difficult tests
very hard to get good grade
yes, very harsh grader, no leniency, not helpful and boring!
Decent, straightforward teacher. Considerable homework (not collected). Exams are not overly difficult. Can ask questions on HW at the start of each class. Not as hard to get a good grade as students say. Lecture could be a bit more dynamic.
He gave me A, A+. He is NOT a harsh grader. Admit that you are not good in math. He was absolutely fair. His mathematica course was exciting, educational, and made me decide to pursue in this field.
difficult tests
he is hard but if u study as u should, u should get through.
if you are not good at math, this will be a hard class. He is very broad about what to study, you basically have to study all the hws. He gives about an hour to two hours of hw a night. Not easy at all, but is interesting and helpful.
he's a very decent guy and teaches very well. the homework isn't that much and exams aren't that hard if you study the hw problems. would explain over and over so you understand.
Explains well and knows his stuff, but he's a cold and ruthless grader. Also pessimistic. If you fail the first test, recommends dropping the course instead of encouraging.
Hard but a great professor. You will learn a lot. If you understand ALL the homework questions (especially the hard ones), you will do fine. Study, Study, Study. Don't expect a free A in this class.
This is an odd combination, he's a very good teacher/communicator, you will find that you'll understand the material, come test time you'll feel like you're in a graduate math course!!
If you're NOT a math whiz, don't take him. Expects you to know old material. Exams are tough, and he may ask theory/definition questions.
Great teacher, very helpful, gives clear and thorough explanations, makes the information interesting and relevant, wants students to understand information and succeed in course and helps them do so
no, no, NO

Great teacher. Really patient in helping the students feel comfortable with the information before going on to next level. Info in class is hard but i felt like i really understood it very well. That is until i took the exams. They are very hard! He gives loads of homework, which you need to do to understand material. Dont miss class!
He is an excellent professor. The material is very hard, but he does pretty good on explaining and gives (little tricks) to remember the material. TAKE GOOD NOTES. The notes help very much, as well as the HW.
tone down -- your students aren't steve nash.
He drops one of the lowest test score. most of questions comes from hw. must do the hw before hand. he is the best math prof i ever had. so take him, if you are average. LAZY PPL: DONT TAKE HIM. AVERAGE, CAN. HAHA
He is a good teacher---but you have to study because the exams are kind of difficult !
He does teach and goes over homework problems. But the exams will kill you. The exams are extremely difficult and he is a tough grader.
One of the toughest, yet clearest Math professors I've ever had. I would reconsider taking him again during any accelerated Summer Session. Homework nightly 3+ hours. Only gave a midterm(33%) and final(67%), with 2 extra credit assignments worth 10 total points. He does NOT curve. Do not think of being late, let alone absent! Be certain!
Be prepared to spend many hours each day to complete the homework and keep up with the material. You'll need to come to each class, fully prepared and you'll need to pay full attention, or else you will be lost! Good luck if you take this professor for this class!
Good teacher, explains everything clearly and is very helpful. The only thing is that he give alot of homework and it usually takes you hours to finish. Tests questions are usually based on homework problems..
He does teach and goes over homework problems. But the exams will kill you. The exams are extremely difficult and he is a tough grader.
he's good compared to the others. he will explain and clarify things for you. but u got to do the HW or else...fail!!! hahahaha...but seriously u got to take him..but u got be deligent...n he will help u out with ur grade in the end if u not dont do well on the final.
He is a great professor. He enjoys teaching students. His lecture is clear and easy. If you do HW, you must think that math is not difficult.
He is a great professor. Just do the homeworks and you'll be fine. he gives 2-3 hrs of homwork everynight. The kay to passing this class is by doing the homeworks.
I took it over the summer. if you do the homework, then you should have no problem in his class.he explains very well. listen carefully and take good notes.
Hard class, but excellent professor. His lectures were very clear and helpful. He goes over homework problems and answers all the questions you may have. Just make sure that you attend classes and finish the assignments on time. This will This class requires lots of studying.
Great professor, extremely considerate. Explains the material very well. Expects you to do the hw- but it will def help on the exam. Overall great teacher, and very fair.
He is a experienced prof. explain everything clearly. Easy A+, you can try it.
Took for summer, runs very fast, helpful if you have a previous background in calculus. Don't get distracted in his class or you will miss out. Tests are somewhat fair. Teaches a lot of proofs which are useless to non-math majors. He may ask you to reproduce a proof on the test. Not a generous grader. Overall arrogant but smart.
Very hard course. He doesn't care you. He finished the course very fast. Very hard final question. I am wondering whether any student got any A in his class.
ok explaining the material.very very hard tests.
Professor explains material clearly, no tricks, no shortcuts. However like the comments before mine, his exams are hard. Which means you'll have to work extra hard. recommend this professor over Braun.
I don't know who arre those guys says Don is dood professor. His lesson are very hard to understand. I didn't get any other course , therefore i was forced to take this course. So i recommend students if you have option skip this professor. In my class, only three students got A out of 21 students( 4 drops).
Don"t know how to teach. He thinks all students know everything. If you are really smart take this professor.
Tests are really hard. Grading policy is good.
Good teacher, watch the first test. If the problem takes over 5 minutes you missed the trick.
Simply put, here's how the course goes... Here's the material, here's how it works, now try it yourself. Repeat. For most of the course, his explanations are well done and clear. Exams are slightly easier than assigned HW problems so get them done and understand them.
His lectures are crystal clear, if you listen you should have no problem understanding the material. He doesn't assign more homework then other math professors. However, his exams can be extremely difficult. Most questions have some sort of trick, and if you miss it you will lose most points. He curves the grades, and he is very fair.
Dr. Don is one of the best professors. Calculus with him is not boring at all. He explains material very well. A key to success: do your HW! I am looking forward to take another class with him. Good Luck!
His test is freaking hard and no review sheet. The only review u going to get is the ALL the HW question, which is like 150 question and the test is very tricky WTF. HE grade super hard no mercy at all i felt like he like failing people. U can take this class if u a NERD OR A GREEK. i study so hard and almost fail WARNING DONT TAKE HIM CLASS PERIOD
WARNING DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OR U GOING TO FAIL BECAUSE HE GRADE THE TEST TOO HARD.
i dont like seeing that happy face
Worst professor at queens college. Very demeaning towards his students. Assigns too much hw. Exams are extremely hard. Gets very frustrated if you ask to re-explain hw or proofs. Please avoid taking him!!!!
Crystal clear teaching style. Do all the assigned homework. His tests are difficult so make sure you have a lot of practice from the homeworks. Very nice and helpful if you have trouble understanding. Not an easy A but a fair grader.
Took this professor twice, for 152 and 131!! got a b- for one and b for another. As long as you do the home works and put in a little effort, You should be fine. fair grader!!
this guys suck dont ever take him i study so much and still fail. I beg u guy not to take him. Also this professor rate himself
He gives you alot of HW. Too much HW. he doesn't even go over all of them. I don't think he's very clear but clear to understand a little bit, I used the txtbk to study but that doesn't help much either. You have to go to him during his office hour if you really want an explanation of the course material.
Very clear lecturer. Gives too much homework though, and tests were of medium-high difficulty. Loves to put tricks in tests, but if you do all the homework, you should have no problem taking the tests. Willing to answer any and all questions, so if you don't understand, just ask. Overall a challenging course, but at least you'll get to learn.
Study.
his tests are not that difficult but he give little to no partial credit; he's a very conceptual teacher so his exam questions are conceptual problems but i've never seen a math teacher give such little partial credit. half the class gets high grade and half fails miserably no one gets in between.
Great teacher. Happy to be in his class
He like to "cut" in class, shotcut, make esay example, teach fast in each section. However, in his test, it's hard++. if you take his class, better to study by yourslef.
Summer takers - don't take Math 152 lightly. Everything is crammed into 6 wks and the prof breezes through the material bc of time constraints. The textbook is horrible - hard to teach yourself the material. Prof Don is sweet and does his best to explain the material, but you're on your own. Exams can be brutal, but curved as needed! Do your HW!!
I took this professor this summer (2012).He is a very knowledgeable professor. He is the second good math professor I've come across at Queens College. He TEACHES...TEACHES.....Very helpful too. Tests are challenging, but if you do the homework that will help a great deal. VERY GOOD PROFESSOR. QUEENS COLLEGE PLEASE HIRE MORE PROFESSORS LIKE THIS!!!
He's good. The only problem is is their exam system. I think their department makes all math exams. Exam formats are gonna make you fail. A t/false questions will pull down your grade. Defining words will also hurt your grade. He doesn't give considerations on wrong answers( 1 digit wrong means everything is wrong)
Great Professor! He explains topics slowly and very clearly. He is also a very fair grader. Be prepared the amount of HW he assigns. At least 30 problems of varying difficulty, resulting in you having to spend at least 2 hours on them, with that time increasing as the course gets more difficult. He will though take time to explain any and ever ques
You will learn from him if you pay attention. Gives web assign homework which is kind of annoying. Homework is kind of long. Some of his tests are difficult. You will probably have to apply yourself quite a bit. Its not easy.
He's an extremely harsh grader, tests what would get you a C-B with others will get you an F-D with him. Teaches calculus well, linear algebra not so much, tends to rush through material. Assigns a ton of homework (I'm talking like 15-30 web assign problems). Unless you know for a fact you can do most of the problems 100% right don't take him.
His class is pretty much him reading the textbook and just writing it on the blackboard. No interaction whatsoever. Doesn't curve. If you want to get an A, better teach it yourself. Tests are right from the homeworks, so do them!
This is Calculus 2 for engineering & computer science student, don't take it lightly. His lectures are clear. Main source of learning, however, is the homework. There doesn't seem to be any curves because many students get grades in the 90s. His exams are super fair. He requires memorization of all formulas. No cheat sheets like other professors...
Wonderful professor. Very passionate about the subject and he insists on going over problems to ensure clarity of content. Goes quickly as there is a great deal of material to cover, but willing to stay after class to help or elucidate anything that is unclear.
Everyone says he is a tough grader but I don't think so. I had bad grades on my first two exams, because I didn't do the work. But after I studied for three weeks for the final, the exam seemed easy. I passed with a B-. He grades fairly. If you are looking to pass the class without putting in the work then you will not pass!
Really, really great math teacher. One of the best I have ever encountered. Fully breaks down concepts and has no problem with providing multiple examples. Made an intimidating subject easy to digest. Pleasant demeanor. Straight forward grader, very fair. Wish he taught Pre-Calculus as well.
An amazing professor. Had him for Math 201 and I can say without a doubt that he is one of the best math instructors I have ever encountered. Gives clear, cohesive lectures, and has an amazing personality. Exams are straightforward as long as you do the HW. Give tons of extra credit too. Wonderful person and an even better professor.
One of the best professor in math departmemt, goes over everything step by step. Exams are atraight forward, do the hw and you will be fine.
Exams are hard. No review sheet. HW's are very long and time consuming. Things taught in class simple but hws and tests are way beyond that. Only has 7 questions in the test but he says to study all the hw questions as review for the exam which is about 150 questions. Lectures are easy to understand but tests much more harder.
going to class everyday is not going to help you to pass. must study at home and do all the homework because he's a tough grades when it comes to exam. if you make one mistake he will take off half points. does not review for the exam and class lecture is nothing like the exam he gives. exams are much harder. stay away, take anyone else but him
Nice guy but not the greatest teacher. Homeworks count as a test but his other two tests are very hard. Wasnt ready for the final because we didnt have a great review. Woudlnt recommend taking
Good professor but tough grader. Homework counts as an exam but 2 other in class tests and a final which are much more harder. I wouldn't recommend him, Unless you're really good at math. Final is cumulative.
Overall This class is pretty hard. But if you come to class and pay attention. Its doable. This professor might be the best in QC for math and very helpful.
Only recommend if you're a math major, he is very confusing. He starts off clear and then goes into like a mathematician learning. You have to really love Math to be on your game, homework takes hours not to mention the online assignments cost about $100.
tough grader. only take him if you're good in math. gives a lot of hw, about 4-5 hours a week. very time consuming. tests are very. no review sheet. i don't recommend him.
Don't take him. Lectures are very vague, hw are time consuming like we have no other classes to take, it's about 10 hours long. Never reviews for exam. This prof made me feel like I'm stupid. Toughest grader ever. Don't take him, STAY AWAY...
Don't take him. Lectures are very vague, hw are time consuming like we have no other classes to take, it's about 10 hours long. Never reviews for exam. This prof made me feel like I'm stupid.
it really depends on if you do the homework and then ask questions about it in class because his exams are very similar to the homework. The textbook is in the math tutoring lab so just take pictures of that instead of spending 200+ on it. Try to go to class. He's not out to get anyone but he has no sympathy for people who get single digit grades
Very vague lectures be prepared to teach yourself
his method of teaching makes it really hard for students to learn(he expects you to know calc inside and out prior) He goes way too fast and just skims over topics while expecting students to know it throughly for exams. At the end of the day you're teaching yourself calc I don't suggest taking him unless your looking for a way to stress urself out
Dr. Don is a good professor. Teaches the class AP style. Teaches simple concepts in lectures, but gives more detailed textbook-style problems in the hw assignments. Try and read the boom to understand the lectures before doing the hw
Extremely difficult and vague. You will stress yourself out.
Lectures are quite simple and are based on basic concepts, but gives textbook-style hw questions which are more detailed than the lectures. Exams are hw-based. Final is departmental, and is even harder than the hw and his exams.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. It is almost pointless going to lectures he doesn't review and barely teaches anything. Whatever nonsense he does teach however, isn't even on the test. STAY AWAY from this professor unless your are looking to self teach yourself!
The class is very difficult if you are not naturally good at math. Expect to spend at least 5 hours to do the hw and even more to study for tests. He is a fair grader and gives plenty of partial credit. The final exam is the hardest question from every topic so don't expect it to save your grade.
Make sure you understand what concepts and distributions to use when. His exams are clear and to the point, 7-8 questions. Gives an extra credit problem to do at home for each exam. Curved the first test because most of the class failed the test. Doing the homework will really help as the test questions mimic the homework.
The stuff I learned from him is at a mathematician level. Never again will I take him. Don't take him unless you wana stress yourself out!!!
So don't take him unless you're a math whiz and unless your looking to be a math major!!!
Very hard class teaches in a way most students don't understand. Don't take this unless you're planning becoming a math major. He doesn't go over topics in class just does one problem and moves on.
A great professor overall. He's gives tough webassign homework, which sounds bad, but is helpful since his exams are definitely a lot easier than the homework. He gives 2 exams as opposed to 3 but counts your webassign grade as a third exam mark. He also curves the two exams he gives, but not the final. He goes fast in lecture but will gladly help.
Bad perfessor I ever had in my life. Really bad perfessor. A lot HW,hard test. I do every single HW, ask every single question. Study every 10hours a week and 8 hours before every exam. still getting bad grade from this class. The grade that will end you up in probation. If there was no class open just wait for next semester, take him means waste.
May be a little fast during his lectures, but he is definitely willing to go over if asked. He gave 2 in class exams that ended up getting curved. Homework assignments on webassign are assigned a week before the due date & definitely takes a long time to do if you leave it up to the last minute. His class is manageable but effort is required!
Sucks to have to pay for WebAssign, but it was actually pretty useful for preparing for tests. HW counts towards your grade, which helped raise my average. Tests were what you'd expect if you did the HW. Lectures were decent. Final was pretty rough, but it was departmental.
Don't even wants to write stuff about him. The only good thing I can point it out from him is that he is not a good teacher.
Once I went to his office for questions, I saw him was writing out the stuff on ratemyfrofessors web. This is real happened to him, he should feels shameless about him self as a PROFESSOR. Student work hard to pass class, but in his class this will never gonna happen, bc he control everything from you.
If you thing you are smart than him, then he will make fun of you in front of all students in the class. Once my classmates show him self up by tells him how to do the question, then he tells him to shut up. I was like "WHAT". You are the professor you not suppose to say the thing like that. a lot HW, test are hard, you won't pass by doing all HW.
Teaches mathematician-style content, and HW consists of many time-consuming problems. Also, the final is cumulative, departmental, and asks the hardest questions from every topic. Stay away. You will be totally lost and burned out!
Just don't take him, try to pull your GPA down. he love people to drop the class. when people drop the class, he was so happy about it. bc he could save so much time for the less paper work.
Eugene Don is a professor I suggest no one to take. He makes his own tests extremely hard, which contains a multitude of topics that he has so called "taught". He doesn't really teach anything and doesn't try to help the students. In fact he has a very condescending attitude to students who try to offer their input during lectures. Save your self!
I have a 4.0 GPA. I am a Mathematics major. It's just my thing and I get A's in all of my Math classes. That being said, looking back at when I took this guy, he is absolutely horrible. If you want to fail or work a ridiculous amount of hours a week for a C take him. He loves to play "who is smarter" with the class. Really not cute.
love his class, he is very clear and lots of homework. But exams are easier than homework. Take good notes you will be fine. He gives review sheets which are very helpful. You need to take some time to do a good review. And also he gives curve!!
Pop quiz , this is the worse thing can happens in this class. Don't worry, you will be fine with getting D in this class ez.
His lectures are very clear, but the exams are like nightmares man. He purposely gives out confusing questions that you never see in your class. Do yourself a favor and take someone else for this class if you really want a good grade.
Go to his lectures as he occasionally deviates from the content or methods presented in the textbook. He assigns homework each class, which he never checks, but is crucial to understanding the material taught in the class and your overall performance in his exams. He does not give curves for his exams, though.
best professor I've ever had
Linear isn't easy. Do all of the homework, you'll need to to get the material down. The exams are reasonable, not easy not crazy difficult. He goes over every theorem you need in class and always asks everyone if they need clarification on any HW. He also provides simpler methods when the book goes complex for no reason. All around great guy.
If you can't afford to pay $100 for doing your homework online (webassign) take another professor. I wish I had known this before choosing to take this professor.
Wants us to follow his thought process and figure out what we don't understand about it. Unable to understand and explain where I was making mistakes. Unable to see from my perspective. I think he might be intellectually gifted but emotionally stunted. As a teacher the goal is to improve the students, not prove to them how smart you are.
Professor Don was my first math professor at QC. I struggled a lot and had difficulty with the course material bc of a weak math backgrnd. But I managed to pass and Im thankful there was no sugar coating from Prof. Don. His course is very straightforward. The math is hard. But I was first inspired by the concept of a limit in his course!
Do not recommend!
Eugene Don is an excellent professor. I will take his class again, I guess the only thing you need to do is do all the homeworks and youll be alright.
This professor is one of the hardest at Queens College. Make sure to get over a 90 ON EACH exam if you want to pass with a good grade(A- or A). I felt like this class was unfair in comparison to other math 152 classes. In other classes, students studied less and performed better. The professor made the class seem way harder than it should have been
he is a very good professor. you just have to put a lot of work into it. explains the material very well. if you ask questions he will answer you.
He walks students through problems and provides a lot of examples. However, his textbook homework is incredibly heavy, and takes hours to complete (good for practice tho). The course itself is difficult, but exams are straightforward and basically tests what you've been studying in class.
All he does is goes over whatever his notes are and think students will understand the problem. He gives lots of homework on webassign. You have to study alot for his exam. In the beginning of the semester there were roughly 20 students. After the 2nd exam there were only 4 left in the class.
The worst math prof. He does not teach you well. Mad homework. He really gives no extra credit and does not care about his students. He does not know how to teach.
A lot of people give him a hard time due to the difficulty of the subject, but I believe if you pay attention to what he shows and ask questions when needed and have a decent base level of HS knowledge you should be okay. Also remember he can be technical when grading so don't forget in or cm^2 or whatever it may be he will deduct points on exams.
He is awesome! everything I learned i so clearly.Fully understand the principle behind differentiation. But be prepared, every week we will have 20-40questions
Before you take him, 1. He gives a lot of homework each week in WebAssign ($80 paid website) 2. He doesn't curve any grade. Absolute 0 curve. 3. He gives 3 midterms, and 1 final. 4. He responds to emails pretty quick. 5. He isn't beginner friendly. (He skips steps when he explains) 6. Exams are way-way harder than hws or classwork.
He can't teach even tho he's smart. He isn't a bad person, very kind actually, but discourages students often. Only 3 exams, but a lot of hw, textbook is expensive too. Lectures are useless, bc he doesn't explain why you do something, he just writes it down and expects everyone go from there. Youtube will save you if you actually want to learn.
Prof. Don teaches the topics in the course well and has very clear expectations towards showing work. I got a question half wrong for not using the right rule even tho I got the right answer, which sucked. My final was consistent with past finals, and he did do a review. Def do the homework, it's only about 25 problems but super helpful.
He knows how to teach, but he doesn't pay attention to students and if they understand
He's a very nice person, but his class is difficult and he didn't make any effort to make sure we understood the material. It just boiled down to doing the 80$ homework, and more often than not the homework doesn't explain it well. You're gonna need a lot of self-study.
I am puzzled by the positive reviews. This was the worst professor I've had. He merely read from his notes and didn't teach us how to approach problems. This class is crucial for me, and I haven't learned anything directly from him. All my learning has come from online resources like ChatGPT. Extremely disappointing.
Prof. Don has a clear teaching style. The homework is helpful, though grading can be strict. Definitely do the work - unstuck ai is a great study aid alongside the textbook.
