Puts power points online, attendance not taken. Good sense of humor.
Attend class even though she doesn't take attendence because she will use material from just the lecture in the exams. Exams aren't too hard. She makes the class interesting with stories, her sense of humor and frequent videos. I'd definately recommend her for Gen Psych 101.
Unorganized and always late; tests are kind of hard..too much information. the videos she shows in class help you remember things alot so i suggest going.
She's a very good professor. Very engaging and interesting to listen to. You don't really have to read the book much as long as you go to class. She show's videos frequently and her classes are generally interesting.
amazing teacher.
Really sweet and funny teacher. She's definitely one of the best Psych 101 teachers in the department. Her tests are kinda tricky sometimes (choose the BEST answer >.<) Attendance never taken, but if you're never gonna go to class READ THE BOOK!!! You won't do well without it! I never went to lecture, didnt study for the last test..and got a C
Nice teacher who enjoys teaching and has a profound interest in what she does. While she is very nice, her exams can be tricky. Put her power-points online so you can study from those, but they aren't clear at times. Be sure to look up examples and studies in the book as they will greatly help you on the test. If you're willing to study, good class
Very helpful and interested in the subject. Easy A if you put in the time.
dont have to attend class to do well...exam questions come directly from slides which she puts online. extremely fair grader. would definitely take a class with again if i had and interest in taking another psych class
Gives good study guides, tests are a little hard, but nothing some studying can't overcome. Not the most helpful when asking her a question though.
she's a great teacher. just got her PhD. i hope Rutgers hires her full time, because she made all the material very clear and easy to understand. When people were unhappy with their grades, she curved it to help us all out. very nice, very funny, and a great prof.
Good sense of humor. Puts her powerpoints online. Exams are a bit tricky, so skim the book for examples of concepts.
She's a really nice person...But since she's new..she lacks some knowledge...didn't really learn much in her class...just 3 exams nd no quizes..you don't really have any motivation to study until it's time for the exams...didn't think she was THAT easy..got a B+ even though I studied a lot...but anyway...good professor...
tries to make it interesting. gives extra credit (5 extra RPU's), and an optional final at end (all ?s from other exams). I slept through 1 exam & took optional... All ?s come from Power Points. MUST Read those, and read the book a little while studying. ended with A in class. plus, nice lady.
Her exams are really easy if you just follow what she puts in the power points (she posts them online) and read the corresponding parts of the book. If she gives you a study guide - trust it! It's exactly whats on the exam. I missed half of her classes and still got an easy A.
Doesn't take attendance. If you're good at teaching yourself, don't even bother going to class! Take a day off - but don't fall too behind. It will become overwhelming. It's better to spread out material - your remember it better. You can slack on attendance, but don't miss exams! Really funny and interesting to listen to - good videos in class.
she is evil..she is so unhelpful, completely useless in e-mails, boring, and one of those professors who doesn't care at all about their students.
This woman is in NO WAY qualified to teach psychology. She used to be a flight attendant and speaks russian, THATS IT!!! No qualifications whatsoever. Her exams are hard and you need to know EVERYTHING. I got a B because i studied alot but most ppl werent as fortunate. Dont take this lady. She also has 2 much of anannoying voice for a 9 am class.
I don't know how anyone can say that studying her slides will get you a good grade. I studied my ass off and failed the first exam. And I don't think the second went well either. She is unclear and gives you study guidelines which are just all the info on the slides in question form. Don't take her if you need to keep up your GPA.
the easiest class ever!!! she scares students on the first day by saying that its a "very difficult" class (and thats a direct quote) but its soo easy! i never go to class...and her study guides are very helpful...and the exams are a joke! just read the book
Good class. Helpful (and cute) videos. She's a bit of a lunatic but somehow not in a bad way. You don't have to go to class if you read the book, but going to class definitely helped me. You'll have to study and just keep up with the work & reading, because you can easily fall behind. Otherwise, very interesting. Recommended.
I don't know what it is about her, but her "style" just doesn't get through to me. Slides are useless in studying... I had a 4.0 GPA prior to taking this course, I got a C on the first exam (with the extra points). I've lost all interest in Infant and Child Development at this point.
As long as you take good notes from the book you could not go to class to get a B in the class. She is quirky and has a good sense of humar that isn't really appreciated by some people. Take this professor for either Cognition or Infant and Child Development... She is a great teacher!
Took her for Cognition! She's really nice! MAKE SURE you do the review guidelines for the exams! THEY'RE THE REASON I GOT AN A!!! You should def buy the book so you can do the review. The exams are really straight forward, no tricky question. I def recommend her for Cognition. Do the guidelines and you will get an A. SHE'S THE BEST.
overall if you looking to learn about Infant and Child Development take a different professor. Lectures made up of reading off a powerpoint. Class is boring and ultimately useless. Reading the book is the only way to go. Book is fairly good. Exams still pretty tough regardless
4 noncumulative exams. Extra credit. DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. Puts up study guides and the exams are based ENTIRELY on the guides. Read book w/ guides by your side and you're going to get at least a 95 average in the class.
Great teacher, makes the class easy. Easiest A in college, attendance not mandatory, slides online, review guides for exams online, AND extra credit. Take her, she is awesome and made this boring subject pretty interesting.
Mayhew is great...if you're going to take cognition, take it with her!!! There's 4 exams--non-cumulative, and if you study for them you'll do well. She gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit as well..she's a really good professor!
Not a bad prof... but not a good one either. Class is boring PowerPoint. stopped going to class at the end- like 1 month of being absent.. got a 98 on the final.. read the book... go only to class if u must (for a video). All in all an ok teacher...
If you are going to take infant & child development there are easier professors out there. Going to lecture is pointless, she puts the slides up AFTER class which i never understood why. For the exam just do her study guides and read the entire book. With studying an A is attainable. She's quirky and funny but not my fav professor.
Prof M is organized and stays on point during entire lecture. Provides review questions to help you focus on what to study. Easy B with little effort. Took her during Summer I. Great class for last minute crammers
I was so excited to take this class and truthfully, thought it would be one of the easier psych classes... WRONG! She's confusing and all over the place. She had no control over the class so it was always incredibly noisy. Her lectures contradicted the book at times, making for confusing exams. Solid B+ student & I got a D. Take at your own risk.
You literally have to be braindead not to get an A in this class. I went to a grand total of at most 6 classes all semester, and still managed to get a 60/60 on the final. To add to this, she gives a boat-load of easy extra credit (up to 10 points on your final grade).
I had her for both Infant and Child Development and Cognition. She uploads all her powerpoints, attendance not mandatory, slides are a guidelines for what should be studied in the book(infant)and for cog she gives an exact outline for each exam Very fair, got an A in both classes. If you need the Cognition book email me [email protected]
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! she gives you study guides. read the book with the study guides and you will get an A in the class. the exam questions come directly from them!!! I never got below a 92 on any exams i took with her, and this is my 2nd course with her. she's quirky and crazy and one of the easiest professors that also wants you to learn!
Professor Mayhew is a great professor. She give study outlines, clearly worded exams, and is an interesting lecturer. The textbook is necessary to doing well in the class. Although lecture is not really mandatory the material is very intriguing.
She's one of the greatest teachers I've had, makes learning fun. Have her for adolescent psych, easy to listen to, makes great relateable examples, and makes it so you actually REMEMBER the information, making it not particularly necessary to study and get above a b.
This class is not for someone who's not into the learning neruo. It is fairly heavily bio-based,learning neruoanatomy and then a breadth of disorders.Lecture attendance suggested to do well.Tests are easy enough, part of the questions come from weekly online quizzes. She's really nice, but when it comes to tests, you have to study.Overall decent.
Really easy class. She uploads all the powerpoints so you don't have to attend class, and her lectures are just an outline of the book chapters so you can just scan the book. Relatively easy grade so it's a nice GPA booster without having to do much work.
Very easy class. Lectures are not mandatory, she uploads all her powerpoints which outline important points in the book so you don't even really have to read that. Exams are relatively easy as long as you read her notes. Good choice if you just want an easy class that won't hurt your GPA.
Do not take her for Neuro Psych. Too much info to intake. Her Exams are HARD. Gives no EC. TOTALLY DISORGANIZED. LATE TO CLASSES. PUTS UP READING ASSIGNMENTS FOR EXAM only DAYS before the actual exam. DONT RECOMMEND. AVOID IF YOU CAN!
DON'T take this class for neuropsych if you aren't a science brain. I got a D and I'm a B+ student, even graduated with honors from county college. Exams are crazy hard, online assigments-some answers can be found nowhere, not even online. NO extra credit offered just 3 exams and 25 online assigments that's it, and I'm left trying to save my GPA...
Awful prof. Totally unprofessional. Late to almost every class. Tests and online assignments were difficult and contained useless info. Someone in the class sold the online assignments so the prof took it out on the whole class. She sent a terrible email to all of the students voicing her disgust with our generation. Will post it piece mail.
VERY unprofessional. Also, very unfair. Gave more opportunities to other people, but when other people needed it- was not given. class was a bunch of garbage. will NEVER take a class with her EVER again.
All rote, but that is expected of a psychology class.
Just took her for Infant & Child Development and I must say I did not enjoy it. Not only did I work hard and receive a C, but she is very unorganized and does not seem to care about students. She keeps you the full time and there is TONS OF INFORMATION! Wish someone told me before I decided to take her. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS!
I have to agree with the comment below me. If you are looking to learn about Infant and Child Development take a different professor. Lectures made up of reading off a powerpoint and are useless. Reading the book is the only way to do good. Her exams are still wordy and tough, so DO NOT TAKE HER if you need to keep up your GPA!
There are better professors at Rutgers! She is unprofessional, unorganized, and doesn't care about students! Her tests are tricky and you end up disappointed in the end. In the end, I regret taking her!
I was interested in taking this class, but at the end, I was stuck with a C and very disappointed with her teaching style. Tests are hard, WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION, and you need to know everything from the lectures and the book. She should not be teaching!!
This class sucks. Yes, I said it. Her lectures were awful & all over the place, and she doesnt like any questions or discussion. Mayhew is not what she used to be. The tests require a lot of studying to do well. Unfortunately, I did not have anywhere near the positive experience I was hoping to have. She should stop teaching.
Had her for Infant and Child Development. Granted it's a summer class so there's bound to be vast amounts of material to be absorbed but it didn't help that her exams were extremely hard. I ended up with a C but only read the slides--not the textbook. She was a difficult professor but she definitely made the 4 hour of class bearable with videos.
She was a nice teacher, a little disorganized but I enjoyed her class. You have to study for it but it was interesting and as long as you show up and do the work you'll be fine.
Not an easy class. Lots of information to know and her tests are difficult. There are better teachers to take!
Her tests are impossible, you NEED to study BOTH the text book and the notes in class in order to do well. You have to go to class, and I went every time and still managed not to do well. Overall, do not take this class if you care about your GPA!
This is not a class for anyone looking for an easy A. It requires tons of work if you want to do well on the exams. Unorganized and doesn't care about students. Will not respond to emails if you have questions and posts the powerpoint slides after class! Don?t waste your time and money on a professor like this!
Do not take this teacher! This class is hard for a psych elective and you will regret it in the end. You can study for hours, read every chapter, go to all the boring classes, and still not do well. She gave me a D when I was one point away from a C. She doesn't answer emails, doesn?t curve when whole class is doing poor. I regret taking her!
There are better Psychology professors out there. Do yourself a favor and take an easier and nicer professor who cares about students.
She's really easy for Gen Psych, I really recommend her. Attendance isn't mandatory; she posts all the slides from class online and you can just study from those and get an A on her tests. Totally chill.
Take her. I can't imagine an easier class. Her lectures are semi-interesting, she provides great examples, gives extra-credit and outlines the exam with review questions.
She may be easy for General Psych but for her other classes like Neuropsych she's not. There are better professors out there.
possibly my least favorite professor of all time. most annoying voice in the world, reads right off her powerpoints, and sure loves to take her time putting up resources online. she's useless and i would have done anything to drop her class in the beginning of the year
Horrible teacher. Does nothing but read off of slides that are online. Not helpful at all. Barely gives out anything for your grades to be based on so you run on thin ice.
If you are going to take psych 101 there are nicer and easier professors at Rutgers. Classes are boring and useless and she just reads right off the slides. She is not very helpful either. Don't bother to email her with questions and concerns but she will not reply. Overall, I wish I had switched to another professor.
she was a good prof.. easier than other gen psych professors.. nice and gives extra credit.. actually reading the books for this class helped.. overall not a bad professor
This class is a joke. There is so much extra credit that if you do it all you can easily bump yourself up to the next letter grade. However you have to go to class and take notes, otherwise her powerpoints won't make sense. Almost everything on the 3 exams is from her lectures basically. If you're looking for an easy gen psyche teacher, take her.
I did not enjoy her. She was not a nice and very unapproachable professor. It is obvious she doesn't care about the students and only there to benefit herself.
Overall if you are looking for an easy professor take a different one. Unorganized and lectures are made up of reading off a powerpoint. Class is boring and useless. Reading the book is the only way to go. Exams are pretty difficult, it covers a lot of information. There are other easier psych electives that are offered.
Material was very interesting, but she taught it in an unorganized manner from her powerpoint slides. Going to class helps even though slides are online. Book helps a little too. Her voice is annoying and her tests are tricky, so do study reviews on sakai to study for exams. Some extra credit...definitely do it. Take it if you like the material
class is not mandatory but if you don't go it'll only be harder to understand the material. i went to a lot [not all] of classes and still winded up getting a C. her tests suck since she always has 2 right answers for almost all the questions.
Not the easiest for General Psych. Her tests suck and although I went to nearly every class, I still ended up with a C.
This class is an easy A as long as you decide to read the chapters at one point during the semester or go over your notes. She will post review questions for every chapter and the test is basically based off of them and the notes. The book is an easy read and the information is pretty easy to understand. She also gives a lot of extra credit.
She can be funny at times, but lectures are still pretty boring. She gives review questions for each chapter and if you do those (which, admittedly, is a lot of work), you'll do fine on tests. If you don't do them, it could be the difference between a C and an A. She also gives a decent amount of extra credit.
For Adolescent Development: lecture slides are posted on Sakai, so attending class isn't necessary. Not all exam material is covered in lecture, so read the book too. Exams are noncumulative and all multiple choice.
Regret taking this class especially with her. The class is hard but she does not make it any easier. She is not organized and seems to be all over the place. Exams are difficult and tricky. Avoid taking if possible!
I could not stand this woman. Her voice drives you insane, she reads right off her powerpoints, and her exams were hard. Look for a different psych professor.
EASIEST CLASS EVER!!! Got an A without ever going to class. The grade is based on 3 exams that are all based on the textbook and her notes, which are online! Easy A. My friends who had other professors all had weekly homework and papers. This is the best professor to take for psych 101!
Had her for Adolescent Devel- I would absolutely take her again! She tells funny stories and keeps dry material interesting! She really knows her stuff and is able to get in the class involved in the material. Her exam "review sheets" are everything that will be on the exam so her tests are NOT tough. Really a great professor.
The only reason I'd ever take her again is because it is easy. Between her slides and the book you are fine. I got an A. I never went class after exam 1. I just read the book before the exam and did her "review questions" (which is what the test is on). Very easy, but she is very rude and her Virtual Teen assignments are annoying.still easy though.
I enjoyed her class. Lectures got dry at times, but she has a sense of humor and does try to keep things interesting. 3 exams, 5 easy problem sets, and plenty of extra credit. Went to some lectures, studied a few hours before each exam, got a B+. Definitely worth it.
Got a good grade because of good study habits, and being really good at Psych. If this is not you, don't take this class with her. Slides are extremely disorganized, as is lecturing style. Grades are fair though; so are tests. But for dense material, she NEEDS to organize better. DON'T get text! Unnecessary (so she told us after we got the book).
the class is not hard, but her disorganization can get in the way. she gives 3 exams non cumulative and some extra credit + myteen (online raising). i just wished she post the grades and slides on sakai in a more timely manner rather reminding her
I didn't enjoy this class as much as I thought I would. Professor Mayhew is very smart and humorous, but her disorganization partially affected the way I did in class. She wouldn't post slides on time (and I use them in class so that was crucial for me), and her lectures are boring. To do well, you need to fill out and memorize her review questions
Really nice and really quirky. Class was pretty easy & the subject matter was interesting. Learned a lot in this class. Attendance not mandatory. There are some Virtual Teen assignments that are annoying but easy plus some extra credit here and there. Exams aren't tough. I got a B+. Study her review sheets and the book/notes and you'll do fine.
Extremely nice professor. Their are 3 exams, all of which she gives you study guides for, so if you know the guides, you get an A on the tests. Their are various online quizzes that make up an easy 10% of your grade. All lectures are posted on sakai and you don't need to buy a book. Take her if you can!
Neuro with her was not easy even tho I love this prof. I struggled to earn C+ worst in my life!!! if not into bio/have little or no bio background beware and StudY!
I don't know why she is not rated higher on here. She is a very nice professor who is straight forward about everything, there are no surprises on the exams. Attend class, read the book, & do Virtual Teen assignments & you'll get an A. She sometimes does extra credit during class. Non-cumulative exams.
Overall, not a great teacher, but not bad either. She reads off of slide (kind of boring) however, if she says sth that is not on it, you better write it down. She has review questions for each exam. Beware though, the reviews do not cover everything. You need to study extra. There will be at least 3-10 tricky questions on each exam. So be careful.
Great professor. Shes very good at explaining things. Easy course if you pay attention and attend class. Gives extra credit for clicker questions. Makes lectures fun and interesting.
manages to make a 400 person lecture class interactive. she's definitely funny and explains the material very clearly. go to class and you're golden. do your virtual teen assignments on time!
The class was not bad, just a lot to memorize. She posts all of the slides online, but AFTER she goes over them. you need to write literally everything she says down for the study questions. extra credit offered though. come to class, do online assignments, take good notes and youll be fine!
This class requires a ton of memorization although the exams are generally easy compared to the review questions. Mayhew is funny but her slides tend to be all over the place. You can't skip class as her notes are incomplete. The textbook is not necessary though, so just memorize the slides and review questions.
I had her for neuropsychology, she really tries but her way of teaching hasn't evolved over time. You can tell that the course material is dated and that she herself has lost interest in the material. The class is fair with its grading and it is very informative, I recommend to take it, it's not an easy A and it's one of the harder psych classes.
very good class to take! funny professor, found the subject quite interesting. need to read the book but also pay attention in lectures as that's where she gives the most information. highly recommend this class for psychology
There are 3exams,clicker pts-extra credit &online quizzes. She gives study guides,no txtbook. It is alot of material, but if u study the study guides &online quizzes u'll do just fine especially with the extra credit. Got an A in this class., u dont need to have background in bio to take this.
Very easy. She keeps everything simple. Everything is on the powerpoint and she uploads them on Sakai. Attendance is not necessary unless you want extra credit (up to 5%!) No textbook.
Great professor! I did not use the textbook once during the time I had this class - all the information is in the powerpoints and lectures! Not a hard class to do well as long as you study for the exams!
I really dislike Mayhew's teaching style. She is all over the place and doesn't answer questions very effectively. Her exams are tricky and you have to put a lot of work into the class.
I was looking forward to taking this class, but I actually regret it. I wish I would've taken it with another professor. She is EXTREMELY disorganized. She'll lecture about one chapter, but give you a quiz on another. She does not give reviews before an exam. Instead, she starts a new one. Boring lectures. I highly suggest another professor.
Best teacher! She was very comical and very simple with teaching. She kept every class interesting because she showed anywhere from 1-6 video clips a lecture. All you have to do is study her powerpoints that are very helpful. She puts up review questions that yo should definetly study. Some of the questions you may have to reference the textbook.
i did not attend a single class and got a B+. everything is textbook. do her study guides and you'll be fine
Horrible. Please save yourself and do not take her. First of all her study guides are impossible even if you do buy the book (she doesn' exactly recomend it, i did and i still am having trouble because she doesn't go over what is needed for the exam)
I did/am doing great in both Neuropsychology and Infant and Childhood Development. It's not extremely easy but you can rest assured that there are absolutely no tricks. Also, if you complete her study guides (which, admittedly, can be tedious) you'll do well.
Probably one of the worst professors I have ever had at Rutgers. Extremely difficult to get a hold of and rarely answers questions. Her exams are the type where each choice could be the answer. She forgot to bring the final exams with her and forgot to tell the ta about the final. I retook the class with Ingate and got an A. AVOID THIS LADY!!!!!
Tests are hard and confusing. No textbook. Forgets to post the lectures to Sakai until 10 mins before class most of the time. Least favorite teacher in a very long time. Not helpful at all. Would avoid her at all costs.
If you want to do well, make sure you go to class. Attendance is not mandatory but she lets you get up to 5 points extra credit on your whole grade with clicker points. Textbook not needed. Just make sure to do and study the review questions and you'll do fine
Amazing teacher. With no bio background, I studied hard and got an A. It cleared my science phobia, though its really not that much bio. Don't be scared to takes this class if youre will to put in the work and go to EVERY class and take good notes
This class is a doable A. Do the outlines, understand the concept, clicker questions and quizzes. The teacher can only do so much, you have to do your part.
I think Mayhew is underrated. You gotta work for an A, but her exams are mostly straightforward. Just memorize all the answers on her review questions and quizzes. I thought the class was pretty interesting.
This is by far one of the worst classes I've ever taken. I've gotten A's/B's in all my psych classes, biology and chemistry courses, and i'm STRUGGLING to get a C in this class! Don't waste your time with the review sheets- it's not on the exam. You can study for weeks and it won't matter in the end. Nice lady but that's about it.
Painfully boring, but also very easy. Just study the review questions and you're good to go.
I loved Mayhew! Very smart but not in an arrogant way - willing to admit when she doesn't know the answer and genuinely interested in figuring it out to help the student. Often quite funny. I actually looked forward to going to this class, even on Friday mornings. Fair tests and quizzes, and no textbook! Optional clicker questions for extra credit
Easy A! Went to lectures, took notes, occasionally read from the textbook, and did the review questions. Put a SMALL amount of work in and you're fine. The review questions align exactly w/ lecture notes. Professor is helpful. Clicker questions for extra credit. Virtual teen assignments are easy. Don't understand how anyone could get below a B+...
I always check this site & I saw so many negative comments so I avoided taking her classes. Took her class my final semester & I wish I had earlier. She's brilliant, passionate, & SO fair. You get out what you put in but it's by no means difficult as long as you listen up in class. Extra credit opps offered & tests are straight from her review.
Professor Mayhew is the best. I think she makes a hard class extremely easy. She provides study guides for each test so you're well prepared.. also study the quiz questions because they are always on the test! I also took adolescent with her and mixed up the final exam day and end up missing my adolescent one and she allowed me to take it.
Was excited to take this class but then got bored after taking it with her. She doesn't make any sense and stays in one slide for the longest, she is kind of confusing. Barely went to class, didnt study, didnt read the book and managed to get a C+ in her class. She is nice but confusing, made the class drag. I wasnt motivated to do anything.
I really liked Mayhew. There is something about her that I found entertaining and funny. Her exams weren't bad at all, just go to lecture and actually listen. A lot of her exam questions are from what she verbally says as support to her lecture notes. She is pretty explicit in what will be on the exams and provides study guides. Clicker Qs for EC.
Took Gen Psych cause I heard it was an easy A and that it was interesting. Turns out to be extremely hard for me to pass because she covers so much material and then gives you about 30 review questions per chapter to memorize for the test. She's also not good at answering your emails and when she does, helps very little.
the lecture is pretty clear, but the tests are tough, and not willing to answer the email.
Clickers for EC, but if you actually do the review questions the weekend before the exam you're not going to have troubles even if you don't go to lectures. I went overboard for the first exam and got a 100 lol. Lectures are pretty standard, sorta makes you fall asleep especially the room is nice and warm and dim. TL;DR: do the review Q's.
Her tests aren't hard, if you study the night before for them you can expect a B
Puts all the slides online and is extremely clear with the power points. The tests follow the study guides exactly. Minimal effort needed for this class and I thought it was interesting
Estelle is a very interesting lecturer who will hold your attention for the most part. Clicker questions are worth 5 points EC onto grade, so you should go to class. In addition, the study guides are the key to success since they are exactly what you should know for the exams. I love Estelle!!!
Professor Mayhew is a pretty good professor. I found her lectures to be a little boring at times, but pay attention because what she says will be helpful on the exams. If you don't go to class (which you should for extra credit clicker questions), googling what's on her slides will do since there's no textbook.
Really difficult class, only take it if you really like science. Go to class, seriously, go to class. I didn't and I cried studying all the time. If you go to class, do clicker quizzes, and study you should be fine. But if you are looking for an easy A, this isn't it. Mayhew is great though. If you HAVE to take it, take it with her.
Really easy class. Mayhew is awesome. Attend lecture and get an easy A.
the only thing i remember about her and her class is being very close to getting an A, and i asked her to double check my quizzes and exams to see if i can get any extra points and she responds with "I don't do charity bumping" that was VERY rude and unprofessional, a simple no would have been ok, this statement ruined this class for me.
Mayhew really made general psychology so easy AND interesting. She gives review questions and she's not kidding when she says that those are what you need to know for exams. I do suggest reading the book for clarification and review. Don't skip lecture, she presents the information clearly and she's a lot of fun!!! Do the work and you'll succeed.
She is a GREAT lecturer. One of the best profs I've had at RU so far. She's very enthusiastic about the material and presents it clearly. The material could be difficult, but she makes it very easy with her teaching style. She can keep the class awake, and tells some funny jokes and anecdotes. She made me WANT to go to lectures, a rare skill.
Professor Mayhew is a great professor, made class interesting. 3 multiple choice tests and 4 online east assignments. Textbook not necessary.
I attended every class, sat in the front, took lots of notes. YET I found myself having to Google info just to do the review &hw. 90% of the grade is solely on exams. It was hard. Not impossible.. but i had a 3.7 gpa and i found myself struggling. Work hard that 1st exam so you don't fall behind. Her lectures weren't boring but she moves fast
Professor Mayhew is one of the greatest teachers I've had at Rutgers. She inspired me to be a psych minor and have loved every class I have taken with her. Her exams come right from her review guides and she is very clear and sometimes funny. She engages the students and makes a big lecture interactive. Really recommend any psych class with Mayhew
Dr. Mayhew was a great professor and quite humorous too! I liked how she talked about growing up in the Netherlands. She gives optional clicker quizzes for extra credit, all of which are just polls. Exams come straight from detailed study guide questions she uploads after each chapter. If you go to lecture & do the review questions, you'll do well.
Mayhew was the best psych prof ive had so far. Very fair, straight-forward exams. 3 exams, each 30% of your grade not cumulative (3rd exam is the final). Makes amazing review sheets for each chapter and understanding those guarantees you will do well!
No textbook, but she provides access to her PP presentations. You have to add your own notes from the lectures to do well. She gives review questions that spell out what's on the exams. She's generous with extra credit. It's not an easy class because the material isn't easy, but she explains it exceptionally well. Go to class. Take notes. Get an A.
Great teacher/lecturer. Easy to understand, no book!$! entertaining and clear in what she wants you to know. Its hard studying like a bio class, but if you put in the time and effort, its an A class
Mayhew is a great professor. I've had her for at least three classes, neuro, infant, and personality. I really liked her. Just go to class, write down what she says, and then do the study guides. She also gives extra credit by clicker points. The exams are kind of hard bc all the answers could be right, you just have to choose the best.
I loved Professor Mayhew. I had her for Neuropsych and Quant. She is very nice and intelligent. She offers study guides that are very helpful for her exams and extra credit opportunities in class. I learned a lot with her and definitely recommend her.
Mayhew was great! Since there was no textbook, you have to go to class. She explains things very well & incorporates stories which help you to remember the things she tells you. She's very entertaining in lecture, I always felt like the class flew by! Would 100% take this class again if I could. As long as you listen and do the reviews you'll be ok
She's a great prof. No textbook so necessary to attend class for notes. Very clear with explaining material, and makes it entertaining for you. Do all review questions before exams and you'll do fine. Neuro is not an easy subject to begin with but your grade reflects how hard you work for it. Would definitely take her other classes.
She's funny and makes the class fly by. Can be a bit scatterbrained at times, but very intelligent. Do not underestimate how hard the exams are going to be!!! Do the review questions and you'll be okay. No textbook so go to class EVERYDAY (power points are very skeletal). Extra credit clicker questions in class and 10 online quizzes.
Funny professor who loves her subject. She's a boss.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Will make you interested in Neuropsychology. Lectures are very clear (and enjoying)! Study guides are VERY helpful. If you do the guides and study those, you'll pass easily. Clicker points really add up for extra credit. It is a hard course but she makes it very easy with minimal effort required on your part. I love her!!
Really good professor. Adolescent Development was a very easy class. You will be annoyed at how she talks about the Netherlands all the time. She pronounces "vastly" weird, and if you notice how she talks, you will get annoyed. Tests are easy if you study. It was also weird talking about little girls getting their periods though
Great professor and good lectures. 3 exams, directly from review questions, 4 extra points based on in class clicker quizzes. 5 very easy virtual teen assignments. Go to class, take notes, and review your notes based on review questions. Then it's an easy A class. You don't really need to read the textbook.
Three exams total (nothing cumulative) and five virtual teen assignments. GET THE CLICKER for up to four extra credit points that go towards your grade!!! MEMORIZE the review questions (they literally follow her lecture notes) and you'll be set for the exams. I studied for them a day or two before, nothing too serious! Good luck (:
Not a bad class at all. There is no textbook, so you need to go to class. Take notes on her slides, do the review questions, and study them for the three non-cumulative exams. 10 easy online quizzes also. She is very engaging in lecture and can keep me entertained at 10 in the morning. She is very generous with the extra credit clicker questions.
Took Mayhew for both adult and adolescent development. 3 non-cumulative exams, online assignments, and attendance is extra credit. Very funny lecturer. Exams require studying.
She's great! I took her for adult development and thought she was a great professor. She's really funny and makes sure you clearly understand the information presented. She has clicker questions so it's best to go to class. I would definitely take her again!
Really easy course. 3 exams each is 30 points. You need to raise a virtual teen and do 5 assignments related to this, which is 10 points. 4 extra credits for clicker quizzes, which basically ask you questions based on your situation and there aren't correct answers. So it is easy to get extra credits. Guidelines will help you with your exams.
This is by far one of the worst classes I have ever taken at Rutgers. She does not make any effort to help us study for the exams and does not answer emails. She also discourages us to email her TA because she said her TA is "busy" Her lectures are all powerpoints and she goes off on tangents. I would avoid taking her at all costs.
This shouldn't be considered a psych class, more like neuroscience or neuroanatomy. For a 300 level course, it shouldn't be that heavy. She gives extra credit clicker questions that don't do any good. I put in so much effort to get a C+. She acts as if this is the only course on people's schedule. Moral of the story is she sucks & will ruin GPAs
If you want an A, make sure this is the only class you're taking in a semester. Online quizzes and study guides do nothing for the exams. Too much effort was put into the class to receive disappointing grades on the exams (76 on the first, 69 on the second)
There are 3 tests (30% each), 50 MC. Her powerpoints contain MINIMAL information and she doesn't even provide a book to study from. She is a funny lecturer, but she mostly rambles off of her own personal notes from the Internet throughout class. I'm definitely NOT taking another class with her again. This class will just bring your GPA down.
Professor Mayhew is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also an excellent teacher. The material is not easy, but she gives you review questions that tell you specifically what you need to know for the tests. She also gives extra credit clicker questions and open notes online quizzes. I got As on the exams without too much difficulty.
Estelle Mayhew is an excellent teacher. What you put into the class is what you get out of it. It is a lot of studying but if you keep up with it, you will be fine. Just memorize everything and you will be okay. Definitely not an easy A but the first 2 exams were not as bad as I expected (100 on both). She is a very intelligent woman, great lecture
Beware! Although she gives extra credit, it is a very difficult class. You can definitely pass the class, it is just A LOT of effort and work. Definitely not an easy A
I hardly went to class after the 1st exam & got an A in her class. Memorize her slides & DO EVERY STUDY GUIDE. It reviews EVERYTHING, which is helpful for the exams. I did them & aced the exams. The quizzes are annoying, sometimes tricky, but open notes which means getting decent grades on them isn't impossible. Effort people!!!! Minimal at that.
I've taken 4 classes with Mayhew and never regretted a single one. If you know her study guides like the back of your hand you'll do well, period. Neuro was the toughest one of her classes only because of all the information you have to remember, so I wouldn't advise taking it with anything else memorisation-heavy.
Although attendance is not mandatory she gives clicker questions and this is your chance to earn extra credit. Her class consists of 3 exams thats including the final. The final is just her norma exams. 5 virtual teen assignments which counts for 10% of your grade. I recommend her but if you go to her office hours she will be rude to you. Beware.
She is an awesome professor. She knows the material inside and out and can answer most questions presented to her. If not, she will always make an effort to find it out for you. Gives online quizzes and clicker questions for extra credit. 3 non cumulative exams. She gives you review questions for the exam. Just put in effort and you'll pass.
Prof. Mayhew the material is interesting. Review questions for her exams are all I used to prepare for the exams and I did very well on them, but I also attended all her classes because she give out 2 point EC for doing clicker questions and gives skeleton notes on sakai. 5 virtual teen assignments 2pts/assignment which the grading is fair.
Dr. Mayhew is an outstanding professor. Very knowledgeable and a very good lecturer. The material she teaches is original and interesting. Neuro is a challenging class but by no means overly demanding. Time management is key. Do all review questions with care and you will manage to well in this class. This is a quality class. Recommended.
She's alright. Very knowledgeable, gives (too many) review questions (she gives 200ish when the exams are only 50), and answers every question. Mayhew tends to drone a lot and give you a lot of info, and you really need to write everything down. Quizlet will be your best friend. No textbook. Exams are hard, must study for multiple days. Good luck
Very nice and funny woman who is knowledgeable about the subject matter. Lectures are mandatory as the slides posted online are barely an outline; if you skip class you're doomed if you don't get the notes from someone else. It's a lot of information but as long as you keep up with the review questions you should do fine on the exams.
She's very funny and very knowledgable. This class isn't an easy A. It's a lot of memorization but if you do the review questions, take really good notes, study way in advance, do the quizzes, pay attention to the videos in class and answer the clicker questions you'll do fine. Tip for exams: know the medical jargon she uses.
I liked Professor Mayhew. She's very knowledgeable, so there's a lot of information to memorize, but as long as you do the review questions and study for a couple of days, an A is pretty manageable. The 2nd exam is definitely the hardest. Attendance isn't required but DON'T SKIP CLASS! The powerpoints are all skeleton notes.
She is a good professor but tends to go off on tangents. I would suggest you go to class and take good notes. Her exams are hard and you need to know her study guides to do well. If you can get by without taking this class, I would suggest doing so.
The class is based on 3 noncumulative exams and virtual teen assignments. She also gives up to 4 extra points for clicker questions during lecture. The exams were alright; if you just look over the review questions you should be fine. She can off-topic sometimes during lectures, but overall she is an okay professor.
Easy A! There are 3 non-cumulative exams and 5 short assignments. She grades fairly and the questions relate directly to her lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives extra credit for answering clicker questions during class. She uploads guided note sheets online, but you should attend class or read the textbook to fully understand them.
Dr. Mayhew genuinely cares about the subjects she teaches. I took her for Adolescent Development this semester, and I plan on taking Neuropsych with her sometime in the future. All you need to do to prepare for exams is fill out her chapter questions as a study guide. Her exams are all multiple choice and are straightforward.
She's a pretty good professor and explains thing pretty clearly. Just look at her review questions to prep for the tests and you're okay. Attendance is basically extra-credit, but take advantage! You can get up to 4 points added to your final grade. Overall good class.
3 noncumulative exams, 5 virtual teen assignments, and 4 extra cred pts is all your grade is based off of. going to lecture is mandatory since her review questions (study guide) is based off extra lecture material and she gives clicker questions for possible extra credit points (up to 4). virtual teen assignments are do-able
A crazy lot of detailed material, but super straightforward exams - no tricks. Harder than your average psych class, but way easier than any bio classes. No mandatory attendance, but easy extra credit if you go, and it's a class you need to go to for good notes, anyway. Great professor, explained things in a way that made it easier to remember.
straight forward slides & information. highly recommend sitting in the front and coming to class w the slides already printed- this is the best way to takes notes in her class. prof is very nice and understanding and really wants to help you. attendance isn't required but you get super easy EC points of you show up. 3 MC tests, easy if you study
Absolutely loved her! She is very straightforward on exams. You do have to put some work in or you will not do good. I suggest doing her review questions after every lecture it truly helps you retain everything! also print out the slides beforehand!
If you're taking genpsych DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Find one with a recitation bc this class was the biggest headache ever. Prof Mayhew was so nice and a great lecturer, but the content and exams were so hard it took up all of my time. All my friends who took it with a recitation did great, but I did awful bc of the tests given in her specific class.
Amazing, intellegent, entertaining professor. Dense memorization of details and concepts. Grade is only based on three exams and easy weekly quizzes, clickers for EC. The most interesting and most difficult class I've ever taken. Go to class and pay attention! Answers all questions in and out of class. No textbook or readings
I do not understand the negative feedback here at all. She is easy to reach for office hours and knows her stuff very well. She is not an easy A but if you go to class and do the clicker questions you will be fine. She is not an easy professor but she is a great one
She makes learning about the brain so interesting. Lots of people struggled on her tests, but DO THE REVIEW QUESTIONS you will do well. I did the review questions for every lecture and that was the only thing I studied for the tests and I did well on all of them. Tests are not cumulative.
Yes, the exams are hard, of course its neuropsychology do not expect an easy A. However, if you do the review questions you will pass the exams. Look things up on quizlet to get advice from people who have taken the class before. Not all that hard you just have to be willing to study harder than for most psych classes.
She's very sweet and cares that you get a good grade, there were a few small extra credit opportunities + xtra credit for clicker questions during lecture. Exams are NONCUMULATIVE :) and easy for me, a lot of questions seemed like common sense/logic. Other than 3 exams there are online Inquizitive assignments, which are easy to get 100's on.
As long as you pay attention to the lectures and do the review questions she gives before the exams, you won't have to study a lot for this class. The exams are noncumulative, but the lectures can get pretty dull at times.
Professor Mayhew gives great lectures, she is funny and engaging. She sometimes tends to go on tangents or miscalculates the amount of time in a lecture. There is extra credit for going to class. If you do the review questions you will be fine.
I had her for Adol and took her for AdultDev and she's very knowledgeable and caring. 3 non-cumulative exams and little hw. Exams are straightforward; I didn't buy the book but I did attend lectures (EC points if you answer clicker questions) Study the review sheets and you should be good to go
Mayhew was one of my favorite professors because she's super funny and caring. Although she is old, she wants her students to succeed and she makes the material fun to learn with videos and personal stories. She's very knowledgeable. Also, it's hard to not pass the class considering you have multiple tries to get a 100 on Inquizitive.
She is the most understanding professor here at Rutgers. She is really good at explaining and relating the information to relevant topics. Take her!!
The class itself is not bad, but she purposely makes all of her exams for her classes the same day so do not take her for more than one class if lectures fall on the same day! Other than that this class is pretty easy just do the reviews and you'll be good
Yes, this material is difficult but she's a really funny and engaging professor. I definitely feel that she makes the effort to teach you and doesn't mind reiterating concepts that may be confusing. I've learned a lot in this class, but you should take it only if you feel motivated to study a lot. Review questions are extremely helpful!
Don't miss the lectures because she talks way more in detail during lecture, slides are very surface level. I do the review sheets the day after they come out and that has made it easier for me to understand and be less stressed. If you like to learn about rare disorders and brain body behavior this class is it. Always kept me fascinated
I hated this class, DONT TAKE IT
This should not be considered a psych class! only take if you are premed and plan on becoming a doctor. one of the most confusing and difficult classes ive ever taken at Rutgers.
Hands down the most difficult course I've taken at Rutgers. Really regret taking this class. No matter how much I studied, I was not able to keep up with the info since its a premed course.
Such a hard class. recommend either not taking it, or finding a different professor.
Really difficult subject. Final included information we hadn't even gotten to yet. Take a different professor or different course if you can.
2 exams and a final that's not cumulative, clicker questions, quizzes that are always online, exams are so easy with class information and review questions.
Very blunt professor yet still enjoyable. She does not mean to be harsh but people still get offended. Tends to ramble on the material so chronically behind the syllabus. 3 exams and virtual teen assignments. Do the review questions to prepare for exam. Questions on the exam are worded poorly so move slow. 4pts extra credit. Learned a lot from her
easy A on all the exams if you answer the review questions she posts on sakai. To be honest, you really do not even need to attend lecture if you have the textbook but attendance helps with extra credit through clicker points
oh my god DO NOT TAKE HER. the exams are VERY lecture heavy but the lectures are DREADFUL. she goes off topic ALLLLL the time and never stays on topic which makes it so hard to pay attention the whole time... this class is the most brutal class i've taken. she gives u study guides with SO MUCH info and only asks about one third of it on the exam
This is a lecture heavy class but she's an awesome professor! But she will make you work for that A! if you miss class her slides don't contain that much information and though the textbook is not mandatory, it does not have much material that will help. She may come off unapproachable, but she's actually nice
Took her for adult development and aging, and it was so hard, all she does is lecture and read from the slides, she gives study guides which I filled out and studied so hard for, ended up with a B, interesting class but hard professor
She is a horrible and discouraging professor . Is not willing to help you and treats you like youre stupid if you do not understand the material. I have never had a professor so disrespectful.
I've had her for neuropsy and I'm taking her for adol dev this semester. She's one of my favorite professors and I learned a lot from her class. You have to be willing to put in the effort to do well. Her study guides are super helpful at narrowing down what to study. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you can get extra credit through it!
Lecture heavy class, but if you pay attention in class, it is not difficult to get a good grade. Her Adolescent Dev. class has 4 assignments and 3 exams, but they are not difficult. I've taken her for neuropsych and adolescent dev. and I would take her again! make sure you come to class though!
A great, practical, not super hard class with an awesome, knowledgeable, hilarious prof. She makes sure to answer your class questions in depth after class in direct emails to you. 3 noncumulative exams, no final, 5 easy assignments from raising a virtual kid, and EC from clicker Qs, but SHOW UP TO CLASS cuz she doesn't post slides
10/10 do not recommend. She does not care about her students and wants to make the struggle.
She was a great detailed lecturer and the class doesn't get boring bc she's witty. Sometimes she can drag on with the topic though. Her lectures are very important and it's a solid choice to take notes because her exams are mostly everything in her notes and what she says in class. Study that and it's an easy A. Clicker points are important too!
really straightforward professor; all the review answers can be found on quizlet which is exactly like the test. textbook not necessary. definitely have to go to class but lecture is never boring
She is one of the smartest professors I have ever had and was very genuine with her students during the pandemic.
is a horrible professor. she is rude , she does not work with you and expects that you know the material prior. She is one of those professors that seems to have only become a professor to take her negative experiences out on her students. I am amazed that there is as many high ratings as there is .
Discouraging professor. she is rude. makes you feel stupid . overall a horrible professor.
This teacher makes the online lectures too long, her voice makes my ears ring. She posts them days later with no real reason why, but that causes everyone to fall behind in the quizzy and ZAP part of class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IT SUCKS
I love her! You will not regret taking her AS LONG as you are actually interested in the class and dedicated to the work. Its really not that hard but you have to study to do well and go to class. She may be intimidating and harsh at times but she her lectures are so interesting. Neuropsych was my favorite class i miss it :(
asynch fall 2020 psych101, she uploads lectures twice a week. watch them, take notes (which you can use on homework and exams), and it's an easy A. i thought her lectures were very interesting, only downside is that homework is in the form of "quizzies" and "ZAPS", which you have to pay access for (no way around it :( overall good professor! :)
Multiple quizzes which are nice because they boast your grade but too overwhelming. Literally almost 30 quizzes a semester, which is about 2-3 a week. Couples with mini exams. I had COVID & she wouldnt even let me make up one (only allows a makeup if you miss 2, which makes absolutely 0 sense)
Mayhew is give or take. Honestly, you can tell she is very intelligent and knows her material, however the PowerPoints can be very long and sometimes boring. Assignments were online using Inquisitive and ZAPS (easy). The quizzes are tricky sometimes but its open notes. If you put in effort, you'll pass. She ignores emails though so..
COVID CLASS went like this. She posts pre-recorded lectures twice a week and they that take about 45 to 1 1/2 hours to watch (20 to 30 slides). She uploads Review Q's (optional) that come in handy for the mini-exams. Quizzy and Zaps are like hw (easy). Have to participate in online studies. Class felt like a drag but it wasn't difficult to pass.
!!Had her during Covid!! Very easy class as long as you take GOOD notes on her lecture. No EC but theres enough easy "quizzies" to boost grade (just online game type stuff that is an 100). Need to do a little textbook reading, unfortunately. I cant speak for other profs but I would definitely suggest Mayhew.
Nice professor, bit of a slow grader though. 6 mini exams and a cumulative final. Exams are not too difficult, just watch her lectures and take notes. She drops one mini exam. With every lecture video she posts a "quizzy". They aren't hard but do them because any points over 20 is extra credit. She is a very slow grader though with the quizzys.
Rambles a lot and her lectures are kind of dry. She briefly touches on the topics but asks detailed conceptual questions on the mini- exams because she expects students to read the textbook. Review questions are insane because there's like 20 open ended questions for each lecture (optional). Also doesn't reply to emails so don't expect any help
6 Mini exams about every 2 weeks and short "quizzies" after lectures which are short little assignments or a few questions. Content was pretty interesting, just watch the lectures at like 1.75 speed to get through them bc they can be pretty slow. Posts each lecture but takes it down 4 days later but reposts them all before each mini exam.
I took the course asynchronously, so the class was easy and lectures were really interesting. Exam questions are very conceptual and situational, but easy as long as you understand the lectures. Hw is Inquizitives and Zaps, but the last couple are extra credit.
Dr. Mayhew is the best professor I've had at Rutgers. I took Neuropsych online (Covid) and her excitement and enthusiasm about the topics made the class SO informative and interesting that I looked forward to her lectures. She's hilarious, straight-forward, and grades based on many small things so you can get as many points as possible.
I took Professor Mayhew Fall 2020 virtual and asynch. If you just watch the lectures and take thorough notes. You're pretty much good to go for the 6 quizzes. The ZAPS and Inquizitive quizzes help and aren't particularly hard so easy points. The class is fairly straightforward and an easy A or B.
Prof Mayhew is a great professor of Psychology at Rutgers. She is a nice grader, but she doesnt just hand out As. You have to show genuine growth in her class, which isnt even that hard in the first place, but she will give you the grade you really do deserve.
I had a great time taking psych with Dr. Mayhew. She is sarcastic at times which made me laugh. She is knowledgeable in her field and tells great stories of studies she has been a part of or conducted. The class itself is difficult, but I believe that is just the nature of the course because there is so much to cover. Answers emails quickly too!
BEYOND AWFUL! The lecture is really heavy. You CANT skip voicethreads and expect to pass. Yes quizies can be found online but the test are extremely hard and cant be traced anywhere. She rewords the exam and they are really tricky. Honestly dont take this class if you are expecting an easy A let alone B. Im currently struggling rn
Just because we are currently in a pandemic doesn't make this class any easier.. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE AND EXPECT TO PASS WITHOUT CRYING YOURSELF TO SLEEP!
She offers a lot of assignments, 2 quizzies every week(basically surveys or just asking you how your virtual teen is), 5 mini exams, and a final. The mini exams are 25 mc and you should be fine if you review her lectures) and I haven't taken her final yet. I'd say her class is straightforward and simple and it helps that the topic is interesting
I took Neuropsychology with her and she was a great and enjoyable lecturer with a lot of stories to tell and would always answer questions. That said, Neuro itself is quite a bit of work and requires a lot of memorization to do well. Her exams were on the hard side though.
Took this during COVID. Long lectures but if you're interested in the material, willing to take notes, and put in the work, in my opinion it's worth it. Lots of opportunity for points, but you HAVE TO KNOW YOUR DUE DATES. Use the review questions to help study. She's articulate, great at explaining concepts, and just an overall great professor.
Do the Quizzies and actually try on them. Exam questions are almost always worded badly. Her lectures are very long!!!! Will get very old, however you need everything in her lectures. Took this class during Covid, open notes for everything but still hard cause of word choice.
I took Neuropsych online during covid and I enjoyed the class. The lectures can get a bit dry, but for the most part interesting. If you want a good grade you definitely need to watch them and take good notes because the lectures are taken down the day of the exams (are open note though). Overall its a good class, work hard and youll be fine.
Not too difficult, but notes are definitely necessary since the lectures come down a week after they are released. I like her bluntness, personality, and how she describes the topics in layman's terms for more comprehension. Quizzy assignments provide for a nice source of extra credit. Quiz questions can oftentimes be worded in a confusing way.
Dr. Mayhew was a very knowledgeable professor about neuropsychology. However, she has no idea, how to make a fair test, and respond to emails properly. I was .21% away from a B+, and I emailed her twice, and she did not even respond to my email for boosting me to a B+. Her lectures, are quite tedious but the quizzies are super helpful.
Material was insteresting but she has no idea what she is doing some of the questions on exams were completely different from lectures and this class didnt seem anything close to psychology. I would recommend a different class,
I had emailed her two months ago, sent a follow up email twice but didn't respond. Makes exam so difficult. I don't recommend taking a class with her at all. I had a worst experience.
Neuropsychology is a interesting class, but this professor made it worst, being harsh for no reason. It feels like she just wants to torture students. Making exams difficult is one thing, but taking down all the lecture videos and power points just before four days of final exam is inhumane. Doesn't make any sense except torturing the students!!!!!
Dr. Mayhew is very intelligent and knowledgeable on all things neuro, however her lectures were unclear, difficult to understand, and unorganized. Additionally, the course was asynchronous yet she would assign two 90-minute lectures twice a week, and would take them down. She does not respond to student emails, and when she does she seems bothered.
Don't take her class, that is all I can say! Worst professor ever!
This professor has been a nightmare to our entire class, she does not care about the students well being and mental health. She removes lectures and boasts about how we are allowed to view them in a week long period. She does not offer any help whatsoever and never takes criticism for her mistakes. You are just a teacher you are not a drill Sargent
to prospective future students: dont let the these positive reviews fool you like i was. truly one of the worst professors i have ever had. she doesnt care for students in the slightest, and she only keep her very detailed lectures up for a week. quizzys DO NOT match her exams, tricky wording. if you want to pass, DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
If you want to take a class with this professor, keep the dean's and department's contacts handy. Because you won't get a reply of your email unless you contact deans and department at the end of the semester. She is a knowledgeable person but literally can't teach. Don't do the same mistake I did!
she is strict for no reason. only take this class if you HAVE to. but I advise you to skip this class for your sanity. there's a textbook that doesn't get used. Most info is from the lecture that isn't even available for more than a week, lord knows why? You can't go back to previous Qs on canvas exams, also why? This class was unnecessarily hard
this class was so ridiculous I dont think I actually learned anything that I will remember because I am so focused on just barely passing. The material is interesting but she will ruin it for you, her wording on any assessment is beyond confusing and you are given limited time, do yourself a favor and don't take this class
So sad because this class itself is so interesting. However, this professor was so awful at her job and does not care about students concern when it comes to how the class is structured. If you have to take this class, make some extra time for it and have the dean of psych's email handy. If you do not have to take it, take physiological psych.
Ok so she is very funny and her lectures are a little interesting. But her exams are absolutely nothing like the review questions. Her wording is extremely weird. If your gonna give out exams with every question utilizing real world application with everything we learned, then prepare us better for the exam!! There was no way to study for the exams
No psych in the class it's all anatomy. The lectures are interesting but long & she takes them down after a week. The tests can be difficult. This class has a lot of info you have to remember and you can't fall behind or else you will fail. This class was hard but I learned a lot of great things.
This is definitely an intro course, so don't expect to get too deep into any specific topic. It really feels like you learn more about the body than anything psychology-related. This is not a class where you can study the night before and expect to do well on exams. The bulk of your grade comes from 3 exams. Lectures can be interesting at times.
I got a C on both midterms but still managed to get an A in the class by the grace of God due to the ZAPs, Quizzys, and extra credit. The tests are pretty hard so study, show up to class, and read. She's funny and interesting though so it isn't too bad.
Prof Mayhew was the worst professor I have had. she posts lecture notes online that are the same as her slides but a lot of the stuff on exams are not on her slides. she will not round up your grade. also makes you pay for tophat in order to receive extra credit. if you dont have to take her i wouldn't
Professor Mayhew was a good lecturer, but her exams were pretty hard. A lot of people did bad so she had to change the weighting of the exams (which are worth most of your grade). Definitely not a class that you can just memorize things. Need to be able to apply everything.
Professor Mayhew is an okay Professor. Her lectures are hard to follow, there is so much info thrown at you at once its hard to keep. She's not very understanding, or helpful when it comes to help with your grade or course material. I wouldn't take this course if you don't have to, and I wouldn't take this professor if there are other options.
I was a student that made an effort to go to every class unless sick and took detailed notes every class. I studied for hours on end and still managed to get a D in her class. Said in the start of the class that there was a lot of information yet never reviewed for tests and would go into lectures not on the upcoming test. Don't recommend. RUN.
She was obnoxious and inconsiderate. Tests are extremely hard and a lot of the material on the test would not even be discussed in lectures or slides. Homework barely holds any weight on your grade and there's no extra credit despite the impossible tests most of the class fails. If the class isn't necessary, run away.
10 assignments overall, that had the potential to hurt your grade but would not help it either. The professor's exams contained confusing and improper grammar. Neither the professor or TA was accessible outside of class. Professor unwilling to correct grading mistakes, even if the assignment/exam question was right. Uncaring and condescending prof.
Overall, very unorganized and not very accessible outside of class. She's a really good lecturer and is very captivating, just isn't the best at the other parts of being a professor. Take this class if you want to learn, but if you're concerned about your grade, I'd skip it.
Neuropsych was not an easy A at all and requires lots of effort and studying. Exams include questions that are detailed and can be tricky. Otherwise, professor Mayhew clearly is passionate about what she teaches and makes the class interesting. Study ahead of time and memorize the review questions, you'll do fine.
STUDY THE TEXTBOOK I got D's the first two exams and managed to get an A on the last one when I decided to thoroughly read the textbook. You will learn a lot in the class, exams can be tricky because there is so much info to study. Overall you have to actually try hard in this class but content was interesting.
The most amazing and interesting classes I have ever taken. Only take this course if you're already interested in the subject because you have to take amazing notes and memorize every tiny detail to ensure an A. Amazing teacher though, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable despite it not being her field. Very hard, but a 10/10 class and professor!
If you can avoid this prof, do it. Only grades based on tests and 5% extra credit that you have to pay $30 for. Sure she can be funny and makes jokes, but her tests don't include anything in the study guides and literally said she wants to trick us. Always behind on emails. takes long to answer them. Im a straight A student & this will be my 1st C.
I was surprised to see negative reviews about Professor Mayhew on here because I got an A in her course and I think she's funny and that her lectures are interesting and pretty chill. The workload isn't bad in my opinion, the exams are similar to the review questions, and the assignments are interesting and not too time consuming.
Course is interesting and prof is smart but course is structured horribly. Exams worth 90% and the only other thing that brings your grade up is quizzes and extra credit which you have to pay for. Only way to learn is by listening to her lectures - no other resources rlly. Does not seem to care much about her students. Not horrible but not great.
The class really isn't all that bad in my opinion. You def have to study for this class tho Use these quizlets: Exam 1: quizlet DOT com/695763245/neuropsych-exam-1-flash-cards/ Exam 2: quizlet DOT com/745687846/neuropsych-exam-2-flash-cards/ Exam 3: quizlet DOT com/758226229/neuropsychology-exam-3-flash-cards/
While exams are worth 90% of your grade, they're extremely straightforward and easy to study for. Mayhew is an amazing professor, her lectures are easy to follow and she tells interesting stories that relate to the topics we discuss! I would take her again!
The workload for this being an Asynchronous course is unbelievable. There are about 9 hours of work due each week and many lecture videos. It is not worth taking this class, especially as an asynchronous one. Just take an in-person course, I promise it is way less work.
Professor Mayhew is a funny, kind, and understandable person. The majority of the grades are the exams, 90%, and the rest are quizzes and multiple choice assignments that boost your grade. You NEED to attend lectures in order to pass!!!!! If you go to class and study, you'll get an A. The material is really interesting too!
You will learn the most in this class. Attending lecture is required, exams are fair game if you study well!!! Professor Mayhew is very knowledgeable & she makes lecture incredibly interesting. I recommend this class if you actually want to learn something.
Dr. Mayhew is entertaining and knowledgeable. However, you NEED to attend each class. Although slides are posted, you need to take detailed notes during lecture. Study at least 1-2 weeks everyday in advance of exams and ask lots of questions. Grade is based on 3 exams, 10 open note MC quizzes, and clicker questions. If you study, you'll do fine.
Professor Mayhew was one of the best professors I have had at Rutgers. If you show up to class and study, you will do well. She is very passionate about what she does.
mayhew lectures fast but very well. attendance isnt mandatory but go anyways to get extra credit via clicker questions which help a lot & u need to go to lecture to learn anything bc her slides r j skeleton slides. material is dense but if u clearly understand it the tests r straightforward. straightup j memorize everything from lecture ull b good.
Amazing professor, super passionate about her work. It's easy to concentrate in class because she is hilarious and cracks jokes, not only that but she explains well and answers all questions. Pple saying her tests are hard probably did not study correctly. Tests are a breeze if you do the review Qs because the review Qs are exact same as the test.
She's honestly a really nice, passionate, and funny person. But her exams are 85% of the grade, and they are in person on paper. So, if you don't do well on the tests, you won't do well in the class. They are pretty tough in my experience, and I definitely would not take her again.
If you're looking to bs a psych class, do not take Mayhew. You (and your gpa) will suffer. However, if you're looking to learn and actually try in class for once, take her! She is extremely knowledgable on the subject she teaches but does tend do go a bit fast. However, if you take good notes and study the review qs, you'll do great! It's v doable!
The professor is condescending. Expects people to take this course due to interest, not remembering it is a requirement for some. She makes it even more difficult by basing 90% of your grade on closed-book exams. I memorized every word on 200 note cards and still got an 80. Only EC is a $35 app which you need to get every Q right for .5%... Awful
3 exams decide the entire course grade, exams are difficult. Her lectures are boring and it is more of a history course than a psych course. Would not take her again
Definitely not a low effort class, but the content is interesting. Grade is 85% based on exams, and the writing assignments are incredibly easy. Exams aren't hard though: you just have to memorize. Easy A if you listen to her and study from the study guide.
I don't understand why there are any negative ratings about this professor. Your grade is based on how much work you put in. She makes it clear on the first day that this is a hard course and there is a lot of memorization. The course itself is lecture heavy. More lectures you attend, the better your grade is. Take advantage of the extra credit!!
She was absolutely so rude. I went to her multiple times for help with the extra credit I paid for and she was not understanding and very short. She makes this class WAY harder than it should be. DO NOT RECOMMEND if you are looking for a fun elective
Overall she is actually very nice, if you are not a good test taker I do not recommend her. She has 3 test all totaling up to around 85% of your grade so if you fail you are screwed.
Mayhew is funny and so knowledgeable. Had her for Media Psych/Neuropsych spring of my 1st year, and got an A in both. She's funny, reasonable, and I personally found both classes pretty interesting. If you show up, are good at studying, and you like psych, you'll prob do well/enjoy it :) Also, MP is particularly relevant/interactive, which is cool.
This is my second class with Professor Mayhew. She's very knowledgeable and hilarious. This class is difficult but it's doable. Make sure to take really good notes during class and study ahead of time! There is A LOT of information. I usually studied 1-1.5 weeks in advance and mostly studied from the review questions/ online quizlets!
Dr. Mayhew's classes are very straightforward if you go to class. Make sure to take good notes on things she says, even if they aren't in the slides. For the exams, just study straight from her practice questions that she posts for each lecture. Those cover every single topic that will appear on the exam. If you do that, it's an easy A.
This class is significantly easier than her other classes. In my opinion, as long as you study from the study questions, you'll do great. A lot of the information is common sense, but it's still important to go to class. There's also a fun assignment where you take care of a baby.
Professor Mayhew is very straightforward. She tells you how she teaches and if you don't like it you can leave her class. Overall, she is a great professor and wants to hear from her students. She does extra credit clicker questions for attendance but you don't have to go. Exams are based on her study guide but to grasp what she teaches go to class
Professor Mayhew is knowledgeable and engaging. Attendance is a must, and studying 1-2 weeks in advance is key. Use unstuckstudy AI alongside other resources like Quizlet to ace the exams. Though challenging, the material is fascinating.
Amazing and caring
Rude professor with a confrontational and condescending attitude. Steer clear if possible.
Good teacher as long as you show up, take notes and study. Exams are kind of hard but as long as you study you will be fine.
Did not reply to student emails and grading was extremely harsh
Reviewing to save someone from the same mistake I made. This is an anatomy class. You gotta memorize so many brain parts and definitions. It made me want to rip my hair out. If you are a psych major just looking to fill your requirements DO NOT TAKE THIS ONE.
Save yourself a headache and take someone else
I'm still taking this course currently and I love studying anatomy but this course is very intense. If you have no prior knowledge of anatomy of the brain or no understanding of how to study anatomy I don't recommend this course. Her lectures aren't mandatory but if you miss one you have to know someone in the class in order to know what you missed
The course is dense so you need a strong background. To do well on exams (all in person), you have to review the slides/your notes before and after every lecture. She speeds through the material in class and often ends up skipping some of it (which is still on exams). Class participation can give you extra credit.
This class was tough, but take good notes and study for every exam and you will be fine. In-class participation helps a lot with boosting your grade as well as the weekly quizzes. She recommends taking notes on paper, and it really helps.
mayhew is knowledgeable, funny, & nice, and adolescent development is a very easy class. all exam content comes from lectures and she gives you review questions from each lecture so you know exactly what to study. you need to raise a virtual child as part of your grade and it's pretty fun. definitely recommend taking this class with mayhew!
neuropsych is supposed to be a hard class. if you show up, take good notes, you're going to pass. she's extremely accessible outside of class and very funny and relatable. neuropsych is a dense topic, so obviously don't take it if you're expecting an easy A on a platter. study in advance, do the extremely easy homework, and you're going to do well.
Class content is interesting and reasonably challenging. Class attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps improve grades and understanding. Exams and assignments aren't difficult if you keep up with class content. Overall, a really nice professor who doesn't make class hard to pass.
As a freshman, taking this was very intimidating at first. As long as you don't skip class, take good notes, and study, you should be fine. The lectures have a lot of content, but she is very knowledgeable and teaches in a way that makes you understand it. Also take advantage of any extra credit that is offered.
Mayhew is an amazing professor! I took this class as a freshman and thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. If you put in the work, you will definitely get an A. If anything, GO TO LECTURE! Outline: - 3 Exams: 2 exams (28% each), 1 final (29%) - Online quizzes (15%) - EC clickers (5%) and quiz (1%)
