers in lecture. How she has a job is baffling, something must be done.
Took 4 marks off a perfectly written assignment because I didn't make a open file function separate despite the assignment outline specifying they expect two functions. Horrible teacher and tough grader. Very frustrating

This has to be the worst teacher I ever had in my entire life. I had her for CISC102 and now for CISC121, so there is no escaping her as these are core classes. Anyhow, Dr. Meger doesn't know how teach at all! She spends all her classes making jokes, handing out stickers, and just talking about nonsense. I am not here to watch a comedy show. 0/5!
Chill but makes mistakes in class, explains concepts poorly, not punctual, should consider teaching high school.
Lectures are a waste of time. She is late, talks about politics, spends time handing out stickers, gets off topic often. By the time she actually starts teaching, she will teach you the basics and nothing more. Assignments and tests have mistakes, are poorly worded and you will lose marks based on stuff NOT mentioned in assignments.
I wish someone has taken action again meger. It is no rumor that Erin Meger is not fit for this position, she is considered the worst professor in Queens, this has been a known fact ever since she had this position. Please someone take action on this, report her, this cannot continue.
She isn't the best professor, but she means well. You can tell she is trying to be better. That being said, her lessons aren't good. Her tests and assessments are confusing and ambiguous. She wastes so much time in class. Prof meger did not excel at her teaching.
She is so bad that the people who thought she was funny and entertaining are starting to turn on her. Such a horrible professor, lectures are just politics and jokes and assignment and exam questions are worded confusing and awkward. Such a frustrating professor. Expect a 10-15% of what mark you would have got with any other professor.

Terrible, makes this program seem like a joke as a first year. I say this as a student currently doing well in her course, too. Few outright errors on our midterm that she had to correct mid test and many more questions that were worded strangely and could be interpreted multiple ways. How is this even allowed?
not a great prof imo, lectures dont really help much and the notes are quite messy. although the final project is completely fine and marked quite easily as well, idk what others are talking about. she doesnt teach latex yeah but tbh if ure in computing you should be able to learn to read documentation, error msgs and google stuff on your own lol
She needs to hire an editor to proofread her tests. She was making corrections in the middle of the midterm. Her tests and assignments are full of errors and written in a way you can't understand. Her lectures are also useless. She is ineffective in general. Meger gives the computing dept at Queen's a bad name.

It makes me uncomfortable when she brings up politics in class. Like you're entitled to your own opinion, but I think it is both inappropriate and unprofessional to openly state your opinion on every little thing. I don't like politics so meger bringing it up regularly irritates me. She should have a little more respect and awareness.
She tries to trick you on the test
an absolute shambles of a professor. the reason why i put the hilarious tag is because how hilariously awful she is at teaching. brings up politics, what she teaches in class doesnt reflect the depth of assigments, and her tests have so many mistakes. she will design her exams in a way that students will misinterpret the question and lose marks.
I like how she records her lectures but it would be better if her lectures were actually helpful and worth watching. They're a waste of time. You get maybe 20 mins of content being taught. The other 30 mins consist of stupid jokes, handing out stickers, irrelevant political references. CISC 121 could be a great course, but meger makes it awful.
She's always late. It's like she doesn't care about her students. HER TESTS ARE TERRIBLE. Worded so bad and unfair. She likes to make corrections mid test after half of the questions are already answered, like seriously how about you read over it before and make edits before the test is half over. I'm sorry if you have Erin. She is awfully bad. No clear explanations for anything. I honestly don't know how she managed to get her PhD let alone a job as a computing professor. She definitely does not deserve that 150k salary. I want a refund for her class. She teaches absolutely nothing. What a joke
As a person she's nice. As a teacher not so much. She doesn't not go near in depth as she should. The level of the assignments are much harder than anything of the content covered in class. She needs to cover the material much better than she does. She also needs to learn how to stay on topic
She takes forever to mark anything. There are little or no marks back, and it is week 9. She gives no explanations on any assignments that do get graded and handed back. she seems a tad bit underqualified to teach a comp sci class as it seems she hardly knows how to code herself. Refuses to answer emails from students. Brutal!

Absolute terrible professor. I cried so much the night before the midterm bc she didn't teach a thing but somehow expected us to know everything. If everyone does poorly, maybe it's not the students? Maybe it's the teacher? She should be stripped of her teaching duties. Shouldn't be a professor
In all honesty wasn't the biggest fan after already having her first semester however after taking a midterm and failing based on a stupid technical error and meeting with her she was very understanding and you could tell she cared about my success and ended up raising my mark, not saying she is the best prof ever but a very caring woman

I don't normally hate on people but she's has structured this class in a very poor way. Not only that but she struggles to teach the material. She doesn't explain anything well and definitions don't stick. You can still do well but expect significantly less in the course compared to if you had another professor
She goes on random tangents, late to class, misleading questions on tests, grades take forever to get back to us, her office hours are always booked and you can't reach her otherwise. She teaches in a way that makes sense to only her and nobody else. She thinks she's the director of the school of computing or something.
Meger is very engertic and cares about teaching. Her in class nots are hard to read sometimes but the recorded lectures help with that. She is very helpful when asking question after class and during office hours. Test were really hard and felt unfair at points. Overall good if you put the effort into asking for help.
Professor Meger isn't gong to be everyone's cup of tea, but her teaching style matched well with my learning style, and so the course ended up being enjoyable for what is normally a topic I dread.

The exam practice she gives has nothing to do with the exam, let alone the stuff she teaches. At least she passes around a stuffed animal and stickers, because that makes up for her being the reason why half her class can't get into 2nd year computing.
I already have a ton to say on her teaching as a whole. On a more frustrating note, it's days before the exam and I still have NO RESOURCE to study from. Her practice problem sets as with the midterm are clearly not hers, she definitely just took it from the internet and are useless. Worst professor in probably all of Canada, just so unfathomable.

I'm likely to fail this course. I don't blame her for the teaching, but as someone without a CS background, 121 is tough. When I asked questions, she said, "You should've learned this in high school," and pointed out grammar mistakes in comments. As an international student, I hope to avoid her when I retake it.
Erin Meger is the worst professor I have encountered at Queen's, and possibly the worst in Canada. Her notes are very confusing, her lectures don't go into depth. She is an all-around terrible professor. She also makes you feel inconvenienced when you ask questions. The assignments are written in a way that it is easy to misinterpret. Brutal!

Professor Meger left more questions than she ever answered. Constantly being late to lectures, not providing clear information for topics, and going off-topic during lectures when she was there. You will not understand the material being taught, and if you manage to, it will not be because of her.

Genuinely the worst prof I will ever have. she has basically screwed over half of the first year computing students. Ridiculous prof in every way. For context, a different prof taught the same course last semester and the class average was around a mid 70s. ours was mid 50s and more than half our class is prob not gonna make it to second year.

Very nice lady, but my god she cannot teach. It's unfortunate cause she's genuinely a nice person in all the interactions I have had with her, but the constant mistakes she made from typos on lectures and tests, as well as horrible clarity on assignments, hurt a class of students who actually needed this grade, unlike last semester's students.
Profs should teach class w/ clear lesson plans and knowledge of their subject, and Dr. Meger was inconsistent in this regard. Some assignments are convoluted. She gave adequate information about midterms and finals, and provided sufficient resources to study for them. It is possible to do good if you can teach yourself, but do not rely on her.

She answers questions with more questions and makes things way more difficult than they need to be. If the class average is a 51%, maybe there is a problem with the teaching and not the students or the use of ChatGPT.

The worst professor in the department. This course requires a B to enter 2nd year computing and when taught by a diff profs in previous semesters, classes seemed to have decent averages allowing them to make the program. Our midterm average was around a D. Thanks to her, barely anyone's making it through to 2nd yr. Who was insane enough to hire her
Please trust what everyone else on here has said so far. She is incompetent and cannot teach a university class. Her skill set and personality would make a great kindergarten/grade school teacher. But she is definitely NOT a uni professor. Try to avoid, and if you can't, good luck

Shouldn't be too hard of a course but when you get a teacher like Meger who doesn't know what she's doing, it can be very challenging. The assignments were hard because she taught the basics in class and nothing more. If you wanna do good on the tests it's possible, but you'll have to teach yourself. Not sufficient for the university level.
I don't think anyone can honestly give this woman a rating above a 2 star, because she simply does not deserve it. She is very unprofessional and an all around poor professor. I would highly recommend to avoid her classes if you have the chance.
I appreciate her availability outside of class and her grade distribution. But I think she would be better off creating presentations in advance and trying to tackle more than the mere basics of the concepts. There was a huge gap in the complexity of the hw/quizzes and what she effectively taught. VERY tough grading even for correct answers
If you like free stress please take this class. The median was 57 for the midterm and for a B only 15% got the 73 on the midterm worth 35% percent. This prof announces last second(causing everyone to be worried about their future for a whole semester) that she is boosting our grades instead of designing tests properly and teaching AVOID AT ALL COST
This was the most stressful course I've ever taken, but it's not entirely Dr. Meger's fault. She's very friendly, empathetic, and cares about her students, but CISC121 was organized in a super chaotic way this semester. Grading was brutal and instructions were unclear. My advice: go to as many office hours as you can, and DON'T skip class.

The course itself is interesting and I was not bored at the lectures. I knew the material and was confident at all quizes, but the grading criterea was very obscure and after every test I had to appeal the results.

She's not as terrible as everyone says IMO, or at least not at Queen's. That being said, she does waste time in her lectures by yapping, and ends up blitzing through the last 10-20mins making notes impossible let alone understanding the math (especially given her handwriting). She seems to be a kind person though and her teaching is easy to follow.

Cannot teach whatsoever. All she does is throw brainrot around wasting time and then speed through the required topic super fast without explaining half the stuff she's writing. For Cisc 102 her tests are reasonable if you actually put work into understanding the material. Her lecture notes are good but she does speed through topics. She's also extremely accessible outside class if you don't understand something. Overall, a lovely person and great professor.
A lot of these reviews for Meger are very extreme. In my experience, she taught a pretty difficult class really well and I didn't do amazing but still thought she was an amazing prof. If you aren't doing well you need to ask for help for sure, but these reviews are extreme. If you ask for help when you need it you'll be fine.
Dr. Meger is an outstanding professor, particularly helpful for students transitioning from high school. Her midterms are organized, and her office hours/1:1 help are excellent. The final project was perfectly timed right before exams, serving as great final preparation. I sincerely hope to have her as an instructor again at Queen's.

Erin Meger is not as bad as everyone says. If you put the effort in for the quizzes, you will do well, and the content isn't even hard. She can be a bit cringe at times and her notes can be a bit sloppy but it is still good enough to understand. She is also a very nice person if you get to know her and super approachable outside of the lectures.

Yet while im taking the final tomorrow her lectures were always messy and not readable. She tries to post the video recordings but forgets to record them and realizes halfway class. in quizzes she interupts to tell us there is a mistake on quiz. shes good at explaining but undercuts her lectures by making cringe jokes and talks about random stuff.
I didnt take her for cisc 121 so I can't speak on that but in my experience in cisc 102 she is amazing. She cares about her students and her tests are reasonable. The people complaining probably dont know how to study because her lecture notes are good if you consolidate your learning. Also the comments abt her “cringeness” are dramatic.
I love Erin Meger!!!! Either the past reviews are really inaccurate, or she's improved a lot over time. She lets us know pretty much exactly what to expect before quizzes, which are definitely not impossible. She also curves the quizzes. Her lectures are engaging and she records every one and posts her notes (even if her notes are messy)
the negative reviews about dr. meger are grossly exaggerated. you can tell she cares a lot about what she teaches and wants us to succeed. she lets us know exactly what's on the tests and gives a generous curve. admittedly, she does teach some of the units quite fast (especially proofs), but she's not hard to reach out to at all to ask questions.
She's definitely overhated. She cares about the course, and her final was easy and really fair. The only thing I don't like about this class is that they teach us how to do the math, but they never explain why we're doing it. Maybe it'll make more sense in the future, but this course doesn't explain the purpose at all.

Alright so in general prof meger is probably a 3 due to other reasons mentioned here such as going off topic however when it really counts prof meger is a good teacher. I messed up and missed the final in this course but prof meger was willing to accommodate and let me write it later which was genuinely a life-saver.
She cares about her students and is really accessible. Her passing a toy around during a final can only be annoying if you're being destroyed by the final. Records classes and has one of the best TA's. Definitely over hated and can go on tangents during class but I don't mind them because it makes time go by quicker. Overall a really nice person.
Lectures are fun and she does a good job of explaining the concepts she's teaching. Very nice and really seems to care about her students. The actual content itself isn't always the easiest, but everything worth marks is pretty easy. Her low overall rating isn't accurate of the professor she currently is, almost everyone I've talked to likes her.
Go to her office hours she is very helpful and wants you to do good in her class. She's very quick to reply to emails and she is very interactive with her students which make a good professor in my opinion. I don't believe the bad ratings because I've never experienced a bad time in her class and she is very guiding and wants you to succeed!
This course is really easy just read the slides. She posts all the materials and records lectures, so you don't even have to attend. She's very reasonable with grading and genuinely wants students to succeed. As long as you put in minimal effort, you'll do well.
