Mr. Goss is a good lecurer teacher and a very fair grader. Tests are medium in hardness. He WILL keep you in class the entire time, but his lectures are interesting if you get into them. I loved this class. Grades easy on the Final paper.
The tests are really long and hard. Lots of reading and material to memorize. You'll be fine if you like politics but if not, it'll be hard. Not an easy A.
Simply hard!!! Sometime's he asks stupid questions for the test, so when u'r studying be sure to memorize even the tiniest thing he mentions during class!! Strongly encouraged to take good notes!!
he is a cool teacher to have for a subject that is very boring to many students out there. he tells you everything ahead of time and he lets you know of the changes. though he seems mean he is very nice and reasonable just don't be afraid to talk to him
Be ready to memorize the whole book!!!
Good guy. Likes his subject- all mult choice tests and one final paper. Not too difficult if have time to study and keep up with chapters. Class is usually entertaining and if willing to put in some effort, you'll do fine..can be intimidating at first.
This guy is great, you will want to actually take part inh this mans class. Hes easy going, even if he looks like a stiff. But he takes his job seriously thats what counts and he'll even go easy on night classes.
GOOD TEACHER
very bad teacher.
makes subject matter intresting, must keep up with all the reading and use the online tests that go w/ the books. the paper is hard to write. grades fair
Prof. Goss is VERY passionate about what he teaches and this is what makes the class interesting. The tests are hell, but IF you take all the notes from the power point and study them, you'll at least get a "C". That's what I did!
Goss has the appearance of a mean teacher, but he is actually very nice! He makes the subject interesting, altough it does require reading. Taking the online tests is recommended, and good notes should be taken during class. He's a tad bit superstitious and knocks on wood a lot. He's a sweet man.
His lectures can usually lead to his opinion. Most of the time they do. He never lets you out early.
very intelligent professor.dont let his looks fool you.might seem bossy but in reality he is somewhat easy going. also a funny guy: knocks on wood and makes proposals. READ THE BOOK!! and take lots of notes. 3 exams, 1 paper (took him during the summer).im a c student.if i passed it u can to. hehehe
He looks hard, but teaches you very good. Take good otes, read the books, and you'll do good. the bad side is that he talks a lot always giving his republican opinion and he never lets you out early. Overall if this is your major take him. this coming semester he's gone but will be back. Nice guy!!!
Not an easy A, but he makes lectures interesting. Read the book and take notes, and you'll be fine. Funny Guy.
He is an amazing teacher, he gives you what you pay for in college. He is a bit biased in politics, but he warns you that it is his OPINION. His class is harder than most, but very worth your while. I dont go to a lot of classes, but I didnt miss his, and enjoyed every one. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
Goss is a tough teacher. His test are very difficult. showed a few videos though. i would not recommend him to anyone unless you want to struggle for an A. Goss needs to shave his sideburns too, it just doesnt look right. I mean it seems like he is stuck in the past.those sideburns are not cool dude
One of the best teacher I have had. He is passionate and challenging. His test are difficult, but he teaches the subject well and you will definetly learn. He is also politically conservative with is a unique as it is refreshing. Take His Class!
Awesome teacher. His lectures are amazing and his powerpoints are very helpful. He is difficult though and bias when it comes to politics. But it always up to date, and answers any political questions. One of the best teachers to take, but will guarantee you: STRESS! Hard to recieve an "A".
This is one of the few classes that doesn't shrink. Even the kids who are failing come to class because he's interesting. His performance is flawless, although occasionally you'll catch him going off on a rampant that he took the class before (hiring people at the mint). His enthusiasm is contagious. Get started on the paper before the last week
Great overall. Good lectures. Good Tests. Not boring. Highly Recommended.
Took it two semester ago, and it was very interesting. Overall it was hard and you need to read the text and study alot to get an A. His lectures are the best part of class because he will always keep everyone capitvated. Does not speak in a monotone voice and is quite funny at times. Sadly he is bias and sways with the Republicans.
His classes are always entertaining because of the humor he injects into his lectures. This teacher definitely knows his stuff even if he does tend to lean to the right. Just read the material, pay attention to his power-points and praise USC football and you should do alright.
good indeed.
a good example teacher who can really teach.
One of my favorite teachers by far. He has a lot of energy and always makes things interesting. He is biased though, but he doesn't hold you to know anything based on that. If you do the reading and pay attention to the powerpoints you'll be fine.
After reading the comments on here i enlisted in the class, but i was extremely disappointed. His tests were way too meticulous considering the amount of notes he gave. He was a pretty nice guy, but an A is nearly impossible. If you can devote your entire semester to reading your 234223 pages of notes, then take the class! otherwise, dont.
Excellent Learning experience. Excellent Class! Not easy, but an unparrell learning experience. Pay attention to the textbook. Most of his test come from terms and reading. The lectures highlight what he feels is important. His leactures are well organized and he uses powerpoint so it is easy to take notes.
Great Class.
He doesn't curve the grades. I got a high B on all of my exams and I got a B in his class. You need to turn in a term paper at the end of the semester which should be pretty easy if you utilize his office hours and pick his brain on what he would like to read from your paper. He is a conservative so if you have a problem with that, dont take him.
A terrific teacher! I had little or no interest in Political Science prior to this class, and he made it not only interesting but fun. Read the book, take the notes He's awesome. I would take another pol sci class from him anytime.
He is a really good teacher if you have an understanding of politics. I honestly did not so I suffered in his class. He is not boring and he has discussions about current events which is always good to know. If you've taken a Polsc class before this is the class for you if you have a good understanding of Politics.
By far the best professor ive had in my college career. He isnt easy, but he is the best.
he was a interesting prof made class fun...very upbeat always trying to get the student's opinion etc..TESTS WERE HARD! it was 100 questions usually 60 were multiple choices..the rest true and false and that is where it hurts!! the true and false are really tricky where one part is true and the other part COULD be true. not an easy class DONT TAKE
his test are freakin hard as HELL!! he's a really good professor and very upbeat, but if you actually want to pass DON'T take the class, test were like 100 questions, and he didn't give a study guide. If you want a challenge then take him, if you want to pass...don't take him
Professor Goss is an exceptional teacher. He will never patronize a student who has a different political point of view. His power point notes are helpful for the tests. You should have no problem passing. I have taken 3 classes with him and have received 2 A's and 1 B (the B cause I was slacking)
The professor believes in his students.
One of the best teachers at LBCC His lectures are on powerpoints so there is no trouble taking notes. He encourages class discussion and is alway interesting. Test are multiple choice and essay and there are no surprises. If you need help he will bend over backwards to help.
Professor Goss is an excellent instructor and he seems to care about his students. Professor Goss also makes his class interesting by giving some thought provoking topics to discuss. I would totally recommend him to anyone that needs to take PoliSci. He cannot be beat. I really enjoyed having him as an instructor. Much props to him.
This was an awesome class! I learned so much during this class and can't wait to take another from Prof. Goss. He even went out of his way to help me when my work got in the way of school. I definitely recommend him. Don?t think his class will be easy though, notes are good but reading your text book is a must if you want to pass.
A very fair and objective PoliSci instructor! Respectful of all (or diverse) opinions. Took his class online in summer session (fast paced) so he may or may not be "easy", I can say he is unbiased/fair which makes for a conducive learning enviro. He was so cool though that I'd have been glad to take his on campus lecture class. He knows his stuff.
PROFFESOR GOSS WAS WONDERFUL. HE WAS HELPFULL AND HIS LECTURES WHERE INTERESTING.
Mr Goss is a great instructor. he is outgoing and helpful and will do all that he can for his students. Tests can be tricky, but study and take notes. Best advice: Make an effort, participate, & show him you are doing what you can and ull pass. Grading essays is on content, so have a general idea and know how it applies. Will take him again 4 sure!
He requires a lot of work but is very fair and is a great instructor!
Prof. Goss is amazing! He is very dependable on replying back to my e-mails. And when I needed him to send a letter to my FA saying that I attended his class so I wouldn't have to pay them back $800, he did it! I don't think I've ever had a teacher that would do that. The online class I took was medium to easy. Had to drop because of my schedule.
I took his class during summer school. Alot of work but as long as you do the homework, exercises and quizzes you will do fine! He was very helpful and replied back to emails promptly. This was a great class, I got a A.
Do not take this teacher. Rude rude rude rude rude rude.
Professor Goss was an incredible professor. Him and I went head to head a lot because he is a lot more conservative then I am. However, I always felt respect from him despite our arguments. I can honestly say that he gives grades based on merit and does not play favourites, because I was certainly not one of hios favourites and I left with an A.
Its no wonder why the political system is screwed up in our country, if he taught it as a real science and not how he thinks people should vote. Goss injects his own opinions not science. So called political professors like these do not even live in the community and do not teach facts but their own personal politics.
Goss is really helpful. He likes students coming over to his office, because he loves to help. He is always available and if he isn't, he'll call you back if you leave your number. He isn't the easiest teacher out there, because he wants to make sure that you learn the material but even THEN I wouldn't want to take another poli sci class without hi
This guy is so Rude! I took his class online and whenever I emailed him would always get 2-3 word responses which did not answer my question at all. I would not recommend him to anyone I passed the class but did not learn anything in the process.
Mr. Goss is the best Poli Sci teacher ever. I love him! He is very helpful & comprehensive. I don't know if it's because he likes me or because he's just that way, but if you talk to him about your issues, he will understand you&try his best to work his way around. He's not neglecting&does email back every time. His class is not hard if you read.
Mr. Goss let me take some time off his class & even let me take a test at home because of my illness, so that I wouldn't have to drop my class. Seriously, what other teacher does that!? No other teacher cares about a student's grade or problems THAT much! He is by far, the best teacher I've had. He is so charismatic & charming & rather handsome.
Online; 1/2 Semester. 5 chapters read every 2 weeks and with a quiz and forum question for every chapter. Also 4 exams with essay questions and a 6 page thought paper. He's very short and to the point. Emails take a while to get a response, but he's very understanding. Let me turn my thought paper in late when I was out of town :) Overall, great!
This is what all college professors should be like. He is very passionate about his subject and yes, he does require you to read and take "aggressive" notes (it is college, people!) for the tests but if you take good notes, you won't have to read the entire book, I did that and still got an A. Great teacher, cares a lot about students.
Great teacher! Class consist of 4 exams each of 80 analytical questions, but he does give plenty of extra credit, and practice tests online. Struggled throughout the semester, but studied hard and received a B! (oh, and about half of the class dropped by the end of the semester!)
professor goss wasn't that bad he is pretty difficult I struggled with the test but that god he offered extra credit and that his online quizzes and discussion boards were mandatory because they saved my behind lol also his political thought paper helped even though it was seven pages long it was worth 100 points and I got a 95
It's totally amazing how Goss could take a 500-page textbook, turn it into a 500-page study guide, and manage to test students on anything but the textbook or study guide. That takes some skill! I was managing to stay afloat until my wife threatened to leave me because of how demanding this class was of all my time, so I dropped it--too much work.
Great teacher! Really gets you to question/be critical about the way the government operates and the politicians who run it. Influenced me to be more active in politics. I love the class (not done yet), very empowering. He's tough, but if you communicate with him, ask for help, and just do the work (there's a lot!), you'll do fine.
This professor is a must. His lectures are very informative and engaging. If you have any questions, ask! He is passionate about Political Science and gives 'no bones about it' lectures on how the political process really works.
Every time I think of it, I regret taking this class with Eugene Goss. I didn't learn anything of value from the class. Its not political science, its a learn my political beliefs class.
The best. I enjoyed his class and the Bold statements that allow students 2 display knowledge and support ideas. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best teachers i have ever had. you can feel his passion. He is as fair as can be and rewards good behavior. If you do not want to learn, do not take this teacher. He is not easy, but Like i said, this guy is gold.
I was able to get a lot out of this class. Goss is extremely conservative and I am a borderline socialist but he never graded me down for not agreeing with him on political issues. I appreciated the perspective.
He seems like a great guy but his class was exciting one day & the next I couldn't stay awake. His tests weren't easy because I would find that there was random stuff in there. He offers help every class, I didn't take it, I waited too long. If you're a hard worker and interested, take him. If your trying to get this class out of the way, don't.
Prof. Goss opens each class with an "any questions?" opportunity to discuss current events or virtually any political science topic question you may have. My class had the political diversity of conspiracy theorists to think tank news junkies. He allows for all political view points to be expressed. Not for slackers! Serious students only!
At first you think this class is going to be easy and fun WRONG! His test are complicated and its random questions with only 30 mins to hand write 6 to 10 pages! You must learn and retain material quick or fail exams! 4 exams = 28 MCQ 2 essays. 12 pg paper end of sem, harsh grader! DONT TAKE!
I took POLSC 1 online, and was extremely disappointed by Professor Goss's lack of communication, effort, and clarity. Majority of the interaction was with the Pearson program online, and a lot of the exams do not correspond to the reading, which makes it a difficult course if Political Science is not your language. Take the class in person.
Mr. Goss is very passionate about political science, enjoyed his class. His tests are DIFFICULT, you have to study HIS NOTES and the BOOK! ATTEND the class and pay attention. Do NOT take this course if you want an easy A. Simple class, 4 tests and 1 essay due by end of semester but it's difficult. I learned a lot from him and was able to get an A.
Professor Goss is a great person. His exams are slightly on the difficult side. Honestly, you have to just read EVERYTHING he tells you to read. I had him for both POLSC10 and POLSC1 and received a C and a B, respectively. I didn't read the first semester which is the reason I received a C. He is a great instructor. He loves office hour visits.
Don't take him
If you love politics, you will love his lectures. They are passionate and informative- I learned SO much in his class and discovered a passion for Poli Sci. in myself. However, you do need to do the reading as the tests are worth your entire grade and they cover more than just lectures. A hard class, but worth it if you care about the subject.
His lectures are amazing, he has a level of insight that is both clarifying and inspiring. His sense of humor also helps the lectures move along. Plus he has experience in politics which gives him a unique perspective from other teachers.
Great guy. Very passionate. Not the easiest class I've had but really enjoyed taking his class. He is really there to offer help if you want to take advantage of it. Only 1 paper, 4 test and quite a few extra credit opportunities.
He loves and lives what he teaches, great professor. His tests are difficult but you have to read and study everything he assigns to do well. Provokes a desire to become more politically involved in your community. Enjoyed listening to his lectures.
DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND MATERIAL! YOU MUST READ ON YOUR OWN. All he goes over in class is his powerpoints which are only 14 of the material you need to know for exams. I failed.
His class discussions are among the best of my college career. He is really passionate about political science and it shows through his lectures. This class is difficult but if you read the book and listen to his lectures you will pass. He likes to start class with open discussion on questions or issues you're interested in. My favorite professor!
Not the easiest, but the Best!! An eye-opening political science class.
hard class treats you like if your in graduate school , must read the text book to pass or else you won't know the material in class his power points really don't help much you'll only find like 6 questions from the lecture out of 80 so you need to read , good luck with him
I took this class online and it was very difficult. He doesn't give any powerpoint slides or doesn't give information about the subject- at all! You have to read, read, read! Doesn't give much feedback in discussion post responses nor does he clarify. I feel a little deceived, there was no interaction with the professor and my grade wasn't good.
This so called professor Goss is one of the most difficult people I have ever encountered. He seems to enjoy making students work hard and fail them . He is very unorganized. He basically does NOTHING during the online course. No Lectures . All what he asks that you read the chapters on your own, take the quizes and tests. The computer grades them
I took the online course over summer intercession. Tons of reading, tons of time. I expected this class to be challenging because of the shorter time, and it was. Dr Goss was a fair grader, and responsive to my emails when sent. This class is not for those looking to coast by with an easy A, you earn you grade here. Only serious students apply.
His class is based on powerpoint lecture as he speaks and you are writing down as much notes as you can! Reading is mandatory if you want to do well on the exams. Multiple Choice. He is an amazing professor, but if you don't plan to give effort to the class then it isn't for you. It's college. Best professor at LBCC. Visit him during office hours!
Well! In a nutshell, I had a great time in Professor Goss's class. I really enjoyed our class discussions. I learned a lot and really respect his way of teaching. I would suggest this class if you are a true Poli Sci Major and are looking for a real challenge and to learn from a real Politician. Now for the real real, His class is HARD AS HELL!!!!
I took Professor Goss for Pol-Sci 3 & Pol-Sci 10. I've never had a better professor than this man! He is an outstanding professor that really takes his work seriously. He is also a REAL politician teaching Political Science, so he knows what he's talking about. Ask questions in class, do your reading, & LISTEN to him. You will do great!
I took this class over the winter (8 week course class) If you dislike political science do not take this class Its very boring and hard political science is hard in general Textbook is a must and attendance is a must can't fall behind due dates or you will fail
You are practically on your own. Of course it is an online course and it's more independent but even so, he was never around! He rarely posted announcements and comments on the discussion board. He never replies emails and if he does he takes a lot of time to reply.
This is the worst possible polisci class to take with Goss. He treats the class like if it was graduate school when it's just an intro into polisci. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Final paper is horrible and expects too much.
Barely present in online course, and when he is, comments are like: vague, just bad, ok or good job! Don't know the point of him being an instructor there. On top of that, paper is horrible -- more requirements in that thing than in my all my english classes combined, learned nothing from him and grades you like you're a political scientist.
Took this as an online course to balance out my work and class schedule. This online course is not structured like others and it appears you do more work in this class than you would in a traditional setting. Test dates change each week. Pre and Post test are required before you can take the actual test itself.
Professor Goss is a great teacher his class consists of four exams and a research paper. His tests require you to read the textbook and his tests consist of multiple choice true false and two essay questions. He gives you the essay questions in advance. Easy class, he has a dorky humor. He also gives extra credit in case you need it.
He seems like he is a good person. He's nice. He's big on following rules/instructions. You have to read the textbook properly/in depth to get an A. It's not an easy A but for anyone who wants an A it's doable.
This online class requires a lot of reading per week, and at the end of each chapter is a quiz. There is more then enough time to get it all done IF you prepare and read in advance. Mid Term and Final are 10 essay questions that are easy to answer, IF you've read the chapters and reviewed the study guide.
amazing fiscal hawk this guy is what has made me more inspired in pursuing my carrer as a politician/lawyer
Great Professor! I took Professor Goss for Political Science 1 online two semesters ago. Like all online courses you need to stay on top of all of the assignments and complete them to your best ability. His assignments were well thought out and extremely interesting (especially for someone who doesn't think they like history or Polisci)
If you are serious about Political Science and your education, Professor Goss is one of (if not THE) best professors you could have. He has passion and heart in his lectures and cares about the topic. His test is half multiple choice from the text and half essays from lectures so take LOTS of notes. The Final research paper is heavy but fun!
Took his class years ago, but Dr. Goss knows his stuff. Lots of reading. His humor is a little dorky but endearing. Lecture heavy and he goes through so much information, so prepare to take a TON of notes. Forget about skipping class because attendance is mandatory. Would definitely love to pick his brain about current political climate.
Initially took him for an online course and got a B, decided to take him the following semester for another Political Science course on campus. Prof. Goss is very passionate about politics and gives great lectures. His classes are textbook heavy and you are required to study a lot to pass the exams; beware the exams are difficult.
Like most poli-sci professors, he's primarily conservative. However, he NEVER discusses progressive viewpoints with as much depth as conservative ones. Class is mostly based off of his own opinions. Do your own outside research! Use it in essays! Debate him if you know your stuff! He won't knock your grade for it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GOSS IS POLITICS IS NOT YOUR MAJOR! He is a good professor and cares a lot about politics. He treats everyone as if this is their only class. The tests are solely based on the textbook, yet the text book is never discussed in class. Your on your own for that portion.
Demanding course, too much work!
I took professor Goss for polsci 10. There was no homework ever assigned except for a semaster long research paper due at the end of the semester. His lectures consist of power points and test are half multiple choice half essay. I really enjoyed his class my Favorite teacher so far but be warned he's really tuff
My experience with his online course is that it's too quiz/test heavy, his online class was one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. It was extremely time consuming and demanding for an online class. In my honest opinion, DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE CLASS! The online class needs to be reworked before anyone can/should take it.
I can honestly say i was afraid to take this class because i didn't know anything about political science or the terminology. I will say this teacher might have a lot of work but it was worth to learn and ask him questions his very carrying and helpful. I passed with an A, and i would take him again. Keep up with reading and the class will be easy
What do I love most about this professor? Nothing.
in my experience Professor Goss knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about political science. However, his class is very lecture heavy. if you don't go to class you for sure won't pass. make sure to read the book, the questions on the test are trivial questions so make sure to know small details like dates rather than major topics
Passionate teacher with plenty of experience. His lectures are great and not politically partisan like some political science professors. Be sure to read the book for the exams or else you might have a hard time. Very professional and willing to entertain all sides to political debate.
Professor goss is amazing. He is so knowledgeable about politics and is really dedicated to his students. His class is easy going. Just lecture and notes but if you dont read the book, you wont pass. I definately recommend him.
I have taken many online course, and this was my least favorite. Most of it is reading, and taking the tests online. There are a few exams, and are simple enough if you've read/research. I would not take an online class with this professor ever again.
do not take this class if youre not a polisci major. it is lecture heavy and you have to do a lot of reading on your own. goes off topic a lot in class and just reads off powerpoints. if youre not naturally interested in polisci steer clear of this class
A professor I'd recommend to avoid at all cost. More than half of the class dropped by the date you recieve a W. Taught by lecture and power point but the questions on the exams did not correlate only the written part did which is only half of the exams.
Not very good at teaching consistently gets off topic. The textbook he assigned has large chapters which he'll usually assign 1 chapter each class meeting chapters are 30-35 pgs long. Might be too much info but I'm trying to paint a picture of how easy it is to fall behind. Definitely NOT a do it on your own kind of class at least with this prof.
I have taken many of online courses, so i know a thing or two when it comes to the condensing of a class. However, professor Goss does not. He expects you to complete an entire 16 week course in 8 weeks. He did not condense a thing. You wil read a chapter every day and take an exam every day! Worst of all he extended the class completion date.
Professor has a bad attitude. he thinks he is better than everyone. there is a lot of reading and for exams you read 5 chapters w/ no study guide. I asked for one to just help me to understand what would be on the exam he refused to help in any way he will send you to someone else to get help. made me feel dumb for asking him for help...
If youre genuinely interested in majoring in political science, I would highly recommend taking his class. Yes the work load can be a lot and he only puts 4 exams and a 8 page essay in the grade book but its not impossible. I can say Goss really helped me become a better student and fueled my ambition for a career in political science.
I had Professor Goss in Spring 2019. One Word: awesome! His lectures were interesting and always willing to answer questions. His tests are not that easy so read the book and take GOOD lecture notes. He seemed intimidating but if you talk to him during office hours, he is actually chill and humble. Hard class but you will learn
He makes you put a lot of detail in your discussions or else he will dock points including in the exams. Be aware of the schedule because the online course went combusted with a lot of work almost everyday. The books are cheap but together is like 120. so idk i think other prof do not require one.
Prof Goss is the best Professor you will get in LBCC. There is no other professor that will prepare you for the big universities. If you are shy of hard work, reconsider being a politcal science major because Prof Goss teaches scholars. The very best at lecturing along with the passion for participation. Everything you want from a Poli Sci Prof.
I took this class online. He only prefers E-Books. The class was definitely a challenge. Only critique, you have only one day to do an exam and he switches the days every time. This year our final exam is today Friday, 13th so no parties to me.
I've taken him for Polsc 1 & 10 and he is so nice! He may seem intimidating but if you go to his office hours and he sees you care about your grade you'll be fine! His lectures are interesting! take good notes! (pro tip: write the examples from his lectures and put them in your essay) He loves when you apply what we learn. I learned so much!
grades discussion boards way too harshly and expects you to give essays, his tests are the same level of difficulty. he grades really hard and wants expert writing skills, dont take this class if youre just looking for an easy ge
Very strict, doesn't work with your schedule, so if you have a busy life DON'T TAKE HIM! He requires you to do a quiz every other day and the exams are 10 written questions, they are timed.
Get ready to teach yourself because his lecture is way too far from the actual materials. I learn nothing from this class.
Goss is a challenging but fair professor with a mastery of American government, the political process, and a detailed framework for the major policy challenges face by the US public/government. He tries to be politically neutral/hidden but it's pretty clear he leans on econ conservatism, social liberalism. Brunt personality, fair grader, lots of EC
This class was definitely more on the difficult side. There are 2 or 3 discussion boards per week and with each DB is a Chapter Exam. Then there's a big Unit exam which is heavy duty. 3 hour time limit, 10 questions, 2 paragraph responses per question. Google will be your best friend for tests ;) He's a fairly easy grader if you actually try.
Goss is very intelligent and is a seasoned politician. This can come off as abrasive but it's nothing too crazy. He grades pretty harsh but has a lot of good feedback and points to teach. The workload is manageable, about a discussion board a week plus a few journal article reviews, and a final cumulative paper. Overall a good class, can't go wrong
I liked the class. Professor Goss is great, you can tell he is very passionate. Not much work: 1 discussion and 1-2 chapters of reading per week. 4 exams; multiple-choice section + essay section with 4 questions, minimum 3 paragraphs each. Also a student choice research paper due on the last day. He also offers much extra credit. Highly recommend.
Professor Goss is very passionate about what he teaches, and he is great at keeping a neutral position on the issues discussed. Weekly discussion posts, several exams, and a semester research paper. As long as you attend most of the lectures and read the textbook pages, you'll pass.
Professor Goss is an amazing professor. His lectures are really long and he is a strict grader, but I learned a lot from his class. He provides the text book for you online and as long as you watch his lectures and read the chapters you should get a passing grade.
He really knows what he's talking about and gives really beneficial information in his lectures. The weekly workload typically consists of a discussion post and a quiz. As long as you take good notes you'll do fine. Also, if you have any questions, he is willing to answer them. He's a solid professor.
Winter Session- Lecture, reading, exam, and discussion board daily (sometimes Saturdays are included ). A bit of a tough grader but as long as you answer the prompt you'll be fine. The Unit Exams are really annoying, 10 free response questions in 3 hours, expects a detailed paragraph each.
Don't take this class for winter. 1 hour lecture with 10 question quiz Sunday-Friday until the class is over. Final weeks includes 3-4 normal lectures quizzes on top of final paper and 10 question exam requiring paragraph response. Final paper 10 sources 5 pages of content not including end notes, works cited, and cover page. Very Very tough class.
He was a great professor, but this was a winter term and was basically 6-7 hours of reading and taking notes in addition to an hour+ of lecture, daily. Maybe his longer term classes arent as tough, but getting the work done in 4 weeks was - a lot.
This is a solid choice, completely doable. Professor Goss has his lectures condensed and his criteria is very specific. He tells you what he wants for his assignments and he doesn't play with words, like leave out the main idea or vowel in a word to make it harder for us to understand on a test. I'm in the 3rd week of class and still enjoying it
You get a zero for editing your work, never have I ever had a professor that has done this. Nor did I cheat I was the first one to post even when I edited no one posted. THIS WAS FOR A DISCUSSION POST. He sent a email that only 6 people got a 9/10 or 10/10 the rest got 7.5 or lower just for editing and spelling. THE WORST PROFESSOR.
For GE, don't take him. Strict grader with little feedback on discussion prompts or written unit exams. Module exams can't be completed in advance. Multiple assignments a week with no breaks. Powerpoints are just topics from the book with no explanation. Lectures are relevant but he does not keep them up for later review. Final paper is an ordeal.
Professor Goss can be a bit rude. The professor is not flexible when it comes to assignments and he doesn't give extra credit. In some cases, he will use his own version of a definition rather than the one found in the textbook. You must e-mail him if you have a question, as all the lectures are recorded, but that's part of the online class.
The class overall is interesting, he uses ppts but talks a lot for one slide so pay attention. There are weekly discussions on random days of the week. Exams are not too hard if you can write quickly because part 2 of the exam is 3 essays in 1 hr but he lets you know the topic before. Most of the information he gives you is in person in class.
Goss is truly a great professor for those who are looking to get more out of this class than just a GPA boost. He has a lot of great things to say during lecture and nearly everything in the class is based on lecture so be ready to show up! Easy grader if you pay attention to material because he gives you every answer you could need during class.
Professor Goss does not unlock assignments until the day they are due (One day to complete). The bulk of his assignments are essays, and as someone that takes other classes, or for people that have to work on top of school, this is not a good teacher. I have NEVER had a teacher that gives you one day to complete a multiple hour assignment.
Professor Goss may be a tough cookie for the first couple of weeks at the beginning of the semester, however he leverages himself with the class once he knows where everyone stands and how easy or difficult the class understands him. Overall, terrific professor in my opinion.
I was in this class for a week before deciding to drop. For the first few assignments I was marked down and when I asked for feedback he flat out told me no and that he didn't have time?!? Overall, does not care about his students from what I've seen. Do not recommend!!! Please listen to these reviews and find someone nicer.
He's a good professor and you can tell he's really into what he's teaching, always says he "could go on and on". I wouldn't recomend him if you're just trying to fulfill general ed. requirements, but if your major requires or relates to poli sci then he's a good choice. gets about half of his quiz questions from quizlet.
He is quite literally one of the worst professors I have ever come into contact with, confusing grading scale that doesn't really allow you to track how you are doing (has a numbered points system instead of percentages like everyone else) He does not send out any reminders on assignments, and on top of that an unnecessary tough grader.
I learned more from professor Goss than any other facility member at the school. For any political science major his POLSC 3 class is a must take. He will challenge your views and really make you think. Take good notes and this class is a breeze. All classes are lectures, but Goss makes them fun. He has a great sense of humor. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Take his class if you're willing to attend every meeting because every meeting is a different lecture. He has PowerPoint slides and it would be best to take notes because he doesn't post them. It's not hard to get a good grade in his classes, if you don't intend to take this class seriously then don't bother attending because you will fall behind.
I had no choice but to withdraw from this class because the professor repeatedly accused me of plagiarism, despite my providing visual evidence to the contrary. As a result, I received numerous failing grades. Regrettably, I will need to retake the class with a different instructor. I cannot recommend this professor.
This professor literally assigns hw every single day. He's ok but it can be overwhelming
this word limit doesn't allow me to adequately describe my disdain for this classist, uncaring professor. his grading is arbitrary and he is incredibly rude & unforgiving when life matters happen -- including needing to travel out of state for a funeral and not allowing to reschedule an exam. don't waste your time; he has no respect for it.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken and this is only an introductory course. He is an extremely tough grader and has high expectations. His exams are 3 hours long but have only 10 questions. You will have to write and write and write. I only recommend his class to those that can take the challenge or which to pursue a political degree.
He wanted too much and he literally gave assignments everyday don't take him I recommend any other professor
I had a C as my final grade but he gave me a d because I didn't do the final exam even tho the total points I had a relieved was a C he gives way too much homework i don't recommend taking him.
Due to significant difficulties in communication, teaching methods, difficult exams, challenging lectures, and being unfairly accused of plagiarism, I would rate this professor a one. I would not recommend on taking this Professor. He dropped me from his class mid semester and accused me unfairly.
i usually dont rate professors but just warning people to not take this professor, exams are very hard and 3 hours long.
Horrible with grading. He doesn't want factual responses, instead he wants you to write what HE thinks is right which makes the assigned textbook pointless. He will write demeaning comments, you can get 100% and he'll still write sarcastic replies about how you don't pay attention to him... Calls 3 hour tests where you write 10+ paragraphs "short"
Save your stress
I wish I had never taken this course. I am a CSULB student who needed one last general education class and thought taking it at city college was a smart choice, WRONG. This professor runs this class harder than my CSU classes. AVOID HIM.
The professor expects extensive writing and reading,to the point where note-taking can become physically taxing. Exams are three hours long and consist of 10 questions, requiring paragraph-length response.Balancing this course with full-time work and other studies is overwhelming. The professor removes access to the lectures so make sure take notes.
Man, all
Professor Goss has a very specific teaching style that may not work for everyone. Exams are long and grading can be tough. But unstuck ai helped me stay on top of the material. Worth considering with caution.
Professor Goss is a strict grader on his exams, however, he also makes the expectations clear. If you are not quick at taking notes, he will not wait for you. I deeply enjoyed taking his class and would recommend him if you actually want to learn more about your country. He is deeply passionate and wants to see you succeed.
The amount of work expected is absurd, 2 hour long tests every week, he will decide (on what I can only assume to be a coin flip) if your answers have correct grammar, he will his previous lectures down as soon as the next unit starts, and he will demean you as far as he can go if you give him an excuse.
PROF GOSS IS AN AWESOME PROFESSOR, AND I WOULD TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. HIS LECTURES REALLY DO TEACH YOU AND DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, HE CARES ENOUGH TO SET THE BAR HIGH. HE IS VERY CLEAR AND ORGANIZED ON HIS CLASS STRUCTURE AND IF YOU FIND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEN YOU'RE PROBABLY JUST UNCOMFORTABLE AND NOT HIGH FUNCTIONING. THANK U PROF GOSS
Do not take this class if you have a life outside of school, you will not have any free time. Also calling anyone who doesn't like your class "NOT HIGH FUNCTIONING" isn't a great look for you man.
Prof. Goss is unique among faculty at LBCC. He does not hide his political leanings. Much of his talking points are either out dated or are outright propaganda. He comes across as very elitist and classist. His instruction can be difficult to follow, but if you do the assigned work, you should do okay. Just don't expect to enjoy it.
Honestly, Prof Goss is a gem. His class will call on you to either impress or be mediocre. I earned an "A" in his class and I was happy to listen to his lectures once I understood that I will have to earn my grade, and he recognized my integrity and quality of work. He was the Mayor of his city, and kind enough to give me a college reccomendation.
Do not take this class if you do not view politics the way he does, and if you are not a Trump follower. He made me feel degraded and very distressed and in disbelief how someone could make me feel belittled on my work. His expectations are very high. Never in my two years of taking classes at LBCC have I felt that way.
Insightful. Brings to life the information in the textbook. Make sure to take notes, he will test you on information he shared in the lecture. Make sure to complete the discussion board questions. This class is not the type to start homework an hour before it's due. You need to read so you can speak into the discussion board.
I would not recommend him if you have a life outside or if you have other classes. For his assignments, his lectures are hard to follow and you would HAVE to read the text book. If you do all of his assignments you should be good, just don't expect to get a good grade. As for him, he gave me a hard time and is a Trump follower.
Honestly, the hardest and maybe worst professor I've ever experienced. He's very biased, and it seems to pain him if he has to talk about discrimination in history and modern times. He clearly doesn't think it actually exists. His grading is the worst if you're not a master at writing essays or saying the things he wants to hear.
He assigns things due the day they are posted whether it be a quiz, test, or discussion board. He sends out no reminders, grades extremely harshly and gives basically 0 extensions and allows no late work. I would never recommend someone take his class unless they absolutely have to.
You will have to work for your grade. Prior study skills are a non-negotiable. Writing skills are a must. He doesn't provide explanations for grade deductions so I suggest emailing him for feedback. Unit exams were shortened to 100 minutes long and 5 questions each. Good professor if you want a challenge or are majoring in political science.
