By far the worse math teacher I have ever had
With test you start from 0 points it seems, and then you make points. Instead of starting from 100 and lose points. He thinks test time have to be short, then he takes a long time grading them. I just do not trust this teacher to promote my growth.
This guy thinks the end of the world is coming. He goes throught the material VERY FAST which make his lectures seem dull and totally unclear. If you like fast or are good at math go ahead and take him, or else choose some else that makes sure you learn and goes by a little slower on lectures.
I was lost the moment he opened his mouth. Not only is he unclear, but expects you to be as smart as him. His grading system really sucks! This Professor always seems bothered when he has to explain himself twice. I don't recommend him as a math teacher.
Hard teacher, but you learn a lot. And different ways of solving a problem.
Cordova is cool, make sure to take notes and do the homework. Problems on the test come from the notes and the homework. Study all his test for the final. He takes problems from the test and uses them on the final.
A bit strict at times, but good teacher. He takes the time to explain probs. in many ways until you get it. If he taught me math, he could teach anybody.
Willing to help students during his office hours and after class.
downward sprial taking people with him
Cordova is very helpful, he hands out study giuds before each exam and he goes through them with you. He explains math really well and makes things easier to undertsand. He is also very funny. He uses alot of examples and if you have trouble understanding something he will go over it again until it makes since to you. He's a great teacher.
Cordova is cool. respect is given to those who deserve it. His lectures are clear. humor is bland but what more can you expect from a math teacher. #1 rule ..DO THE HOMEWORK. and you will be ok.

He taught my summer math class and was great! Very organized and teaches great techniques!
i have to admit, when it comes to making the subject clear, there is no one better. he has great concepts, and one will understand after taking his class, BUT (oh and its a big BUT) he is the biggest prick in the school. He's a high school tacher gone wrong!!! Marks points off if you're late, gets easily mad at any noise, and marks points off severly.
Don't take calculus with him. he's hard.
i don't think he is that hard, as a calculus teacher...he gives u a review with answers before the midterm, the review is pretty helpful...and he will tell u which hw to turn in
Extremely hard to understand. Method of teaching needs to be changed. For example, during my experience he never was encouraging to the students. I would never recommend this instructor for math... No patience with the students....
I believe he was helpful especially when it came down to the midterm and test
He is the best Math teacher at Cerritos. He is strict when it comes to the work and exams. He wants everything a certain way, which may seem hard, but it really helps you learn the material better. He is very helpful and encourages you to learn. He is extremely funny and his class is not at all boring. You will learn alot from him. I know i did.
Cordova ought to stop teaching. He is impatient. Has no interest in repeating a lesson, i.e. taking questions and is very condensending to his students.
HE WAS AN HORRIBLE TEACHER & I WASTED MY TIME TAKING THIS CLASS. HE DOESN'T TEACH VERY WELL, & THIS CLASS IS FAST SO BE PREPARED IF U R TAKING HIM.
Great teacher! I didn't like him at first but he grew on me. He is very picky in grading (like he takes off points if you forget an = sign). However, this prepares us in the long run. Pay attention in class and never cause disruption. Gives extra credit for exams after. Wish he taught higher math.
the best math teachers that cerritos college can have he is helpfull even if he call you burro he is anice guy.
he's weak
Great teacher. Math is not my favorite subject but he has helped me to enjoy His teaching. He gives exam reviews before each teast and goes over it in class. Stickler for details but easy to understand. Some needs to convince him to teach math 114.
This instructor wears a lab coat to protect his shirt and pants from markers. Very funny ... good sense of humor. He's straight forward on what he requires for class. Show your work on homework and exams. He picks on little details (signs, integ/diff symbols, etc). Decent in terms of giving partial credit. Ask questions to slow him down!
Best math teacher. i've ever had. He's kinda and cool. I'm not good at math but I passed it with him as my teacher. looking foward to taking math 80 with him this Spring 2008. Or any other math class.
I passed his class, so I suppose that I can't complain TOO much. However, his teaching style is awful! I already hate math and taking his class didn't help the matter any. He is completely unfriendly and unapproachable. He insults his students frequently. He may be trying to be funny but he comes off rude and condescending. I would not recommend hi
Horrible, horrible. horrible. His teaching methods are unclear and are all over the place. Messes up examples and throws everyone off while taking notes. He gets irritated quickly, does not allow time for questions. If you're not that great at math, stay away!
WORST TEACHER I HAVE HAD SO FAR IN CERRITOS COLLEGE. HE IS NOT CLEAR WITH HIS TEACHINGS. HE ALWAYS THINKS HE IS RIGHT, AND HE MAKES MISTAKES WHEN HE TEACHES!!! I UNDERSTAND 1 OR 2 MISTAKES WHEN U DON'T HAVE NOTES. BUT HE MAKES MISTAKES TO HIS OWN NOTES. YOU CANNOT I REPEAT CANNOT MISS THE FINAL EVEN IF ITS AN EMERGENCY. IF U DO ITS AN ANTOMATIC F.
I love math don't get my wrong, nor am I lazy when it comes to doing homework, but he has got to the be the worst teacher I have ever had. I don't understand these positive reviews. His method of teaching is just horrible. He's rude, doesn't like to answer questions and is one of those teachers would rather point you to the math tutors, then help u
To be honest I get along with teachers, but for some reason this teacher is not one of them. he always picks on me in class like if i'm talking, I don't even talk in his class. It's hard to understand him, his teaching method is so horrible, you can't use a calculator in his class. He thinks he's funny but he's not. always repeats himself ANNOYING!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HES HORRIBLE!! IN HIGH SCHOOL MY MATH GRADES WERE A-C I GET TO COLLEGE AND END UP WITH THIS PROFESSOR AND GET AN F ON MY FIRST EXAM... INDEED I DROPPED HIS CLASS.. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.. TRUST YOU DON'T WANT TO TAKE HIM!
Lame jokes are lame. Just because George Lopez does it, doesn't mean you can.
professor cordoba moves a little fast but he is a good teacher, he makes errors in his lectures but he does it on purpose to see if we catch him ( if we know what we are doing). He is also fair and helpful. I really enjoyed him as a teacher.
he is hard to understand and always making mistaks. he claims that he did that on purpose but thats just sarcasm.you get lost in his lectures becaus he trails off the subject and goes to a complet different subject.he is rude and is always making fun of his students.he never pushes the students to do better he is always telling you to drop da class
He's good at teaching the material, but he's not good with people skills. He insults students and if you ask a question that he thinks is stupid he makes you look and feel like an idiot in front of the whole class. He doesn't give time after each lecture for you to try the math problems yourself.
If you are struggling then he is willing to help you, he's very fair and concerned about the students. My advice is take the time to see him during office hours it's absolutely worth it!
Try professor Sestini. You might even have a better time taking it semi-independent, which i highly recommend.
Always 10-15 minutes late everyday, doesn't care about students, points out that hispanics are always failing, doesn't offer help, falsifies syllabus: doesn't go by his own rules for exceptions for attendance, doesn't respond to emergency emails, this teacher just doesn't care about anyone but himself and his paycheck. please don't take this teache
WARNING!!!! Stay the HELL away from this A**HOLE!! He is the worst teacher in HISTORY! Is very careless. Does not want to here questions during the lecture and after. And does not want to help you. He tells you to go to tutoring. And other techniques learned in other classes he does not let you use them. He puts u down and makes u feel dumb!QUITalr
You're better off taking the placement out of math 80. Every negative comment on this teacher is absolutely true! Stay away from this guy. He doesn't care about his students! Those who say he's great their lying! He abuses his authority, b/se he's been working there for over 10 years, he needs to be fired! I hate this man w/ a passion!
he's very tiring so make sure hes the last class of the day... how ever, in the beginning i hated him but the longer i stay i started liking him.... but i still want be taking him again though..one time is enough(i passed with a B)
This professor is the worse professor on the cerritos college campus!! I GOT EXPELLED FOR DRINKING WATER IN CLASS!! he made me go see a counsler and she laughed at him for sending me. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and talks down to you!He wears a lab coat for God knows what reason. He's very annoying and test are hard
I really enjoyed attending his class and eventhough it was during the summer session he was very good at covering the material in class. I suggest to see him during office hour with any questions you have because he will always help you.
The fact that this teacher is still at Cerritos College is beyond me! He is rude and puts down his students when we try to participate in class. If we do not show work "his" way then we get marked off. His accent becomes very annoying along with his scatter-brained tendencies. I could only hope he is soon fired!
Incomprehensible anal teacher
EVERYBODY! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANNA ENJOY MATH. I'm not trying to sound mean, but he should just take his money and retire. If you have every answer on the test right, it will still be impossible to get an 100% unless you do the problem his way. Everyone would probably be better off taking semi independent or another teacher
before goingg in this class, math was pretty fun to me. I'm not trying to sound mean, but he should just take his money and retire and go have fun. If you have every answer on the test right, it will still be impossible to get an 100% unless you do the problem his way. Everyone would probably be better off taking semi independent or another teacher
I pulled off an A because I'm a genius and took this math class's subject matter back in high school. Professor Cordova is a HORRIBLE teacher though. He constantly berates students, requires absurd, extra unnecessary work to be done on math problems, and doesn't like to answer questions. He really does need to retire already; dont take his classes.
I did not like this professor at all, he is by far the worst professor ever. He calls the students names like "burro" and thinks he's George Lopez or something. I managed to get a b in the class due to outside help. I asked a question one time and he made me feel like the stupidest person on the planet. He also didn't pass out the rate your profess
I am agreeing with the rest of the students here, I mean Community College its a transition to upper level schools, to prepare you for the university levels, not belittle and degrade you. Mr Cordova doesn't apply any heart or motivation to the students, it seem he don't care and cares only about his method and his standards.
This guy is HORRIBLE. I took Math 60 with him and I had to withdraw. There was no point on going if I knew he was gonna fail everyone. He's not helpful at ALL and the "jokes" he makes actually put students down. I do NOT recommend him at all.
DO NOT TAKE ANY MATH CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER REGARDLESS IF THE TIME HE TEACHES IS FOR YOUR CONVNIENCE... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Cordova assigns HW that u don't need to turn in and he tells you what will be on the test. he even gives you a practice test/review to take home so u can study! seriously if u fail its bc u don't do the work and bc you're too busy being offended by his dry sense of humor. he doesn't allow eating and he is clear on that the 1st day so just LISTEN.
he was hard in grading. when i wold get the answer right he would mark it wrong just because i showed my work in a differnt way.that i learned with my high school teacher.i faild through out the semester until i took the final.because it wasnt him grading it.it was other teachers from the department. passed with a C-
Good teacher, dry sense of humor, but it had the class laughing quite a bit. If you want to pass, show up everyday, take good notes and do all the homework.I really stuggle with math and hadn't taken a math class in 10 yrs and still passed, so it's pretty easy if you take the time to do your homework.
KEY to passing the class is do the study guides MULTIPLE times & MEMORIZE the problems, he uses the same questions on the tests. Make sure you do the work HIS WAY or he will dock points off. he took 1 point off my HWs because it wasnt folded corectly. quite stupid. he isn't the best teacher, i would take him again ONLY bcuz i know what to expect!
He is a great teacher and he is very fair on his grading. He gives you a study guide before the exams. Very clear on his explanations of the material and I would take him again
I like the way he teaches. I learned a lot from him which has allowed me now to be on Calculus 1. I would take him again
This guy needs to retire. Class started at 12p and he wouldn't show up until 12:15 on a daily basis. Class ended at 1:50p and he would keep you until 2p. I know it sounds insignificant but trust me, when you're listening to his horrible condescending jokes, you're counting down the seconds. WORST TEACHER EVER.
Great professor! He's very easy to understand if you pay attention. He's also a very funny guy sometimes. I would definitely take a class with him again.
His class is very easy but sometimes goes of topic and he arrives late to class mostly every lecture day. But if you do your HW and do well on the exams you'll pass
I took the summer class and droped the 3rd week. He is easy to understand, but constantly made mistakes in examples. Even if there are two ways of solving a problem in the book, we have to use his way. I dropped mainly because i don't think like him, and he just didn't make sense to me.
I love this professor. I thought he was hilarious! He was so helful. His exams were fairly easy if you did your homework. I would def take him again for a different math course.
he constantly makes mistakes during lecture makes it confusing .
This professor is freaking awesome! If you do all the homework and study guides you will do fine! He is funny too! I really wanted to take him for Math112 but he does not teach it. I recommend his class!
He is Hispanic, early 60's with an Accent. Always 30 minutes or more Late and if you left you would be marked absent. Will always take up all the class time, he uses an over head and his notes are at times sloppy due to him having a shaking hand! He starts being nice but makes "funny" comments in Spanish and you won't understand them. Do Not Tak
He is horrible at lecture. He throws his own definitions at you and they make no sense. He really does not know how to teach this subject. His notes are very rough and the examples are everywhere with no real concrete foundation.
I dropped with a "w". I couldn't take it anymore. I like math much more when I can interact with the teacher and students. His lecture is all about him and the projector. Nothing else. Don't expect to write anything on the board. Or make sense of a problem together as a class. TIP: his exams are the same problems as his study guides.
He is a great professor, always study and dont listen to the bad comments, those are the students who didnt study. His class is easy and he gives out the study guides which are helpful on his test. If you take someone else, you are missing out. He is a great person and a great teacher. I wish he taught higher math like statistics. Trust me.
He is a good professor. He teaches what he has to teach but he is confusing. I would actually understand the book better. What bothered me was that in the test if you wouldn't solve a problem his way (consfusing way as well) points were taken off.
I would not recommend this professor. He gets frustrated and teases students when complete comprehension of course material isn't understood. He doesn't try to help. He will just recommend a similar problem on the notes. To be frank, I am a good student with a consistently high GPA. I've never had problems with any professors before this one.
Professor Cordova is a good teacher, not the best teacher out there but he's good. I absolutely hate math and yet I passed his class with a B. He assigned homework but didnt collect it. DO IT though its helpful. Basically show up for lectures study the review he gives its basically the test. He only grades you on tests and drops the lowest
his english is very heavy of spanish. if you can understand people speaking english with a very heavy mexican accent, you might be able to understand him. I am mexican, but i do not speak spanish that well so it's difficult for me to understand him and actually comprehend what he's teaching. he's funny ai cant understand him. Im dropping with a W
I truly enjoyed professor Cordovas class. Although he may not be your "typical" professor. He is very well structured & so are his lectures. It is nearly impossible not to understand the material being that he breaks it down step by step. His exam ate exactly what is expected & aren't difficult as long as you study your notes. I recommend him!!
If all you want is a professor who cracks jokes in spanglish & bullies other students for not speaking up, then you've got the right place. He actually got upset with me for bringing up a question during class when I was just trying to follow along with my calculator. I will pass his class no problem, but wow he is irritating and disrespectful.
He tells you what he expects up front. lectures are long. If you miss class he will not repeat what he taught. I like professors who are straight forward like him, but most people do not.
Flies by the lectures making it hard for one to understand the concept of his lectures. Changes chapters at random moments and comes back to another.
This professor like many said is very heavy lecture. He will go from the start of class and end at the end of class. He does not collect homework. He also gives out study guides. If you can do the study guides, you can get an A. A very chill class, but boring. His lectures are basically the example questions in the book.
He's an alright professor. His class is all lecture and they are so boring I always almost fall asleep. His writing is hard to read as well so he just makes it hard to follow along.
Professor calculates your grade through your test average and drops your lowest score. FAST PACED, NOT CLEAR professor. great technique for those who are self sufficient and want math straight to the point but a horrible professor to take if you need extra help.
Lecture from start to finish of class. Will not help you.
Took math 80 with him and got an A. Took math 114 with him and I got a B( the final was hard!) If you get offended easily don't take him, he can be rude. Homework is not mandatory and I never did any of it. He gives out study guides EXACTLY like the exams, so study/try to memorize and you will pass! But don't take this class if you stuggle in math.
If your looking for someone to show you what the book states, than this is your class. Not helpful with questions, his go to answer with questions is refer to the text in the book. Heavy in lectures and grade is achieve through exam scores only. He will drop you after 3 missed classes. Only good thing is once signed in you can leave.
Dont talk and dont eat in his class, he will kick you out. I didnt purchase the book. Come to class every day, take notes, and listen to him while he is explaining the procedure. No homework,I did it, you have to practice. Do the steps his way, show all your steps so you can get points. He gives study guides similar to exam.
He gives you everything you need to pass the exams. He provides a study guide with the answers, homework (not graded but will garantee you an 'A'), and he drops your lowest test score.
I've gone thru all the negative comments for this professor, and I thought this semester will be so horrible. But then my semester was so smooth and easy. The tip to study in his class is pay more attetion to his lecture, all the tests even the final are relevant of what he taught you. Carefree about the homework cuz' he's not gonna collect it.
Awesome dude
Ernesto Cordova is funny, straightforward, and prepares you for all of his tests. Show up to class, sign the roster, pay attention to lectures, homework he assigns is optional, hands out a study guide for tests, and will drop the lowest test score. 3 sections covered at a time in class, you can sign in and leave, Focus and Study the Guide; Easy.
I read a lot of these reviews about Professor Cordova and I just don't get it. If you show up to class, like you should be, you will 100% pass this class. He gives out study guides a week or two in advance and those questions are literally on the test and straight from your notes. If you fail this class it's on you not him.
Listen to the lectures to understand and doing the homework helps with the extra practice, but he does not collect it but will ask you if you had any problems and he will help you with it. grades you with 3 midterms (4 total drops lowest score) and final. gives useful test reviews. use those.
It's a math class so it's not going to be exciting. He lectures from beginning to end. Take notes he gives you step by step instructions on how to solve every problem. The homework is optional i never did it and still passed. Make sure you do the study guides and keep practicing the problems until you got them down. You are guaranteed to pass.
Since I started taking Math 80 as my last math course this year, Mr. Cordova was the only choice of professor that teaches math in the afternoon. Hes a brilliant instructor, but he would only give 4 midterm exams and the final exam for the semester. Most importantly, the midterm exams and the final exam are based from the study guides he gives us.
Lecture heavy, does problems on the review during these lectures step by step. Not required to do HW but definitely helps with your grade. 4midterms 100 each(drop low one)and final 150. These determine your grade. Practice reviews and you should pass, BUT class is for motivated people. IF really struggle w/ math don't take him keep reviews and exams
