Best lectures and powerpoints ever. Liberal. I mean really liberal. Birkenstock wearing, granola eating, foreign beer and latte drinking, volvo driving, Trotskyite liberal.

Good professor. Keeps class interesting. Agree that he is extremely liberal and he is not afraid to admit this to the class. He likes to reinforce his points by repeating them many times during class.
The guy has a great, if somewhat strange, sense of humor and he does his best to make class interesting. The giving out of candy is a strange touch, but yeah he's pretty easy going and a fair professor who knows how to do his job.
Very entertaining with straight forward exams.
Takes too much pride in his powerpoints. They would be more useful if he posted them online.
Professor Hollander gives great lectures. They are very easy to follow and it is easy to pay attention during the class. His power points are great. His exams are straight forward as well.
Professor Hollander's class is very interesting. He creates elaborate power points that make a somewhat boring topic interesting and exciting. He teaches with a lot of energy and passion and is really able to keep the attention of his students on his subject matter.
Great powerpoints
Great powerpoints and a laid back atmosphere make Prof. Hollander's class a must take.
I enjoy going to your class very much. Your teaching style makes the class fun to attend
Very energetic and full of sarcasm.
professor's test's leave out major class topics
He has amazing powerpoints. I hope one day I can present powerpoints as well as he.
Great powerpoints make class interesting and go by quickly. Talk about current events which is a nice break from the normal course work.
He has engaging very power points, and makes a subject that i have no interest in, actually interesting.
Good prof.
Very funny and interesting during class time.
I enjoy the method he uses to deliver the lecture. The powerpoints are a good way to let us know what is important. I enjoy going to class, but that's because I am enthralled with the subject matter.
Great Class. Learned a lot and was enjoyable a rare combination!
You're the man. I wish you would grade this test like the last test. Please.
Dr. Hollander does an nice job engaging students in lecture in class. He is a professor that expects alot from students, but is willing to work with students at the same time.
Does a good job of clarifying difficult texts and has a way of making a subject that is usually very boring to non majors somewhat fun. The real world examples are nice (Like pizza distribution for a collective action problem). Also, while its hilarious to see him "joke" with students it fosters an environment not suitable for a more personal relat
Great professor. Always uses great examples and the powerpoints are always fun to watch!
Gives good, interesting lectures while effectively using power point. His political views are interjected frequently in his lectures, somewhat unnecessarily.
Keeps it interesting. Keep it up.
His teaching systle make me understand how the politics is happening around the world.
Solid professor that is clear with his teaching and has an obvious interest and excitement about what he teaches.
Hollander's a great professor. Seriously, it seems like he's been at Wabash forever even though he's relatively new. He knows his stuff and isn't afraid to tell you about it. His class would be better without passage identifications (really, political scientist authors are a dime a dozen, we don't need to know their names) and a smaller class size.
Absolutely loves his powerpoints and throws his political views into his lectures. Overall a solid professor. Does like to play favorites so it is recommended to get on his good side.
The powerpoint presentations make taking notes very easy and the reading is short and interesting. Also he is humorous and the chapel talk was good.
One of the reasons that he is so great is because he works with his students. He seems to not want anyone to do bad and because of that he is willing to take time to talk to his students and help them when they need it.
Lecture professor who maintains student interest through use of powerpoint and relatable anecdotes.
I like the power points and he gives some of the best lectures.
His lecture are outstanding and I like the use of his power point presentations.
Liberal, but very funny and intelligent. Powerpoints are dynamic and clearly illustrate intended point
Funny guy. Lectures are entertaining and cover just about everything on the tests, or at least give you a general idea. It's a good class as long as you do the work. Tests aren't that bad since he can actually teach the subject.
Good teacher, hard tests. Not much homework though, or if there is it's pretty easy. Still need to go to class so you can know what's going on. Explains things pretty well. Sometimes the readings and lectures though don't correspond to the tests in that if you give him the answer from a lecture you'll still not get full points on the test.
It was very helpful to have the shorter readings because you knew what was important. I didn't have to search through pages and pages to figure out what the purpose of the readings were.
Overall it was a great class with very informative powerpoints. Some of the earlier material was repetitive concerning the US government system. Organization of class was efficient, but at times he is easily distracted and able to get off topic. On a general basis he has a great comprehension of the material presented in class.
He has really good power point presentations (that he rightfully prides himself on) and they're detailed enough so that you only need to kind of scim through the reading. Teaches well, knows the subject, and he gives candy. What's better than that?
professor hollander is one of the best in wabash.he makes class really interesting and even if the topic seems to be difficult ,he tries his level best to make that topic really easy so that every student in the class can comprehend it without having any sort of difficulty.
Powerpoints are legit. It makes following along easy. Only concern is that sometimes humor takes you off task. Also, less coverage and more depth. Might help with fully understanding the application of your lectures.
He teaches from power points, but keeps them funny and interesting. Hard tests, but never throws any random questions on them and if you pay attention in class and do the minimal readings you should do fine. Only complaint is how liberal his political views are, but he does a good job of showing both sides of any issue discussed in class.
He is very clear and makes coming to class fun. It is very useful to come to class and you will suffer for not coming. One thing that could be improved upon is how much we need to focus on our readings for the identifications on tests. It was a little surprising how much we needed to know after being told not to memorize the text.
The class is lively and interesting. The content is presented in a way that is both engaging and informative, I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I mean it. I'm an English major who doesn't care about politics but i do care about attending this class. I care also that the things I've been enjoying learning are able to be applied outside class
great professor, and you will feel regret if you dont take his class at Wabash
Very helpful and interesting professor. Classes are extremely organized and engaging. Readings are short but be prepared to receive random pop quizzes. PowerPoints are used daily which help immensely. Fun class and interesting topic.
Prof. Hollander is an extremely good lecture, using outstanding powerpoints that help to make his points and his points are always clear. While attendance in his class is not mandatory he holds you accountable when it comes to the test and pop quizzes. This is part of his teaching style that I really like, because that is the way that it should be.
Dr. Hollander is an excellent political science professor with extensive knowledge in comparative politics. His teaching style is very entertaining, never boring. Even though we fall on different sides of the political spectrum, I do not sense any serious bias in his lectures. I would recommend Dr. Hollander's classes to any Wabash man.
I think that your class is interesting and entertaining, which makes it easy tp pay attention and understand. You clealy put a lot of time and effort into your lectures, and its sad that the students don't seem to put that as much effort into it. I rate you as one of the best at Wabash.
Class was very informational. I appreciated the fact that the majority of the readings were short. However, some of them were very boring and difficult to read. Could tell he is interested in PolySci and it made the class interesting. Would definitely take this class again and learned a lot. Overall, excellent!
Lectures are very interesting because the professor is so into it. That makes it easier to come to class. I really enjoy the well thought out powerpoints.
I have mixed feelings...his lectures are more interesting and thought out than most, and he puts passion into his lectures. But, sometimes I question his knowledge. It seems like he sometimes twists actual events in history to make his point, and I wish I had more space to provide examples, and believe me, I would. Not a boring class, relatively.
Dr. Hollander is the only lecture professor I have had that never bored me. He makes the most thorough and informational powerpoints that I have ever seen. He also peaked my interest in politics which is a subject that has never interested me. He is very good at making difficult topics very clear to the entire class. - Dave Seibel
Overall, I thought the material in class that we covered was fairly easy, yet engaging. That being said, I didn't agree with the way in which you graded a lot of the tests. I take accurate notes, which I nearly memorized for your exams. Although I obtained high B's on your tests, I believe they were graded unfairly. This is becasuse upon looking at
This class is helping me decide my future career. I have always wanted to be involved in politics. The use of real life examples and personal experiences has helped me understand subject matter better.
Classic case of style over content. Understand this is a 100 level class, but as a fellow classmate remarked, sometimes it's so redundant that it becomes confusing. I guess I wish he would explore the material in depth instead of trying too hard to be a stand up comic.
this class is a good introduction to comparative politics and different forms of government. Dr. Hollander keeps the class interesting and with a little comedy here and there.
This class was a bit scatter-brained at times, students were unsure of expectations and professor provided plenty of criticisms--both warranted and unwarranted. Not the best class I have taken at Wabash. Dr. Hollander is a good professor, and when he lectures in his survey courses he is good, but I left this class unimpressed
Easy, easy class.
This class had extremely easy material and I didn't have to put in much work beyond reading the titles or a brief summary of the articles we were supposed to read. I am glad there weren't many paper assignments because the writings we did do had unclear expectations and had my only low grades. You go over the same thing a lot which makes tests easy
great professor
Good professor, truly cares about students! Material was challenging, but he made it interesting. One thing I didn't like was that he looked to discipline the bad students rather than reward the good students for doing well.
PSC 327 on ethnic conflict and nationalism was very interesting and challenging. Dr. Hollander brought text after text that helped us understand the many facets of ethnic conflict and genocide. As a final project we had to construct a constitution for an ethnically divided country which turned out to be very thought provoking. Overall Great Prof.
Class was a lot of fun and the topics covered were very interesting. I'm saying this as someone with no prior interest in polySci.
He is very scatter-brained, and the course is very disorganized. He spends way too much time each class reviewing before getting to the new material. He has also had some inappropriate interactions with students, telling them that they're better off just dropping the class. His rules are asinine and create more confusion and distraction than order.
Good teacher, easy to understand, interesting course. Disagree with strict forms of punishment for late assignments (telling students to just drop the class). Also disagree with telling students that skipping class is better than being late. Your goal should be for students to learn, telling them to just skip and not learn goes against this goal.
It seemed he was very moody and unreasonable with student interactions in certain cases. Also, at times he tried to make students feel stupid for asking certain questions and didn't really seem to be invested in the success of his students. Didn't do a great job of capturing student interest. He could be more interesting with his lecture topics.
Many subjects were went over many times. The content was interesting. As a Professor, he is very anal with his absurd rules to make up for the fact that he is clustered. He picks the students he does not like and singles them out and punishes them for it with harsher grading. He is very pompous and self righteous.
I really enjoyed the class. As a freshman I was forced to actually work for a grade, and once I actually started working the material became easier and easier. Course made me start to like political science and has me thinking about a poli sci major. Lecture style was great and professor was great at really getting across the information.
The topics he touches on in the class are pretty interesting. He makes things a lot more complicated than they really have to be. He says there is a reason for his unorthodox methods, but in reality there isn't. Sometimes you can tell that he cares about his student, but on other occasions he's showed that he couldn't care less.
I enjoyed PSC-121. Good class for freshmen. Dr. Hollander is very clear in his preferred methods for paper writing. His lectures are interesting and informative. However, he often has repetitive info in lectures. This helps if it is brief reviewclarification of expectations (as he can be unapproachable), but often these parts of lectures go long.
The class is very interesting but it extremely difficult.
The amount of review done in this class is actually shocking, and not in a good way. There is a lengthy list of rules, most of which are excessive, overly specific and only in place to see who will follow them. Grading in the class is a mystery. Fs are handed out for ridiculous reasons. Point configuration on tests are beyond confusing as well.
Dr. Hollander is an excellent lecturer who keeps his class engaged for pretty much the whole hour. He expects you to have read what was assigned, not show up a second late for class, and take notes the entire time. His reading quizes are easy if you read but his tests, specifically the multiple choice Q's, are hard as hell. Hard to reach by email.
The class was very enjoyable. The only complaint that I have would be that I did not fully understand the 3 divisions of political science. By this I mean I had trouble finding the institutional, structural, and cultural arguments in certain readings.
If you did poorly on something he made sure you knew it. Was usually entertaining during class lectures but would move to quickly and review a lot of the same material. If you missed it good luck getting it from him. His Powerpoint presentations were kind of disorganized. No book so on your own to study for midterms. Not best class but not worst.
He is an entertaining professor, but is particular about some things. He gives out a good number of extra credit opportunities. For the most part the class is interesting.
A long and specific set of rules that really serve no purpose. Feedback on paper was non-existent and what feedback was given, none of it was helpful.
instead of pop quizzes he could of done a mandatory two quizzes per week, that way students know the quiz is coming rather than hoping and betting that there will be no quiz
Overall, a very good professor. He has some ridiculous rules that aren't super logical, but if you ask he will give you his explanation for why he has them. Lectures are very entertaining and start with a review session so the material is easy to learn. Powerpoint slides and animations are helpful. Previous tests available for review.
Dr. Hollander reviewed previous material quickly at the beginning of class. It was not as helpful as I thought it was going to be. In the paper assignment, the grading seemed focus on the structure of a paper and the grammar, which are important, and less about the content or argument we were trying to make.
Makes concepts very easy to understand and is quite funny. Does have strict rules for his larger lectures but will explain why they're so specific if asked. These strict rules may give the impression of him being mean but is actually a really nicereasonable guy. Plus studying his past examsfinals helps a ton. He's one of my favorite professors.
Likes to lecture. Lectures every day, with the scattered pop quiz, so do your reading. Usually the readings are relevant and not too lengthy, though there are some wordy assignments. Tests are usually straightforward, one or two curveballs.
This professor is good about dumbing things down for the class. He takes seemingly difficult topics and relates them to everyday things.
He gives great lectures, that have a lot of enthusiasm and clarity, when he his on topic. Most lectures consisted of review of other things and not enough time on the new material for the day. I believe he is a very rude person, but at the same time as a good heart. Lots of encouragement to "drop the class", unnecessary. Makes you feel stupid.
In Hollander's class, the readings are not long but they are plentiful. Be sure to read them because you never know when there will be a pop quiz.
Arbitrary grading. Does not follow objective rules of writing when grading papers. Not open to discussion and cannot except being wrong. Communicates issues with papers very poorly so the student doesn't know what they did wrong. Does not connect with students.
Hollander is extremely well versed and the class overall was very interesting and not very difficult.
Exams are hard but he rewards those that study his previous exams. Make sure you read, the quizzes aren't hard if you read and comprehend. He grades tough on papers. Doesn't use the book he has you buy, maybe one or two readings from it. Has a great New York accent, and is a great lecture. Wish he would go more in depth on different topis though.
He specifically ensures that you won't have to read very much, but the reading is very relevant to class topics and your understanding. Likes to lecture and cares about the material he is teaching. Clear about grading criteria and you don't follow his instructions, strict consequences to your grade will ensue.
Overall I thought the course was taught well. I learned a lot and the lectures were not only interesting, but they were quality discussions. I thought the pop quizzes were alright, they definitely kept people on their toes however, I have never understood the no guessing policy. I like that you kept the readings short. Solid exams, no surprises.
Terrific lectures, probably the best I've ever had. The readings at start are deceivingly short - but then the latter half of the class occasionally have a total 40-50-page reading per class. The grading however is very strict (and weird to a nonmajor like me), and it is way too strict for a 100-level distribution course. Despite efforts, hello Cs.
Sometimes grading scale and what you graded on is a little unclear. Test have a lot of room for error.
Loved it all
Enjoyed it
It was sub par
Not fun
Somewhat nitpicky with grading. However, he lays down his expectations very thoroughly at the beginning of the semester. A very respected and learned professor with a captivating lecture style. I liked the writing assignments and how they made me think critically about political science. Not a poli-sci major but I will still use that skill in life.
I enjoy being in class because it is much more interesting than I had hoped in the beginning. I had walked into the class with knowledge that Prof. Hollander was a hard grader, but was excited to learn that lectures and class participation was highly worth my wild. It is a fun, energetic class. The reading is not heavy at all. Show up to classes!
The Class was enjoyable! I found that the pop quiz(s) every week really kept me on my toes. This gave me a level of focus that I haven't found with the other classes I have taken. Though, I feel that open discussion could benefit the class. With that being said, it is a lecture class so it cramped on time. Also, another paper would have been nice.
Ethan Hollander is good Professor who is creative when introducing new concepts during lecture. His sense of humor does assist when articulating concepts aswell.
He is a great teacher that expects the best out of his students. However he will say he hates to give long reading assignments and about half way through the semester he will start loading on the reading. HE LOVES POP QUIZES.
The overall experience of the class is great. The lectures are very entertaining and you learn a lot from them. one thing I would change would be the amount of pop quizzes, they always seem to get you at the worst time.
The class was enticing and challenging. Rules are very specific. Professor Hollander lets the class know what his viewpoint is but does a good job at looking at issues from every angle while providing comedic relief to ease political tensions. He is kind of funny sometimes.
Readings are relativily short compared to other Wabash Profs but be careful of the pop quiz
His lectures were easy to follow and made learning tough topics easier. Make sure you do the readings. If you don't, you will fail the pop quizzes.
This was an interesting class, Dr. Hollander is a great lecturer. Tough grader, but plenty of extra credit opportunities.
I found the class to be extremely comprehensive. I would prefer a little less pop quizzing and a little more thorough discussion of the topics we covered. This would make the readings feel like they mattered more instead of just being something we had to do.
Professor Hollander was my first ever class in college. Once you figure out how he teaches and if you enjoy political science the class is great. Mostly lecture style but there is time for some discussion.
He's a great professor but a tough grader who always expects students to get ready for class. Be aware of pop quizzes in almost every lesson. His lectures are intriguing and informative. Definitely a must-take course in Wabash.
The course is definitely an interesting one so that helps. The pop quizzes almost every day seems a bit over the top and I would rather have more time during class for in-depth discussion. With that being said, Dr. Hollander does a good job of thoroughly explaining the ideas that were expressed in the reading. I enjoyed the class for the most part.
Dr. Hollander by far has some of the most interesting (in a good way) lectures that I've ever listened to. He is enthusiastic about what he is teaching, and is able to convey information in a clear manner. However, his grading can be a bit strange making you question what (if anything) you really did wrong. Overall, not a terrible experience.
This was an interesting class. I really enjoyed the content that we learned. The course was tough, but only because I made it harder on myself. With all the pop quizzes, you really hold your students accountable when it comes to course readings.
Makes class captivating by demanding attention through energetic approach. He uses unique examples that increase understanding of situations in government and politics.
Great professor, solid classes
Dr. Hollander is a cut above. Lectures are strong and engaging and the readings are concise and relevant. He also does a good job of going over what you read so you can keep up if there was something you don't understand. He's taught 121 numerous times and it shows; he distills complex ideas down and makes them clear and tangible.
PSC-121 was an interesting class that I enjoyed very much. The only thing I could have suggested to be done differently in the class is that consensual and majoritarian democracy systems and the potential dangers of democracy should be taught first. These aspects could be reflected when discussing the U.S. and the U.K. governmental systems.
Dr. Hollander is an amazing Professor. He clearly knows the subject material and does an amazing job explaining complex ideas. He is a tough but fair grader. Ask questions in his class. Dr. Hollander might seem intimidating, but he very well spoken and kind individual who will always be willing to talk. Overall, amazing professor, would recommend.
Great lectures, consistent work load, pop quizzes very often. Readings are mostly short and will help you become a better reader in all classes.
Overall I think this is a pretty good 100 level course that teaches some necessary skills for future classes Dr. H is a good engaging lecturer but repeats a lot of the ideas from the readings. If it weren't for the pop quizzes readings wouldn't be too necessary. He says the readings are should be short but they are often still longer than needed.
Easily one of the most worthwhile classes I've taken here. The material was challenging but in a good way. If you do the readings, attend class and put effort into your work, you will survive both the writing assignments and the deluge of pop quizzes. Dr. Hollander is a great guy who has mastered the art of making class engaging, relevant and fun.
Will never be bored in class. Makes every topic interesting. While he is a hard grader, he grades fairly. Do the readings because pop quizzes are frequent. The readings are relevant to the class and referred to frequently. If you are confused go see him in office hours and he'll help. Great professor and I highly recommend to everyone.
Prof. Hollander will give very interesting and informative lectures. But, his homework assignments and papers are sometimes very hard to work with. I believe this course was graded and taught like it were a higher level Political science class, and not an introduction. Prof. Hollander is easy to meet with outside of class. That is helpful.
Professor Hollander is what I believe most High-school students think college classes are like. Reading is mandatory due the heavy amount of pop quizzes, and tests have multiple choice questions that go through half of the alphabet. He is fair however, and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the year. Strict but fair.
Great professor, just make sure you read because there are a lot of pop quizzes.
Dr. Hollander's presentations are quite engaging and easy to follow. The quality of his slides in lectures is the highest I've seen from any professor. His exams are pitched at just the right level for the amount of class time spent on each topic. I'd love if the class was been more discussion-based. He takes some getting used to, but is great.
Dr. Hollander is a great professor that really understands the material he teaches. Beware of pop quizzes though they will really tank your grade if you are not paying attention. I learned a lot in the class and would definitely have Hollander again. I love the personal stories he tells which makes the complicated material easier to understand.
Great animated professor. Class will keep you awake. There is usually reading every night with frequent pop quizzes, but if the reading is done, they are easy. Visit him out of class if you don't understand the material. Does grade hard so be clear.
The lectures are good, but you need to get almost exact wording on most things for test credit
Assigns homework every night
Dr. Hollander is a great professor that engages well with students by challenging them and forcing them to expand on ideas. His lectures and personal anecdotes are entertaining and you can tell that he knows what he is talking about. Be ready to come to class prepared. You can't skate by in his class like you may be able to in others.
Make sure to do the daily assignments and participate in class. Dr. Hollander's lectures are great and very educational.
You get out of it what you put in. If you do the reading the classes are great and not too hard. Dr. Hollander is also the funniest professor that I have had by a mile. A class with him is a must.
The class is good overall, but I've noticed that at times, when a student asks a question, he makes them feel dumb. His presentation slides are strange and messy, and he has a passive-aggressive demeanor.
Prof. Hollander brings energy to the lectures, but be ready for frequent pop quizzes on the readings. Use Unstuckstudy alongside the free textbook to ace the exams. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Hollander provides good lectures that keep you engaged, and actually help with the exams. He gives pop quizzes often, but I think they are beneficial because it ensures that you do the reading for class. Gave a quote "you shouldn't just want to study, you should want to learn" and I think that shows the type of professor he is.
Hard professor but he teaches the topics very well
Lectures were very engaging and often times pretty funny. Slightly heavy work load, but not too bad.
Dr. Hollander, overall, is a fantastic professor. He truly cares about his students' learning and wants them to continually improve. His class requires you to read the material before class and to come prepared. His lectures are fun and draw you into the material.
Dr. Hollander is a great professor. You should expect pop quizzes every class and make sure you do the readings and read them carefully. There are quite a few assignments in the class but you want to do well as he can be a hard grader. Dr. Hollander is a great professor and his 121 class is phenomenal i would definitely recommend taking this class.
This class is great, and Hollander is great, but the canvas page sucks for his classes, so keep the syllabus handy.
I was scared because it would have been my first time taking a Dr. Hollander class; I thought it would be hard. However, I ended up taking the course. At first, the course seemed difficult. The rules were simple: follow the syllabus, do the readings, attend class, and you should be fine. The material was very clear.
Dr. Hollander knows his stuff, and his lectures are always interesting. The material of the course is interesting too. He can come across as harsh but also funny. Daily readings are incentivized by frequent pop quizzes.
Professor Hollander is a fantastic professor. The first piece of advice I would give another student is that you have to put in 100% effort for the full duration of the course. The biggest keys to success for me were paying attention to detail and taking my time in assignments. He is not a professor you can just sleep-walk through his class
Dr. Hollander is by far one of the better professors on campus. He is a very fair professor and will make every class period fun in my experience. He adheres to his syllabus like clockwork and makes a clear effort to not fall behind on it. In addition to that he takes pride on grading things quickly and will have tests back the very next class.
I would highly recommend - you will have 5ish minute pop quiz at the start almost every class. If you are a student that does the course readings, this class is a very easy A. If you don't read or skip lecture, don't take this class. There are 2 papers, a few assignments, 2 midterms, and a final. If you attend lecture and do readings, easy A
I really enjoyed this class, it has been my favorite through my time here at Wabash. I loved the course material and class engagement much more than other classes. I did not find myself dreading this class as I do many others. Dr. Hollander did a great job of teaching material, testing us with exams and pop quizzes, and grading in a timely manner.
I've taken a class about the Holocaust and now a Statistical Analysis class with Dr. Hollander. I highly recommend both, or any class that you can take with him. His classes are great.
Very engaging lectures, that were relevant to real world events that are currently happening.
Took his stats 300 level course. Probably one of the most useful classes I've taken here at Wabash. Dr. Hollander is a very tough grader but you learn so much from him. As a polisci professor teaching a course that is heavily quantitative, he did better than most math professors I've had. Over I would highly recommend this course.
Professor Hollander is a great teacher and makes it known that he wants you to learn and succeed. Make sure to do the readings and pay full attention to get the most out of the class.
Dr Hollander's biggest strength is his lecturing skills. Our class had some good conversations and part of these conversations were lectures that explained and made politics interesting, especially for those not already involved with political science. Dr. Hollander is a stickler for attendance/being on time, and following syllabus rules. Overall ✓
Professor Hollander is one of my favorite professors, he has really good lectures and stories. He's a really funny dude, he does give out a ton of pop quizzes but just do the reading and you should be fine for the most part. He can also be a little savage towards his students, but he is genuinely a good professor.
Professor Hollander is very passionate about what he teaches, and it rubs off on you. He tried to be kind with the amount of reading we had, it was still hard to want to do it all the time. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Hollander is an incredible professor that cares deeply about each individual student's success. His engaging lectures are definitely a highlight. Class attendance is incredibly important since the material can be obtuse before he explains it. Don't be intimidated, you'll learn a lot!
He has of the most engaging lectures that I've ever heard. I actually enjoyed listening and paying attention in class. He's hilarious and has great visuals to keep the lectures engaging. Do be aware of pop quizzes, but if you do the reading they shouldn't be an issue. Overall great professor, and would take one of his classes again.
Dr. Hollander is challenging but fair, which makes for an extremely rewarding grading system. Any student can work with Dr. Hollander, he's great at what he does. Class is engaging and even the theory of statistical methods feels that way while he lectures. Would absolutely recommend taking this class and others.
Dr Hollander is a great professor for this course. Stats no doubt is a difficult class. I learned so much from him and this course that it was well worth it. I would definitely take this course again with Dr Hollander.
Dr. Hollander and political stats may be the best combination since bread and butter. If you follow along the syllabus, do readings and homework, and show up to class you will be prepared for exams, which are a majority of the grade in the class.
Statistics is a hard class, no matter who teaches it, especially if you aren't a fan of math or find that subject difficult. Still, Professor Hollander made the experience not only feasible, provided you do ALL of the reading and homework (I mean it), but also practical. Not to mention that class sessions tend to be hilarious as well.
Hollander is very approachable. He doesn't always realize how difficult his class actually is, but he tries to help as much as possible.
Professor Hollander is a great lecturer. He kept me engaged in class and helped me understand the material in various ways. I think he should have done more examples in class and perhaps assigned homework following a lecture rather than before the lecture. But he was a great professor who can effectively teach difficult subjects.
This professor will push you and expect you to be ready to go at any point but the tradeoff is that every lecture is extremely beneficial and he's incredibly funny.
A lot of pop quizzes over daily readings. Teaches a deeper understanding than just the normal bullet pointed slides from most professors.
Professor Hollander is a great professor who genuinely cares a lot about his students and their class performance. The readings he gives out are moderate; however, there are pop quizzes over the readings, which are usually easy if you do the work. This class was a great experience, and I highly recommend it to people interested in the Holocaust.
Professor Hollander clearly cares deeply about the topics he teaches. He is excited about class. He holds his students accountable to the readings with pop quizzes, which are easy if you have done the reading. A few exams and papers were hard but doable. Fun discussions with prof hollander and peers and learned a lot!
It is a difficult class but professor Hollander does a great job teaching it. He teaches mostly through lectures. They are entertaining (and informative of course) so I had no problem staying engaged.
Dr. Hollander's teaching style is completely different from what I'm used to, however he is really engaging during class which helped me understand the material better.
The class is very participation heavy because if you miss a class you will be behind and it can pile on. There is a bunch of resources to help if struggling however.
Professor Hollander is an awesome professor who genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are engaging, readings are not insanely long, and he brings a fun energy to the class. 10/10 would take again.
Hollander is mean but he is mean in the way that a coach is; he does it because he is trying to push you to be your best. He is incredibly knowledgeable and a passionate lecturer, you can tell he believes every word he says. Do the readings and actively participate in class discussions and you will have no problems.
Professor Hollander is a tough grader and prepare yourself for plenty of readings. However, Professor Hollander is one of the funniest and coolest professors known to mankind. If you're looking for challenging courses that are also very memorable, take Hollander.
The professor demonstrates strong professional abilities through a clear and structured teaching style. Their lectures are well-organized, with key concepts broken down into simple, easy-to-understand parts. A lot of pop quizzes.
The professor is good at teaching and making things easy to understand. They clearly explain ideas and take time to go over anything confusing. Their classes are organized, and they use examples that help us see how the topic works in real life.
Overall an informative professor who will make you try and hold you accountable. I would recommend to any freshman because you will learn how to read… actually read. Pop quizzes suck but if you halfway read the articles you can pass them.
Dr. Hollander is a great professor; He teaches you how to get information by reading the texts he provides. He goes out of his way to provide us with relevant information by taking out unnecessary information from certain readings.
He is a professor who expects you to get your work done correctly. He is extremely fair and will help you if you put in the effort. There is quite a bit of reading for this course, but it is nothing unreasonable. His lectures are very informative and often hilarious.
Hollander is a great, but hard professor to take a class with. You can tell he loves what he teaches and is great at his job. He puts insane amounts of time in for his lectures and preparedness every day for class. I suggest you take extensive notes as well as attend as many classes as you can and you will succeed.
Good professor that cares about students really understanding the material instead of just skimming through the work.
He's an amazing professor, very interesting and explains very well. But please, beware of those pop quizes.
