He is a good teacher...but all you need is to follow the directions. Not very helpful though, he expects you to get it on your own. The fun part about that class is the essays, they are fun to do. The topics given by him are interesting. And you need to read a comic book by the end of the semester. He is very much into superheroes!!!
though demanding(and despite that i think he should be less strict about deadlines), i thought his class was pretty fun. Rueda definately renewed my(then)long-dormant interest in comic book heroes, that's for sure. i loved that he showed a decent variety of movies in class(i.e. Heat,The Magnificent Seven). that said,i'd recommend him wthout a doubt.
even though there are deadlines for certains things, he's a great prof to begin with because he won't make something so intricate he couldn't handle. the grading scale is about average and the way he grades papers are more than fair; it's better than you thought your paper would turn out to be
he's okey to begin with. but if i were you, i wouldn't really take it a second time.
teaches clearly. but has something to prove to his peers. very difficult
A great teacher and really explains everything well but he expects you to work very hard. If you have other classes make his work your highest priority. If you don't get a good grade you didn't work hard enough to perfect your paper. He does strive for perfection from his students TAKE THAT SERIOUSLY.
good instructor, makes you figure things out on your own. creative, good sense of humor.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER A LIL WIERD, DOESNT LOOK HIS STUDENTS IN THE FACE BUT MORE CRYSTAL HE CANT BE. VERY ORGANIZED AND PUNCTUAL. A GOOD AMOUNT OF WORK BUT ITS FUN TO DO. BATMAN IS HIS WORLD AND YOU GET TO WATCH MOVIES HALF OF THE TIME AND READ COMIC BOOKS. GREAT CLASS. BETTER THEN OTHER TEACHERS AT WRIGHT.
Never answers any question. If you don't understand something "it is your problem." He never teaches anything because "everything is in the book." If you missed in class assignment/due date, YOU WILL LOSE A LETTER GRADE!! If English isn't your first language, he will make fun of you in the class. I don't even recommend him to my enemy.
I had three classes but this class was my fav. If you don't pass it's because you don't follow directions.
I had this teacher for both 101 and 102. A lil odd does not look at students in face but very smart and sarcastic. U'll get use to him I liked him. Hes really into Batman. Take him u'll have fun
I think the people with the negative comments for Mr. Rueda is because they did not pay attention or put effort in their work. Mr. Rueda was an excellent teacher. I loved his sarcastic and dry sense of humor, it made the class interesting. Although that is just an opinion, he does make you think which is a fact. He is not there to do your work.
Trust me when I say, ?don?t judge a book by its cover.? You?ll really learn a lot from him. He tells you exactly what you have to do to get a good grade. His class lessons are very thorough.By the end of the semester, you will know how to write a good research paper the right way which will really help you in the future for you're other classes.
This Professor is a extremely great one, his teaching techniques make the class fun while you learn. In this summer session as fast as it goes we learned soo much.Just follow the rules and you will be fine.I would reccomend this teacher to everyone. If you want to learn and enjoy class he is the man.Plus he is easy on the eyes.
This class was super fun ,,although don't underestimate his expected performance its a high level, you just need to follow instructions and you'll do perfectly fine, if your into Batman you have to take this class.I would definitely take another course with this instructor. Definitely recommended.
Not what I expected for an ordinary English teacher. I thought it was going to some old teacher with boring methods of teaching English. It was a very interesting class that I feel very lucky chosing to take it this summer. Fair warning, he does not give answer, but instead wants the student to figure out, and sarcastic, don't take it personal.
good, does make eye contact.
Intersting subjects, definitly knows material. Takes literature in a new direction.
It's awesome. A really fun class.
One of the best classes I have had at Wright. If you're interested in exploring the world of comics or want to see what your comic obsessed friends are always talking about, take one of his courses. It will be worth it. There are some papers, reading materials, and a few power points. Overall, a nice and balanced class.
Presents the literature of comics in a whole new perspective. You'll never look at comics the same again.Attendance and comic reading are mandatory since he gives presentations and he expects the papers to be very thorough. He's pleasant but not very hands on.So keep that in mind if you're the type to need extra help.
I enjoyed him as a teacher. He's somewhat hard to get along with, and strict about grades and due dates. Just pay attention, come to class, and have your work done on time...Do that and you'll have an A+!
The class is very straight forward just do your job. Read!!! there is no way of getting around it.The topic is exciting and the professor helps you see it in a new way. He is really passionate about the topic. He is not the most helpful, but the instructions are clear. If you really need help with witting I would suggest the writing center.
After getting a failing grade on the last 3 papers I asked him what I was doing wrong his response was. "I don't like your writing." Nothing more. If I didn't understand an assignment he would not explain and I once got the answer of "use quotes and stuff" He constantly made fun of me for asking questions in class. HORRIBLE teacher.
I had this teacher in 2004. As long as you turn in your work on time, attend class you will do well in class. He brings up interesting subject matters regarding fiction. Since English 102 is a reading extensive course be prepared.
I know many of you think the professor is rough, but I think he has everyone's best interest to pass English 102. Ernie is a FINE TEACHER! He means well, he is helpful in his own way. If you really need help then the writing center is the place!
He is definitely an acquired taste, but in a good way. the comics are really interesting making it easy to write papers on.
I'll say this, Professor Rueda is certainly more effective in teaching English 102 than Professor Perri is. At least he tells you what your mistakes are and how you can fix them. Plus, he at least has you read up on something fun and new with the compelling stories of comics. My papers get better and better, so I'm liking the results here.
What I like about Rueda's class:it's straightfoward & pretty self explanatory. All U gotta do is listen, follow his guidelines,& write perfectly formatted MLA papers.Simple as that.BTW,writing these Marvel/DC related essays R way more appealing than analyzing Shakespearean works(no offence 2 Shakespeare)U even get2 watch cartoon episodes(Batman)!!:)
Great class! if you show up, follow instruct. and learn MLA format you will pass! Rueda makes class interesting and fun, sweet guy! He brings new ideas to the table and makes learning more interesting. Fun personality, great smile, great eye contact while he is speaking to you.
Young, but do not let his youth catch you off gaurd. He is difficult to start, however the class is fun once you get the hang of MLA citation. Again, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HIM. If you do what he asks and how he asks you to do it, you will enjoy the class.
Very clear, very efficient, straight to the point and well taught. Gives a full mastery of the course, possibly the best class at wright community college
Professor Rueda's English 102 class was one of the most interesting classes I've had so far at Wright. He gives clear instructions and helpful assignments. Reading material is interesting, and he is passionate about it. Would definately recommend this teacher.
Professor knows very well what he wants from his students, it is a very fun class!
real cool, knows what he wants, very into comic books there pretty fun to read and you get to watch Batman episodes in class, really cute too
He is a good professor. Demands perfection but reasonable. If you really want to learn how to write a good MLA paper, I suggest to enroll in his class.
Not a bad class. He's very understanding and grades decent even if you're not the best writer. You need to know MLA format!
Took his class over the summer. If you take his instructions, and hims seriously he will take you seriously. He is a young guy but do not doubt his knowledge or ability. I knew nothing about MLA format, nor had interest in comics before but after this class I can honestly say i've gained from his class. -Chris
Best english 101 and 102 teacher. MLA format is required to know for this class. Very helpful, and he gives out handouts for everything explaining the writing assignment. Comic books are very interesting and fun! loved his class!
Took him a year ago for HUM. and I loved it. That course itself wasn't very hands on, but when we worked on a big paper, his advice was very clear and concise. Taking him again this year for English 102 because I wanted to have him as an English teacher. I know he'll help me really improve. I'll admit I may be biased because I like comic books.
This class is 2much fun!Its plenty of work,w/12bks to write 10 3pg papers on thru-out the sem,+ a 10pg paper, but w/practice,u master the way of the MLA! Obviously, the bad reviews r the ppl who're2 lazy to do the wrk b/c Mr.R is a lil intimidatin at 1st,but inside hes jus a big ol teddy bear. +Batman is way cooler to write bout than shakespeare =D
Good teacher with an extraordinary grasp of the subject. Zero tolerance for laziness (as there should be). Take his classes.
I was a little hesitant to take this class, but I am actualy happy that I did because Professor Rueda helped me write better and greater papers! He makes us masters of the MLA format! A lot of papers to write but if you put effort towards it, you will get what you deserve. It is a great class and great professor!
He's a cool guy and very laid back. He is there to help you if you ask for it and willing to go beyond the class. Overall very good teacher and knows his skills very well.
I registered for this class not knowing what to expect. I liked the description of the class using alternative methods of learning how to do a research paper so I registered. I have been pleased to not only successfully learn how to write a research paper but also learn a little more about the history of Batman through his extensive knowledge & t
I was required to take this class but I chose to take this course because I figured it would by interesting. I entered a Batman world but I enjoyed the class. Mr. Rueda is helpful, understanding, and his work is quite simple, but I didn't say it was going to be all an ease. Just make sure you have your MLA handbook; its your "Bible" (Rueda).
Easily, the best English class I have ever taken. Yes, Rueda can be tough, but if you take his class seriously you will excel. Don't waste your time if your looking for an easy A. It won't be easy, but it will be rewarding.
Being in his class enlightened me to the world of Batman. It was fun and very interesting to write stories on The Dark Knight. The language of Shakespeare can be challenging to understand. He was always willing to help. A very enjoyable class to understand and succeed in. Give it a shot you will like it.
Not only is the class subject matter awesome, but you actually improve as a writer too. I noticed improvement each time I got a paper back. Rueda is awesome, and he helps you help yourself. If you like a challenge and enjoy working towards a grade you can be proud of, take this class. Don't underestimate Rueda and don't be lazy and you'll pass.
An overall great class taught by a great teacher. As long as you get your work done on time, you shouldn't have to hard of a time getting good grades on papers. The class taught me more about Batman than I already knew!
I was dreading this class because I loathe research papers but it is like any other class. You respect the professor he respects you. You do the work you get the grade you earned.
I had a great time in his class. Listen to the lessons and instructions, turn it work when its due and you'll do great. Mr. R. is quick at finding corrections needed on your paper to get you that A. He even caught one reading the paper upside down. Awesome class
Easily my favorite professor so far. He's helpful but will never spoon feed anyone the answers, so keep that in mind. The papers are not very long: most are 2-3 pages except for a longer 9+ page paper near the end of the class. A solid knowledge of MLA format helps, cause he's a stickler for details. Oh, did I forget to mention Batman?
Batman, Batman, Batman, that is the subject of the class. It's awesome never really was interested in graphic novels now i read them with an ease. Great teacher but you have to put in work if you want a good grade. I definitely recommend taking this teacher unless you want to write a 9 page paper on hamlet.
Mr. R is definately a strange one, but he was a cool teacher. Although his love of Batman is..well an obsession, he wasn't like most teachers who choose a boring topic to write about. I normally hate to write papers, but I LOVED his class. I wish I could take another class with him, but sadly I passed English 102.
very fun class
Great professor. Thanks to this class i perfected the art of writing papers in MLA format. Don't underestimate him, he knows weather you are putting effort or not. And provides help when you're not, like a good professor should. Don't expect easy handouts, but if instructions are followed expect a good grade...
I took the class this summer. It was fun, easy and he was really helpful
Take him, he's the best! You'll actually leave this class w/the knowledge you'er suppose to. Then compare your first critical analysis to the your final one. Not to mention, easy on the eye.
Professor Rueda is the best. He is great at at what he does. I really enjoyed his class. His class is very straight to the point. You do the work and you'll get the grade you deserve, it's that simple. He's young, so he'll see right through all of your bs and will not tolerate it. This is by the far one of the most enjoyable class AND educational.
The coolest instructor EVER! Challenging class, but he is really helpful and answers your emails the same day. thank you!
This teacher is the best! Not only does he care about what he teaches but he is a master of it. His class is difficult in the sense that his expectations remain high for his students and he is a fountain of help to those who are willing to search for it. I recommend this teacher to anyone that is serious about their education.
I think good English professors are hard to come by, which is why I totally recommend Prof. E. For a class like this, I this I think it's most important to note that he's willing to help. Don't be afraid to ask! While he's not a pushover, he is very kind. He wants students to learn, he's good at instructing, funny and kind of a hottie.
This guy is a interesting character. His class was all Batman related. I have no interest in Batman but its better then reading other books. He has a diffrent way of teaching but its a good way. He does insult some people but still a good teacher. Put effort and you will pass. You write about 6 papers 2 pages each and a BIG 10 page final.
Definately not an easy class if you don't do the work or show up! The MLA citation book is your world use it for all assignments. WE GET TO STUDY BATMAN! HOW COOL IS THAT! Give him everything he asks for nothing less nothing more and you will pass with an A, we even get to watch cartoons in class! stay on his assignment schedule and you'll be fine
Good teacher
He's pretty nice. His class is easy enough if you don't slack. He is really invested that you do your best. I recommend taking his class if you are actually interested in learning how to write a real college paper unlike the others at Wright who just seem to only teach to get paid. Also, you become an expert in Batman by the end of the semester.
Understanding Ernesto Rueda in the beginning of the semester is kinda hard. But I Gota tell you don't give up. I almost dropped his class after the first day but I stuck with it and got a B. really good class, and he becomes a way better teacher as the days pass
He's an okay teacher. He doesn't really teach and you need to do a lot of research. I got a high grade but because I was diligent enough to research the stuff I don't know and do all the work.
Ernesto Rueda is amazing! You learn how to write while also learning about Batman. He is very helpful and he cares about his student's success, but he expects you to work hard. If you want to enjoy English 102, then I recommend taking his class.
I'm not going to lie this class is very time consuming and stressful, but you learn so much stuff on how to write papers and cite them. Ernesto is very helpful if you ask questions so keep asking them. Although its a difficult class he is one of the best teachers I've had and I recommend anyone who's serious to take him. Plus it's all about Batman
This class was pretty nice, it takes a while before you get used to things but when you get the hang of it its smooth sailing. Attendance is must because you meet only once a week. START YOU FINAL PAPER AS SOON AS POSSIABLE or you will regret it !!!!!!
Honestly one of the best English teachers I've come across. He is challenging only if you don't know what you're doing followed by not asking for assitance. He is superly helpful regardless of his sarcasm, which is actually hilarious if you understand the language of humor. Overall, great professor I recommend him to everyone.
This was the BEST English class I have ever taken! Mr. Rueda focused on Batman and knows everyone loves Batman. The class is very straight forward and fun. Mr. Rueda is very helpful and I would definitely take another one of his classes.
Not for the faint of heart. This class will challenge you in MLA and how well you can incorporate information into your own language and style. It's a plus if you like/ love/ are obsessed with Batman. Rueda is kind of like the Riddler so be prepared to think outside the box. Don't over think it though, sometimes the answers are right there.
He's smart and tries to help in his own way by walking around and looking over your shoulder but will make you feel very uncomfortable for asking.
AMAZING Professor. Very helpful and willing to spend as much time possible for the student to earn an A. I recommend you take his classes and spend time working on the essays because he will get you if you plagiarize. He is obsessed with Batman and at the end of the course you will be too.
If you can, def. skip Rueda. He managed to transform interesting topic into dull and tedious one. Doing this class 100% online wouldn't make a difference as Rueda doesn't transfer any of his enthusiasm to class audience. What a shame! There is no dialog, no communication during class time or on wiki-it's like he mutes his students. Disappointed.
Ha! I shouldn't even call this person a professor nor a teacher! No help what so ever! He literally dropped me for missing 2 assignments (Not even an essay, was for homework), when the others were a "B." Worst of all no warning or second chances, like. He likes to look over your shoulder and makes other feel timid. Avoid this teacher by all means!
This class uses comics, shows and movies of Batman for it's course material; which is better than reading something you have no interest in. He shows you everything you need to do and even lays it out on the his page, all you have to do is follow what he says. You will learn MLA format and how to wtite, which is what English 102 is supposed to do.
I do not recommend this class. Essays are difficult to write because there isn't much you can write about Batman. I dont know how the school allows him to teach such material. In fact he does not teach much, whenever a question is asked he tells us to go to the wiki and ignores the question. You can tell he hates his job
I took this class in Fall 2014. It was a really bad experience. Mr. Rueda does not teach. He is passionate about Batman, but not about students' progress. Seems he is in the class just because he has to. Over the shoulder he corrects several of your mistakes and that is his personal touch. Don't get hooked on interesting topic. You'll regret.
I wouldn't recommend this prof to anyone. He doesn't teach. He simply tells you to write a particular type of essay without giving you any type of parameters. This leaves the student googling how to write XXXX type of essay. Also, he's very rude, often publicly belittling students who made mistakes. I received an A in the class, also a headache..
You do not benefit from this class, and teacher does not teach. Total disconnection. I signed up for the class because of the topic and the time class was meeting, but regretted.
This class was a bad experience. All you will get is that Rueda will come to quickly check your work over your shoulder and give you few corrections to create impression of being helpful and concern about everybody, when it is absolutelly opposite. The atmosphere he creates in the classroom is screaming:"I don't want to be here!". Avoid if you can.
Nice topic, MLA format, 5 essays plus 10-page final, 4 works cited assignments, you will watch animated movies. No instructions. Instructor acts like an arrogant manager rather than teacher. There is no point in attending classes. Peer reviews designed to minimize need for instructor's effort. I did not like this class.
If I only knew, I would never end up in Rueda's classroom. I guess it would be O.K. as web based class as he is great with replying to emails, but it is not fun dealing with his (ugly) attitude that starts from day one-before he even gets to know you. Seems like he is bursting of frustrations that he unloads in the class.
I assume many students do not like Mr. Rueda because he expects his students to actually do their work correctly and not blow off his class. He is very clear on what he expects. He is very clear on where to look in the MLA Handbook for citations and format. His demeanor is mysterious and may seem intimating, but he is helpful and a good teacher.
Rueda is an excellent professor who very knowledgable and very helpful. What I liked about the professor the most is that he made us practice to the final paper. You do write 7 papers or so, but they are only 2 pages and were practice essays for the final paper and it really helped out alot. Rueda is the coolest teacher ever!
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST! might sound fun because of the fact that it's batman related but it is nothing of what it seems like. Rueda is constantly in a bad mood every week and is vague about what he wants on his papers. Yeah, ask him a question about something you don't get and he'll either answer you with another question or sarcastic answer
Simply bad. You would think comic books would lead you to exciting and fun class, but it was quite opposite. Professor makes class awkward, an class is not beneficial in any way.
I expected a lot. Did not like this class. No learning climate in the class. Lacks discussions and communication between professor and students. Rueda was on occasions even unpleasant.
I really enjoyed the class and the professor. He was straightforward & expected us to do our part:follow directions, attend class, and turn in our assignments. Open class discussions would've been helpful, but I did receive awesome help from the writing center, different views within peer reviews,& comments from the prof. that helped me.
Chose an interesting theme for the semester that was entertaining to write about.
What i like about Rueda is that he make us, really think for ourselves. Some fail to see that he isn't trying to be mean, he just want us to think on our own. This class isn't for everyone, but if you take criticism well and are willing to work hard and learn this is a class for you. The fact that you get to read comics is also pretty cool.
Took this class in Fall'13. Wish I did not. Batman being cool doesn't make this class cool. Subject and teacher are in complete disharmony. Rueda does not provoke or encourage critical thinking; he hardly DOES anything besides popping DVDs into player. On each of your papers he does not spend more than 3-4min. Likes belittling less skillful
This class was not structured well. Great topic, but class does not offer any valuable content. Professor plays videos, he peeks over your shoulder and corrects few mistakes he spots in your work, you spend a lot of time in peer reviews that were not too helpful, and that's all. My impression is that Rueda is not mean, but has no gift for teaching.
Surprisingly bad class. But hey, some lessons you learn hard way.
I did not like this class. I liked batman but could not see much benefit from the class. Empty. Useless. Professor is just not there. Pushes ppl to writing center to create traffic in that department, and insists on peer reviews to minimize his work. Does not look like he cares for student's progress. Great with emails - would be ok online course
It is how it is when professor can't wait to get out of the class. I should have skipped on this experience.
He is a very fair professor. If a student attends class and puts forth the effort, they will receive the grade they desire. you also have an opportunity to improve your writing skills, while receiving interesting assignments. I recommend taking this coarse if you intend to attend class, and participate in the peer reviews.
This instructor taught me so much about life, mostly how to be smarter when signing up for classes. He encouraged critical thinking in a sense of a question: how critical will be condition of my mental health if I have to endure one more 1hr20min session of this class? Lots of lurking from the darkness n pushing others into it without hesitation.
A good teacher is passionate & knowledgeable on the topic they teach. It was interesting to see how Mr. Rueda incorporated Batman into this course. He is easy going & pushes you to think on your own. He expects you to attend class, follow directions & turn in assignments. At the end of the course you will be an enhanced critical thinker & writer.
Considering the topic class was disappointing and dull. Professor is awkward and moody. If I could choose again I would not sign up for this class.
Plastic class atmosphere. Fake. Uninteresting. No lectures (which does not mean it should be a bad thing, but in this case, it is). Nothing at all. Just uncomfortable peeking over your shoulder. Pushing to writing center. If you still end up in class, books are cheaper with Barnes&Noble regular discounts than in recommended comics book shop.
Ernesto was not an easy teacher at all! However, he teaches you everything you need to know to be ready for the bigger stuff. I have transferred to Depaul University an I cannot thank him enough for the learning experience I had. Read all the comic books, go to the writing center, and have him personally revise it and you'll pass! Hard but worth it
Ha, hybrid course! 50% online is used only for Rueda posting assignments, essay topics and few guides so he does not have to speak. The other 50% of class time he will use to press 'play' button. That's pretty much it. When he speaks, it's nasty. Replies to emails remarkably quickly. Suggestion: rather take any of theGreat Books classes than this.
Poor class quality. Promising topic. I would recommend to skip it. There are better classes out there, especially in English department.
Not tough grader, but annoying stickler. Friendlier prior to midterm evaluation, that tells you enough about character. Does not give good feedback. Insists on participation, but participation does not truly matter. Ridiculous extra credit. No lectures. I would never take it again.
This class should be 100% online. Class sessions are useless.
A friend convinced me to take a course studying comics with him - I really wasn't interested but I ended up loving the class. Rueda gave me an A; I enjoy writing papers & he assigns a lot in his classes. He is a wonderful teacher & is very clear on what you need to do to pass. One of the best teachers I ever had at Wright.
Great class. He is a very tough professor but everything you need is found online. Not once did I email him during the class because all i needed I could find on his site. This is truly a class where you earn your grade and prepares you for a 4 year university. Slackers should not take this class which i assume most of your complaining are.
Simply, waste of time. This professor would never pass basic communication class. Weird. Avoids eye contact. It should not be enough just to be smart to be given position of a lecturer.
Well, almost unbearable. The worst thing is that sometimes it seemed that prof. Rueda shared this same feeling about the class. I liked the topic, but instead of being inspirational, class somehow downgrades it. Anyway, the only good outcome for me was reconnecting with comics. Would I recommend taking it ? Absolutely not!
I don't feel class was beneficial-haven't noticed any improvement in my writing technique and style or change of any views which would make this class worth taking. Professor is smart, but teaching wise below average. Makes lame jokes and does not deliver much. He is easy on grading - no high expectations there. Peer reviews are utterly useless.
Probably one of the worst professor I've ever had. He is rude, inconsiderate, and does not tell you anything about the assignment. Basically this class was just awful! He does not grade paper, you peer reviewers do, and then he tells you the paper is wrong! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT INTO BATMAN! so stupid! it was such a waste of time!
I was so relieved once this torture of ignorance, and nothingness was over. I am still in shock with how little work Rueda gets away. Is there anybody evaluating quality of classes and instruction at this place? It does not seem so. Even as a stretch it is not worth $20 per class period that I payed for at Wright.
This professor is like a really bad actor trying to mimic those good ones. After initial excitement, I regretted taking this class. English course at this level has to be way better.
I actually had a big disagreement with this guy in class, in front of everyone. More like I called him out on something about our first paper. I was not nice, but decided not to drop the class because I did not want to loose the money. So, I stuck it out and worked hard. I ended up with an A and felt he treated me fairly despite our differences.
If you're a lacker and looking for an easy breezy professor this is not a class for you. You will have to invest alot of time into reading and writing! He's difficult to talk to but for the most part he's okay. Not an easy class but it's possible if you work hard.
I failed his class and came back for a reason. It is hard if you don't show up, if you can't learn from mistakes, and if you have trouble following clear systematic guidelines. Take Ruelas class to make writing a mistake free MLA research paper and works cited second nature. Finding true meaning in overlooked sources (Batman) is an empowering plus.
If you are willing to put forth maximum effort then Rueda is the right teacher for you. All the answers are in the textbook, and if you can't find it after looking on your own, he will help you if you ask. Read his book forwards & backward and learn from the examples in the book and you will succeed. He is a great teacher if you give him a chance!
I have to say this class was the hardest one I have ever taken. However it is by far the best one in terms of fairness I have taken. I have never met a teacher more fair than him. When he tells you that he gives you everything you need to pass he means it. My grade was the way it was because I didn't use everything to my advantage. 10/10 Recomended
This was by far one of the most rigorous courses I have ever taken. This is a class that requires your 100% effort and dedication. What I appreciated about Professor Rueda was how challenging and transparent he was about his expectations. He will critique you pretty harshly, but it will certainly make you a better writer! PS. he LOVES the Joker!
He's arrogant, condescending & blunt to a fault & quite possibly the best professor I've ever had. Here's a tip, go to class, listen to what he says about the book & do the work. Once you figure out what he's looking for, the rest of the class becomes a breeze as its all given for you in 6 pages of the book. BTW, I hope you like Batman comics.
Very poor professor. He's rude and impatient. Please do not waste your time and take another class. He is not clear with the homework he gives you. He's also very strict with misspelling and WILL deduct major points off any error you have on any assignments.
This professor is rude. He is never clear on assignments. Any questions you have ask him his response is always READ MY BOOK! Its so sad that he still as a job at this college. Do not take his class! He excepts you to know how to do his assignments with no examples or proper guidelines. Again save yourself and do not take his class!!
This is by far the most mediocre class I have ever taken. I learned nothing from the course and my writing did not improve. Most people who don't have a problem with this course are genuinely smart and are very good writers to begin with but everyone else who struggles with writing or is not passionate about writing i do not recommend.
Professor Rueda is tough. He has his own rules on EVERY assignment you have to do. If you dont follow he will deduct major points. Hes very strict with his grading and wont give you much feedback. Good luck if you decide to take him. Youll need it.
Contrary to some of the reviews on here, I found this class to be super straight forward. If you need guidance, look at the book. Need some feedback for a paper? Shoot him an email. There has not been a single time where he didnt give feedback for me when I emailed him. He makes it SO easy to get an A. Take advantage of all the resources you have.
Its really hard to talk to him. He does not give good feedback. He is also unclear with what he wants and very confusing at times.
If you can't handle a challenge this class isn't for you. When he tells you to use the book it does help you just need to learn how to use it. He is always more then willing to help by email or office hours. His feedback is helpful. If you don't find it helpful you most likely don't understand what he wrote. He made me a better writer. Thank you!
Ernesto is good guy and he does help if you ask but he has really high expectations for you too meet. This can be a challenge for some people especially if you struggle with writing
Do not take this guys class unless you are up for a very challenging semester. Instructions are confusing and vague and harsh grading. Just don't also he makes you buy his own book and is obsessed with Batman.
As many comments say, this class IS very challenging. This semester we started w/ 20 so students and ended with about 7 or so. The professor is very picky about the works cited and the way you quote from the stories. The essays aren't that difficult to write if you actually try. As long as you follow his instructions then you'll be ok.
He's a great professor, he's very detailed with assignments. He always gives instructions prior to assigning the work. If you follow directions on assignments you'll be okay. Also turn things in on time, and be ready and prepared for class. Professor Rueda is very strict on works cited, also he gives times for peer reviews and gives extra credit.
Tough grader but fair. As long as you do your work as he wants, everything will be fine.
Prof Rueda doesn't care about your personal opinions. He cares if you came to learn. He comes off harsh but his class is extremely straight-forward. Do what he says, EXACTLY how he says it needs to be done & do the work. If you can follow instructions, his class quickly becomes easy. Also, Batman is awesome!
He flirts with female students and if you don't accept his advances he starts giving you bad grades. Easy grade when you go to the head of the department and complain, but then he tried calling me out in class that I just need to do my work instead of complain. I assume “the work” he meant was him. Disgusting.
