Nice guy. Really funny. Makes the most simple concept confusing by going off on unrelated tangents, and confusing everyone. I'm serious. Really try to avoid if possible. I've taken this class before with another prof..Ethan is not clear, he's long winded, and his classes are unproductive. The textbook teaches better. Ethan, stick to the facts!
Great Professor, Awesome personality and very interesting class. Very relaxed and focused on the students. Easy to relate and highly recommended
I agree with the 1st post. Really helpful outside of class if you need help but in class, his lectures are all over the place, students often question him, and he questions himself. ( Which is good in Phil...just not an intro, basic class) He needs to just teach the formulas etc...and be confident in his answers! Potential! He's just really unclear
He is a funny teacher. Dont really need to attend class as they are just a waste of time. you can just read the text book and it will make more sense to you. He just keeps going over examples which makes the class very long and boring sometimes. He usually tells you what is on the test, and is an easy marker! I would take him if i where you!
words cannot express how AWESOME he is!! Really makes it clear what he wants, work is totally cut out for you. keeps his lectures short and sweet, ur often out an hour early. I am not by any means a genius but my final mark was %99.3 hands down best teacher so far. If you want an A+ TAKE HIS CLASS!!
BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD! Nicest guy! Great attitude about teaching! I would love to take the class again just to be taught by him! He is friendly and if you cant make a class then its almost no problem! He is funny and a great teacher. Im going to take him out for a beer one of these days!!!
What an awesome instructor!! And he's really good looking too! You won't be bored in his class, he's funny and very friendly! Great guy, pretty easy work.
Fantastic teacher! He's funny and knows his stuff. When you're doing his tests you can hear him in your head saying "Why? Why is that the case!?" lol. Just awsesome! Made a class I resented having to take very very interesting and worthwile!
Ethan actually cares about the students, and wants to teach them! He takes the time to teach the material, he's not out to trick you or complicate things! He wants everyone to do well and tells you exactly what will be on the tests. Easy A+ if you pay attention. He will explain things so well, you won't need to even read the text. Entertaining guy!
Ethan is hysterical. Easiest class ever. You don't really even need to study for tests if you pay attention in class. Always goes over what's on the tests before, and will usually give you the answer to at least one question. TAKE THIS CLASS!
One of the greatest teachers that I have ever had. I would encourage anyone who is able to take his class to do so. Whether or not you're interested in Philosophy, it's worth it.
Ethan is a nice man. He is funny in class, but when you ask him questions he sometimes questions himself. He made this course easy though...thank god because I did not get this class at all. Reminded me of math which I am not good at. Easy to pass it though, and attendance is recommended but not mandatory.
Ethan is a great professor with a very laid back and approachable teaching style. After tests if anyone didn't think a question should have been marked wrong he would listen to them and debate with them. If he thought they had good points he would give them the mark. He even answered a question I had about a Philosopher that didnt fall in the cours
Don't let anyone tell you he explains things too much because I found that sometimes I'd be confused until the 3rd example. He's hilarious and engaging. Extremely easygoing and fun. If you're going to take PHIL 100, take it with him, hands down.
Ethan kind of goes all over the map in class, which can be hard to follow at times. Though he uses a LOT of examples which is extremely helpful, philosophy is a tough thing to grasp so he makes it so you can try to understand. He's a fair marker, nothing too crazy assignment wise. Not my favourite but still good.
A fine teacher I agree with the other commenters, and also his speaking style reminds me strongly of Jeff Goldblum.
If you are not fluent in English I would suggest not taking his class as he can speak incredibly quickly. Other than that a great prof. Very funny, does tons of examples, and is easily approachable.
This class is really easy. It is really long and drawn out when people don't understand what's going on. I personally hate interpretation debates so I found that people were annoying and dragged everything out way too long. This class could be done in a half hour but it takes forever. Ethan is a nice guy, very approachable.
Extemely easy he is hilarious and just wants everyone to do well. Some people say he talks to fast but i managed to hear everything he said.
Such an awesome prof! He's hilarious and makes sure the course is passable for everyone. Most laid back teacher I've had!
Ethan is great if you want a laid back easy class. He is all for discussion and if you don't start it he will go around in circles with himself till you chime in. Spends too much time exhausting a single topic but is fairly engaging. He is very approachable and will change any part of the course on a whim. So don't be afraid to ask.
laid back totally
Ethan, awesome prof!!! He is so entertaining and very helpful in class. He will always make sure everyone is on the same page and goes over a million example while being funny. I would attend his class just to hear him talk. Take Philosophy with him, you won't regret it!!!!
Very easy teacher. If you're sensitive about your religious views don't take this course- as he likes to let the class engage in free for all arguments where personal views aren't considered. Very easy teacher otherwise.
Easy Prof, 5 test format + exam, erases worst test mark. starts to ramble on at times, but the class is very easy, and he is a very chill professor, attendance not at all mandatory asides from test days.
Very easy teacher. Starts to ramble on at times, but makes class entertaining. 3 hours is excessive though. 5 test format takes the best 4 and a final. Easy A if you attend class. Very easy going.
Ethan is very passionate about his class and made learning Philosophy a fun experience. He's a funny guy and easy enough when it comes to tests. Would recommend for a first time Philosophy class.
great teacher, would reccomend for first year philosophy. Really funny and the tests are fair. I got 98% on his final in his philosophy 100 class. But then again I loved the subject :)
Really funny and chill prof. He's a philosophy bum, take he if you want an easy grade and a good laugh.
Great enthusiasm! Very clear in his lessons and has a strong grasp on the material. He has astounding wit and makes every class laugh at least twice
He likes to explain the topic thoroughly, and will try to make sure you get it. If you pay attention and do the questions he assigns you'll be sure to get at least an A-
Ethan was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He made my first year in university much easier. Very nice guy, funny, and wants everyone to succeed. Not a lot of reading and no assignments. my Phil 100 course consisted of 5 tests and final exams. So far, I have not scored lower than 95% on the tests.
Super chill prof, easy A+
Ridiculously easy.
Not my favourite professor as he seems to be all over the place with his train of thought, but it's a ridiculously easy A+. I ended up skipping half the lectures and still received a high grade.
Good Prof. I enjoyed going to classes, they were always entertaining, despite them being 3 hours long. Explains material thoroughly in the lectures and tries to do so in many different ways, with many different examples to make sure everyone understands. Goes off on tangents occasionally, but it's all part of his quirky charm.
Ethan was one of the easiest profs I've had! Super laid back, and really fair. Your mark is 80% tests 20% final, and there are only 5 tests, one of which you can drop. He can be quite confusing in class... Following his train of thought can take a lot of effort...
Ethan is very clear about what he puts on a test, there will not be any surprises. There were only 5 "tests" out of 20 and you could drop the test with the lowest score. Really easy professor. However he talks quite fast and repeats himself a lot, but if you can look past that he is super chill. Great GPA booster for me.
Super helpful. Easy A +
Ethan's class is by far the easiest A I've ever had in university. He's very clear and explains things thoroughly. Tests are very easy and you get to drop your lowest test score. The only thing I didn't like is that he over explains everything. I missed 4 or 5 classes and it didn't even matter because he reteaches things a few times.
He's really funny. Idk how this is a university class.... But good GPA booster elective
A really great teacher. Some parts of the material can be confusing but he goes through it as clearly as possible. Makes sure the whole class understands. Explains everything that is going to be on the tests the week ahead and always goes over the tests. Willing to debate questions if you get the wrong to see your reasoning behind the answer.
he's isn't always on task, thus misses out on class time that is not made up for. you have to read the textbook, but it is only sometimes tested on. basically a self taught class.
I didn't buy the textbook and went to about a third of the lectures and I got an A. He'll lecture on a basic concept for two full classes, so you can easily go to the first half of the first class and miss the next one and not fall behind. I can't see why anyone who has some sort of common sense wouldn't get an A.
Often goes off topic, half the time you don't know what hes talking about. Wouldn't take a class with Ethan again. One of the good things is you write 5 tests and you get to take you best 4 grades. We also never had to stay for the full 3 hours.
Ethan was great. Okay, yeah he does go over stuff quite extensively, but he does say 'stop me whenever you want." If the class prompted him, he would move on or talk about something else. All he is trying to do is make it clear! Definitely take again. Nice guy! I had an A+ going into the exam, not sure of my final grade yet, but should be sameish
(Premises): Ethan is a stellar prof. His lectures are extremely engaging, and SO funny!!! His testing system is brilliantly conceived, and very fair. Holistically, even if you have no interest in philosophy, this is a great course for developing logical and critical thinking, and it's fun. (Conclusion): You should take Ethan's PHIL 100 class!
Easiest class in the world. You will pass if you bother to show up even half of the time. He was very laid back and ended class early every week. He manages to make the information somewhat interesting despite it being a very boring class. Your grade is the best 4/5 tests plus the final - easy, easy.
I could not imagine taking Philosophy with any other Prof. Never bought the textbook or studied and got 100% in the course. He is an awesome guy and will go over ANY example you want. BE ENGAGING he loves talking and joking with everyone. Very sweet and awesome guy, I would definitely grab a beer with him. Tests are ez pz and he gives a freebie.
Talks way to fast and goes on and on and on and on.....
Ethan is the best prof I've had so far as a first year student! Received my first A in his philosophy class. Amazing lectures and syllabus is very clear: 5 quizzes but only takes the mark of the top 4 quizzes. Show up to class, and you'll get an A!
The man should be knighted. Very straightforward class, textbook optional as long as you show up to lecture. Content is useful in essay writing in other classes, but presented in a way that kind of feels like you are playing brain games for a couple hours. Definitely a great class to take during an otherwise stressful semester.
He is hilarious, easy course if you do the homework.
Ethan is wonderful, DO take him for Phil 100! Pros: -class is almost sinfully easy, if logical thinking comes naturally to you -hilarious -very engaging, will debate with students, I had a lot of fun with this -can use any edition of the textbook -super accommodating Con: -he sometimes talks a bit fast
best prof ever
Hilarious guy. Talks like an auctioneer though. This was an extremely easy class, and the only thing you get graded on are several short quizzes, and one final test. He omits the quiz with the lowest mark as well.
GPA booster. Easy A if not A+. As long as you think things through there's no studying required.
Ethan is so funny! his class was a breeze and super easy. the material is very boring but once you get past that the class is super easy. there are no assignments, only 5 tests that are super short, multiple choice, fill in the blank, easy, and he drops the lowest mark and the final was super easy as well. Easy class if you try
Ethan was good at explaining what needed to be done and giving students a heads up on what will be on future exams. He doesn't assign mandatory homework and attending class should give you a huge lead in passing his tests. He is available and friendly. He love philosophy and is willing to talk to you about it.
No assignments, just 5 tests and the omits the worst mark, and a final exam. Overall was easy but lectures were dry and boring. Attendance is not mandatory.
5 tests, omits the worst one, spends way too long on each topic but thats great for any struggling student as he hammers the ideas into your head. Pretty funny guy
Ethan is so nice and friendly, and always cut class short! This is a good first year class, and it is easy to pass!
My experience in Ethan's class was good. I easily achieved the grade I wanted, and he was approachable with questions. If you're looking for an inspiring teacher, Ethan may not be your guy. That said, he makes the class easy going, and funny. You don't need the current textbook, and he only grades on 4 tests (which are also easy). No homework!!
I absolutely loved taking Ethan's class. He's funny and knowledgable, and wants you to get the best mark you can. Attend class and he outlines all of the tests (there is only 4 tests and final -- the only things counting towards your grade). Go through the homework, put a little bit of effort in, and you'll pass with flying colours.
Ethan is a really good professor! He goes over the different topics multiple times to ensure that you understand. His lectures were fun and he made it easier to understand the topics. You can tell he enjoys teaching philosophy and is available to answer questions that you have.
Great prof to learn philosophy from, made me really enjoy the class. He is more than happy to go over any material from class.
I took Ethan for critical thinking. He doesn't care if you get an older textbook. Its optional to open it, just for the review questions. Take this class with friends, only one of you need it. You can show up to the first half of class and get the homework and then leave. He tells lots of stories, but is scatter brained and rambles.
He is so good. He made phil so easy for us. His lectures are so fun and he is always there to help you. He is the best professor.
Ethan talks SO fast! Like an auctioneer! To pass his class, you need to pay attention to details. ALWAYS ask him for clarification. He can't talk slow. He is more outgoing than most teachers; he will let you argue him for a better mark if you think his reasoning is wrong. PHIL 100 is very book-oriented and easy if you can do the exercises. 5 tests.
Ethan is a hilarious guy and it translates into his teaching style. He has a tendency to talk very fast and write mass amounts of notes on the board for you to copy down. He does really make sure you understand the course work though. He would spend majority of the class doing examples with us. He marks on very little, just chapter tests and final.
Great guy
Ethan is SO hilarious! He made the class really interesting and, in my opinion, easy because he goes over the material quite a bit.
Ethan is one of the best profs I have ever had. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do their very possible best. Our class had 6 tests but we only counted our best 5 and that was the only thing that counted towards our grade. No papers, homework, or attendance. Amazing prof, made me love philosophy.
Great prof! Ethan is the best professor you will ever get in university. His marking is fair and does not give much homework. Explains the content so students can understand it easily. Great entertainer and cares about his students. Would definitely take a class with him again. God bless his soul for making university a little more easier.
Very passionate about the subject. Negative attribute - he is known for talking too fast and in riddles and yet he does nothing to correct it?
Ethan is an amazing prof. He makes sure everyone understands the material and does a good job using examples and explanations to what he is teaching his tests are super easy, would recommend for phil teacher
Ethan is the best! He talks super fast so you really have to keep up with him. He's really funny and gives barely any homework. He explains everything to make it easy to understand for everyone. His tests are super easy and he marks very fair. This class overall is an easy GPA booster. Definitely would take a class with him again.
He was such a great professor. He does tend to ramble on about the same thing over and over but he is interesting. He makes the chapters easy to understand and I would highly recommend him!! His class is an easy A.
Ethan Davis talks really quickly; kinda like an auctioneer. Classes are all lectures and your marks are based entirely on 5 tests and a final. I would not take this class again. I found the material extremely boring and the lectures really hard to understand and comprehend.
Ethan was such a caring and passionate prof. Straightforward about expectations and incredibly student-success-driven. Attendance was not mandatory (and you could certainly get by without it now and then). But he was so enthusiastic and comprehensive in his lecturesI always had a great time and appreciated the extra clarity.
Ethan is funny, knows what he's teaching and his class is extremely easy. There is no homework and only 5 quizzes, one of which you can omit. He often lets class out early and he makes his quiz expectations very clear.
Ethan is a wonderful person but horrible teacher. He talks to fast and Its always in riddles. Half way through all my classes he started to talk about leaving so he would ramble instead of actually teaching the material to get students to leave. I will teach until the last student is here. Annoying when his class should be an easy gpa boost.
Ethan really cares for his students and always e-mailed me back. I cant stress this enough, he will go above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. He doesnt care if you use an older textbook. Grade is based on 5 tests and he drops your lowest one. As long as you do the work and show up to class, its an easy A.
Loved this prof! Hilarious guy and very approachable. He does a good job of making a dull, heavy course into something somewhat exciting. The only reason I didn't give him a 5 is that he can talk VERY fast and motor through the material lol. if you don't keep up with the readings and homework it can be difficult. I would absolutely recommend him!
Ethan is a great prof! Phil 100 is the easiest class I have ever taken. There are only 5 tests and one final exam. Come to class, participate and ace the class. The homework from the textbook is the same as the tests. Bonus, you can use an old(er) version of the textbook, Ethan even recommends it.
I had Ethan Davis for PHIL 100 this semester and honestly I can't complain. Even though he does not use blackboard for this course, weekly emails were sent out with notes and exercises according to the chapters in the textbook. He tells you exactly what will be on the four tests in the course and even will drop your lowest test to improve your grad
GOD BLESS ETHAN! Such a caring and loving soul and outs his heart into teaching the material. He will not trick you on what will be on the tests or exam. Definitely the best professor I have ever taken at UFV. We need more profs like him! The tests and amount of homework is very reasonable and easy to finish.
Don't be fooled by the other reviews!!! I took Davis for online phil 100. The description said weekly meeting times. This is a lie, all he ever did was email once a week with his notes for the previous week's reading and an outline of the quiz. Be ready to use youtube to teach yourself if you have any questions. Y
Yes, this class says there are meeting times, there is none. There are weekly notes sent out through email; you don't listen to him talk; it is just written notes in a word document. The course material is pretty simple; however, the last section is quite difficult to learn. That being said the tests are easy and only 4/6 are counted. easy class
Highly recommend Ethan!! He makes this course super easy and understandable. If only all profs were as great as Ethan. Everything in the course is simply laid out and easy to follow. Definitely take his class for an easy A.
If your taking this course online beware there are no lectures or any types of verbal learning besides reading emails between you and him back and forth. I liked the way he graded, but everything was through email and he seemed too lazy to actually create a good class through blackboard. Office hours were through email as well.
I had mixed feelings about Ethan's class - it was pretty easy, but it also seemed extremely impersonal (as an online class). This class was advertised as having weekly meeting times, but that didn't end up happening. He doesn't use UFV's blackboard platform - instead, he emails weekly lectures. Also, the only things you are graded on are 4 tests.
The online class was very confusing. You just get an email of what to do over the week. He will not meet with you only by email, and I found it very confusing. He is nice but wish he had office hours to get extra help if need be. You do 4 tests than the 3 with the best grades is your final grade which I did like. I was overwhelmed and so lost.
The online class was very confusing. You just get an email of what to do over the week. He will not meet with you only by email, and I found it very confusing. He is nice but wish he had office hours to get extra help if need be. I was overwhelmed and so lost.
Ethans class was easy at times, but his lack of assistance online was frustrating. Perhaps its different in person. He only used an email format, explained things very vaguely and I found him to be unhelpful, when the class as a whole was struggling.
Ethan was a great prof. Our grade is solely based on tests which is a downside, but Ethan's lectures were very in depth and easy to understand. He made sure that everyone understands and would take lots of questions. Ethan also had office hours. His lectures were easy and entertaining to listen to. I would definitely recommend Ethan's class.
This class was super easy, 5 clearly explained tests and a final exam. Tests were exactly as expected, and he is very clear. Accessible during office hours and by email, would take again!
Davis was a kind, laidback prof. His lectures were more like a conversation - he was really open to student participation and questions. Sometimes prone to rambling.5 quizzes (approx. 20 qs each), he takes 4 best to make up 80% of your mark, final is 20%. He really wanted students to succeed and wasn't trying to trick us. My most chill class yet!
He was really nice and always available to help.
Ethan was a amazing prof. Tests are based on the homework from the textbook. His class only consists of tests. His tests are really easy, sometimes I ended up overthinking them because that's how easy they were
Best professor I've had so far, really interesting class, lightens the mood.
My first impression of Ethan was that he was hilarious and super chill. He doesn't care if you do your homework or if you even come to class, as long as you're keeping up with the material and pass your tests. He values his students input and is always open to discussions with them in class. He's super funny and communicates the material well.
repetitive but it helps stick the information in your brain. he talks super fast so his lectures tend to not be as boring as most. he also lets the class leave early which is nice.
Dr. Davis is a really good guy, he wants you to do well. Just pay attention, take notes, and do the practice questions and you'll be good as new. The tests arent incredibly difficult if you study, however diagramming arguments can kick your butt- so go to office hours if you can. Otherwise, he's super helpful, fun, and a great prof.
Ethan's class is straight forward; do the homework and show up, then you'll do fine. I wish you were graded on a couple other things instead of tests, but otherwise he is a good teacher. He sets you up for success and does care about his students.
Showing up to lectures and doing your homework will get you an easy A. Ethan can ramble on sometimes but he keeps his lectures entertaining and straight-forward. You're graded on 5 tests and the final exam, all 20% (the worst test mark is replaced by the final).
Ethan is an incredible lecturer, he makes course content very easy to understand, and makes sure his students understand it. He does a very good job making his lectures entertaining and is very clear about what types of content you should study for the tests. Ethan is an overall great professor who I would recommend to anyone.
Super straightforward with his expectations and how he wanted to run the course. Felt like I didn't really learn much, but its a pretty chill class, he is also pretty funny and the class wasn't stressful. A few optional homework assignments, and chapter tests, and a final was all.
Ethan was great. There was a textbook required, but I didn't purchase it. If you learn well by listening, all that's needed for you to succeed is 1 hour of studying for each test. The grade was all tests, a total of 6 were written throughout the course, 5 in-class tests and the final exam. Of the five in-class tests, he will drop your worst one.
Long lectures, and he tends to drift all over the place. However if you approach him directly with questions regarding the material he will clear up any confusion and tell you exactly what you need to do on the test. Make sure to do the readings and practice activities. Really funny dude as well.
Ethan would spend the beginning of the class showing us how to do the assignment and spend the rest of the time doing examples. You were welcome to walk out of class the moment you understood it or stay and ask questions the whole time. Homework is optional, you are only graded off of 6 tests where the lowest score is dropped.
Talks very fast and does not help if you ask for it. Would not recommend taking this class if you can not keep up with fast talkers.
funny prof. has chapters/areas of the text he recommends we read, goes over it in class w/ us, always lets us know what will be on the quizzes, practice questions are VERY similar to what he actually tests. great prof, interacts with class and asks for feedback on his teaching style/what he should put on final. very easy to get an A in this class
you take small 6 tests worth 20% each and then at the end of the year he will drop your lowest grade. When I signed up for the class the thought of only being graded off of tests really scared me but I promise if you show up and write down a few notes during lectures the tests are almost impossible to fail. Ethan is such a funny and caring teacher.
Ethan is a funny and effective prof. The course had only five short tests and an exam and everything on the tests was covered multiple times in class. All you need to do is show up and pay attention. If you understand a concept the class can get boring when he goes over it multiple times, but it makes for easy test writing. Would recommend.
Great teacher. Very nice. Went over content on test before quizzes which was very helpful. Probably the only teacher that I would take again.
Very nice and chill professor
Ethan is a really nice guy. I enjoyed his lectures and found them engaging. However, he talks really fast and can go off topic a lot throughout the lecture. Can get really confusing when trying to listen and write notes. Homework is not required. Grades are based off of 6 tests, he takes your 5 best tests for your final grade.
Very good prof easy class explains the concepts very well. Had 6 quizzes and final exam dropped the lowest grade of your quizzes. Take notes and skim over the textbook chapters as sometimes they provide a more precise understanding. I had a condensed semester and was put into his class a week late but still got an A. Overall great prof
Great prof, funny, tells you exactly what he expects.
calls himself "lazy" but doesn't show it whatsoever. so nice and gives clear instructions, prepares you very well for tests.
Best prof ever! A few quizzes + 1 final exam. He drops your lowest quiz mark, which really boosts your grade. It's also heartwarming that he memorizes every students name. He marks easy, responds to emails quick, and goes through every practice question in textbook. However, he mumbles a lot, so you may need him to repeat what he said LOUDER.
Ethan davis was a great prof, especially for a 100 level class as he explained things really well and repeated things over so you wouldn't miss anything. he's a little different from my other profs, really funny but can kinda ramble a bit but overall really great I would definitely take him again
He is very easy going and funny. His lectures are engaging and you can tell he loves his job.
Ethan was a good professor, he was funny and always explained concepts in depth. But, ask questions! Questions are what keep the lecture going. He does tend to start rambling and can sometimes be a bit confusing, but overall he was pretty good. Your grade is based off of 5 tests throughout the semester, and he lets you drop your lowest mark!
Ethan was a good professor. The course is graded out of 5 texts so you should definitely study. He was very educational and clearly outlined each text the class before we would be taking them. I would def recommend him to anymore needing a PHIL requirement for their degree. Easy Pass.
Very nice prof but he has a hard time staying on track.
ethan is a very chill professor. I took phil 100 with him last semester, but his lecture style was very difficult to follow. he speaks really fast and will often go on long tangents about stuff that's not really relevant. on the plus side, the only assignments were five in-class tests, which weren't difficult at all.
Amazing! Easy class with only 5 tests as the workload. Explains things over to ensure it sticks. Incredibly understanding and let me write a missed test. Wants his students to succeed! He will stay or come in early for you! He goes on tangents but they're quite funny. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand.
Super easy class. 5 quizzes and a midterm, but I missed one of the quizzes and still got a good grade. He talks quickly and a lot which can be hard to follow if English isn't your first language but most of what he says is interesting. Content is easy enough that I did work from other classes during lectures and was still able to follow along.
Favorite class and teacher he grades super fair and always makes sure everyone understands and if not will explain it in a good way so that everyone is on the same page.
Loved having class with Ethan. He is super funny and very nice. Ethan does talk fast and I do find him wandering off ALOT with his lectures, but he is very interesting. He assigns little homework and 5 tests but they are extremely easy. 100% recomend
As a first year student, Ethan was a great professor. Very knowledgeable, and has no problem explaining course content as needed. He encourages questions and appreciates class participation, but it is not required. Very clear on the grading criteria forthe tests, and he would drop your lowest test score. However, he does tend to ramble quite often
I really enjoyed this course. Ethan literally made me laugh out loud every class. Made class interesting and exciting.
Ethan overall cares about his students. Homework not mandatory but will help you with the tests. His lectures could definitely be 1/4 of length if he stuck to teaching the content, i felt he was rambling 75% of the class and at times its hard to understand what he's referring to.
The fundamental structure of this course is required for many others. Professor Davis creates a friendly environment and a comprehensive course content.
Ethan is a funny, engaging professor who explains concepts well. The class has 5 tests, and he lets you drop the lowest score. For study help, I found Unstuck study and ChatGPT to be super useful. Just make sure to stay focused and do the readings.
Super nice person, but goes off on tangents ALL the time. Can create unclear expectations and criteria. His teaching style did not work very well for me, but he does care about his students passing. "I am a lazy guy" was his catch phrase, not exactly what I would like to hear when they are in charge of my grade.
Great professor. He understands that this class is a requirement for many students, so he makes it super manageable. You're graded by 5 tests and a final, but he drops your worst test score. Learned a lot and didn't feel too overwhelmed!
lectures were clear and simple, tests were easy, overall great class and great prof. would definitely recommend
The course was out of 5 tests, which he gave a very helpful outline of each one. He definitely cares about philosophy and he even remembers everyones names when he gives back tests!! He's funny but talks verrryyy fast and goes on very long tangents about topics that are not related. Overall such a chill dude.
I wish Ethan taught more classes! The absolute best prof you could ever have. He is hilarious! He loves to claim "he is a lazy guy" but takes the time to remember everyone's names. A completely fair grader, and gives you all the information of what will be tested. Graded on 5 tests and a final, and he drops your lowest score. All the best to Ethan!
He was a good professor you could tell he wants his students to succeed, very very easy class. Very repetitive talker but it helped you to really get the material fast. Some times hard to follow, would repeat the same stories but overall very accommodating.
I really enjoyed having Ethan as a prof, the only complaint that I have is that I did not get my final exam grade until the Sunday evening before the next semester, which was just kind of annoying, Other than that, the class was super easy and straightforward- that is, only when you understand what is going on.
Ethan was super kind, I honestly enjoyed the class even tho I didn't do that well in it and that's on me. He helped me a lot and didn't stop till I got the question right. I'd recommend him to everyone, he talks a lot and it might not be lecture important but that's what made it enjoyable! I would love to take another one or his classes again.
Loved him! The things he taught me about reasoning etc i still use today, 9 years later. I felt like my brain expanded in this course. Very laid back prof with clear expectations. He did his job very well.
Ethan is great, there's 5 tests worth 20% each plus a final and writes off your worst test mark so you have leeway. He tells you EXACTLY what's on each test, he's also a super nice guy and takes the time to remember everyone's name. Overall highly recommend, the class is an easy GPA booster if you pay attention and do the homework for practice.
If you have to take philosophy he is super chill, laid back but makes sure to work with you until you get it. Only marked on 4 tests and the final exam. Im not a fan of philosophy but his lectures were entertaining. He does not use blackboard or anything so you do have to be there and he doesn't do makeups! very responsive to emails tho! Good guy
Hard to listen to him talk but he is a good hearted individual.
Super kind but lazy, doesn't respond to gmails or use brightspace whatsoever.
I have found Davis to be an awesome professor. Sometimes he talks way too much and trails off to where you can't even hear what he's saying, but the class is very easy and I find I understand the material thanks to his teaching. The grade consists of only tests, one of which you get to drop at the end of the semester, so I'm sitting at 100% so far.
Ethan's teaching style did not help me understand the course at all. I've spent hours on the material and still do not understand concepts. He talks extremely fast and mumbles, so its easy to miss things or misunderstand what he is saying. Nice guy, but material was very difficult for me.
He's a funny guy, but oh my does he like to ramble. I seriously could not focus in his lectures because he: 1) Talks insanely fast, and 2) Goes off topic all the time. I also absolutely hate the fact he doesn't use brightspace..
Ethan gets to know all his students' names, the class is based on 5 quizzes and you can drop one + 1 final. it was straightforward and easy. he talks a lot but its worth it for the chill class.
He explains things thoroughly but trails off easily and can talk quite fast. I enjoyed his class though as the tests weren't difficult (he lets you drop 1 of 5 test scores) and he was pretty entertaining. You just have to hope there isn't someone in your class that will encourage him to ramble about random stuff like there was in mine...
Class was much harder than I accepted based off reviews. Most of the class was the prof getting off topic and rambling on and he overexplained easy concepts so I had to teach myself off YouTube. He tends to mumble A LOT so I'd suggest sitting at the front so you're able to hear. Graded on 4 tests and a final.
Really chill and easy to understand. His lectures made the course material very digestible. Decent amount of homework consisting of textbook questions, but it wasn't mandatory. Attendance wasn't mandatory either. As long as you can show up for tests knowing the material, you'll do well.
