I am not sure how to put my feelings into words, but to be short and sweet I would never recommend this teacher to anyone. This man will lecture for three hours straight and will not test on anything he has lectured about. Furthermore, his accent is to thick to understand anything. Stay away!
This is the worst teacher i have ever had, you can understand a word he says. My first day in his class there were about 30 people but after we took a break only about 6 or 7 came back. I definatly do not recommend this teacher to anyone!
I HATED coming to this class...The teacher is so hard to understand and doesn't understand the questions asked by the students. He has a horrible memory and does not explain anything very well. If you read the books you will do good on the tests. Nothing he lectures about is on the tests. The material was interesting but the teacher is horrible!!!!
He was hard to understand. he lectured for three hours and did not test on it at all BUT I am a c student at best this was the first college class I ever took and I got a C with little or no effort i was thinking of dropping he encouraged me to stay. Tests are OPEN BOOK.Nice guy, helped me out. Loves philosophy. Hes not that hard unless your lazy.
This guy is pretty well-educated and makes his points clearly. unfortunately, his accent makes him somewhat hard to understand...but besides that he's a good teacher. I'm learning.
10 page biography!!! I dropped after the first week! Crazy old man!!!
He is a good professor and he knows his topic very well. He is very good at working with his students. He is nice and considerate.
Once you learn to understand his accent. he is a fabulous instructor and very caring. always helpful and a brilliant man. Take this class he's fabulous
Coulndn't understand one word that man said for weeks! Finally had to drop it. Dont take his class, you'll regret it.
didn't understand anything he ever said, rambled on and on for 3 hours, mind numbing, never understood students question, and even the nerdy students that sat in the front were like "wtf is this guy saying?, he sucks"
Honestly the worst teacher i have ever had. i set the curve for both test, and did good on the final paper, but only managed a C. i talked to the head of the phil dept, and he totally had Panoussi's back because he can speek a bunch of languages (except english). i had a problem with Panoussi, and the phil dept. worst college experience. DONT TAKE!
Tough to understand at first. If you participate in class he favors you more than those who are rude and don't participate. I would do the same. A lot of people don't care for him, but the class is doable. To much work for the summer session, however all the quizzes and exams were open book and he tells you everything to highlight for the tests.
thick accent, insulted me and my friend by telling us we were stupid! would NEVER take again!
He is often off topic in his lectures and it is very hard to understand what he is saying.
he was a ltlle hard to understand and sometimes got off subject but if you pay attention you can understand him for the most part. all tests and quizzes are open book, and the 10 page paper wasnt too hard. everyone got full credit! hes really nice and tries to help. i got an easy A. he really knows his stuff!
HE IS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND. HE GIVES OPEN BOOK TEST AND YOU HAVE TO WRITE ONE PAPER. YOU DO HAVE TO READ OUT LOUD IN CLASS. HE MARKS AGAINST YOU IF YOU LEAVE EARLY OR DON'T SHOW. THAT'S WHY I GOT A C. BUT OVERALL EASY. JUST COM TO CLASS, HIGHLIGHT THE STUFF HE GIVES YOU AND YOU WILL PASS. DON'T EXPECT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE SAYS.
BEST prof I've EVER had. He has 2 PHDs & taught around the world for 40 years, teaching is his life. I Took both of his classes. EASY B. His accent is hardest part to understand. Tests = open book, then you correct each test for extra points. DOES NOT grade on curve. One easy research paper. A true scholar and philosopher. Take him while you can!
amazing instructor but not for the weak. i studied i got an A no biggie hes an amazing amazing man
Smartest man i've ever met. His class however is not for those who want an easy A or who want clarity. His accent is killer. I Recommend sitting in the front if possible. If you LOVE philosophy take him if you are taking the class as a G.E. find someone else
Dr. Panousi is a very kind person. He makes each student meet him at the library and goes over their paper with them. He also shows you where everything is to help you. Yes, he has a accent, but all of his tests are take home! and you still get ten minutes to correct the wrong ones after they are graded. I hat philosophy and got a B in his class. (
DO NOT TAKE, PLEASE IF YOU NEED THIS CLASS TAKE SOMEONE ELSE OR WAIT TILL THEY ARE OPEN. This was the only teacher available when I signed up and I thought i could get threw it he's aweful. Cuts you off, doesn't listen, unhelpful, hard to approach with a problem, and to the book! Very preachy, Doesn't present things in a way to understand at all.
Greatest Prof Ive ever had, seriously. Hes got a bad accent, but he cares about his students & he's passionate philosophy. Tests are take home, mulitple choice, & u get a chance to correct your mistakes. Theres only 1 super easy research paper. If you cant pass this class with an A or a B then good luck in college. Panoussi is pure genius.
You will need the textbook and you will be highlighting a lot. Tests are open book in class or most of the time take home. That helped a lot. He is very strict about attendance and participation. Have some respect and listen carefully. And your semester will be successful.
Dr. Panoussi with his accent takes some getting used to. Hang with it. Yes, you have tests and quizzes, but everything is take home. A 7-10 page paper with a presentation is required. Professor knows his subject backwards & forwards. Come to class, pay attention, show some respect, complete your work and you should have no problems.
NOT TAKE HIM!!! This Professor makes his class really hard. Yes he does Open-book tests, but its like finding a needle in a haystack and you put in several days and countless hours doing each test and there are a lot of tests and quizzes. I spent MORE time on his tests then all my other classes combined this semester.
LOVED THiS CLASS
I thought Dr. Panoussi was a great instructor. He closely follows the textbook so it is necessary to purchase it. He know the subject extremely well and is full of knowledge and experience. However, if you have trouble with accents I would recommend a different instructor. He speaks English quite well but with a very heavy accent.
During every class period, he will have the class read out loud and highlight sections from each page. This is important to do since the exams and mid-term(s) are taken home. It is VERY hard to understand the material. He does not explain things well and it is really hard to understand him when he talks. He has a thick Persian accent.
His class was sooo boring, but as long as you attend he tells you exactly what to highlight for notes and all tests are take home. There is a 7-10 page paper, but I didn't even do it and still got an A in the class. It's really not as hard as everyone says to understand me either.
Ok professor Panoussi is a very nice man but here is the thing. If you like high school in the sense of reading out loud for the entire class from a text book then this is your class. That's it, all you do is read out loud for 3 hours with very little explanation. He also takes role 3-5 times a class so you cant leave early. Good luck.
Mr. Panoussi is one of the Best Philosophy teachers out there.Sure the class is a little tough, but with take home tests and open book exams, all you gotta do is check your highlights in the book and your good to go.So if you want to learn from the best, take his class. Just don't be late and listen carefully and you to will do good.
He is honestly not bad. Sure he may be boring but the class is very easy to pass. All it is really is just reading thats it. He's speech isnt that hard to understand after a while but in the end you'll pass
the class is impossible to fail since the tests are take home and open book..even the final is take home and open book. All you have to do is highlight the book where he says to highlight (these are questions on the tests) write your paper and attend class. One annoying thing is that he brings up religion in every topic and he is hard to understand
Dr. Panoussi is a great professor. His class lectures are bit boring, and he tends to go off on irrelevant tangents, but he definitely knows the material he teaches his students. His tests are take home. Even though his tests are take home DO NOT go into this class thinking they are easy. His tests require you to understand what you are reading.
Absolutely terrible class I would not recomend this guy and couldn't get paid enough to take him again. STAY AWAY!!
The class is hard but Dr. Panoussi makes it easy for everyone to understand. Test and quizzes are take home but you need to understand what you are reading. He gives extra credits and a 7-10 page research paper that he will let you re-do if he's not satisfied. This is an easy A class. It's up to you if you want to learn.
This guy... I'm writing an 8 page paper that is only worth 30 points on a topic that is irrelevant to our class. His class is pure hell.He is extremely authoritive and dominates all debates. We have assigned seating and he makes us read out loud one by one.He humilates students, asks them questions on the spot and ridicules them when they dont know
Super easy class, pretty simple, all you have to do is the take home tests and quizzes and learn the vocab. There is an essay but its really easy and can be on anything you want so I used an old one, definitly recommend if you do not mind being bored and just want an A.
Oh my, he actually made you read from the textbook? It's college. Grow up! He is a great professor with an amazing resume. If you read the textbook at home you won't embarrass yourself. He doesn't embarrass the students, their lack of effort does them in when they can't comprehend what they read in class FOR THE FIRST TIME. Sheesh.
Yes, he sits you alphabetically & u read from the book. It's not horrible but it's 3 hrs of boring. Tests/quizzes are take home, quizzes are easy tests are harder not too bad. There's 1 7-10 pg research paper, I used an old one & changed it a bit. Put some effort in & you'll pass. Show up/don't leave early u'll be dropped. Takes roll continuously!
I can't believe several posters are not only admitting cheating (using old papers) but stating it as advice to prospective students. Have some pride. Great professor...lousy students.
Very difficult to comprehend, in terms of- pretty much everything. Good intentions, poor teaching ethic. I am retaking this class. Albeit with another teacher. I feel like I've wasted every moment I've been in this class. And I don't blame myself. Ideal class for slackoffs.
Some say he is hard to understand. He really isn't as long as you listen. He tends to be a bit repetitious and unorganized but those are probably the only bad things about him. The class is very easy. If you find Philosophy boring then this class is going to be a bore.
I found this class to be really easy. I read the books and took the tests & got A's. He really is not bad. He wants his students to succeed and he helps you do it.The paper was easy, it can be on pretty much anything so choose a topic that interests you.He a nice man and extremely knowledgeable.Take home tests no homework. It can't get much easier.
This class is so boring! There are no discussions so you are basically listening to him talk the whole time. He doesnt do powerpoints but reads straight from the book. I did not understand a single thing he was telling us. I would not recommend him, even though his tests are take home. His tests dont make sense either though.
Professor Panoussi is a great professor, although their is much reading involved you should have no problem with this class. The test are take home, and you can write almost about anything on the paper. He has a strong accent but if you actually pay attention you should be able to comprehend what he is saying within 2 class sessions.
I took 105 and 106 with Dr. Panoussi. He is a marvel. We are blessed to have such an incredible teacher in the Antelope Valley. If you follow the syllabus and read the assignments prior to class you will have no problem understanding. If not, grow up, blame yourself and not the professor. I have incredible respect for this man.
I enjoyed this class. Yes he has an accent but get over it. He goes over what is on the exams/quizzes. His paper is 7-10 pages.. get over it, this is college people. He is fair, takes late assignments, which is more than I would do, and wants you to succeed in his class. The SLO tests make no sense but his exams are'nt hard. Overall take him!
At the beginning of the semester he decided that our class could not take home the take home test. We used three hours of class time to complete our first mid-term. There is a definte language barrier and he is hard of hearing. However, He does demonstrate excellent knowledge in this subject. I would not recommend this teacher.
He was very hard to understand in the beginning, but you get used it. He lets you take your quizes and tests home, 1 7-10 page paper.. he's easy!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! You can NOT understand him at all, he has the strictest rules ever and tried to drop a student because they sat in their chair the wrong way. I tried to give him a chance but by the end of the semester I felt insane !! Hes easy but not worth it!!!!! Believe me guys.
class is easy, professor is hard to understand but as long as your in class on time u should be ok and research papers are irrelevant to class topics
I managed through hi accent but the information was presented so randomly it was extremely hard to comprehend. 80% of class barely managed a C. Test questions are written in the same manner he speaks.Hard to understand the questions. Everything has to do with outer space. Repeats his stories numerous times. /skip this professor!
this professor is a joke, no the class is not easy, no focus and hard to follow lecture and all tests. details about philosophy was very scattered. I would not recommend his class.
No powerpoint. He or the class reads out loud. Just study what he tells you to highlight in the books. His quizzes and tests are tricky. He allows open book testing but not on the Vocabulary. Research paper is standard.
He can be hard to understand, but once you get over that you learn so much. He is strict at times, but it's college; besides for me the strictest teachers are the easiest. You should take his class you will learn so much.
Dr. Panoussi is a great teacher and he has a love for philosophy. He was able to explain difficult concepts in ways that I was able to understand and I learned a lot in his class. His tests are challenging, but he provides different ways to improve your score if you didn't do well. Respect his rules and you will do well in his class.
It is truly an honor to be part of Dr. E. Panoussi class lecture. In fact my daughter & husband both have attended his class. He is very knowledgeable, he is fair and is extremely well mannered. I strongly recommend his classes to any and all future, past or present students.
It's hard to understand him, but if you do the work you will pass.
He has been teaching since 1966. He is very knowledgeable However, It is time for him to retire...He cuts you off, doesn't listen, VERY hard to understand no matter where in class you sit. Yells at, ridicules, and disrespects students.... The tests are often faulty. Worst Prof.!! take someone else, at least that can speak clearly!
He is extremely knowledgeable but very hard to understand. He is almost 80 years old and is very old school. He does not allow cell phone usage and will call you out in front of everyone if you break his rules. If you are late, he will mark it down. Tests are hard and open book. Vocab tests are not open book. Respect him & you'll be safe.
Dr. Panoussi is an extremely knowledgeable professor and it was my pleasure to have been in his class. For those that care more about grades, if you have basic highschool reading skills you can pass this class with EASE and WITHOUT STUDYING. Anyone saying otherwise is illiterate. I studied and got an A+. Anyone can pass if they try even a little.
I enjoyed the class our professor was very knowledgeable and very serious about us learning. No nonsense just pay attention and learn. Professor will not tolerate not showing up for class nor cell phone during class. Hes very fair and an asset to the school. Dr. Panoussi speaks many languages and is sweet but strict. I would recommend him.
I was happy that I passed the class because it was some problems. But if you do take his class just highlight your notes..be on time...no cellphones...no distractions!!! It is very hard to understand him at times but if you do all the work he assigns you will pass.
Ask questions!!!!!!!
At first it was tough to understand him but you get use to it. He will drop you if you're always late or absencent. Highlight your book and you will be good. You need to read along because he will call on you to read. Overall he's pretty good.
Terrible. You can't even understand him. I ended up dropping the class because it was really hard to comprehend what he was saying.
if you have social anxiety like I do this class isn't for you. He calls on random ppl to read or come to the board. His test are kind of hard but then again I didn't read the book. He has a few extra credits. He has a research paper and you have to present it. I didn't do it but I tried my best on the rest and I got a C. He's a very nice teacher!
This professor is absolutely the worst I have had at AVC. Level of difficulty is high because he is very difficult to understand and I would say he is very rude and he gets away with embarrassing you either by how you read, by how you pronounce words, even though he can not pronounce most words himself. you will be humiliated at random.
I was apprehensive about taking Dr. Panoussi class after reading his reviews. Dr. Panoussi does have an accent, but it's not as bad as the reviews made it seem. He's very passionate and understanding. If you fail his class, honestly its because you were lazy. He gives chances. He wants you to pass. Be ready to read, paying attention pays off.
Dr. Panoussi's background is amazing he speaks 10 plus languages. So much to learn from him. He is from Iran so he has an accent naturally. You must pay attention to the message being relayed not the manner of how it is said. He is fair and gives SO much extra credit. I love his teaching style. Come in his class with an open mind )
Read chapters before coming class Have your books! He is amazing full of knowledge dont pay too much attention in the delivery of his lectures (meaning his accent)but more the point of the message . He wants you to learn and pass do not doubt this ! Just do the open book work ! Be patient when he Interrupts you, he want to help you understand.
A really great philosophy teacher with amazing credentials that I'm sure he'll show off on the first day of class. He can be a bit hard to understand due to his accent but you will get used to it. Best advice for anyone in the class speak loudly.
Dr Panoussi was an overall bad experience as far as teachers at AVC go. He has an impressive resume, but does not use his expertise well. The biggest grievance I have is how distracted his lectures can be. He is an outspoken atheist that has large problems with Christianity and specifically Catholicism. He let this get in the way of his teaching.
Im so glad I took this class with Dr. Panoussi. I know we all have read many reviews about this class but all those reviews do no justice. This class is amazing and he is awesome! Very old school type of Professor with no PowerPoints. Lectures every class and engages all students to participate in reading the book during class. Take him!Easy class
What an easy class ! Amazing teacher if you dont take him your an idiot ! Easy A!
A great professor to take! He isnt the toughest, but what an amount of knowledge he holds! He wants students to participate and get into philosophy.
This class will be so easy if you do the work. Test, quizzes and extra credit are open book. Just have an open mind about understating his accent and temper in the first weeks of class. What upsets him is cell phone use and students leaving the class. Just be ready to learn and play logic as he says. TAKE HIM, PARTICIPATE, AND ENJOY THE CLASS!!!!!
Prof Panoussi has such an incredible resume. He definitely cares for his students and wants his students to pass. The book is a MUST and I recommend getting it ASAP. Logic, itself, is hard to understand. If you just apply and try to understand the material just a bit you'll do fine. Do not be late or absent or he'll make you read.
There are a couple of things you should know: There is assigned seating, he has a temper, and is lazy. His lectures consists of calling on people to read & go up to board & calls on you to answer questions. If you dont know the answer be prepared of him making you feel stupid. He is rude and has a heavy accent that is hard to understand. Good luck
Save yourself the headache!!!! My first complain is the very heavy accent. You can barely understand what he says then gets mad when you cant understand his content. You only use the book and no lecture notes which sounds easy but is the worst especially because he has no daily plan. UNORGANIZED. Rude to students and complains about Americans.
Professor Panoussi means well, but his accent made it very difficult for me to understand the content. Philosophy is already hard to understand, but I found it very difficult to understand him which made it difficult to grasp the idea of Philosophy. Just try your best, highlight everything he tells you to in the book, and you should be fine!
This teacher may seem hard to understand at first, but if you dedicate your time you will be able to understand him. He is very knowledgeable in many fields regarding philosophy. All of the quizzes and exams are open book. Beware there is one difficult research paper. But also plenty of extra credit is given. Put in the effort and you will pass.
Dr. Panoussi is a postmodern Socrates innocently philosophizing with a hammer on our narrow, ethnonationalist Weltanschauung who isn't timid about sharing his tools. It's perverse how deeply his knowledge of philosophy engages his passion for life. Warning: Your will outgrow your facticity, simultaneously alienating and universalizing you.
I got an A in the class because I simply did what I was expected to do. Show up to class, write a 10 page paper, etc. his tests and Quizzes are open book so you really have to try to fail. Its an EASY C if you do the bare minimum. If You dont pass his class its because you dont really care about school too much.....
If philosophy is your major please dont take this class. Accent is heavy and most of the time I didnt understand him. The lectures were boring just because I couldnt understand him. He Isnt the most nice professor and he isnt very patient. Just do the work and be patient with him and you will pass.
Wow, I am a straight-A's student that is taking advanced courses at multiple colleges currently. I have taken much more advanced Philosophy courses and I love philosophy. I have never been more confused or frustrated with a class. I am completely lost. For the love of philosophy, avoid this class at all costs.
A fair professor, but he is not afraid of criticizing! Book is mandatory and I suggest reading the material before class at least 10-20 pages. He does have students read out loud in class, also the research page topic is picked out in the first couple of weeks, try to do little by little from there. Overall do the work and have a STUDY GROUP!
I found this class extremely difficult and during office hours I would go to the information that was not clear enough it was hard to hear him over zoom and his emails were disorganized at best. It was really hard to get communication cleared. Tests were hard but he gives you a pretest that helps you a lot use these!
I have never met a teacher so horrible. He does not teach anything. One time he sent an email at 420am saying we had a zoom meeting at 515am & then punished the class because no one went. He has a thick accent so you can't understand him. He is very arrogant and will always dumb you down he's atheist and will talk about how God isn't real.
I was hesitant in taking this class due to it being a shorter term, but to my surprise it was great! The professor was nice, and does have an accent- just be patient and you will understand him better over the semester. We had one paper, OPEN book quizzes, and a final. I suggest forming a STUDY GROUP and you WILL PASS if you put in your part! :)
I took this professor for philosophy 106 and 110 his class was fairly easy he does make you read a text book that he requires for the class he also gives us study guides for exams as well. other than that the work he assigns is easy hes a very understanding professor so just communicate with him.
My class was over Zoom which he struggled to use, did not hear students asking questions, and frequently marked students absent when they were here. His lectures consist mostly of abstract drawings and having students read the text aloud. It is incredibly difficult to follow along, and there are a lot of tests.
My overall experience with Dr. Panoussi has been a positive one. He's very understanding and cares for your success. His accent can be really hard to understand at first but you'll get used to it. He also doesn't use PowerPoint so the main points can get a little lost but class participation really makes everything fun and informative. Just try.
I highly suggest you look for another professor. I took this class online and he was very rude and dismissive towards students who had trouble understanding his point, was very hard to understand due to his accent, doesn't explain assignments. Truly one of the worse classes I have taken.
Professor Panoussi is a nice person, I just wouldn't take his class again. Lectures would jump all over the place & I would never know what we were talking about. He assigns things really randomly & doesn't explain. The final paper also made no sense to me about how the topic correlated to what we learned at all. I tried, but failed.
I would not take this class again, I took an online version and could simply not understand a single thing,I have taken completely online classes like this one, and been able to do well. when it came to this class, nothing felt like it was in a place where it made sense or was easy to follow/understand. The assignments were not explained at all
This professor is the most confusing professor I've ever had in my life. I've always been a straight A student and have taken multiple difficult courses but none compare to this class. This class doesn't seem to be difficult in nature but the simple fact that he is not a good teacher, doesn't clarify assignments, or help in anyway makes it hard.
Philosophy is a complex subject and he doesn't engage with his students to make sure they understand his made up assignments. His words a jumbled and I think faculty neglects the importance of accessing old professors as he seems to be distributing signs of memory issues. Sadly, students are suffering due to this issue that is being ignored by AVC
He's not a bad person but a horrible professor. I don't think he's well and it has affected the success rate of students and it isn't fair to him or students. He shouldn't teach anymore. 14 people dropped the class because of this. He should be under review but AVC doesn't care about their faculty/students all they care about is the gvmt funding
If you want to pass PLEASE don't take his class. He has a heavy accent and its not exaggerated when I say you can't understand him at all. You won't understand anything that he teaches or says, so unless you can teach yourself I wouldn't take this class at all. He's a tough grader and will not give you any second chances or accept any late work
Dismissive. Mean spirited when asked questions and unorganized responses during exams. If you want to pass Philosophy and actually learn. Take a different Teacher. You will be better off
I would suggest that this class be taken with no more than two other classes (part-time) Dr. Panoussi is kind and helpful. Philosophy is challenging but if you put the effort in. You can do it!
I take mostly online classes, but this one was confusing. Assignments weren't in the usual places, lecture outlines were outdated, and the links didn't work. The professor responded to emails but didn't fix anything. By the end of the first week, I still didn't know my reading assignment or where to find the lectures. I dropped the class.
Yeah, don't even bother with this guy. 3 weeks in and I am still completely lost in the mess of unorganization his canvas page is. Everything is jumbled together yet also utterly separated apart. Links don't work. Assignments are unclear and confusing with little context given on what actually to do. 2/3 of the class dropped within 1st week. DON'T
This professor is NOT the one. He wants you to have like 6-7 pages every week of one chapter you read from the book everything is just horrible I don't recommend.
For the online summer class we got a few regular assignments, quizzes, 2 midterms, and a big essay at the beginning and end of the semester. Professor pushed back the due date for a lot of the assignments since not everyone completed them on time. Very confusing instructions on most assignments. All the exams and quizzes were multiple choice.
Review below me is right. The instructions that the professor gave for assignments were really confusing. If you want some easy credit then think twice about taking PHIL201. Beginning of the class makes you want to drop it, but if you keep doing all the work, then you'll probably pass.
