What Students Say
“AWFUL teacher, very overrated, not organized & makes no sense during lectures, those in the back cant see the board or hear what hes saying, makes his test SUPER HARD without preparing his students he makes lecture problems be level 1 and then tests on level 5 questions, not nice about partial credit, only good thing was lab bc it was easy”

Nice and really funny! Reminds me of Mr. Rogers from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood!!
funny teacher, cute chemistry experiments, lets you leave early, gives you days off. great all around, really relaxed in lab.
Dr. Berg is one of the best preofessors at Moorpark. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone that must take chemistry. Dr. Berg puts 100% into each class and is always available to assist his students.
Fun teacher. Can usually relate the subject matter to something interesting. Reminds me of Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Love Dr. Berg. Clear, fair and makes chem fun.
Very cool teacher and very helpful. BRUTAL TEST though
Tests are hard but you have to study! Great teacher and very funny! Sweet man! Gets to know his students and is very helpful!
#1 Chemistry Professor in quality, effectiveness, and personality! He guides you to learn what you need for exams, and makes sure everyone gets it. Individual help, demonstrations +++. Study lecture notes, book mainly for reference.
Great teacher all around, makes chem interesting and if you do the little homework he gives and study you will do fine.
one of the best teachers i have ever had. makes chemistry interesting. just follow the lecture and you will do well in class.
One of the best teachers at moorpark and almost, if not, the best teacher I've ever had. Enthusiastic about chemistry and his students. Highly recommended for anyone needing to take chemistry!
he is a great professor. He is clear, and his class is very fun and interesting. his tests are not easy.
By far the best teacher I've had yet. Breaks chem down into very simple concepts so you will feel like it's easy, but then his tests will BREAK YOU OFF!!! Brings cool experiments into class to help make a point. (Blows s*** up!)
A fun teacher. Usualy is not very helpful and tests are way too hard. Reminds me of Bill Nye the science guy.
his lectures are really entertaining and it's nice to see someone who loves teaching as much as he does. but his tests are WAY TOO HARD
tests are just way too hard! his lectures are amazing...simply super, but not a good idea to take him in terms of the grading aspect...man, his tests, i repeat, will RIP your asses!
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He deosn't give an easy A, but you are forced to understand the subject. I completely reccomend him!
If it's important for you to understand Chemistry, take Berg. If you only need some science units and you don't wish to work for your grade find another professor.
dr. berg is the best teacher i've had for any subject. he is an awesome lecturer and wants you to learn the material. his tests are *really* hard and you will work your butt off for a good grade, but it's way worth it. definitely take him.
Dr. berg is the best for chemistry. If you want to understand this subject, he's the guy. He explains everything so well and is so helpful if you need his help. His tests are tuff, but if you study hard, his tests are very fair. He's the best.
the best chem teacher at moorpark. tests are difficult though.
He is awesome. He makes chemistry seem a lot more easy.
Dr. Berg is probably one of the best teachers @ MC. His tests are very difficult, but he is such an excellent lecturer that if you take good notes, an A or a B are definitely within anyones reach. If you need to take Chem 1B go with Berg.
very awesome teacher, he is clear and fun but tests are hard
he is s funny good teacher helps when you need him and likes when students show effort and caring. however his tests are pretty damn hard- you need to study very well for those once. other then that he is a cool guy!
He's very funny, and makes the subject very interesting. But the tests can be hard, so try and form a study group. But he tries to be very helpful. He's a really great teacher.
Great funny teacher! Keeps you interested in the subject. Lightens the mood. Wish he taught every class here! Always does this cute "Badum Badum" when showing the answer to a problem. Love him to death! ^_^ The best teacher I have had so far! Hi
not a good teacher. i know a lot about science and he confused me on material i already knew. Not a good idea if you need things to be clear. Bad teacher!
Excellent teacher, very clear. Not too easy, not too hard. I learned a lot.
He is a great teacher. I learned a lot from him. He made the subject interesting. Warning! His tests are very difficult. You need to take excellent notes, and study your you know what off. Good Luck!
Has knowledge of the subjects he teach. Also, very helpful and great sense of humor. Makes class interesting and not boring.
Great teacher, pry one of the best @ MC. Has a very thorough understanding of Chem,is very helpful if you ask him for help and has a good sense of humor. Do the hw and thoroughly study your lecture notes as this is what he tests on, expect even the miniscule things from notes to be on tests.
Awesome teacher. Explains everything very well. Tests are difficult, but study lecture notes and you'll get an A.
BEST CHEM TEACHER THERE IS! i took chemistry 2 other times and berg made it clear. Do not take choi or keil. berg is a really nice guy and want to help you through the class.
Makes class interesting & entertaining with sample experiments & real-life applications, willing to explain repeatedly until there is full understanding. Tests are based on lectures and reviewed in advance so students are more prepared.
Attend every class, lecture oriented class, do the homework, and ask questions. Easy B if you put in the effort, if you actually study his notes and his labs, you have a shot at earning an A. Hard but very fair exams.
He was tough. I had to withdrawl my freshman year, and my friend had to withdrawl last year. He was very specific with his lectures, but he covered so much in one day, studying for a test was impossible, you didn't know what was going to be on it.
Dr. Berg is truly one of the best teachers! He illustrates what he teaches and his lectures are interesting. His quizzes are straight forward, but his test questions can be tricky. I really learned a lot in his class!
Great teacher. Easy to talk to, and makes the topics interesting. Lots of note taking, but his teaching is extremely good. 10 quizzes, 4 exams plus final. quizzes are straight forward but exams are hard. Don't miss a class otherwise you'll be lost. Good luck!
Very excited about chemistry and really knows his stuff. He relates the information to everyday life. Quizzes are easy, but tests are tough. Must go to class!
best teacher i've ever had
BERG IS AWESOME! He explains the material SO well! He's so excited about chem and you can tell he loves teaching. Quizzes/ Tests are straight from lecture and he tells you exactly what types of problems will be each exam. I hate chem but I actually enjoyed it with him. An A is very possible if you go to class. You will love Berg!

Fun teacher. He likes to do experiments in class wich makes it all the more fun. You don't have to read the book in his class. All the tests and quizes are lecture oriented. Quizzes are easy points. Tests are a little difficult but fair
best teacher ever. if you have to take chem i would take him over any other teacher at moorpark i just wish he still taught o-chem. take berg pay attention and be there everyday. he is really dorky and goofy but every one loves him. he is by far the best chem teacher i have ever had!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Silly, funny, and entertaining. He always keeps you guessing as to what he'll do next. Oh, and he's an excellent teacher as well.
He's awesomely great!! i don't know if that's a word!! :-) he's realllllllllyyyyyyy good!! one of the best teacher i've ever had!!
Fun teacher! He likes to do experiments in class which makes it interesting. He's always jumpy and perky. Everything is based off lecture, so if you miss a day of class, you're screwed. He explains the material very well. The only negative thing that I can say about him is that he acts very cold when you ask him questions outside of class.
Excellent teacher and he really brings chemistry to life, but his tests are off the wall! I ended up changing my major from biochem to art because of the class. If you are willing to put in the time and energy then take Berg above any other professor.
Berg is an excellent teacher. He explains the background of everything he presents making the explanation clearer and easier to remember. His tests are a tiny bit more advanced than what we do in class, but if you actually understand the material it should be no problem to reason out. Quizzes are easy 10 points and there are a total of 10 quizzes
very fun teacher. very nice and helpful. doesn't grade homework, so all homework is optional. quizzes were very easy. labs were easy and you usually get out about an hour earlier than the scheduled time. the only downside were that his tests were a bit harder than you'd expect. not too bad if you do a little studying though.
His lectures are easy to follow, but his tests are quite hard. He doesn't really give a lot of homework (none of it is graded anyway). His tests are based on his lectures, so don't miss class. Very entertaining.
he is the best teacher ever. he is really helpful and underestanding. very funny. he tells many joks to make his class interesting. if you couldnt register for his class he adds u for sure dont worry
Berg is an increadible teacher, i recommend him to anyone interested. I learned a lot and really enjoyed coming. All the tests are based on his lectures, there is no point in buying the book unless you like doing extra work to sharpen up. Take lots of very detailed notes, and study, then you will to fine. He is excited about his subject and makes y
Berg likes to trick you, plain and simple. Material on test is different than material discussed in class.
I learned a good amount of information. Unfortunately, what I learned I wasn't able to apply on the test. Caution when taking this class.
His lectures are interesting. Labs are easy points. Tests are hard. Easy to get a C or B in class. Hard to get an A. Take Dr. Franke instead.
Went over easy stuff in class. Gave the most complicated, convoluted test questions ever. Can't learn it yourself from book because he does not follow text material. Only uses book for general topics and HW which may or may not apply to test. He can explain well, but the tests require psychic abilities. Beware!
Berg is a freaking idiot. He is so hard and he can't teach. Plain and simple. I'm not saying this because I'm dumb... I got a B in the class. I'm just warning those who may take him. I wouldn't take his class again. And I'm prollie the only person in the school who hates him with a passion.
I don't know where all of these negitive comments came from. They are all from M01B and maybe he had a bad class that time, but over all, he is definetly the best teacher that I have ever had. I loved going to his class and I think he was very clear about the tests. If you listen, are sure to take notes, and study, you are sure to do well.
awww I LOVE BERG! it was hard but after you finish the class, you'll feel like you've accomplished so much and learned a lot too. He doesn't have an ego problem like most professors do who have his degree. He makes the class interesting too. If he was teaching 1B, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. It's not impossible to get an A... I did.
tests are more lecture based, so take good notes. He explains lab well and encourages group interaction. But beware of his tests because if you do not word your answers the way he did in lecture, he will take a lot off or mark it wrong. Overall a nice old guy, but he is extra nice to the young attractive females. So good Luck to everyone else!
his lecture in class is super easy, he treats you like a child, but his tests.... good luck it doesnt matter i you answered it right hill take points off if its not exactly the same as he stated it. oh and takes less points of people he likes. that's fare right?? Dont Take Him.
great teacher. you will learn a lot but tests are difficult. i struggled a lot but he was very helpful. take a lot of notes. tests are completely based on notes.
Dr. Berg is an excellent teacher. He makes lectures interesting with lots of experiments. Take excellent notes and ask questions along the way. Study notes thoroughly for the test. The test is a little harder than work assigned. An A student will review notes taken for clarity each lecture. Worked for me.
Dear Dear man. he's always prepared to give a comprehensive and interesting lecture, unlike many teachers who waste time by rambling or reading from the book. he is helpful and very friendly. you do have to study to do well, but if you don't know how to do that, you shouldn't be taking science classes.
Dr. Berg should be inducted into the legendary Chem Hall of Fame, he is a cheerful and brilliant teacher. If you want to get out of Chem each day glad you came, take B e r g.
This teacher just has fun teaching and it makes you want to learn.. his test arent the easiest but if you go to class take notes and study you will do fine and if you ever need help he is there for you and hes just funny heeheh
Best teacher at the school!
If it wasn't for Dr. Berg's excellent teaching methods, I would've dropped the course. He does experiments in class to help students better understand concepts. You must go to lecture to succeed. Very generous grading. If I can earn an A in the class, than you can too. If you take good notes and study them well, you will get the grade you want.
Mr. Berg was always ready to help after class with questions anyone had. I enjoyed his lectures. He made Chem. interesting. Only thing was the tests. I have to admit that the tests did not coorelate to h/w questions. They were kind of random.
Dr. Berg's lectures are very tolerable. He explains materials very clearly. Attending the class lecture and studying will get you an "A" in the class. The quizzes are always during the start of the class time. His tests are the hardest. Make sure to understand the "Berg-type" and the "super killer" questions. Easy to pass. Hard to get an "A"
Wow, the most incredible teacher ever!! The best teacher you'll ever take, I can't wait to take another class with him
WOW!! the most incredible teacher you will ever take!Likes to blow things up in lecture,so there's never a dull moment:) THis is the best teacher ever!!!
Great teacher! made class interesting by doing expirements. no hw collected easy quizzes, but the tests were kinda tough even with the study guide. Berg's always willing to help though, he's a really nice guy =D
Very good teacher. If you do the home work and study for tests you can defenitely get a good grade. Interesting class!!! One of the best teachers i've ever met!!!
he is an amazing professor! will try to help you as much as he can and his labs are fun and easy. tests are kinda hard, only because he'll mark you off on stupid errors. take him!!! hes reallly nice and easy to understand! and he makes the class fun! labs get out really early too!!
He is hilarious, fun and very entertaining. I highly recommend him, but only if you're looking for an interesting teacher as opposed to an easy class. His tests are pretty hard and you need to do a lot of studying to get an A or B. Just keep in mind that EVERYTHING he lectures about will probably be on the tests.
WOW THIS TEACHER WAS AMAZING HE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP AND HIS LECTURES WERE INTERESTING!EASY CLASS IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND TAKE NOTES ON EVERYTHING HE SAYS B/C EVERYTHING HE LECTURES IS ON THE TEST AND DO STUDY GUIDE AND LOOK OVER NOTES BEFORE TEST!
Fairly hard teacher, problems he assigns are not at the level of his test problems, you have to understand the concepts well to do well in the class. If you plan to just memorize a way of doing something and reproduce it on the tests your not going to do well. Got an A in both Chem 1A and 1B but I took the time to learn. Not an easy A.
dr.berg is a great teacher, he is extremely helpful and he explains things well.his tests are hard but if you study your notes and do the study guide you will do well. i highly recommend taking him
to sum it up: hard class but he explains things really well! amazing prof, NEVER use the book, tests are hard, but if you study your notes REALLY well, even an A isnt that hard. CHECK for mistakes on the test before turning it in, cuz small mistakes = huge point loss :(.. overall AMAZING, FUNNY, HELPFUL, TAKE HIM!!
Textbooks are never used so don't buy one. Take REALLY good notes. His tests are based off of his notes. There are weekly quizzes on stuff learned during that week. The tests themselves are extremely hard so know EVERYTHING in his notes.
Berg is the best!
He's really smart and really knows his stuff, but his lessons are kind of scattered and his test problems are way more advanced than anything we do in class. You get an automatic 90% on your labs. Overall, he's a good teacher and he makes chem really fun and interesting.
I have never rated a professor before. This is my first semester at UCLA after transfering from Moorpark. Berg is such a great teacher. I feel bad for anyone who has to learn chem from someone else. I am taking organic chemistry here and am totally prepared. He is passionate about the subject and teaches every class as if it was his first time!
berg is not an easy teacher, but I can safely say he is the best professor at moorpark. He makes lectures realy interesting. His tsts can be tricky, but they are definately doable if you study your notes thuroughly. Berg=best! After taking this class and seeing how he inspires his students,I've decided that I want to teach as well.Thank you Dr. Berg!
He's always willing to help. He's very nice and entertaining. His lectures are very comprehendible, so as long as you ask for help when needed and study your notes thoroughly, you should do well. He's also very helpful in lab. I would highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Berg is ok. His tests are very hard and sometimes his questions can be unclear and tricky. He is very helpful in lab and his lectures are entertaining with demonstrations and all. I'd recommend someone a bit easier, but if you try really hard all of the semester, you might get an A. It is chem after all. It isn't English.
I LOVE DR. BERG! the best teacher i taken at moorpark college! just study your notes and do the homework and you'll do fine. he's funny, nice, and makes class very interesting! i ABSOLUTELY hated chem prior to taking his class, now i love it!
Nice Teacher, Book Is Hardly Used (He gives practice problems in the book to use). Test are hard, and are different than what he teaches you in his class. Attend every class as he teaches something very important everytime. Review your notes, hard to get an A. Nice guy and good lectures. Makes me believe i understood the material till the test.
Berg is the man! His lectures are crystal clear and he keeps them interesting by doing fun experiments in front of the class. In order to get an A on his tests you need to know the material very well. Use the tutoring center to master conversion factors and you should be fine. Take him!
Nice man, & Funny.. However, completely overrated. Never EVER has been in office hours, Automatic 90% cap on Lab grade, Tests/Final/Quiz's are meant to trick you no matter how confident you are on the subject. Good Bye 4.0 GPA. I would NEVER take another class with him again (I recommend "Dr. Joiner"). Good luck, you will need it with Berg. (C-)
I loved this class! Dr. Berg's lectures are straight to the point. He is very clear about what to study for the exams and quizzes. Labs were straight forward and we usually left early. If you study the exams, the final exam is a breeze. I highly recommend this class!
Dr. Berg is the best. I was dreading chemistry, but he not only made lectures that were clear and concise, but they were actually fun and interesting. Tests can be challenging, but do hw and ask for help and they are managable. He is always ready and willing to help his students. One of the nicest instructors I've ever had!! =)
BEST TEACHER EVER!! i wish he taught all my classes. you dont need the book all you need is to take notes.. tests and quizes are exactly from the notes TAKE BERG!!!! you understand it and you can get an A
LOVE Dr. Berg! Fun and entertaining. Don't need the book but DO need to be in class every day or you'll miss imp. info. He made the class fun and teaches in a way that really helps you to remember the information. He was referred to me as the teacher to take and now that I have, I know why! Thanks, Dr. Berg!!!
LOVE THIS CLASS! he is SO nice & has a great way of teaching. tests are kind of hard, but if u go to class you should do fine. attendance is definitly not mandatory, but if you miss class u will miss alot of info. BEST TEACHER. if you take Chem, TAKE HIS CLASS!
Pros: He's funny, extremely intelligent, extremely clear, and you will get an A if you study. Cons: Tests are extremely tough. This class is not an easy A, but it is Chemistry. I got a B- because i didn't study. 90% cap on labs might frustrate the people who believe they can do a lab perfectly. Overall, great teacher. I'll be taking him for M01B.
Such an outstanding teacher! He is one of a kind and will always be the greatest chemistry professor this school will ever have. Exams are difficult but the questions come straight from lecture so go to class and take clear notes! I got an A but I worked really hard. Ask him for help he loves to help.
Prof Berg is an awesome teacher. He explains EVERYTHING and if you still don't understand he is happy to help you before or after class. Not an easy class, but if you take good notes (used book only for homework and a reading assignment or 2)and listen in class, you'll do fine.
im almost a 4.0 student and with all these good rating about Berg i was like why not take him?! i love chemistry but his tests are rediculously hard. im probbably going to end up with an 85 becuase i would need a 95+ on the next tests which is impossible. he is a great teacher altohouh but he teaches chem like his nothing when his tests are imposib
TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE OFFERS NO EXTRA CREDIT.. EVEN NERD IN MY CLASS CRY BECAUSE THEY GET B'S ON THE TEST... DO NOT RECOMMEND. BUT HE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER HIS TESTS ARE JUST IMPOSSIBLE....drops ur gpa its a 6 unit class
I understand how people freak out from his tests, but they are a fair overview of what he teaches. Hands down my favorite professor, he's helpful and LOVES to TEACH! He wants you to understand the material, you are only judged on your own performance, but in M01B, he's not going to baby you. You HAVE to study and attend to pass class.
Dr Berg is an amazing teacher. I got an A in his class but I wrote down and drew out everything that came out of that man's mouth! you have to... and you'll see why! The sneaky questions come from his demos (thats the secret :) youll love this class. Very fun. He does cap the lab but he gives cushion points for good exam scores as extra credit.
Dr. Berg is an AMAZING guy. He's REALLY tricky on his test though. If he says "don't write it down it's just and example" Write it down anyway,it's usually the hardest question on the test. You need to know everything in your notes for his tests. Do that and you will be fine. Labs were SO fun, he made them up himself for this class. take him!
Not an easy professor, but he keeps you motivated enough to make up for it. He covers all of the material well, and all of his tests are fair, even if they are difficult. His corny humor grows on you after a while as well. Overall, he is probably the best teacher I've ever had in my 14 years of schooling, and I'm going to miss not teaching me.
Not an easy A for starters. Tests are mostly base on his lectures so make sure you take good notes.
He is a great professor, you do have to study but easy to get an A if you show up to every class. he is lecture oriented so all his exams are soley based on the notes. Hardly ever use the book, but a great reference. I recommend that you take this professor!!!!!
Well, most comments about this professor are very positive. Sorry, with the few that think that he is not a good teacher, I agree. I am sure that he is a genius in the field of chemistry. I had a real hard time following him and had an A in chem 12. I really did not like his style at all. It was a mistake to take him.
Dr. Berg is a fantastic teacher. He really loves what he does and explains things rather well. Hes really funny and jokes all the time. He's not too difficult, just do the homework and study for his tests, which aren't too bad.
berg is an awesome teacher but his tests are really difficult. expect to get one letter grade lower than what you got in your chemistry m12 class
Berg is by far the best teacher for chemistry. He's VERY helpful and clearly knowledgeable in the subject. Most of his tests aren't easy and will require you to spend time studying your lecture notes, but you won't regret taking his class. He also has a quirky sense of humor and makes the class more enjoyable. Can't wait to take Chem 1B with him!
To be honest, i have a 4.0 and study more for this class than any i have ever studied. never imagined it would be easy but his class makes me not want to follow the career path i wanted to. his test are ridiculous though i knew his notes and hw problems inside out. very frustrating. attendance is mandatory if u even want a somewhat decent grade.
This is the 2nd time I've taken Dr. Berg. He is easily one of the best professors I've ever had. He's funny, brilliant, and so helpful. His tests are not easy but if you study your lecture notes... all of them... you'll do fine. His expectations are clear and his grading is fair. Attendance is not mandatory but don?t miss a class!
Dr. Berg is the most amazing professor I have had here at Moorpark College. His lectures keep students interested, and his tests make you think - hard. If you are willing to put in the effort and time to study the material, a B should be fairly easy to earn and an A could be in reach. Thank you Dr. Berg, for an utterly fantastic semester!
I love Dr. Berg. He's my favorite professor of all time. I've never worked harder and learned so much. It was an honor to have been his student for 2 semesters. He is the best, nicest, smartest professor at Moorpark. If you dont want to work hard, dont take him. If you want to learn what your made of sign up.
He is the best professor i have ever had. he is smart, helpful, approachable, and really cares about the students. Not too many professors like him around. The class is difficult but if you go to class everyday, study your notes, and ask questions you will do great. i dont recommend anyone else but Berg for chemistry. absolutely amazing professor.
Very Clear. take the class with him if you want to learn. Not too easy but you can get a good grade if you study.
Excellent professor who made lecture so interesting. You have to think HARD for this class, but it feels so good once you've figured it out. One of the best teachers I've ever had, and I've been at UCLA and have some grad school experience. Not too many like him around.
Berg is a great professor, nice guy, and gets straight to the point in his lectures. His tests are completely based on his lecture and they are never something you haven't reviewed for. I highly recommend him.
He was very helpful. never made you feel stupid for asking a question. Kinda deaf if not looking at you. REALLY HARD TESTS!!
Dr. Berg is a wonderful professor who is really helpful.During his office hours, one always sees many students hanging around his office. Before Chem1A,I was O.K. with Chemistry, but after taking this class, I really love Chemistry. He is able to bring theories into practical settings. Because of Dr. Berg's influence, I am going major in Chemistry.
Whoever mentioned tests being hard were extremely correct! Wow! He is such a sweet adorable man, and loves chemistry. But the guy can't teach for squat! I truly love him as a human being. But his notes are scattered, none of the hw match exam questions. I don't know y everyone recommends him. He truly doesn't help me learn chemistry. Thumbs down :(
What a nice teacher. But extremely unfair. Makes class fun but made me lose my faith in chemistry, I did all my hw but none of it showed up on the tests and guess what? My grade was affected by that! He should retire. Not a high caliber professor, and doesn't comprehend that he should give us wiggle room if we do bad on first exam. We don't know what to expect, wish I would have taken Chem with someone more capable of teaching students properly. I guess i just care to know the material thoroughly
Berg is a great professor, but he moves very fast. Almost every section was accompanied by a kinesthetic example and practical applications. Take him if you are actually interested in learning and care to dedicate your time to this class, it is well worth it. But, he is one of the hardest test-writers I know.
He is a great professor who knows what he is talking about. He does jump around the book, so it is hard to follow if you study from the book. All of his tests and quizzes are based off his lecture notes, so if you follow along in class well you'll be fine. He tests on understanding not memorization, so make sure to ask questions.
Very hard to follow because he goes extremely fast!!! Tests are outrageously difficult and h.w. is pointless to do because it will not help you. You will find tests are based on notes and labs. Also, very hard to take notes when he goes so fast and is very sloppy. Although, a very cute sweet man who is extremely intelligent! you can't win 'em all.
Berg is a wonderful professor. He isn't easy and his tests require you to think. He requires you to learn the material and apply the concepts in order to do well. Pay attention to lecture and take good notes. He doesn't grade homework but it does help to do the assignments. Frequent quizzes, 4 tests, and a cumulative final.
His tests are UNNECESSARILY hard. He always put random questions on them to make sure that people get some wrong. Chemistry is a tough subject and his tests made it even more difficult. His quizzes and labs were ok. He is very nice and passionate about chemistry and teaches it extremely well, but another professor would be way easier. Avoid him!
Tests are extremely hard. Teaches facing the board and hardly turns around to look at the class. Very passionate and excited about the material which makes class much more fun. Labs and quizzes are a breeze. His test come from left field and you have to know every single little bit of information.
Berg is such a nice and friendly man, always smiling and willing to help. He's very smart but his tests are extremely hard. Write down everything he says in class, even if said only for a second. It'll most likely be on the tests. I got C's on most of the tests and ended with a B in the class.
I think Berg is an incredible teacher. His class is amazing. I don't think his tests are hard at all. Be a good student, go to his office hours if you need help and pay attention. He gives you pretty much all the types of problems that are going to be on the test, and if you understand the material it should be fine. Really passionate guy.
Professor Berg's class isn't easy, but he's there to help you if you need it, and he's a fair grader. He teaches almost entirely by lecturing, and only uses the textbook for homework, so you have to pay attention or you'll fall behind. His tests and quizzes are difficult, but he's an easy-ish grader, and I will be taking him for M01B next semester.
Dr. Berg is a great teacher. Extremely smart and knowledgeable in Chemistry, and there if you need help. His lectures tend to be a lot easier than the actual tests. His exams are a killer and can be really confusing if you don't go to class. About 10 quizzes and no extra credit.
He's great! Really there for you, teaching methods are effective, and the guy is super nice. You do have to learn, and chemistry is hard, but I would highly recommend him.
I'm the same reviewer who said she was taking his M01B class, in the review from 12/12/2015. My review of him for this class is largely the same: he's a good teacher, and he's willing to help you, but his tests are very hard. That said, I would take him again. You can pass if you work hard and study. He teaches entirely by lecture, so take notes.
AWFUL teacher, very overrated, not organized & makes no sense during lectures, those in the back cant see the board or hear what hes saying, makes his test SUPER HARD without preparing his students he makes lecture problems be level 1 and then tests on level 5 questions, not nice about partial credit, only good thing was lab bc it was easy
He is a very nice man. Yet, he is a very tough grader. He does give partial credit, but it isn't enough. Passing the class is doable, but if you don't do well on the final, forget getting an A or B. His exams are very hard. Homework that he assigns is utterly useless for exams. Students that got an A, got them because they cheated!
He is a really nice guy, but a very hard grader. class is acceptable if you want to pass with a C, maybe a B. I had 1 B and 3 A's on exams going into the final and it brought my final grade to a B. Yet, the girl next to me had 3 C's and 1 B going into the final and didn't do well. Yet, she managed a B in the class. GO FIGURE!
Very nice professor, However one of the toughest graders, Homework will not get you ready for Exams if you ask for addition help/ problems he will just say google some. The problems he does during lecture are basic verse exams are super hard. Lastly, had a 4.0 till taking this class. I've taken other harder science course. beware!!!!!
4 Unit Exams, 1 cumulative final, 6 quizzes this summer. Quizzes were super easy out of 10 pts! Labs were fast not too difficult. Must get in a study group in order to do well study! study!, Exams very tough and wording is very confusing, final is nothing like the 4 exams. It is very likely to get a C or B, but very difficult to get an A.
I took this class during summer. He is a very wonderful teacher. Lectures are fun, but teaches by writing on the board. He gives examples of problems, but are easy compared to his exams. Quizzes are easy. Exams are very tough. He grades on a curve, but it doesn't matter because a lot of students cheat. C or B grade is doable, A is extremely tough.
Berg is the hardest chem professor I have ever taken, but this doesn't mean you cant pass his class. He is a tough grader but awesome at explaining and answering questions. you have to put a lot of time into this class if you want to pass with a good grade. his tests and quizzes are hard. key to a good grade? take great notes! he uses the board!!1
He is a really nice guy, but his exams are tough. He gives problems on the board, but they are nothing like his exams. He tells you to study your old exams for the final, but the final is tougher than any of his previous exams and all look different. I do not recommend him if you want an A. If you want to pass, then take him.
Really liked Dr. Berg. Hardest class I've ever taken, but he was probably one of my favorite teachers of all time. His lectures make you interested in the subject matter, and he's been a teacher here for 40+ years so he's super respected and knowledgeable, I would take him again for 1B but doesn't work with my schedule :/ Take him if you can.
Professor Berg is the BEST professor I have ever had and I hated chemistry before taking him. I loved him so much I took him again for CHEM MO1B and I was able to get an A in both classes. You will most definitely have to work for a good grade... tests are hard but he is always willing to help so go to office hours and show him you want to do well.
Dr. Berg has been teaching chemistry for literally half a century, he knows what he's talking about. Good lectures don't have slides, he goes up and writes from his own knowledge, this makes notes pretty simple in his class. However, his tests are DIFFICULT and really make you think. But, if you dedicate time and energy to his class you're fine.
Dr. Berg is a wonderful, caring teacher with years of experience and knowledge. He really wants his students to do well and understand his material. His tests are HARD because there is no multiple choice, but he is usually fair in grading and gives partial credit. If you want to do well in this class, take a lot of notes on his lectures!
The best professor I've ever had. I usually never leave reviews on this website but I felt compelled to do so for this teacher. He gives great and engaging lectures. He is hilarious with a great personality. Teaches very well and gives fair tests. Literally reminds me of the sweet Grandpa who gets you whatever you want for Christmas. The man.
He knows the material very well. He keeps lectures interesting with short stories that pertain to the subject matter. He does experiments and examples during lecture that really help keep students engaged. If you work hard, you'll get an A. He is a little hard of hearing so if you ask a lot of questions, sit in the front of lecture hall.
Knows his stuff but is not good at conveying it. His lectures often seem unorganized and he does not provide difficult practice problems. He says to go see him for advice if you fall behind, but when I went in he just told me to re do the homework and re read my notes (like I havent already). Take another professor.
Horrible Professor. Barely got a B on my first test (which was way harder than the lectures). When I went to him for studying advice he just told me to re read his lectures. His lectures are sloppy and have horrible examples compared to the tests. Worst professor I have ever taken. Had to drop to save my gpa (6 unit class).
I am going to have to say I disagree with the other comments about professor berg being a bad teacher. He is a really good teacher who wants the best for all his students. I took his 8-week summer class so it was very fast pace. Had 5 quizzes and 4 exams and 1 final. If you are willing to work hard and put the time in, getting an A is doable.
His lectures are good and he makes the material easy to understand. The same goes for the lab. However, be provides you with homework from the textbook which is far too easy when compared to in-class problems. His tests are some of the hardest tests I have ever taken, with the questions being unreasonably hard with no examples being done before.
I can't stress how passionate of a professor Dr. Berg is. If you show you care about the subject, he is there for you 100% of the way. He makes chemistry understandable, but don't take this statement as "You'll get an easy A." It's chemistry. You need to study hard and work for your A. I recommend Berg to anyone and everyone!
He comes off very genuine and friendly until it comes to him grading. He goes so fast in class no one feels comfortable asking questions. Homework is nothing like the tests. Even if you try and talk to him, he does not care if you don't understand it and will just assume your stupid since hes been doing this 50 years. All quizzes and tests, no EC.
If I can save anyone time and money, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU ARENT ALREADY PASSIONATE ABOUT CHEM. if you study really hard, you'll pass, maybe not with an A, BUT anyone who is not the best in chem and needs a GOOD professor who answers questions, and has actual how that will help you, You will end up hating him and failing the class. I told U
Dr. Berg is an amazing Chemistry professor if you are passionate about chem already. He lectures pretty quickly and is hard of hearing so it is difficult to ask questions during a lecture. If you want a good grade you need a study group.
Doesn't teach at all. Not a good online teacher AT ALL! Studied hard daily and yet nothing I studied would end up on the exams or quizzes. He also flip flopped saying that the textbook was important to study and then saying it wasn't useful at all and just to study his lectures, either way I did both, went above and beyond, and still didn't do good
One of the best teachers I've ever had! If you email him he responds in a few hours and is super helpful. He is also very understanding with deadlines. He cares for his students and does his best to help you out in any way.
Professor Berg is a very solid chemistry teacher. His lectures are pretty easy to follow and the labs are pretty simple to complete. Most of the points come from quizzes and exams. If you study and work hard, an A is definitely achievable
Dr. Berg is an absolute genius! He is sweet, kind, and caring. If you can't make a quiz or test, he says, "Don't worry, just let me know when you can take it". If you do the HW, you will do fine. 100% NOT an easy A so don't slack off. He has been teaching chem for over 50 years. One of the best professors at Moorpark!!
Berg is so so sweet and loves teaching and it shows. However, his tests are significantly harder than the lectures and usually have things meant to trick you. Really hard tests. GO TO OFFICE HOURS HE GOES OVER THE TEST MATERIAL WITH SIMILAR EXAMPLES. I didn't do the textbook work because it was so beyond different than lecture material I couldnt.
Professor Berg is awesome. If you put in the effort to understand, you'll do great. Make sure to ask him clear questions if you don't understand something; he will do his best to help you learn. He's an amazing teacher. I would absolutely take any class taught by him.
He is very well versed in chemistry and seems super passionate about it as well. I enjoyed his lectures and they are all recorded so you can watch them anytime. The only negative I have is that he does not go on campus so we had a different lab professor. She was super rude... So if you take his class online you will likely get a bad lab prof.
I loved him! He has been teaching at Moorpark since it first opened and you would think he would be bitter or bored having had to teach so many chemistry classes but he was the opposite. He really seems to care about teaching and his student's success!
Homework and textbook readings are optional, you only do them if you want to dive deeper into what you are learning. There's 2 lectures a week, which are recorded if you can't attend live zoom and both under an hour, and a 2 question quiz at end of each week.Theres five exams total, but they aren't difficult because he explains everything clearly.
Great teacher! He teaches everything so clearly that I didn't even once have to do the optional reading. He'll never test you on something he didn't give an example of in the lecture. He's a very intelligent guy, mostly because he's been teaching chemistry for over 50 years now (yes over 50 years), and will answer any questions. He truly cares.
Really great professor! Funny dude and has a great understanding of the subject. All of the exam and quiz questions were based directly off the lectures or ripped from there straight away. The homework problems are unrelated and not necessary to get an A. He lowered the percent requirement for an A from 90% to 87%. Overall great experience!
Lectures were 2x a week on zoom (optional to attend). He pulls from random parts of the textbook. Exams were extremely difficult, he goes over them in lectures after. Lab professor is different teacher, she wasn't good at explaining but the labs are easy to get an A.
I'm astounded by how many positive reviews this guy has. Half the class withdrew lol. 4 Exams, 1 Cumulative Final, 10 Quizes (lowest dropped). Labs with a different teacher and his lectures didn't follow the lab schedule. Mediocre lectures, quizes were easy, exams were VERY difficult. He doesn't set you up to succeed on exams.
