Really nice guy and teaches well. Tests are very fair if not easy. Only flaw: he has some VERY annoying mannerisms. Most notable is asking a question ("what is the square root of 252?") and after about 3 seconds going "ding ding!"

the final exam was easy, if you study.I hate the stupid stats project that we have to do. That's worth 15% of the term and if you don't do it or you fail the project, you fail the course. That is totally unfair. What's up with that, lol?

Not good in asking for help? I strongly disagree! Could be you ask him at the wrong time and doesn't fit your style becuase I know he doesn't answer question straight but will lead you to think.

A nice guy who's enthusiastic about teaching; encourages class participation. Assignments are straightforward and from the book, but the exams, even though their open book and open notes, they are still very difficult.

He is super good at teaching, really easy to understand, the assignments are all straightforward. He is friendly and funny. I cannot find any other statistic teacher who can teach as good as him. I think his midterms are not difficult but may feel rushed.

Absolutly not enough time for exams! Even if you know the material you have no time to think. In class teaching is great. Very approachable in office hours. Notes are really understandable but are just copies of power point slides which would be alot eaiser if they were typed out normally.

Which section are you in? Got his past test and the one I have done yesterday was shorter than his past. For his notes, you can copy and paste to a MS word. He needs to present the notes, definitely he should use ppt.

He's a nice guy and everything. But I don't think his slide notes are that helpful. They are strictly from the text. He is dilligent and very excited about teaching.

Very fun and easy-going teacher. Slide notes can be confusing at times but it takes time to digest. He can get frustrated about some of the easy questions you ask as he provides all the examples you need in class, and it's more up to you to pay full attention. Like the quizzes; test questions ok.

strong chinese accent, stupid jokes, annoying powerpoint notes. but at least he's enthusiastic about teaching stats. i recommend him

He is one of my favorite teacher. Stat is not the easiest class ever but as long as u pay attention and go to class, it's not that bad. his class is fun and he doesn't mind explaining to u till u understand. He's extremely easy going and his class is very relaxing. But of coz, u DO need to put in effort. Highly recommand this teacher.

Too many jokes can be distracting; some of them are inappropriate. e.g., eating hourse meat hamburger, expensive life insurance rates for seniors and the wrong middle finger gesture. Especially the last one disrespected women in the class and was very sad. No need to emphasis how junior the class was, students may be well educated in other fields.

I agreed that he has made many jokes, but that's okay. I don't think he was unrespect to women at all, just that's an example about his auntie. Eating horse meat hamburger wasn't a joke, it's real, go to Hamburg nd try!

I like his style, he is always very helpful and nice to student. Please do not pick on his English, I think a professor teaching Mathematics does not need to have excellent English. His English is good enough for communication & teaching. Overall I like Mr Li, he is a good professor with enthusiasm in teaching.

This professor is not easy, but he definitely is the best professor in Langara, I highly recommend him.

fair teacher although a little unclear when you ask him about what he wants on assignments, projects, etc....if you stick out the course, he rewards you at the end with an easy final that is marked very easily...

hes pretty good at teaching this subject. the course itself is pretty hard, but he explains it well...although with an accent that's sometimes hard to understand. midterms and finals were fair, although they were a bit rushed.

Not easy at all. But several of us got A and A-. You yourself judge it. He wrote it? You'll know he has the time or not.

he is so helpful and nice. One of the best teachers in langara. I highly recommend taking his cl****. He has a great sense of humour and his cl**** always seems so go by so quickly. Exams are not hard if u go to cl**** everyday. I had so much fun with that cl**** thanks u Eugene!

Very nice teacher! He usually clarifies difficult contents of Stats, which helps me understand his class. He likes joking us and I like it. Seems to like Japanese culture, so talk to him if U R Japanese. Take his class if you wanna learn Stat! But you need to prepare yourself ab his class coz it is tough.

"So Random!" Tough course and tough midterms, but Eugene has a passion for his work. Don't buy the textbook, study his notes, and do the assignments (even though they take forever!). You learn a lot and he's very helpful. He also tries to make his lectures interesting and can be funny.. although I'm not sure if he tries to be funny. Overall great.

Eugene knows what he is teaching and is thorough about his expectations. I barely even used or needed the textbook. He doesn't prepare his powerpoints like the ones where you read straight off the page and he also gives very useful assignments. First exam was really easy, second exam was pretty hard. Would definitely recommend taking this teacher!!

Statistics is a dry subject and Eugene is able to turn that around by making jokes in class and makes the class all around comprehensible. He uses his own notes so the textbook is rarely used. I would ultimately recommend Eugene as a teacher because is willing to help the students and is fair.

Turkey and cranberry beeferoni. LOL. Stats is hard to begin with. His exams are quite hard as it requires you to understand what he teaches in class. Do the assignments and review ALL details carefully, even the smallest ones.

Oh, really confusing? Not a fan of him, but for sure not that bad! Took 2 courses with him. 1181 is basic, 2225 is more, build on 1181 and look from different angle and not really denied what my 1181 teacher told me, just up a level.

Not easy! But he absolutely not deny my 1181 prof's materials. Based on 1181 and more. Think about what your elementary school teacher told you, 1+1=2; then your high school teacher said, may not. If in base 2, 1+1 = 10, would you say the high school teacher denys the elemnarty school teacher's material? Recommend to talk to Eugene in person!

You need to pay attetion in class. He uses examples to explain each method and that help you to get a better understanding on the method. But his explaination is vague sometimes.

Eugene rocks. He's HILARIOUS, is meticulous in his teachings, and makes math 'cool'. He uses different approaches to teaching so everyone understands. Some memorable quotes: "Quest-SHUN?" "Easy, eh???!"

He's a really nice person. I got to give him that. But when it comes to his marking style, he isn't an easy marker. Our class average for the mt was 53%.

Hard marker or not, I don't know, but if other classes got average of 73%, 67%, etc, and he has taught this course many many times, should it deduce just some classes with lower standard? Be fair to Eugene!!!

Hard and tough? There are some colleges and universities in XX, you just need to pay and buy the degrees, then that's easy! If you understand his lectures, focus on what he said, listen to what he has seen, no problem of getting an A (may not be A+......)!

Took his class two yrs ago. Remember he said he wanted us to have a solid concept, then of course have to be his way. And remember he said no textbook could cover what he taught us. Also, he excused of his accent too....do we have an accent?He said all these in the first class.......

Stereotypical HK accent aside, he is a decent instructor. He is much more approachable than Michael Lo, since I met both before in the MAC. The course itself require concentration, so I didn't do as well as I expected due to lack of it. Text is not really needed; PPT notes are good enough though I bought it. Drop by his office or MAC for good help.

Eugene is very helpful, and quite contrary to previous comments, his exams are fair and straightforward. The assignments he give make a good review for exams. Sometimes the material is dry, but Eugene's enthusiasm wakes you up. It was difficult in the beginning but I managed to get an A. Study hard and stop complaining! Help out on your group project because apart from being worth a chunk, it prepares you for the exams. Recommended! He's a jolly good fellow! ^^

AWESOME! Best STAT prof you can ever ask for. I had Eugene in the summer and I've never learned so much nor gotten such a high grade before (97%). Just skim the text and go to class and you'll get an A if you try.

Very illogical for the 12/10/11 comment. 1181 is the intro stats, the very first course for ut students, how can you say Eugene is a tough "stats" prof as no comparison can be made unless that one took 1181 twice! 11/24/11 comments is 100% real, she's my friend!

BRUTAL! Extremely hard exams. I'm a straight A student and can't believe how tricky his exams are. He was a really nice guy but I just felt like his exams were meant to screw us over.

Came across this site and read the last comment. Don't mean to show off, but as a real straight A student and got my PhD last summer, Eugene's exams were fair (took all his stats courses and 1174, he hasn't taught this for many years!). As long as you understand the materials, how can they be tricky? Tricky isn't a word for real straight A student!

If you have no background for statistics and are not a smart person, Eugene's class is great for you. His quizzes and exams are not hard(no tricky questions). You will do fine as long as you put some effort into the work. You can take a nap and eat:) if it is in the afternoon.

Eugene is extremely interesting which helps when this is your last class of the day. He's nerdy and cracks nerdy jokes throughout class which makes it fun. He's extremely clear about his expectations. Text isn't mandatory but reading through it really helped me explain the concepts. Go to class, or you'll be lost.

Eugene is awesome :) He explains things well and his tests are not hard as long as you read through the notes.Make sure you UNDERSTAND!Group project may be tough btw. Talk to him if you have any questions. He is very helpful :)

Eugene is very dedicated in teaching statistics and he is very talented in finding different ways to explain his ideas. However, he is not consistent with his PPT slides note and his lecture is jumping off the track. His exams are fair if you really catch what he's explained in class, but if you miss a point, you‘d better ask cos it will be in exam

yes, his exam is hard but u will get a good mark if u attend his class and make notes when he talk some details that are not on the ppt,and that may be the question on the midterm.Comparing to other teacher, I learn alot from his class.

Visited Eugene in June and had a great chat with him. Saw his midterm for current classes, I laughed!!! If mine was this short and easy, I should have an A or even A+ If not enough time, better to triple your effort or review your high school materials.

Eugene is a great prof. I was terrified of taking the class and yes the material is hard, but Eugene makes it so easy to understand. His exams are a bit difficult throughout the semester, but he makes the final exam so easy that it boosts your mark drastically. Just make sure you don't miss a class. If you do, you WILL fall behind.

He is not really that great, but we don't have enough statistical evidence to reject that he is bad - just kidding! Eugene has definitely been one of my most memorable professors at Langara College. He is smart, helpful, and great at teaching; his jokes are pretty funny too. I have a 100 percent confidence level you will love his class! :)

Not too often I see an instructor with such enthusiasm to teach as him. He is very funny, and makes the class engaging. All of the answers for tests, quizzes, and midterms are posted online so students can correct their mistakes. He also provides helpful Power point slides as well as supplementary notes which are critical for passing the semester.

His exams are a bit trickywordy, I dont think thats too fair for students who are ESL or dont have good reading skills as the wording throws you off the question even though you know how to apply the concepts learned. Make sure you know how to find outliers both ways IQR and Z score read questions carefully thx Eugene you are best!

Eugene wrote WT on all my exams :( But I still love him

This was my first math course in about 6 years so I had no idea what I was going into and it was a requirement for transfer. Eugene is extremely helpful and straightforward for what he wanted from his students and what to expect. Exams were hard so study hard. Also there is a group project, be wreary of others.

he was so great at explaining things. As long as you pay attention, you will get good mark. His exams was a bit tough, but you can really learn a lot if you review the midterm. He is willing to answer any kind of questions ^^. I would recommend taking his class.

I've had Eugene for both Stat 1181 and Stat 2225. I love Eugene because he actually explains concepts really well but his test are pretty hard. Study hard for his midterms if you want to do well. Class Avgs for both midterms for both classes are usually 55-65%. Finals are much easier though for his courses. Overall I recommend taking Eugene !

I only got B in 1181 due to the horrible prof; but with Eugene, I managed to get an A. Lectures are crystal clear, and he's willing to help and explain again to you if you don't understand. 2 midterms, 5 assignments (5%), 1 group project (10%). Midterms and finals are do-able if you studied well and listened in class. Recommended teacher!

Confusing and crystal clear? We, seven, took Eugene's 1181 & 2225. Five said excellent; another said average. Simply because we five, including myself, attended classes regularly and DIDN'T miss any class, also focused on what Eugene told us in class, and solid Math and Stat 1181. If got C+ or lower in 1181, retake it before taking 2225!

I met this prof's at least two Friday mornings during his office hrs for around one hr in asking him the questions. He explained every question clearly. The other one didn't say when he asked eugene, during his lunch break or the one-hr break in between two classes? Be considerate, don't be bossy!

Fair exams. I enjoyed his lectures as he often makes jokes relevant to the material, but holidays during the Summer rushed our class. Good at explaining concepts in simple terms. Always willing to help during office hours. However, do not expect him to directly give you the answer if you have not put in any effort into finding the answer yourself!

Can deeply understand what voluntary response sampling is!!! If you don't, ask Eugene! Why there isn't fair comment but only the friend below. Have lost 2 Mondays (holidays) and this is a week time. The course is for 13 weeks, so rush is expected! No one said Eugene even finished the materials, gave us an extra session for review!

Eugene is super awesome guy. He is really helpful, lectures are great. He went into deep with topics, so it is easy to understand. Dont miss the classes. He tells a lot of important things in the class, which are not on slides. So, without attending the class, it could be difficult to pass. Overall, I enjoyed his classes a lot. He is hilarious.

No need textbook, all from his slides. He doesnt care about our attendances, but if you skip class many times, absolutely you will fail. This is a tough course, man!
