Ethel is great! She makes class fun, one day I asked to have a "tell a fun story day" and she said yes! Pay attention to lectures and the class is a breeze. Go Ethel!
Ethel is the demon spawn of communications. A true slave driver. If you don't like turning in a project every three days and doing a presentation once a week, I'd advise you to drop this course.
Ethel is a great professor to take basic speech with. She's easy going and very easy to talk to. She's a fair grader and provides fun topics to speak about rather than dull research-based topics.

Ethel is very understanding. She makes the class fun, all you have to do is show up and do the outlines and speeches. I did really good in the class and I'm a lazy student.
ethel's great. class is super easy and fun
I am sure the professor means well. I am sorry, but she cannot teach. She sits up in her office half the time, and does not actually deatch class.
go to class and you will pass with an A
Ethel is a all around GREAT proff. Her class is my favorite this semester. I actually want to go to class on tuesday's and thursday's.
Ethel was AMAZING! Small group with Ethel was wonderful and she made it very easy to understand. She had us all stay in the same small groups the entire semester, but it was okay, because we got to pick our groups after three weeks of picking and choosing. The class is an overall A!
Not my favorite class, but by no means horrible. the subject is pretty interesting in itself, which is probably why the class wasn't that bad. she's a decent teacher, and very nice. i got a B without too much effort.
She's awsome and will give you the confidence needed to learn from mistakes. She's Awsome
Very nice, and a very good professor.
Ethel is a good teacher. However, she just takes attendance to seriously for a college class.
good professor, don't need the book, did pretty well in the class. just follow the format she gives you and it'll be fine. takes attendance every single class.
Ethel is amazing! Not only is she hilarious, she keeps class interesting. Sometimes she can seem a bit disorganized, but overall she was one of my favorite professors at EMU so far. She is very understanding, helpful and she really made it seem as if she cared about each student and their future and wellbeing. Highly reccomend her!!
tell you what is expected of you. a lot of papers. hard to stay awake in class and attendance is a must!
deducts points for talking in class, if her lectures werent more boring than staring at a wall for an hour then people would pay attention more. the class is rather pointless, i dont feel i have learned anything that is worth while or will help in the future.. if you do take this pointless class i do not recommend taking it with her...
Ethel is awesome. She has a great personality and believes in class participation, which makes the subject more interesting and fun to learn! She is very approachable and cares about what she teaches. She has great in-class activities almost everyday, so being in class is important, because you will need to know what was done for tests! :o)
Great professor. One of the best I've ever had!
Very nice, knows everyone by name. A few useless papers on movies that seemed like busy work. Graded fairly easy on papers. Test requires studying. Final depends on how well you do on your group Workshop. Workshop does require some WORK.
2-4 Response Papers(100), Childrens Book Activity(50), Listening Anaylsis(100), B.Columbine(100), P.Adams(50), Workshop(200), L.Research(100), Midterm(100).Final dependent on how well u do on Workshops.Dont buy the book,just study from the notes.Attendance is MANDATORY!No joke, she's very ANAL about it! She's boring (but nice),classmates are funny!
I had a wonderful time in Ethel's class. She was funny, interesting and understanding. I think you could only benefit from taking her class.
Ethel is great!! I had small group with her and it was one of the funnest classes I've had. She's super understanding and has a lot of fun with us. She's just awesome. Take her if you get the chance.
Ethel is awesome! She's really nice and knows her stuff! I think the class is really fun. If you like communication or just need a communication credit, she's a great professor.
Ethel is a wonderful professor! Her classes are fun and easy. She knows her material, is extremely clear about what is expected, and if you dowhat you're supposed to, you'll get an easy and fun A.
Ethel was a great teacher. The material was boring to me, but mandatory for my major. She was clear about assignments and helpful. Tests were a little more difficult than i thought they would be, but after i put a little more effort in my studying, i did way better on the 2nd test. Overall, great teacher
Ethel is a wonderful and dedicated instructor. She is honest with her students, let's you know what is expected of you and cares. I had a great time and her assignments/group work are full of interesting tasks/content.
Ethel is a fantastic professor. She is a very nice person & treats everyone with respect. Her lectures are easy to follow & very informative, she posts them all on the class website. She gives ample time to complete assignments and she's very willing to work with anybody who's struggling. One of the best i've ever had, she's terrific!!!
Ethel was very nice. Though her lectures can be somewhat boring, she does make an effort to include hands-on activities. Be sure to follow all rubrics exactly, or it'll really hurt your grade! Overall, though, she was a decent professor.
Ethel is amazing! I loved her for Nonverbal, I wished I could have taken her for other communication as well. She is a great lecture and gives many examples to get her points across. Her exams are easy, if you study. She usually let's her classes out early, if you're the last one for the day. Loved her! Take her!
Ethel is a great professor! She makes the topics so clear and easy to understand. Little to no homework other than a few group projects that aren't bad at all. Attendance is a part of grade but I didn't feel the need to skip her class.
Ethel was an amazing person and professor. The class is mandatory attendance, but she gives the students 4 days if they need to miss class. Weekly quizzes and just a few projects. I honestly loved this class and it taught me a lot. HIGHLY recommend taking this class with her!
Ethel is an awesome professor! We had weekly quizzes, but they were only 5 questions, and a note card was allowed. We also had to write a couple of papers on movies we watched in class, and we had to do a group project as our final. Take this class with her; you will love it as much as I did!
Ethel is super nice. She always explains the notes really well and makes the subject interesting. There isn't a ton of work for this class, but there's a moderate amount. You do need to read the book for the tests, there's a lot of information that she gets from the book for the tests that is not in the notes. Overall, Nonverbal was a great class!
She was an amazing professor. I did not mind waking up at 7am because i knew i was going to b sitting in her classroom within the next hour. She brought out the better speaker in me. One morning she also brought in muffins. I loved her.
Ethel is a great teacher! Her class is very interesting and clear. Book is helpful to have but not 100% necessary. I bought the book and used it a few times, but mostly for direct citations. For tests use study guides and a lot of information can be found from lectures. Enjoyed her class so much I am taking another with her for Winter!
Ethel is really nice and personable. She grades hard on presentations and visual aids. Tests are pretty self explanatory and easy if you go over the slides beforehand. Overall good experience.
Interesting class, with a teacher to match. She was helpful and was very knowledgeable of the course, but was EXTREMELY strict with due dates. She did not leave a lot of room for understanding. However, if you keep up with the notes and assignments you're guaranteed to do well. Her weekly 5 pt. quizzes are really easy, and you get a cheat sheet.
Ethel was a wonderful Intro Speech prof. She was relateable, respectable, and made good use of class-time. Speech assignments were creative, innovative, and fun. I learned so many life skills in that class. I recommend Ethel!!! :)
Very interesting class and she is helpful. There is not much day to day homework, but there are large assignments that you know about ahead of time. It helps if you participate.
I feel like Ethel teaches the material well and the textbook supports her lectures. The assignments and projects are helpful and don't seem like "filler" things. I emailed her a few times and she always got back quickly with helpful information. She is also understanding and fair. I would take a class by her again.
Ethel is great !! You do have a couple big assignments to do but she gives you the info ahead of time and they actually aren't hard at all. No tests only 5 point quizzes which are very easy to get 100% on because you get to use a note card. Very reasonable grader. I would take another class with her !! She defiantly knows her stuff.
Most of the speeches were clear cut and she was always there to answer questions. Do the speeches and the outlines and you'll be fine. Do not buy the textbook; we didn't use it once
Ethel was a TOUGH but fair teacher. She doesn't bend her rules for many and I was no exception. She is very clear with what is expected from you as a student, so long as you do this you'll pass. Don't skip class! My grade dropped an entire grade from missing 6 classes.
Very helpful, tests are fairly easy and to the point, and group projects/projects in general are very clear-cut and manageable. However, she very much enjoys listening to herself talk. She WILL draw out every minute of her allotted class time to tell a story she's already explained half a dozen times before. A good teacher, but a dry speaker.
Very specific grader
Not very willing to help students when it comes to late assignments. She is very funny and gives interesting lectures though.
Great Prof, taken her multiple times!
She was a great professor and made the class fun and interactive. We had quit a bit of group projects but they were not too hard and as long as you did each part you almost always recieved an A. Would take another class with her.
Need to show up to pass. Very nice and understanding. Grades fairly, you get what you put in.
I love Ethel!!! She is truly amazing! Overall great class. I ended the term with like a B but missed 6 classes so she took 10% off my final grade which was understandable. She gives you 4 free days to miss then after 5 she takes 5% and after 6 she takes 10% and so on.
I took her in an online speech class and she expected way more involvement then teachers usually do with online classes. We had several group projects which really doesn't make any sense if you're taking the class online, as you've never met and will never meet other students. Had to Skype/text my group mates often to complete assignments on time.
Ethel is a good prof & knows what she is talking about. I had her for 2 classes (CTAC 225 & 226) this semester and it was really hard. She lines up all her classes so that everything is due at the same time. TONS of group projects and not much downtime. Overall, if you like group projects, she is a great prof, just take her for 1 class at a time!
I would not wish this professor on my worst enemy. When I took this class I was a double major in Psychology and Communications. I changed it to Psychology with a minor in Com because I am only 2 classes away. This teacher ruined communications for me and now I hate it.
Ethel is an awesome professor! She has mastered the lecture. They consist of a perfect mix of of power point, video, and interesting discussion. Humor is often used as well. Aside from the lectures there is a healthy amount of assignments provided but they are very well explained before hand and the detailed rubrics are always on canvas. A+ prof
She is very well spoken.
Lecture Heavy but she tries to make it interesting. Not very friendly, if you email her you may or may not receive a response. If you have a question about your grade it is likely she will not answer it clearly. Has a big group project/presentation. Make sure you study lecture slides for the few exams. Attendance counts towards your grade.
Ethel is a great prof, I had her for 2 classes this semester and got easy As in both. She has very clear expectations and grades very easy. As long as you actually do the work and turn it in on time, I guarantee you'll get an A. We had two presentations, one group and one individual and some other easy assignments. I got a 55/50 on our first test.
Ethel is great! She loves her job in a calm but clear way. She is very easy to talk to, provides lots of real life examples to help you understand terms and concepts, and really wants you to learn. Our whole class liked her. Come to class on time, prepared, ready to discuss and participate. As long as you do these things, you'll do great!
Her class was super easy! She made it very interesting so it never felt dreading to come to class. There's a few papers and many quizzes; however majority of the quizzes were take home & if not, notes were allowed. I'd recommend not getting the book to save money because there's a copy at the library. As long as you show up, you'll pass.
I took her 3 week class and it was awesome. It is mainly group work, but not super hard. The projects were enjoyable but you do have to present them. I would definitely recommend taking this class, especially the 3 week. It was scheduled from 9-3 but we were out by 12:30. Very easy A.
Ethel is very understanding of students and realizes that there is life outside of school. The only problems I really had was that the class work was based off of a couple group projects (which weren't hard) and papers. The lectures were very interesting and ATTENDANCE MATTERS. She took it every day but she does give 4 free skips.
Ethel was a great professor! An easy grader and the group projects, though stressful at times, are pretty fun. Easy A, good course.
Not a hard class at all but its super boring, the lectures are boring an and attendance is mandatory. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, used it maybe once and still received an A-
There are a variety of papers, exams, and projects. The exams were vague at times--the group project was frustrating bc some group members didn't participate, but I communicated that with Ethel and it didn't affect my grade. We watched a LOT of videos in class and breezed through stuff. Ethel is chill though and I'd take her again.
Messy teacher, wasn't ever clear on what she wanted. Used out dated assignments you could tell she's been recycling.
She grades really harsh, but won't tell you why she graded it as such. In the comments she'll say that the assignment was great, and then give a 90/100. It feels like she just takes points off for the heck of it. She also doesn't know how to use Canvas. It's very confusing on what's actually do. Nothing has marked Due Dates. Would not recommend...
This is easily the most disorganized teacher I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. She does not clearly label her expectations on some assignments, and when she attempts to, the instructions are so unclear that you eventually have to figure out on your own what she wants. Avoid this teacher at ALL costs!
This teacher has no clue how to properly teach a class. The descriptions for her assignments were incredibly amateur, and felt like she had no clue what she was even asking you to do. On top of all that, she was unbelievably rude in her emails. Unless your major requires one of her classes, I would definitely avoid anything she teaches.
Does not accept late work, no matter what.
I dropped this class within the first day because of the workload she expects from her students. She expected you to do 3-4 discussion boards a week and 2 responses per board. Furthermore, her etiquette in email was beyond rude and she clearly has no sympathy for her students. Don't take her, it's not worth putting up with someone who doesn't care
Let me try this again, I don't think RMP approved my first review. Ethel is bad. Do not take her class. She does not care about her students. She is rude and cold. There is no sympathy or empathy. If you aren't a perfect student who never makes mistakes, do not, I repeat DO NOT, take her class. Especially during these COVID semesters.
She is quite rude and inconsiderate. She does not like to make her modules consistent, she finally did in the last month of the semester when requested. The work load could be seen as a lot but is very easy.
She doesnt take late work. Fine. But shes late and uses her family drama to explain why she isnt grading our work on time. Another review said amateurish. Thats apt. This prof sends unprofessional, condescending emails. With ALL CAPS on. She picks on people she doesnt like. She makes it hard to understand her or find directions. Run.
ethel was great! she made taking comm124 online a blast. she's a super understanding person, too. she's interested in getting to know you and she's an easy grader. definitely take her if you can!
Shes a nice person from what Ive seen but the way she grades is kinda confusing and the assignments are never presented clearly and the modules tab is very unorganized.
She either does not know how to use Canvas or she just doesn't add due dates for random assignments that are actually due for no reason and then marks you down for it. She also doesn't accept late work so you can imagine these two policies don't go well together. The actual content is fairly basic for a general cultural communication class.
Does not know how to use canvas. The modules tab is unorganized. Your assignments won't pop up on your to-do list, you have to go all the way into modules to see any assignments. Assignments are easy to forget about if you don't check modules every day.
The worst professor I've had at emu so far. She does not give clear instructions and takes forever to clarify. Nothing was graded until a week after the semester ended. MANY people did not pass simply because of a huge lack of communication. Stay away!!
0/10. She waits until the last minute to grade everything and she doesn't know how to use Canvas. Don't take her class.
She passed away but she was one of the most caring professors that i've had while i've been at Eastern. Rest in Peace and Power
She was an amazing and caring professor. I enjoyed the ability and privelage in having her as my professor for my first semester at EMU. I hope she rests well in peace.
