Professor Barone is a brillant man. He is a wonderful professor. Professor Barone explains all of his lectures with intense clarity. He takes out time to explain to anyone who needs help. I wish that every professor in the world could be like him. His test are fair. Simply the best professor!!!
Professor Barone, is a very good professor, very knowledgeable in his field. The class was very relaxed, and he was respectful of students opinions. He does really detailed reviews for his exams. I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
Prof.Barone is a great teacher, he respects students comments, very honest, if he is not clear of any tax law he is not afraid to say i do not know , no one can know all the tax law, but he make sure he research and get back to you. good explanation, fair tests, you cannot laid back and expect a good grade he makes you work, good man, highly recomme
Great Prof. Clear, teaches basics, good explanations, very knowledgable and helpful. Test are on what he teaches - no surprises. Teaches adults in a respectful manner AND gets it back from the students. He should teach teachers how to command respect. No wasted time in this class - you will definitely get your money's worth!
he favors certain students and makes others feel like idiots! i do not recommend him at all! if you want to feel belittled, then go right on ahead and register for this class. his notes are horrible! you might as well just read the book cuz those will be your only notes. the stupid project that he gave out didnt do crap to boost my grade! wha
Great Professor but Queens College needs to wake up and smell taxation realities. Why do accounting students have to take 3 business law classes and only one taxation class? Why not 2 of each class? This professor is good but trying to squiz every element of this very confusing course in one semester leaves many students lost in taxation jungle.

He is one of the best acct professors that i have had in queens college. His tests are mad easy. He is also boring. He talks alot about the material and if u want to take the sunday class than dont expect him to let u go out early. he makes u stay four hours. Easy A IF u study and pay attention. Highly recommended..
This guy is a drab he complains too much hes not that hard but he seems very unsure of himself as a professor. good guy but i wouldnt take him. the other posts are right. he does read to you from the text
Amazing teacher; probably one of the best in Queens College. He gives equal attention to everyone. He cares about anything you have to say; questions, comments, concerns. His tests and assignments are fair and only consider what he has taught. Pay attention and you'll do great!
very nice professor, very helpful, he wants student to do well, taxation is not a hard class but u have to study in order to do well, any time u need help just go to his office he will help u, i like his class, i think he is a good professor. take him!! u just have to read the text book and listen to what he covers in class and u will be fine.
this guy is descent. he spends a little too much time reading these posts though, ithought these werefor students.class is pretty easythe good thing about him is you do not need to attend the class to pass
Awesome professor! open book exmas .. but you really need to go to class and pay attention to do well on them. Time flies in his class... take him, you wont be sorry!
NOT GOOD, REALLY REALLY BAD
This Professor is really good. It's just that the material is too much and it becomes overwhelming a lot of times. This class is long and he never ends the class early. Don't expect free ride, be ready to work hard. Don't expect to understand or remember most things. Then again, even Albert Einstein didn't understand taxation.
NOT AN EASY CLASS. HIS EXAMS ARE OPEN BOOK BUT DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU. YOU WON'T HAVE TIME TO LOOK THROUGH THE BOOK DURING EXAMS. THIS CLASS IS LONG AND HE DOESN'T GIVE ANY BREAKS DURING LECTURE. I THINK HE HAS FAVORITES STUDENTS. I WONDER IF THIS HAS ANY EFFECT ON HIS GRADING. HIS EXAMS ARE HARD. IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
very nice professor, very helpful, any time u have a question just go to his office and he will answer it for u with no problem ,he always willing to help, just go to class everyday, take good notes, whatever he covers is what u will find on the test, no surprises plus he will review before the test to help the students, he cares about student, he
very nice class, very good professor, he is a fair grader, and very helpful, take him u will like his class.
Fair grader, but not at all clear in covering the material although he does offer to help. Overall, would not take again.
excellent professor. He makes all the material so crystal clear and if anybody doesnt understand something he will go over it again and again. very very helpful
He is totally an amazing professor, care about his students, and always very patient to help us.I got to like accounting because of him. Moreover,he gave me plenty of helpful advice for my career. For some reasons,I am planing to transfer to another university. If I am accepted,it's my loss I can't take his class anymore.
The class is hard for people who never had any tax experiences before. So don't expect or beg a good grade if you knew you didn't put in the effort. In the future, I expect the professor to discuss more real life tax situations rather than use the same examples in the book. That way the course will be more interesting and people won't fall asleep!
Really great professor, extremely nice and willing to help you out. Tests are not difficult and fair, drops lowest grade, and attendance is not mandatory.
Very nice guy. Gives a lot of curves but the course material on federal taxes is STILL very difficult and requires a LOT of practice. Accounting majors should take this class only when they are about to graduate so you can put the time and effort into this class without worrying about your other classes.
This professor is good but learning about income tax is annoying. So many little annoying things you have to know. So many rules for every little thing. Your nerves need to be calm while you take this class otherwise be ready to pull your hair out.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN THE IMPORTANT STUFF IN ACCOUNTING HE'LL TEACH YOU IN A WAY THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.
Excellent Professor. If you really want to learn about income taxes he is the right Prof. He works for the IRS and is very knowledgable of the tax rules which keep changing from year to year. Attend classes read the book and do your HW's and you can easily get an A for the course. I recomend him hightly.
He is a great professor. Go to class, take good notes, do your homework and you will get an easy A.He is very clear in his explanations and very helpful if you need him.
explains it ok, explains very good in the begiining of the semester but kind of lacks off the explaining towards the end, easy tests especially the take home project. if you do show up to class bring the textbook because he practically reads out of the textbook all his definitions and examples are from the textbook
♥♥♥ Prof. Barone is an excellent professor. He goes over every single homework in details and he is prepared for each class. One of the best 101 professor at QC. ♥♥♥
The Best Prof at Queens! EXTREMLY HELPFUL...EXAMS ARE STARIGHTFORWARD...3 EXAMS..1 EXTRA CREDIT...1 FINAL...A LOT OF HW THOUGH BUT FOR YOUR OWN GOOD...ONCE AGAIN..TAKE HIM..THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst professor I have ever had,and I am on my second BA! Actually said to class, you can send me emails, but I won't read them. Totally unwilling to help you unless you can make his office hours which are impossible if you work. He reads from text the entire class and reluctantly answers questions. Open book tests with not enough time given.
There were only three wonderful things about him and that was that he gave two exams and a final and dropped the lowest grade, he let you use textbook, study guide and your notes during the exam, and he gives extra credit. Make sure you follow his EXPLICIT directions for the year-end comp. problem which he counts towards your grade.
If you come to class you will be fine. He tries to give curve for final grade so just do your best and can get A or A- easily. If you don't go to class, quess what, tests will be really hard.
For the most part his good. Really can't complain his fair and you earn what you worked for. Uses the textbook so you need to get it and 2 exams drops the lowest grade and a final you pass the final you pass the class and a extra credit paper worth 10% I mean what else can you ask for?
For most part,he is fair & reasonable. Go to class otherwise you suffer in your final exam. His extra credit is worth 10% & helpful to boost the grade in case you don't do well in Final. His exams are open book but still you must study to do his exams which are neither hard nor easy. His experience from IRS helps lot and allow us to stay current.
Someone cheated in Fall 2009 class, that's why he punished us in Spring 2010 by making the exam HARD. He made a rule based on a student's email that u can NOT ask any question in the exam. The sooner he RETIRES,the better for us. NOT RECOMMENDED !!!
Great guy. The class is hard work, it isn't his fault. Tax is a hard subject and its also hard to teach. He relates everything to real life so you understand it. Tests are hard so be prepared. Open book but you still need to study alot. He has a huge curve. I got a 77 on the midterm, probably around the same on the final and I got a B in the class.
Great professor! He is tough but fair. He is clear on what he wants from his students throughout the semester. The material and exams are tough, so be prepared to study. If you want to actually learn and work for your grade with a Great teacher, I would highly recommend him.
I dont know whether to recommend him or not. He is probably one of the better professors for tax but still he is very tough. The exams are extremely tough especially the final which you have to fill out tax forms. He drops one of the tests and gives quizzes for minimal extra credit. No review.
There are things i liked and things i didnt like about him. Among the good things are the open book exams and the fact that he drops one of the midterms. The bad things are that he does not review and that his exams are very difficult. He does give good curves however so thats a plus.
Wonderful professor. I can't find to reason to rate any of those below 5. I mean the class is really easy, easier than the auditing. What u have to do is to build a system and remember the details attach to the system, and things will be just fine.
Intelligent, Fair, Clear, Very nice human being and a Very god teacher. I did not have to struggle understand the book, coz his lectures and examples are so clear. worth spending 4 hourswk on taxation with Prof Barone. learned a lot. Drop the lowest midterm, gives curve. He is very good professor for cost acting at QCC as well as Taxation at QC.

Tests are pretty easy if you know the material, plus he drops the lower of the 2 midterm grades. He gives a decent curve as well on them. He is a nice guy as well. He tends to read from the textbook sometimes, which gets boring, but then again, he also skips a lot of the stuff because of the limited amount of time. Quizzes can't hurt you, only help
Makes you understand the material better than the book puts it in words. Exams are tough! Makes you do a lot of problems where solving is required even though it's MC. Exams are open boom but it does not make it easier!
Well i failed his class , but ill tell you he was a great professor with a great heart. His class was tough but anyone was capable of passing, jus had to work for it , which i didnt at one point. Which he made me realize how serious it is in college. He expected a little to much out of his students but that made you not want too dissapoint him
This guy is great. He knows the tax code inside out. its hard but pop quiz and curve help. Open book and notes, but he may change to just open notes. Always in office hours and stays late. little stingy on partial credit, but hes the best. Wish I had taken for 202 in summer instead of Ruthizer. Like he says ITS OPENBOOK BUT STUDY LIKE ITS NOT
He reads right from the book. So make sure that you have the book or else you won't pass this class. Open notebook exam, 2 midterm, he drops the lowest grade, and one final. Its open notebook but study like its not because exams are very tough.
Best prof for taxation! Class was tough. Exams are open notes, but you have to STUDY! He mentions this many times and hes not kidding. You have to put in work! Textbook is a must have. He does pop quizzes to help your grade. 2 midterms, but drops lowest, and a final. Visit him during office hours to go over your exams, he'll help you improve!
Barone was a good teacher, very fair. He tries to help you if you have trouble in class. He doesn't cover everything in class which I do appreciate about it but goes in depth in which he thinks that is important. His exams are fair but very tough. You would to invest a lot of time in the class. One thing I did not appreciate he did rush sometimes
For the tax this is perfect choose for the class with this prof. he teach good in the class and make sure you take all his quiz. try to make 95 up in the first exam then 2 and final will be so easy for you. good luck
Very great professor. I wish all professor could teach like him. He teaches accounting very good. He prepares you for the test with a preview work sheet which he goes over it with you before the test. Very easy to pass and if you don't understand he goes over the topic for you to understand. He teaches accounting not only for a test but understand.
Really a great professor I failed the first time and still retook with him because it was my own fault the first time his lectures are straight to the point and really teaches you where you can understand and learn a lot. I would take him again for another course!
The materials he taught me in acct102 are still useful for acct202 , he gave me a good foundation in accounting , thank you!
Doesn't explain the material well. He is all over the place and very unorganized. Doesn't know all the financial statements especially retained earnings. Gives alot of homework. Exams are all written. NO MULTIPLE CHOICE!! Also he is very annoying.
Professor is very unclear with the material. if you don't know something he will tell you to read it in the book instead of explaining it to you. Exams are NOT multiple choice, they are all written. He is a very tough grader. Class average was a 68%. I would not recommend his ACCT 102 class!!
Professor Barone was a great teacher. I feel like i have an amazing understanding of the material he taught. His lectures were clear. He always asked if people had questions. Homework was optional, 3 multiple choice extra credit quizzes, two midterms and a final. He dropped the lowest midterm. He made the material as easy as possible.
3 tests - two midterms and 1 final. One midterm grade got dropped and the final was mandatory but no test was cumulative and he really understood that this was a summer course and there was limited time and focused class on what the exams would be on, great professor and really funny. Taught right out of the book but that helped when studying
The best summer class eve!r must take him if you consider taking acct 102 during summer Attendance - not mandatory but recommended curves - determined based on the class average exams - no m/c but he gives partial credits & he gives out review sheets before each exams. - if you study the review sheets, you will get an A.
Love this professor! I am taking him for acct 202 during the summer. I have learned so much! He explains everything so clearly and really helps out the students. 2 midterms and 1 final. He drops the lowest midterm grade. Some students complained that he goes too fast but he would go over the same problem 5 times to make sure everyone understood!
Professor Barone drops one test grade, even though he said the final would be curved he decided not to curve it after the test. I did every hw he recommended but it did not help me for the test. Pretty much you had to teach yourself everything. I would not recommend to take this professor.
i regret not taking ruthizer. His review sheets arent really helpful. 3 tests and drops the lowest.
THIS PROFESSOR IS VERY DILIGENT.
Pretty boring professor, talks really low. But easy class. Just study the hws and read the textbook you will pass. Drops the lowest test grade
This professor is one the best I've ever had. Lecture is very interesting because the professor incorporates real cases from his experience. Grading policy is very clear, extra credit is from 2-3 pop quizzes (5 true/false). All quizzes and exams are open notes. 2 mid-terms and final, professor drops one mid-term. Professor is very caring. Take this
Professor Barone is one of the best at Queens College. He explains tax rules in a very clear way and easy to understand & remember. 2 midterms (drops the lowest), final, and unannounced pop quizzes that count as EC. Even though sometimes I was late and missed quizzes I still did very well in his class. TAKE HIM!
Strongly recommend!! Prof gave 2 tests, dropped the lower grade and also had to take a final, plus weekly quizzes counted for extra credit. he was very aware of the fact that it was a summer session and didnt make the class to overwhelming. was very clear and teaches well, gave great review sessions before the test, easy A
Took this professor in the summer session for 102 and learned tremendously about accounting. Drops the lowest midterm exam (3 in total) and makes every effort to boast your in class grade by offering extra credit quizzes. Teaching style is great and keeps you motivated and willing to learn. The final is a bit tough so study hard of course!!
great professor
Professor Barone is a though grader but very fair, the test comes straight from what he talks in class and the homework, he makes you work for your grade so the class is not an easy A. He is always willing to help but you must have an specific part of the question you dont get for him to help. I have learned a lot from him, amazing professor!
3 test , grade was midterm with the highest grade (45%) and final(55%) . Online so the exams were on blackboard and all multiple choice. He gives HW but doesn't collect or grade it . The exams are based on hw questions. Live lecture, attendance doesn't count since they are recorded.
you'll get a very good sleep in his class, very boring lectures, did not learn nothing from him, had to study by myself. plz take another prof if you wanna learn.
This professor was very helpful for our Online Class in Fall 2020 semester. Most of the lecture is from the textbook but he goes through it completely in order to make sure all students understand. He encourages questions. The homework is not collected but you should do it if you want a good grade on tests.
I really enjoy this class. Professor Ernest Barone is very responsible, prepares each class carefully, and answer any question you have patiently. He also provides handouts and exam reviews to help us better understand the materials. You will get a firm foundation on tax after taking this class.
Professor Ernest Barone is amazing. I took him at QCC and now at QC, he's very detailed and you can not " not " pass his class, he give the best review and literally tells you what you will be questioned on an exam. A true gem he is.
The exams are difficult and tricky, especially the Final exam. You need to ready a lot and do the HW, the learning materials is not easy.
He is extremely good. He may be old schooled but his exams are ALL multiple choice and his class average is extremely good. They are based on the review sheets, and the practice he gives. HW isn't graded. WORK HARD.
Overall, great class. Professor Barone is easy to approach and willing to help out. One exam worth 40% and the final was non cumulative, worth 40%. Two online HW, each worth 10%. Read the textbook and do the HW, his exams are similar to the homework's. Really nice guy and great professor.
Not a difficult class. Professor is old school. He makes sure you understand the material. Lots of H.W (not graded), however exams are similar to H.W. 3 Assignments, drops the lowest. 3 exams, drops the lowest. Final is not cumulative. He gives reviews before each exam. Exams are both MC and Problem Questions.
Very good professor...cares about your understanding of the content (the class was actually ACCT 305 - cost accounting ) Gives exam reviews Pick him for your next accounting class (online class )
I took Professor Barone for three different classes and passed all of them. They are all exam based, just prepare yourself and you should be able to pass.
Professor Barone breaks down the material well. A lot to cover, three exams, a couple of hw's. Review his review sheets and his hw's and you'll do great. A lot of material to cover for this course. Approachable and willing to help out.
Such a harsh grader and doesn't care about his students at all.
