His class is very hard. If you can take Kopke. I mean Dr. Fenster is boring and his tests are hella hard. The top score on the last test was a 78% and he didn't do anything about it. His teaching is unclear too!
Wow is all I have to say this teacher has no sympahty for any student and you can work your ass off ane don't expect to get an A or B.
he's the strangest teacher i've ever had.
One of the best instructor's I've ever had!!
I enjoy this instructor so much, I took two of his classes with a B both times. He's hard, but he makes you learn. I remember more from his classes than any other instructor. If you are lookin for the easy way out, take someone else. But if you are looking for a *quality* education, this is it.
The worst pofessor I have ever had. He can not teach at all.
Quit your whining, you pansies. A high grade of 78%? The question isn't what he will do about it, but what are you going to do about it?
The rudest teacher at Longview!
Great Proffessor! A little on the tough side, but well worth it!
Possesser of vast knowledge and able to explain it well. I agree that people say's he's hard but who would not be in a hard class.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. He fails to explain things thouroughly and when you ask a question he fails to answer it well. He is also very difficult to understand because of his accent. I would not recommend taking his nutrition class... YIKES! 8-(
What a little jerk. The rudest person I ever met. I wanted to sock him, but I just decided to drop. I don't need to pay my money to be treated like crap.
presumes you are working on your second Ph.D, still is not over being picked on in high school. eugene fenster is latin for little weasel. way too much information per exam

Very Hard class, and on top of that he is a hard teacher, but a very good one. He is kind of a smart ass, but I like that. Take notes and study hard, and do your microtheme. That is 30 %of your semester grade. If you don't do that well on the tests, but you do a good job on your microtheme then you will be alright.
this class SUCKED... it was very hard and he wasnt very helpful. the microtheme sucked too because he isnt clear on what he really wants in it... dont take it with him!
Fenster's a good teacher;as long as your not a dumbas* & keep quiet when he teaching, hes cool; His tests are off the notes, reading chaps wil help Don't miss any labs or be late on the microtheme and u'll do gr8; his tests are hard if you dont know the notes, so study/ we had dumbas*es in class that talked/he hates that &they failed!) good class
Fenster comes off as a hard ass, but after sticking with the class most all of us loved him!I think that he starts out mean, because he wants people to drop, but if you stay w it then he will like you. Some things to rem. are have your cell phone turned off!! and if you come in late, never walk in front of him and the class!!
If you have to take nutrition then would advise that you pick a different professor. Fenster's class was terrible. His test were awful and the notes that he gave you couldn't read his hand writing to get them down. He is a very rude professor and does not like it when you ask questions. I would stay away.
Fenster is good teacher, knows a lot but if you talk or cell goes off..Dont need to read the chapters if you get all the notes down; study over notes on test &get all the microtheme stuffin on time; also ask him if ur microtheme stuff is good step by step; even if u f tests, u can still get a b if udo good on microtheme and labs//hes a doctor!!!!!!

only teaches off of his power points, never anything interestion
I would stay away from him. the homework he gives are mini research projects that require citing sources and the microtheme, which is a big part of your grade, is a crap shoot. I worked my tail off on my microtheme and felt good when I turned it in and he gave me a D. if u want to know about dr fenster just ask the research librarians.
He is very smart, but it is very hard to get a good grade. His tests are impossible, and it is hard to get a good grade on the Microtheme. I do not recommend him at all.
I would not recommend ANYONE to take his class. If you feel like being treated as a kindergartener, humiliated for minor mistakes, and dealing with a cold-hearted teacher, then this class is for you. On a personal level, this teacher can be okay, however, if it comes to classroom material...watch out!!! He is on a power trip and on a rampage!
The tests are hard. He's a stickler on insignificant things. This was the lowest grade I've ever gotten and I didn't learn much of anything.
Follow instructions to the letter regarding the microtheme and you will get a high A. You will leave the class feeling like you accomplished something, especially since we had a 60% attrition rate for people not keeping up. Teacher is one of the few PHD's on the campus and performs as such.
Fenster is a nice guy. He is very intelligent, but he will be the first one to tell you that. Even if what he is saying isn't funny or witty or of the slightest intelligence at all, here's a little advice: smile, say something making him feel like he's smart and that you like him, because if you can get him to like you, you can pass the class. if h
Terrible teacher. I dropped the class the LAST DAY anyone could. i was actually walking to his class, when i saw the sign in the campus center that that day was the last day to drop, and i did with out hesitation. he might promise a good grade as long as you try, but he lies. even my friends who stayed in, FAILED. two simple words..napoleon complex
Not a class for flaky students. He states the rules the first day, and sticks to them. Not an "easy A." However, if you pay attention to what he says, & STUDY, you'll do fine. He's a cynical guy, but he will joke w/ you, and help you when you ask. He also dropped the lowest test & lab scores to help grades. W.I. paper is easy if you don't slack.
He was the worst teacher i have ever had. Very rude.He acts like he knows everything and that if you dont you are stupid. Tests are extremeley hard.
He tells you the rules on the first day - he's strict and expects you to do the work, but he's fair and funny. He drops your lowest test score, and answers all questions (I even called him). I learned alot and enjoyed the class - and I HATE science!
One of the best teachers I have ever had! I got all C's or D's on the tests but A's and B's on the homework. But an A on the semester project! I finished with a high B! I had tons of fun! He makes jokes everyday and is very easy to talk to about ANYTHING! Learned a lot!
Terrible teacher mainly because of a total lack of clarity as to what will be on the test. Even asking what will be on there results in very misleading answers. Syllabus is a disaster, readings are scattered all over the book, supposedly organized by chapter and subject but in reality, not corresponding whatsoever. Lectures are fairly worthless.
Horrible class, got the lowest grade i've ever had in highschool and/or college, would not take him again. He makes you feel stupid and yells at you for the little things that don't matter.
1st, i will say he is nice. BUT...sooo confusing! especially his diet analysis! he says he wants one thing then wants the other...i took over two notebooks full of notes and still barely passed. the only test i got a "good" grade on was the final because we could use our notes and book, otherwise his test were soo hard! dont recommend for nutrition
Tough class, but if you take good notes and learn them, the tests aren't that hard. He comes off as rude at first, but if you get to know him, he really is a nice guy that will help you out if he knows you are putting in the effort. If you are able to follow directions and you put effort into the diet analysis you'll do fine in the class.
I had Fenster for 2 different classes. He is an awesome teacher for biology. He made that class enjoyable and fun, he would help with anything. He was completely different for Nutrition! He is a health nut and if you aren't, you're made to feel like crap. Very strict in that class and the diet analysis was impossible!!!
Do not take him. He is unhelpful and sarcastic when you ask questions. Exams are difficult. They are only based on lectures, but the lectures are often unclear. He uses big words to explain big concepts, making them even more confusing. If you have to take him, make sure you go to EVERY lecture, since that is what the exams are based off of.
Do not take if biology isn't something your good at
It is a hard to understand him during lectures/note taking. His tests are very difficult.Do not take this class if biology is not something you're good at. He is not very helpful, if you ask him for help, he will tell you to ask another classmate. He can be rude.
Make sure when you pick your topic for the microtheme that you research it first to see if you can find alot of information on the topic beforehand..my topic was very difficult to research, and he wouldn't let me change it. I found 5 resources, but only 3 were acceptable to him, and when I turned in my microtheme, he rejected it entirely.
He is a great teacher. He makes the information very interesting and easy to remember. If you need help or have questions he is always there to help. When the microtheme is passed out get started on it, DONT WAIT!! Make sure to get each source approved before the due date to make sure you get all of your points. GREAT TEACHER!!
I had Dr. Fenster Spring '09. I highly recommend Dr. Fenster as your biology professor. If you need to take an intensive writing class, take Bio 101 Writing Intensive! He checks your paper several times to edit before the final copy is due. It is impossible to fail your microtheme! Biology labs are awesome with Dr. Fenster!
Print off his lecture guides use them to take notes you will pass each quiz everytime easily, TAke the whole time on your diet analysis you will do fine. Overall easy if you print off the lecture guides
Don't take this class. He is the worst teacher that I have seen. Sometimes he doesn't know what he talks about.
If you cannot handle this professor then you will fail at the University level. He is tough but if you get to know him and ask educated and well developed questions he will help you. Great professor to have, however remember that you earn your grade. He does not play favorites when it comes to grading.
do not take him! its his way or the highway, no matter what the book says. he sets you up for failure- by far worst teacher i've had!!
Dr. Fenster is the worst professor I have ever had! He is extremely unclear on the semester project and its almost like he wants everyone to fail! All of his quizzes are unannouced and his grading scale is WHACK! RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN. You have been warned!
This was my first college class and man was it a nightmare! i don't know if it was because i wasn't prepared to work as hard of he is unclear but i had a hard time in his class. He can be nice at times but this by no means will be an easy A. High school failed me and did not prepare me for this at all.
Tough tough class. I learned a lot in this class but it is very hard. Make sure you take GREAT notes during class because all of his quizzes are based off of the lectures. All quizzes are unannounced and make up most of the grade for the class. So make sure you know the material otherwise you most likely won't pass the class.
Very strict and grades very hard. His quizzes are unannounced and go over ever lecture. I had to record every single lecture and re listen to it. With the effort I put into this course I was not satisfied with my end result. Avoid this teacher!!!
Awful! I knew the material well and got a's on the multiple choice portion of the tests but received low f's on the essay portion because I didn't put answers in his terms. On the genetics test, he said that I got both answers correct but received a 0/10 on one and a 5/10 on the other because of the way I showed my work. Does not curve or find any fault in his methods even when the highest grade on a test is a C. The only reason he has a job is because comm. colleges have low standards for teach
Fenster is a hard teacher--but if you put in the effort, he will give you the grade. I got an A. Has a high drop rate, but once you make it past that, he is willing to help. Go to his office, ask questions, STUDY and you will get an A.
Take good notes and study them. The quizzes are based on these and they are preparing you for the final. One pop quiz/week stopped being a surprise after the 1st week. Put the time and effort into your diet analysis as this is a major part of your grade and it shows him what you have learned. He is very helpful if you ask questions/participate.
Hardest teacher ever had in life. Do not take this teacher. Only 2 people that got A's had real strong backgrounds in Bio. and Chem. He said on first day of class, if you put in the work, you'll get the grade. I studied for hours and hours every night, did every thing he told me too and only got a B. I have a 3.7 GPA and a BA in English. Beware!!!
In order to do well in this class, you have to be a super fast test taker. Everyone that got A's in the class were science nerds. They just showed up an got good grades. The people who studied their butt off got C's and D's. You should never take this class unless you get your PHD in Biology first. Professor Fenster is a bully.
Terrible teacher. Doesn't care about the students. He thinks its funny that half of his students drop his class or fail. He gives out ten times more information than should be taught in a 3 unit course. Impossible to learn everything. He talks way above everyone and acts like your stupid if you don't know what he's talking about. Worst teacher ever
First class out of High School. I'm reconsidering going back to college. Studied real hard and barely got a D. I hope this is not what I have to look forward to for next 4 years. Super duper hard hard Teacher. Diet analysis was impossible. 15 Quizes. Teacher tells you to ask other students when you go to him for help. Final exam nightmare!!!
I disagree with most of the comments on here. Dr Fenster was one of the best professors I've ever had. I learned a lot in his class. I received an A. the only reason anyone should have had any trouble is if they didn't show up to class or study at all.
One of the best Professors I've ever had. He does have high expectations, but was very helpful when I had questions. I was actually surprised to see what some other people wrote. All I can say is if you take him be prepared to study and show up to class. I got an A and unlike what other people said I am far from a science nerd
Dr.Fenster was a genius, he was also extremely helpful as long as you asked. If you listen and take notes you'll be fine. he teaches well and definitely my favorite teacher ever.
This professor is so bad. if you are not a science major than you will not do good in this class. When asking him for help he has you talk to other students than "know what they are doing", didn't like this. Dr. Fenster is a mean professor and overall makes fun of students. Exams are impossible and doesnt explain the work. Don't take this class.
This course is what a college course should be. You are challenged, and you learn. You have to apply yourself, but if you do there is no reason you should not pass. (college isn't about doing nothing and getting an A, it's about actually learning) The prof is passionate about his work, knows what he is talking about, and is funny. Great lectures!
During class, Dr. Fenster ridiculed students with beliefs other than his own. If you asked him for help on an assignment or to explain it more thoroughly, he would tell you to ask another student or answer your question with a question. His way of teaching seems more fit for students who have already taken some biology courses.
Bad professor. He was rude and mean. He doesn't clarify or answer your questions directly. quizzes were straight from lectures; the final was from the quizzes. Must be a fast note-taker!I would not recommend him at all. I should have listened to the reviews!
I'm a retired college professor and I took nutrition with Dr. Fenster to further my knowledge and improve my diet. I'm am very disappointed that a colleague with a PHD is teaching in this manner. Dr. Fenster is unclear about everything and obviously is teaching this course only for the paycheck. I do not suggest anyone should ever take his class.
Dr. Fenster is the worst professor I have had at Longview yet. He clearly hates his job and is only there to get paid. He does not teach well, and will make you feel like an idiot for asking a question. Do not take this class!
I received a D in this class Spring 2014. However, it was on my attendance. Dr. Fenster actually knows what he is talking about and will help you if you schedule an appointment with him after class. He has a different type of humor and I think that rubs off on sensitive people the wrong way but heS actually a great guy. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had. I'm an A or B student and right now I have an F in his class. After each lecture, you'll come out with at least 6 front-to-back pages of notes. If you need help, he says that's what your classmates are for. Ridiculously hard tests. Diet anaylsis is impossible to do "the right way." DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
He was a very tough teacher to learn from. I showed up everyday, took extensive notes, & met with him after class & still barely passed. The entire course was note taking & tests. If I asked him for help, he would tell me to find another student to ask. I would not recommend taking this class without prior biology knowledge. Buy the Lab Manual.
This class has the most confusing structure for lecture and lab. In the labs he would give you answers without giving explanations. He tries to half fast the material for labs leaving you clueless. If you try to understand the materials in the lab manual it is dysfunctional. I recollect him giving some students answers to quizzes. I complained...
Fenster isn't much of a teacher, he literally just reads the slide show. Very disappointed in the course, I had a lot of interest. He will help if you ask, he's approachable and funny. Didn't learn much at all. Very boring lectures. Skipped class a lot and got a good grade, but I have a background in the subject.
His sense of humor isn't for everybody, he sometimes steps on toes. Don't take him too seriously when he does. Overall, a really nice guy. He will give you feedback, but you have to ask for it. He also lets you know exactly what you need to do in order to improve your grade. Tests are 100% lecture based. Take good notes and record if you can.
He's funny, but he's not good. He's not helpful and doesn't seem to care about his students. Classes consist of taking notes nonstop. His class is not a recommended way to get science credits.
Comments and jokes come off rude and offensive. Not very specific about directions. Makes students feel inferior
I literally asked for help on quite a few assignments and he told me I was doing it all right and then gave me a 50 on the assignment. He doesn't really know what he's doing. Also, be prepared to fail every test.
He's very helpful! I went to his office and he explained exactly what I did wrong. He may come off as rude, but I say deal with it! Take the sometimes funny/unfunny jokes! I'd take him again if I could, and its sad that I could only take him once.
WORST I've ever experienced. Get ready to fail. absolutely no structure. he is extremely offensive and recommended alcohol daily. he is rude, says off things like "brain tumors are fun". He has 4 tests and 4 diet analysis, waste of money for the program to fail. Does not use blackboard. Notes are ALL over the place. most confusing class bc of him.
He makes you buy this program for $90 that you use once and then you fail it because his instructions are not clear. I'm having to take it online bc I'm failing. He assumes you know exactly what he's talking about all the time, never any definitions just risk factors of poor nutrition and thats never on the test. you have no idea what to review for
Kept lecture interesting with his jokes. Doesn't use an online gradebook. Didnt have a set schedule and his lecture notes were VERY unorganized with unnecessary statistics. Doesn't let you record lectures. Only have 3 exams and 1 project in the gradebook and he grades those VERY harshly. Went to class every day and study sessions and got a D.
He can be a difficult teacher, but not needlessly so. The main issues with failuses were people who didn't want to work. This is college, not elementary school. If you ask him for help and express you are struggling, he WILL help you. He gets to know all of his students and gives them all equal attention. If you meet him halfway, he's great.
You can study notes and read book until you are blue in the face, you'll fail anyway. The only way you will pass this class is if you have a background in this subject. Fenster can be very rude and disrespectful. He will single you out in attempt to embarrass and intimidate you. He doesn't answer any questions and will almost always redirect you.
He is a difficult teacher at times, but he is helpful as long as you are willing to put in the work and ask for help when you need it. He is not cruel. He engages his class well during his lessons and makes himself readily available should you need the help. He is also very understanding of outside factors causing in class difficulties.
