Math 2 - Pre-Calc. The BEST math teacher. Teaches through concepts. Does some Algebra review at the beginning so as not to lose any in the class. Very helpful!!! Test are med difficulty. Lots of homework. Your time is well spent here.

I have taken about 20 classes in SMC and the only class that i remmember vividly is Mr. Ramsey's class. His class was extremely fun, and interesting. Tests are not too difficult but not easy. He will make you LOVE math. If you are planning to take math2, it doesnt get any better then Mr. Ramsey!

Prof. Ramsey is an astounding professor. It’s nice to have a professor who truly cares about his students. His class is not easy but he is always ready to lend a hand. If you struggle, go to his office hours. He won't let you fail.

He appears to have military demeanour, but I can tell he cares about students. If you take good notes and do all home work, ask him questions to make everything clear, you can have good grades. His speech is clear, sometime humorous. Highly recommended.

He is a great teacher, he loves what he does. But.....he likes to play tricks on you and makes tests and quizzes harder than they could be, just to challenge you. Do not take this class thinking that you can just take notes and get a good grade. He expects you to work really hard and be devoted. So he is good, but he is also hard!!!

Math's not easy but he's helpful with it. He says the computer does the grades, BUT HE'S THE ONE GIVING THE POINTS IN TESTS.Had the same mistakes in the exam with this girl, took more points away from me. Can I say unfair?

Ramsey is by far the best math 2 teacher at smc. He is clear, organized and very helpful. Tests are not easy but if you study the lecture notes and the participation problems, you will perform well on the quizzes and tests.

IF do all the homeworks and attend to every class it shouldn't be a problem. However I don't recommend this teacher for students who have difficulties in maths, not because he is not nice, but simply because it requires a lot of work and a fast understanding. Make sure that you listen and understand all the examples developped in class!

He's a really great guy and an even better teacher. His lectures are thought out and efficient and never leaves you on the edge of your seat. You leave feeling comfortable and confident.

Great lecutre clarity. Lets you ask questions first 20 mins of class.EZ quizes.EZ exams.EZ final.But, he wears the same damn thing every day. I got a B w/o studying. Must take his class. I wish he was teaching Calculus :(

ramsey was fun... he's pretty entertaining, and really clear. you have to go to class if you want to do well cause he explains it really well. quizes and tests were pretty simple, to the point. you should hope he teaches this class again, he's a pretty awesome teacher.

Prof. Ramsey is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Don't underestimate his class- you have to do the HW and study if you want to do well, but Ramsey explains everything well and makes sure his students are prepared. The first day you might be a little skeptical, but trust me he's good. One of the tests is pretty tough, but u can do it!

His tests & quizzes are hard! He gives 40 min for quizzes which is not enough. This class is super easy for Math geeks. It isn't easy for those with Math difficulties. Prof Ramsey does a good job on clarification but he only give 30 min for HW review. His lessons go very fast, too. Easy A for Math GEEKS, but not for the average student.

He is a great teacher. His lecture is very clear. It's possible to get an A. If do your HW twice and review the notebook, you'll be fine on the quizzes and exams. I really liked his class.

His class is far from an easy A, his tests are "knock outs". The problems are much harder than problems in the book. You will enjoy math, learn a lot and laugh.

Well i hope my review helps >_<, i don't go to SMC but I went to king drew magnet high school and spent to years with this man.He tought me college level trig. & math analysis junior year and ap calculus senior year I got and A all courses and speaking for k/d hs,it's truly the luckiest hs in the u.s., to have him for 20 yrs and still going.

Prof Ramsey is the sweetest, kindest, fairest math teacher in the world! You will not regret taking him. If theres a section in the book that he didn't go over, it won't be on the test. 4 very fair and clear tests. 8 easy quizzes. checks homework and test questions are very similar. do the hw and you'll get an A

As the others have said, he is very clear in his teachings. He does not go by the book - he teaches even better than it. Quizzes, tests, and even the Final was a breeze, though I already had the course in High School. Nevertheless, you'll understand everything he teaches, guaranteed. Recommended. I should go say hi to him soon, had him summer '09

Fall '09 - Ramsey's the man. He truly cares that his students do well, not necessarily in terms of grade but in really understanding the material. He deals with BS from immature students quite well and goes way out of his way for the serious student. Based on conversation with others, I don't think there's a better choice for Math 2 at SMC.

Okay, this guy is way over-rated. His tests are extremely difficult and you have to study day and night for every test like it's your final. I tried incredibly hard but I ended up getting a W. However, he is verrrryyy helpful and explains the material very well. take him if you want to do well in calculus. take him forsure if you're good at math.

This guy is good at teaching, and it seems like he loves teaching. But, I really don't like his personality. He is a not fair professor.

He is awsome, if you have any question he will answer without any problem. the first half hour is for the questions about the homework and once a week there is a 20min quiz. if you do your homework you can easily have a B. I've got an A and it was my first semester at SMC

I had this teacher in highschool. Definitely a school favorite. He constantly has successful alumni come back to proclaim how great of a teacher he is. He means business but he is caring and concerned about each and everyone of his students. Willing to give you a chance if you work for it! Never miss any class! If you do you are screwed. This is a man with a ton of experience and no tolerance for bull! My favorite math teacher. He motivated me.

Mr. Ramsey is by far the best teacher I've ever had. He is extremely helpful and very clear. He expects a lot out of you but gives a lot of himself too. I would take him again in a second.

Ramsey is an extremely awesome teacher! He teaches very very clear. He is so responsible to all his students. I took math 2 with him, and i love him. If only he taught math 7!!!

His tests were really tricky and frustrating! I knew the material like the back of my hand and he teaches extremely well but he always ended up getting me somewhere...that ended up with me busting my ass for the A but ended up with my first B.

best teacher at smc. dont get me wrong its a hard class and effort will be needed to get an A but ramseys method of teaching simplifies it so you dont have to memorize so many formulas. GREAT TEACHER. easy grader. he's hilarious in the most subtle way and he's willing to go the extra mile (or 10) to help you. you can tell that he really wants you to succeed. i'm weak in math and am doing very well in his class. he also comes in an hour early before EVERY CLASS, and sometimes stays after, to holds review sessions. take ramsey!!

Any one who has to take math 2 should take his class because he is the only professor interested enough to teach this course. His helpfulness and clarity in explaining the subjects are awesome, but his tests could be a little bit trick, but as long as you do hard online exercises you should be set.

He IS the type of professor that SMC needs the most. What kind of professor dedicates his free time to come an EXTRA hour before class to help their students? not many. His class? it's so enthusiastic and fun because of him. Challenging? hell yeah. BUT in a great learning experience way. he is one of those you'll have so much respect.

By far the best math teacher I've ever had. He goes into so much detail for every problem. Test/quizzes were a breeze if you do the homework. He doesnt throw in trick questions either. I have no idea why the last few comments were bad. I wish I could take him for the rest of my math classes.

He is one of the best, if not the best professor at SMC. Math 2 is not an easy subject and requires a ton of effort but Ramsey comes before class and stays after to make sure he answers everybody's questions. Tests were pretty difficult but I definitely feel well prepared for calculus 1 after taking his class.

Mr. Ramsey is dedicated, passionate, hilarious. But this class is a nightmare. The amount of material covered is unbelievable. You will spend countless hours per week doing homework which guarantees nothing in terms of a grade. Assume this class is 8 units. If you cannot attend all of the extra sessions, you are at a huge disadvantage.

Prof Ramsey is so helpfull to make you ready for the next level but his exams are super chalenging and way harder than the book. He is so nice. If you are a math person take it.

Ramsey is honestly amazing! I'm not a math lover by any means, but he makes everything easy to understand and is not out to trick you. Took him in the winter which made the class very demanding (lots of homework). First test and quiz got a C, then started going to his after class sessions and got As on everything else. There's no beating around the bush here - Professor Ramsey is TOUGH and a nightmare if you're not a math person (like me). Sure you can teach yourself through the hmwk, but with the rushed, minimal-example approach of his lectures, at least according to me, successfully understanding the hmwk will be a CHALLENGE. Just took Ramsey for Winter and I don't think that you will find any other professor at SMC that cares about their students as much as him. Winter class is very demaning. Prof. Ramsey is great. He loves his job and also has great sense of humor. He is very tough but I am glad I took him and learned so much! Very challenging.

So precalculus alone is hard. You can tell professor Ramsey loves math and he tries to transfer that excitement to you . He is NOT an easy teacher, however he actually teaches. so if you want to breeze through the class dont take him if you want to actually learn, take him,but be prepared to study!

Professor Ramsey has to be the hardest professor I have ever taken, but also the most influential professor. Don't slack off, study, study, study! Go to his tutoring sessions before and after class, they help a lot. Do well on the first exams because it only gets harder. Study in groups get a room in the library, put in 3-4 hours of studying.

Pre-Calc is one of the hardest. You learn Trig really fast near the end. Not the best curriculum choice but not Ramsey's fault. He holds tutorials as long as a class as often as he can. Never seen a teach give more effort to help. Super nice, really funny. Study and read ahead especially if your not fresh out of high school and math is rusty 4 you.

Prof. Ramsey is hands down my favorite professor. VERY DEMANDING course but Ramsey made it enjoyable. He is super funny and caring, and I miss his class a lot (which never happened before!). Hope he's going to teach math 8 in summer or fall so I can take him again.

First of all don't bother crashing. If you don't know the material you might have hard time in exams but he helps you a lot. Definitely not an easy class. If you are not a math person you won't get an A. Gives extra credit work for every exam. I highly recommend you to go his sessions before class.

Easiest class on this freaking planet.

Textbook is needed. He will drop you if you miss one class and don't let him know. I got barely an A even though I had 3 perfect quizzes and 1 perfect exam. It is a hard class. There are 5 exams,8 quizzes and a final. Final is cumulative. You have to be good at math if you want to get an A. Professor is helpful. Your participation does not count

He is great, but you have to do your part. Tests are insane and do not expect to get perfect aneers.

The most amazing professor on campus. I was really really bad in math during all my school but with this teacher math become fun. You will understand all the concepts and be able to use it efficiently. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Do your homework, listen in class and all is gonna be amazing. Take this professors and you enjoy math :)

Proffesor Ramsey was the best precalculus proffesor or the best proffesor to prepare you in taking advanced mathematics. He went beyond any proffesors to make sure you succeed. I took him over the summer and now I'm in calc 2 but thanks to him I learn the essentials that enable me to succee in calculus courses. Anyhow prepare to study and do HW

WooWow wow wow, what can say about Professor Ramsey, he is an inspiration to many students that have taken his course. One of the most hardest working professors at SMC. Take Professor Ramseys class and you will be set for Calculus. Attend his workshops and dont skip his lectures. An A is doable, just have to put in the work. Truly blessed

Best prof. to take for Math 2. Hosts workshops every class day an hour before and a half hour after class. He has office hours & is available through email. The amount of time and effort he puts into his class leaves you no reason to fail. He isn't easy, but if you put in the work you will succeed and be the best prepared for future math classes.

This man is Royalty at Santa Monica College. Don't waste your time in his class if you are not willing to put in the hours to studying. Like he says "An A is DOABLE". His math problems are MIT, and Stanford caliber. Many students leave his class wanting to become mathematicians. He also has great stories which he shares to the class.

His lectures were incredible and very engaging. He is someone who has truly mastered the art of teaching math. I just finished his 6 week course, so if you're thinking of taking it be ready to work. His exams are difficult, but fair. He spent 30 minutes before and after class to teach as well. If you take him, be ready to learn and give your all.

He does give lectures before and after class for those who really want to learn. The only thing that kind of upset me was that he said that the trigonometry part was going to be easy. But, it turned out to be the hardest part of precalc. He said that about a few other things as well. So take it with a grain of salt when he says stuff like that.

Ramsey is hands down one of the best Math professors. He enforces people to ask questions and calls every question "beautiful!" Text book only used for homework and not in class, but the homework is your best friend for this class. You have to do it all to get a good grade on the test even though hw is worth so little. The only SMC math teacher I have ever taken that doesnt make me go back teach myself everything on my own

I scored the lowest grade in my life on an exam. But here is the truth, I took him for the summer six weeks course. It was an experience like which I never had in my life. He redefined what a great educator means. He will break you and remake you. He will mathematically whip you into shape. I've never worked harder or had a better teacher. Thank U!

Took precalc with this professor during the 6 week summer session, this was probably the hardest math class in my life. Had to work very hard to prepare for the exams and also did lots of homework. Professor Ramsey is the best math professor in SMC. He cares about his students and the extra sessions he hosts before class were very helpful.

Professor Ramsey's Math 2 class compacted into 6 weeks was one of the hardest things to get through in terms of coursework. Go to his pre-lecture sessions, no question is too much for Mr. Ramsey. He is clear, he is understanding, and he wants you to get through his class if you put the work in. TESTS ARE NO JOKE, so do not skip class :) good luck!

Heres the thing, if youre just taking precalc for a grade and not want to work for it, choose another prof. Ive taken precalc twice before, but with incredibly unqualified teachers. Prof. Ramsey has been the BEST caring math teacher Ive had. He provides plenty of help w/workshops before/after class, office hours, and by email. Ask questions!!!

Please please please dont take this class if you want an easy A. Ramsey will instill a solid foundation for your future math classes. He will help you with any issues youre having with understanding math. If you dont want to learn real math, dont come and tear him down because you didnt have the guts to ask him for help he actually provides!

Ramsey rekindles your interest in Math. His tests are fair and doable and tries to help as much as possible by offering different sessions at different times. He is a very clear instructor and can go above and beyond to make sure you understand the concepts. Doing the homework and working on his study guide helps you do well on his exams.

The dude is absolutely great plain and simple, if you enjoy math and really want to learn this is the guy for you. If you put in the work he will meet you half way.

Professor Ramsey teaches you the exact way to solve the questions he has on his tests. He is very helpful to his students and will help you get the grade you want. You have to attend his workshops a lot of learning happens over there as well. Also if you want free private tutoring go to his office hours, he will help you with everything math.

Ramsey is a force. It's Math folks; you have to really work for it from now on but Ramsey makes the journey so much more viable. All his quizzes and exams are aceable even if he says they will be hard. If you cannot do a question on the exam, it means you did not understand something similar in lecture. He never brings crazy hard questions. Do the exam review worksheets because it is super similar to his exams. Final is a bit challenging but it's doable. Attend his workshop

So, I absolutely hated math. I could not imagine that I would love it. After taking Prof. Ramsey's class... I grew to actually love it. He takes his time and makes sure you understand the material. Ask questions in class and he will answer you without making you feel silly. He is an overall great professor and really cares about his students.

I took him before the pandemic. His class is HW and exams. Idk if there were quizzes. He was always nice to students and was supportive when I didn't do so good. Precal is really not that hard if you study a little bit bro. What I like about Professor Ramsey tho, is that he gives tons of time for tests and quizzes. Since it's my first semester in SMC so I'm not sure about other professors, but I have been struggling to finish tests my entire life and he definitely gives enough time for us to finish the test

Professor Ramsey is by far one of my favorite math teachers I have ever had. He truly listens to people and really tries to make sure that everyone understands the lectures. He has office hours outside of class that are really helpful. My class is in person, but I don't mind going bc he is a good teacher. He follows the covid protocols well too.

Professor Ramsey is an excellent person to take for math. He is clear with and on time with his grading, he has easy scheduled homeworks, follows Covid protocols, HE GIVES HANDSOUTS AND REVIW SHEETS FOR EVERY TEST. Take advantage of this opportunity and take his class. He is accessible during and outside of class.HE IS ACCESSIBLE OUTSIDE OF CLASS.

Professor Ramsey is a great teacher who really cares about his students. I came into Math2 after a long break from school and I was nervous that I would not be able to keep up in class. Thanks to professor Ramsey's great teaching I feel I have learned a lot of material and am actually doing well in the class with an A so far.

Professor Ramsey is by far the best math teacher I have ever had! He gives great lectures and really cares about his students understanding of the content. His tests rarely deviate from what is taught in class, and he even gives an in detail review sheet before each test. Minimal extra credit, but if you put the work in you won't need it.

Truly the best math professor I've ever had. I hated math my whole life, but professor Ramsey seriously changed the way that I view the subject. The professor is an excellent lecturer and constantly motivates you to strive forward. The use of a textbook is optional since an e-textbook can be utilized for homework. During class, a physical textbook is not required. However, the homework workload is substantial as it includes practice exercises following each chapter.

Professor Ramsey always answers questions quickly and has patience with every asker. He is nice and loves mathematics, teaching students with enthusiasm. Getting good grades in his class is easy, he gives extra credit.

He has amazing lectures and goes at a steady pace. Take advantage of the sessions he has outside of class as they are extremely helpful for exams and getting extra practice. If you stay on top of the homework and take the time to review your notes, you will do great!

As someone who has struggled with math, I have had a great experience with Ramsey so far. I highly recommend you take his class. He knows how to teach! Best Math teacher I have ever had.

Caring professor, spends a lot of time outside class to make sure students succeed through office hours. Lectures are engaging. Tests are a little bit difficult, but if you study, you should be able to get an A. Make sure to do the homework as he assigns it and regularly do your work.

Professor Ramsey is a great math teacher. He breaks down concepts clearly and provides helpful review materials. While the tests can be challenging, regular attendance and studying with tools like unstuck study make this class manageable. Definitely worth taking.

Currently have him during the winter semester, and I can say he's so far the best math teacher at SMC. Mr. Ramsey is committed to making sure his students not only understand the material but master it. Your grade is firmly determined by how well you do on tests, so study do homework and ask questions. Overall, he's a wonderful teacher. He has TAs!

Just finished his winter semester and I personally found the class to be great. He guides students through topics and provides handouts and 30 min sessions before MWF class for students who have extra questions. Tests are pretty easy if you do the hw and pay good attention in class. Overall great guy, great teacher, and great class. Would recommend

Take him, he's your best option for pre cal. He's hard but defiantly worth it. Only con is he doesn't drop any of your lowest scores or accept crashing students, otherwise he'd be perfect.

His lectures are entertaining and he goes through each problem very detailed. He also offers office hours before every class, so that has helped a lot. Grade only depends on test and quizzes, but if you pay attention to his lecture it will be easy.

He is a really good guy and a great math teacher at smc, took pre cal over the summer with him explains everything really well wish he had cal 1 too!
