Very very sweet teacher....extremly helpful when you need help...very easy going...
The best english teacher ever.I like her so much. very easy going.respectful. I really recommen her to ESL students. She understands everything about ESL students. she find even single postitive thing about your writing and encourage you.Highly recommended.sweeeeeeeeeeet
She seems like a very kind person in the beginning but will ignore you and give you bad grades, even though you work hard. I highly recommend a teacher who knows what she is teaching, isn't confused and one that will give you a good mark. She made classes fun at times but you won't get a good mark.
she is the best.really helpful.i liked her so much.she is sssssssoooooooooooo kind.highly recommended.
she seems to be very helpful but she isnt actually. She is sarcastic. In short she is useless. A very tough marker and has no idea about teaching. Avoid taking her classes.
Erin is a great teacher. She keeps the class awake. Very animated. Very organized and helpful. She is a fair marker.
Worst english teacher ever. and endless assignments.
She's a pretty good teacher but don't ever take her hybrid class. Instructions can be frustratingly unclear not only for students, but for her as well. There are endless assignments.
Her teaching is really bad. Her class note is not related to what we suppose to test on. Although she has a better outline of the teaching schedule, she is never following it. She just give us 3 days to read a whole novel which suppose is 2 weeks works. Also, she just give the quiz before she teach the materials. Not helpful at all.
hard marker but is willing to help students succeed
Erin will give you good marks as long as you show up to class and participate. Her instructions and notes can be unclear and confusing: especially on blackboard, and some of her comments/grades for assignments can be mean and insulting?but there is never a dull moment in class. Its always fun! If you take her class, be ready for an endless amount o
Erin Robb grades fairly, easy to follow and keeps you engaged since she's a great presenter and gets your attention! She is also a nice teacher and I learned a lot from her. This course teaches valuable interpersonal skills such as having confidence giving presentations, speeches or just communicating to people effectively.
Erin is a very engaging and encouraging teacher. I learned a lot from her, and I don't really enjoy English that much. Her classes are fun and interactive and she herself is an interesting person. Defenitely come to class and participate, you will get a high mark.
This teacher is by far the most penile teacher I have experienced. She gives assignments and stacks them up before she even marks them! Also, if you are planning to take Eng1127 avoid this teacher. She is not trying to help you transfer to another university, let alone pass if thats what you are looking for. AVOID THIS TEACHER OR RETAKE THE COURSE.
I'm sorry that many people disagree that Erin's an amazing teacher. Perhaps, it's because their priority for a high mark was inhibiting their quest for improvement or perhaps their inability to accept criticism (to better their work) was getting in the way. She's great if you want to improve the way you write rather than to simply get an 'A'.
She is a very very tough marker, all assignments have to be perfect (grammar and format) to even achieve a decent mark. If you miss on either of those, don't expect a mark higher than a C. It is also very hard to become motivated in her classes due to the difficulty. And as others have mentioned, too many assignments. 4th year classes are easier.
Erin is an arrogant and insulting instructor; her marking is overly difficult and esoteric. For example, she did not agree with "picking the story apart" in a literary essay. I got a C/C- on the that paper, even with editing by a third-year English major (who studies at UBC). If you care about getting a mark above a C, do not study under her.
Erin is a wonderful teacher. She came into my ENG 1129 class halfway through last semester and worked really hard to make the transition as uninterupting as possible. I even dropped another class so I could be in her 1130 class this semester. She's really helpful and will take the time to go over your work with you. Fair marker. You'll learn a lot!
Rude and arrogant, her instructions are unclear and confusing. Don't take this class with erin, you will hate it and get a bad grade. Its not worth all the work involved to get a lousy grade after all that effort.
i never thought that i would rate any of my teachers because i always overcome their hard way of teaching, marking, and explaining. However, Erin Robb is the worst teacher you can ever ever ever take in communications class. Her assignments are unclear, discourage, not achieving their intended goal. Do yourself a favor and take another teacher!!
She seems nice, but she expects way to much for a 3 credits. Try to give her 110% in her classes. You can also avoid her. I suggest avoiding her as an instructor.
Do not take her course. She does not know what she expects from her students (exactly). Beware the textbook is not all congruent with her teachings. This is because she does not fully know the textbook material. It is funny that she sometimes learn from her students than the textbook. Her teachings can be contradicting to the textbook. Good luck
Bad teacher beware
Had a great class with Erin this past term. I was a bit wary after reading these comments, but if you act like a human being/student (go to class, participate, ask for help, give your all) then you'll do well in her class. She does dock marks if you miss though - so show up.
Avoid her! She only care about your grammar but nothing else of your work. Just talk about ppt during class and the textbook she required us to buy is useless. She likes to see her students fail her class.
Erin is a nice teacher upfront. However, she marks very brutally with no remorse, and whenever you email her questions or concerns, she rarely returns them unless it is extremely important to her. If I had to take 1127 again, I would avoid her, and I hope you do the same.
Erin is a fantastic teacher, very encouraging and gives meaningful feedback. It's very obvious that she takes a lot of time marking and commenting on each paper. She is very willing to help or chat about assignments after class/office hours. Participate and you'll be in her good books! There's no such thing as a stupid theory if you can back it up
Avoid her. I don't mind if a teacher marks hard, however, she gives unclear instructions. Did not enjoy her class one bit.
Nice instructor, willing to help when you ask. However, she marks EXTREMELY HARD for a first year English course. Even if you attend all her classes, it is highly possible to receive a very low mark. Avoid her courses!
Super nice and super engaging in her lectures. It's definitely not a class you will ever sleep though. However, she is a crazy hard marker. All of my other profs always comment on how well written I am, where as in her class I could only manage a B.
Such a hard marker!!! If you want an easy-going experience don't take it with her - she will make your life more stressful. Although her instructions are clear, her recommendations aren't. She's very specific about what she's looking for and if you miss one thing it your whole mark suffers.
HARDEST MARKER EVER! I regret taking her class and wish i had looked her up prior. Yes her classes are decent and she is a nice lady but if you want to do well do NOT take English with her!
One of the worst teachers I have had in my Langara career. Very unclear about her assignments. VERY HARD MARKER. Rude. If you take her online class something is due every week and it is really hard to keep on track if you are a full time student. She destroyed my GPA
Not a helpful teacher. She does not give clear instructions to what she wants from us. We had to write letters and make up excuses to responses to complaints for one of the assignment, but she would give out low marks because she does not like our excuses. DO NOT take her courses.
I took Erin's 1st yr- 1130 &t then her 2nd year course (2233) The Pop Culture of Zombies. The 1st year she was great- yes she was a hard marker but she gave great feedback on my papers. The 2nd year course was amazing! I could not wait to go to class every week and the books/movies were amazing! She was always helpful during office hours.
Erin is a hard marker, but is very clear about what she expects. Makes herself available during office hours & encourages students to come see her. She's approachable and friendly, class was engaging. Attendance is important; you will lose marks for skipping. Erin's not easy but she is thorough, which is helpful in learning proper writing styles.
Although she is nice in class, she is an extremely hard marker. Unless you're extremely good (like 'A' material) at essay writing, do not take anything with her because she will tear you apart.
She is a good teacher and her classes are enjoyable. However the way she marks is cruel. Your essay and homework have to be absolutely flawless: grammar, sentence structure and claims/evidence. If it's not, you will not get a good grade. I recommend avoiding her unless you have flawless writing. Never have I failed an essay...
E.Rob is great! All CMNS teachers are the same as in they are very particular about what they want. Just follow format given and if your unclear ask do not go with a gut feeling always ask. A-
Knowledgeable about the subject matter but very unclear about her expectations in terms of work from the students. And there are A LOT of assignments. Also very obviously picks favourites from the class and it's almost impossible to disagree with an argument. Unless I was utterly devoted to the material, I wouldn't take a class with her again.
The most challenging course I've ever taken. Her marking is brutal. In fact, if the students evaluate her the way she marks assignment, she won't be in a teaching position at all. I will not take her course again.
The amount of time and effort you put into this course does not correlate with the mark you are going to receive. I'm in shock. For the first time in my college career I have absolutely no idea what final grade I'm going to get. It just seems like I'm not in control of anything :,-(
She's the kind of teacher that if you pay attention and do the work you get a good grade. She is very kind, and willing to help after class. You can reach her any time by email with any questions you have, getting a fast response. She is knowledgeable and will blow your mind with some of the stuff she thinks of. Great teacher! I loved her class.
I really like Erin, she is kind and encouraging. She is very willing to help, and is more than happy to talk with you about how to improve your writing. Very passionate about her work and I respect that. She is a tough grader, but once again, is more than willing to help you improve. If you are interested in doing well in her classes, you will.
Overall her teaching is ok. She maybe rude at times (at least sounds like that through her messages and comments). She gives a great and helpful feedback, but her grading is not clear. Not the worst instructor.
Erin is the most challenging, most beneficial professor I have taken as an English major. She is patient, eloquent and, well, tough. She's tough because she wants you to do well, to be a better student and writer than you were before. Go see her in her office hours and put some effort in. Don't expect an A, work for it.
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, very interesting class. Approach her and you won't regret it, she's super helpful. She marks tough and expects you to write at a high standard. Go to class and participate! Read your books beforehand. If you're not very insightful, research your books to find good literary analysis. She's very big on that.

I really like her! There are a lot of assignments but expectations are clear. Follow her instructions EXACTLY and listen to the feedback she gives you to get the best marks possible. Erin succeeds in injecting personality into her course materials and course delivery which is refreshing. I recommend her highly!
I took English 1127 thinking it would be an easy A (essays are my thing) and I was definitely wrong. Erin knows her stuff but is the hardest marker I've ever had. The average grade she gives on assignments is below 65%, and don't expect more than 72% for your final grade. With that being said, you will learn a lot in this class.
Erin is great person, but an incredibly hard marker. Do NOT take her class if you are looking for an easy grade.
I loved having Erin as a teacher, she is a reasonable marker as she tells you exactly what she wants before hand and if you follow that you will get a good mark. She has a lot of feedback to offer and is super approachable!
Terrible
Erin is a really friendly and approachable teacher! For every paper we wrote she would give you a paragraph of feedback on what she liked and how you could improve. Her "quizzes" are more like tests though, 50 marks. You get to miss 3 classes no penalty, but after that she deducts 1% from your overall mark for each class missed. Overall good though
Erin is a great professor. She responds to emails very fast & gives detailed answers to any questions you may have. She will look over samples pieces/outlines that you write and give feedback before in class essays or for take home papers. You have to work hard for your grade but she is a fair marker! Some group work during class, but no projects
By far the best English prof I've ever had. Her insights and analysis of stories are so detailed and she brings up some amazing points that not many people would be able to mustard up on their own. Erin is all around an incredible person and professor
the prof was really tough grader and that's all
Only take this instructor if absolutely HAVE to. The worst I've experienced throughout my entire time at the college. It seemed although she almost wasn't taking the grading process very seriously. Her replies to assignments were unclear and not specific. Instructors like Erin Robb are the reason the education system is under fire. DO NOT TAKE
not the best, but she's alright
-Erin is super nice & funny but she's a tough marker -Gives students opportunities to improve -Leaves good feedback on assignments I did well in high school Eng w/ A's so ENG 1127 with Erin was a shock at first (class avg for first paper was a C+& I got a B) but I've learned a lot from her. Attend class regularly, pay attn, read, and you're good :)
Erin's english class might be the most challenging class I've ever taken in Langara. Getting a great grade from her is almost close to impossible however, her feedbacks on your assignments are really helpful. You just need to understand what she wants to be on your paper. Pay close attention to the smallest of details and READ READ READ
Lectures are well-presented, clear, and involve participation. Grading is fair, can be a bit tough, but feedback is honest and useful. In respect to the research paper, would be nice to see discussions about topics other than internet fad buzzwords. However, she will teach you how to use proper citation and write a solid first-year paper.
Erin is a VERY HARD marker. Do not take this class unless you have to (unless you want a challenge)
Erin is super friendly and approachable, and her lectrures are engaging and interesting. Her standards for assignments are very high: everything has to be perfectly worded, organized, and accurate or you will not get a good mark. Expect to drop a full letter grade compared to other English classes at Langara. Overall I would still recommend her.
Erin was the best teacher EVER!!!!
Erin is a hard marker but gives clear grading criteria. Gives great feedback on papers & is more than happy to help you during/outside of class. Mostly graded on in-class & take home writing (2 big projects, 2 small) & 2 tests (1 on poetry & 1 on a novel). All class notes are fair game; no surprises. Preps students well for essays & exams.
In my opinion, Erin is the best teacher. Of. All. Time. She teaches so well that its hard to not understand a concept she is teaching. She is almost always willing to chat with you outside of class, as long as the topic is about class. Erin gives very good feedback, and is very inspiring. She is pure awesomeness.
Erin is a super nice prof and every lecture helps for every essay, test and exam. Do not skip a class! It's very crucial to attend. I love her lectures, as she makes it so fun. If you have difficulties in English in the past, you shouldn't take her class as she marks super hard! If you do, she's always willing to help! :)
It's such a shame that Erin is such a brutal marker and her classes are cancelled way too often, other than that she is a really good instructor: good PowerPoint slides and lectures; very passionate in her teaching; she always smiles when you have a question or you participate, always glad to help you out, whether through email or her office hours.
Because I commute far, its dismaying Erin cancels class last minute. She is a harsh brutal marker, the kind that expect an English major quality. I felt discouraged as a student to write for myself but rather write for her. It's possible to do well in this course but it must be within her parameters. Outside of class, unhelpful and condescending
Erin is not the clearest with her grading process. This course is not an easy B, 72% and below is what the class avg almost r very essay. We must all b that bad. Extremely hard marker.
Erin was great at teaching English, but she's a very tough marker. Her grading criteria was unclear as well, and she doesn't really respond to emails that often. You only really use the textbook for the first couple of weeks of the semester.
Erin is a cool prof, she is super funny and enjoys teaching students. Homework is super heavy, since it is a half online course, she assigns 2-3 readings per week and asks you to answer textbook questions on top of the quizzes she has assigned already. Could be an easy A if you don't mind the readings, need to focus in class to pass the exams tho.
Erin is a good instructor, You writing skills will improve by taking her class. is wish online class had video visuals of her teaching as well. Erin if you are reading this, You are one the best instructors that Langara has, you give amazing feedback and you improve you students, But please be easier on grading, Your marking is tough.
Erin is a very kind and caring teacher. She is very open to helping you and will answer all your questions, and is often open to receiving and proof reading your drafts so you can submit your best work. But boy, she does expect a lot from first year level college students so you can anticipate working your butt off or receiving a below average mark
SAVE YOURSELF FROM CLASS WITH ERIN ROBB. I am a straight A/B student who failed her class because she is an extremely tough and unfair grader. She marks based on her own opinions and if you don't agree with her opinion, you'll get a bad mark. The class average for most of the tests was around 60%. She is also condescending. Absolutely horrible.
I really enjoyed Erin's style of teaching and she's very approachable when you have questions. I probably asked her 20 questions over one of the essays, but she was patient with me. The lecture videos were relatively short but they're engaging and concise. She also gave us lots of writing tips throughout the semester, which was extremely helpful.
SUCH A HARD MARKER!!! You feel like you know the material until you get your grades back. her lectures are good, but when it comes to marking getting a 60% is an accomplishment. Don't take her class unless you HAVE to.
Erin is very nice and really helps you whenever you ask for it. She takes time to help you with essays and replies quickly via email. This class was difficult and time-consuming but if you work very hard and ask for help, you will do well. I recommend taking Erin.
Erin Robb is a great teacher, however is a very tough marker. I would suggest not take her class if you are 3 or more courses because her class is very time-consuming.
Had to take Engl 1129 as a elective English credit for my program. I figured since it was a first-year course it would be easy, and the prof would be more understanding. But I was wrong. Her grading criteria for assignments is so unclear and she expects all of us to be english majors. Would not take her class again, even if you need the course.
NEVER TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS IT WAS THE ONLY OPTION AND YOU REALLY. Must She is a harsh grader if she disagrees with an idea she will give it a bad grade. She is very vague with unclear instructions and has English major expectations IN A FIRST YEAR ENGLISH COURSE. Is not helpful at all and will always dismiss you. Work so hard for NOTHING.
Be prepared for a lot of reading, watching lectures, and completing weekly quizzes and discussions. There are 3 big papers and the exams are fairly lengthy. She keeps a very good schedule and is able to accommodate any situation that you are in. She is easy to contact too and is a fair grader (just make sure you're all caught up).
Erin Robb is an okay professor; her grading is just very tough.
Erin's passion for ancient literature is infectious! She puts so much effort into class communication and engagement. She went above and beyond to make sure our workloads weren't too overwhelming, even adjusting the syllabus several times based on our needs/feedback. 100% recommend her as a prof, amazing teacher and wonderful person :)
Well, I think she is the most difficult teacher that I have ever taken. I usually got 70-85 for my writing, but in her class, I got 40-65%. You will have to do many discussion posts in her online class.
Erin is a very nice teacher but her marking style is very aggressive
She's a nice teacher and clearly cares for the students. However, when it comes to papers and tests she marks fairly heavy, making her Intro to Academic Writing a little discouraging - however, if you're fairly organized you'll survive.
Erin is an amazing prof! I genuinely enjoyed her in-person lectures and class material. She is very engaging and thorough with her marking and feedbacks, showcasing how much she really want you to succeed in the class and your studies. Her in-class discussions are insightful and allows you to think critically; helps with the assignment materials.
Erins a really great professor who gives clear criteria of what she expects from you. This class definitely isn't the easiest but she is fair about it. Her marking can be harsh but the main thing is that if you are willing to put in the effort and time she will help you with becoming a better writer and is always super nice about it.
Erin is a nice person and her lectures consist mostly of slides and some group work for points. She sometimes gave extensions to everyone and also would give 3-day extensions to the group with the most points. The only problem is her marking is quite harsh. She does show quite a passion for English so I can understand why her expectations are high.
She helps you succeed. Discussion posts every end of the week, but they're for your own good and practice. Does have a final paper exam but she makes sure you practice before and prepares you well for it. Kind and helpful and is available in person via appointment. If you need help, make sure you reach out because she will help you get that A!
For a communications professor, she has no clue how to communicate effectively. Sour rude lady
Erin is a wonderful instructor. She is also very understanding and helpful. My computer had a glitch that made it failed to save my final exam properly. I just found out after receiving the final grade. When I explain the situation to her and provide proof of my work, she revised the grade! Just work hard and you'll receive good grades!
I read some of the earlier ratings and they scared me a little before taking the class. She's a nice teacher and I think her grading is pretty fair. It's a mandatory class for me but it wasn't anything surprising. It can get a little boring at times but show up, read the pre-lecture material, and participate and you'll be fine. TLDR: Pretty good :)
Erin is an outspoken, kind and passionate instructor. She puts a lot of effort into a subject that can be a little tedious to learn for some people and enjoys doing fun little group games from time to time to increase class attention. Overall, make sure to attend class and read ahead of class.
felt like she was trying to trip me up and fail me, very unapproachable
she is the worst! she barley gives scores, she talks about same stuff over her lectures and is not effective for what comes in the exams,
Not great, lectures not helpful at all, gave little to no practice for tests/essays. Criteria was very vague. Would not recommend.
She is the worst, just RUN
Erin is a tough grader, but her class is worth taking. Engage with the material and use resources like Unstuck ai to excel. Fair if challenging.
Just don't bother taking her courses
Erin is an unwavering, passionate teacher who cares deeply for her students. Only pick her class if the topic interests, you its NOT an easy grade. It requires effort and participation, but its well worth it. Shes excitable, well read, and very accommodating. My low grade is due to scheduling issues, which she helped me work around. I admire her.
Nothing to say.
She's a nice professor, but very strict on thesis, claim and more. I'll not recommend to take her class if u just need a credit and a high grade. best of luck for anyone in first year is taking her class.
I had this professor for Classical Studies Ancient Greece and I found her methods to be very good and the other students were very receptive of the teacher and her lecture style. We didn't have any homework. Professor Robb is a teacher I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in ancient cultures and great stories about monsters.
She can be caring at times, but she made the course very unpleasant. She is a heavy grader and very strict about attendance. allows only three sick days; even beyond that, if you are genuinely ill, 1% is deducted from your overall grade. There is also a large amount of homework and group work. Overall, I would not recommend her course to others.
