Amazing Lectures, easy grader and is very passionate about what he teaches. I highly recommend his class.
His class was very easy. Did not expect much of you. Did not like that he assigned huge homework assignments three times during the whole semester instead of spacing it out. He also taught the class like a high school class instead of a college course
The material is great and he makes it very interesting. Highly recommended!
Favorite teacher this semester hands down. He is fun, spontaneous, yet structured. He's all about the heritage, he is very passionate. If you are looking into the course i so recommend him. He gives out only 4 major assignments all essays and one research paper, which is the final. The course was fun. The teacher is awesome. Take him
The class is an opportunity for you to change how you feel about Chicano culture. Honestly, the professor was inspirational. He gave interactive lectures where we openly could talk about our own experiences, culture, politics, and more. Our opinions matter in the class and I've never felt more welcome in a community college class.
Awesome teacher! He is a funny down to earth teacher. Not a difficult class. Favorite class!
The things he says during lectures are mind blowing and would definitely open your eyes. In a good way
Great teacher!
The course is fun! Prof. Martinez is great at lecturing, he is truly inspirational and very passionate about the course. I enjoyed this class so much, favorite course by far. He gives out four assignments and one research paper (final). All assignments are essays. We do class lectures that are interactive and entertaining. To fail his class is hard
Really fun and engaging class! A lot of convos on current events that tie back to our lectures. Highly recommend taking his class, opens your eyes to many things.
This class was super enjoyable. Be ready to read and have an INTENSE discussion. Grades are based on the 4 essay assignments. Pretty easy, just do reading and participate in the lectures.
Awesome teacher. You should definitely take his class!
I have never had an a professor this inspirational. Ernesto allowed all of his sudents to freely share their opinions. He made it clear that interpretations of text vary based off personal experience. I cannot reccomend this professor enough.
Great teacher! Very passionate.
I have taken all three of this chicano classes. He is a great professor who is very straight up and honest. He makes coming to class fun always laughing in class. Great teacher easy to get along with. I asure you, every class you'll learn something new and your able to express your opinions with out being judged. Great professor, one of the best
I really liked his class, he is really funny and always tries to help you out in any way he can. He explains everything we read even though we don't know the answer he helps you out, trying find what you think.
Ernesto Martinez is a teacher that wants ever student to succeed. As long as you are putting an honest effort he is willing to work with you. The way he teaches makes learning almost feel effortless because the assignments are relatable. Take the class you will enjoy it and learn more then you think.
Great class, I learned a lot that I didn't learn from mainstream history.
Excellent teacher, knows what he is teaching shows a lot of passion to his teaching. Recommend to take his class!
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! He is a great professor, the class is very interesting. And you learn a lot of important information and lesson in his class. I highly recommend taking his class! You just have to come to class and you'll be all good! He really connects with his students and he really cares about what he teaches!
Mr. Martinez is thorough with his lectures and are interesting. Class participation matters and the more you are engaged the less homework. The homework assigned was not difficult mostly reading a chapter or two and covering it as a class. I wrote two 7 pg papers the entire Semester. Everything in class is usually the same on the exams.
I took this class to fulfill my history class and I was also interested in my roots. You will definitely learn A LOT about the Chicano roots and history. He also talks about Native history. Definitely learned about things I never knew about, a real eye opener. I definitely recommend to take him!!! not much hw, it's not hard to get an A, pay attn.
Mr. Martinez is great teacher who makes history fun. I personally hate history but the way he teaches just makes you want to keep learning. Clear lectures and the stories that make you understand the history event well. We use three books that you will want to purchase and keep since they are very interesting. I definitely recommend this class!
Professor Martinez makes you think critically about what you learn and will challenge you to think about what is going on in the world and how the past has directly affected what happens now. This class is extremely interactive and teaches you to observe and think critically. It is an eye opening class that will change the way you observe the world
Really enjoyed his class! Left everyday having learned something new!
Prof. Martinez is a great professor. Its clear he does this class to teach not to flunk. Be there and pay attention and you'll pass, a couple papers but as long as you're present they're very easy. No excuses in his class but you shouldn't have a reason to not be doing good. Go to class and the content will be very easy!
He is passionate and he'll probably instill his passion for Chicano/a history in you as well. This is a class that gets you invested. Get ready to get called on during class. he really keeps you on your toes so falling asleep is not an option. Be vigilant, pay attention and you'll do fine.
Really good professor, one thing to note is that when he says something will be on the test, IT WILL BE ON THE TEST.
He is extremely blunt but in a good way. He'll let you know what really happened in history without sugar coating anything.
He's a great professor! Very thought provoking and insightful. Much more than just Chicano history/ studies. Topics relate to more than just latinos! High reccomend for all races. Not really any homework, doing the reading helps a lot.
Mr. Martinez is very passionate about his work. His lectures are very interesting, straight forward about what he expects from you in class. Attend class, PAY ATTENTION, no trouble passing.
Truly an eye-opening experience. Growing up, I simply considered myself Mexicana without knowing the implications and history of what that meant. This class has made me realize how little I knew about my own culture and taught me to be more open minded about the history behind the culture/people. An awesome class taught by an awesome teacher.
Professor Martinez is a great teacher he is very informative and if you attend his lectures you will learn a LOT. He makes his teaching very interactive and makes learning in his class super interesting. I would definitely recommend taking his courses!
This was absolutely one of my favorite classes. I can honestly say that this class didn't feel like a regular "ugh, I have to take this class" it was a course I actually looked forward to every week. Left the class every week with a new perspective. Highly recommend the course and this teacher, take it from someone who never liked history.
This course is very fun and eye opening class. This was a great opportunity to know what really happened in history. This class was very straight forward and there's no way you could fail this class.
Great professor! Probably one of the best I have ever had. To be quite honest, I only took this class because it completed a requirement, but I am so glad to have had him. He doesn't give out boring lectures, and doesn't assign dull reading. Besides that, he is hilarious! The humor definitely makes his classes fun!! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Martinez is a really great teacher, and his lectures are the best! He will answer any of your questions in class or by emails. There's not much homework, but there are a couple reading assignments. Just show up to class, pay attention to him and his lectures, and you will get a good grade.
Honestly have never been a huge fan of history, it isn't my strong suit, But, this class was amazing. I learned a lot to the point that the way I think about certain things has changed. He teaches the things that you didn't learn about in high school for reasons you will only find out about if you take his course. He is also funny & cares!
Professor really knows his stuff. This class is very different than regular history classes. If you come to class regularly and pay attention, then the midterm should be a piece of cake. This is an eye opening course and teaches things you will never learn outside this class. Professor is very engaging and you will never feel bored in this class.
Never have I met an educator that has as much passion for the subjects he teaches than Professor Martinez. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is willing to look past the misconceptions of history. Not only does he encourage your participation but gives you the tools to be a critical thinker and develop ideas and opinions of your own.
Professor Martinez is the only teacher that I like because of the passion he has for what he teaches. He engages with his students and lets you speak your mind. When you have a professor that is as passionate as he is, it makes the class more fun and interesting to learn about most topics. I'd definitely take his class again.
This class was very informative and insightful. I learned about a lot of things that I would have never learned about in a regular History class. I don't know whether it was that History skipped over a lot of important things or that I just didn't pay attention in high school, either way in this class I learned so much and was always connected.
Ernesto Martinez holds a very open history class where hes question leaders in society for what they accomplished and how they accomplished them. He does not hold back on information and loves to get feedback on his students and how they feel about the course material he teaches. Very understanding of students ability to meet course requirements.
Solid teacher
Professor Martinez really cares about the subject matter and the class was so interesting because of that. He encourages you to see the patterns in history and compare them with current events, which makes you see how relevant the past really is. He teaches you a lot about the sides of history most of us weren't taught before. Would def take again
Professor Martinez was just like the reviews I read. He tends to reveal facts about various historical backgrounds and how they were treated from- we tend to not know about. His summer class requires you to write 15+ pages. It was great & sad to know the truth about what was hidden in history. Do take him to get a different perspective in history!
I've learned a lot in this class and I've even teared up a few times. This class never gets boring nor do I ever dread going. Professor Martinez is a passionate and intense(in a good way) man. He is very involved in what he teaches and encourages his students to speak and become involved too. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
I took this class for summer and I dont regret it at all. Great teacher that makes lectures super fun! There is a lot of homework but his an easy teacher. You defiantly learn a lot. Highly recommend taking this class
I entered the class not liking history, after this class I could say I enjoy history. I learned so much in this class and I would definitely take it again. I do not regret it at all.
Interesting class. You're likely to pass if you participate. He's passionate about the topic.
Un profesor bueno. He's really passionate about what he does and making sure his students are passionate in what they're learning. I would take all my Chicano studies classes from him if I could.
Great Class! No sugar coated material all the real ugly truth! Very informational and fun. Very funny teacher. The only issue is you receive your grades at the end of the course but if you read and participate you will do good.
Amazing course! Amazing teacher! Professor Ernesto completely opens up your eyes to many of the unspoken truths in the country and the world! Took this for the summer, and I can honestly say it was the first summer class I was excited to go to!!!!! Recommend him 100%!!!!!!!! Very enjoyable!
Best professor hands down! If you are lucky enough to take his class, you will not be disappointed. He teaches you in ways that make the lectures fun and engaging! The movies he shows are awesome. His class makes you want to take more history classes, even if you hate history! He's a prof you can keep in contact with forever!
I would highly recommend you take Chicano History 102B with Mr. Martinez. I take the 3 hour version of this class and he finds a way to keep you engaged the whole time. He gets the whole class to participate in the discussions which is something that has really helped me learn. Overall, I think hes a really good teacher and I would take it again
Professor Martinez is a great professor who you can tell truly loves the subject he teaches. Lectures cover interesting topics which really make you think more deeply about not just Chicano history but also American history as a whole. He puts a lot of emphasis on participation during lectures so make sure you are paying attention during class.
If you take this class expect to participate. This Professor will remember your name and he will call on you to read or give input on topics. Participation is heavily weighted. His class is split evenly between reading aloud and documentaries/ videos. I really liked that because the videos kept the material interesting.
Professor Martinez uses this class to offer insight to a different aspect of American History. Many History classes will follow the same beats and only offer a Eurocentric perspective. Prof. Martinez discusses the contributions of marginalized groups in the country and he also throughly explains the injustices in US history that are often ignored.
Mr. Martinez is truly a dedicated teacher to his students and the course he teaches. Great book selected. His class is equally divided from documentaries-reading as a group and having discussions on your personal perspective of the subject being discussed. Its an inspirational class that has inspired me to continue studying about Chicano History.
He is an amazing professor that genuinely cares about the subject! He gives you a different perspective on the history of America. His class is straightforward, and everything is easy to follow. I only took this class to fill a requirement and I'm so glad I did his insight was an eye-opener. I would highly recommend this class.
Great class with an amazing professor! Lectures are incredibly interesting and Professor Martinez is always straight up and passionate when he lectures. Participation during class is crucial for a good grade, but he makes it super easy by always asking for your opinion.
Professor Martinez is really good at his job, you can tell he really enjoys teaching Chicano History. I took a late night class that was three hours long, class goes really fast, professor make the class interesting and makes everyone participate making it go faster. he does leave homework but its mostly reading. He's a really fair grader as well.
Professor Martinez structures the class in a way that opens up your eyes to things you might not have learned in high school or other college courses. The work load consisted of reading chapters out of the book and doing an analysis paper per section. He grades generously as long as you show some sort of effort and understanding about the topics.
No doubt Professor Martinez is great. Personally, I think writing an essay for each chapter of the book is a bit too much. I also think that maybe he should add in some group discussion or something similar instead of going solo throughout 2.5 hours. Other than that, he shows great knowledge and humor.
Professor Martinez is with no doubt a great professor. His lectures are very engaging and interesting. He teaches you that there is always a but and nothing is exactly what it seems. This course opens up your eyes to different perspectives. I would definitely recommend this course. Reading and participating is a must in order to pass.
Prof. Martinez is one of the best professors I have taken at Ohlone. Over the course of the semester I have learned so many things that usual history classes shy away from talking about. He is very blunt and tells it like it is. The discussions in class become very real and the course not only focuses on Mexican American history but all minorities.
Professor Martinez does a great job in getting you engaged in his class. He always has your attention because he doesnt sugarcoat anything, hes passionate when he teaches and he always has interesting lectures. A decent amount of reading but his book selection is perfect. Overall a great class!
Very passionate about topics and has a sense of humor that makes you engage.
Really makes you engage by being so passionate and having a sense of humor
I thought his class was smooth and informative as long a you attend class and complete the Homework.
A very eye-opening class. No sugarcoating and really explains why the world is the way it is now. Very enjoyable!
prof. Martinez is one of the best prof. at Ohlone college because he never stops you from your thoughts about the class. He is very flexible with everyone, and he tried his best that student understands the lessons very well. I wish we had extra credit opp. he taught what is going to happen in the past and present. I really happy with his teaching.
This class is very interesting, ,used take for all white peoples and all peoples in general . Learn the truth about the original 15 colonies. Only reason I point out that particular group, is because if you aren't one of the despised then it would essential for you to know how the disenfranchised are treated and live.
When I "rate" or size up a professor I look for two things: communication and passion. This professor passes my "litmus test" with flying colors. An instructor who is personally invested in what they teach, clearly draws out what they expect of you, and is actively engaged with students is what should set the standard among educators.
Super enjoyable, I primarily took this course because it covered so many of my pre reqs but this was easily my favorite class since Ive been at Ohlone. He pushes you to actually learn about history that is relevant to all of us- not just chicanos. Super interesting, he is really passionate about what he teaches.
The lectures are heavy but are manageable since Professor Martinez provides information that is very interesting and engaging with the class. You also tend to question past historical events and see a different outlook from the information given by Professor Martinez. The homework is manageable and the midterms are straight forward.
Man what can I say? Professor Martinez is so passionate about his class and really makes you want to learn more every class. We get in some deep conversations which are very interesting & kool. Just show up for class & pay attention cause he will call on you. He does give homework but its not hard just do it! His a really good professor!!
I really enjoyed Prof. Martinez class. Learned a lot and was actually really interested in the stuff he taught, which says a lot cause Im really not into History.
Professor Martinez makes the class course very enjoyable. Lectures can get into a deep discussion. Mr. Martinez will not sugarcoat the facts. He does give homework every week, but it's only to prep you for the midterm and the final essay. He makes everyone participate during class. He prefers the class to whats on their mind about the topic.
This class is easy to pass. He does not assign a lot of homework. Just expect weekly 3 pg essays, 1 midterm, an final essay and in class exam. but that's really it. Great option if you're tired of basic history and is very insightful. He does not use canvas only email so it can be confusing what is expected and what you're grade is.
Professor Martinez is a great educator, although his lectures are lengthy he has a particular style of lecturing where you DONT dread going to class. participation is essential for student success. Professor Martinez does have homework but it isn't time-consuming, just as long as you read you will be able to complete his assignments.
His class is unique in that he takes chicano history from the past and ties it in to ongoing events today. Lectures are long but interesting, you will end up learning that much of what you have been taught before is a lie. Prof Martinez tells history like it is. For hw you can expect a 2-3 page analysis every week on a chapter from the textbook
I would definitely recommend taking this class. It is easy to know what is expected of you and as long as you do what is asked. His class is very engaging and he is passionate about what he teaches.
Our class met once a week. For homework we read a chapter a week and turned in a 2-3 page analysis. His lectures include a lot of class participation as he calls on many students to provide their opinions on the topics. He respects everyone's opinions, and enjoys hearing different points of view. His lectures are interesting and he is funny.
HW consisted of reading/ ch. analysis and 1 paper. I would suggest taking notes during class. He points out if something will be on midterm/ final which is nice. The lectures were very interesting & he is really passionate which helps to sit through them! I would have liked if study guides were available as there is a lot of info to take in.
Professor Martinez is great teacher. At first I took the class just because it fit my schedule but I actually ended up learning a lot of interesting things in history that you aren't told. As long as you show up everyday and try when he ask questions then you will have no problem passing.
A professor with real passion for what he talks about. I appreciate that as a history class he doesn't just they you about what happened, but what it ended up causing and how it is affecting us today. My only criticism would be that sometimes our in class discussions stray to far from the original or related topics.
Straightforward class. Interesting and amazing lectures. Great Professor. Professor Martinez is very passionate about what he teaches and encourages his students to speak and participate more in his class. I actually ended up learning a lot of interesting things. I would highly recommend this class with Professor Martinez. Amazing class!!!!!!
Professor Martinez class is straightforward. His lectures are always interesting and thought provoking. Professor Martinez is very passionate about the subject. He encourages everyone to speak and share their opinions. His class is very insightful and I actually learned many things that I was unaware of. His homework is also very straightforward.
If you need a History class, take Professor Martinez. Compared to other professors with long lectures, his class was NEVER BORING and you'll actually learn a lot from him. Be prepared though because he will call on you once in awhile. His class is relatively simple and straightforward, just come in ready to listen and you'll not regret taking him.
Professor Martinez is probably one of the few professors who can make a 3 hour night class go by quickly and won't have the class fall asleep. He is a great and you can tell he's passionate. His class isn't boring and you actually learn, so basically just show up and listen to get a good grade. Everything is simple and straightforward.
I highly recommend this class. I'm not a history buff and could never stick to a history class until I enrolled in CHS102A. I found myself actually wanting to go to class and Professor Martinez has a great way of relating past and present. If you want a class that makes you think and learn from the past, take this one. I'm already enrolled in 102B.
Overall a professor that does not sugar coat most of the lecture. Makes one critically think in many aspects that not only affects Chicanos, but everyone as a whole. A lot of interesting debates and arguments that I have heard from this clan, which makes you attentively listen to the lecture closely. A solid method of teaching, and great vocals.
I like how Professors Martinez, gives you many point of views. This helps you develop your own ideas about certain topics. He is very open to discussions and is a great tacher.
Professor Martinez is a great professor. I find his way of teaching more helpful than others for he is not too concerned about dates and names but rather what and how the student feels; their perspective. Class and class work is straight forward. If you pay attention and do the readings, which sometimes can be pretty lengthy, you will do fine.
Leave class always with a new perspective. Does a great job in informing the facts of the different experience through history and how it effected people in the past and its legacy now. He really wants to know the ideas and thoughts from the students.
Absolutely amazing professor who gives great lectures! The class discussion makes you question and view things from a different point of view than when you first started taking it. This course and teacher will always have you asking a what if and a desire to research further on any topic that is discussed in class and on homework assignments.
Professor Martinez is very passionate about what he teaches. Unlike other teachers, professor Martinez really cares about your opinions as well as your understanding. Through his teaching style, I became more engaged as a student and understood topics way better than other professors. Would deff take again we need more professors like Mr. Martinez
I highly recommend you take this class because Mr. Martinez' lectures truly opened my eyes and have shed light on all the flaws that those in power choose to hide. He keeps you engaged during the lecture by asking what you are thinking about the subject matter and he makes the class very interesting. Take his class, you won't regret it.
Connections the history from the part to important issue today. Does a bit of lecture mix articles and video. Martinez is strong and passion speaker on topic. Homework is usually a weekly analysis of chapter. He does not do canvas, but if you do the work your fine.
Professor Martinez is really passionate about what he teaches. Class attendance isnt recorded but if you do miss class frequently you may not pass with his lectures and paper assignments. I had him for Chicanos 102B and I definitely learned a lot of important information. Take this class if you like Chicano history highly recommend this professor
Professor Martinez is well respected and appreciated by his students. He is a passionate advocate for people of color and social justice. He brings raw, and at times, brutal facts, from past and present, to the forefront. The lectures are informative and thought-provoking. Class time goes by quickly with lots of videos and interactive readings.
I came to this class not knowing anything about Chicano Studies. Not only did I learn many different topics in Mr. Martinez's class, I very much appreciate his enthusiasm in regard to teaching the class. I highly recommend that you take the class to learn about topics that are generally not discussed!
I have taken both parts of Professor Martinez's Chicano history classes and I must say he's changed my perspective in the world. I learned so much about not only Chicanos, but other ethnic groups and minorities His classes really inspired me to learn more and take action. He also explains things well and in an entertaining way.
He is one of best professor in Ohlone College because he teaches very well and his lessons would help u now and future. He is very kind professor . I used to hate history but now I love it when I took his class . I would recommended to everyone to take this class .
This is the second course I've taken with Prof Martinez and because of him, I'm thinking of being an ethnic studies minor! If I could take his classes every year I would, although most of the classes are at night, it goes by so quick because he makes the lectures so interesting and relative to what is happening today in the world today. Take him!!!
I knew this class was gonna be different than a regular history class but I was not prepared to be mindblown with the amount of information this world doesn't bother to expose people with. I absolutely love this class, he teaches about all minority races way more than just Chicanos. He has so much information and is very passionate about sharing it
I have never taken a class quite like this one. Professor Martinez is able to teach everything that you won't find in your normal history textbooks. It was so interesting learning about the things no one really wants to talk about. If you love learning new things then this is the class for you.
My second time taking a course with Mr. Martinez and the class never disappoints me. He does not make the class boring. Everything he teaches is interesting. He likes to hear everyone opinion on the topic, but most importantly making sure everyone is understanding the lecture. You must show up to class and do the assignment to receive a good grade
I really enjoyed taking a class with Professor Martinez. I was able to gain a lot of perspective and knowledge that's not taught in most history classes. I can really tell that he has a passion for what he's teaching as well as caring for his students. For a good grade in his class, attendance is really important as well as completing assignments.
Professor Martinez really knows how to make his lectures fun and interesting. There wasn't a lecture we sat through that made me feel bored or uninterested. He uses videos and documentaries and doesn't focus only on Chicanos to further his point that racism is systematic for minorities as a whole. He's very clear on assignments and what he wants.
This was my first class, and I loved it. Professor Martinez r knows how to make his lectures fun and interesting. He is understanding and will give you an extension if you need it. I would take his class again.
Professor Martinez has been a great professor and actually shows the dark history of the U.S. and it really gave me a new perspective on things. Make sure to do all the homework and come to class to get a good grade! If you do all this the tests will be a breeze.
For this professor you will be getting a lot of videos to watch in class so you can learn a lot of what he want to teach to us, it is not mandatory to take notes but you should take them anyways. you should also be prepared to be called on just so you can talk and speak your mind, and that will be OK. I highly recommend this teacher!
Mr. Martinez is a fantastic professor. You can really tell just how passionate he is about both the subject matter and teaching in general during his lectures. The main highlight of his teaching is how real he presents the subject matter. He isn't afraid to use language or imagery to present the hard and frightening nature of the subject.
First time taking a course with Professor Martinez and honestly, it was a really great experience :) He's really engaging, his lectures are very informative and interesting, he opens up your eyes on different issues, and he has an amazing sense of humor. 100% recommend taking him! Just be prepared to read a lot.
Passionate professor, if ask for feedback you will receive honest feedback
Professor Martinez was an amazing Professor. He is lecture heavy but it is not boring, its videos and article that we were out loud and there are extremely interesting. I would take this class again he knows his stuff and is passionate about what he teaches
Hes a really good teacher lectures are very heavy but notes always work . If you attend class and pay attention its a good class . Overall easy class , just have to make sure to do homework and be on time with homework . Midterm was fairly easily , simple and straight to the point . If I could I would completely take this class all over again .
Professor Martinez is passionate when it comes to chicano history. He shows both sides of history, the good, the bad, the ugly. As a student we are thought one side of history and by taking his class you will learn new and incredible things.
Professor Martinez is a fun, fair Professor. He makes an evening class feel like a breeze. He is passionate about what he teaches and is always willing to answer any questions. Homework is always interesting and relevant to each weeks topic.
Professor Martinez truly has a passion about the subject that he teaches and it shows in his lectures and class discussions. He respects his students and values different perspectives and opinions and makes sure that your voice is heard. The lectures are information filled and interesting which makes students excited to learn more about the subject
Ernesto is a really good professor, the class is a bit long considering that I took it at the end of the day and it was a 3 hour long class. He still made the class lectures very interesting. I was never bored during the class because you can see his excitement for what he was talking about and it made you want to listen. I would definitely retake.
Professor Martinez is a great professor! He can make the class interesting he also has a great sense of humor. For homework, we would write a 3-page analysis every week that can get tedious and time-consuming. You can get a lot from this class learning about the dark history of America. He is open to hearing out people's opinions during class.
I took Professor Martinez for Chicano studies. I would suggest taking him for this class. He cares about his students, and their grades. His lectures are pretty interesting. I have learned so much in this class, and Im happy to be a lot more knowledgeable now in this subject. Hes a very patient teacher, and extremely understanding!
I can say without any hesitation, Mr. Martinezs lectures are genuine, he is full of passion, energy, and motivation. He encourages his students to think critically, instead of just absorbing the information. He strips down the history and focus on the truth and gets his student to talk. Take this class with an open mind and share your experiences.
In his class be prepared to do weekly analysis on chapters you read in the book. The discussions are pretty interesting in the class and he basically allows you to express any of your opinions without judging you. However, even though the class is once a week it is 3 hours long in the evening so prepare to take a coffee with you! Overall, fun class
Mr. Martinez is a great professor! I can honestly say one of the best professors for lecture, with this class being all about history and class being 3 hours long late at night he keeps it overall interesting. 3-page analysis due every week on a new chapter, but that's really all he asks for. Tests? Go to class and it will be a piece of cake.
Professor Martinez is an excellent professor that touches on controversial topics and allows the students to really express their opinion without judging student's discussions. I was able to learn a lot through his class, his assignments are very straight forwards and are credit no credit-based. You do have to write 3-page papers every week.
My 102A class with Professor Martinez is just as engaging as his 102B class. Professor Martinez is dedicated to teaching the truth. He is very kind, caring, and especially accommodation during this COVID-19 pandemic. Expect to do 3-page essays for the first 6 chapters plus mid-term and final. Informative class and awesome mentor.
This was a great class to take. His style of teaching is fair and direct. He respects the thoughts and opinions of his students. As long as you do the minimum work required there's no reason you shouldn't pass this class. In terms of homework, we wrote weekly 3 page essays. I had a love/hate relationship with the essays.
I really enjoyed this class even though I took it strictly for the credits. Super easy going and understanding if you need adjustments. He is a really involved teacher just wanting to share opinions and discuss. He is the most opened minded Professor Ive met yet and its super refreshing. I personally believe he is out here to make a change.
Professor Martinez is one of the best professors I have had, including the professors I experienced at the 4-year private university. He cares about students knowing the truth of history, and just wants you to learn! He gives weekly assignments which is usually just a 3-page analysis on the reading. Really recommend taking his class!
Professor Martinez shows how passionate he is about teaching Chicano Studies and also tries to include many other cultures in his lectures. His lectures will keep you engaged at all times because they are so interesting. He cares about his students thoughts and opinions from the lectures with having open discussions. You'll truly learn so much!
Mr. Martinez is a great professor! highly recommend taking his class, you will learn a lot. His class is very interesting and hes very passionate about his teaching. He respects and cares about his students thoughts and opinions. Gives weekly assignments in which its 3 page analysis on the readings.
Professor Martinez cares tremendously about the subject. He want every single one of his students to participate and give their thoughts to the material presented to them. He encourages class discussion & actively tries to get every student to participate each class. I was impressed by this professor & would love to take another of his courses.
The class is really interesting and fast paces. The Professor is really good as well. If you ever need help he is available to talk to. Attendance is mandatory to pass in the class. Nevertheless, the topics taught are very interesting and hands-on. The professor is genuinely interested in what he teaches and is able to relate it to the students.
Professor Martinez is one of my most respected teachers this semester. While I do admit that having a paper due every class was a lot, it was necessary as it was only 1 class a week. The lectures were very interesting, bringing information from many sources instead of the just the textbook. As long as you listen in class, you can easily pass.
Prof. Martinez is one of the most passionate, enlightening, amusing,& sharp professors I've had. His lectures are profoundly interactive & overall engaging. He discusses relevant topics/events that have occurred & continue you to occur. Prof. Martinez demonstrates that everyones thoughts & opinions matter. Take him & you'll gain more perspective
Prof. Martinez is without a doubt passionate about what he teaches. The lectures are very good. He doesn't like wasting time and gets straight to the point, which I find refashioning. The best part is that he focuses on the land rather than just chicanos. He tends to stray of the topic and the book at times which has his pros and cons but its neces
Information will be presented in this class that one never even thinks about prior to taking this course. Professor Martinez does an excellent job of getting his students to question the norm and to take a deep dive into whatever subject is being taught regardless of how controversial it might be. He is also very passionate about the subject.
Professor Martinez does a very well job at keeping the material interesting and bringing back the material back to our real life situations. The material is very interesting it shows the truth of America and other countries, teaches you what an ordinary American history teacher wont tell you. He transitioned to online very well with the situation
he is super understanding, especially during the COVID crisis. He is flexible but you will not pass if you don't do the weekly reading assignments. Since he is Chicano and a Native American he dives deep into the material and helps you understand it more! I was never bored in his class because he kept it interesting. Can be lecture heavy! worth it!
There are not many professors, especially at Ohlone, that are passionate about teaching their subject. Professor Martinez is a great example of one who not only cares about his subject but respects his students and their ideas. Professor Martinez is also very flexible; if you have an emergency, he will excuse you. I 100% recommend him to all!
Prof Martinez makes us feel welcomed, that we belong in his class; he is polite and attentive, which makes us feel included and that our opinion matters. The information he provides throughout the semester is relevant and backed by facts that widen our understanding and allow us to become more aware. He can make a positive impact on our lives.
He is passionate about his job and strives to make his classroom a safe learning environment for all his students. The workload for this class is not difficult but the homework assignments allow students to further understand the class material. He is understanding when students are having difficulties and easy to approach with questions.
Professor Martinez is one of the best teachers Ive had at Ohlone College. His lectures are very interactive, be prepared to participate! He certainly cares about his subject, and relates it to current events. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Professor Martinez is one of the best teachers Ive had at Ohlone College. He certainly cares about his subject, and relates it to current events. His lectures are entertaining and be prepared to participate with thoughts and opinions of your own. I would definitely take a class of his again.
Professor Martinez is a great professor. Unlike most of the professors that I have studied under, I noticed that he makes a great effort to learn everybody's names, not just the students that participate all the time. This was key for me because he more than likely knows how much effort you put into the class, which is good for your overall grade.
The professor is fair and the class is simple. On the first day you will know what to expect the class to be like. I liked that not only did we learn what happened in the past, but we also learned how it had an affect today. I also liked that the students were given a chance to share their opinion on a topic that we are on. Recommend taking this.
The professor gives amazing lectures and does an amazing job of breaking down things that could potentially be overwhelming. I especially appreciate the videos and articles read aloud in class, the professor typically does a recap to explain further and help you as a student connect the dots. I really enjoyed this class it has so much to offer!
Professor Martinez is great at what he does. He gives great lectures and really goes into detail and covers the chapters. Be prepared to participate.
Professor Martinez truly shows the true history of America and Chicanos. He goes over the history what happened and why it happened. Even though I took this class for the credits i enjoyed this class and it taught me a lot about how the world really functions. The lectures that he presents might be a bit lengthy but he tries to keep it entertaining
Ernesto Martinez is very passionate about what he teaches which in turn makes you interested in the class. The class is a little too long being around 3 hours long, however the lecture material is eye opening and inspiring, filled with engaging discussions . This is a must take class for anyone interested in the truth of Chicano History
Professor Martinez does his absolute best when teaching his students. If you're looking for a class that you'll enjoy, he's got it. Professor Martinez is light on the homework assignments but you must come to class and participate if you want a good grade.
Amazing professor. From day one he mentions how the class will be and what you need to do in order to pass! I love his honesty and how he makes class discussions open. He is very passionate about history and makes it interesting where you want to participate in discussions as well. Make sure to show up to class on time and do you assignments!
He is hands down the best History teacher I have ever had. He is super clear and easy to understand when teaching. Very understanding and easy to approach. Also, when giving lectures he practically tells you what will be on the tests and quizzes. Great professor and I DEFINITELY recommend taking him if you need to take a history class.
A well-spoken and up to date professor who is knowledgeable and passionate about the topics he covers. Provides clear and concise instructions for assignments with ample time to complete. Would take again for insight into relatively unknown American history as well as current politics. Learned much about Chicano history in the United States.
Amazing Professor! He is passionate about what he does, and it reflects throughout his lectures. There is homework due before every class, which is from the previous readings that were assigned. Attendance is mandatory, but it's one of those few classes that are fun to go to as he allows students to provide their input on the topics discussed.
Professor Martinez is very passionate. Definitely one of the best teachers I had at Ohlone. Did an amazing job at adjusting to Covid-19 and my favorite thing about him is his honesty. He wants your raw unedited opinion which is not something that most teachers want. Amazing and genuine.
Great class! If you have a general interest in this class and are willing to participate every time, you will do great. This class is very enjoyable and interesting. Teacher is organized and assigns weekly homework assignments that are very strait forward.
Professor Martinez is by far the best history teacher Ive ever head. I recommend you do show up to class, the lecture is long but worth it, you will learn so much. He will call you on so pay attention. He is very laid back and funny! You can be yourself and speak freely about your views. You write an analysis every week, theyre about 2-3 pages.
Professor Martinez has a real passion for teaching, and it shows! He is knowledgeable and passionate about history. His lectures are engaging, and the class discussions are highly interactive with inputs and insights being shared. He makes you want to come to class to learn about the course material. He is a great professor!
I learned a lot in this course and it was very enjoyable. If you pay attention and do your homework, it should be a pretty easy course to pass.
Professor Martinez is really passionate about the subject matter he teaches, which really make his lectures enjoyable. He'll call on names because he really wants to hear your opinions and thoughts. The different perspectives from everyone makes the class fun. Do the work, participate and you will do fine!
This is my second class with him. Since all classes are online now, he did a great job keeping the class consistent with what it would be like in person for class. I like that the class is broken up between lecture, articles, and videos. Participation is key.
First time taking a course with Professor Martinez and he is passionate about the subject matter he teaches. He respects and cares about his students opinion. So be ready to participate in class. For homework, we would write a 2-3 page analysis relevant on that week. Even though this was a 3 hour class I was never bored.
Professor Martinez is very passionate about what he teaches and loves to hear his student's opinions during open discussions. I highly recommend taking his class, he is very organized with his lectures and homework. Participation is very important in his class so be prepare to be called on. Overall I enjoyed his class and would take it again.
This is the second course Ive taken thats been taught by Professor Martinez, and he is phenomenal. He teaches you with a passion. He creates a safe space to learn about the true experience of POC and black people in the U.S. He has expanded my knowledge and my passion to learn.
Professor Martinez is by far one of the best teachers I had. He is very understanding and he cares about the subject he teaches. He brings to light the real problems in the United States that are hidden. His class is very interesting and educational.
Professor Martinez class is one that you will enjoy and take with you out of it towards the end with heavy but insightful knowledge about Chicano History. You will come to enjoy going to class every day to see what he will be teaching next. Really good class that you do not want to miss out taking!
Professor Martinez class was very eye opening experience for me. He likes to hear your opinion and will answer your questions if you are confused. His lessons are engaging and interesting and I looked forward to his class every week. I developed a more open mind after his class. You could tell that he enjoys teaching and really cares.
Professor Martinez is truly an inspirational teacher. You can tell he has a lot of passion for his work. He cares about his students and is willing to go above and beyond to help them succeed in his class. He has the ability to keep students engaged (even through virtual learning) with his amazing lectures.
He is definitely a professor that has a wide range of knowledge on Chicano studies and the various subcategories within this subject. His lectures are very intriguing and give you further insight that can help you when completing homework. Additionally, he has clear grading criteria would definitely recommend taking him!
Professor Martinez is one of Ohlones finest instructors, as well as the best. I am so glad I had the opportunity to have him as an instructor twice, I have learned so much from Professor M. He will shift your entire outlook on classwork/ lectures, so Beware, because, you will find yourself happy, educated, and not wanting to miss any session
I have taken his 101A class last semester, and every time I found out something new, he is very informative about global topics and issues and really wants his students to see what the news covers up or what politicians are doing. His class can be very controversial but not to anger his students but to inform them about what's happening around us.
There are pros and cons to this class. He is truly passionate of the material and it radiates throughout the semester. However, since the class meets once a week, lectures were long with no break as well. The homework was easy as long as you read the article or chapter he would assign. P.S. Some of the material can be a bit triggering.
Professor Martinez is a great teacher, I have taken him twice for both parts of Chicano History. He is very accommodating if you just let him know what is going on. Great and informational lectures, he really initiates realistic conversations in class. You must read the assigned chapters because he will ask about your thoughts in class. 10/10!!!
You can tell he cares a lot about teaching. The class was very interesting and he relates a lot onto why we need to learn from history and why it is relevant today. As long as you show up to the lectures you will pass and learn a lot!
One of the best professor's I've taken so far in my two years here at Ohlone. He is a very lecture heavy teacher so be ready to pay attention as his class is particularly very long (3 hours). His teaching skills are superb and will keep you interested in the class unlike other professor's whose lectures are just straight up curriculum. Si se puede!
He keeps you engaged in class so do your readings and be ready to discuss the material. Be on time! Participation is tied in with attendance. Expect homework weekly but if you do your reading that should come easy to do. I enjoyed his lectures so Im taking another one of his classes next semester. I would definitely recommend his classes.
Professor Martinez does an outstanding job with teaching his lessons and making sure his students understand the subject that is being discussed. He is very helpful and is very passionate about what he is teaching. I have learned a lot since being in his class because he brings up topics that are usually not discussed.
This class you have to participate in or your grade will definitely suffer. It was one of my favorites, learning so much about the type of history they don't teach in grade school. Having a professor who is passionate about the history made it alot more interesting but be weary, the material is triggering and sensitive. I definitely was teary eyed.
Professor Martinez was a really great professor. History isn't really one of my great areas but with his passion and lectures, I was able to understand a lot of material that was covered which is really great. Overall it was an interesting class with a lot of heartbreaking material. I would recommend his class.
Class was great, very informative and passionate dialouge is expressed as you learn about Chicano history but not only that but people of color in general. los of reading amd writing is onvovlved but content is more valued that grammar in these writing. Would highly suggest taking course.
Professor Ernesto Martinez is the best choice for the Chicano history class. He had great lectures that helped me learn a lot, he always makes sure that everyone in the class participates. He also cares about his students. Make sure that you like to read and write a lot It's not bad though because he is not a harsh corrector.
Professor Martinez has to be one of the best professors, his lectures are interesting and you learn a lot about Chicano history and about American history itself. He is super caring, understanding, and really connects with his students. There is literally nothing I would change about this class.
One of the best professors at Ohlone, very well spoken and knowledgable, and makes class fun. Make sure you do your weekly reading assignment and analysis on time and you're good for the class. Participation matters, we have discussions on what we read!
Really kind and caring professor. He is smart and good at communicating and teaching over the online class. Generous grader and very helpful and easily approachable. It is clear that he is passionate about the subject and accommodates to every students needs. I personally learned a lot from this class. He wants his students to participate a lot.
Professor Martinez is a great professor. He is very fair; attend, participate, and do your weekly writing assignments and youll be just fine! Youll also learn so much from him, there were so many things that I did not know that I have learned because of taking his class. He is also very understanding and willing to work with everyone!
Mr. Ernesto is a very good teacher. He is very good at explaining and putting things in perspective. The difficulty I found was the class was really long, so hard for me to focus and a lot of information to process. He is very fair and always makes class interesting.

I had a great experience in this class. Professor Martinez is a passionate professor who cares about his students. He gives great lectures and provokes critical thinking throughout his discussions. My advice would be to read the textbook! Be prepared with notes of the book because you will be asked questions. Participation is very important!
Professor Ernesto's class was fun to be in. It is a very engaging class and you never know when you will called on, so I recommend to pay attention. We do weekly writing analysis on either our book or a pdf he gives. Professor is a pretty easy grader and he does expect you to participate. I do wish for a 10 minute break tho.
Professor Martinez is a really interesting professor to have. He is very passionate about what he teaches and really wants his students to get a better understanding of the topics he covers. I have never had a teacher that actually takes his time to make sure students really understand what he covers in class. Overall great class to take.
Professor Martinez is the most laid back professor I've ever had. As long as you do the weekly readings and analysis', and participate in class, you will have nothing to worry about. He is understanding and his lectures are informative and interesting with lots of videos and articles. I highly recommend him!
Professor Martinez is a wonderful teacher and is very helpful with everything you need to pass his class. He will help you with whatever you need and is a wonderful person, he is very easy and is very educated and knows what he is doing. I recommend everyone to take his class.
Prof. Martinez is a great professor, really passionate about the subject. His lectures are great & he keeps you engaged throughout class, & you really learn a lot. He will answer questions with a lot of detail & is really helpful. There is quite a bit of reading/writing but the material is very interesting. You will leave with a new perspective.
Professor Martinez was an amazing professor. I took this class due to credits but I don't regret taking it. It was a really interesting class. I like how Professor Martinez adds videos into his lectures as it helps me personally better understand what's going on vs just reading about it. Attendance is important in his class!
Professor Martinez is one of the best teachers I've had at Ohlone, the man is very passionate about his classes and it shows. I wasn't sure of what to expect from a Chicano studies course but Professor Martinez opened my eyes to so much. if you plan on taking this course be prepared for a decent amount of weekly reading and writing.
I highly recommend Professor Martinez. He's a wealth of knowledge and is passionate about history. His lectures are intriguing, informative, and he ensures his students understand the topic at hand. Participation is a must so be ready to share your thoughts. He's accommodating, available, and fair. Would take another of his classes!
Great professor and not only gives lectures but also has students participate, as well as discussing topics on assignments due the day of class. If you're looking to get 12 credit semester, I recommend Professor Martinez. Also a good class if you're interested in Chicano history as well, as reading assignments gives insight to lectures.
Professor Martinez is a great professor who has a lot of knowledge about the subject. He gives great lectures with articles and videos. He makes sure everyone is participating and has a chance to speak. Each week we were given one chapter or article to read and were to write an analysis on it. Then in class, we would discuss it.
Professor Martinez is really enthusiastic about his classes and subject matter. Though the lectures were long, they were really easy to follow along with and understand. His enthusiasm made the class enjoyable. He is accommodating when need be, and overall a superb professor to have.
Professor Martinez is one of the best professors that I have taken. He has very simple guidelines about the class, all you have to do is the weekly assignments and participate in the lectures. He opens your mind more to reality and gives you the true knowledge behind the history we were told as kids. I recommend his class 100%.
I really appreciate and respect Prof. Martinez because you could tell he was passionate and interested in what he was teaching rather than just seeing a class day as getting through another lesson plan and reading word for word over slides. Which helped keep my attention during a 2 hr class.
Professor Martinez is awesome! His Chicano study's course was definitely mind opening. Junior Highs and High Schools tend to censor & leave out a lot of what happened in history, not professor Martinez. He brings a lot of issues to light and I appreciate that. Thank you for an awesome semester professor.
Professor Martinez is great because he is very passionate about his job and wanting to make this world a better place. This class was very eye-opening for me because I learned a lot of stuff that I previously did not know before taking this class. Homework isn't hard, the professor is very chill and not strict.
Professor Martinez is great because he is very intense about it and wanting to make this world a better place. He brings to light the real problems in the United States that are hidden. You will come to enjoy going to class every day to see what he will be teaching next. A really good class that you do not want to miss out taking!
Professor Ernesto is a GEM!! he's one of the best I've ever taken. I learned a lot about Chicano history and American history as well. Its not too much homework. He really values quality over quantity which I love. He super understanding considering it being online. I HIGHLY suggest that if you can take his class you won't be disappointed!
Professor Ernesto is the best advice I would like for you to go to. He's very patient and loves to help students that are struggling in the needs of help. I say reading and paying attention will make this class easy. He loves for us to participate in class by reading or answering questions. I struggled to speak but helped me to get out my shell.
Professor really gets into our brains and make us understand the difficulty and hardships Mexican Americans had gone through. It makes me remind of the struggle and hardship my country had also gone through and becomes inspirational to know that when you stand up for something right, eventually good things do happen. He helps us understand.
As long as you show up, pay attention and just really show that you can grasp the class Mr. Martinez can and will teach you a lot. He's very passionate, gives great feedback and is very honest. I would suggest taking him if you want a hands on approach to learning about Chicano studies. He'll leave you with a spark for learning more about it.
Professor Martinez has a wonderful teaching style where class participation allows a discussion to take place and your interpretations of readings and lectures to be voiced. He also does a great job in helping you think more critically to better understand the history of Chicanos. Show up, participate and do your homework: you will love this class!
It's clear that Professor Martinez is very passionate about his work. He is also very clear and helps break down difficult topics for the class and has good lectures. Professor Martinez plays lot of documentary clips and videos, but keeps it engaging by asking the class for their insight, rather than just hit play and call it a day. Take his class!
He is extremely passionate about the history of Chicanos studies. By far the most worthy professor you will ever encounter. You will not regret taking his class because you will actually learn so much from him. If you want to better your educational path then I highly recommend taking his course. What an honest gem he is!
This is my second time taking this professor, his teaching style is collaborative with his students. He reaches out randomly to students to make sure everyone is active and attentive in class, good conversations come out of the interactions. He relates a lot of what we're learning in the textbook to real life. Homework is light and straightforward.
I highly recommend this professor. Class was long, with no breaks, but it was only once a week in the evening. This professor loves questions and participation and he gives great feedback on every assignment.
Very understanding class , good professor .. I recommend taking this class if you need an extra class or overall need to take it. It isnt as bad as you think the 3 hours fly as he shows alot of videos.
Amazing professor, you will learn a lot in this class. Weekly papers and readings are due every week. Participation is a must. Overall amazing class.
I 100% recommend this class if you are passionate about chicano studies. I learned so many new things in this class & would definitely take his class again. He provides a lot of help and is super supportive in homework as long as you email and talk to him. take his class !!
professor martinez's was amazing. I learned so much about important topics about US's secret history towards Chicanos. He was easy, understanding and wanted to connect the coursework to real life in our lectures. Written assignments are easy too.
Professor Martinez is very understanding teacher who really cares about what he's teaching. I Would recommend this class to anybody looking to take a history class that isn't going to bore them to death. He also grades homework on a credit/ no credit basis which basically means you just have to do your work and show up to class prepared.
He is a great professor. I really enjoyed taking his class, you really learn a lot. As long as you go to class and are engaged in the class discussions and do the weekly homework assignments you will pass. If you take his class you won't regret it.
Really great class, very engaging, and straightforward grading that is reflective on class participation as well as weekly assignments. I don't think the class would have had the same effect on me if it wasn't led by Professor Martinez, and would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an enjoyable and inspiring class to take.
I really enjoyed professor Martinez class. This class is very eye opening and has allowed me to have discussions with my family about the past history of Chicanos. Get ready to read and write a lot, but its all worth it as you're able to retain more of the topic. I recommend this class to everyone, Prof. Martinez is very passionate about his job.
As long as you guys do your work you will pass easily. Show up, participate. It isn't that hard, easiest class so far! (He's working on his jokes)
Very good, in depth readings, and videos are worth paying attention to. Assignments are easy to get finished and class participation is required. He wants to get your opinion and thoughts after certain parts. But definitely worth taking this class
Class was super exciting and fun to attend.Learned so many new subjects, and dived into so many articles, movies, and books. Professor Martinez was an amazing teacher and made learning worth it. I would definitely recommend this class, and would take this class again.
This class is very simple. Weekly assignments and class participation are crucial to passing the class. There is a lot of reading and writing but overall Professor Martinez is a very easy grader.
I haven taken this class for the fall semester of 2022. Professor Ernesto Martinez is a very forthright serious instructor. Attendance is Mandatory. For my semester, His lectures were engaging and very emotion. lectures would be interactive as students would read paragraphs and be discussed with the class. Homework is just one essay per week.
Awesome professor with very engaging lectures. Very informative and interesting! 3-4 page weekly analysis and 2 big papers (a midterm and a final). Analysis are not difficult, but a little bit time-consuming. He grades very easily and it is hard to fail his class as long as you participate in lectures and do the assignments. Responds to emails too!
Great profesor. Helped me to get out of my confort zone
The professor's ability to teach is great. He is really able to grab your attention and not make the class boring. You do have to read but I find it helpful by being able to stay on course with the topics being discussed. All material is covered clearly and throughly you shouldn't have a hard time at all understanding the material. -Julian Barrera
Fun guy, but the class sort of felt like it meanders, and he mostly reads off/lectures off articles on the internet which really started to feel like a waste of time by the end of the semester. On the other hand, he does assign some interesting readings. Easy A, just do the tedious papers and participate and you'll be fine.
Professor Martinez was always helpful and he was able to teach the information well.
Great teacher, clear with what is expected, and allows for every class to be an open forum.
He is one of the most amazing professor at Ohlone. I highly recommend taking him if you need an extra history class.
This has to be one of my favorite teachers! It was a great learning experience and very easy if you keep up without the work! Lots of reading and essays, but easy to grade if you do the work! Class work was fun and lots of discussions amongst the class! Highly recommend!
By far one of my favorite classes I have taken. The lectures were interesting and he would go into further detail to explain. The homework is pretty straight forward, the instructions are clear. I would 100% re take this class again
Wonderful professor. Really knows how to teach, loves his subject and is easy to talk to.
My favorite class so far. Prof Martinez knows what he's doing and does it well. His structure of class and assignments were extremely organized and very easy to follow. This class is extremely informative and I have learned so many things. The material can be applied to real life as well. Overall, my favorite professor so far. I loved his class.
If you're a fan of history and a Latino/Chicano who wants to learn more about your history. You definitely should take this class. The lectures can be pretty long but they're interesting to listen to. Be prepared to hear disheartening things. There's a lot to go through. Sometimes, it could be overwhelming with the amount of information covered.
My favorite professor at Ohlone. Engaging lectures where he calls on everyone throughout. Not only is he an enjoyable professor but his class is straightforward and isn't too hard or doesn't require too much work to pass.
I loved Professor Martinez's lectures. He is super engaging and you can really tell that he enjoys teaching about Chicano/a History by how animated he is. It is a class that involves a lot of critical thinking. So be prepared for discussion and thought provoking information and questions. Quite a bit of reading and writing that will be happening.
Professor Martinez is amazing at teaching these courses as he uses his personal experiences to make his class easier to understand. He is not a hard grader and his assignments are easy to complete. Overall, its a fun class to take and makes you learn information that you never knew about.
Martinez is clearly passionate about the subject and conveys that every lecture. The content is heavy so be emotionally prepared, but the injustices he speaks on are worth mentioning. Show up to the class, and do the weekly writing to do well. He wants you to succeed just let him.
He is very understanding with circumstances and will be glad to help you in whatever way he can. The class was informative we spoke about topics that really have to make you think about history in a different way. You really have to be critical and learn to take information and be able to analyze prompts with the information you learn.
Prof Martinez brings the material to life with engaging lectures. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the readings and assignments. UnstuckStudy AI was a game-changer for study prep alongside the textbook.
