I love when he gets students to come to the front of the class and act out scenes from the Roman Empire days (lance and all). He's a great teacher, his method holds your interest.

He is an excellent teacher, very open to questions. (he breaks his lecture about every 10 minutes to ask for questions from the students.) He knows his stuff, the historical scenes he acts out (with volunteers from the class) are fun and informative.

The best history teacher you will ever take. He knows everything and every date by heart. Very very knowledgable. Will answer all your questions. Very entertaining with the class involved in acting out scenes from rome, etc.

He kind of reminds me of a dinosaur cuz he's very slow and his voice is monotone.Acts stuff out,which is the highlight of any day,but he can put you to sleep.Tests are off practically evrythng in class,but you have 2 keep up on the notes...Or ur screwed!

at first i was worried his voice would put me to sleep, but he is funny and gets you involved. tests are SO easy, just take good notes and study them for the test and you will be fine! my mom had him 30 years ago and he was even cool then

Exam is not hard, but needs lots of readings. His behavior is sometimes a little bit odd and funny. Bad hand writings, and he always speaks by mumbling. That's the problem.

Very easy teacher, a lot of fun. He makes it easy to remember things he teaches. He can be boring but his tests are easy!! Take good notes and you won't even have to read the book. I took two of his classes, he is easy.

Larson is THE MAN! Hes funny, entertaining, and original... the only downsides to him are his handwriting skills ( very hard to read sometimes ) and hes a little short of hearing... But other then that, this guy is one of the best history teachers ive ever had.

Very good teacher. Easy going, all throughout my school years, I hated history, and still do. But this class gave me a "B" grade, which was the highest grade I got for history. I suggest taking it with him, good teacher, explains everything well.

he's a great teacher. all you need to do is take good notes, and you wont have to buy the book. the multiple choice tests can be difficult, but the short answer questions are easy.. he's a funny guy.. but only downside is monotone voice and handwriting. but still a great teacher

Love this class. He has a lot of interesting stories to tell and has a funny way of "acting" out history. If you need to fill the requirement, take him. Also, a pretty funny guy, makes the class interesting.

He's super cool, very funny...I showed up every day, took notes, barely read the book, clear lectures, but when the tests for me were random. I don't know where he got the questions from. Still I did okay. He curves, gives extra credit. Most of all he keep you awake. :) I'd take him again.

i loved this teacher! not only are his lectures interesting but every once in a while he shakes things up by having mini reenactments in the classroom with volunteers. His tests are pretty easy too, all MCQs with a couple of short essay questions that are a cakewalk.I highly recommend him!!

Funny teacher and fun class. You don't even have to buy the book. All the test questions are in the lectures that he gives, so make sure good notes are taken.

The absolute BEST teacher at Pierce. I took him twice I got an A both times. M.C test which are easy if you have notes and read the chapters in the book. YOU MUST TAKE HIM,If you want to get a good grade in History.

He's my favorite professor of all time. I took him 3 times and loved every class. He's an excellent communicator and his lectures are very clear and entertaining. He's a great guy who truly cares about his students and enjoys teaching, and his knowledge of history is astounding. I wish my professors at UCLA were as good as Professor Larson.

Great professor. Makes lectures fun with some re-enactions. Tests are somewhat difficult, but make sure you do the extra credit, come to class everyday and he'll give you the A if you're really borderline, show some effort in coming to class, and participate.

He can't hear well so speak loudly to him. Makes history as interesting as possible. There are 2 midterms and the final (half m/c & half id.). Optional 3 writing assignments (If you don't do them then you will drop one full letter grade!) Offers extra credit. All in all, a great class! I got an A!

That whole "gut the text and read on what we talk about in class" is a bunch of crap. Either that or I didn't pay attention enough. I don't know. He's a good and fair teacher but the tests are pretty hard if you just go on lectures. You have to read and hope you're lucky enough what you read is on the test. It's also hard to stay awake in there.

I took him last Spring and it was a great class. He made the class interesting and fun with his silly laugh and outburts. Sometimes to explain a concept he would dramatically act it out also. Go to class, take lots of notes, read the sections talked about during lecture, do the four summaries, ace the easy tests, and you'll get an A.

I liked this teacher so much I took him twice! He has a voice that he likes to brag about, and it really does make the class more interesting. The tests are based completely on the notes you take in class, you don't really nead the book. Very easy, and a very nice guy!

Mr. Larson is a very nice guy. He is passionate about his subject and knows everything about it. Sis tests are kinda hard but if you read the book and come to class you'll do well. His tone of voice is kinda slow and you have to speak loud so he'll hear you. DO NOT LEAVE AT BREAK OR IN MIDDLE OF CLASS he gets very mad. very interesting lectures.

A very knowledgable instructor. Exams are easy if you study the notes AND the text. ID's portion of exam comes from notes and multiple choice comes from text. Really nice guy, always prepared. He makes a boring subject pretty interesting.

Great teacher, very knowledgable, very respectable, and very funny. When taking a history class you really need to have some interest in the topics, or else you'll become bored. His tests are a little hard. Some of the questions on the test are not covered in lectures. However, if you follow the lectures and read the book you will get an A.

Videos are stupid as hell and old...one of the vids has this 1970's guy in this ugly ass orange suit talking and boring the**** out of you. Love Prof. Larson. He is an awesome teacher. He may talk slow but he is an execellant storyteller. Quizzes are easy Multiple choice questions and additional writing part to the test (really easy). Just remember certain people and dates for the tests. You'll do fine. He is the Best.

Larson is a nice old guy who can't hear. He is very boring in lectures, gives no preparation for the tests (which are mult/choice and very difficult). It seems like nothing u study from notes or book is on test. very hard. so far ive had a B on all tests but i studied sooo much. i don't recomend his class.

TAKE HIM. As long as you take good notes, you'll get the class. His lectures in the class are like a story. Just take good notes. IF YOU CAN TAKE NOTES AND READ YOUR OWN WRITING YOU"LL GET AN A. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT TOO.

Love this class. He's such a great storyteller. This class starts off with the 1600's-1900's West Civilization II. His tests are easy. I also had him for History (1) and I still think he's the best history teacher. :)

He's very understanding. Gave ma an INC as I was ill. Easy going joker. Better 2 Sit in front as he's softspoken. as long as u take good notes& read text, u can get an A.he's a cool old guy. has a great sense of humor. i luv him. one of the best profs i've had so far. the mcq part is tricky but essays are easy.

He's a very good teacher, who knows history by heart. A little boring in the beginning, but then u get used to his lecturing style and its actually fun. No real need to read the book if u take good notes. I never even opened the book and got an A. Everything thats on the tests is from the notes. Attendance is a must, if u miss something ull b lost.

Mr. Larson is a great teacher. Take lots of notes to keep up. He illustrates things pretty well and keeps it interesting. He was a very easy test grader. He even gave you points for putting your name and the date on your test. Great teacher! Take him. (Not much H.W. either)

his writing looks like another language and the book he had us buy has NOTHING to do w/what he's teaching. he teaches about ancient rome but the book is about europe. the only thing you have to go on is your notes which would be fine if his lectures were followable. the last test only one person got an A and she said its cuz her bf took the class

Exam is a mix of 40 multiple choice questions and 10 short answers. He gives about 4 extra credit work. Exam is also a mix from lectures, study guide, and textbook. He can control the class well. You also have to do 4 mandatory one page papers for each section you cover in history. He drops your lowest grade (except the final).

Exams are 40 Multiple choice and 10 IDs. Need to read the textbook (workbook helps too) to answer the 40 multiple choice. The class lectures will help answer the 10 IDs.

I highly recommend this wonderful and kind gentleman. He does his very best to connect with the students and help them as much as possible. Props are common in his lectures, it‘s great. Just make sure you come to class every time because the 3 to 4 tests are based on them, not really the book. He even gives extra credit to help you out.

professor larson is totally awesome! lovedddd his class! took it during winter session. had 3 exams, 4 extra credits, and 3 summary reports for each section. all very easy. if you're lazy, you will fail. lots of information and lots to memorize but i loved it. makes class interesting. so easy to earn at least a B. TAKE HIMMMMMMMM. I had absolutely no interest in history and this man happened to open the door for me. His lectures were long since i took him for the winter session, and yet he manages to keep it fun and educational the ENTIRE TIME. He is funny. Everyone recommended him to me, and now i feel i must recommend him to everyone i cross paths with. =)

One of the most intelligent professors I have ever taken. Most of the time he lectures without any notes. He can answer any question and explain with clarity any topic. Exams are 40 multiple choice and 10 "fill-ins" where you briefly describe a particular person/place/event/etc. Some extra credit is given. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

4 tests. Each 1 has 2 parts.40 mult. choice quest. Each one is worth 4 points and 10 fill in terms.explain what/where/when etc. each 1 is worth a max of 4 points. for each section you need to write about a movie that is based on the time teached (not in class) you can do on troy, gladiator and more. Final exam includes an essay. gives easy EC(4)

His hand writing is hard to understand. He is a funny teacher and extremely nice. His multiple choice questions are kind of hard. You need to remember a lot of information for the tests. He gives Extra credit that is SUPER easy.. you just need to print from the interent. It's not writing papers or something like that.

On final u have 2 options. you can either do the mul. choice and fill in's or 2 essay questions (gives in advance) and there are 2 parts. you need to write 1 essay from each part, but on the paper he gives in advance there are about 5-6 quest. and on the final he chooses 3 from each part so you dont know which ones will show up. he also gives e.c

took him in Winter.i had 3 exams,30 Multiple choice question,and 10 terms to define.i got 2c's an a B.not sure how i did on the final,but got an A in the class.final is your decision of either an exam like the previous ones,or answering 2 essay questions,(he gives you a list of 6 possible essay questions,and picks 2 on the day of the final)

I took this class during summer, and it was a lot of work! But thankfully, Prof. Larson made it easy. He's funny, and is happy to help with all types of questions. He even had students to re-enactments of the battle of troy! The tests are kind of hard, but the hwk & XC is easy. I would definitely take Prof. Larson again :)

His test are hard but his extra credits are EASY!!!!!!! u must attend class and read the textbook in order to pass the tests. drops the lowest test score. He hates it when students leave his class during lecture. Ur the best larson!!

Awesome professor, seems to know everything including dates from the back of his head. Has a great sense of humor and makes learning about history really fun. Never goes off tangents. He seems to write in another language, but you'll get used to it haha. He drops your lowest test score, not including the final. This man should be at a University.

he is awesome!!!take hime!!! i missed quite a few classes, but suggest YOU attend.grades on a huge curve and gives tons of etra credit.very lenient with turning h.w. i got a B!!! and i didn't have to work that hard for. tricky tests just scan over the book as well as the notes. love hime, super cool and funny.

Probably the best professor here, i mean this guy knows his stuff. his class flows well because he makes the material sound 100x more intresting. funny dude and fair guy as well. take it if you want to learn lots, get an easy grade, and are looking for a good professor

good teacher. took him over winter and he goes over a lot of material so you should go to class everyday. has a monotone voice but still manages to keep it interesting. tests are not too hard and you have extra credit assignments. would def. recommend :)

Great teacher! Keeps you entertained while learning. Attendance isn't completely mandatory, but people show up just to hear the lecture. The whole semester not 1 person left early,he's that interesting!He's very knowledable and willing to help.Show up to class and pay attention,and you'll be fine!No book necessary! Don't miss out,he's really great!

If this class was not 3 hours long, I probably would have enjoyed it more than I did. But regardless, Professor Larson is great. Multiple choice tests are hard but essays are easy. He occasionally brings photos, paintings, and videos to keep people interested. And two or three times, he'll spice things up with brief impersonations. Lots of fun.

love this guy. he really does try to make it interesting, but the class is still boring. get the study guide, it helps big time on his tests. you dont need the book. do all the extra credit and there's a paragraph due every section. very easy a if you do all that.

The best professor ever! I didn't like history before I took his class. He makes even the most boring parts of history sound like a Hollywood movie. Highly recommend him! If you miss a class, he lets you do an easy make-up like an article or something. Very interesting, highly knowdgelable. I'd love to take more of his classes.

great great teacher!! lectures are really interesting and not at all boring. even the boring part of history sounds fun. book is optional, really depends on the student whether you needed or not cuz taking god notes can get you an A so is attendance is necessary. Overall a great experinece and really fun class.

Best professor at Pierce, bar none - I dare you to find better. He's been doing this for so long, he doesn't even have any lecture notes to fall back on - everything including dates and periods come from his head. Book is not really necessary, just take good notes. Drops your lowest test and offers extra credit, and his lectures aren't boring.

Wow, what an amazing teacher. Personally I enjoy history and Mr. Larson was the best teacher to teach this course. He explains things well and makes it interesting. I always looked forward to going to class. Im even taking history 2 with him just because he is that good of a teacher.

Has a passion for what he does. Very enthusiastic and funny as hell. You will learn from him through his interesting stories. I hardly ever used the book and got an A. Just go to class, be ready to hear a story, take notes on it & that's what the tests will be on. Prof Larson rules!!

Best history prof ever! you dont even need the book for class as long as you take good notes. Gives a bunch of extra credit, and the "essays" are single paragraphs are about whatev that section of the course is about. Highly recommend, thins class is awesome!

I love being in this class. He has hearing aids so when he asks question in class you need to speak up. Gives extra credit and these small side projects. Has a sense humor which doesn't make it too boring but I must warn you he has somewhat of a monotonous voice and has pretty bad writing so if you can't handle that then take a different teacher.

Speaks softly and writing is almost illegible, however he is extremely passionate about the subject. Extremely knowledgeable with the time line of historic events, all from memory. Tries to make class interesting by showing slide shows sometimes. Tests are multiple choice and 10 ID (person, place, event). Offers a lot of extra credit to help!

Makes History interesting and fun. Be sure to sit near the front though, as he tends to speak in a hush voice and has an automatic AC in his room. He knows the subject well, lectures all from memory. Gives you two optional essays for the 3rd Test & final, but gives you a heads up on what they will be about. Attend every day & take good notes!

Just finished history 1. Mr. Larson is extremely knowledgeable and his lectures are fun and informative. He is also very funny. You need to go to class and do the study guide (if not the reading too) to get an A. The best thing about Mr. Larson is that he is on your side; he wants to see you succeed. He is a great guy, you won't regret taking him.

Simply the best history professor at Pierce - bar none. I'm at UCLA right now, and none of these so called prestigious professors are even on Larson's level in terms of teaching style and quality, imo. Don't buy the book, take REALLY GOOD notes, do all the extra credit. Easy A in the class AND you learn a lot of interesting facts. Yes yes yes yes

Great teacher. I don't particularly enjoy history, it's just not my thing, but he made it fun. Gets the class involved, really wants you to succeed. Always there to help and answer any questions. Take lots of notes, the lectures are important. Attendance is important if you want to pass, since he goes over a lot in one lecture. Awesome teacher.

I took his classes in history survey.. Was it boring? Yes. Is he a bad instructor? No. Did I feel challenged? Absolutely not. Like the other post says, it is mostly "storytime", and you feel like you could have used that for studying something important. Is it easy? I dunno. I just remember feeling rather bored, and unmotivated. Try another GE!

The reason I've gone back to being a history major! He lectures from memory and makes the stories very interesting. Assignments are quite easy too. Just be warned though that he does speak in a super hushed, almost monotone voice so try to sit in the front and away from the AC... He also uses hearing aids so be sure to speak up when you answer.

Larson is a really nice, smart and lenient guy. He speaks very softly so it is a MUST to sit in front. 3 exams and a final-one exam gets dropped. Take GOOD notes and study them thoroughly and you should do fine on tests. although having the textbook will help u out on tests, it isn't totally necessary and its feasible to get an A without it.

Imagine a class where an old guy comes in late to mumble a few stories and you can score an A without ever buying a book. You don't have to worry about cheating during tests because he doesn't care.

Professor Larson is a walking textbook, and his lectures are all from memorization. He is a great professor and passionate for his craft. I highly recommend him, you don't have to buy the textbook to get an A but it helps. He is easy as long as you go to lecture and seat in the 1st 2 rows has a soft voice. 3 exam 1 dropped and a final. Take him.

never read the textbook or the study guide. Come to class & take notes & LISTEN. exams - 2 parts - multiple choice (hard) & identifications (easy). on the final - do the exam cos he gives the questions in advance. do all the extra creds. i failed my 1st test, got lowC's for the other 2. did the essay for the final & all the extra credits. got a B:)

He's a great professor and really knows his stuff. 3 tests and a final, and drops the lowest test. The tests are fairly easy. A's and B's are very achievable as long as you pay attention and study a little. The class does get very boring though, its all lecture. There are a few EC opportunities.Defintely recommend him, but you'll be bored to tears

Fairly easy class. I did NOT use the E-book he requires, but definitely buy it because there are quizzes in there, that are really helpful to prepare you for your exams. Sit in the front, he can't hear that well and sometimes speaks in a low tone.Personally, i would recommend either recording his lectures or taking really good notes

This professor not only inspires you to learn history, but is in my opinion the best teacher at Pierce College. That is saying a lot because Pierce has some very good, dedicate instructors. If you work hard and show up to class you will learn much that will be useful in life, and at a 4 year college. The guy is the jewel of Pierce College!

This man is so brilliant. You can tell how genuinely caring he is and what a great educator he is within moments of meeting him. He's not easy but you will learn. He doesn't use a book to lecture, but he posts terms you should understand for the tests.

Does what an instructor is supposed to, inspires his students. Speak loudly to him, this vet has hearing loss. Great professor, funny, thorough, all lectures are from memory, easy work load. Make sure to do the reading and study key terms and not so much the lecture notes; huge chunk of test grade comes from defining terms and people. A good man.

Professor Larson earned a PhD from UCLA and served as a marine, yet he's one of the most humble people I've ever encountered. He's utterly brilliant and gives amazing lectures that foster insight while avoiding unnecessary details; four multiple choice & short answer exams including the final, lowest grade dropped. No real essays required. Amazing.

winter session - loved his class. The exams were from the material of the lectures, as long as you show up and take notes you're fine. 3 exams: 50 multiple choices + 10 descriptive IDs (you choose 10 from the provided 20). No real paper needed. !!EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES!! A walking textbook. Ask him anything, answers off the top of his head. 3

Professor Larsen is the best! He's so brilliant; the way he teaches feels like he synthesized several textbooks and then delivers a fully condensed and comprehensive yet understandable lecture. Also I think he was cute xD I'm an English major and I like poetic guys, I don't know xd I would take him for all my GE courses if I could!

Professor Larson is great! Has 46 years of teaching experience and knows the subject like the back of his hand. Lots of lecturing but it was very interesting and enlightening. Tests were pretty tough but I would consistently get A- on them. You have to know about 40 terms and you get tested on around 10 per section. History 1 is a great class.

Larson is one of the only professors I've taken that can deliver a 2.5 hour long lecture without looking at notes and without boring you to death. Didn't need the textbook/disc as every test was pretty much lecture material. Only 3 tests and a final and he drops your lowest test outside of the final. No homework, just a short summary after tests.

Prof. Larson is with Mc Millan one of the best history professors at Pierce. English is my second language and it was a little hard to understand prof. Larson's low voice, he speaks fast too. But, he's very approachable, very sweet, very passionate and extremely knowledable about history, he made me love history!!

This is my second history class with prof. Larson and he's a gem, he's awesome. Though he speaks softly, it's worth listening (and recording if possible) to his long lectures because he gives a lot of valued information. He's easy grader, very sweet, humble professor who wants you to learn. Take advantage of him while he's at Pierce.

Professor Larson is a caring professor, i took history 01 over the summer and it was fun class. i learned a lot from his course. a lot of studying and learning, memorizing time periods is a must. gives extra credit, however sometimes notes on board are unreadable and speaks very soft but great professor, i would definitely take his class again.

Maybe in his prime he was a great teacher, but no more. He is soft spoken and hard of hearing. He uses no visual aids; he will sit on his stool and talk for three hours. Incredibly hard to pay attention to. He writes the occasional note on the board, but it is more akin to a doctor's signature. Do not take his class unless you are super passionate.

Original structure for this class had to shift due to COVID-19, became an online course. Be aware prof. is not too tech savvy just in case classes continue to be online. Dont need the textbook just study lecture notes. Grades based on 4 simple 1-2 page papers, 4 exams. Lenient with grading. Very caring and sweet. Easy A class.

Professor Larson is a great Professor he does assigned lactures. But if you pay attention to them you will be fine. He also gives lectures notes that are really really really helpful on the test all the aswer are on those notes. But his lectures are about 50 min to 1 hours long so manage your time

Easy class, we didn't receive any assignments until week 3. he is not tech-savvy, so none of his assignments show up in the to-do section of Canvas. None of his assignments has a description because he likes to tell you in the announcements section of his canvas. He is very cocky when asked questions so only email him if you need to.

Disappointed with this class. No regular work, just 10 paragraphs and 2 essays every few weeks, due in 3 days. Grading is super harsh, with no chance to recover. Teacher is rude when asked for help. The assignments are unclear. As a straight-A student, I regret taking this class—it feels rushed, stressful, and not a real learning experience.
