DAMN GOOD TEACHER... If you want to learn how to hold up a good argument against ANYONE about the government, you have to take this class... its ALL essay and as long as you work hard to make sense you'll be fine. Tadie teaches you EVERYTHING u need to know...
He was not great at teaching. He knows his material and is good to argue with but he needs to work on the instructing thing. Gives tons of dense reading.
Tadie is a good guy. Hasn't taught in a long time but he wasn't bad, shaky at first and some people didn’t like him. However, by the end of the semester he pretty much won me over and I enjoyed his lectures. Hopefully he will continue to teach, next semester he should be right on track.
Very knowledgeable guy.
Very, very smart man.
pretty good teacher but alittle rough. he's chatty and I don't recommend a 3 hour class with him, it get's really boring
This professor was awesome. I actually enjoyed going to his class. He knows his**** and he is very fair with everyone. Only quizes and finals and if you just study the study guide you should be straight. Like I said before AWESOME professor!!!
If you are taking it as a requirement and not bc you like the topic, I wouldnt recommend it. I took as much notes as I could, wrote a lot of info on the essays, and I got a B without having to do the readings. Otherwise, was bored most of the time.
A fine teacher and a fair grader. Don't come to class if you don't want to work, but don't be in school if you don't want to learn.
My fav class this semester- gr8t prof! Highly recommended for GOVT majors- easy A. Do the assigned readings b4 class & be prepared to particpate- very interesting. Be prepared to learn! 4 quizzes, m/t & final. Texts are very useful- the assigned readings r critical, though- read them & participate = A. Take this class- u wont b disappointed!
One of my favorite classes ever! Tadie brings both knowledge and experience to the class, and was careful to tell both sides of the issues. He was also reasonable about changing my grade if I thought I should have received a better one. I strongly recommend him! Oh, but yes, do the reading because he will make you work for an A.
he made me work my *** off but i somehow managed. he gets angry if you dont read his assignment and come to class. he picked on me but made me work hard. fair grading too
Dr. Tadie is a very kind and sincere man. He will work with you on your grade. The class consists of 4 quizzes 10%, mid and final 25%, attendance and participation 10%. My advice is to attend every class, it will prepare you for your quizzes.
Very smart man. Don't take him unless you intend to work; great for Govt majors, but not for people looking for electives. READ THE BOOK! If you read the book, you'll do fine. But the lectures alone aren't enough for an A. He does work hard with you- really helpful if you're willing to ask for help. GREAT teacher if you're willing to work/read.
Very interesting class. Exams are easy if you paid attention during classes since he tends to say "This would be a good exam question." Was very helpful if you miss class as long as its not every week.
Awesome professor! He kept the attention of 50 students from 7:20-10pm. You MUST do the reading for his class. If he thinks you haven't done the reading he will pick you to answer his open ended questions. If he writes something on the board, you should write it down. He expects you to write well, even on quizzes. Follow his instructions!
Good at teaching, you HAVE to attend class to pass. All his lectures will be on the quizzes. It helps to read the material, but be prepared for pop quizzes. If you actually want to learn something take his class, it's worth it.
Hard but managed to make a near three hour class go by like nothing. He's incredibly smart but be prepared to read! Often goes on tangents but they are always entertaining if not related. Also very open to questions during and after class. Take him if you want to learn something.
His syllabus makes him seem like the teacher from Hell; but if you stick with him, you'll quickly find out that he's anything but. Read the material and attend his classes; even if you don't understand what you've read, he explains it in tidy little diagrams during class that make a world of difference. Looking forward to the rest of the semester.
Great teacher, made a 3 hour class absolutely fascinating. The only bad thing is that after his class every other gov't class you have will seem wholly uninteresting.
You MUST attend class!!! Tadie is excellent at taking complex theories and making them easy to understand, but he never dumbed down the material. He has decades of experience in the state department which allows him to draw from practical experience. Read the book. Very knowledgable. Makes 3 hours like 1. He reads his ratings on this website.
Tadie was awesome. Great teacher who really knows his stuff. He pretty much tells you the essay questions for the quizzes and midterms. His lectures show that he is interested in the subject and he draws from real life experience in the field. Highly recommended, looking forward to the higher level course he is teaching.
Very very liberal in views and has no problem expressing them. Very knowledgeable of government. GO TO CLASS. You will not pass this class! His grading is fair. First class I have had that the professor WANTS you to ask questions if you don't understand. Will help you whenever you need it!
Professor Tadie is absolutely refreshing! I truly enjoy how outspoken he is in class and how he names things by their true name (e.g. America/ns did a lot of stuff that wasn't so great). I am learning a tremendous amount! Aside from that: Respect for the human being that you are, Professor Tadie! Thank you!
The essential professor for any Government major. Has decades of CIA and State Dept. experience, so he can actually explain practical knowledge, not just theory. If you don't read the material he will find out: he asks questions. Hopefully one day he will take advantage of the new "Professors Response" feature as he reads his ratings.
Finally a professor who understands the concept of higher education, and doesn't teach at a high school level. He breaks down the material in a way that can be understood through diagrams. All exams are written. For the exams, remember the diagrams he presented, pay attention in class, and do some outside research and you're guaranteed an 'A'.
Provides absolutely NO (not a single word)of feedback on graded material, making comprehension of his grading system unreliable and ambiguous. Walked out on class because he felt too many students were absent, punishing students who had arrived to learn. Difficult to ascertain connection between lectures presented and assigned readings.
Tadie was a really nice guy who always spoke what was on his mind. His lectures were very interesting because he shared many personal experiences and tied them into each specific topic. All exams were essays and he doesn't give anyone over a 90/100. Kind of ridiculous, but I still ended up with an A. Take his class and you won't regret it.
Go to class, take notes on interesting topics and get an A. Probably the most interesting class I've taken so far .His lectures aren't boring and are relevant to what's going on in today's world. If you're at all interested in Gov then you won't regret this class. Def work a little bit to get an A but if you get a C or below your just lazy.
Dr. Tadie doesn?t interact with his students, just asks them painfully obvious questions every now and then (?who knows when WW2 started??). I have no doubt that Dr. Tadie is a smart man, but he?s not a good prof.
I am honored to have Professor Tadie as my government professor. Professor Tadie is a professor who teaches in a very ethical, reasonable and just matter. He is a very articulate professor, who lectures with passion. He cares about each and every individual being successful and comprehending the material. Professor Tadie has set the precedent.
Dr. Tadie knows what he's talking about, and says it clearly. He doesn't want his students to fail, and will help you succeed as long as you are willing to work a fair amount. This is a not a freebie class, but we're not in school for freebies.
Professor Tadie is an excellent teacher. His experience is evident, those that remark about him not sharing his experience have no understanding of the environment in which he worked. They get bad grades because of their inability to understand the nature of the business. Listen, attend, read, write essays in rational form and you'll get your A.
Dr Tadie doesnt say exactly what he wants you to put in the essay exams, but if you don?t write a carbon-copy of whatever he thinks is acceptable he DESTROYS your GPA. I don?t know if he thinks GOVT 132 is a graduate class or if he likes pretending he?s at Yale, but waaay over the top. No extra credit what so ever.
Write down the diagrams, write down the notes that relate to the diagram, be sure you can explain the diagram in a rational, logical essay. As long as you study the diagrams and can communicate on a college level you should get an A. It isn't given to you, there is thought and effort involved, but isn't that the point of higher education?
Intimidating guy at first, but actually pretty cool and has a good sense of humor. Definitely go to ALL of the classes and take notes. All quizzes and tests are essays. I'd recommend him as a professor.
Try and find a picture of this guy on Google. He has lost at least 30 pounds since his foreign service days. Anyway, awesome professor. You will only have problems with him if you are lazy, illiterate, or spoiled.
This is a real easy teacher. He tells you exactly what is on the quizes and exams. If you take good notes and know how to write essays (based off of your notes) you will get an A. He's very straight forward I would definitely reccomend this teacher for an easy A and interesting class.
A really smart, experienced guy. He is still working in his field, and just teaches because he's passionate about working with students. I was weary about the essay test (4 of them), but they really helped me learn the material! FYI, I took a night class, and he covered lots of material very quickly, finishing in about half the time;he packs it in!
This professor is a great professor with lots of knowledge. I would def. recomend taking him. I was afraid after I took his first exam (gives your 4 essay ?s and u answer 2). The only thing is no matter how hard I did on those I still got a B. He doesn't believe in 100s. Though he did manage to not count the first test as long as he sees improv
everything was good about this man except he grades very very harshly. i studied hard, attended every single class, participated in class yet, i would still get c's on my exams. however i did manage to pull a b. no matter how hard i tried there was no pleasing this man with the writing. ghosh is better i hear.
I got an A+ in this course. In another of his classes I was not as successful, but did acknowledge my limited efforts. My achievements are surely enlightened by an inspirational source. He is definitely NOT A SOPHIST, and bestows his passion for the subject he teaches onto all students. TAKE HIM and become acquainted with a true concept: Dialectic!
Tadie is almost excessively fair-minded and reasonable, although he throws some people off. His grading relies on one skill: short in-class essays, written two at a time, under a time limit. I'm not sure I agree with the idea of grading for exceptional writing in the ink-smeared scrawls of a blue-book, but getting a A-/B+/B is well within reach.
Not that hard at all. The key to getting an A in Tadie's classes is to repeat his opinion as though it were fact and do ten minutes of research prior to taking tests. One word of warning: he is veryyy far left politically. If you disagree with him he will downgrade you.
Clear, fair, entertaining.
Not cool! If you are a 3.7 GPA like me and care about your grades, this guy is not for you. I don't know why everybody elses experience with Tadie was good, but he appeared very arrogant to me. Just read his rebuttal to see what kind of prof he is.
Simplifies what is complicated, complicates what is simple, and is not as knowledgeable as other govt GMU profs.
He is an excellent teacher who still works in the field. He is helpful and will help you to do well in his class. Listens to suggestions and will meet your requests for more help or taking an alternate exam.
Tadie is a professor with a unique viewpoint and highly relevant professional history. Not just an academic, Dr. Tadie has been in the policy and diplomacy fields for a long time, and it shows in his grasp of the material and interesting anecdotes.
This guy absolutely LOVES kiwi-fruit!
If you take notes at class, you will do very well. I took two classes with him and like his style of teaching. He is very knowledgable and makes the material very interesting.
Dr. Tadie explains things clearly and goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands the material. Very helpful with questions/concerns. You shouldn't have any problem on the exams if you attend class and read the material. He is very entertaining and knows what he is talking about. Overall, I highly recommend taking this class.
WILL answer your questions if you have them, WILL explain things on the board in somewhat indecipherable scrawl, WILL tell you what that indecipherable scrawl says without being offended, most of all WILL get you to an A in the course if you have some prior interest in the subject. If only all 400-levels were as interesting and intuitive.
Great professor. I absolutely love when GMU has staff that is still in their field of expertise, and Tadie is just that. This man knows his stuff! Sometimes the lecutres come across as sad or grave, but that's just the reality IR. I'll be honest, I never cracked the book and I did excellent in his class. It's all about his lectures. Recommended.
Great Professor! Knows his stuff. I like that he always connects real life examples from his years of service to the particular subject he is teaching. If you want to learn and not just pass a class I would highly recommend his classes. Exams are easy if you attend class and take notes. You can do well even without readings but his notes are a must
The most field experience I have seen from a prof at Mason thus far. I really enjoyed his class because I left with valuable knowledge. He has help me better enjoy myself when it comes to policy conversation that I encounter.
I personally question Dr. Tadie?s in-depth knowledge of history, some of the arguments he made in class did not quite connect with what I know from my previous history classes. He would be an OK prof if he was not so overtly arrogant! Dr. Tadie reminds me of the classic old-school type left over from the cold war. Just my opinion.
Very interesting lecture. Professor is very knowledgable. Absolutely enjoyed taking his class. Must be on time and attend class. Notes are important and he's very reasonable and fair with grades. You won't regret taking his class.
Foreign policy attracts a lot of arrogant people, but Professor Tadie is not one of them. Has a career of knowledge to draw from and is one of the essential professors for anyone interested in a career in foreign policy.
Just finished this semester, this is a great class & Professor! I have a full time professional job, and have to get up early & commute for this class, it was one of the few that I didn?t dread going to. Informative, insightful, and the guy has humor (that people actually laugh at). His lectures are broken down so that everyone can understand.
Okay guy. Very reasonable as long as you attend class. Only 3 exams and no book so attendance is imperative. I personally wouldnt take him again, but whatever floats your boat...
Just read the prof's rebuttals to other students, that kind of condescending behaviour speaks for itself. Attending class, taking notes, and reading the textbook is not enough to guarantee an A grade, you need to recite word for word his particular interpretation of history and politics.
Prof Tade knows what he's talking about, grades fairly, offers assistance when asked, and wants students to succeed. There are not many other things one could want in a professor. I also personally enjoyed his teaching style and found it helpful to remembering the information, but that's just a preference. Be prepared to write exams!
If you have any interest at all in the affairs of national security, you will pick up this material like a sponge. So long as you stay informed by other means, reading the books actually becomes redundant between those means and his lectures. Attend his lectures- you will learn AND be entertained. Funny things always manage to happen during them :)
Great Professor. Old school - no technology whatsoever. Don't come late and don't wear hats in class. 3 in-class essay exams. Do the reading and attend lectures.
Tadie is very clear up front about what is required in terms of attendance, reading, exams, etc. There are no surprises in this class, except for the quality of the instruction, which is very high for this department in GMU.
I have no idea why this guy is a teacher beyond stroking his own ego...
He was really off this semester, i didn't learn more than i could read for myself. Crazy about grammar for a government course. If you don't follow his directions to the "t" or ask something he's ready told you he makes fun of you.
He has a great way with words (former diplomat AND intelligence analyst) and expects you to be the same. The exams are all essay, but he's fairly lenient on the grading, as long as you answer correctly. His lectures is where you will learn most in the course, as well as the content for the exams. Attendance is must. Don't wear a hat or use laptop
Very good professor. Class is all lecture and attendance is mandatory. The tests are all essay. Just take good notes in class and you'll do well.
If you like teachers who coddle, you might not like Tadie. You have to take the class seriously. He's crotchety but in a good way. He's very reasonable. Class is lecture, pay attention and take notes, that's enough to get you to pass. I enjoyed his class, would def take another class with him.
He is the most knowledgeable source for international security. He is very straightforward. If he writes something down, you should write it down. If there is a chart, LEARN the chart. It's not enough to simply regurgitate a lecture, you have to be able to express your OWN opinion. Exams are essays...have a good handle on the mechanics of English.
Comes off as cranky at first but he is a very good teacher. Not using laptops in class really helped to learn the material better. Class material is kind of grim. If you show up to his class and take good notes you will pass no problem. Tests are almost 100% from lecture. Really enjoyed the class.
Tadie's a good teacher if you're willing to put in some work and pay attention.
Begins as though he cares about students but by the end of the semester it is clear he doesn't care at all. He does seem to care about the information he is presenting. When I asked for him to review my work and help me understand where I can improve he gave my work back and said nothing further. Presented info is outdated. Grades extremely low.
Tadie is a great professor! Very knowledgeable, professional, fair and passionate. Wants you to succeed, but won't hold your hand. Come to class, pay attention, copy (verbatim) what he puts on the board and study those notes because that's what you'll be tested on. If he draws a table/graph, draw it too. I got an A+, so yes it is possible!
Tadie is amazing. The only people I find don't like him are those who are not willing to put in the work. He's not going to hold your hand, but if you ask, he will definitely help. Make sure you copy down everything he puts on the board and pay attention to the hints he sometimes gives about the test. Overall, awesome professor!
I dreaded every minute of this class, but I have never learned so much. No technology allowed, which is a hard transition, but it's worth it. If you show him your respect, he will respect you as well. Don't expect an easy A; essay tests are HARD. But the class is well worth it.
Prof Tadie is the best professor I have had at Mason. I have taken his courses simply because he was teaching. Extremely knowledgeable subject matter expert, you will leave his class very well informed. No surprises, take notes, read the reading assignments, attend class, and you will have no issues.
He stated at the beginning of class what he expected and that is what you got. He was very fair.
Don't take this class unless you are willing to work like crazy. Tadie is harsh in grading and doesn't give you a A unless your work is perfect. If you want a REAL challenge take this class.
The class required a lot of reading but if you actually read then answering the exam questions wasn't too bad. Expect 3 exams with 2 essay questions each. You will have to read though because he doesn't cover everything you need to pass in his lectures. No study guide is given but he will do a brief verbal review before an exam.
Best teacher I have ever had in my life. Always helpful and stops to make sure the class is following his discussion. Years of experience and tough in the greatest way imaginable. Highly recommend.
Great Professor. He will teach you everything you need to know for the test. If you do not go to class, AND take very detaied notes you will not do well. Tests are ~90% lecture ~10% reading. Very informative, learned a lot. A's are possible/easy-ish but you must attend every class and take good notes. 3 Tests, No curve, None dropped.
I've had this professor in the past for a GOVT class and I have to say he has a consistent teaching method which is his lectures and minimal readings from the book. As long as you attend each class and take sufficient notes, you should easily achieve a B.
Definitely a man with great experience in the field. However, I feel that his old school style of teaching makes him difficult to understand. His lectures are not very organized, and his "handwritten" notes are very sloppy. Personally, I believe that if he organized his thoughts/key points in a PowerPoint he would be much more effective.
Strict but fair. Attendance is definitely a requirement.
Pretty difficult teacher. But you know he is VERY experience in his field. Even though he doesn't take attendance you should go. He goes over all the material for the exam and if you don't read you'll probably fail. So that being said, book is not necessary as long as you take all the notes he puts and pay attention.
Tadie is a decent professor lectures are long because he only teaches night classes there is no technology allowed to be used in the class room ensure that your phone sound is off or else he will call you out the tests are from the info he writes on the board essay tests that require knowledge of the information and an informed opinion
EASY Class! He literally gives out 3 tests and that is it! Take notes! If he writes it, then you better too! His lectures are good if this subject interests you! He likes for ppl to show up, but if you can't just email him and he will get you the notes. He is a fairly easy grader imo, but make sure you know how to write and have good grammar!
Was a bit worried considering the grade was based off of 3 tests and that is it. However, as long as you attend class and skim the readings, you will pass with ease. He just wants you to learn. I will admit, college gets overwhelming and having a class which has a very little work load really is nice. Trust me when I say, it is an easy class!
Awesome Professor. Took him for CRIM 310. Take notes about his lectures they matter. No hats nor Cell phones/Laptops.
Great professor. Every lecture was interesting. He doesn't expect much but for you to show up to class. If you take notes, you will be fine. Three tests - but, he grades fairly. Loved this class!
Tadie is most definitely one of my favorite profs at GMU. His class is NOT easy, however it isn't difficult. Do the readings, show up to class and you'll be fine. I had a family emergency during the 3rd/final exam and without his help, I would've had a terrible time trying to get through it. If you have the chance to take him, DO IT
He was the best Professor of my college career. I wish he taught more classes so I can actually get something out of the other classes I am taking. He lectures without powerpoints or other gimmicks so you have to pay attention. Veteran of the field so he knows what he is talking about. Tests are essay format and are not difficult if you show up.
one of the best professors I've had. He has vast experience in the field. I found his old fashioned methods refreshing and I enjoyed it. His lecture was truly a discussion, questions were welcome and so were opposing view points. Essay exams but the questions were usually thoroughly discussed with basic note taking it should be easy. JUST TAKE IT
Lectures are mandatory to pass, he doesn't allow electronics because people have abused them in the past and he's old fashioned. Just respect that. He is kind, always there to help and very knowledgeable in his field. He changed his tests to multiple choice so they are a bit tricky, take careful notes. No textbook, just light readings on BB
He is kind and he can be mean at the same time. No PowerPoint no nothing you simply have to write down what comes out his mouth. Better come to every class and take notes. Avoid or else you will regret.
Terrible class. The material was very interesting but the tests were horrible. Only 3 exams which had a lot of errors. People were graded totally unfair. So your final grade was almost like a lottery. Most of the class failed the first exam, but the professor still refused to show us our exams to see what was wrong with them. Be aware !!
I have taken classes by Tadie and I am looking for more classes to take!
Great professor, probably the best I had a Mason. Pay attention and you will do fine.
Great professor who actually knows what he is talking about! Has field experience (DoH and CIA). No power points, but he speaks slowly enough so you can take notes and he writes on the board. He wants you to pass! Only two papers to decide your grade, but he's a fair grader. Nice guy, too. I'm taking him again next semester!
Different from other professors. Doesn't use PowerPoint, doesn't let you record his lectures so you have to listen and take notes. 2 exams, which he does talk about, but its too general so you have to study all your notes. Don't miss a class or you will fall behind. Pay close attention, take good notes, study hard and you'll be fine.
This prof is not a tough grader! Go to class, and pay attention, take notes, you will pass with an A (i took 2 classes). Literally just 3 exams. If he writes on the board, it is important, so take notes! He grades on two things: Knowing the subject, and English grammar, which he makes clear. You can miss a few classes too. Super chill class!
Tadie is an excellent professor. He's an expert in his field. He may seem like an old grumpy guy but he cares for his students. His lectures are amazing. Take detailed notes. Tadie clearly states questions on exams and makes his expectations clear. Don't have be greatest writer to pass. One of my most memorable professors. Don't cross him.
Prof. Tadie is an expert in his field! He knows lots of information and he loves teaching what he knows. There is no graded work in the class besides a mid term and a final, which is not cumulative. That is one thing that is hard, both exams are essay form. But if you show up to class, pay attention and take GOOD NOTES you will do good on the exams
wanna give this guy a higher score (granted u will learn a lot from Tadie as he knows US histry, but unless you have a lot of free time on your hands) you might get screwed by this class. ONLY HAS 2 TESTS NOW if you screw up on one just know that your done for. His lectures are not boring but hes softspoken. no grade savrs but needs 1 mor test/HW
This class was not bad, however for the material we had to review, I felt we should had more graded assignments just besides two exams.
Professor Tadie gave us two exams last semester and both were very easy. If you show up to lectures and take notes he will tell you exactly what he is looking for in his exams (ie. he will talk about a subject and say afterwards or before 'this will be on the exam). He also goes over important topics before the exam. No textbooks and very accesible
Walking into Tadie's class I was very nervous because he started off with saying "At least half of you will fail" but by the end of the semester I was so inspired by him and felt for him. Tadie is tough but he cares and he brings a lot of passion to his lectures. You will learn a lot about the subject and also life from his class. He is great!
Tadie is the professor everyone wants to have- If you show up, take good notes, and want to learn you will do well. He tells you the criteria of what he wants on every exam and is extremely knowledgeable about international governments and intelligence. If you decide not to take his class you're really missing out, he is truly one of a kind.
One of the best professor youll have! Hes knows so much. It is a lecture based class, but it isnt boring. He loves it when you ask questions in class! 3 exams heavy weighted but he gives you all the answers prior and you can email him your notes to see if they are on point! Take his class you wont regret it!
Prof. Tadie made class go by quickly and his lectures were interesting. I learned a lot this semester and would definitely take him for another class. Attendance is necessary to do well as all the essay exams were based on his lectures and he does not provide anything on Blackboard if you miss a class.
Don't be deceived. The first 1-2 classes I had with him, I thought it was going to suck. However, as the semester went on, you can follow his teaching style easier and enjoyed the class. NO ELECTRONICS ALLOWED! That means computers and phones. All lecture notes must be taken by hand and Tests are all essay based and are also hand written.
This is the third class I have taken with Dr. Tadie and I am saddened it was my last. He has a no electronics policy for both himself and the class. All notes must be taken by hand and the essays are handwritten. Each semester you have 3 exams. They are very easy if you pay attention. He tells you what he is going to ask. I have never learned more.
This is unacceptable. As a prof, you should not express yourself that way. He is exactly like that in person too. Doesn't want you to ask questions after class. Very cynical. He is very stand offish.
Dr Tadie is interesting and has lots of experience, is dedicated to educating new professionals. You'll hate him the first class where he outlines his rules, but you'll love him after another class. He has a strict no electronics policy, doesn't use BB, and doesn't use powerpoint. He only has three essay tests, tells you what will be on them.
Professor Tadie is very knowledgeable, and he knows how to relay information to students, regardless of their prior understanding of the subject. With that being said, it's beneficial to read the assigned text (never long) and show up to class because your grade will tank. He doesn't use PowerPoint so you know what is important to write.
Dr. Tadie has real world experience in intelligence analysis, so listening to his stories is fun. Come to class and listen to lectures and you'll pass with flying colors. He gives exam hints. He is friendly and professional - and wants you to not only pass, but to LEARN. No textbook or BlackBoard used, so make sure you take good notes.
Professor Tadie is a great professor who makes his class the most barebones possible. And that is good. No textbook, no BB, no PP. So just show up and take notes on what he writes and ask questions, respectfully. Three essay exams that are all separate and not cumulative. Read the online readings he has on the syllabus. They're helpful. Take him!
I liked this class. Professor Tadie is really strict on attendance though, and that should be taken seriously. Take really good notes during his lectures. His class consists of three exams, and if you spend the time to learn the material youll be fine. He had really interesting stories, and I felt like I learned every class.
You only get 3 grades. 3 exams, each exam is only 2 questions. If you miss a class, youll get knocked down significantly. No B.B. or slides. Hand writes everything, hard to read his hand writting. Does not give much feedback on exams. Super hard class. Took him 8 weeks to finally actually teach us an actual technique of Intel. Analysis.
Mr. Tadie has been my favorite professor in my whole educational career! He is so interesting and teaches like no other professor. If you have the chance to take his class, do. He offers 3 in-class essay exams that are very straightforward. As long as you go to class and take notes you will get As. The only problem is he doesn't teach more classes!
Prof Tadie is a great professor. His grading material is light so you have to pay attention and no powerpoints or laptops in class. There is no book to buy so that is a big plus. Only 3 exams he grades off of for the class but he does a review before the exams and they are essay format. You will learn a lot from him on interesting topics.
Prof Tadie is one of the best profs at GMU. He is right to the point, knowledgeable and an amazing lecturer. If you just do your reading and pay attention in class the tests are so easy and you will be guaranteed an A! Don't be scared by some of the posts on here- TAKE HIS CLASS!!
This class was really interesting and worth it for anyone planning on working in the intelligence community. No need for textbook, just some weekly readings and 3 essay format exams that are straight forward. As long as you come to class, you will do great. Professor Tadie wants his students to actually learn, he may seem strict but he is caring.
Tadie is a great professor! Take quality notes, ask questions, and pay attention! Do these three things, and you are guaranteed to do well. He takes his classes seriously and expects you to do the same (which is something you should do already). He seems a bit intimidating at first, but he is very approachable!
Prof Tadie is an incredible choice as an expert in the government, criminology, and conflict field. He has real-life experience that makes his lectures interesting and worthwhile and uses this to challenge his students to learn more about international security and tactics. Taking him will advance and prepare you for a career in the federal gov!
He is my fav prof at GMU. You learn so much more in his class than anyone else's and are equally expected to perform so that he knows you are learning. The bar is set high but is also very much achievable if you are willing to put in the work and energy. He respects his students & goes above and beyond to teach them in the right way.
Prof Tadie is incredibly knowledgeable and will teach you a lot if you pay attention during his lectures. Just 3 tests; that's ALL you get graded on! I was nervous at first because failing one would've meant failing the class. However, I took pretty good notes, and I felt that the tests were not hard. He's not a harsh grader by any means either!
Prof. Tadie is very knowledgable and gives a lot of good examples during lecture. He records his lectures which was a great study tool. There arent many readings so its important to pay attention to the lectures. There are only 3 exams that determine your grade, no extra credit work.
Prof Tadie is one of the nicest profs ever! He truly cares for his students and wants us to understand. There's no final/mid-term - only 3 essay exams (2 essays each - easy) based on lectures. During class, he doesn't use slides - he only talks so take good notes. *Most important is to RE-WATCH THE LECTURES! I would highly recommend him to anyone.
terrible, I thought his rating on this site would be good enough for me to take him. he grades only three exams and gives no extra credit and no other assignments. He doesnt give much feedback and doesnt give any notes or powerpoints. All he gives is verbal information in class and you must take notes while he is speaking.
Only THREE grades are taken in this class- all of which are longform essays that are very difficult to study for, considering students only have in class lectures (which are of poor quality) and a few readings to go off. The lack of diverse study materials coupled with the ambiguous nature of essay questions makes effective studying very difficult.
Professor Tadie's combative responses to negative reviews are indicative of his attitude towards his students. He takes criticism in class extremely personally, and would rather fight than resolve problems. If you're going for an intel degree I would urge any prospective students to read through his responses before signing up for his course.
Professor Tadie is brilliant, and very knowledgeable in political science and international relations. He is able to answer any question, unless you ask something dumb or very opinionated; in that case, he will politely reject to answer. I am amazed by how many details he knows about political figures from many foreign nations. 3 essay exams.
Professor Tadie is very by the book. He is extremely responsive towards student comments in class and will hear out every question and discussion. His syllabus is straight forward 3 tests, no textbook, readings every week. As far as I know, he is in the middle of changing the structure of his tests from closed book to open book.
Professor Tadie is one of the most experienced and qualified professors I’ve had at Mason. Don’t let the negative reviews scare you, he really is great. Class is all lecture based and exams are the only grades but as long as you pay attention you’ll be more than okay. He also listens to students and helps accommodate.
Awesome class. Pay attention, very important lessons are taught. This class is about very nuanced things that requires critical thinking by nature. If you can't, don't take it. Opinions versus facts are differentiated if opinion is ever offered. The opportunity for student participation encourages students to be exposed to different perspectives.
Just look at the professor's comments on other students' bad reviews and ask yourself if that is the type of instructor you want. If so go ahead but for me, I would rather not.
3 exams each worth 1/3 of grade, two 4-6 paragraph essay questions each. No study guide BUT exams were open note and you could view old lectures. No textbook or homework, great for if you don't want a heavy workload. Study groups with classmates were helpful for exam prep. I liked his class and thought he was nice, some reviews are just mean :(
Professor Tadie was concise and clear in his grading criteria. He was easily accessible and always offered an open discussion in class. He clearly cares about his students and wants to accommodate them. Take him if you have the chance!
the toughest grader I have experienced in my life. Lectures have little to no visuals and grades more harshly then any class I have ever taken.
Challenging, but good. Grade is based on 3 exams, each consisting of 2 closed-note essays. He gives hints on essay topics leading up to tests. Dr. Tadie is kind and accommodating, and the material is interesting. Doesn't use powerpoint, lectures are handwritten on the board. Don't skip class, take extremely detailed notes, and you'll do great.
tadie is old school. he does not use any powerpoint slides. all his lectures are just him talking for 2-some hours. he does give a break in the middle though. 3 exams that are two close-note essays each. he doesn't follow a specific grading criteria. he does hint at what the prompts will be for the exam.
Grumpy and grades way too hard. Takes everything too serious
I enjoyed Professor Tadie and his class. He records his lectures and allows you to use these during your exams. If you pay attention even just a bit, and review the material before and even during the exam, you should be fine. You have a real problem if you thought this stuff was difficult, three exams with easily understandable expectations.
If you fail with Professor Tadie, it is your fault. Three open note exams with additional readings. Really easy class. If you take good notes, you will be fine. Ask questions if you don't understand the material; he is more than happy to go back and explain it differently. Exceptional Professor, I wish I could take him again.
EDIT: In retrospect, it was my own fault for having a low-ish grade due to my negligence in studying. The professor is astute and has great knowledge in his field. While I hold the same sentiment that the lecture is outdated, it's overall not that hard to grasp. As long you study, you will be able to pass the written-exams with ease.
This class is all lectures with limited visuals, but they're recorded, so you can always go back to them, even during tests. Three tests! That's your grade, but taking notes from the recordings makes things easier. Professor Tadie is a true expert and some of the things he lectures about he has participated in/ experienced himself.
I have had this professor for two semesters in a row and is one of the very few professors in my college career that I have sought out to take another class from. It baffles me to read some of these reviews, he's very clear on what he expects. Don't listen to reviews from people who didn't do the minimum. Take this professor if you have the chance.
Maybe not be your favorite professor but he knows his job. Ready to pay attention to details. His class has only 3 exams only. Follow his guidelines and get your A!
Take his class! Do not be afraid at all! He is very smart and very VERY understanding!!! GET YOUR A!
Professor Tadie is invaluable for any interested in the IC, Government, or related fields. The effort you invest in this course will reward you with both knowledge and a good grade. Professor Tadie is a true expert that will force you to think critically about topics within the IC. If you show up to class and take notes, you will succeed. Very kind
Professor Tadie is invaluable for students interested in the IC, Government, or related fields. He is a true expert, that will force you to think critically about topics in the IC. If you attend the lecture and take notes, you will gain valuable knowledge and receive a fair grade for your efforts. He is truly a kind man who cares about his craft.
Most reviews cover what one would want to say about Professor Tadie. He is a GREAT professor. He is highly knowledgeable and really wants you to succeed. This is not a hard class. 3 exams which if you take thorough notes, guarantees you an A. I don't rate that much, but Professor Tadie really deserved it. PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS. You won't regret it.
Professor Tadie's class is no walk in the park, but if you put in the work, it's very rewarding. His lectures are engaging, and while the grading is tough, using tools like Unstuck study can really help with exam prep.
