The best thing I like about this teacher is his strong sense of mutual respect. Very nice person and try to make everything fair. His lecture are well contructed and easy to understand. He also make test question based on lectures, which is a good thing
Wow, what can I say except that he's one of the coolest teachers in PCC. Funny guy and his lectures are very easy to follow and clear. No complaints whatsoever, and not boring at all. Highly recommended!!!!
Very Nice teacher... His test are strait from his lectures. if u listen im pretty sure you wont have a problem passing the class. Very Easy if u listen.. and not stack off... i dink he is 1 of the easiest math teacher i ever had...good luck!
Very organized and clear. Tests are straightforward if you study your notes and do the homework. Overall, very nice and helpful.
Very clear lectures, very helpful instructor. Wants students to do well and understands that not everyone is a math whiz. Tests are appropriate and not tricky--do the homework and you'll do well. I hope to take other math courses with him.
cool guy and really know how to teach. I like his constant review of old stuffs that he went over be..
Very nice guy. Wanna get an A? Take him.
I like this teacher! He is one of the best math teachers I have even met. All you need to do is listen in the class and make sure you understand all the note. Then you will get an A! Plus, he is very nice and fair!
I don't know what these people are talking about. He is unorganized, unclear and very unhelpful. He always assumes that you are on the same page as he is on and skips steps. Notes are all over the place. If you are weak in Math do not take him, half the time you're trying to catch up.
I agree he is not very organized.
he is not organized and makes math even harder. not as easy as other people say.
cal II had some of the hardest materials you will ever see in the 3 courses of calculus. This guy will make the materials easier for you to understand by giving good examples in lectures..ask questions! if you're loststudy his notes and must must must do the problems! to be familiar with the concept
Class is very hard. Th grading is WAY too strict. You should have seen how many people dropped. At least I got away with a W.
VERY unorganized. Half the time the class didn't know what was going on. Hard tests. It was tough and I barely got a C. Not as easy as people say. Stay Away!! I got an A in precal and this prof made me hate math.
Talented, helpful, fair & understanding. No ego. Gladly attended study groups outside the class & stayed after class to answer questions--no questions were too silly, even basic algebra & precal. Showed you how to derive formulas so you wouldn't have to memorize them. What more could you ask for?
he is the most unorganized teacher. I used to love math until i took his class. maybe it was the material, but i know i studied extensively and just got a B (may be good for some people but i'm the type that usually gets an A in math) His grading is not that fair and he's definitly that easy.
Grades only on test results. No homework, no quizes. Some of my friends thought he was really easy, but some were struggling. It depends on what kind of teaching style you like. I liked him. Very easy going and straightforward!
best professor at pcc!! this dude can teach and a super cool dude also
Erland, as he likes to be called, is the easiest and the most helpful professor at PCC. He will stay after class to help anyone, and his test are fairly easy. The final is the easiest out of all the 4 tests he gives.
He has 4 tests and the final. The lowest test is replaced by the final exam grade if it is higher. He does not assign any homework or require attendants which are the reason why I like this teacher. The test is based on his lecture so don’t miss a any days.
He's pretty unoragnized. But he's pretty nice, easy going, and informal. If you are good at math and want a teacher who grade only on tests, take him. He doesn't really give homework/quizes.
Rhis guy sucks !!! he only loves to talk with asia girls, doesn't understand what he suppose to teach ... sucks!!!
he is sooo cool! he doesnt give hw and he doesnt care if u dont go to class. there's 6 tests but no quizes. he's very helpful but if ur one of those lazy people who doesnt even put an effort in the class, then u'll fail...but then again u'll problably fail with any teacher
Whosaidheiscool?(below)It must be Weydahl himself. He is the worst professor i've ever had.yeah.he doesn't give us hw.but!he doesn't know how to teach. His pronunciation is unclear, and he's teaching in difficult ways.don't take his class!!If you have already know or learn it, then take it,butdon take it if you want to learn.because ull learn nothing
This guy is sucks.Just don't take this class!!As somebody wrote,he doesn't know how to teach. He just made me so confused.soI didn't go to his class often and just studied myself.(yeah.he doesn't careabout attendence, but that doesn't mean that he is a good professorbecause he doen't have an ability toteach)Again I am telling you DON't take his class
REALLY HARD MATERIAL, but Erland made it easy to understand. He teches you to dervive, rather than memorizing, which is a good thing. In response to the 2 comments below, please enroll in an English class, preferably ESL. Erland bases his test off his lectures, so if you miss class, then you obviously won't do well on the test.
very very easy..just study his notes... he only care about the set up on the test.. if the set up is right.. most points can be earned... very very easy.. strongly recommended...
He's not a good teacher, I think he should buy a book - "Maths. teacher for dummies". He may ruin my future due to his class.
Never gave back graded homework. Didnt have a passion or concern for teaching students
Of course if you don't go to lectures, you are going to get a bad grade because most of the tests come from the lectures. HE is very helpful, always goes over the homework. He cares mostly about the set ups on tests, so make sure that that is correct. He doesn't assign that much homework at all.
Don't get me wrong, he is a nice guy. But he goes SO fast and his tests are really hard. Warning:Don't take him unless you are not taking very many other classes OR if you are very good at math. He's very hard.
great professor, I don't understand the bad comments. I took his 5A class a few summers ago and he made calculus easy to understand(this is coming from someone who hates math and who typically does bad in math classes). His tests were easy assuming you know all the hmwrk problems.
This teacher is very helpful in and after class. Will review for upcoming tests and uses questions from the previous tests for the final. You will pass his class if you do well on the tests. Homework is 5% of the class. 95% is tests. I have always had trouble with math but after getting free tutoring, I got an A.
great teacher. he is one of the best intermediate algebra teachers. he is helpful, his tests are based on the reviews u do in class.
He is a good professor and he can help you a lot. He wants you to learn things step by step, so he is a little mean on process. Test is based on notes. If you are poor at math, he would be a great help, and you can get a better grade. Not recommand for brilliant students, because you will have to "Show more work". ^_^
Awesome teacher..teaches well the math 125 book is prob the best math book ive ever had..it has many examples so dont worry about it..he reviews b4 every test and curves if every1 has bad test scores..gives hw but u dont have to do it..its only 5 percent..take him..he's really cool guy!
attendant not require, also dont need to turn in HW.
7 test 80%.final 20%,superfast teaching, lot of hw,but never due, only test is graded.no attendance needed, tests is ok,can use calculators, lowest test replace final,2nd lowest 75% of final, need strong trig/alg II background to pass, late to class sometimes, long time to return tests.answers any questions,do all hw not only eeo and test will be fine
I am surprised by the comments saying he is easy. His exams are much more difficult then any homework he assigns and any detail left out of the process of getting correct answer results in the loss of many points. Nice guy but very tuff grader.
This professor is nice and all but his exams are somewhat difficult because he takes soo much points away from little mistakes! His attendance aren't required and he gives alot of hw but they aren't collecet so it's up to you do to the hw. He teaches off the textbook sometimes. i would suggest you to take his class only if you have basic math knowl
really nice, often come to class early and you can ask him what ya don't understand.test is not hard but you need have good base.test sometimes make you think, but it's interesting. if he teach 5b . he require highly to show your work on test. if you do carefully , ya get high grade. I hope he teach 5c in the fall
he is really a good teacher even though he teaches quite fast. most of the problems in the tests are based on the notes. you don't even have to do the HW, just make sure understanding every problems from your notes. The tests and final are not easy, but you can learn a lot from him.
He is a great professor! Lets put it this way, I'm a high school student who FAILED out of Trig at my high school and got a B in his class. He does everything in his power to ensure that his students comprehend the material. Homework is optional but highly recommended! His tests are based on his notes! I recomend him highly! You WILL learn A LOT!
I had to drop his class not because he's a bad teacher, but I was juggling too many courses and club activities. My honest opinion..he's one of the most monotonous teachers. Lectures are super-dry and a minute in this class feels like hours. He doenst collect hw nor gives credit. he grades on a scale. i believe 3/5 the class dropped or failed out.
he grades mostly on your test and not your homework. he goes over everything that is gonna be on the test. so as long as you take notes and study those notes prior to a test and your fine. he works fast but helpful. pretty awesome guy especially during roll call. cool teacher to have.
I took his class this Fall. He is a good Math teacher, take his class if you already have basic Math knowledge. :)... easy to get A :)
Erland is a badass. His lectures are the most fun but he makes things simple and clear. If you have a question he is always happy to help you but during class, he may make fun of you a bit. He's the only math professor I've ever had that laughs WITH the students and has a personality. He's my favorite math teacher ever and actually is fun to talk t
He's kind of like a student in terms of personality...but that means he is not responsible at times, like he isn't there during office hours and procrastinates on grading tests. His tests are ok, but he almost never uses the textbook other than for the homework. Sometimes he lecture things that aren't in the book.
THIS GUY IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER PERIOD. he's super chill and down to waste a few minutes just chatting. He's a great teacher and tries his best to make the material understandable. His tests are directly from the notes so take good notes. He is a great guy and super great teacher! MUCH LOVE DUDE!
super cool math professor at PCC. No one can beat him in this area! the class is calculus 3! he makes it easier for students! strong recommend!
took him in the short session and it was a breeze. he will literally explain the same problem over again 4 times until someone gets it and do it with a smile on his face. not to mention he is a very generous grader. def. will take again.
He got clear explanation, and tests were simple.Although there were about 1/2 students dropped the class, i got A in his class.
this profesors is horrible and does not know how to teach he gives tons of homework for which u get no credit and test are super hard no partial credit do not take him
he is the worst math teacher and does not care for his students no partial credit and test are dificult no partial credit most of the class droped
do not waste ur time this teacher does not know how to teach really hard test
I'm not sure what people are complaining about. This professor explains well, and grades fairly. Tests are based on class notes (so attendance is a good idea), and yes he assigns hw, but that's for one's own good; hw isn't graded or necessary to do. Overall, great teacher, great sense of humor. I recommend him to all!
He's an excellent professor. His explanations are clear and concise. His tests are similar to the examples he works during his lectures. He always responds to e-mails when you need help--even on weekends. He's friendly and always there to help. The people who don't succeed are those who aren't putting in the necessary hours outside of class. Duh.
Mr. Weydahl is such a nice guy, his class is relative harder and challenging than other professors,if u arent willing to study math, dont take him, he likes hard and crazy math questions, which i think is kool!study his notes rather than hw is helpful on ur tests, and he also curves a lot,so that most students will pass,if u r lazy,i dont recommend
i found the previous user is just trying to blackmail this professor,if he didnt do well in the math 8,how can he keep taking this professor up to math5,and it seems that he wrote all 3 comments at the same time. prof. Wedal is pretty good, his class is a little hard, but he is willing to help u til u get it,what u want 4 more, not study to get an A?
His lecture is pretty good, sometimes a little bit fast. But he's willing to help student and try his best to make questions easy to understand. Take care student, give out homework but never check it. Easy going professor. Like him so much.
Arlend is this best math professor you will ever take he teaches very very well!!! I highly recommend taking him. He actually cares about the students interests and questions!
Study his notes rather than hw questions are definitely helpful, his notes are hard,so do the questions on the test.however he pretty curves all the exams as well as final, so your grade wont be bad.
Awesome person. Tests are all based on his notes. No homework but strongly suggested to get the practice. He reviews before exams. Helpful and patience. I got an A.
Excellent professor all around. I highly recommend taking his class.
There is class to get As, and there is class to get easy As
Professor Wehydl is the best math professor I've ever had, period. He has a very ez-going personality. Every time he comes in to class, students would just casually talk to him and he would casually talk back as if he was also a student. Anyway, his lectures are ez to understand. He gives out hw, but they r optional. Tests r very straightforward.
Awesome teacher, best math teacher I have ever had. And very understanding too!
he looks like elmer fudd ahaha. he is an awesome professor! i got my first C but i deserved it cause i didnt really study til the day before the test. his notes ARE FREAKING AMAZING. he writes so nice for a professor and i tell you a lot of them dont. hes very easy going. a lot of the test questions were based off of notes. homework wasnt mandatory
This guy is great, I hope he has a wonderful life and I i thank him for making such a terrible subject tollerable. He's a wonderful human being.
This Prof is very clear during lecture, however he skips a lot of steps. You better be fast at catching on! One thing that really bothered me about him was that he does not use the book and does not teach the way the book sets its demonstrations. He is very ezy going but lazy about really wanting to answer questions after class.
really nice guy, very predictable class no surprises which is great, easy grader... easy class if you show up, pay attention and do the homework, and funny... i laughed a lot in that class. and if you have a thing for skinny, bald, guatemalans you will find him sexy too
I loved this professor. He's great with students. Relaxed class. Lectures are straight forward - goes step by step. Answers all questions. Minimal hwk (online), which is added to the test. Sorta hard grader, but curves a lot. Tests are 99.9% from notes. Attend to learn and you'll pass. He makes it an easy class, I just suck at math.
In the beginning I thought he was very unorganized, but later on, it's actually pretty interesting for me and i HATE math. he didn't use the textbook, but hw is online. Notes are written on board. He'll help if you ask. Tests can be a bit okay, because its only like 10-15 questions, but if you study your notes and hw, it'll be easy. overall, like!
Awesome math teacher. Very funny and interesting. He teaches well and grades on a curve. Important to go for lectures as he does not use to textbook. you should take notes and use them to study for the tests. He has an awesome personality and you'll love learning from him.
HE IS ONE COOL PROFESSOR. Dont need the book, can get away with library usage. Answers questions until we understood. Grades on generous curve. Gives a review of whats going to be on each test. Highly Recommended!!! He is smart enough to create his own math properties!!!
I took him a long time ago and I was recommending to friend but saw his name is miss-spelled. The correct name is Erlend Weydahl .
I saw some more reviews with the name Wehydl, Arlen . Same teacher he told us to pronounce his name something weird.
He is a very good teacher because he is willing to answer and explain questions. Grade is based on 5 tests only (including the final). His notes are the BEST!
Prof Weydahl is not the best choice if you're weak in math. He skips steps frequently and often uses methods different from the book. His methods can make problems easier, but most times it just confuses the class. He is a hard grader and since the majority of the class frequently scores below 75% on tests, he does indeed give out a generous curve.
Amazing math professor. Does go a bit too fast so you need to keep up and don't miss any day of lecture or you'll be lost. Hard grader but curves everything including final! Was failing the class but got 100% on final which brought my D to a B in class. Take him, pay attention, take notes (tests are on notes) we don't use book at all. Amazing!
He is a great professor. You have no pop quizzes & don't need to use textbook in his class. If you show up every single day, pay attention, and do hw, it's easy to pass his class.A test score is compose of your written work score+ your hw you've done online. He's willing to help you if you got stuck. I recommend this teacher for everyone.
Weydahl is one of the best professors i have ever had he was super funny, helpful, kind and caring. I would highly recommend his class. Awesome!
I am absolutely TERRIBLE at math, and even I got a C in this class. If you don't test well, do all the hw, pretty sure that's how I passed. He's super sweet & helpful, really cares about the students. If the class still uses mathXL online, DONT BUY THE BOOK. The online code is pricey enough, and it comes with an online book.
One of my favorite teachers to take. He bases all his test according to his notes so you don't even need to buy one unless you need extra hw problems to work on. Hw is not ever due is suggested hw so is up to you to study. His test are not that hard as long as you study your notes. Over all he's a great person and an amazing teacher.
Honestly, he is a very nice man. And adorable at that! BUT, he seems to be in his own little world when teaching. His homework is online and you only have to do 1 problem to take the test. His tests are most of the grade(homework is 10% of the test grade). YOU MUST DO THE MATH HIS WAY OR IT IS MARKED WRONG. That was very irritating.
i love this teacher so much he didnt gave homework and he alwys review everythin b4 d test. jst stdy from the review and u'll pass the test! clear lectures and evrtin
Very good professor. Prbly the best math professor Ive ever had. Lectures are very clear. Homework is done through my math lab. His tests are basic, roughly 10-15 questions. HW counts as 10% of your test. So HW does help! Reviews before test. If you do hw, and study for tests you'll pass no problem. Really great person, funny and helpful!
with all my respect to him, i DO NOT recommend him. even though he is a nice guy, his exams are hard and some materials are unclear!! many people ended up dropping to save their gpa
this guy should not be teaching linear algebra. im sure hes a good professor for other math courses but his linear algebra class is pure crap. i feel like i am getting cheated out of my education by taking this guy for lin alg. he lectures for a lot, but never solves a problem in class, doesnt assign homework, tests are nothing like book problems.
Got an A in this class and whoever said that his tests are hard probably didn't even glance a the notes. YOU LITERALLY WILL NEVER HAVE TO USE A TEXTBOOK. He is very nice and is there to help, though at times he stumbles upon himself during lectures he quickly manages to fix any errors he makes. It's pretty hard not to get a B, just study notes!
funny class.. all of his test are based on the reviews he makes . there is no homework . . he gives problems at the END of his chapter review and usually next time u meet is the exam. There is no way in hell i can retain all of it. without practicing everyday so this class u have self study which means u have to be very motivated to pass with a B.
Great professor. Tests are only based on notes. Don't even need to buy the book. Grade is based on your tests only. But those tests are not hard and very straight forward. Lectures are clear.
Professor Weydahl is the worst professor I've had at PCC. He has no idea what he is teaching, does not come to class prepared and expects you to do the math his way. His class is based on 7 unit tests and the final along with a whole lot of online mathlab work. He said he would drop our two lowest tests, but he did not. He is unprofessional ,
Decent Professor, if you listen to his lectures, ask questions when you don't understand and do most of the homework (MathLab), it is impossible not to get a B.
Does not give extra credit. Does not allowed you to use a calculator for math 125. : he expects you to know some simple math. you will have to practice and study your math. He looks strict too. Im sad that we can't use calculator.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK FOR HIS CLASS. You will not need it since he using something else. All his tests are based on the notes and all you have to do is study all the examples in the notes. No homework. His class is easy, but you don't learn anything. 4 tests and final. For final just study the past tests and you'll do good on the final.
Took math 125 during summer 2016 and it was a breeze with this professor. Does not let you use a calculator during test because it's basic math and he doesn't want you to become dependent on it. His test are based on notes and gives you a study guide before the test. He expects you to follow his steps to solve. I plan to take him again for 5A.
There is no homework. Your grade is based on 4 tests and a final, which is just questions from the previous 4 tests. There is no need to get the textbook since all of his tests are based on his lectures. Tests are easy as long as you study the notes. Overall, he is not a bad professor but you won't get much out of his class, just for an easy A.
Professor Weydahl shows up late to class nearly every day. He comes in unprepared, and his lectures consist of confusion. You are graded ONLY by tests, which means you MUST master everything on the notes. He does not assign homework, which means you will have no practice working out assigned problems to prepare for a test. Nice guy though
He doesn't assign homework, but in math you NEED daily assignments in order to master the material and pass the exams. He doesn't give extra credit nor he drops the lowest exam score. He skips steps and assumes that you know everything when in reality he is the instructor and should be expected to do his job of teaching! His exams are tough!
I enjoy math but his class is horrible. Your grade is only based on tests and 5% homework. So if you're not decent at tests, you won't do well. He also wants problems done his way. If you use different wording or methods he will mark you wrong, whether the answer is right or not. He gives simple examples during lecture but complicated ones on test.
You get a lot of freedom in this class. No hw collected and tests are based on notes. Your grade is based on 5 tests including final. He curves differently each time depending on how scores are. He's not hard but the math is, extremely. A lot of time to practice is needed. You need a lot of willpower and a strong work ethic. Solid prof butnotforall
There were 30 people in my class and in the end there were only 15 people left. You got to put in the time and effort to do well in this class. He sometimes goes on a tangent explaining things that you don't really need to know. I would choose a different professor if there are other spots open. If math is your weakness, good luck surviving.
Prof. W is very unique. Doesnt give homework which i believe u need in order to do well but does provide very thorough notes that are similar to test. If you pay attention and really go through notes atleast 1-2 times a day u will understand. does know how to TEACH the material the material is just really hard. 7 test curves on all including final
Best Maths Professor ever,I took his class in the 2018 Fall and I got A. Maths is not my cup of tea I also felt like dropping the class on the first day of the class but I made sure I review my notes before every class .I studied hard for every test.
Great Professor, took him for Math 5B and 5C. In our classes, there was no homework and the tests were all based on his lecture notes. The book was not required. The final exam was based on the tests during the year. The most straightforward professor I have seen.
Pro: not a SINGLE hw is assigned at all but still have to keep track of the lectures by looking at your notes regularly. Con: the class is ENTIRELY based on tests and final so you really need to put some time to study. If studying math is not your thing, then I suggest choosing someone else. Otherwise, just study hard and get a tutor if possible
There's no homework at all and the class is based on tests, which is all based on his lecture notes. Really need the effort to study hard for them otherwise, good luck surviving the class. But in order to pass, make sure to review your notes before class, take notes, get a tutor if needed as well as a study group and you should do as fine.
He doesn't assign homework at all, but you NEED to review your notes regularly in order to master the material and pass the exams, which are tough as heck. He doesn't give extra credit nor drops the lowest exam score. He skips steps and assumes you know everything when in reality he's the instructor and should be expected to do his job to help out!
I found professor Weydahl to be... fine. Is he a /bad/ choice? Not really. But do better choices exist? Yeah.
No homework. He's SUPER picky about test turn-ins, you have to follow his instructions preciselyno exceptions. I got hella points docked off because of small things on the tests. He replies to emails sometimes... Notes are hard to navigate around, but the tests are easy. I never attended Zoom class once.
Mr. Weydahl doesnt offer homework at all. You do not need to attend zoom meetings because they are recorded, but he high recommends you too so you can ask questions. Grade is based off on test scores & there are 7. You can look at his online notes to help you w/ the test. Not a difficult class at all.
No homework, all tests are open-note. He even gave us 24-hour grace periods for the tests. I did not show up to class once and just used the notes for the test. Test questions don't stray far from notes either. Pretty freaking hard to reach via email or Canvas inbox! If you have questions ask during the meetings ig
Prof Weydahl is a very nice professor. He doesn't give out homework at all, but there is 7 test to take. These 7 tests are open notes, which make this class easier. When you doing the test, he asks you to do the exactly same steps as he did in the lectures, but you can follow the steps on the notes it will help you a lot.
Grade is based on 7 Tests, hw not graded. You have 24 hours to do the test, open note. As someone who is taking pre-calc/trig for the first time, very hard to understand from his lectures. His lectures are going over what he has written down already in his OneNote. Overall cool dude though.
Bad! Plain and simple. No book. Only his downloaded notes to go by. He lectures too fast and could care less if you get it or not. His reviews for tests are just quick glances. Don't waste your time or money.
Awful. The course was only based on his personal notes which were really confusing. He did not care if people were not understanding the material provided. More than half of the class ended up dropping the class. He has no consideration for his students. Wondering why he even teach . Worst professor ever. Dont waste your time.
Dun take him! Your GPA is determined on 7 tests and final. It is really bad. No extra credit. More than half of students drop with "W" . Going too fast and need to take exams twice a week and the result is directly affected your GPA. No homework, no assignment, no extra credit. Just only a lot of tests.
Prof W made the class to challenging. Beginning of the course was okay to begin with until near the end of semester which he made his tests a lot more challenging. He graded me unfairly for the steps I did on my problems and most of all he wanted it his way. Do not take the course. He went super fast close to the end of the semester.
prof weydahl explains algebra very clearly. this my 3rd time taking math3, first 2 times i could not understand because the other profesors did not explain well. now i feel i really understand math thanks to prof weydahl. the bad reviews don't make sense to me since i took him recently, they probably didnt study and blame it on the prof.
I don't recommend you take his class. This professor just grades few things and there are many tests during the semester. However, no homework. Your grade is all depend on your tests, and the tests are confusing. His own notes lecture is not working well. It is confusing too.
I strongly would avoid this class. He was late to class every day and on the day of the final he did not show and there was a sub. Your grade is based on 7 tests, he does not give partial credit. He lectures by reading off his computer and talking fast. By the end of the semester, the class of originally 28 ish students had like 7 students left.
This professor taught calculus 5A very easy to understand. I failed 5B with another professor. I will take 5B with Weydahl and hope to pass because he explains good the math.
I don't understand why this guy has such great reviews. His lectures only consist of him opening up some barely legible notes he's taken on the calculus textbook, then highlighting what he's already written. His notes are also so abbreviated that they're hard to understand outside of class. No homework, so it's hard to practice for the test.
His tests are easy if you go over the reviews he made. The final doesn't get a review tho, so you will have to look back on your former tests to review for the final. 7 tests given, and final grade has to be within 20 points of the final test score. You can cram for all the tests and might pass them, but pls give yourself time to cram the final.
Great professor. Course grade is based on 7 tests. As long as you study the notes done in class you will have a B or A. He does not use a book, but one note drive where all the material is on. No homework just study the notes at a good pace. Tests are similar to problems gone over in class. Very opened to helping all students. Super chill.
Too much to say, not enough space! He'd honestly give everyone an A if he could, if you learned material. Class is ~75/25 tests/final. Examples on notes directly on test. Test ~every other week. Studied ~8hours/test. I re-solved each example, memorized formulas, read through study guide. It's a hard class, not hard compared to other 5B, JUST STUDY!
The Professor is passionate about teaching math and is a treasure to the institution. Many students pass with good grades but many do not. It all depends if you put in the hours. The course is not easy or hard. You just have to study following the professor recommendations. Stick to the professor's suggestions and you should pass.
Basically a self study class, there are no homework assignments to motivate you to study. Exams are also based more on the lectures, less on the books. Personally didn't have a problem deciphering the lecture on one note, but I understand it can be different for others. If you cannot trust yourself to study, then this guy is probably not for you.
Amazing professor! Super passionate about teaching and really knows his stuff. No homework but you'd better do the practice problems if you want to pass. 7 tests and one final (75/25%) with very forgiving curves. If you're nervous about calculus or just math in general definitely take this professor because he's always willing to help!
I love this guy! he's the reason that I come to class, usually, I self-study but his lectures always keep me intrigued! The tests are based on his notes and the examples given from the notes, 10/10 dude.
Amazing professor! Really loved how structured he is with schedule. His lessons are notes-based. No need textbook. He is always caring to help you regardless what situation is. Grade is mostly based on 7 tests, but he is my favorite. I would take him again. His notes are all you need to do well.
Straightforward class but the professor is terrible. Grade is based on only 7 tests and no extra credit so if you screw up it's over. Lectures consist of him just highlighting old notes and not "teaching" at all. You can not show up to class everyday and self-study and do better than just watching him lecture. Take someone else.
No homework, just study for the tests / Attendance isn't mandatory, but I recommend attending the review session before a test / His tests are completely based on the notes and review, most of the time uses the same problems from notes / Only downside is that your course grade is test-heavy, meaning no EC opportunities, so study well for the tests!
Amazing professor! While your grade is based on seven tests and one final, his notes are straight forward and easy to understand. If you study his notes well, you will do just fine on the tests. It's definitely a lot easier than other 5B classes, but pls study by re-doing each example and memorizing the formulas. 100% would take him again.
Professor Weydahl is an amazing professor and helped me get back into math after a 4 year hiatus. No textbook required, just an online microsoft document where he will explain the steps to a math problem. Keep in mind that there are only 7 tests and a final so it is imperative that you look over the examples done in class.
I took math 5a with Professor Weydahl. The course was graded only on test scores.Overall, it is not an easy class and over half of the people dropped it. However, if you like math or are a dedicated student, I recommend taking this course. Just make sure to go over the professor's notes which make the material much more digestible than a textbook.
I took Calculus 5A and 5B with Professor Weydahl and received a B in both semesters. Though his class is test heavy, it's not impossible to do well (or get an A). His instructions are clear and simple. As long as you study, you will do well. Erlend is also extremely helpful as he is always in his office hours willing to help!
His class is very "to the point". He doesn't require homework and it isn't necessary either because his lectures and notes provide everything you need for the class. Exam are efficient and simply assess your knowledge and ability of 5B with no extras. Grade curves were lenient too.
I think Erlend might be either loved or hated. I personally was so scared before classe since I haven't done any school in the previous 4 years but he made math easy to understand and his notes heleped me for each test. He is also very clear about what he puts in the tests and helps A LOT. I really eccomend to take a class with him.
Prof. Erlend really cares about his student. Just go to his office hour and ask for help! You will get a good grade in his class if you put in some time.
In a rush to get through his notes. Treats class as unimportant. Lecture is highlighting old notes written in shorthand. Uses the phrase "not highschool anymore" to justify bad teaching. No homework = no practicing. Doesn't answer questions. Always late. Doesn't follow syllabus schedule. Grading is inconsistent. You teach yourself in this class.
Weydahl is a great teacher for those who learn quickly and prefer to be graded on tests rather than homework. 7 tests worth 75% of grade, + final exam worth 25%. He goes through pre-written notes in class and provides online access. Can do examples from notes for hw. More of a review of high school.
Great and friendly professor for Math003, cannot recommend him enough. His teaching style is mostly of lectures and you'll pass as long as you do some review before tests. He is patient and gives clear explanations. Do not hesitate and take this guy!
Notes are organized and he reviews what you need to know before every test. There's no homework so the grade is dependent solely on tests. The class is relatively quick paced the first few weeks but it's mainly review from high school algebra. Be disciplined in reviewing the lectures and the tests will be simple.
Grade is entirely dependent on 7 tests throughout the semester. No mandatory hw or attendance. He has a funny attitude and great personality. Would recommend if okay with grade being dependent on tests.
This professor only looks at exams, 7 exams and a final exam make up your entire grade. Also his grading standards are very strict, he will require that the points in your vector dot product must be larger than the points for multiplication. You have to keep the paper clean or he can deduct anything that can be counted as a mistake on your part.
I have not learned a single thing from this man yet. His lectures are speed read off prewritten notes as he randomly highlights things, blowing through entire units of complex topics in 3 classes. You will be confused. His tests, albeit not complex, are 90% rote memorization and graded in a weird way, such as drawing imperfect lines or dot products
If you really want to learn something, don't take his 5c. All the exams are just formulas and memorization stuff. All the lectures are notes that have been written before. Grades are based on 7 exams. The exams often deduct an irrelevant point. But if you're big on memorization, then take him. But the exams must follow his format.
You will never learn anything from his lectures. all of them are speed-read off prewritten notes. some students only show up for review days so they are less confused. his tests are only memorization but you get docked off for dumb stuff a lot and for a lot of points. 7 tests only, and dumb final policies. doesn't use canvas at all.
If you want a good understanding of calc 3 I would avoid this class. The entire grade is based on 7 tests which you must memorize ALL of his notes to do well on. The class isn't hard but you will have to memorize notes that he just read from and highlights during class. I doubt I could solve any calc 3 problem even though I got an A in the class.
Erlend is a genuinely nice person, If you have a great memory, take his class and pay attention to his lectures (where he just highlights notes on One Note too fast to take notes). Do not take if you struggle to memorize and are better at physics-style derivation and application like me.
Erlend is an excellent professor, attendance is not mandatory...you could just come to test days unless you need lecture, or no homework...his tests are based on his power point so as long as you study his notes and understand everything, you'll pass with an A.
There are three chimpanzees that he just lets ape around the class, he is too scared to discipline them. He doesn't use textbooks and you just memorize your way through the class. Easy but a waste of time.
Erlend's MATH003 class is straightforward - tests are the main focus, but unstuck study and review of his organized notes make it manageable. Engaging lectures and clear explanations keep the content accessible.
Very straightforward class, grading, etc. Just come to class because he gets kinda sad if you don't and it serves as a great review. Review outside of class though, because he tends to go through notes quickly. He is not tech-savvy, so he might not respond to emails. And I find him a bit boring but some may not.
I wanted to take an actual calculus 3 class before I left this review just so I was sure that he was this bad and it wasn't also me. You can't takes notes because he speeds through them at mach 20. Worst teacher I have ever had, take another calc3 teacher somewhere else to actually learn something.
One of the most awful teachers I've had. He goes through his lectures extremely quickly. So if you're the type to take your time learning the material, this class isn't for you. He also calls out people for not keeping up with him--so if you're stuck on a previous problem that he went through, be prepared to be called out to the whole class.
Review left by salte professors, hes really easy. take him if u want ez A
Bro needs to get fired. He's randomly absent, doesn't show up to office hours, no hw, and doesn't use textbooks. Grade is all tests memorized from notes. You literally won't learn anything from this class. Perfect if you're trying to go to med school. Terrible if you're trying to be anything useful.
The class is made up of 6 tests + final no hw, based entirely on his poorly written notes. The notes provided make no sense and are needlessly vague because all he expects you to do with them is memorize exactly what's written. He caught at least 5 cheaters this year and wonders why. Take him for an easy A and if you don't want to learn.
Easy A (memorize everything). If you sign up for his class, do me a favor and write a bad eval. Genuinely have never seen a lazier professor. The reviews are true, he doesn't teach nor cares to teach.
This teacher is BAD! He mumbles & talks too fast, making it hard to understand. He is inconsistent & clumsy when teaching. His class notes are unclear, disorganized, don't show all the steps, & are incomplete. He is careless & fickle-minded. He is inconsiderate towards students' feedback, needs & suggestions. Strongly advise DO NOT TAKE his class.
Never choose him. He will call out names, but the attendance is not included in the grade at all. A semester consists of 6 tests and a final exam. There are no assignments. The notes were all handwritten, and so were the questions for the test. The penalty was very severe. One had to follow the steps given by him when answering.
It's not worth the risk to take this class. While he does provide you reviews before the test, his reviews are extremely lengthy and about only small chunk of things in the review will end up on your test. Overall, your final grade will be based on how well you performed on those test so if you failed after the third test don't even try to stay.
If you review his notes for the exams and practise you're gonna be fine. He always tells exactly what he'll ask. Even the problems are the same just with different numbers.
He's a great professor, explains clearly and no homework. Pace is fast, so ask if unsure. Tests match class material with some terms/formulas to memorize (has study guide). Review notes, redo examples and practice a bit you get an A. Attendance isn't required but helps with rounding; lowest test can be replaced by final (‑25%).
i would only recommend his classes if you want an easy A and don't want to learn a lot of the material. its mostly memorization of the formulas on the study guides. there are no make up tests but he'll drop the lowest test and replace with -20% of your grade on the final. your grade depends on the 6 tests and final, theres no hw or attendance grade
Overall great professor. But you have to be truly interested in math, and do self study.
He does not assign any homework, however his entire grade is based on a select few exams and the final. As long as your study for the exams, you will be fine, but if you do not, then don't expect to receive an easy A (or maybe even pass the class). Bottom line, he is a good professor that is always accessible for questions after class ends.
If you want an easy A, this professor is for you. His tests are exactly like his notes so a lot of it is memorization. Professor Weydahl is very easy to talk to so if you have any questions, he will be happy to help.
Took for Honors credit and to fulfill G.E. requirements. Initially was worried I would do poorly and would not enjoy the class, but I ended up really loving the class and doing well. Prof. knows his stuff and the notes he gives to study are EXTREMELY clear and helpful. The class isn't very hard if you pay attention and study the notes.
It doesn't matter if you want just the credit or to learn: take Calc II with him If you just want to pass the class, you can get an easy A (0 hw, 7 tests) because he tells you clearly what the test will look like. Tests are exactly like the reviews. If you want to learn, he always goes above and beyond in lecture and with questions after class
He is a kind professor and does not put much pressure on students. However, his lecture can sometimes feel disorganized which means students have to spend extra time to learn the material on their own. He does not assign homework and the exams are relatively easy, so it can be hard to learn a lot if students take his class.
