this guy is the man. was a cop, hates the "school" aspect of things so its a good setup, relates things to experiences and skips all the boring stuff in the book. and hes real funny.
One of the best Professors at JJ. I would take any class he teaches!! If you pay attention and do your work, you will have no problems. Interesting stories about his very extensive career.
Pretty amazing background about this Prof. Easily veers of topic for 45 min a class. Easy tests, show up to class, pretend to be alive and you pass.

An overall easy Professor as compared to some of the other CJ professors at John Jay. Show up on time as a few questions and do the paper and you'll earn an easy A or B.

No one should leave John Jay without taking him. Hates the idea of school, runs a very lax but good class. Has tons of experience and a great sense of humor. Show up all time and write a good paper and you'll get a good grade.

Excellent professor, really knows his stuff.
He was the best professor I had. Very smart guy. I have seen him on TV before. His class is interesting, a little boring if your not going to be a police officer, but he gives out good advice. He is funny and very fair. Take him you wont regret it.
Overall an excellent professor especially if you are considering becoming one of NY's Finest. Great professor that teaches from experience.
Prof. O'Donnell is an excellent professor. I am currently a grad student, but felt the need to post info about him. He is not a simpleton; he challenges, and is to the point. I have been very encouraged by him, and he is one of the reasons that I decided to go to grad school. Fair grader!

This guy is obnoxious. He is rude and changed his mind about requirements all semester long. He reads from the text and offers no insight into any of the material. Gives you a review sheet for an exam and then puts very little of the review material on the exam. Avoid him !!!!!!

The Professor reading from the book all semester is not only boring but is not productive. He sucks and knows it by the reactions of the students. He then gets mad that he sucks and starts putting the students down. He even went as far as marking people absent when they were not. BEWARE !!

Does allow females to participate as much as males. Disagrees with students constantly, nasty attitude toward students overall. Does not teach,reads from book.
This guy was pretty bad and I got an A in the class. He reads from the book literally and doesn't teach anything. This is self study in pure form. If you need someone who will TEACH find someone else. He gives midterm and final plus writing assignment that you never get back. Really nasty to students and contradicts verything he says. STAY AWAY !
Professor O'Donnell Is an excellent professor. His classes are interesting, but students have to participate. Its great because when he teaches, you are able to determine that he knows the topic extremely well. Very well experience and a very smart individual. Take his class, just read the book and you will pass. A++

This teacher is great. He actually knows what's going on in the world. And for people, who are actually interested in what's going on out there, this class is GREAT. O'Donnell is one of John Jay"s best teachers. If you can't handle an occassional tangent, get out of college. This guy is a great educator.
He does not teach the purpose of the class. Only good for talking about the "real world" which is ok. You really don't learn anything in his class. Does tell you EVERYTHING that is on midterm/final. He is an easy A, so take him for that A. If you want to learn something, then he will not teach the purpose of the class.
Took him for Police Science 207. EASY A+ if you buy the book. I passed with a C and no book. Extremely Boring class. Mid-term and final. Multiple choice and 2 essays. save ur absents days for the last weeks of class. I came to class 30 mins before class ended b/c he takes attendance at end of class :-)

This guy is talkative, chatty, etc. He doesn't give the class any structure..and the general sentiment is that we aint learning.
EASY CLASS. No structure. No learning. Just talks about how organizations are poorly run, and it's quite ironic when he preaches about schools and classes and students just getting by withoutlearning. We aren't learning either! Just shootin the breeze. Don't take him if you want to learn something or feel challenged.
Funny guy at times. Doesn't teach a damn thing. Only talks about current events and things like that. He does tell you everything that will be on the midterm and final. Do not take this class if you want to learn, and do not take this class you if get easily irritated by people that talk too much about irrelevant things.

He reads you the friggin book the whole class with the exception of what others have been saying about him and the latest news. He preaches how this is John Jay COLLEGE not John Jay HIGH, but he is no man of his word. He is quite irritating and you shouldn't take him. His tests would be easier if he knew how to teach the material and not read it.
This prof. has a real problem with keeping to one topic when talking. He is a semi- easy grader and teaches right out of the book. You NEED the text for this course. One paper due and 2 tests are Mult. Choice (final & midterm).He's very opinionated and tends to repeat himself a bit. He's funny time to time but gets real serious during testing days.

Rleaxed easy going guy, one of my favorite professors out there.
He is a really nice guy and extremely knowledgable if you get to talk to him outside of class. During class he just opens the book and reads from it, very boring. His tests are easy, he only has a midterm and a final and a paper that can't hurt your grade. He's ok, if you don't want to read a lot outside of class take someone else.

The worst proff ever........ do not take him.... he will kill your GPA...EVEN IF YOU STUDY... his lectures have nothing to do with the class... TRUST ME ...YOU WILL HATE HIM FOREVER
The class is overall easy but it sucks! The professor gives lectures by reading the textbook. Attendance is not required. One paper, two exams are the only thing you gotta worry about. He gives extra credit too by just showing up to some particular meeting. The prof said with my class, its boring. He said he will try to use powerpoint in next class

let me give you a run down on his day to day class. He comes in late with a book and newspaper in one hand and a diet pepsi in another and when we walks in always says, "hello future law enforcement leaders of america, sorry I'm here". Then he goes on and on about how he was a cop and how he actually reads not like John Jay students! did not learn!

i was really interested to learn in his class, but this guy is completly useless, u have to read da textbook to learn, n his tests forget about it, i think he types da questions then uses the microsoft thesaurus because i had not 1 clue on what the question was about, i think his questions are fragments, oh yeah he just rambles on in **** stuff

GREAT PROFESSOR!!!Spends most classes talking about past experiences, but you'll learn a lot from him. Just show up every time, and look lively. Some of the questions on the tests are straight fm the book, so go over the review sheet carefully. He has very GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR. YOU'LL LOVE HIS CLASS.

I watched this professor on Anderson 360. He was apalling! He said 5 Birmingham, Alabama officers were justified in beating an unconcious man. What shame that he is teaching criminal justice which is my major! The video is very clear there was no resistance at all at any point after the man was thrown like a ragdoll from a rolling minivan. Apalling
He is one of the worst professors at John Jay. All he does is read out of the book. His test questions are random. He doesn't even read your exam essays, he gives a random grade. He doesn't even ready final papers. I took his final yesterday, he collected final papers on yesterday and today he already gave out grades. Fast reader aint he... -_-

He's very smart, but not a great teacher. However, what do you guys want? I am pretty sure it says "COLLEGE" on the JJ Building. So don't expect that someone is going to do any work for you. You gotta read by yourself. He does digress a lot, and he even admits to that. The class was ok, the book was interesting with good case examples.

I think google should be his textbook bc he googles EVERYTHING! the tests includes two essays he gives u the topic, multiple choice and true false but his choices could all be the answer. the final paper forget it, he is no help and will try to shut u down before u start to ask a question. Do not take this Professor he is the worst you do not learn you have no idea whats going on stay clear he is ignorant and like the person said above me googles everything with his name in it. You will not do good, I have to the book and still don't know what's going on

This is the WORST professor I've ever had in the history of college. HE DOESN'T TEACH WHATSOEVER. All he did is show youtube clips like we're idiots. I worked my ass off writing a 6 page term paper that he doesn't even read. I got a 92 on the midterm and studied my ass off for the final. I ended up with an average B+ instead of a ****ing A.
I picked this class because of the original professor. I got him as a sub. The man is a MORON. I didn't learn anything at all, and he spent most classes googling dead bodies and literally the sound of pages turning. I like easy A classes too, but this was pure torture. It was a complete waste of time.

This class is not as bad as the person below me is saying. He is an accessible guy.Talk to him if you feel like you're not learning.He requires you to read the book. Most dont read it and then get bad grades. He reviews 4 exams so read the book on the topics he gives and you're set. He talks about current events too which promotes good discussion.
He is very kool guy. You will def learn something coming out of this class. You hav four exams this includes the final and midterm and he drops the lowest one! GREAT PROFFESOR. Published in the Wall Street Journal Weekly pretty much. On news shows all the time. Kinda strays from law and talks about real world stuff a lot but i found it interesting. midterm and final if u show up you will do fine. I found myself wanting more time with him towards the end. Best professor I've had in my first semester. He's pretty funny and keeps the class lively. For those complaining about the professor, they obviously either received a poor grade or couldnt catch up. As long as you do well on your quizzes and your paper, you'll be fine. Quick tip, yes he does ramble on but its based on REAL experiences
Prof with real world knowledge. Has tons of experience in law. Must take if studying law. Will explain everything in layman's terms. Reviews before every class so you can remember what is what. Overall one of the best prof at JJay. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Wish he taught more courses. He's all about learning and not school rules!

Doesn't exactly "teach", but he is quite amusing to listen to. There is a midterm and an optional final, and he will do a thorough review between both tests. There is also a paper due at the end of the semester (very easy). No need to take notes, just be sure to listen to him every once in a while :)

What a terrible teacher! Some may say this is college and no one is going to be holding your hand, but this guy takes it to another level. I have never had a more lazier professor in my life. Notes consist of him copy and pasting random articles into 100 pages of notes. Not clear at all, doesn't help at all, doesn't read the essays. Who hired him
One of the best professors I have had. Very funny and do not need to take a lot of notes. Reviews thoroughly before each exam. The final is optional if you did not do well on the past tests

As a teacher, respect your students work is a most! he gives us topics on the exam to prepare, we all prepaared very hard but he did not even read our exam, just give whatever grade he wants! that is so not fair! and added the total number wrong all the time, but he does not care

Very down to earth and realistic when he comes to teaching. Pretty stern about attendance so make sure you show up. The book is not required cause he provides questions that you can look up in advance. Doesn't teach from powerpoints or books, more from his personal experience and self-knowledge. If you want an easy A, this is the class to take but mostly you just sit in class and watch videos from youtube. He is always googling stuff. I actually wanted to learn something in class. All we did was watch movies. I can do that at home. He was an easy A though.

Its an easy A though. 2 exams, one paper and you get 5 absences.

If you are those student who doesn't like to do work than you must take him. He is cool and funny. Only 2 exam throughout the semester. He play videos and talk about his own experience. no homework or class assignment. You don't have to worry about his class.
Easiest class I've taken so far. Show up and fake pay attention and listen. The textbook is sort of needed but you can survive without it. His grading is very lenient and extremely fair. One research paper, midterm and final.

I took him my freshman year and honestly he was such a bs class. I had him after community hour and I swear almost everyone fell asleep. You do not have to take notes literally played games in his class. He talks a lot and gets off topic but if you want an easy A this is the class he answers email very quickly but sucks at blackboard.
I don't wanna say he is not nice but if you want to learn something about LAW then do not take his class. He just talks too much but out of the topic. Also, give student very hard time without any reason. He is a tough grader. Even though u submit everything on time still u will not get A.

He's clear on his grading system, gives great feedback (that way you know where you stand), gives handouts as to what to read, really amazing professor. Just do the best that you can on the assignments and paper, you'll be fine.
THIS PROFESSOR IS THE WORSE. EXAM AND ESSAYS AFTER ESSAYS. EVERY 2 DAYS IS A EXAM. YOU WILL NOT LEARN ANYTHING IN THIS CLASS. ALL HE WILL MAKE YOU DO IS READ AND DO EXAMS.
