Hi is the best teacher I've had so far. He gives you a lot of homework sometimes but it is extremely easy. You watch videos during class at times and his tests are easy if you read and study a little. He is not hard, he gives you an opportunity to do well with exttra credit work.
he is not the best teacher...ok he doesn't give h.w. but he gives me the impression that he hates his job, he doesn't make his class fun or interesting, just boring

The easiest teacher I've ever had! Boring but an easy A! All his tests are multiple choice and has an extra credit question. He grades his tests on the curve. Only assignments we've had is to write 1 page double-spaced chapter summaries, but very simple. Let's you turn in your papers at any time.
Not an exciting class. Homework consists of summaries of the chapters and all tests are multiple choice.
If you want a easy class with very heated topics, choose him. He does stand in front of the class all the time and lectures, but the routine of the class is easy, and the information (if you care) is interesting. You have to do chapter summaries (which are easy if you know how to do it right) and the test are multiple choice
HE IS A COOL TEACHER. HE IS A BIT BORING AND LECTURES AND MAKES YOU WATCH FILMS BUT THE INFORMATION IN THE CLASS IS ACTUALLY QUITE INTERESTING. HE MAKES YOU WRITE SUMMARIES ON EACH CHAPTER AND HIS TESTS ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE. IF YOU JUST READ EACH CHAPTER FOR THE TESTS YOU WILL DEFINITELY GET AN A. HE IS NOT HARD AT ALL YOU JUST GOTTA DO THE WORK.

He is soft spoken but clear. Easy"A" as long as you do the homework. Higly recommended.
This teacher kinda sucked. He seemed like he didn't really want to ever be there and didn't do anything exciting to teach. Easy grade, but this class has potential for so much more. If this is offered with another teacher, I would take it with them.
Professor Bustillos is very nice, however, his lectures are very boring. I feel this type of class deserves someone who is a bit more passionate, and I did not see that in this class at all. He is really easy but I didn't really get much out of the class.
He is a very nice guy and a very interesting class. It’s pretty easy to get an A but he’s soft spoken and it can be a bit boring. It’s a cool class though.
If you manage to fail this class than your something else.
Bustillos sociology class is very easy to get an A. The tests are straight from the text and lecture and there are numerous extra credit opportunities. Honestly, his lectures are quite boring and the information seems useless. Nonetheless take his class, he's also very understanding.
He is really great, nice, and helpful. And he is very generous. He trys to give us extra credit. He truly cares about his students.
Easy class, tell you to write some video responses -BS it and still you can get A- and two essays, one for midterm and one for the final. If you cant get A on this class, dude you have a problem.
He is an open minded teacher that looks like a mouse. Good teacher. Way better then public high school and old teachers. He brings humor into the classroom when he feels like it. If not he teaches like he is reading from the book.
You have to do Chapter summaries for every other chapter 2pgs, 2 articles, 4 tests MC and 2 short answer (open book)... and 2 video papers...offers alot of Extra Credit for every test.. Very easy class, pretty interesting if you actually think about what hes talking about.. I would recommend taking him.. easy A
This is one of the most dull classes I've taken and it's mainly because Bustillos is such a sheep of his field. The class does not really require you to think, but only accept what sociologists believe is true. Sociologists complain about everything and argue with each other to no end. The class is easy but unengaging. Read the chaps. to get an A.
This class is super boring, all he does is lecture and write notes on the board. When he speaks, it makes you want to put a bullot to your head, but i have to admit its easy, you need the book, makes you do chapter summaries, articles and video responses. If you want an easy class take it, but if you dont have patience dont take it!
Okay people exagerrate.Ok maybe it is a little boring but he grades kinda easy.If you read the chapters you'll do good on tests. He grades summaries not by percentage but by check or check plus. He gives extra credit and gives you longer breaks than most teachers.I didnt do that well in tests and did some extra credit and hate sociology and I got B
Dr. Bustillos is a great teacher. He's very intelligent and knows his facts. The class may seem a little slow if you aren't a socio major but for me, i truly enjoyed it. Take him for "contemporary social problems", that's the best class. He's awesome!
I don't understand why people are saying he's boring. I found the class very interesting and i learned a lot about our society... Bustillos is AWESOME. He's always happy and smiling. His grading is very easy i never really understood how i could get so many questions wrong on the tests and still get like a 96. He also accepts late work.
this professor is really nice. you need the book for this class. you need to do the summaries and articles. read the book for the tests. you'll do fine. i really liked the subject, eventhough at times i fall asleep listening to his lectures.
Great teacher. Keeps you interested with his lectures. You take ALOT of notes on lectures and videos. He is very helpful and answers all your questions. Take home finals. He is soft spoken so it may be hard to hear him.
great teacher... doesnt pick on students and accepts any type of opinion you may have. Easy A if you ask me... you MUST read the book because part of the points he gives are on chapeter summariees..only 4 tests..no midterm or final...oh yeah and 2 article summaries n 3 more if you want extra creditd. easy class and the material is interesting
This guy is great!!!!Hes a really easy teacher if you just do your assignments, which arent that hard. And everyone will be able to pass!!!!!!
Sweet man. Genuinely cares about his students, and accepts alternative opinions. However, does absolutely nothing to involve the class....this is a lecture-oriented professor, not a discussion-oriented one. Furthermore, the lectures are ripped straight from the book, so listening in class is pointless. All classwork is purely busywork.
Lot of work for this class...a chapter summary and video summary every week. The work isn't hard, but time consuming. Very chill professor, but attendance is a must and he doesn't give you credit for going if you leave early. Lectures are pretty much straight from the book and kinda boring, but clear.
Really nice guy. Class was kind of boring but he's really nice and if you ask for help then he will help you out. Lots of work too.
I hated him at first! And assumed I'd recieve a bad grade. But as time went on, the subjects grew more interesting. I soon found his class better and it became very laidback. The homework was pretty chill. Summaries due weekly, video responses, EC opportunities, 2 small presentations. The tests werent hard. Id say it was in the middle. Ya, take him
extremely boring, extremey biased, extremely useless...However, extremely EASY. Four tests that are generously graded...I missed so mny questions, and somehow still got an A...if you want an easy A, this is the class for you
hes really nice and soft spoken. you do alot of notes and i mean ALOT. its kinda boring but if you pay real close attention he's saying really interesting stuff
I really enjoyed this class. If you don?t like to read, skip this class. Chapter summaries are due every class, so it forces you to read & LEARN! His lectures are straight forward & interesting. The videos shown are pertinent & eye opening. His tests are easy if you study. Chances for extra credit so if you miss an assignment, don?t fret.
Professor Bustillos is very soft spoken, but very informative. His lectures are interesting, but more engaging if you interact. He is open to questions and will discuss with you. It is easy, sometimes the homework gets tedious (chapter reviews) but you should learn a lot and walk away with a new outlook on society. Highly recommended.
Very nice and approachable teacher. Book is a MUST. chapter summaries and video responses due weekly but you get chances to get extra credit. Tests are rather hard but he lets you use your book for the essay part. Lots of notes to be taken but you do learn a lot. If you want an A you have to work for it.
Decent professor, but uninteresting. He teaches out of the textbook but with more economic emphasis (since that's what his degrees are in) and not enough of a focus on intersectionality. Doesn't aim to discuss but simply tells you how to think, which isn't very sociological. You learn more from the textbook than from lecture.
He is nice and friendly professor, soft spoken but uesful if you pay attention,
Forget your own thoughts and opinions. Just go by the book. The book is law. Forget knowledge beyond the book. The book has all the answers. :| Your own thoughts are not welcomed here.
He's nice and considerate,no one can deny dis.But his class's not so that easy, especially for ESL students, trust me!He's so softly speak that I even can't hear, and his classes are boring, all u need to do is just copy the notes and read the textbook(MUST!).If ur looking for socio1,take Arida's!
TEXTBOOK- a must have one. made us read every chapters in the book. Tests and quizzes are terribly difficult. Curve grader. extra credits are easy.
for those taking this class. GET READY TO SACRIFICE YOUR WEEKENDS TO READ THE TEXTBOOK AND MAKE THE SUMMARY. extremely ra cii ss tt...!!!
Nice teacher, a cute person
soft spoken! mid-term & final are take home but make sure your answers are THROUGH! extremely picky on the term paper sources, dont waste your time looking for articles, just get books, BELIEVE me. (save a bunch of time) if you party on thursday nights dont take his Friday morning class. DEATH! hungover and listening to this guy is the worst.
Very helpful and kind professor; lecture was pretty clear and interesting; there's no way you can fail this class if you do all the HW (chapter summaries). Exams were easy if you do the summaries and come to lecture. Take him! he's good.
2 page chapter summaries and 2 page video summaries due every week. Open book tests and written responces. Very laid back class but LOTS of notes written on the board.
If u can get used to hearing "you know" a million times during his boring lectures take it if not stay away!!!!
Do not think this professor. His test is hard and he dont like his students.
This professor is not easy at all.Especially his Exams,4 exams total, multiple chioces and short answers.Dont'trust what he said for short answers, appearently are long essays.Every week hwk is chapter summary, videoresponse may due every week or twice a week. His exams are based on the book and his lecture is extremely boring and lots of notes written
The coursework is stated among the other critiques. His tests proved to be moderately difficult, yet they are doable. As long as the work is done you should be able to pass & actually learn something. Keep in mind most classes are lectures, so this does entail copious notes & to eliminate boredom you should be interested somewhat on the subject.
He is a very nice person and he is very serious on papers. He uses textbook a lot but he also makes very good outline and notes. Not easy but good professor!
his class requires a lot of work, for every chapter there is a summary which he grades on a very high scale. Overall, you can pass if you put the extra amount of effort. But, HE IS THE MOST BORING PROFESSOR EVER. HE CONSTANTLY SAYS "YOU KNOW" AFTER EVERY SENTENCE. his lectures are a drag and he just makes you hate the subject
It's A LOT of work. So many hours of reading and writing. The topics are tough, the reading material is difficult as well. Not a class I would recommend for a full schedule.
Very nice professor. But, his tests are extremely difficult. I would say on average, most of the students would receive D's or C's on the Exams.(Multiple choice+short answer ?'s(more like short essays) Reading all of the chapters is a must, as he makes us summarize each chapter. (he grades these VERY seriously). 2 article presentations.
Pretty standard. Do the chapter summaries (be very very thorough). Read the textbook and you'll get an A on the exam. In the exams there is the multiple choice section and the short essay portion. Multiple choice isn't hard and neither is the essay portion; seeing as how it's open book. More often than not, the class WILL be boring.
I took this class online & I thought this class would be fairly easy. About 3 weeks in to the class I realized he grades very hard. Example: assignment 10 pts, miss 3 things you'll get 4 out of 10. There's about 6 LONG assignments in a week. He takes almost an entire week to grade last weeks assignments. I wish I never took him.
this professor was not helpful and was clear of what his lessons or lectures were about. This experience that I had in this class was HORRIFIC. I most definitely REGRET taking this class. he dropped me from class due to my 2 family emergencies and claimed that they were unexcused. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
He seems nice at first, but very quickly you will see he is not . The lectures seemed to be based more on his viewpoints rather than fact. To be honest I don't think he likes his job. The lectures are very detailed and cover everything on the exams, however I definitely would not recommend him.
Prof. Bustillos is def. not a bad professor. Although I wish lectures included group discussions since this subject is very interesting. 4 tests (400 pts total) 11 assignmments ( 3 questions to answer which accumulate to mini essays) and some video responses ( 1-2 page response. ( 10 pts each). lectures are based on tests, must read textbook!
My first review I've decided to write it on this instructor. I'll be very clear.. If you have an opinion, leave it at home when you come to this class. This professor does not care about you at ALL, as a SOC major, i have lost total interest pursuing this major because this professor has drained me from this coursework. Recommend another professor
If you're a lazy student and you're not interested in the material, you won't do well. It's super easy to get an A in this class as long as you study and follow deadlines. Prof Bustillos gives great lectures with loads of information, you will leave his class extremely enlightened. Tests are multiple choice & short answer, quizzes are open note.
He is a dedicated teacher. He is very passionate about what he teaches. Tests are multiple choice as A-B-C-D all of the above-E none of the above. Alot of short essays, and alot of long lectures!
Dr. Bustillos is a seriously righteous man. He is very well-informed, and if you read the (free!) text, do the assignments, and read the very interesting and current articles he provides, you will be well-informed, too. Tests are easy if you keep up. I loved this class.
No textbook, not much homework, only three quizzes, a midterm, a term paper, and a final. He either lectures or shows a video. I enjoyed the class and liked his sense of humor.
Bustillos is a very nice professor, not because he is funny, or "hands-out A's" but because he does care about his students. His class requires an expensive textbook, but he gives a link to a pdf file on the syllabus so you don't to spend your money. If you do not turn in some assignments on time, he does not punish you (don't make it a habit)
Im taking his sociology 2 class. As you're going through the lectures with him you understand. But when you re going to take the exam, he does not hand out study guides to help you with what to study specifically. The material is not hard, but his exams are in a way difficult. You question your answer A LOT. Hes a nice man but is a tough grader
The class is pretty straightforward. Weekly assignments, 4 tests, and no essays. Bustillos himself can be boring since he talks the entire duration of class or shows videos. Read the (free) book because he doesn't hand out study guides. Fairly easy class to pass with interesting topics.
He gives you a link to a FREE textbook that you'll have to use. Every week you'll have assignments so make sure you do them. The test were in a way difficult&she doesn't give you a study guide so find a way to review on your own. Compared to other sociology professors I've had he's my least favorite.
He speaks softly, so definitely sit in the front row. A bit of a boring speaker, but the material is very interesting if you enjoy sociology.
Dont take this professor unless you want to leave the class feeling like you completely wasted your time. Hi lectures are very biased and boring. Hes also very redundant and it gets irritating. Do yourself a favor and find yourself a professor other than this one... youll thank me later.
He is a very picky/specific grader, heavy notes every class, and is very bad at putting you on blast for anything. Beware of random pop quizzes, you read a lot of packets, and theres zero group work. Has unrealistic expectations and a huge ego. Can sometimes be disrespectful towards students and be judgmental. Did not enjoy his teaching style.
Show up and take good notes easy A. Weekly short writing assignments are easy just reword your notes done in 30min. Textbook is free online not that you'll really need it. Tests are multiple choice(closed notes) and short answer questions (open note). Professor is passionate about sociology and ties in current events to lessons.
This professor uses "you know", and "like" a lot. Says it back to back constantly, he feels like you should know what he's trying to say from his mind. He makes me fall asleep.
this class was so easy. SO easy. im the slowest person on earth and it was even easy for me. dr bustillos is so nice. i would take him again.
He is a very hard grader. From my experience he is not good at explaining things either. If you are hoping for anything above a C for this class dont take this professor.
The worst professor I have ever had; nit-picky with no feedback. For example on three separate occasions, he had questions on the quiz with two or more available answers. However, he did not specify that there could be more than one answer and offered no sympathy. He also will not offer feedback especially on quiz grades. Nothing besides ur wrong.
Easy homework, super nice and caring
This professor gave me the hardest time. Didn't care for my reasonable excuse for missing a quiz which dropped my grade. Very unorganized with important tests (there wasn't an actual test date until last minute) and gives unhelpful study guides. This online class was not for me, I wish anyone who takes it the best of luck!
I really enjoyed taking this class. Very interesting subject and would definitely take him again. He's very understanding and explains the subject very well. Don't be afraid to ask questions and your grade is mainly based off two weekly assignments. You use an online textbook but it's not too much work.
He's such a picky and tough grader for someone who does not know how to teach a SOCIOLOGY class... This course is more history-based. You can barely hear him talk during in-person lectures and he says "you know" like a million times, but NO I DON'T KNOW...
The workload was very fair and manageable. I felt comfortable in his class and overall he was a very chill professor. I would also say he is friendly and his lectures are easy to follow and understand. For this class just expect a lecture followed up by an assignment on the chapter that was covered. Good lectures, reasonable assignments, nice prof
Took him back in 2019. Pretty inspirational dude with lots of cool stories to tell. Learned quite a lot from this professor.
