easy A, has busy work, felt a little elementary at points but he is a good teacher who cares about his students.
very helpful. really wants to help students succeed in his class, but you have to be willing to meet him half way. extremely understanding and flexible. sometimes he repeats himself and goes on tangents but overall, the class had good structure and he was a genuinely nice guy.
HAD him for 1101 as well. good intentions, disorganized, a lot of busy work but he doesnt not try to fail you, he wants everyone to get good grades but since he is new to UCF he is a bit lost at times, not that hard to get an A. just make sure you go to class. i would recommend him if you are a bad writer and want to improve or just get an A.
Caring, inspiring, and a sensational professor overall.
There's not much to say about Prof. Launier, other than the fact that he's a great teacher. He is one of the few professors I've had that actually cares about his students. Classes are planned, instructions are clear, and the work is fair. A great English professor! I wish I could have gotten in his ENC1102 class! Do the work, get an A!
He is a very nice teacher and easy to work with. He will often ask when you want to turn your papers. However, he is a little tough when it comes to grading papers. He also gives alot of busy work. If you are not good in writing you might want to consider taking someone else.
Prof Launier is awesome. Took him for 1102, wish I had him for 1101. I would recommend him to anyone! He does give some busy work, but it is always so easy. He helps you with whatever you need and tries to accommodate everyone in the class.
At the start of the semester I had high hopes of this professor. However, our class suffered due to him taking on too much of a "load". He stated to our class that he put us on the bottom of his priority list. It's a day before grades are due and not ONE person knows there grades. His class was unorganized and he contradicted his syllabus.
Very nice, but very boring. Talks alot and gives busy work.
This was the best professor I've had so far. He Extremely helpful and he teaches you how to write a good paper. His attendance is mandatory so try not to miss too much class. If you hate English and are looking for a way to improve and to have an easier time doing it take his class!
Very unorganized. His class is all over the place. Every day he changes the syllabus and schedule. Unclear on grading. He takes off points, but wont explain why He's very big on small group discussions and "letting the students teach" But, in 3000 level course, HE needs to teach! How can a fellow student teach me something they don't know?
In the market for an UNRELIABLE professor? LAUNIER'S YOUR GUY!
Truth be told, he's a nice guy. However, he takes on way too much of a load. So much so, he doesn't keep students up to date. He lets his personal life take have an impact on class all the time, and expects the students to be understanding. But, don't expect the same from him. I mean, he'll say he'll make arrangements, but he wont follow through.
He is an amazing professor and makes everything plain and simple. If you dont pass his class with at least a B+ you basicly did nothing at all.
10 days til finals and we have yet to receive one graded assignment back. Went to see him on the first writing assignment that is worth 25% of the grade and was informed I had a 68. Was able to rework the paper. Arrived in class this week and Professor informed us that we have 3 major papers due by our last class. That is next week. Stay away.
Okay Okay he sucks at teaching BUT hes soo oblivious! Like first couple of days in class, u do a couple of things but ther not hard. His essays just write a typical essay he cares for his students but gets annoying bc hes disorganized but serioulsy he tries 2 bribe u for a good rating. so hes good...class=waste of time but always go! cuz he remembe
He is a very emotional and unstable teacher. He lets his personal life intrude on the class and if he is having a bad day he takes it out on his students or blames his students. I would not recommend taking his class.
I've been stapling a paper at 10:31, when class started at 10:30 and been unable to turn it in.He is always taking our his personal life on students, threatens to quit, then talks about the changes he will make next semester. Unorganized, confusing, and I don't think I've learned anything. Quote:"I'll fail you on a whim"
spare yourself. don't do it unless you want to be the blame for everything bad in his life. possibly one of the worst teachers.
do not take this teacher. he is unproffesional and disorganized. you will not accomplish anything and be aggravated the entire time.
He is an UNRELIABLE professor. He does not show up to office hours when he says he will be there, and does not grade work in a timely fashion. I received the grade for an essay written in February, at the end of April. The worst professor I have ever had.
If you are looking to spend your entire semester unaware of whether you're getting an a or an f you've found your guy. Launier spends the whole time talking about what we have to do, instead of explaining how to do it. He bribes people to take his class because no one would on their own free will. ! He can't keep his emotions out of his class.
I had him for summer and he wasnt too bad. He really is not an organized teacher. We had to do a 15 pg paper for summer a session and honestly it was not that much work. You write the paper a little at a time. He does have some filler work and wastes time, but his grading is mostly participation and it is an easy a if you make the effort.
Launier is extremely unorganized and its difficult to follow all of his directions because they are constantly changing. He doesn't grade papers until the end of the semester, and grades are based on final paper (15 pgs) and participation in class. Attendence is mandatory. I would not recommend this teaher.
He's great! Most of my classmates in the spring were oblivious, spoiled dimwits with a gross sense of entitlement. They were also too dumb and immature to understand his clear points and requests. He stresses learning, not grades, so if you actually want to improve yourself, you'll do very well. Most of my classmates were too dumb to get it.
Professor Launier is such an understanding teacher. I was scared at first because of the reviews I had read about him but this guy's course is so easy. You get assigned essays, you write them, he grades them, then you can keep rewriting them till you get an A. The best part is he tells you your mistakes and if you fix them you should get a A
A NIGHTMARE! SO much homework reading long articles that were painfully boring. He was very disorganized and unprofessional, he let his personal life affect his attitude toward the class. He said ENC1102 would be better then ENC1101 but the class was intense, he seemed to think that we all wanted to be English majors.
He's a nice Man. I think his intentions are good but sometimes he just doesn't have it all together. He's really into his family so when something is going on in his personal life he does seem to take it out on his students and makes it seem as if we're doing something wrong.
Well this guy is nice, but he gives so much work.. he said, "I believe every student should get an A", but he grades so hard and expects us all to think of ingenius philosophical conclusions that we may not have the compositional capacity for. He doesn't get angry, but our class was a good one.... remember to participate!...
Participation 20%. Research Paper 20%. Six assignments (2-3 page essays) 60% collectively. He assigns too many essays for you to even think about what you're doing. Mindless writing to finish the assignment. However, he grades more than fairly, and you can revise to improve grades. Moves through things quickly, leaves your head spinning. Stress.
Best teach i have ever had in my entire life. If writting is your thing take it with this guy he is amazing. Be prepared to work hard though but in the end your grade will be an easy a. This class demands intenses deep thinking
Launier is a good man, a smart guy and a great teacher. he is clear when explaining what is being said in discoursal communication and One-on-one he is excellent to talk to if you want help, direction, or focus on your papers. Be sure to go to class and revise those papers for better grades! laid back class and an easy A if you participate
He is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. Hes helpful although sometime is lectures seem vague. I feel like we spent a love of time on one paper but then rushed through the next 3. Make sure to read all the articles he gives you. His class isnt hard but you have to stay on task. Overall hes a good teacher i would definitely take him again.
I took this class my freshman year. I am currently a senior and I still remember Mr. Launier. He is one of the most sweetest, honest, and sincere teachers I have ever met. Work hard and your garenteed an A. Very helpful during office hours. Lets you do rewrites. Your grade is based on 4 main papers. He's a good man & a great teacher.
I took Professor Launier for 1101 and 1102, at first it took a while to catch on to his teaching style but he is really helpful and will help you every step of the way through your papers. He lets students do re-writes to improve their grades too. One of the nicest, most generous professors I've had. Definitely recommend!
He's a family man and treats each of his students like they're one of his own. He cares about your improvement and allows you to rewrite papers if you want. Make sure to participate because that is a large portion of your grade. I would take him for ENC 1102 if I could!
My best prof by far. Although the class readings are a drag he makes class interesting and engaging. Always there if you need help, answers all questions. An amazing professor I would definitely recommend his class.
Very nice, caring person, but extremely harsh grader. Expects writing to be top notch for every essay.
i had always HATED english and writing. after taking his class, i found a genuine interest for writing. best english professor ive ever had in my life. he deeply cares about every one of his students.
Very fun and very nice, I recommend him. He's very helpful, and I looked forward to his class every day. I'm happy I get to take him for 1102
He was the best teacher I ever had at UCF. His teaching methods were bizarre but fun, and he always had a smile on his face:) He was very caring and let you redo homework for additional points tincrease your grade. If you put forth the effort he knew and would award you with a better grade. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
My FAVORITE professor at UCF. He genuinely cares whether you do well or not in class, and makes an effort to help if he sees you're struggling. We got to revise papers as many times as needed to get a satisfactory grade, and he always was available if you needed help. He also made class interesting.
I'm a horrible writer and I can't stand any sorts of english class, but this class was worthwhile. He always made time to meet with me and improved my writing greatly. It's not an easy A, but if you take the time to meet with him, he'll almost write your paper for you/give you ideas. Go to class too, it boosts your grade a lot! Take this professor!
Professor Launier is awesome! he is such an old school hippy haha but he made class not that bad and was really nice. He accepts everyone's writing pretty much and if you talk in class in the discussions, you're good. I never read ANY of the homeworks and still got A's on all of them! i would definitely recommend him!!!! :)
Nice guy, keeps you entertained. Couldn't figure out what he was looking for in terms of grades.
Prof. Launier is the greatest professor I have had to date. I have never met someone who genuinely wants his students to succeed as much as he does. He is incredibly caring and willing to do whatever it takes to help you do well. I had no interest in writing, and he made this class amazing for me. I can not say enough nice things about him.
DEFINITELY TAKE HIM! I haven't had many professors, but he's by far my favorite! I plan on taking him for ENC 1102. He cares about his students 100% and loves what he does! He's always there to help and classes are never boring. I always wanted to go to class, it was the best part of my day! Take him, you will not regret it!
Prof Launier was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He expects a lot out of you in terms of giving intelligent answers to homework and papers, but if you go to class, he will always explain things you don't understand. He's very willing to help. Attendance isn't mandatory but GO TO CLASS. Big portfolio project at the end of the semester.
He is the best professor I had. There's a lot of work, but it's not that bad. He's just so genuinely nice. He loves to make jokes and have fun with us in class. The only pain in the butt in the class is the portfolio at the end, so make sure you stay organized! I went from a English hater to a English liker. I was also in his favorite class (:
Great Teacher. Very nice guy. You have homework usually every other day but its not to bad. You definitely need the Writing about Writing book. Take this guy
He makes this an unnecessarily stressful class. Gives a ton of assignments that seem pretty pointless. He's a nice guy and he's helpful, I just think he made it more of a research class than an english class.
AMAZING TEACHER!!!
He may have been a decent professor for 1101 but he was terrible for 1102. He change his mind on assignments all the time and made everything much more difficult than it needed to be. Definitely try to get any other professor for ENC 1102!
A great English teacher that always tries to help every student. Very easy going and provides thorough examples that help with assignments. Homework is not difficult, but you have to prepare for several lengthy papers.
Professor Launier cares so much for his students. Whenever you have a problem, or any concern he is there to answer your emails every time. His class is straight forward, and he is very clear on what he expects from you. If you put in the work, it is an easy A. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. His teaching style is refreshing.
WAY TOO MUCH BUSY WORK. The assignments never end. He's a great professor and really cares but the amount of work for an English class is absolutely ridiculous when you have other classes to study for and do assignments in. There's literally an assignment every day. Yes, they're easy, but its annoying to take up time.
I took the class mixed mode so half our work was online. Ridiculous amount of busy work and was not always clear on what he wanted because he often changed his mind on assignment criteria and due dates. The class was not hard, just a lot of unnecessary work and I am still not sure what the point of all of it was.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! He was the nicest teacher, very intelligent as well. If you do poorly on an assignment, he will let you redo the assignment as many times as you want until you receive an A. He was my favorite teacher at UCF. He is a teacher that actually cares about your well being and will actually try to help you. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
I wouldn't recommend this professor. He prides himself on how helpful he is and how much he enjoys engaging with students, but I constantly feel like I have no idea what's going on. I consider English one of my stronger suits but this class was such a pain considering all of the busy work, very high expectations, and rambling lectures. Avoid him.
This class is a RIDICULOUS amount of work. All the other ENC 1102 classes do 1/10 the amount of work you will do for this class. Professor is nice and helpful if you need him but the amount of work is insane. I don't mind doing work but you will end up writing well over 100 pages by the time this course is over. Try and find another teacher!!
He's nice, but gives way too much work. He'll be helpful when you need it but you better be prepared to spend a lot of time on this class. The textbook is required so get it early. Also, do not put off the final project. Be sure to keep working on it and don't fall behind or you'll easily fail the class.
He is such a great prof! You read a lot of readings in your textbook, and have to answer a few quick questions, but they are opinion based, so they aren't hard. You have a writing "project" that is 16-20 long, but that is the only essay you write the whole semester. No tests! My favorite freshman class for sure. There for you and very understanding
Best English teacher I have ever had! He provides great feedback and learning opportunities even though most of my peers didn't take advantage of them. He genuinely cares about the students and will go out of his way to help you. He is also very open with the class and cracks occasional jokes to keep you entertained. Overall great teacher!
Don't take him. he sounds easy in the beginning but in the end you end up with one 16 page paper and he doesn't clarify the criteria for it and if you do bad on that one paper you end up failing the class. i would have much rather 4, 4 page papers where i have fluff to my grade. take someone else please! hes nice but will screw you over.
He assigns a lot of readings, and with each reading you have questions to respond to.. We have one 16 page project that is almost 80% of the final grade.. He's very hard
He gives a ton of homework, but I realized that at the end of the course everything I had done helped me to complete the 16 page project that is essential to passing the class. You have to work very hard, but he teaches you something valuable that no other English professor can do: teaching you how to write for self-discovery.
Prof. Launier is extremely cool and a great personality to be around. His classes make students think complexly about writing. He allows them to reinvent their writing approach and style. His lessons can be applied beyond the classroom and to life in general. You won't regret taking his class.
Showing up for class is important but the grade is mostly based on one paper that you build material for over the entire course. Talk to Professor Launier, because he will give you all the help and information you need for an A. Easy class, 100% would take again.
Launier is hilarious and you can tell he cares a lot about his students. He gives "busy work" but it's so easy. He encourages students to participate in class and there are a lot of group discussions so be prepared. He tends to move deadlines around but it's usually to give you more time to work so you really can't complain. Just loved him.
He requires you to do a bunch of unnecessary assignments that won't benefit your 16-page research project due at the end of the semester. It was a lot of wasted time that I could have spent working and editing my project. We started on the project a month before the due date. On the other hand, he is always willing to help.
He is the first professor to actually show the most interest in his job and students. He will put in the hoursenergy to help you but you must also show interest. A lot of reading and writing but not too difficult. I wish I could have taken him for ENC1101.
This class was pretty easy you just have to show up and complete the assignments. Most of the Assignments work where if you turn it in you get 100. He has a super lax late work policy (as in no penalty for up to a week). Don't need the book. The catch for this class is the final paper and proposal are graded hard and the former is 16 pages!
I just took his class for the summer and WOW. I love the way he thinks about writing and how it should be graded. He is overall a really great teacher and is really there for his students. He gives a lot of assignments, however they are not "bull" assignments. They really help you with writing your paper. I will always remember him. The best.
He's a great teacher! super helpful! His class is super easy, just show up because he explains the hw. The hw is a lot of reading, but isn't bad at all. He's awesome and even gives you days off! Oh and he says that he can teach without the textbook so he instructed not to buy them with saves you like $150.
If you actually want to learn something, do not take his ENC3331 class. I love rhetoric, but he makes me hate it; It's one of the worst classes that I've ever taken at UCF. It's not that it's hard, it's just that he goes on these tangents every class period. He grades assignments very subjectively, and the textbook basically taught me everything.
Professor Launier will give you every chance to succeed. I'm not saying it's an easy A, but if you truly care about getting an A, he will do everything he can to make sure you understand the material. He has plenty of office hours, and will even meet up with you outside of those office hours if you ask him to. He's a very helpful professor.
I took Professor Launier's ENC 1101 class and because of his teaching style and just his overall self I made it a point to take his ENC 1102 course the next semester. He is the reason I decided to drop my blind engineering pursuit to venture into the realm of writing. ENC 1102 had quite a bit of work, but it is relevant to the research assignment.
Basically had 3 projects and sometimes it wasn't very specific on what he was expecting, but that was almost the whole point of the class. I learned a lot about myself and he was very easy to talk to about assignments. He really inspired creativity.
As my first class at UCF Launier made things a lot easier. He is very flexible and funny. Incredibly caring and chill. Totally recommend
Being my first college class ever, Prof. Launier really made me feel comfortable taking this class. He has a great sense of humor, very caring, and makes you feel very involved in the class. He will learn your name by the second class and support you throughout the whole course. His assignments are very manageable. Overall great prof and human.
You do plenty of pointless assignments that take up time and have no relevance to your project. Your grade is based mostly on your project and components of it. He will cancel class 10 minutes before or show up late every time. If you argue that there is too much work he says as a full time student, you should be spending 15 hours a week per class.
Helps outside of class and you can call him anytime. Actually cares about his students but to get an A, you have to do the work he assigns but he is very laid back on the time assignments are due. Would 100% recommend.
I had a terrible time with this class and this professor. I felt that his classes were a waste of time. The homework was the worst. You have to log everything that you do and it's such a hassle. The professor is nice but he always cancels class and he's always busy so I never get his personal help. There is a huge research paper, but no tests.
Not very specific when giving directions for homework then nitpicks and looks for certain things he did not originally ask for. Spends most of class time ranting about one thing and rarely actually teaches. Says he doesn't believe in final grade being based on one project yet the 16 page paper due at the end of the semester is 25% of your grade!!!!
He assigns many assignments that have no relevance to the 16 page research paper final. When there is class, he doesn't really provide any guidance for the paper. I miraculously pulled together a paper and ended with a B. He also asks you to rate him at the end of the semester really well so he can get a raise. Very lenient on late work though.
He barely shows up to class and assigns a lot of homework that is not related to the final research paper. He offers very little guidance and does not tell you what he is looking for and is then very picky when grading.
Professor Launier really cares about his students, and is extremely lenient with due dates. He is also extremely understanding. However, he gives a lot of homework that has nothing to do with the final paper. The first half of the semester was a breeze, but after spring break we had like four papers due week after week.
As a person, he is a caring person and lenient when it comes to extending deadlines, but he assigns way too much work that is supposed to link to the final paper but it does not. He assigns so much that he cannot keep up with his own grading. The second half of the semester he assigns about 3 papers to close together, a MINI paper, then final paper
I took his class during Summer A and it was easy. Weekly video assignments, 3 major assignments, and just a couple heavy readings at the beginning. Work load is fairly light given that its a GWR class.
Professor Launier was great and he really cared about his students. There wasn't much work at all. I took this class during six weeks and it wasn't too bad. Just show up to class and do all of the assingments and you should be good.
