Seems to really enjoy teaching. Expects a lot from his students and knows himself that the class he teaches is hard. Lots of people have dropped but I suspect it was just because they didn't do their homework before each exam. Nothing drops, not labs or exams, homework counts for a lot of points and so do labs. It's important to do well there.

Chemistry is a tough subject, but Professor Gallogly is the way to go for Chem 12. If you actually want to put in the time and study, you will do well.

The second exam is the hardest topic in CHEM12, so you need to TRULY understand the topic to get a good grade. I tried to memorize the ways of solving things by working on many different problems, but I did badly on it. READ THE TEXTBOOK & SOLVE SAPLING HW AT LEAST TWICE. Labs are pretty hard since you have to create your own procedures and steps.

Spring 2020. Lectures introduce concepts, but doing the hw & reading the textbook helps fully understand the material you'll be tested on. Lab calculations can take a while, but they're mostly group work. Tests and homework were on Sapling. I dedicated about 8 hours outside of class each week and ended with a B. Built in curve applied at the end

Chemistry is by no means an easy course, but Professor Gallogly makes the subject fun and interesting! The test questions are very similar to the homework, and if you ACTUALLY study, you will do well. If you are deciding between him and Murphy, definitely take Professor Gallogly! The grading criteria is very clear as are the course expectations!!!!

I have a Bio degree from USC, A in chem 10, Chem11 shouldn't be impossible,yet.. Prof. Gallogly is an expert in his field but does not have a consistent teaching method. He relays information as if it is all just review. The HW does not reflect what is in his lectures or even in the textbook which HE WROTE. Exams are from HW, and the HW is insane.

DO NOT TAKE CHEM 11 with him. Save yourself the grief. The averages on all of our exams have been between 38%-48%. He puts a lot of emphasis on physics, which isn't even a pre requisite for this class. His exams are nearly impossible, the homework is doable but do not represent the exams. He works against his students not with. AVOID AT ALL COST.

Please save yourself the time and headache and AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COSTS. Exam averages have been between 38-50% and he seems to think that this is entirely on the students and refuses to make any changes or accept suggestions for improvement. Cocky guy, really will get your blood boiling. His HW sucks and exams are NOTHING like the HW.

his tests are close to impossible, they don't reflect the homework or the concepts. his tests are beyond difficult because they are open ended, fill in the blank questions. his tests and finals together are 70% of the class. doesnt give good feedback or any outside resources. dont buy the suggested textbook, it didnt explain conceptual ideas well

Hardest class ever. I'm confused by these reviews but I'm just going to say that notice how all the good reviews are pre-corona and all the bad ones are post-corona. Lectures are AT LEAST two and a half hours long (2 a week), texts are crazy impossible (getting above a 70% is amazing), homework is super hard too. lectures aren't good, all confusing

most condescending and unhelpful prof. he constantly enters data incorrectly in sapling and then blames a "bug".. but instead of awarding credit for the error, he makes you re-do the work. emailing him/OH is a nightmare.. i showed my thought process and he straight refuses to help. im doing well actually but this is bc I pay a tutor/study 20hr/wk

You will regret if you take this prof. His exams are beyond difficult all are free-response. Some of his labs are difficult and he cut a lot of points. A lot of students dropped his class and those who stayed failed. Some students I know who really work hard in the class either dropped or failed. Run run as far as you can!

This was the first class I got a C in and I was .5 away from the B and he was not willing to round me under any circumstances. I got an A in all Calculus and Physics courses so I thought Chem 12 would not be so bad. Boy was I wrong the test averages usually hover around 50%: honestly if you're not an amazing student don't take this class.

Lectures are lengthy/boring. Did not allow to go back and change answers on exam (unfair!). Labs are hard, but doable if you do it with someone else. Too much homework every week. Had to drop his course bc it was impacting my mental health. Although he was good at responding to emails/answering questions, his tests did not reflect lecture problems.

I was panicking when so many people dropped. I wasn't certain if I was passing myself and his exams are hard. But the thing is, he applies a very generous curve at the end and everyone who thought they were failing ended up with C's and B's, and the B students all got A's. I got a high B and feel like I'm really ready for my MCAT now! Worth it.

When I took Galloglys class it was the hardest class ever especially tests. But now I'm at UCLA and getting ready for the MCATS & I realize what a great teacher Gallogly was. His class really prepped me well and now I'm tutoring my friends who passed chem but didn't really get it by using all of Galloglys examples & book. He's a great teacher!!

Gallogly is the best!!! This is my THIRD time taking Chem. I dropped twice until I got Gallogly for 11 and now for 12. I just didn't get it before but Gallogly explains everything so you really understand it all. His examples are great. I'm getting all As now and feel like I finally get Chem. Just do all the homework and keep up and you'll be fine!

Tests r hard. Does not play when it comes exam policies and makes sure students develop discipline. Inconvenient when it comes to grading; he sums it all at the end. But, applies a very generous curve @ end of class (at least in the winter when I took him), yet you must put work outside of class. hw doable by yrself, but labs doable within groups.

If you really want to learn something take Professor Gallogly. His tests are difficult; however, his lectures are very interesting and he gives you more than enough materials to help you prepare for each exam. He cares for his student and is clearly passionate about what he does. As long as you do his homework and stay attentive you will get an A
