very good teacher, passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. very willing to help students outside of class. before each exam she lets you know ALL of the material that you will be tested on. gives good clues on what to focus on extra while studying
Amazing teacher. She is extremely excited and enthusiatic about the material. Also she is always willing to meet with students for help. Quizes are straight from the notes however, exams are hard. You must read and understand the material in the book. I loved this class!!!
Good teacher but test are very hard and she does not let you know what will be covered on them.
the best teacher i've had in college. gets to know her students and will go out of her way to help anyone. class is very interesting, although challenging. the material is explained clearly and she lets you know what she expects. she's really funny too
Definitely the best professor I've had @ UMBC. The content is enormous, holds students responsible for EVERYTHING. Material may seem rushed but do text review questions and you will do well on quizzes and exams. Exams are fair, but very difficult if you don't know your stuff! DON'T SKIP A CLASS! Approachable, helpful, enthusiastic.

Dr. Fleischmann is an awesome teacher and very helpful. Anatomy is a hard subject, but she was very nice and always willing to take the time to make you understand the material.
really good professor. extremely challenging material, but she can explain it in a way to make you understand. if you still dont get it she will go over it again and again untill you understand. she wants her students to do well
Great professor who wants her students to do well. Subject is hard, but she will help you at any cost! Likes to get to know her students and is very straight up about what she expects.
LOVE HER! she's def one of the best lecturers i've ever had! really wants all her students to do well and you know she enjoys teaching the subject. her lectures are interesting and the labs are very hands-on. go to class, take notes, and go to open labs!

Prof. Fleischmann is THE BEST professor in the bio department. I had her for both 251 and 252 she is funny, enthusiastic, and very approachable. The course is terribly difficult, but she does a great job of explaining it, and exams are fair if you study. I took the class for nursing school, and I am completely prepared for my nursing courses.
She is very enthusiastic about anatomy topics which rubs off on you during class. Go to all of her lectures and read the textbook if you need further clarification. Quizzes are mainly based on the lectures and end of chapter quizzes in the textbook. But read the book for the exams since they cover more in depth material.
Great teacher, she loves the material, she loves the lecture, ans she almost always lets out early. She is extremely helpful outside of class, and she explains everything very clearly. couldn't have passed it with out her.
The class is EXTREMELY hard. You WILL fail if you don't put work in. She is rude to some people and def. has favortie students. I talked to her once and she immediatley accused me of not studying. She is enthusiastic and funny at times, but intimidating to. She wasn't in my lab class which I liked becuase i'd be scared havign her there. I dont like
She is the worst teacher I have ever had at UMBC. She critizes students and acts like she's GOD. Her class is BS!
Take the class somewhere else!! It will save you alot of sleepless nights.
If you go talk to her about your grade she will accuse you of not studying. Avoid her at all costs!!
not someone you want to go to if you have a question about your grade. i liked her though, her lectures were clear and her tests didn't have hidden tricks. make sure to keep track of your own grade because she refuses to learn to use blackboard, but overall a good teacher
great professor, very clear. study hard for the bone/muscle tests. fair unit exams. the subject is difficult- you must study..cannot blame Fleischmann if you don't study hard enough and don't do well
very good professor. hard course but an A is definitely possible. my suggestion is to take it during a full semester (fall/spring), and not summer or winter because it is a LOT to memorize and learn and you need time. study hard!
If you have to take this class make sure you do not take any more difficult classes it requires alot of time. I recommend taking the class somewhere else. Do not even try to ask questions either in class or outside of class b/c you will get a sarastic response!!
You will either be a favorite or not. If you are not a favorite you better make this class your life!
One of the best professors I've had. Lets you know right off the bat that you have to study A LOT! the material is basically all memorization if you're good at that you'll do great in this class. Make sure you start studying day 1 of class and don't stop till final. Great class A's just require lots of study time.
Had her for both bio 251, 252. She's an amazing professor, clear on what we should learn, and she breaks it down so it is simpler. She will answer your questions, but only if they are relevant to subject matter. Study hard because there is a LOT of material. If you slack, you are screwed. An A is absolutely possible.
This teacher is enthusiastic about anatomy and teaches it well. But she has drawbacks in the way she talks to people one on one. I have seen on mutiple instances where she mocks people if she thinks the question was bad. Handwriting is worse than the doctors that I intern for which is saying alot. Expect to learn most of the things on your own.
She's a tough teacher but a damn good one.
She is FAIR. If you study for all the exams and NOT Cram, then its an easy A. My favorite subject is Anatomy and Physiology so I enjoyed it and wouldnt have wanted to take it with any other professor! But I do wish she curved a little..b/c i did cram for some of my exams..:( 88% is a B...
I recommend taking one other class at most, reading the textbook & paying attention in class. I liked her teaching b/c she's really enthusiastic & seems to know the material very well, but in person, she might seem a little rude. Overall, I think this is one of my best classes.
Dr. Fleischmann is a very enthusiastic and passionate professor. She often relates the subject matter to the lifestyles of her students as examples throughout the course, which can make a difficult concept easier to grasp. Her exams are straightforward and are heavily weighted towards the notes given in class. I recommend making flashcards :)
DO NOT get on her bad side.
She's a great teacher and you end up learning so much from her. She's a fair person and her exams/quizzes aren't so bad IF you study. If you don't read, attend lecture, and study...you're screwed. You're lucky to pass. Only complaint is that she has favorites and it really shows--i hate that about her. She's kind of intimidating but she's not bad.
I love love LOVE Dr. Fleischmann. She is enthusiastic and quirky, as well as very knowledgeable about anatomy. It's A & P, so people who wine about it being hard are lame, of course it's hard. You don't actually have to read the chapters to do well, but study any figures she shows you, & go to class. I will seriously miss her next semester
Awesome lady! So enthusiastic about teaching and the content of the course. Very clear on what you need to know for exams. Used the book minimally, just to look over diagrams shown in class. Study her lecture notes and make flashcards. FLASHCARDS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND. Especially for the bones and muscles!
Professor Fleischmann is a great lecturer - I didn't read anything out of the textbook after exam 1 and did fine. However, this is not an easy class. She's a tough grader and will mark you wrong for almost anything. Exams and quizzes are very difficult. Way harder than I expected for a 200 level class. I would say try to take it w/ Leupen instead.
Terrible
Marks down wrong for each and everything. Avoid if possible.
This class is hard, but a good grade is possible if you study really hard. Plan ahead and put the majority of your study time into this class. She is very nice and willing to help, but you have to put in effort yourself. She is one of the best professors I've had. B's are easily attainable if you study.
She is a great lecturer and professor. However, she tests very specifically. Her exams are given in all forms (multiple choice, short answer, T/F, etc.) so you must study well. As long as you attend class, take notes, and put the time and effort to study, it is possible to do very well in the class. I learned so much to take with me in this class.
Very passionate about A&P. Do not understand material, get help ASAP all the content builds on itself. Her personality gives an off putting vibe but if you show up to her office hours she's willing to help 100%. Will MAKE YOU WORK for grade. MUST STUDY to pass, quizzes are somewhat easier, tests ARE TOUGH. VERY PARTICULAR GRADER.
Professor Fleischmann is extremely knowledgable in A&P and really loves what she is doing. She's very willing to help and wants to get to know her students, even though she has hundreds of them. You definitely need to study hard, and you never get a break from studying for her class. Wish that I had more time to study for her class last semester
she is an awesome professor because you can tell that she is very passionate about what she teaches. during labs, she will come around and quiz you on small things so you can understand better. go to lectures and take notes meticulously. a lot of the things she tests are from her lectures. even the smallest details. understand each concepts
Honestly if you're looking for an easy A, take Hughes. She will make you work hard for your grade. Very detail oriented (especially for exams and quizzes). Exams were half written which were very difficult unless you studied a lot, even then she will be very nit picky. I recommend recording her lectures. Expect a quiz every week. And STUDY.
Everyone told me not to take her, but I had no choice. She is definitely tough. If you don't attend class and take notes, it will guarantee you a failing grade. The first exam is the hardest because it's very different. There are generally three parts: Matching (large word bank), multiple-choice, and a lot of short answer (be VERY specific).
Prepare to study! She tells you everything you need to know for all the tests and quizzes given during lecture. Be prepares for fill in the blanks & free response questions. She is willing to answer any & all questions, Do not be afraid to ask! She seems intimidating at first but she is really passionate about anatomy. Take good notes & read!
Dr. Fleischmann is an awesome teacher. She is very knowledgable about A&P material and super enthusiastic as well, which makes her lectures interesting. She tries very hard to get to know her students well especially if you are in the lab. Look over notes and diagrams from the lectures to prepare for quizzes/tests.
She gives you a test EVERY WEEK for A&P1. They're so difficult like you have to waste so much time just memorizing every detail. You're not learning. Do not recommend this professor; shes too extra with the tests. THANK ME LATER AND TAKE AP1+2 WITH HUGHES! For some reason I believe Hughes teaches AP1 in the spring so plan ahead of time.
Hard class BUT I learned a ton. Working in healthcare her class gave me a huge leg up, NOW working in science education I can answer the craziest student questions with ease because of Fleischmann. If you want the easy A take someone else. If you're going into healthcare and be excellent at what you do, take her class. Then work your butt off.
Awesome professor you just have to work super hard
Dr. Fleischmann is tough but if you show up to every class, pay attention, take notes, and study hard, you will get an A. Everything she says during lecture is fair game but questions on tests can be found in your notes word for word. She is funny but also serious. Dr. Fleischmann is one of the best professors I have ever had. Highly recommend.
She knows her stuff, but is in no way lenient about grading. She throws as much material as she can at you and makes the class far more difficult than it needs to be. She could really be a great professor if she provided more resources such as videos, labeling packets, and review sheets that could help with go along with her cluttered lectures.
She is very smart and a great teacher but she throws out a lot of content at you that you need to memorize. If you take lab at the same time, be prepared to have at least one quiz/exam a week, and they're not easy. Make sure to take good notes in class and study the class notes. None of her exams are multiple choice except the final is partially.
Dr. Fleischmann is an amazing but extremely difficult professor. She knows A&P like the back of her hand. Expect at least one quiz or exam every week, especially if taken with the lab. She is tough and will not spoon-feed you anything, but her quizzes and exams are extremely fair if and only if you COME TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES!
Dr. Fleischmann is an amazing professor, and if you are genuinely interested in a career in healthcare, her A+P classes are worth it. The lab is harder than the actual class, but they are both difficult. If you want an easy class, dont even bother. If you want to be knowledgable and confident in healthcare, take this class. Ive learned so much!
Dr. Fleischmann is the best professor I have had. She is passionate about her class, and she will take the time to walk you through things individually. Expect to study at least 5 hours a week. Definitely more info than any class I have taken.
Dr. Fleischmann is one of the hardest teachers I have had, but what she asks of you as a student isn't out of the ordinary. She is very passionate about A&P and knows what she's talking about. Her tests are very hard but she makes it clear in class what she expects you to know for the test. Take detailed notes and make sure you go to every class!
Dr. Fleischmann is probably my favorite professor on UMBC. I took A/P 1+2 and the labs with her. The class was very challenging l, probably the most challenging class Ive ever taken. She recognized when I was struggling and showed a real interest in my success. Now that the class is over, I visit on a regular bases to catch up. Shes the best!
She is very passionate about AP and knows stuff well, but she did not know how to teach! She just throws as much material as she can at you. She grades things wayyyy to slow.(it took her 1.5 months to post one single quiz grade). Not much resources outside the classroom. It is the hardest class I've ever taken.
Avoid her if possible! Dr. Fleischman revels in making the class more difficult. She is on a power trip. Teaching is not her goal. She would often test us over material she never covered. She would take class time to tell long personal stories. Her tests were impossible to complete in the time allotted and the grading was often subjective.
Horrible. Super Hard Professor and even throws in Lockdown Browser during online classes while being unable to lecture properly on the material provided.
I never speak badly about professors but this was necessary. DO NOT and I mean DO NOT take A&P with Fleischmann. She is an extremely hard professor and thrives on strict grading. Be prepared to memorize the entire textbook and quote everything she says for quizzes/exams. If you think you wrote the right answer down, somehow it'll still be wrong.
Its clear that switching online due to covid was difficult for everyone, which really shows from looking at past reviews of Dr. F. She is so passionate and expects her students to put in a lot of effort since we'll 'be her healthcare providers one day' so it makes sense to want us to be proficient in A&P. She will work with you if you ask for help.
Tip: look a grade distribution on other sites to see how other anatomy professors compare. She is unorganized and all over the place. She's old school and only uses whiteboard and writes super small. She takes points off of tests even if you get the answer right(clearly trying to reduce amount of A's earned in the class)
Do not take this class with this professor. There is no reason why the grading should be as harsh as it is. She in unfair about grading and is very particular about wording. Just in comparison a majority of people in my class are failing taking it with this prof but with the other one pass the class by a significant margin.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had in my life. She's so picky with her answers and even if you get the question partially right you will get a zero for that question. There's just too much material to cover to which she expects you to know for the quiz and exams. There is no study guides, or worksheets so it's basically a self study class
I am at a lost for words of how bad this professor is. If you have her for lecture and lab good luck to you honestly because you won't have a life at all. It feels as though every week you have a quiz or exam to prepare for and there just so much material to go over. If you have the opportunity do not take her as your AP1 professor.
Nursing cohort students, I strongly consider taking AP1 over the summer after fresh. year and AP2 during the fall soph. year with Dr. Hughes. Prof. F was honestly the worst teacher I've EVER had. I met with her on mult. times to try and figure out how I could improve but to no avail. Dr. Hughes is amazing! Avoid Dr. F. You will have no social life!
must memorize everything to have a chance at passing tests, does not believe in tech so you MUST show up to class, PICKY GRADER, no sympathy for students failing. if you are in this class, its bc you have no choice so try to not take it w other hard classes bc all your time will be spent studying here
You do not need to buy the manual bc you barely use it, just find a free version online (even if its the wrong year) if you need to use. They make you learn everything on your own and you must sit in lab for three straight hours teaching yourself the material. Quizzes and practicals are impossible to pass unless you study for weeks.
Pompous. talked down to people who had questions. Just read off slides. Later Learned in grad school how anatomy should actually be taught.
Took her class in Fall 2022 semester, got a C in her lecture, & D in lab so I had to retake the class with Dr. Hughes and the difference between the two professor is astronomical. In Dr. Fleich class there's no multiple choice, everything is written so prepare yourself, she's not tech savvy at all. If you can take Dr. Hughes for your mental health.
She is a little crazy. Her lectures are all over the place so it is hard to stay on track. If you don't attend lecture you will be very confused. I have her for lab as well and her TA's don't know what she is teaching so they will give incorrect info. She doesnt upload grades to blackboard so you have to guess grades. She gives out lots of papers
Do you know what its like to think you did so good on an exam and turns out you failed it? If not take this professor
She is very old school and her lectures are only her speaking and writing on the white board in very small handwriting. The lab portion of A&P is extremely difficult because of the way she structures the tests and practical. She expects you to memorize every little part of the body. Her know it all attitude is also annoying.
Although she expects a lot out of us, the class is doable IF you put in the work. It is not easy in the slightest and if given the chance I would've taken Hughes but one thing about her is you WILL be prepared for nursing school. Her lectures are thorough but lab is very disorganized and most of it needs to be self taught. Know your limits...
her lecture exams are very clear cut with what she goes over in lecture. she doesnt try to pull any tricks and if you truly study itll be reflected in your grade. lab on the other hand feels much harder and disorganized. it can easily feel like ur constantly falling behind, but hey pre nursing
Dr. Fleischmann's lab was pretty disorganized and old-school. She lays out anatomical structures and has her students look at them for the entire 3 hours of lab with lectures on the side. Practicals are insanely difficult, but I'd say the quizzes are pretty fair.
She does give a lot of tests and quizzes, but if you take the lab at the same time it actually makes it easier because a lot of them are repeats. She does give a ton of detailed information in her lectures, but if you attend every lecture, take good notes, study hard, and ask questions when needed, you will be just fine. She is a very sweet lady.
For your mental health DO NOT DO IT. I read the reviews thinking I would be different as I get straight A's every semester even in Orgo and this was worse. DO NOT TAKE HER
Pros: Clear with what she's testing in lecture, accessible outside of class, responds quickly to emails, grades fairly, knows what she's teaching, supportive as long as you show dedication Cons: doesn't post grades on blackboard, no lecture slides, lab material doesn't align with lecture sometimes Overall she's a good professor in a hard class
If you don't pay attention or attend lectures you will fail. She doesn't cover everything in the book, only certain topics. She really cares about you and your schedule. She can be scary but is actually super nice and fun to talk to. Class isn't hard if you pay attention and just study your notes.
Her ONLY grades are test and quizzes! She lectures without any PowerPoints. Nothing is in BB including grades. I took Dr. Hughes' class and the difference of teaching is amazing! I noticed this most in lab since Fleishmann basically has you learn all lab material on your own with no guidance, Hughes will explain every detail till you understand!
You will have to study a lot but she is a great prof, so sweet, nice and passionate about the class! There are a lot of exams and quizzes, but if you come to every class, take good notes and study, you will be fine! She tells you everything you need to know in lecture. Lab is tougher but she is still a great prof!
Very sweet, caring, and intelligent professor teaching a hard class. Knows what she's talking about and will go above and beyond to help, you just need to show her that you're putting in the effort. No online slides or grades posted does suck, but she replies very quickly to questions about content and grades. You'll be prepared for nursing school
There is way too much hearsay about this professor. She is the most supportive, sweet, and caring professor I have taken thus far. Yes her class is difficult and she was a difficult grader. However, her students will go on to know A&P like the back of their hand, as they should if they want to be healthcare professionals.
I could not have had a more positive experience with Dr. Fleischmann. I first met her on an airplane and somehow a conversation started where we figured out that she is going to be professor in the future. She is so sweet, but her class is difficult. I absolutely worked by butt off for my A, but it was worth every second for the knowledge I gained.
Nah don't...
0 powerpoints. 0 grades posted online. 0 support. you will feel extremely isolated from your friends and family. the majority of your grade relies on your exams & quizzes, which has little to no multiple choice. pick a religion and pray honestly. on the bright side, she answers emails quick!
This course completely ruined me. She yelled at me for not understanding content one time! The other bio department professors talk bad behind her back and she grades papers subjectively! I lost many friends and dropped clubs because of how deep in depression i was due to this class. Her humor is a bit dark but she is extremely smart. you'll learn.
