She is a friendly teacher who goes out of her way to help. if she can't make office hours one day she will make them up at another convenient time during the week. her choices for course reading were interesting, i enjoyed all of the books on her list.
awesome! she's young, passionate, inspiring, funny, and sexy as hell ... highly recommended!
terrible... always had migrains or would be sick and would cancel classes. Lectures were boring and shes not hot?? lol wow..

I would have to say the worst prof i'v had so far. She was always cancelling classes, was always tired, had migranes everyday, complained way to much (about her life), did not give very good explinations of definitions and such, her marking makes no sence
i don't know what these last two are talking about: yeah, she had migraines, but she would still teach with them!! I found her marking very fair, and received more helpful comments from her than other professor so far. a great teacher!
She loves what she does and she knows her stuff! very smart, seems like she would be fun to go out with sometime. She was very helpful and never made it seem difficult to approach her! TAKE HER CLASS..very cool!
Ms. Post is the the most f*****g awesome teacher I have ever had. She rocks!!!! If want to be inspired, and have your thinking challenged then take this class. If you want to be lectured at don't. The experience will change your life.. it did for me. Oh yeah, and she is sooo sexy too. Cheers!!
She's helpful, nice, and fairly foxy.
To anyone who thinks that Professor Post is a bad prof, F*** you! If YOU think you'd do a better job, then go for it, but until then, keep your nasty comments for your trailer-trash friends! Oh, and to the one who says she complains about her life...since when are profs not allowed to be human????
I agree with the previous comment, professor Post is awesome! I think teachers should add personal tidbits to their lectures, it makes everything interesting. Also she takes the time to get to know her students' names and is clearly interested in what she teaches. I'm having fun in the class now!
I am a straight female and I would date her! She is great and because of her I am interested in writers that I normally wouldn't give the time of day to. She is really interested in her subject and was very helpful after class.
one of the best profs i had. she's great!! friendly and approachable. concerns about our worries and all. very smart and quite good looking as well.
Esther is AWESOME. She is very passionate about her job and is always willing to help people out after class. She is always willing to listen to personal problems. She knows her**** and does get migraines and complain about them but works through them.Shes the best prof I've had and i'll miss her
i spent the entire first term with a massive girl-crush on her. she's brilliant, sweet, sexy and totally in touch with the reality of her student's lives. Take anything she teaches, not only because you'll learn a lot, but because she's an amazing person!
wicked prof! she is so genuine and would bend over backwards to help her students...i miss having her as a prof
Esther is a really nice person and very in touch with her students. At some points I wish she were a little more professional but over all I'm glad she's not. However if felt like only half of the readings were relevant to the final exam. But bad stuff aside she's a really great prof and her class is worth it.
Took Women&Lit...most of the books were good but didn't like her teaching style really. Claims to be really easy marker but isn't. Very nice professor but focuses highly on participation even if most of the discussion is with a select few. Would not take a course by her again.
Gender & Lit. Unprofessional: favoured 3 of her students in the front row, and only had discussion with them while the rest of the class lost marks for it. She hung out with the girls before and after class. Irresponsible: She forgot important things to bring to class. DID NOT ANSWER E-MAILS, and claimed it was your fault. Nice person though.
I was in both her classes, and she is by far my favourite prof in my 4 years at Carleton. If you don't want to participate, don't take classes about women and sex! As for favouritism, I didn't see it -- the 3 girls in the front row happened to participate alot, and *followed* her after class -- I don't see how that's her fault. I loved her!
A sincere and passionate teacher. Extremely helpful with essays, especially if you talk to her one on one, and offers tons of feedback. Non-intimidating, gives lots of exam prep, and seems to actually care if her students do well.
I've taken 3 courses with her and wish I could take more. incredibly passionate, inspiring, and knows her stuff. And she's also sexy as hell.
an absolutely useless Prof and class. Most certainly did play favourites with the aforementioned girls and talked and associated with them in a very unprofessional manner. If you want to take a class where you are forced to listen to everyone's meaningless opinion, then a class with Esther Post is for you!
Esther is the reason I didn't drop out when i was disillusioned by English profs who TOLD me what to think. She encourages discussion and independent thinking, and really knows how to teach you to analyze a text. As for the favouritism comments, are we in highschool? And her dad died suddenly at the beginning of the term - so give her a break!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!! She taught me gender and sexuality text. She is very passionate about what she teaches and makes you want read all the texts because she beams about them!!
Esther is hands-down the best professor at Carleton. I'm in 4th year and can honestly say that her class is the best class I've taken in my four years here. She made me WANT to go to class and WANT to participate in discussion. She's wonderful and everyone should get the chance to take her class at some point in their university careers!
She is amazing. The class is interesting and makes you really want to go and participate.
BEST ever!!! I think every prof at Carleton should sit in on her class to learn what actually makes a fun, inspiring and approachable teacher who is down to earth and real but still brilliant (and so funny!!). Seriously cares about her students, does whatever possible to help them. I absolutely loved her class!!
Esther is the Queen of everything! She'll make you see god...
Esther is a great prof with a ton of energy. She really encourages participation and if you participate you can do well. If you don't, you will lose marks. Your choice. She is a ton of fun and encourages discussion and interaction in the class. A great way to learn about books I wouldn't ordinarily read. Very enthusiastic and helpful!
Esther is the kind of prof you get a crush on from day one -- not just because she's sweet and adorable, and so down to earth, but she's also brilliant and hilarious and an absolutely awesome, inspiring, passionate teacher.Best i've had at CU in 4 years.
Wonderful proff, easy-going, clear about what is going on, accepts your opinons as long as you can back them up - a joy to go to class!
Esther is absolutely brilliant. I took this class because it fit into my schedule but it's ended up being my absolute favourite. She is encouraging, nice and brilliant, always smiling and letting you know that your ideas and input are appreciated. One of the best, you HAVE to take one of her classes before you graduate.
I had heard amazing things about her, and they all turned out to be true. Highly engaging and entertaining prof -- really, she's quite hilarious without even intending to be, and it turned out to be my fave course, the one that i never skipped.
Esther is funny, fresh, easy to talk to, very flexible and fair, fun interesting classes, and very approachable. Very recommended - A+++++
Esther is amazing! Totally passionate about what she teaches and makes you want to learn and participate! Very easy to talk to and will bend over backwards to help her students. I loved every minute of class with her and highly encourage everyone to take one of her classes to see how a class should be taught! A+ Esther, you rock!
She is an unbelievably passionate and inspiring prof, and that's clearly why she was nominated for the TVO best prof award as young as she is. Given that she had pneumonia and a collapsed lung for most of the term, and we all saw how much weight she lost in 2 months, i think you should give her a break for being sick. even sick, she still rocked.A+
Was always late, ended class early. Was always sick, tired or had a migrane. She was very helpful with the assignments and went out of her way to help us succeed. Great Proff. The class was facinating and the material covered was very cool. However, the lateness and ending class early was really anoying.
it's all been said before, passionate, inspiring, encouraging, and interesting. she says shes had problems before with students asking her to hang out, which makes sense because she's cool and approachable. i was sad anytime i had to miss this class. best teacher i've ever had. ever.
Not for the feint of heart. Not everyone feels comfortable talking about sex and women's rights. (We had to be comfortable and say the c--- word, talk about orgasms??) Thought it would be about women and how they're represented in literature, ended up being about how women are underrated in general, way off topic every class. Not what I expected.
must strongly disagree with the previous comment. It's quite clear in the syllabus & course description what the major themes (including sexuality) will be and she relates these to every text we read. It's incredibly naive for one to take a UNIVERSITY course like this & not expect to study female sexuality. A fantastic prof & eye-opening lectures!
TAKE HER CLASS. You'll never look at english the same way again. From Allen Ginsberg's masterbation to Plath's suicide attempts, it is IMPOSSIBLE to fall asleep in this class. She's hot, she's hilarious, she's Esther Post.
This woman is incredible. This is why I want to minor in english. She's fun, hilarious, talks about sex...alot, but cares so so much for her students. Yes, she did unfortunately have alot of personal problems, but the class wanted to do anything to help her because she was brilliant and caring to us. TOTAL girl crush too. TAKE HER CLASS.
TAKE HER CLASS. You'll never look at english the same way again. From Allen Ginsberg's masterbation to Plath's suicide attempts, it is IMPOSSIBLE to fall asleep in this class. She's fun, she's brilliant, she's Esther Post.
Amazing PROFESSOR! Took every class I could with her. Definitly recommend her to anybody in any major. She is brilliant and should be given WAY more classes to teach. Brings everything to life and includes everyone in the discussions. TAKE HER CLASSES you will NOT regret it!
Very caring woman. She is thoughtful, smart, loves her job and her students. I highly suggest any class by her to anybody of any major. HOWEVER she is always late, always cancelling class. She has very strong opinions that can be hurtful. Overall I would take her class again. VERY EASY!!
I am very disappointed with her teaching and the class in general. Sure, it's a fun class, mainly because we get to talk about sex, but that's in the description. She constantly cancelled class and even when she was there, she wasn't always 'present'. She's a nice lady, but I don't know what all the hype is, hard to get a hold of and no office hou
Wonderful teacher! I've considered taking another English course just to have her as my professor again. She can be melodramatic and has a lot of personal issues, but she is exceptionally kind and spirited. Very passionate about what she teaches.
um, she cancelled only 2 classes? She is by far the most engaging English prof I've had at Carleton in 3 years. Office hours were by appt. because she shares a tiny room with 6 others, but she bent over backwards to meet with me on many occasions to help me with my essays.Strongly recommended!
Very passionate about what she teaches, and expects a lot of participation. She makes every attempt to make all the material fun, even for those who aren't interested. She does have very strong opinions about certain issues, so try not to get in an argument. Otherwise enjoyable.
I <3 Dr. Post.
I <3 Dr. Post.
Passionate, brilliant, and completely inspiring.
She is so passionate, really intelligent and well read. She is very open to other interpretations of the texts and generally made class a fun discussion and one I looked forward to every week!
When I grow up, I want to be like Esther Post.
Awesome Professor and wonderful person. Would recommend her class to anyone! Was so kind and helpful, she's also extremely intelligent and makes her lecture interesting. One of the best professors at Carleton!
She gave a lot of help whenever students needed it, and made sure to go over all content to make it clear to everyone what was important. She also was fantastic with accommodating students, like myself, with any chronic migraines or illness.
She has a lot of passion and enthusiam while she teaches but I found some of her lectures exposed too much of her detailed personal life, stuff that should be kept to herself. She has a little bit of an attitude. Other than that her readings and essays were all fair. The grading was a bit tough. Positive note, class is never boring.
Esther is amazing! You'll fall in love with her and notice she's quite close with many students who all adore her. Class was great and made me fall in love with English. Can be a little strict and hard via email but always nice in person.
Funny, engaging, unconventional, connects well with students, empathtic (some may think to a fault), and listens to what you think. I understood and remembered almost every word she said. Keep in mind she also is the teacher for the gender and sexuality course, so at times she brings that material to class. I hope to take all her classes.
Esther's teaching is amazing. She went very deep into the course material and was unafraid to discuss taboo subjects that others may find disturbing. She tends to cancel classes once in a while but she always makes up for it. She is quick to answer any questions and returns emails. She is inspirational, and though it was tough, it was worth it.
Esther is one of the best professors I ever had. She makes the material fun and explains the content of the class very well. She's very helpful in her feedback and accommodates your needs. She always has good stories to tell and is transparent and honest.
Esther has been the best professor I have ever had! She's very fun, upbeat and makes each topic memorable. She really helps the class out with exam prep and choses readings for the course that you will actually find interesting (no joke!)
Class was cancelled more then twice during the one semester. Also, when approached with questions on a marked assignment, she said she would review and I would get a higher mark, well I never got a higher mark and she never responded to my emails. Class was easy, take it if you want to listen to girls about first world problems.
She awesome!!
Shes a sweetheart. Very understnadable. Wonderful class. Recomend taking even though you dont enjoy literature.
As far as lectures go and clarity she is great. However get ready to hear her complain about her problems in great detail. She also struggles to balance personal problems with her job(she cancelled class about 7 times in one semester).
Best prof ever! She is such a sweetheart and very understanding. She was always there to lend a helping hand. She made first year amazing! I highly recommend taking any of her courses even if english is not your favourite.
One of my favourite profs. It was unfortunate that she was sick the whole semester and she had to cancel so many classes. She made the class very interesting. She's really funny and understanding. She's a great person in general and really kind. She'd keep on explaining until you understand. Def recommend for any class!
Esther is seriously the greatest prof EVER! I absolutely love her. Despite being super sick during her pregnancy, she always put her students first! I have so much respect for her and want to take another english class just so I can have her again. Take her class!
My favourite prof at Carleton! Esther made what could have been a mundane class my favourite of the semester by using excellent texts and being a down to earth, compassionate, & approachable professor. She gives you quite a bit of creative freedom when it comes to writing assignments and encourages you to write about things you're passionate about.
One of my favourite professors at Carleton in English. I loved the books we read and the discussion we had in class. I definitely recommend this class!
Definitely a great professor who doesn't feel like a professor. Very easy going, easy to talk to, and gives quite funny and enjoyable lectures. Very good teacher as well. Definitely feel like a much stronger writer after taking her course. Very fair marker.
Esther is amazing!! Very informal, clear about her marking scheme, really cares about the students and very accommodating. Absolutely loved her FYSM 1004 (Literature, Genre, and Context) course and would 100% take again!
Very straight forward class. A reasonable amount of essays, but if you go to every lecture you will certainly have a chance to pick up all the necessary skills to complete them with ease. I would suggest this course as an opportunity to analyze good short stories and learn strong essay writing techniques.
She's a great teacher, very relatable and funny, and is great at actually making sure information is passed along and learned, the marking can be a little tough, especially on grammar, but overall a very well run course with a well balanced workload
Overall, she is a really nice prof. Wouldn't recommend the course for people in science as I found it difficult to learn the very different writing style. Found I was graded toughly for the work I put in. But extremely caring about her students and you can tell how passionate she is about her work. Goes out of her way for students.
Assigned really interesting books and made them even more interesting w her lectures. Grading can be somewhat tough but it truly makes you a better writer. Explained exactly what would be on the exam and how to ace it, made entire videos/powerpoints about how to do well on the final paper. Really sweet prof who was understanding about the pandemic.
I loved attending her class and found her lectures entertaining and informative. I liked her a lot overall and even am taking another of her classes this summer. However, I never in my life received a low grade as I have in her class. Despite working harder than ever before, her class dropped my usual score from an A to a C. She gives no feedback.
Gives really good feedback on assignments and rubrics are very straight forward. Gives small assignments that directly help with larger essays. Very helpful prof and responds to emails in a couple hours. Would really recommend her for this course, definitely would take another class with her again
Esther is hilarious and a breath of fresh air. She teaches English classes how English classes should be taught. The Winter 2022 class is asynchronous which was so disappointing because this class would've def been my favourite had it been in person or at least synchronous.
I could not STAND this course with Esther! She was so picky about the discussion posts and wouldn't clarify why we were being graded so strictly. Same with the assignments; she was never clear about what she wanted. She was difficult to reach by email because she never responded. I've never disliked an English course more than with Esther. AVOID
Esther was a great prof, readings were not mandatory or needed and there were weekly assignments that were marked easy; grade spread out over many assignments so nothing was heavily weighted. Descriptive and helpful feedback on all assignments to help with future assignments and final paper. Easy take home final exam. Kind and caring person.
What an amazing prof absolutely made me fell in love with effective writing. She boosted my confidence in writing and gave me amazing feedback. I finally understand grammar and how to build a proper paper. If writing isn't for you and you are worried about future course papers, please take this class.
Class was okay, wouldn't necessarily recommend taking it. Lots of reading and participation is CRUCIAL to succeed (learned that the hard way). Deadlines are fair and flexible, grading was a little tougher than most professors. Class was cancelled fairly often (she has a migraine condition). Overall: it was okay
Rude when answering emails, didn't even care to know my name then proceeded to email me using the wrong name. Is NOT flexible at ALL, does not budge on anything.
Esther is an English professor. She is very kind and flexible with some of her deadlines. She understands student difficulties through her own struggle. I remember taking her class and she was honestly having a bad day so we made do with what we could and effectively finished our work. She is a very open and kind prof. I would take her class again.
NEVER answered any of my emails. Never capitalizes words for some reason, despite being an English prof, which I know is a small thing but it still bothers me.
Really enjoyed the courses taken with Dr. Post, her lectures are clear and engaging and her interest in the course material could be felt in her lectures. She is lenient with due dates if you give advance notice and provides so much information in her lectures that can be used in essays and exams. Wants to see her students succeed in her courses!
Professor's class is challenging but engaging. Attendance is crucial, and the grading can be tough. However, unstuck AI proved helpful for managing the workload. Overall, a reasonable course if you're willing to put in the effort.
