most pompous and arrogant teacher i've met
No Comments
His class was the post-lunch nap time.
Class structure is good, very possible to get a solid B maybe A
i couldnt stand to listen to him say 'mekanizmumz' (mechanisms) every day---hes an odd professor and basically speaks verbatum on what is in the textbook---read the chapters and u can ace the course
Reads the book to you and makes his assistants do all of the work. Don't bother going to his office hours.
A really nice teacher that genuinely cares about his students
He is one of my favorite teachers at ISU! He is so enthusiastic about what he teaches. I would highly reccomend anyone take his class!
Awesome teacher!
Annoying, flamboyant
I LOVE HIS ACCENT! He is very colorful. He made the class a lot of fun. I wish I had him for other psych classes. I would strongly recommend taking his class. You will love it.
Remember Balky from Perfect Strangers? That's what his accent sounded like. His voice was the comic drumroll of the class.
A great lively professor who tries very hard to help his students. A fair and helpful prof, this one.
Good teacher. He goes over a lot of info. each class so its important to go plus you need to read the chapters. As long as you know your class notes the tests arent that challenging.
AWSOME teacher. Fun, imformative class. Have to attend all classes though if you want to get a good grade.
This is a really easy class just use the mallard quizzes to study for the tests
Great teacher! Funny, intersting, and energetic. He made sure that you understood fully what he was presenting. As long as you keep up with the readings and take all the quizzes you'll do well in this class.

Great teacher alot of fun, but does not accept any bull from anyone.
He's okay. I got really annoyed with his ghetto overheads that were so tiny you couldn't even read them tho. He was entertaining at times but some of the lectures were really boring. The class isn't bad if you keep up w/ the quizzes & skim thru the reading. Some of the chapters were more difficult than others, they start out easy but get harder!
This is one of my favorite teachers. Classes are easy if you do what he reccomends. I think his teaching is very clear. Take his classes!
Definitely entertaining at times. The class is not hard at all if you review notes and take advantage of the online quizzes in webct.
Horrible teacher. Hard tests. Got out of line a lot, many rude comments. Weekly online quizzes, got harder as weeks went on. Doesn't listen to you when you try to talk to him. Four papers for the class. Goes through material way to quick, a chapter a week. I would not reccomend him. Class was boring.
I just squeaked by with a B by just doin all the online quizzes and studyin the packet you can buy for the class. The exams are pretty tough but if you get a decent grades the online quizzes will bump you up higher overall.
He is very entertaining, to say the least. He reminds me of the "YES guy" off The Simpsons (a Frank Nelson parody)."YESSS!?" The class was somewhat challenging. Make sure you read the text inside and out. The tests are hard.
He is ridiculous in a good way. You don't HAVE to go to class but if you do it helps and if you don't you have to read the book.
Eros is easily one of the best Psy professors I've had at ISU. He's VERY easy to talk to especially in 392 since there's only like 12 ppl in the class anyway. He does require 1 20-30 min presentation of an article of your choice. Tests=essay. Great guy, makes an effort to know his students and grades fair, get him for 392!
Definitely have to go to class unless you want to have to read chapters over 2 or 3 times to understand whats going on. Quizzes every week, 4 tests and no chance for extra credit at all not even in class participation. He is hard to understand at times and can easily turn 20 minutes of notes into 50 minutes of notes.
I have studied for his exams and cannot pass them. 30 percent of the class is failing. If you are not into psy dont bother taking this class, you will be so lost.
Great teacher! Super enthusiastic and full of character. Really funny in class he should be a drama major. Makes material interesting and loves sparking up class discussions. Easy class gives you all his powerpoints. Has a bit of a south american accent which is phenomenal! If you don't like accents don't take it
He is tough, but the class is interesting and so useful. In order to do well you have to attend every class and read all the chapters. If not, you will probably do poorly. He expects his students to work because this is college! If you are the type of person who skips class and crams, then this is not the class for you. Take something easier then.
If you plan on not going to class, you might as well give yourself an F. He is tough, but he is extremely straight forward and expects that you do what he asks...if you do, you will get an A. If you don't, you will struggle I promise you that
Great class. Tough professor but extremely intelligent and insightful. Didn't like him at first cause he was hard to understand and I thought he was a bit arrogant, but as I kept coming to class he kind of grew on me. He's definitely NOT arrogant and really cares about his students, but he believes that he can't help you if you can't help youself.

Dr. DeSouza is a very intelligent man. Although he is difficult to understand at times, the information is very interesting. His class consists of 16 online quizzes, which you'll need to use the book for. There are also 4 exams and he provides study guides. Good luck if you have to take a make up essay exam though, they're near impossible!
Really funny guy, going to class is pretty much crucial, tests are kind of hard but do-able if you study his notes. BUY HIS NOTES!! And do the online quizzes & review sessions.
Awesome teacher. He is hilarious. You need to read the book to do well on the exams. If you review his online quizzes a lot you will do well on his tests but his tests are still pretty hard. Take him if you get the chance. He's great
Pretty interesting guy, he is interactive so it helps. Read the book to get a better understanding of material.
Grades are online quizzes and exams only. He's very interactive and excited about what he's teaching. He shows videos every once in awhile to make things interesting. He always lets class out very early. Lecture and note intensive class.
brazilian
Good teacher, but a little over the top. Sometimes he gets so involved in an example it takes away from the lecture. He does not like if you leave early and might even call you out on it. But, he is a pretty good teacher...tests are hard so do the study guides and read the book. But overall, not a bad class.
Really passionate about the class, has interesting lectures but a lot of notes. Going to class is worthwhile but not completely necessary as long as you read the book and do the online quizzes. Tests aren't hard...you just have to study (like every other class...) I highly recommend this professor.
Amazing professor, he is extremely entertaining during lecture but don't be fooled, his tests are not a cake walk. I study a week in advance for every test and have received 88s on 2/4 test thus far. Required class for ISU but as long as you READ, do the quizzes, and go to lecture you should pass with at least a C. studystudystudy!
He was seriously one of the best prof's I've ever had. He is so entertaining in lecture and he always makes sure everyone understands a definition. Go to class! Because you will need the notes. Even if you read the book, you might miss out on notes. Need the book because it helps with the mandatory online quizzes. Highly recommend him!
I love this class! DeSouza makes everything very interesting. Although his accent can be a little difficult to understand. Go to class, take notes, and do yourself a favor and rent the book instead of buying it. You will need the book though.
Go to lecture, it helps in memorizing the information. That is all this class really is, route memorization... Be forewarned he is NOT flexible. What he outlines in his syllabus he will ABSOLUTELY stick to. Regardless of illness with a confirmed letter, etc. Which is frustrating Your grade is what YOU have earned, this will be thrown in your face.
Personality class was the most challenging class I have taken in college. It says something when the average final exam score was a D.
He is terrible. The class is rote memorization. He uses long, useless examples to explain slide after mind-numbing slide. He is condescending. He is self-absorbed. The class is sickeningly easy as is the book. If you fail it's because you didn't read or come to class. Don't waste your precious tuition on this. This is what's wrong with college.
One of the worst classes / professors ever. I started out fine, he was sort of entertaining, but as the weeks went on he quickly became more and more condescending and annoying. He acts like he's so nice and so great, but makes the TA do everything, and is so unclear with everything! I was failing, then I stopped going and taught myself and got a C
Eros DeSouza is by far one of THE WORST TEACHERS AT ISU!!!! He is extremely rude and condescending to students, and is boring and annoying to listen to in class. Either try your best to take this course with a different teacher, or skip class and teach yourself the material, it is NOT worth your time.
Very hard. I am typically an 'A' student and I recieved D's on the first two tests. You are only graded on four tests and other quizes so it is very hard to increase your grade when you start off with a D! He acts like hes a great teacher, yet sends you to the G.A. when you are confused and ask for help. Do Not Take Him.
DeSouza is by far my favorite professor. His class is my favorite class I've taken at ISU. People say his class and tests are hard, but they're only hard if you don't read. It's annoying to sit down and read, but you're in college. so get over it and read. Go to his office hours and he'll help you out. take his class!
He wants you to succeed, but he does come off condescending at the same time. Take his advice on the study guide, read, notes, come to class and you will get an A. He uses lots of good variety in lecture, but there is an overwhelming amount of information covered. It would be nice to be able to focus more on one segment of psy history.
320 is basically a history class. If you are someone like myself who would struggle with having your ONLY grades in the class be on 2 major tests and a couple of quizzes then don't take this class. You will take an INSANE amount of notes in his class, I'm talking like 5 or 6 pages a day and he will not slow down if you ask.
He is a very poor teacher, he gives 0 additional input or effort to help his students, no ec, score drops, curves. I had a funeral rite to perform and had to miss a test, so instead of taking the multiple choice test everyone else took he gave me a harder, open ended test, essentially punishing me for conducting some poor mans funeral rite
Professor DeSouza is extremely rude, he makes his students feel stupid and inadequate. He urges you to ask questions but makes you feel dumb when he gives you an answer. The course consists of 4 exams and online quizzes, no extra credit. The course material is easy, I would've just rather had a different instructor.
DeSouza can be really rude at times. His class isn't challenging as long as you fill out and study the reviews in the PIP packet that you need to buy btw. To do good, you must go to lecture everyday which can be tedious.
He is super rude, maybe the worst teacher I've taken. He's super weird and annoying. I can't take him serious. I asked him about my grade and he was very rude about it. i loved this corse but his teaching skills suck and he makes us sound like we are dumb. i wish i would of taken a different instructor. Oh and his accent makes it even harder.
To do well with DeSouza, GO TO CLASS!! He explains everything really well if you actually go, the only time I struggled was when I missed class. He is tough grader, so make sure you study, but the study guides in the PIP packet are helpful and if you attend lectures you should do well.
Hard to understand at times, attending class is mandatory to fill out the notes which is basically the test. Online quizzes are really easy and boost up your grade. The study guide and notes are exactly what the test is. Go to the review sessions. Hard tests but there is always extra credit at the end. Overall, a good enough professor and goodclass
Very interesting and zany. He seemed like a genuinely motivated and exciting professor at first, but proved to be very condescending and rude as time went on. He consistently belittles his students and has very poor listening skills when students ask him questions. His material is much easier than he tries to make it seem.
The lectures are usually interesting and DeSouza is very animated which will keep you engaged. He can be rude at times and his accent is occasionally hard to understand. Class attendance is really important so be sure to not miss many lectures because he does not post notes online.
He gives you a PIP Packet with skeleton notes of the lectures and powerpoint, but doesn't post them online so you have to go to lecture. He also gives you study guides He's super animated and energetic, which sometimes can be annoying but has good examples. Quizzes are weekly online and easy. Exams aren't too bad. If you pay attention you'll pass.
I was really excited for this class, but his bad attitude frustrated me so much I didn't want to listen to him. I just did the readings and quizzes at home and in class tuned in and out while on my laptop. He has fill in the blank notes.
He is very energetic and outgoing. Lectures are clear, but tests require some extra studying.
Lectures are super entertaining, but you don't have to go if you have the book most of the time. Tests are extremely easy if you study, haven't gotten lower than a 98 on tests. He is always willing to help anyone that struggles out if they seek it. Lets lecture out early several times
Get both the PIP packet & text. To do well read the book & fill out the study guide which is about 15pgs typed & filled out. Each exam covers 100+pgs of reading but fairly easy if you read & study. Online quizzes every week each worth 10pts you get 5 tries with feedback but questions change. Grade out of 560pts, 100 per exam(4) and 10 per quiz(16).
Not terrible. He's so extra and kind of acts like the students are in kindergarten. If you show up and take notes every class, do the weekly quizzes until you get a 10, and study for at least 3 days you'll probably do well.
Eros Desouza is a good teacher but he gets kind of annoying. He drags on lectures when it's not needed. There are 16 online open note quizzes, and 4 tests. It's pretty easy to do well in it. However, the final is extremely difficult. He says it's the easiest test, but it most definitely is not.
DeSouza is a very funny man and he wants you to do good. He makes the material very interesting and gives great examples. Your grade is 16 online quizzes and 4 exams. Each online quiz had 5 tries to do. Buy his PIP packet and rent the textbook, both help ensure a good grade. Go to lecture or material is too fuzzy to comprehend.
Lectures are not mandatory, but it helps with understanding the material which helps with the tests. You have quizzes weekly which are are online and use the information from the book, so you need the book. Overall he seems like a fun, easy to talk to professor I just wish he explained some things better . He says that if you need help he will help
He is a decent lecturer and really cares about his students. The material on the tests is DIRECTLY out of the book& the study guide in the PIP packet. I got a 96 on the last test I took in his class& went to 1 class during that unit. There are some ?'s on the test about things discussed in class though. You must be willing to read& work hard!
Awesome on performing examples. Work for your grade because this class requires you to fill blank in power point on PP during lectures. I learn a lot but prepare to study a lot to do well.
Your grade in this class is made up of 3 exams and some online quizzes. The exams are extremely tricky even if you think you know the material. He is sometimes really hard to understand because he has an accent. I did not care for him all that much but he wasn't awful either. Doesn't round.
lots of material. and you must buy the textbook. lectures can be long and boring but he is very energetic. take notes in class and study a couple days before the test and you should be fine. not a horrible class but you should go to class for the material. weekly quizzes that are super easy, 4 exams, final is NOT cumulative.
I had to take this class as requirement for my major. Desouza is awesome! His lectures are almost always entertaining and the material is not hard. If you read the book, fill out/understand the study guides, and do the online quizzes there is no reason to get anything lower than a B. Highly recommend!!
Attend class to fill in notes, read the book to pass. 16 quizzes, open note online, overall super easy class if you attend class every week and take good notes and take the quizzes until you get a 100%. Quizzes can be taken up to 5 times. Super funny teacher, but lectures can get a bit long and tedious. Study guides provided for tests in notes pack
Eros is one of the worst professors that I have ever had at ISU. He doesn't care about your well-being, even when you go in for office hours. He expects you to get everything that he says, and even when he explains things another way, he still doesn't make sense. Be ready to work for your grade, as I had to do!
Exams are difficult, cover many specifics, and check to see if you thoroughly understand the material. The only other grades are online quizzes which you should be able to get 100% on. Requires the book (necessary) and a PIP packet which contains all the lecture slides (not necessary if you take good notes). He's more interesting than average.
Best psychology teacher by far. He definitely means well and I definitely recommend him if he is an option for one of your classes. Exams weren't difficult at all if you take notes, pay attention, and study. A person overall!
Best psychology professor at ISU!!
He exspects a lot from you, but in a managable way. He is very organized and very helpful on topics you dont get.
he is a decent teacher. you definitely need to go to lectures to get the notes .
You can buy the PIP packet and use the book + study guides for all the exams without ever going to class. Online quizzes are worth about 25% of your grade and are free points. Tests questions can be tricky, but you're given 4 free extra credit points per exam. Teacher is hit or miss depending on your personality; very eccentric guy.
I loved Dr. DeSouza! One of my favorite professors I have had at ISU. He definitely put the personality in my personality psych class. The work is easy to do as he gives online quizzes with 5 chances to retake, and feedback given. So its easy to get an A on the quizzes. He also prepares study guides for each exam. Easy A if you do the work.
Weekly quizzes with 5 attempts and can find all the answers on quizlet so its nearly impossible not to get 100%. A lot of extra credit opportunities- 2 ec questions per test & 10 points ec when you go to GAs office hours. Tests make up majority of your grade so get ready to pay attention in class and study since they are in depth and cover a lot
I stopped going to lectures the second half of the semester because they were boring and dragged. Looked over study guide and quizzes to help study for tests and still got high Cs or low Bs. Extra credit opportunities and easy points from quizzes help boost your grade a lot. Just google the questions and you can find the answers online
DeSouza makes this class difficult. His exams are difficult, and he will take off 2 points on your overall exam grade if you fill in your student ID bubbles wrong. He does have online quizzes due before each class, recommend getting 10 on every one to help your grade.
The amount of work you put into this class directly correlates to your grade. If you work hard and apply yourself, you'll pass easily. I would recommend rewriting the notes before tests, showing up frequently to lecture, and (even though Eros posts lecture powerpoints online) actually reading the textbook.
I truly recommend reading the book he assigns. There are 16 quizzes with 3 attempts to receive the best grade. The book will be your friend for those quizzes. However, you NEED TO READ IT! You can't pass the class without reading it. He assigns four quizzes all due at the same date. Take the quizzes before the date. Try to take one quiz per week.
The professor had 16 quizzes that you could take up to 3 times. He takes the best grade out of the three. However, you need to read the book because most of the questions are based upon the book. He provides lectures that cover the "main points" in the book, but there is more information in the books. He is an amazing professor.
The only item graded for this course was the chapter quiz each week. There was no homework, tests, or a final for this class! I definitely recommend reading through the book and PowerPoint presentations to do well on the quizzes. Additionally, you're allowed to submit each quiz up to 3 times. He also sends out deadline reminders through email.
This course was asynchronous for me. The entire course was just quizzes, so that's all my grade was based on, which is totally fine because there were three attempts per quiz, and four per unit for a total of 16. I enjoyed the class and got a refresher on a lot of information. DeSouza is an accommodating professor.
In class, he gives lectures by just reading off of the powerpoint. Although he is a funny guy and makes it as interesting as possible, you honestly don't even need to go to class to get an A. The class consisted of 10 question quizzes for each chapter that you have 3 attempts to do. I barely went to class and got a 97%.
He is very strict about following the syllabus and doesnt give any help if you miss something. I thought he said that the quizzes were due 4 mondays apart from each other and when I went to do one group of them it was past due and he wouldnt let me retake it or do anything to get points back. Im 1 point away from passing and he wont round up.
This class was somewhat boring to me, but not difficult. The class is divided by 16 quizzes, with 4 due about a month apart. He makes the due dates for the quizzes very clear in the syllabus and sent out multiple email reminders before they were due. Easy A. As long as you keep up with the quizzes, you'll be fine.
Prof DeSouza was amazing! His class consisted of 16 multiple choice quizzes with three chances for each quiz. Make sure to read and look at the PowerPoint he provides to do well on the quizzes. Offered 16 extra credit points as well! Overall the class was not challenging and DeSouza was the sweetest man ever!
completely online; if you space it out right its one lecture and one quiz per week. as long as you take notes on the PowerPoint and actually read them, the quizzes aren't bad. some are harder than others. Overall this class was convenient and pretty easy. Professor seemed to also genuinely care about students' success.
All online lectures, one quiz a week if you follow the syllabus. No final exam. It's pretty easy if you read over the lectures before taking the quiz. But don't bother emailing him any questions regarding the class itself. He'll tell you every time to look at the syllabus and not answer the question.
This class was just 16 quizzes. No extra credit, but a very easy class. For every quiz there are lecture slides and a textbook reading that have the answers you need. You have three chances for each quiz and none are accepted late. I never met/emailed him, but emails were sent every week reminding us not to fall behind. Overall, I would take again!
The course had 16 quizzes and no final exam! Probably the easiest class I have taken at ISU.
The semester comprises of sixteen 10 question online quizzes. Leave yourself 15 minutes a week to complete one quiz a week and it's an easy A+
the textbook isn't really necessary though he says you need it. since it was online i got all my information from this thorough powerpoint lectures. only graded things are the quizzes each week and they're super easy as long as you go through lecture.
Professor DeSouza's class was a breeze! Just 16 quizzes with 3 attempts each. The material is straightforward if you use the provided slides and textbook. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for quiz prep. Overall, an easy A with a helpful prof.
I don't have any complaints about the class, as I like a completely self-taught class and work at my own pace. But watch for quiz deadlines! The PowerPoints were easy to use, and Professor DeSouza organized the class well.
The class consists of a few quizzes every month, allowing you tons of flexibility when completing them. You are allowed to take them three times, keeping the highest score. This is my second class with Dr. DeSouza and I love how he runs his classes!
