Very interesting, entertaining man. Tells great stories and teaches well, too. Open book, open note tests.
you are not going to get a good grade until you write him a dictionary size answer!
he's pretty good... lotsa note taking though =P the best thing is that his exams are all open book. bad thing about that is his exams are all essays so you really need to know your stuff. i only got a B in that class. *bows head down in shame*
Very knowledgable. His tests are open book and open note, but he is the perfect example of a teacher who marks an answer wrong because Its not what I was looking for . He is a jerk. In the end, you don't learn much, and get a lower grade.
The tests are open book, but i suggest you study anyway, because his questions are tougher than they look. Also, try to get on his good side. Might help.
Very easy!!
Very intersting teacher. Makes economics interesting with real-world examples. Tests are tough even though they are open book, open note. One of the best professors at Baruch.
So fas so good... He is not a bad professor
Extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the Business field. Very clear and intelligent speaker. Exams are essay questions but are given DAYS in ADVANCED! Challenging, but the pay-off is worth it. You will actually learn something in his class. Easy A!
easy class. make sure to write out the answer for the questions before the actuall test time.
A great prof. He explaines things that he used while working. He knows stuff VERY well. Can answer any questions. Open-book exams.
Professor Sherman is a good professor who at times can be boring. There are two open-books exams which the answers will come straight from your notes. There is no need to read the textbook.
Toss up. Great guy, interesting class BUT, tests are literally COMPLETELY out of his notes. Write anything he didn't speak in class and it's wrong. Take good notes, easy A
He is very professional and a disciplinarian, which is very good. His lecture could be boring at times, but if you take good notes and tape his lecture you should get an "A." He tells you what is going to be on exam and it is open book.
Lectures may be a bit boring but tests are very easy - also, if you're never absent from his class, he exempts you from the final!! been doing this for a few years but apparently not too many kids know since they're always absent, so don't be absent!
Great professor. If the topic interests you then his lectures will not bore you. He knows the material well and has been in the profession for a long time. Do not be absent from his class because he raises your grade by half a grade for perfect attendance
He has a terrible personality and is not eager to help students, he tests are a joke. If you want to learn how to be a speedy writer take him.
He thinks that he knows everything and he is a strict and hard grader. He gives essay exams while all the other eco 1002 professors give MC exam. He decides on how many points to give you since it is ESSAY exams.
Good Professor. Gives lots of A's. Tests are essay and LONG! Your hand will tremble afterwards, but he gives test questions out beforehand. TESTS based on NOTES. Write down almost everything he says. It'll be on the test.
He knows his stuff. Relatively easy class. Exams come right our of his class notes. Open book/notes exams but make sure u use the class notes. 1st exam i used class notes, got a, 2nd used book, got a b. write everything downa nd ull do well. gives extra credits but somewhat boring in class.
Great professor. Knows a lot about the material an dhow it is applied. He has been there and done that, so if you really want to know how things work in the real word, take him. His tests borde ron easy... take good notes and write down what he says and you will be fine
open book exam but 11 questions in 1 and 15 minutes is alot. answers aleast 2 blue book pages to fully answer.
Final-terrible!!!! ITs a test for how fast you write, !His personality is terrible bordering on outrageous. He only likes guys, especially russian guys who suck up most of the time. Everybody else forget about it! HE should be working in a bank barking orders and making rude comments. DO NOT TAKE!!
He is indeed a very knowledgeble guy, but doesn't have a good personality. Not concerned with your problems, even if you go out of your way to prove that you have tried your best in class. Rude, abrasive and mean. Trust me when I say that. Don't ask for any consideration, thinks everybody is lying.
Enthusiastic retired man who really knows his stuff. Money, banking, and monetary policy is his life. This professor is not out to get you, but really wants you to learn the material. Pay attention to his lecture, be in class on time, take good notes and you will do fine in this class.
He practically gives you every opportunity to do well in his class (extra credits, bonus points, attendance, etc.). He is a bit behind on technology. Doesn’t use projector at all, gives out handouts, and comes in 10mins early before each class and writes 2 pages worth of notes on the board.
He knows a lot, funny and intelligent. However, it is true about his personality. Write very very good notes in class (all of his exams come right out of them). Book is good for reference, but don't buy it, waste of 100 bucks. He should lighten up though, takes the attendace way too seriously
Pr. Sherman is by far the most enlightening professors. He is very intelligent, smart. He has experience and this is what provides a class with a special flavor. I can only describe this class with him in superlatives. I learned a lot and I do mean a lot. He is very smart!!! A+++++++++++++++++++++++
He cant make the class any easier.Gives all ques before the test, easy extra credit, bonus points.Hes a stickler for attendance and doesn't treat most students with too much respect, but a small price to pay for an A.Regarding Russians-did you forget that Russian kid he humiliated by moving him twice?
It just doesn't get easier than that. I don't think he is disrespectful - he set the rules the first day of class and whoever does not follow them gets embarrassed in front of 80 people. You will learn a lot without memorizing anything, which is very rare. Open note open book exams, extra credit...
Book is a waste of money not needed. Perfect attendance, doing both extra credits (for midterm and final) and getting an A on the midterm will get you a sweet suprise in the end ;) He gives you the problems ahead of time, very easy A. Do the things I mentioned earlier and you are guaranteed an A
I enjoyed his class..he is very knowledegable, unlike other profs who have lived in college all their lives, he actually been in the real world. His tests are straight from his notes..must copy every word..fair grader..his bedside manner could use some help, though.
This guy is simply the man. His class is very interesting. His tests are open book/note and he gives the questions in advance. If you have perfect attendance, he boosts ur final grade(B to B+, etc) but if you do both extra creds and get an A on midterm you will get a nice surprise at the end of sem.
he's a great guy and gives very good grade. he gives extra credit assignments n the exams r open book. u'll b exempt from the final if u do well on mid-term, so work ur best on the 1st exams. take notes on everything he says in class n use them on tests then u'll be on ur way to an A =). take him!
his grading system is not fair though, if you ace the mid-term, you are exempted from taking the final and automatically ace the course.
He's very knowledgeable and really has a passion for what he does. It is an easy class if you do what you're supposed to. You learn alot in his class.
So far the best professor I have ever had!Be on time, only water allowed,no food,no other beverages.Very interesting lectures, discusses current events, encourages questions, gives clear notes, just write more details as he gives lectures.Gives questions ahead of exams.Absolutely fabulous professor!
This guy is brilliant. He knows his stuff and gives a really interesting lecture. He's a professional, not an academic, so you get a different and better perspective of the material. Plus, although the tests are long, they are open book and notes so if you listen in class, you will have no problem.
Great Professor. In his class u get the perfect combination...you learn something and ge almost a guaranteed A. His tests, if u can believe it, just require u to transcribe ure notes from the board onto the paper, there are no tricks. He's great teacher as well, for he has street smarts and has a pleasent manner. IF u dont take him for eco.ure crazy
Good professor and interesting lectures. I especially liked the current events at the beginning of class. You'll learn a lot if you pay attention. Tests are open book and he gives you the questions the day before. Strict with attendance and punctuality.
Like everyone else mentioned, Sherman is laid back and easygoing. Tests are open book, gives 3 extra credit projects, and boosts your grade a notch if you show up everyday. Has the real-life experience so he makes the class that much more interesting.
The best!! Take him is you have the chance. Has a lot of personal experience to share :)
Good Prof... a little anal tho :) otherwise pretty easy- just take GOOD NOTES! very important to pay attention to handouts also. keep everything he gives you and try not to fall asleep :)
Yet another ECONOMICS class that should really be labelled a FINANCE class! Same with Ruemke's ECO 3200! ECO & FIN go hand in hand? Fine! But when are you gonna start teaching any economics here at Baruch, eh?! c'mon already!
He's the best! Easier than his class, impossible! If u go to class and write note, u'll get and A w/o effort. u also learn a lot! Not the BS theory, but real word economic problems! Take him if u have a chance & u won't regret! I simply loved this class!!!
Sherman's the best. Literally rewrite what he says in class for 100+ midterm and final scores. If you start to bring in your own views he'll mark you wrong. Don't bother buying the textbook! Just copy the pages you need from someone else who bought it.
The best professor ever ... test are the easiest, straight from the notes. Gives extra credit (5pts) and another current even qt (10pts) extra to bust ur grade, which u don't even need. AND.. the most important thing is that he's interesting and sometimes funny :)
He makes himself look like a meanie at first but once u get to know him hes a nice guy.. do some studying and u ll pull off a good grade.. i liked the guy overall.. his meanie person attitude in the beginning was too much for me at first but uget used to it.

i find him very disrescectful of students. his attitude does not belong in a setting where he requires you to show respect but he fails to do do so himself. easy A, but not worth the snobbish attitude of his.
full of attitude, open notes exam and still you gotta work hard to get A on those exams
He is a great professor! Comes off as a meanie, but really is a sweetie. Don't buy the book just write down what he puts on the board and take notes as he speaks. I learned a lot and got an A!He's willing to help after class if you need it. Open book exams and excellent review. Just give him back the from your notes and you'll score high.
Essay exams, hard grader, definetly wouldn't recommend him. Not an easy A.
Honestly if you want to learn, and want a proffesor who actully knows what he's talking about, take him. He is absolutlely amazing, if i could I would take him again. yes he has essay questions but he gives the topics a week in advance, its open book and topics are directly from his notes.it is a little difficult but doable
he is easy, just copy what he put on the board. 2 exams and 2 extra credit projects.
Very good professor. It's an easy class and if you decide to pay attention you'll learn a lot too.
The only hard thing about this class is the amount of writing in the class and on tests - your hand will literally feel like it's about to fall off, but like others said - you copy straight from your notes so it's easy.
Easy A if you take go to every class and take good notes since essay tests are straight from the notes. Students who went to every class and got over 100 on the midterm got exempt from the final this semester. I don't think that happens every semester though. He is very knowledgeable so if you want to learn, he is a good professor to take.
Simply Great. and super easy just go to class and pay attention and write everything he puts on the board. do not buy the book. Yes a lot of writing even on the exams you would need as a minimun 2 blue books but thats ok because is open book, open laptop open everything and the he gives the question ahead of time. You need to be a moron to get <A
Awesome! This class really opened my eyes to finance/economics. This class is about the real world rather than BS calculations. Prof Sherman has been in the business for 50+ years! extremely knowledgeable! I got an A+ on the first exam and hopefully did well on the final. LOTS AND LOTS of writing. The examS are EXACTLY from the notes! RECOMMENDED!!
BE AWARE - WHEN ANSWERING QUES. ON TESTS - YES THEY ARE FROM NOTES, BUT YOU MUST EXPLAIN THEM THOUROUGHLY, AND BE STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, UNNECESSARY INFO WILL COUNT AGAINST YOU. Overall, nice man, helpful - but DO NOT ASK HIM TO RAISE YOUR GRADE UNLESS YOU DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMTS. SUMMER CLASS WAS TOO LONG - 3-3.5 hours. MUST WORK FOR AN A.
Professor Sherman's strength is that he teaches money/banking in a manner that relates to current events. Seldom does a professor keep you abreast of real world dynamics, and actually teach the material. I came out of that class more aware of our economy's current health, and I now understand our financial system. Thank you Professor!
Book is not needed...just take good notes, and TRY NOT TO COME LATE AND BE ABSENT. OPEN BOOK/NOTES TESTS. TWO VOLUNTARY PROJECTS.
Professor Sherman is one of the easiest professors at Baruch. All you have to do is take notes (there's a lot of them) and come to class ON-TIME! He gives you every opportunity to get an A in his class. The midterm is out of 110 points (115 if you do the extra credit), and the final is out of 115 (120 for EC). Impossible not to get an A!
Best professor that you can ever have. So full of information, wisdom, and experience it's incredible. Used to work at Chase, Merryl, etc. You have to take good notes, and be in class on time, everyday. You don't need the textbook. He gives you all the material you need. He even tells you the questions ahead of time for exams (2 of them). Great!
One of the best Baruch has to offer! He knows his material and def can teach, but can be very boring at times. You come out of this class with a much better understanding of the economy, and its an easy A. Wish he taught more classes!
Professor Sherman is the man! He is a very intelligent individual who teaches based on his real-world experiences. All you have to do is come to class every single day and take notes. Better yet, all of his tests are open book and he gives you all of the questions before-hand. What more can you ask for to get an A? Highly recommended.
Overrated one word - gave me a bad grade after I studied hard with his help dont take him
Man, I guess he changed over the past year.. absoloutley dreadful, boring, hard and a total drill sergeant wannabe thinks hes the boss 24/7 and grades tough.
He's totally overrated! Very hard to understand. Boring lectures. Basically, you go to class and take notes and then take the exam. If you don't understand something, he doesn't explain clearly to you. Tough midterm + final! I study on my own and did ok. I felt like I didnt learn a thing in his class. Such a waste of time! Take someone else!
Boring but easy. U have 2 take a lot of notes. He will tell u the test questions 1 week earlier & it's all from the notes in class. It's open book & notes. Gives extra credits but u don't really need it because it's easy to get an A without them. He also makes tests 110 points so even if u don't know a couple of questions, you can still get an A.

not bad hes ok there are better out there
he is ok, but really doesn't teach a lot. have to be in every class, if you 1 minute late, doesn't let you in. i got a very dissapointing grade on midterm, though studied a lot.
One of the best economics professor at Baruch!! Very knowledgeable about Money and Banking. The key to doing good is to show up to every class and take lots of notes.
Impossible not to get an A unless you don't come to class on time (mandatory) or forget your notes for the exams (they're open notes). No HW and textbook is useless, but he writes a lot on the board - just copy it all. His class is a very good non-quant ekective for finance majors-it will help you understand the structure of banking system.
This professor is very passionate about teaching. He seems sort of arrogant at times with his lateness policy. If you are interested in current events and are good at taking notes and showing up to each class early, take him, it is an Easy A!! Also, his exams are both open book and he gives two extra credits - do them!!
Best professor at college. Extremely fair. Very enlightening class. If you cannot get an A, take a leave of absence.
Extremely helpful. Very fair and probably one of the best professors in eco dept. You've got to study and do your job and be always on time. I'm not majoring in eco or finance and yet found this class helpful and interesting. Take him..

Very easy class- he gives all the notes in his handouts that are exactly whats on the exam. He gives all the questions in advance and the test is open book and essay type questions. It is unimaginable to possibly fail the class. 50% of the class gets an A... besides it is a very interesting class- worth the time
The class is straightforward. This class is just doing copy n paste. If you are a human being who knows how to read basic english this is the class for you. The textbook isn't required just take notes and keep his handouts and you'll be fine. Easy B even if you are out cold during his class.
If you're interested in Money/Banking, this is the guy for you. For the rest of us, that just want an easy A, he's also our man. Open book tests AND he tells you what's on it! Handouts for each class that totally help on test. He hates excessive latenesses though, so BE WARNED: He will dock you 5 points on your final if you're late too often.
Very insightful. Takes attendance very seriously. If you get perfect attendance he automatically curves you up 1/2 a letter grade. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, you dont need it at all. With handouts in hand easy B+/A-/A.
Absolute best for money and banking! Gives you all the opportunities to get an A. If you have perfect attendance w a max of 1 tardy he bumps up ypur grade from for ex, a- to a. Also, he gives like a total of 15 extra points per exam, midterm and final. Overall, highly recommended, must have good attendance.
This Professor is very easy, very helpful, and he has a good sense of humor, better than half the other economic teachers. He gives outlines for every class and gives you extra credit which adds to your midterm and final grades. Highly recommended!
THIS GUY IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO TAKE HIM! FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO CAN EXPLAIN THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM CRYSTAL CLEAR! he knows his stuff! and if you cannot score an A in this class, you should not be in skewl. seriously amazing amazing amazing! so glad i took him
TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A IN AN ECONOMICS CLASS. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO STUDY THE TESTS ARE OPEN BOOK
He is one of the worst prof I ever had for Eco class. He gives the answer before the test, but the test is tricky.Even tough, It's a open book. His test are hard and if you want to challenge your questions He gets really mad. I made a huge mistake taken him. I recommend be very careful with this guy. He is very strict in the class.
Pretty straight forward class... Pay attention... answers come from the notes but the textbook is very helpful on the exams cause some stuff he doesn't explain in detail and it may be on the exam... just take notes and bring them and the textbook to the test and you'll be fine! its open book!
He is the worst professor I have ever taken at Baruch College. His lecture is boring. His grading system is unfair. If you ask him about the grading, he gets mad and takes more points off from your exam.
not as easy as what other people say but he's a nice guy tho..it maybe an open book/notes but the thing is some of the answers to his questions are not there.he gives SOME of the questions in advance too..BUT the HARDEST questions, he doesnt...some are not even taught..he's VERY strict about attendance! can't complain tho, he's great!
must do extra credit----must take good notes...50%(midterm and final) he will lower your grade if you have too many absence.....perfect attendance(A- become A) learn nothing from his class.....do not ask him any questions after class, he will lower your grade.....
Do not trust him--he said 49% of students got A....he is a liar.........I have proved
He can not teach..I do not why Baruch College hire this kind of person......learn nothing from his class...shit...never never never buy the textbook.....he never use it...
GIVE ME B+, I DO NOT KNOW WHY...I AM SUPPOSED TO GET AN A
the class seems very easy at the biggining. I gat an A on the midterm and I did all extra credit assignments. I think I was going to get an A and I donT know why he gaVE me a B. DONT TAKE HIM. THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT BARUCH.
LEARN NOTHING.......DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEARN
IF YOU DONOT LIKE WRITING OR HANDWRITING IS NOT GOOD, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS....TWO EXAMS ARE WRITTEN EXAMS.....TERRIBLE....
A horrible summer session had due to the exams the professor had given. Basically, If you aren't word for word on answers based on lecturing, He will deduct a good amount of points. Will leave an A student with a B in the end. Take somebody else who has a more lenient grading system. Highly not recommended.
He is very old to teach..He is ridicilous..I am not bias here..Eco is my minor and I am very into class, yet he doesn't teach anything..I got my worst grade ever in Baruch. I'm going to drop this class..it is just waste of time and money..
You should write what he wants in the test..and the midterm has two parts.each part takes one entire lecture..and if you disagree with his grading, you can challenge him but if he thinks you deserve what you got from your test, he will go ahead and take off even more points from your midterm..be aware of him..!!
If you can't get a good grade in this class you should not be an economics or finance major. Even if you somehow can't understand the material, you can still get a good grade by writing down what he said in class on the exam, and if that's not enough, just have perfect attendance and no more than 1 lateness and you'll get a half grade bonus. do it.
2 midterms, both written, open book/note exams. did I mention exams are out of 115? you have 22 points to mess around and still get an A. i dont understand how people can do bad in this class. hes very strict on attendance and lateness, but u can boost half a grade if you have perfect attendance. do it for the grade.
