Wears the same outfit every class, talks like the stereotypical surfer dude. demands way too much for people who suck at math and need to pass the class so they dont have to worry about taking math ever again.

if you are in any way intelligent, do not take this class. Anyone who has a second-grade background in mathematics will find this class the bane of their existence. The perpetual whine of his speech and the stupid comments he makes is like being in middle school all over again. Always bring a water bottle and your cell phone to class.

Worst teacher I have ever had. I am usually really good in math. He didn't explain things well. I went to his office hours all the time and he made me feel stupid and he didn't help. Do not take this class

Terrible teacher. Doesn't explain himself, very rude, weird personality. Doesn't care if the whole class fails. flips out about cell phones/ anything unrelated to the class on your desk. in the end, avoid him at all costs

dr. rothman is a horrible teacher. He is very strict over everything he does, and laughs at himself while he writes on the board. he does not explain things very well, and he expects you to do everything the minute he writes it down. His tests are extremely hard, and not like he said they would be.

so i have to keep this as clean as possible and thats going to very hard but this man is the absolute WORST teacher on the face of the planet , he cares more about what you have on your desk than what your learning, doesnt care if the whole class fails he still gets paid he is the horrible and needs to be avoided or say goodbye to your gpa

Honestly the strangest man I have ever met. Wears a black turtle neck everyday and is a terrible teacher. He pays too much attention to what people in the classroom are doing than what he should be teaching. Hes very rude and has the strangest rules! Do not take this class.

Rothman is the rudest most anal complusive horrible teacher i have ever had. he never explains anything. he assigns homework that he hasnt taught yet therefore you have to teach it to yourself and then he teaches the material and gets livid when no one has done the homework. His tests are impossible. and he is completely uncomfortable to be around

Worst teacher I have ever had. He treats his students like children and makes you feel like an idiot for not understanding everything that comes out of his mouth. I studied so hard and studied exactly what i was told to, and still failed. Hes out to fail his students not help them. I got all As and an F, so its def not my work ethic or bad attitude

DO NOT take his class. Even when teaching something simple, he makes it 100x harder than necessary. Definitely too smart to teach. And don't bother going to him for the final project because he won't help at all.

When people tell you to GET OUT, listen to them. His teaching makes the material 100X harder than it ever should be. He puts questions on the test that set you up to fail. He makes you feel dumb when you ask questions, expecting us all to be as mathematically gifted as he is. If you get stuck in his class, my only advice would be to get a tutor!

The most boring professor I have ever had. He draws the blinds every class, because he knows staring at the sky is more interesting. I hate coffee, but I have to chug it every morning to stay awake in his class. He is anal about electronics, I had the eTextbook $97, but had to rent the paper version $181 because he won't allow ANY electronics.

supposed to be an entry math class but he makes it way more difficult than it is. Ive taken AP stats and learned this stuff but he makes it more complicated than it has to be. all tests are multiple choice. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. if you're an average grade student then choose someone else. he is too smart for the average mind.

THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!! Gets enjoyment out of failing his students. When you ask a question, he says it's in the notes. Well no duh, I don't understand your stupid notes that's why I asked the question.

I graduated Salve 5 yrs. ago and I am still angry about how this man conducted his class. I did not earn a single C yet earned a D in his class. He is the reason that I didn't get to wear a cord at graduation since my overall GPA was a 3.57 thanks to his class. Unapproachable, condescending, sets his students up for failure. I even had a tutor.

I don't know how this man is still a professor here. Unless you've had this material in front of you before (linear algebra) then you're up a creek. Rothman doesn't help much, and doesn't give you a fair shot at a decent grade; 3 exams and 3 extremely hard assignments. No quizzes, no practical assignments (like most maths). Avoid at all costs. Knowing his bad rating, I accepted the challenge. Now I agree with the majority. Just fully fill out the review packets before exams & you'll easily pass. Btw, his multiple choice are annoying (A-E even if T/F ?s). He's not good at explaining; he rereads stated words verbatim. I took a 0% for an exam to attend a funeral... ACE isn't permitted..

Rothman is very smartI will give him that. The only problem is that he cant teach the material and utilizes unorthodox teaching methods (you cant teach math strictly from PowerPoint). Very condescending too. Maybe if he started writing notes on the board hed be better. I can also tell he has written the only good reviews on here of himself lol.

Rothman is the worst. He assigns web assignments on days we don't have class. Even if you have a reasonable excuse for missing an assignment, he refuses to extend it, and will not even respond to your emails. He is terrible at teaching- if I didn't take a calc class in high school I'd be so lost. He is not understanding and is very condescending.

Each class includes a powerpoint lecture or reading directly off the slide and 0 board work. His class is difficult if you haven't taken calculus and he over complicates simple concepts. Go to ACE tutors because office hours don't help. He loves true/false questions and practice exams and online homework were the only saving graces of this course.

Professor Rothman's class is structured horribly. He teaches off of a word document lecture, refuses to increase the size of the screen fro students. His lectures are boring and his temper distracts him from actually teaching. Prepare to be bored in class and have no way to increase your grade.

Does not care if you are succeding or not. Extremely rough. Stands at from of room and just talks at you. Does not TEACH you.

Uses slides from the textbook. Reads it word for word. Doesn't explain concepts. Classes are not engaging. Have to teach myself the work.

I wanted to like Rothman. He is incredibly smart and hes a traditional guy. I also dont mind working for my grade. I figured the students on these reviews were salty that they got low marks, but HOLY moly I should have listened. I thrive in math but he makes it so hard for no reason. JUST WRITE ON THE BOARD. And stop being condescending.

He posts a pdf and reads through the pages, he's an awful professor and it wasn't until Dr. Thomas Flanagan got involved that he would make office hours. Terrible teacher and is the worst teacher I've has in my 4 years at salve and most professors know he's terrible and advise their students beforehand. He has his 10 years so it explains a lot.

MTH191 is a requirement for my major. Dr. Rothman only teaches MTH191 so you don't have a choice otherwise. Classes are not engaging. He reads a word document without writing much on the board. Practice exams will be the only saving graces for your grade. He is nice in his office hours but calls people out for being only seconds late to class. RUN!

Rothman is disengaging, condescending, stuck in his ways, and he over explains simple concepts - making them seem impossible. He is more focused on if students have their camera on and attendance rather than improving his teaching.

Dr. Rothman is a horrible professor and your grade will only consist of your midterm, final, and one cumulative homework grade. So, if you do bad on one of those, there goes your grade. He reads off a pdf and I barely retained anything he said and had to teach myself. I pray that a community college near you offers calc in the summer!

He does not show any sympathy for his students. We are just numbers. He didnt even know any of our names by the end of his class. Everyone in my class was always left confused and frustrated after every class and exam. On our final exam the highest grade in the class was a 70 and the lowest was 22. If that doesnt say something idk what does.

Absolutely garbage. Worst Professor I have ever had. If you can avoid him you should, if you have to take his class get a tutor cause I can promise you wont learn the material from him.

While Dr. Rothman shows clear signs of intellect outside of the course, this is quite obviously not apparent in his teaching style nor his evaluation style. It takes no great genius to read off of slides for 16 weeks, nor to grade a Scantron, and yet, he expects genius from his students with limited assessments to show them where to improve.

Rothmans lecture was the most boring class I have ever taken. He talks for the entire class time and refuses to let us leave early. Doesn't let you go to the bathroom or he'll mark you as absent.

Treats students like middle schoolers. Marks what time you leave and get back whenever you go to the bathroom. Any positive review of him on here is clearly written by him. No one talks like that. Other professors advise AGAINST taking his courses. Graded by very few things. Very condescending when you ask for clarification. Needs to retire

This professor will suck the life and soul out of you and make you genuinely regret taking his class and wake up with an overwhelming sense of dread. Bathroom breaks count as an absence, he reads off of slides the whole class, and is extremely condescending and will make sure you know exactly what he thinks of you. its soul crushing.

Awful, awful, awful. Listen to these reviews. Everything that is said is OBJECTIVELY true. He will NOT allow you to use the bathroom, he will read off a PowerPoint verbatim, and he will make you dread math. He needs to go. Apparently he's been this way for the last two decades plus, according to many profs. You've been warned.

I dropped the class because of how rude he was during a critical conversation I had with him before class one day. He thoroughly brushed off what I was saying and walked out mid-conversation. I walked out after and dropped that class. If you leave, you get marked absent. He is entirely unfair and needs to retire immediately.

What everyone else has been saying is true. The few good reviews are written by Rothman (painfully obvious). He chose the wrong profession; too condescending to be a prof. My advisor actually apologized when she found out he was the only one teaching this class. Stuck in his ways and doesn't see himself as the issue. Retirement is 25 years overdue.

DON'T EVER TAKE THIS CLASS! Drop it or not take it at all. He only teaches a MATH class in lectures. Don't leave during class, or he will mark you absent. If we told him he got a question wrong or made a mistake, he would start an investigation, and if it came to you being wrong, he'd write you up for academic misconduct and report to the dean.

Wasn't a fan. Not wired right in his head given the classroom dynamic. The class is treated like middle schoolers, material is NOT taught on a whiteboard, and you are not allowed to leave for any reason. Regret not dropping this class. If I did this bad a job in the real world, I would get fired. He doesn't live in the real world, unfortunately.

DONT TAKE! Unreal amount of hw and practice exercises. No quizzes, but the tests are ridiculous. He does give out a study guide, so do those. Never posts ANY grades, so if you don't ask him, you won't have a clue what your grade is until the end of the semester. Not a very caring prof, gave every class but this one a notecard for exams.

NEVER EVER TAKE HIM. Rothman I know you see this because you be writing those ridiculously good reviews. Change your profession or change your teaching style.
