hated the teacher, doesn't answer questions, even if you go to office hours, not helpful and arrogant
A little arrogant, other than that OK. Lecture notes on web a plus.
The worst professor I have ever had! Arrogant and very unhelpful. Good luck knowing what he expects
Is arrogant towards students. Notes that he posts are very helpful for class lectures, but tests do not really reflect content of notes and book.
Hard subject, lots of homework, boring class but you have to go. No one got above 85% on all 4 tests
Hard teacher,does not care,...very demanding,unclear,...
He's sole purpose in this class is to lower the class average. He does not give any relevant or useful feedback. Requires HW be handed in before he even lectures on the material; tough-luck if you can't understand a concept using the text alone.
boring, but a very easy class
Gene Fliedner was the man. His class was good, he expects alot but you learn alot. These other people don't know what they're talking about.
I struggled in this class but I agree that he expects alot out of his students but is fair. He is not flexible at all in grading but his expectations are laid out in black & white.
this class is hard but he manages to keep the class average at a 78 by his curve. He is not that bad of a guy
hardest of all teachers for this class. Tries to deceive students with quizzes and homework for grade. Works around questions most of the time to avoid ansewring them. He is an ok professor, but i would reccomend taking another one
Doesn't seem very confident in himself. Reads notes line by line to you and when the class strays from notes, he stutters a little and rejects all arguments to the contrary (even though he states he's open to different views). Not the worst prof,
Very hard class. Tests are very difficult and you'll need to study EARLY for them. Will not bend at all. Worst aspect is that the homework is due before the lecture on the topic is covered and IS GRADED! If you don't understand the reading too bad.
His classes could be more fun. Exams are a pain, but do the practise quizes from text, you should be fine them.
He is one of the worst teachers I've had. Speaks too quickly and it is hard to follow his lectures. Tests are difficult; need to read your chapters and do the assigned problems for every class or else you will get lost. He tries to make the class fun.
This Guy does not care about anyone and towards the end of the class he wants to screw your grade..beware of this class I DONT RECOMMEND him
Knows his stuff, but difficult and demanding, gave more than 1/3 of class less than 3.0. Text is clear, prof tends to confuse. He is ALWAYS right, even when proven wrong. Lots of work, but will learn a lot. Take another prof if possible.
Such a Dork! He likes to flunk the students. Very hard exams. He lectures untill 9:59PM. Don't take him if you have a chance. Those of who you are taking him..... Good Luck!
Very Hard Class. Pop Quizzes and Homework. Very Unclear notes and tricky test questions. Does the all of the above and none of the above garbage. Thinks a 77% is good enough not to have a curve.
Difficult class with pop quizzes and homework assignments so plan to be there all the time. Teach yourself the subject and then get graded for what you learned on your own. Always thinks he is right. Thinks that a 70% average is good enough for no curve.
Just all around poor professor. Didn't know anything about the simulation program that we had to use, and be graded on. Another professor that has never actually worked in the profession that he teaches about!
LOOOOOOOOOOSER
Tough course. His lectures are long and boring. Lecture notes are confusing. He talks way to fast and sounds exactly like Bill O'Reilly. Quizes are not that difficult if u pay attention, some are open note and some are take home. Exams are tough, learn numerical problems and youll do ok.
don't read the book, because he doesn't use it. the muplitle choices are weird. I don't know what the hell he means. he likes his bad reputation. His lectures last forever. never gives a clear answer to a question. he gets a kick when students drop the class. a55hole.
This class was about as easy as it gets with all the slackers in my class. Go to class, print the notes and pay attention and you will easily get a 3.0 or higher. Many people that complain missed 2 of the 5 quizzes. There's no doubt that Eugene knows the material and is excited about it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!
download his notes, do the reading, do the homework, pay attention, participate, and you'll do well. This is not a tough class.
His voice is annoying. Not a hard professor, but somehow I never did good on the exams even when I studied hard? And we never got them back to see what we got wrong? Class test avg was about 60, but he curves Don't show up late for class, it pisses him off. DO ALL THE QUIZZES THEY HELP YOU'RE GRADE!
Take this class in the short semester if you can. Don't drag this crap out, it sucks. This teacher sucks! He did not help our class when he taught it in the Spring few yrs. back. He has no real experience in the field he says. Great another one of those.
If you show up to class, take notes, and do the homework, you will do fine. Granted the course is difficult, but if he doesn't like the average, he will curve it. Normally, the class average is in the 60s. He doesn't pass back the tests, so go to his office and he will help go over it.
Class is very difficult and packed with info. He is completely obnoxious and gets so excited when he talks his face turns red and he loses his voice. doing hw probs is required. test are very difficult (45% class average). curves in the end. drops 1 lowest hw OR quiz. 3 exams plus final.
Good general class, a lot of material was covered, but if you keep up on the reading, pay attention and do the problems, you'll do fine.
simply the best
Firm teacher with no freebee's given
The class itself is hard..Worst Class I've ever taken..He get's too excited when he lectures. When he lectures he hates if someone interrupts him. His exams are extremely hard. Plus 5 quizzes, some of them take home. Teacher sucks!
People complain about how difficult he is, but also never show up to class. 4 quizzes (drops the lowest), and 3 multiple choice exams. He allows you to have a cheat sheet during exams. I never bought a book and played FreeCell during class and got a 4.0. He's acually a fairly nice guy, take him if you actually go to your classes.
Professional, clear, enthusiastic, concise, very experienced, speaks very professionally. Challenges the individual, but if you do the work and take the course serious (like you should since you are paying for it) you will do very well. Everyone that works in any type of manufacturing industry shoudl take this course with him,
Difficult material, but Prof. Fliedner is clear and helpful. SimProject (project management simulation) is a time pit. The amount of effort put into it would be better spent on the course material. If you take this class, be prepared to work.
exams are impossible, nice teacher in class but impossible for anyone to pass with a 4 or anything close to that.
Class is not easy. First test wasn't that bad, but tests got harder as the semester went on. Fliender does curve and is willing to help if asked. My advise is to really know the formulas and how to use them w/problems more difficult than homework for the 2nd and 3rd tests and know Fliedner's notes and concepts (book and his notes) VERY VERY well.
Worst class/grade I had in the MBA program. He is an intense guy who really gets into his lectures.
Totally unpredictable. His notes are very confusing and are not relevant for the examinations.
Arrogant, obnoxious, red-faced, pompous prof who is so full of himself he tells you that your opinion doesn't matter in class! 1/2 the material he covers is over 20-30 years old and irrelevant. Worse yet, he is very picky even on things that shouldn't matter. Hated the class & hated listening to a near 60yr old go gaga over his two 2 yr old boys
GREAT prof! Knows material & how it relates to real world. Makes it interesting. Learned more than I expected & it has helped me at work. Notes are easy to follow. Nice to hear about a dad who loves his kids. Enjoyed that a lot. Look forward to taking another class from this prof as it will probably help me even more at work.
Do not take this class with this professor. Very mean person.
toughteacher. knows the material well. not the horrible person everyone says he is but he's VERY strict. gives 5 random quiz/hw. why random? just tell us what you want and we'll do it. don't play games. gives partial credit in exams but only if you meet up with him 1on1 to go over your exam. exam ave in 60s. 6/38 failed my clas, one A, the rest C's
Seems like a jerk at first, but he's actually pretty nice once you get used to him. This class is not nearly as hard as everyone says it is. Tests and quizzes are somewhat difficult but fair. He also curves the overall grades, so you don't have to do good, just better than everyone else. If you go to class and do the homework, you'll be fine.
Please find someone else to take this class with - he does not care about what you understand or don't understand. He is by far the worst professor I've met. I have done work, even though he never collects it, & the work that is required, and yet I still don't know where I stand in the class after I failed the midterm. GOOD LUCK!
This is the worst professor of my career at oakland university. You have to read every chapter and do the HW before you even get to the class that he lectures that material. Quizes dont even relate to the material, ppl say this about professors, but this one truely enjoys seeing students fail. I Hate Him. Everyone i know hated him. Dont do it!!!
Teacher does not seem to convey real world business experience outside of academia. Teacher should consider internship or leave of absence to apply and refine textbook knowledge. Teacher should make sure students have fair access to previous exams, instead of the hand full who get them from past students.
The lectures were very long, but informative. I liked his passion for the subject. I took a real hit on my GPA because his tests required a mastery of the subject. On the final, the class average was a 58%. I studied, perhaps I could've studied more, who knows. Thank god for the quizes and homework those totally helped me pass the class.
Really liked this teacher! Had to do hw and read the book to get a better understanding of the class. He really cares about students learning the subject and is very passionate about it. Tests weren't too bad (I thought), but class avg's weren't too great. He curves your grade. I really enjoyed this class.
Ties theoretical content to real world examples. Content is 100% relevant to professional seeking insight into PM techniques. This class is not intended to make you pass PMP. It obvious by negative feedback that many who gave low scores are unemployed undergrads who will get quite a shock from their 1st real world work experience.
Very little practical applications for the case analysis assigned. Teaches Program Management without any real experience. Lots of theory that could never be used in real applications. Reads directly from his slides. Very dry
He really is the WORST professor I have EVER had in my life. He does NOT care if you fail his course. Put students on the spot. His final was ridculous. The avg was a 57! There was material on there that he never went over. He LITERALLY makes an easy concept VERYYYYYY difficult to understand! DONTTT TAKE HIMMMMMMMM!!!!
Grading is very fair. Do your homework and you will be fine. Study a lot for the final cause it is very hard. I would recommend this teacher.
Good person..Really knows his stuff, BUT CANNOT TEACH it to students. Lectures are unclear, yet you will probably be quizzed in the same class. Nice guy at times, but is not flexible to students. if you take him be prepared to study your buns off.
He is VERY passionate about POM and a good speaker. However, be forewarned that good grades are hard to come by: pop quizes, random homework collected (only once for us), and very difficult exams. He will curve the final grades, but it's nothing special. Take him for the learning experience..but definitely NOT for an easy "high grade."
The class is difficult and he words his pop quizzes and exams so that you need to really think about the question and know your stuff. But, if you show him you are working hard and put forth the effort you will be rewarded. He will meet you halfway! I highly recommend him!!!!
?I really like confusing you, don?t I? He makes you write the tables out by hand while drawing what the software would have looked like on the overhead. The class that?s supposed to prepare managers of tomorrow is actually lacking to do that entirely in terms of technology. Class averages speak for themselves. Avoid if possible.
This is a tough class no matter who you take. Fliedner gives quizzes and homework assignments which force you to stay up on the material. His lectures are great, and he manages to keep it interesting. Concepts aren't difficult, there's just a lot of work involved. Highly recommend this teacher.
He is an acquired taste...I was nearly in tears by the end of the first class but by the end of the semester he was one of my favorite teachers. Be sure to participate in class and learn the concepts of the class, not just memorize stuff and you will be fine. He gives a pretty generous curve too.
Dr. Fliedner is a very good teacher. I enjoyed going to class and he has a lot of knowledge for POM. The class itself was challenging for me. I managed to pull through without the greatest grade but he is a very fair teacher. Make sure to stay on top of the course work. It is random when you get a quiz unless he hints it. He is very helpful -Nick
Strict, but you can get a good grade if you put in a fair amount of effort. Half the quizzes were take home, gives a curve, and allows a page of notes on test. Can come across as abrasive, but it seems to be more out of just having high expectations of students. Pretty funny guy and one of the best lecturers I've had. I think that's why I did well.
A great lecturer, I was convinced I wouldn't pass, but with enough discipline and drive you will do fine!
It's a hard class no matter who you take. Prof Fliedner is an awesome guy and pretty funny too. But, grade is only 2 exams and 5 quizzes. The quizzes are sometimes not even based on what he lectures. Exams are very hard. So theres no room to do bad on anything. I have a 3.6 GPA and I barely got a 2.0. Great guy though. One of the best lecturers.
This Professor's lectures are phenomenal. He knows how to crack a joke. He is very dedicated to his students (he taught to his student even though he was ill). The exams for this class are ruthless and unreasonable in accounting for material that is irrelvant to class. I was expecting at least a 3.7, but dropped to a 3.4 due to the final.
Please don't mistake difficult material with bad teaching! Professor Fliedner is a great professor and is really passionate about this subject. Most people aren't. This course covers A LOT of information, even he knows that, but if you're a business major you have to take it. So you might as well take it with somebody who loves the subject.
Tough class, good professor. You can't just go over the powerpoints. Do the homework, even though he most likely won't collect it, because he doesn't tend to cover the mathematical problems during lectures (other than reviewing it). Do your homework, go to class, and study for the exams and you should be fine. Curves class average to 78.
honestly best teacher ever! Take him! He made class so enjoyable! Come to class and take notes and you will do fine in the class.
Fliedner is a great professor. He has a reputation for being tough but it's a tough class no matter what. He goes through everything in great detail leaving no grey areas. He's an engaging lecturer and does his best to make long lectures less painful. Two exams. HW, not required. Collects HW/gives random quizzes 6x in semester. Drops lowest grade.
Wow what a very tough class for the subject matter at hand. I thought this would be an enjoyable learning experience but it was far from it. I was also planning to get a minor in POM but decided not to after taking it with him. Overall great guy but very tough exam questions that average a 57% class. Curves class to 78%
Fliedner is definitely not the best professor out there. He does a terrible job of explaining the information he goes over in class and over complicates things that are actually very simple. Tests are terrible and loaded with trick questions, and he starts off a sentence by talking but ends almost yelling. Weird. !!!MEET DEMAND WHEN DEMAND OCCURS!!
This class is required for all business majors at Oakland and is essentially an entry level class. I am an accounting major and have taken almost all of my 400 level accounting classes and this class was worst than them. The average on the first exam was 67% and the highest score was an 84%. The class average throughout the class was 72%-76%.
POM 343 is not an easy class by any means and Fliedner does not really make it any easier. A lot of homework and pop quizzes given. He goes the whole time of class so don't expect to be let out early ever. He is very considerate and always willing to offer help and extra office hours if you have questions for him
This class is super tough! The exams ruin you! He puts stupid things on the exams like "Who is considered the master of OM?" There are pop quizzes, he sometimes collects homework. There are 2 exams, and a total of 6 homework/quizzes - that's it. He's a quirky guy, very nice, but I wouldn't recommend him. Very low class average.
His exams always have an average of 65% or less, ALWAYS, isn't that a sign that he is the problem? I'm a good student and study like crazy yet I could barely get a C+ in the class. He doesn't help during office hours, just says "you can find the answer in the text", or he plays solitaire while you talk to him. Nice guy, but awful class and exams.
BEWARE-he gives a-lot of pop quizs if time permits on material he just lectured on! Even if you reach out to him and show you care about your grades, he still doesnt care. Midterm and FInal are the only exams and no matter how much u prepare youll still fail. Doesnt have study guides and is proud no one does well... Offers no extra credit either.
Detailed lectures, uses great examples, knowledgeable, engaging, but keeps you for the ENTIRE class time. Skip class and you won't pass! Passionate instructor.
He expects you to know the material before it is taught in class and assigns homework that was never collected. Six graded assignments that are either hw, pop quizes, or take home quizes. Very rude when you go to office hours. AVOID!!!
Dr. Fliedner is there for students that are actually trying in his class. He does not want to fail any students. His exams are tough, but he gives a generous curve to the exams and curves overall class. Participation can also add onto your grade in this class. Show up and do the work- you'll be fine. He's fair and a great person.
Doesn't require reading. His classes are mostly lecture based. Homework assignments are hard and he grades tough. The exams are very dense and based entirely on the lectures. If you have trouble with professors that move too quickly, dont take him. He is a decent man, but his class is way to hard for an intro/pre-req. Don't recommend.
No just don't take him.
Avoid at all costs!! One of the worst professors I have ever taken at OU. Tests are impossible since the class average never exceeded a 65%. He also got frustrated when a student didn't understand a concept in class. I am a straight A student and this class stressed me out beyond belief. If you want to remain sane... take a different professor
This class does not necessarily have mandatory attendance, but after finishing chapters in a lecture, there would be assessments. The material is difficult to follow and lectures are quite boring (IMO). Very difficult exams and quizzes. I've taken 80 credits at one college and 40 at Oakland... This is one of my toughest classes ever.
One of the best professors I've had. He's a great guy, very passionate about the subject, and genuinely cares about the success of his students. A lot of material is covered, with assessments given at the end of each chapter. Some sections can be difficult, but as long as you go to class, take notes, and study the PowerPoints, you should do well
Fliedner is by far the worst POM professor Oakland has. His teaching style is completely out of date. Black and white 15 bullet powerpoint slides, 100+ slides to study from, and literally any of it can show up on an exam. I took him for project management, something I do all the time at work, and he makes the content much harder than it actually is
Lectures are veeerrryyyy long and boring. His powerpoints contain paragraphs upon paragraphs. He's not bad but you have to listen and review the material in order to do well in his class, and with his lectures it's hard to do.
Class was online due to the pandemic. 3 exams and 6 assessments (quizzes) all open book open note. Exams are 2 hours and quizzes 30 minutes. Be sure to listen to his lectures and take notes since his questions can sometimes throw you for a loop. Lecture videos can drag and be boring I recommended spacing them out.
I had his class during the Winter, COVID semester. He uses Panopto for pre-recorded lectures. They can be long but you SHOULD watch them all. Quizzes and tests are easy if you take notes and listen to his lectures. The textbook is required but I did not use it. If you are looking for an interactive and *fun* professor, do not choose him.
Prof Fliedner is an enjoyable teacher to have. He cracks jokes and wants everyone to be involved. Sometimes class can be dry but you get through it. If you put in the effort he will make sure you pass the class. Reading the text isnt super necessary (if you go to class) but doing the homework is. Only grades for the class are 3 exams 6 quizzes
He's a good professor, but he lectures very quickly. He can go through a lesson within a day, sometimes two, and will always have a quiz following the end of the lecture which is sometimes on the same day. He really knows his material and is passionate about it. He cares about his students and is very accomodating to them. He also grades fairly.
Professor Fleidner is a great lecturer mostly powerpoint stuff but has more to say overall Grades are made up of 3 25Q exams and 6 10Q quizzes with the lowest quiz being dropped. He will go over everything in class so pay attention. Would take again and a great professor
Amazing guy, he really cares about his students. I wish his rating was higher. He lectures the whole time but tries to make jokes to lighten it up and he's pretty entertaining. He is very accessible after class, go have lunch with him and he will explain any questions. He does not want any of his students to fail, so please take him!
He really cares about the students. The lectures contained key information that is necessary for a career. The content was also very relevant for the exams. There is group cases for this class and if you're having issues with a group member he's right there to help fix it anonymously. I really appreciated his class, it taught me a lot. Also, show up.
Prof Fliedner is entertaining, but his classes can be fast-paced. Attend regularly, take good notes, and use resources like Unstuck AI to stay on top of the material. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the effort.
The lectures are long and get to be a little boring. He is really understanding and knows students have a life outside of the classroom. The group projects are case papers answer questions; the hard part about those are no one got a grade higher than a 90% so he grades hard on those.
This professor gives you three exams and five group case analyses that make up your final grade. The largest challenge in this class is his grading of the case studies. This affects most of your grade and makes it hard to do well. He is harsh and very critical. If you do not say exactly what he is thinking, you will not get full credit.
Please do not look at any of the negative comments about this professor. If you show up and put the effort in, you will easily get a good grade in this class. He is very passionate about what he teaches and so friendly and caring.
