If its possible to rate someone zero, that's what I would rate her. I've never hated any professor in my 4 years of university, till I had her. She took unpreparedness and unknowledgeable to a whole new level. Can't pronounced terms properly, yet she would call you out if you stutter in presentations. WORST prof ever. Time & money wasted. AVOID
Unprepared. Doesn't know a thing about what she's teaching. It was like she was reading the notes for the first time. She marks very harsh given that her standards for herself are on the floor. Tests were made so much harder given that she DID NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING, just read the words off the slide and somehow expected you to know what it meant.
While it's true that she did seem unknowledgeable about the content most of the time, her notes were pretty comprehensive and 15% of the course was based on participation and forum posts, which are basically free marks. The midterm and exam were tough but completely doable because they were open book. I pulled an A solely through using control F.
This is a 400 level class. Getting an A by copy pasting and control F reflects how poorly this course was taught and graded. The notes used were not even her own and she did not bother to learn the names and pronunciations of what she was teaching us. This is not the quality of education people are paying to attend University of Alberta for.
I don't really understand the hate I see her getting. I think she's a new prof but I thought she did good. The notes make sense and the exams were fair. The paper for this class was graded fairly. Also, she was very understanding and caring towards me over emails. She seemed like she wanted everyone to do well.
HARDEST CLASS to exist, midterm was so hard. I don't think i'll be passing this class. Everyone is yapping about control f, but I was about to f4 the midterm because of how done I am with this hard class. None of the questions can be found online as well.
Good prof, great exams
Good prof, great exams i dont know why the dude below is complaining, Erin Scully is the GOAT .
Her notes were simple and straight to the point. I don't understand why some people rated her so poorly. She explains stuff easily by providing examples that are really easy. Her exams were fair. No textbook is needed. All of the questions were from her slides.
Given the format of the class, I was really impressed with Dr Scully. Her lectures were great (but prerecorded), and her notes were clear. Both midterms were fair and easy, and it was just a very enjoyable experience.
I don't understand why people don't like her- Dr. Scully has been nothing but awesome all semester. She's accessible outside class, accommodating, and is kind and approachable. Assessments were very fair, and things were marked in a timely manner. Epic!
I really didn't enjoy this prof. Reads off the slides and it seems like she has never seen them before in her life. Lectures don't always make sense but she does not elaborate, which makes me think she does not know what is going on. Needs to be more prepared. When she does explain things sometimes it is wrong... I think I could teach better.
I really enjoyed professor Scully's class this semester. Her midterms and the final were very fair and the assignment that she had us to was very interesting. She added humour into her lecture which made the material much more interesting. Despite other reviews she is very knowledgable in her feild and is always helpful with the material.
She is the best!! I don't know why other people are hating on her but she is my favourite. She explains everything so well. She jokes around in her videos too which made me look forward to her videos. Her exams are super fair. I would totally recommend taking her
Literally the best and coolest.
I was disappointed in her teaching ability and felt that it did not reflect the teaching style of a 400-level course. She showed a lack of preparation and only ever read off the slides. When asked a question, her responses were very vague and sometimes wrong. I felt that she and I were learning this course for the first time.
Honestly, I think she is great at being a PHD student and can make some great jokes. I think she'd be a great person to be around in a casual setting but I just found the amount of lecture slides and lack of direction when doing the term paper to be horrible. Her grading comments are condescending. She will grade harshly. Be prepared :)
She's a new prof and psychopharmacology is not her field of study. She makes lectures interesting but definitely doesn't know the material as well as I would have expected for a 400 level class. Her dyslexia definitely doesn't pair well with pharmacological terms and she can't elaborate on lots of the info. I would take another class with her
Definitely cares about being relatable and making the lecture fun. This class is honestly free marks with the low difficulty of the exams and very very low workload. You could easily get by on just the videos she's provided.
Professor Scully was excellent for PSYCH 473 (Seminars in Biological Psychiatry). We had student lectures (which needed participation) about half of the time, and then asynchronous lectures the other half. The presentation was very doable, and exams were fair. Professor Scully is an engaging lecturer and such a nice person, would highly recommend!
I personally loved this professor, very caring and funny. However, I did not like her exams, it was very vague with tough questions.
Prof. Scully is a solid professor, she does her best to make class interesting and is energetic and nice. The course was quite easy and very low workload, just exams (require some memorization), research participation, and one very simple written assignment. Recommend if you are interested in the topic or want a more chill Science elective.
I would not recommend this class. While we didn't actually learn anything from the lectures, the Midterms (2) and final (cumulative) were impossible. They were very long, vague, and nothing to do with the course material given. You also won't get help with any questions you ask and will be directed you to go email someone else.
The best new prof. I love going to her lectures. I know some people didn't like the exams, but it seemed more like people had never taken a psych exam.
Take the online course if you want a laid back class. Test were fair. It's just kinda long. Dr. Scully was really nice but the online videos can get boring.
she was an easy marker and she had very clear expectations in some cases it felt like she expected much less so overall in the sense of presentations and the term paper it was a breeze. The lectures aren't mandatory attendance but she verbally tells you a lot of information which may be more helpful than just what she adds on slides.
Fantastic Professor! Makes the topics you learn interesting. Good comedy. Respectful to students. Excellent communication skills! This is a professor that cares for her students and for her specialization. Classes were fun and enjoyable every time!
Very unprofessional. Lacked knowledge in the field and struggled to effectively relay information from her slides. I stopped attending lectures and just went over slides myself because at times she would confuse me with incorrect/or irrelevant information. Very easy course overall but by the end I felt like I knew the content better than herself.
She did a very good job teaching the material but I found the course layout just awful, each chapter was broken down into individual videos which made studying a challenge. Be prepared to keep track of which video (and time stamps) she talks about each topic and you'll do fine.
Just had a midterm where she tested material from a Cognitive Psychology textbook that a different class was using! Also, questions were on the test that were not covered in class, and when confronted with it she stated that we should have known because it was from psych 104/5. She should be more careful in reviewing exams beforehand.
Dr. Scully was one of the most disorganized professors I've ever seen. Her exams featured content from other courses, and she often messed up and had to take questions off because she did not review the exam enough beforehand. This was a common theme. Her notes were disorganized and she often did not know what she was talking about. AVOID!!!!
The tests were not difficult she will tell you what to expect on the test. She was also super chill during the lectures and made psych more interesting. There were 2 midterms and an assignment that was 6 brief questions that you could send to her for feedback and basically get an easy 100% on 5% of your grade. A real GPA booster with a great prof.
She just be making stuff up sometimes. Did not even use her own slides for this class. Completely unprepared and lacked expertise on what she was teaching. Depended on other students to provide correct answers because she didn't know herself. Spends about 45 minutes of the 50 minute class spewing nonsense "fun facts."
One of my favourite courses I've taken thus far! Sure, she said a few things that were incorrect, but she would always correct herself, and was learning along with us (it was her first time with this course). Those who had trouble likely did not show up to class or ask for other students' notes. I was able to stay engaged for the entirety of class!
Make sure to buy a PSYC 104/5 textbook if you take this course, as our midterms had questions from 104 as "they are common sense" and we should know/remember them. Several questions were taken from another textbook that another professor uses which we complied evidence on as this screwed us over yet she was not accommodating about it nor sorry.
Erin is a good proff. Not sure why she was rated lower since the beginning of the year she had a nice 4.5/5 rating. She was easy to understand and made instructions clear. Would take it again if you're looking at PSYCH as an option. She has terrible jokes lol and has a weird sense of humour, but not too shabby.
Brutal professor. Don't bother asking her any questions because the answer will probably be "I don't know." She deserves a standing ovation for taking a simple straight-forward class and making it unbearable for 4 months. If you think you know more than her, you probably do. If you think you can teach this class better than her, you probably can.
Save your money. Stay home. Teach it to yourself through YouTube.
Despite the challenging tests and sometimes unclear presentation of material, I sympathize with the prof as it was her first time teaching this course. Dr Scully demonstrated kindness, good intentions and an effort to make the class engaging.
She has expertise in psychology, but not in neuroscience. She's kind and understanding, but didn't know what she was talking about in class and it was evident. More study and preparation on her part will help in the future. Notes didn't really make sense sometimes and exam questions always had weird wording. A lot of self-teaching is necessary.
She has no clue what she is talking about. Every slide was copy pasted from the textbook, and she LITERALLY MISREAD THE TEXTBOOK AT TIMES so her slides were sometimes WRONG. ZERO original thoughts, or anything original to add to material. Why pay $750 bucks for her class when you will learn better from a $150 text book. She needs to try harder.
Going to her lectures have to be the most useless way to learn anything about this course. Half the time she is rambling about stuff that isn't even on her slides or in the textbook. Honestly I would probably avoid taking her class if I knew what I was going into.
Dr. Scully was very nice although overall disorganized. I have never seen a prof as all over the place as her. For a psych 104 course she was fine but I cannot imagine her in higher level courses. Exams were relatively easy, she practically told you what was on the exam. Honestly, just go to lectures and you'll barely need to study
Her lectures were engaging and I found the course easy enough for the most part. The written assignment was a free 5% and she outright tells you what's going to be on the exams. However she was pretty disorganized and I might be hesitant to take a higher level course with her, might explain the contrast between her reviews in 104 and 275.
Okay - she is a very nice and funny person. If I could learn neuroscience from personality alone, I'd give her a 10/10. Unfortunately she was just not well prepared to teach this course. I know it was her first time, so I hopefully she can move forward with a little more familiarity with the material. I'd love her if she just knew material more.
Dr.Scully is hilarious! I thoroughly enjoyed her lectures. I would suggest attending class as she gives a lot of examples to help you remember the material better and hints about the midterms and the final.
Super fun prof! She won't grade anything that was not discussed in class and the course goals are super clear. Loved the notes and her support, 10/10 would take again
Not here for the Scully slander. She is very approachable and takes criticism with her teaching very seriously. I've had her for 2 classes and she had made these awful bio heavy classes so much easier. She knows her stuff and knows how to simplify things for the most thickheaded individuals (me). She has great energy and responds quickly to emails
I had her for the first time this semester and she was awesome. Her lectures were actually enjoyable and it seemed like most of the class wanted to be there. I didn't find her tests to be very hard, and there was only one small homework assignment
RUN FOR UR LIFE! She did not match her lectures with her exams. The exams have questions that are not even in the notes and she tests extremely small details. She just reads off slides and does not lecture.
While I think some of these reviews are a bit harsh on Dr. Scully, there is truth to them. There were questions on every exam that were neither covered in the lecture nor the textbook. She did not know the material well (aside from a couple of chapters), which showed in her teaching. Also, she doesn't round grades at all just as an FYI.
Scully is a rlly good prof, she tried her best to make the lectures entertaining & related them to her own life, making it easier to remember. Her exams were pretty easy too, if you pay attention & just study you'll do good! Her final is cumulative but it was so crazy easy, very surface level with no crazy indepth questions. 100% recommend.
Please save yourself the trouble, stress, frustration and take the other professor
Unprofessional and unprepared. It doesn't appear Dr. Scully put any effort into preparing for this course, short of reusing another instructor's notes. Lectures involved her reading off a computer. Many exam questions were poorly worded or not relevant to the course material, and assignment instructions and expectations were vague. Avoid!
Very enthusiastic about what she taught, with lots of examples provided to reinforce concepts. 2 midterms that you could receive good marks on with small-medium amount of studying, a 1-page written assignment, and a 100-question final that was slightly easier than the midterms. If you need an easy and interesting elective, I recommend Dr. Scully!
loveddddd erin, she came up with little stories to describe ideas and they helped me remember things better for the exams. shes so fun, I actually enjoyed going to her 8am. and she gives such good hints as to what will be on the finals, throughout her lectures she will literally give us the answers.
Shes nice and funny. Tests on her lecture slides and what she says in class. When comparing her to another prof she is a 3 at best, she put random things from Psych 104 on the test and doesnt realize some people havent taken that for four years. Her written assignment was a grade booster. Not very knowledgeable on the topic, she follows textbook
This is going off my last review as well. Her tests had typos and a couple of unfair questions. She would mostly read off her computer. She is really communicative though and does give hints about the exam, If you are going to take her go to the review sessions!! She literally tells you what to focus on.
I'm unsure if this is due to Dr. Scully or because of the course material itself but this PSYCH 104 class was probably the easiest science course I have taken in my entire life. Despite this, I remain fond of Dr. Scully. I found her lectures very entertaining, and her many attempts to assist the class may have very well led to my success.
Don't be scared by these reviews. Class was great, easy A. Scully has the background so sometimes she jumped ahead of us, but always reined it in when we had questions. Also gave extra credit.
She's very knowledgeable about the topic and can easily answer any question her students have on the concepts. She's very clear on her instructions and expectations for the midterms and final exam and completely understands the life and stress of a student. Would definitely take again
Scully is an amazing prof! She made classes incredibly entertaining and gave good examples for specific topics. The midterms and final were very straight forward. She is also available after lectures for questions, and has accessible office hours. Her review sessions tell you EXACTLY what to study for. I highly recommend her to any new student!
As a neuroscience student, it was very evident that Dr. Scully does not have a solid neuroscience background. She answered questions bordering on incorrect sometimes :( BUT regardless of this, she is a very kind, attentive, and organized professor. Tests were as expected and very fair, and she is very kind in office hours.
She was a super great professor and always made assignments as easy as possible because she doesn't like to grade things. Although attendance isn't mandatory it is really useful to go because she gives answers for the midterms and final. She had a whole class before the final to tell us exactly what topics to study before the exam.
Erin is a really great prof and makes lecture very enjoyable. It's her second time teaching this course, and she 100% took the feedback she got from last semester to improve for this one, so I really appreciate and respect that. She is also very easy to follow and gives good examples. I highly recommend her, she makes the course easy and fun.
Although Dr. Scully's class was very easy, I would never take a course with her again. She read verbatim from the textbook and often did so wrong without correcting herself. She removed 40% of my grade on the paper for a small citation error and was unwilling to adjust grades. She was inconsiderate, unknowledgeable, and a waste of money.
Average psychology class with an ok professor. Make sure you 4x or at least 2x speed the lecture videos so you don't fall asleep because she talks a little too slow in my opinion.
Was enjoying this class, thought she was a kind prof who taught pretty well and the exams were ok for the most part. Then, she took 33% off the assignment worth 15% because I put a couple of in-text citations in the wrong spot. Completely unnecessary and uncalled for, especially since many exam questions are used (without citation) from textbooks
The two miderms were not too bad except there were questions that we didn't cover in class or in the textbooks. It was composed of MC, fill in the blank. There is one paper that was fairly easy and fun. The final was exactly like the midterms but had written questions as well (again it was pretty good).
she clearly has no idea what shes talking about and cant pronounce majority of simple terms. ex) duodenum ex) osmotic
While her lectures are entertaining, they don't go into detail, making extensive studying vital for the two midterms. She's also a tough grader, cutting 50% off a written assignment for a single error. Her email responses were dismissive of my anxiety and grief, she does not negotiate regardless of situation.
It surprised me to see such a low rating. I love Dr. Scully and her class!
She is one of the funniest, and easy-going profs you will find in uni. She makes class so fun, and she always sets her students up for success. She informs us what the test will be on, and makes sure we are fully prepared.
She has issues answering questions that expand on the lectures. Lectures are entertaining however. Also is very short and unprofessional in emails
I didn't appreciate her attitude. Exams are fair and lectures are easy to follow, but tough grader. I lost a lot of marks for small minor mistakes. She was unprofessional and unaccommodating through email. I wouldn't take her again unless I had no other option
Her lectures were good and a lot of the material was a repeat of Bio 30 so sometimes it would get repetitive. Her exams were very straightforward and it was not like she was trying to trick you in any way. She isn't the most professional when it comes to emails but the class is so easy you probably won't have to email her anyway.
My impression from day one was that Dr. Scully is unprofessional. She frequently digresses to give editorial views and was rude to opinions that oppose hers, even advocating for punching people. She did not care to pronounce terms she was supposed to teach, tested material not covered in class, or referenced once. Good luck you happened to miss it.
Scully was great, show up to the lectures and put in the effort and the class will be a breeze.
Scully is a hilarious prof, her lectures are never boring and she posts lectures online too. She is clear about what would be on the exam and never tries to trick much, overall totally recommended
Awesome lady, tried her best to make classes engaging and interesting. What was taught in lectures directly correlated to the midterms and exams. You can tell she wants you to succeed in this course. She writes her exams in a way that makes sense and are not aimed to trick you. Overall would highly recommend.
Super interesting class, but there's a ton of material to memorize and the exams were pretty hard. The final is also cumulative which made it hard to study for with the amount of info to memorize.
Overall, I liked Erin. She was very engaged in her lectures; you can tell that she is passionate about what she does. Quizzes at the end of every chapter were based on the textbook and not as much about what was spoken about in class, which I wasn't the biggest fan of.
Lectures are engaging, prof is very funny and passionate about teaching. Chapter quizzes do require the textbook and aren't off the lectures, but you get 2 attempts and searching for key words is usually enough. Sometimes questions on exams are a bit of a stretch; exams have a lot of application/story type questions. Overall very fun course.
Funny and entertaining, and clearly cared about what she was teaching. The midterms and final were straightforward and only tested on lecture slides. She held a review class before every midterm and final where she gave very helpful details for the test. Some brief open book online quizzes based on the textbook. Overall fantastic professor.
She didn't provide practice questions, marked very tough but expectations were unclear, exams were unfair and difficult, rude in emails and when answering questions in class made students feel little, was not accessible outside of class.
She is clearly very passionate about the material and cares about the success of her students. Her lectures were engaging, and she made sure to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways. She was always willing to answer questions and give extra help. She also held review classes and gave helpful hints for the midterms and final exam.
It was a super easy course, plus she made all the information interesting and easily understandable. she gives a brief overview of tests before them and they are always spot on so always show up to the review class before a test.
Loved Scully so much. She is forsure my fav prof I've had so far. Super funny and entertaining and exams were so easy and straightforward. The exams were lecture based, textbook only used for short online quizzes also super easy, so legit just show up and jot down what she says outside the slides and you are set. Never a boring class w Scully!
I looked forward to every psych class because of how hilarious Erin is. She explains the concepts in such an entertaining way and her passion for the topic is evident. I will say this is not a class that you can get away with not studying but it's very minimal effort needed.
Haven't done any exams as of yet, but overall strictly in terms of teaching, I would say she has a lot to work on. She often times give incorrect information and seems to read off her slides, can't expand or explain further very much on a lot of topics, she also can't pronounce any of the words. For a 400 level class it seems poorly designed
She was messy and all over the place, genuinely a nice person but everything was rushed at the end of the course.
Great professor. All lectures were posted online and explains content in simple ways.
If you are looking for a PSYCH 104 prof to take highly recommended. Exams were very straight forward and relatively easy. Take notes about what she says in class and study, you will do great in this course. Come to class because her examples during her lectures are so helpful.
Scully is very approachable and is willing to answer any questions you have during class and during the exam! The way she explains things just makes so much sense to me. I took this class last year and find myself comparing a lot of my new profs to her. My only complaint is that her tests are pretty difficult.
I enjoyed Dr. Scully's class, she offers lots of examples and helpful tips in her lectures. Her tests are very straightforward and not too difficult. Was recommended her class by a friend, and did not regret!
She deserves a way higher rating! She is caring about her students and not to mention SO funny and keeps the lectures light-hearted and fun. You can ask her about what is going to be on the midterm and she will tell you. She does achieve quizzes that require the textbook but other than that the tests are ONLY on lectures. Highly HIGHLY recommend!!
I honestly really enjoyed Dr. Scull's class to the point where I changed my major to psychology. Taking detailed notes in class really helped me get an A+, and if you ever miss a class, she posts prerecorded videos, so you won't fall behind. She takes the time to answer any questions you have and is very caring of her students.
Erin was the BEST! I took her 104 class as an elective and loved it. She is a super entertaining lecturer and clearly explains the material with lots of fun examples. Her exams are not hard as long as you put some effort in. I will take one of her classes again.
erin is amazing! this was genuinely the best class I have taken in university. take her class if you can!!!
she was an amazing prof! her lectures were very engaging and easy to follow. she gave many diffrent examples and exsplained things in differnt ways. she is kind and easy to ask questions too.
Truly a GREAT prof! Her lectures were fun and she seemed to really enjoy what she taught which made it easier to recall later. Midterms and final were fair and all based on lectures so I would highly suggest going to class bc she even gives hints during! Textbook was only used for online end-of-chapter quizzes that were also easy! LOVE her!!
She tries to spice up lectures & make the material interesting, providing personal examples. Tests are ALL based on lectures (no trick Qs!), & the textbook was only used for online quizzes (worth 5% and easy). She was very flexible and understanding, & had a strong personality. Some people dislike this but for me it helped make psychology more fun!
She is amazing, such an engaging lecturer. She wants you to succeed.
Meh. Could've been worse, could've been better. Give up all notions of getting 100 in this class— there will always be questions that are literally RNG. Lectures are ok, but honestly it's really just her reading the slides back to you.
I LOVE ERIN !!!! She was SO funny and such a good teacher. Her analogies used in class made the concepts so much easier to understand, and her tests were never too difficult. She was such a memorable prof. Easy A.
Good prof. Tests are easy if you attend the lectures.
Overall decent prof with a strong personality. Tests can be a bit unpredictable, but at least for the spring term the assignments and quizzes were grade boosters. No need for textbook, which is a BIG plus. Always make sure to write down what she says, and not just the notes, as the explanations often ended up on exams.
Awesome prof, honestly might be the best prof for psych 104. She's very clear on what you will be tested on. There is a lot of material but she teaches it all in a way that it's never confusing, and if you are confused she'll give you examples or explain it differently to help you understand the concepts.
Best 104 prof there is. Lectures were clear and interesting. Only said useful information, easy class to follow because she broke everything that you needed to know down. Made big ideas simple and was engaging, she read the room with the class, she would make sure we understood before she moved on. MIDTERMS EASY IF YOU STUDY. Take her if you can!!
I'm not trying to be mean, am just offering criticism. Our class did poor on questions she herself dubbed “terrible,” but she refused to take the marks off, but said she wouldn't make future classes answer similar Qs…What? She says she's not mean like other profs. I'd prefer a mean, but fair professor. She expects us to read her mind for unclear qs
i wore a seatbelt every time i had her class. her exams were easy, and the textbook was useful. I just hate using achieve its lame
She makes millennial jokes all throughout class but honestly she is a very good teacher. She cares about her students and answers all the questions you might have. She has very good class examples. She cuts out a lot of things she finds boring(wont be on the midterms or the final). i enjoyed this class.
She taught in a well manner that makes learning easy and fun. Helped explain the concepts in a simple yet detailed way with examples that would aid in remembering the material.
She posts all of her lecture videos so attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but I would recommend attending as she tells the class exactly what would be on the test. She uses great examples and makes it easy to remember. She is funny, relatable sweet. If ur planning on taking this as an elective class like I did, get ready for a lot of studying.
I started this class thinking she would be a fun prof but the more I go to her class the more it sounds like she has no idea what she is teaching. Additionally, her midterm questions were horribly worded (she admitted this and said her colleagues also thought so) and half of the class interpreted it wrong but she refuses to do anything about it.
Tests on the most inane topics in the slides. Does not really seem to know what she is teaching, kept on emphasizing that she specializes in bird brains. Very poor outline and requirements for written assignment. Midterm questions worded weird, won't fix them.
Makes us do achieve quizzes but kept on messing up the due date and the answer key. She also says she's a cool/fun prof but she is no help when you ask questions in class. She also made a few really bad questions on the midterm, she even said so herself, but when half the class got it wrong she won't take any marks off for it.
Her exams are difficult because you spend 20 mins trying to read the improperly worded sentence. They make me feel I have Wernicke's. Why the university would hire a lecturer who can't communicate for an upper level class is beyond me. No accountability, very defensive, un-selfaware. Thinks highly of herself… dangerous combination for a teacher
Slides are an exact copy of the textbook. Doesn't seem to understand what she is teaching. Defensive when you call her out (she is often wrong), thinks she is some sort of genius. Odd exam questions, won't fix them, instead told us to draw her a cute picture for 0.5 marks if we didn't know the answer to a short answer exam question.
Purely reads off of her slides and cannot answer questions that are not clarification ones (sometimes not even that). She cannot pronounce half of the terms even if her life depended on it. Chalks it up to being quirky and cool and only doing research on bird brains. Don't know why she is teaching us human brains if she knows nothing about them.
She had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. Created slides directly from the textbook and only read directly off her slides in lecture and could never answer student questions. Also have to pay $100 for Achieve to do quizzes that rarely even align with the content in class and she kept messing up the due dates.
Erin seems to fundamentally misunderstand a lot of topics in this course. She frequently give incorrect/ outdated information, mispronounces simple words, and mixes up important terms. At first she seemed nice, but as the course went on it became clear that the course content was well outside of her scope of knowledge.
I thought she was an excellent Prof. I believe that some of these ratings are way too harsh. People are complaining that her slides were right out of the textbook, but I think that's better because then you don't have to actually read the textbook yourself, which I like. Her exams are very fair, and she only tests what's on the lecture material.
Dr. Scully genuinely wants her students to succeed. She gives lots of hints during lectures and even has a review class where she'll answer q's about which concepts are important. If you go to class, take detailed notes and study you'll like her as a prof. Also, no textbook! Took so much pressure off to have no readings and made me enjoy learning.
Either you really like her or you really don't. If you are taking this class for fun you may like her. If you need this class take another prof. She seems sweet and want's her students to succeed but she does not truly understand the content she is teaching. Has achieve quizzes but they do not align with class material.
If you want an easier class feel free to take this course with her. Memorize the slides and you are good. If you need to understand the topic, take another prof. She doesn't know what she is teaching. Her slides are a summarization of the textbook and she reads off of them (which is fine) but she doesn't understand it (which is a problem).
If you study the slides progressively and ask questions when confused you will do well in this course. It's not challenging, and tests are formatted pretty well (one tested written question was confusing). Everything's clearly outlined, the written assignment takes some time but marking is straight forward. Take it if you strive to do well.
I Loved her lectures! Her lectures are fun to attend and I highly recommend attending them as they are more useful than the slides. Her exams are fairly easy. Throughout the lectures, she would point out stuff that will be on the exams and she is really helpful in the exams as well. She is the best!
On the final I had severe test anxiety and forgot to write my name on the short answer section part of a booklet I did write my name on. I didn't have the whole short answer section marked (got 0), upon explaining I take meds for anxiety and this was a clerical error she ignored me over email until the deadline to change grades passed. Unacceptable
It's clear if you briefly browse through other ratings of Dr. Scully: she's unfit to teach courses beyond the 100 level. That is the point blank truth and I hope she understands this and takes it as an opportunity to focus in an area where she can succeed. Messy slides riddled with inaccuracy and exams which reflect this and a lack of expertise.
The worst professor I've had in my years here. Misinformation final boss. I'm 99% sure that she got vindictive/power trippy towards the end because she could tell students don't like her. To the person below missing the name on SA, talk to the department head. She can't handle one inconvenience but students have to work the entire semester.
the material isn't particularly interesting, but she made it very engaging and easy to parse through examples and jokes. the midterms and final were easy as long as you attend her lectures, which isn't difficult to do, because they were genuinely entertaining :) however, the last quarter of the course was very rushed.
A great professor to have! Her lectures were very fun to attend even if it was at 8 am in the morning. She taught extremely well, giving very niche examples that were so specific that it was hard to forget that level of detail for a certain topic.
can skip lecture and have no issues, just make sure you go to the lecture before midterms and the final cause she always says what is and isn't on the test
Great overall prof, made class fun and interesting, genuinely one of the greatest profs I have had
Dr. Scully was quite honestly the best prof I've had so far in my university career. She was accessible outside of lectures and genuinely cared about her students. She didn't teach anything that wasn't going to be tested and she always gave hints for exams during lectures. Her exams were very straightforward and never a surprise.
